Tumblr media
was in a strange mood and decided to draw something about it, which did in fact help resolve it. therefore, muralis suffers the same fate. she's having a normal one and is processing information in a way that one would expect of any general person, no doubt.

Revathi - A Life in Trans Activism by A. Revathi and Nandini Murali
Tumblr media
When Revathi’s powerful memoir, The Truth About Me, first appeared in 2011, it caused a sensation. Readers learned of Revathi’s childhood unease with her male body, her escape from her birth family to a house of hijras (the South Asian generic term for transgender people), and her eventual transition to being the woman she always knew she was. This new book charts her remarkable journey from relative obscurity to becoming India’s leading spokesperson for transgender rights and an inspiration to thousands.
Revathi describes her life, her work in the NGO Sangama, which works with people across a spectrum of gender identities and sexual orientations, and how she rose from office assistant to director in the organization. Today she is an independent activist, theatre person, actor and writer, and works for the rights of transgender persons.
In the second part of the book, Revathi offers the reader an insight into one of the least talked about experiences on the gender trajectory: that of being trans men. Calling several female-to-male trans persons her ‘sons’, Revathi puts before us their moving, passionate and sometimes tragic stories of marginalization, courage, resistance and triumph.
An unforgettable book, A Life in Trans Activism will leave the reader questioning the ‘safe’ and ‘comfortable’ binaries of male/female that so many of us take for granted.

When the BJP-led NDA came to power in 1998, the government of India's human resource development minister Dr. Murali Manohar Joshi included 'Priesthood and Ritualism' into school curriculum. During his time, astrology began to be taught instead of science-based astronomy. Learning how to perform the Putrakameshthi Yajna, a (Vedic) ritual to get a male child was also introduced. They are inculcating unfounded beliefs and foolishness into children's minds. Recalling Golwalkar's call for involvement in RSS activities to be essentially devoid of any critical thinking and discernment, once they are in power, they have set about implementing this in children's education. Recently, CBSE has removed several topics from their syllabus. Of these, topics such as democracy and diversity, impact of globalization on agriculture, popular (mass), movements and communalism were removed from the Class 10 syllabus. It is for this kind of school curriculum excisions that the RSS has nurtured one of its offsprings, the 'Shiksha Sanskriti Uttahn Nyas. It has consistently been pressurizing NCERT to remove from textbooks, allusions to 'the former prime minister Manmohan Singh's magnanimous apology for the Sikh riots', and the 'killing of around two thousand Muslims in the 2002 Gujarat riots'. This is their chicanery.

This Wednesday's weed is ivy-leaved toadflax or Kenilworth ivy, Cymbalaria muralis. I spotted this plant growing between the stones of Croxden Abbey in Staffordshire, England. Kenilworth ivy likely would not have been seen by the monks who originally lived here in the 12th century! Although native to southern Europe, it's now found throughout western Europe, the British Isles, North America, and Australia, preferring to live in rock walls. As far as nonnative species go, this one is fairly innocuous, but still gets the weed feature from us because it has been known to crowd out native rock-dwellers. However, it's a well-loved garden plant in some parts of the world, especially in England, where it's sometimes known as Oxford ivy based on the (possibly apocryphal) story that it was first introduced to England at Oxford.
Kenilworth ivy has the unusual feature of having flowers that are both positively and negatively phototropic at various stages of its life. Prior to fertilization, the flowers turn towards the sun, (they're positively phototropic), but after fertilization, they turn away from the sun (they're negatively phototropic) and bury into the rock walls on which they live, planting their own seeds.
Although the leaves are edible and sometimes used in salads, they're said to taste fairly bitter, especially once they're mature. I didn't give these ones a try!

Long time no see
Can't believe it's been one year since I've created this.
Honestly, starting a Tumblr is like starting a sketchbook for me, I want it to be perfect so I can start it. Except unlike a physical object, I can't see it and forget it. (And that's on... ADHD)
I've done a few projects and took so many pictures. I also postponed a lot of photo "editing" (Learned that what I did wasn't really editing but developing digitally, but it feels weird to say this).
I have half a year's worth of pictures from 2023 and a year's worth for 2024. It's not even complicated but it can become really boring. I also have to do some focus stacking for some of them, so that takes time (gotta be precise you know).
My photo folder is filled with 825Go of pictures. I have more on my camera, I pretty much take a photo of any neat critter I locate in my garden (sometimes not with my camera thought).
Tumblr media
Anyway, I'm back, not sure I wont forget about this blog AGAIN. I'll try to post a bit more around here, starting with this picture.
Tumblr media
I took it when I was in Basel, Switzerland with my cousin, in april 2024, near the Rhine. We call them wall lizards in french, the scientific name is Podarcis muralis. He was really quick at hunting and eating this bug. Very cool to see.
