Have you seen Muppets retellings of many fairytales or novels? Some examples:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have yes! Love me some Muppets, especially Muppet fairytales. I used to watch my Muppet Classic Theatre vhs were they retold several fairytales over and over xD Their Rumplestiltskin song (as played delightfully by Gonzo) still pops up in my head sometimes. And of course their versions of the Musicians of Bremen, Cinderella and The Frog Prince are utterly delightful
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their fairytale comics put out by Boom! Studios are also a ton of fun and I’d highly recommend them!

PRELIMINARY ROUND! MATCH 3 OUT OF 5 - BATTLE OF THE MUPPETS' CINDERELLAS!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda Under the Cut:
Cinderella (Hey, Cinderella):
One of the most adorable and effortlessly charming Cinderellas I've ever seen. She met the prince before the ball, but he told her he was a gardener. They fell in love as a Gardener and a Servant Girl, and he invited her to the masked ball to trick his dad into letting him marry her. They made plans to both wear geraniums to recognize each other, but then the king gave everyone a geranium as a door prize, and they were both looking for a poor working class person instead of a fancy royal, so they didn't recognize each other. The king was the one who started trying to find the Mysterious Princess, but the Prince was low-key sabotaging it and Cinderella tried to avoid being found, because they both wanted to marry the person they fell in love with in the garden - so the search lasted for months. Finally, the truth was revealed, and they were ecstatic to have found each other. The whole special is less than an hour long, available for free on YouTube, and the best part is? This is a Muppet production! In fact, it's actually the *first collaboration* between Jim Henson and future Sesame Street crewmembers Joe Raposo and Jon Stone. Additionally, Hey Cinderella also boasts the very first appearance of Kermit *The Frog,* with the iconic green pointed collar and flippers, as opposed to just the vague lizard-like character he had been in previous appearances. There are a couple of mildly problematic jokes common to the time in which it was filmed, and the recording quality was really bad so you can't understand everything some of the Muppet characters say (Kermit is the only recurring Muppet, all the others were only in this special) but it's still a really cute, charming, funny little film, and seriously this version of Cinderella is one of the most adorable Cinderellas around.
Miss Piggy (The Great Muppet Caper):
In the movie, she pretends to be Lady Holiday and when her identity is revealed is leaves on of her shoes there cinderella style.

Hey, since I’ve seen more people on my dash talking about The Muppets in general lately, here’s some links to older muppet media I’ve had trouble looking for in the past and even though they don’t seem as hard to find now, a lot of people might not have heard about them if they aren’t into muppets, so if you’re interested or want to watch something different or just kill some time here ya go
(All or most of these are uploaded by the same user and while their account has tons of muppet media it’s a little scattered so I wanted to put these specific ones together for ease)
Here’s Hey Cinderella!, a muppet production of Cinderella. I love the stepsisters and this has one of the few muppet monsters that have ever made me feel uneasy
Here’s the Muppets Musicians of Bremen, which features no human actors,
Here’s The Frog Prince, featuring the first appearances of dear Robin and Sweetums
Here’s The Great Santa Claus Switch, this upload has multiple sections of video because it contains everything featured in the dvd, the third one is the start of the movie itself
Here’s the lovely, heartwarming Emmet Otters Jugband Christmas
And here’s the two original pilots, The Muppets Valentines Show plays first and is then followed by The Muppets: Sex and Violence. They stick a little bit they’ll play through just fine.
I hope people enjoy and if there’s any interest I’d be more than happy to make another group post with links to other older muppet specials, just let me know!!! I watched all these and others while I was pretty sick last week

Eddie Casts Song of Restoration
Content: Sick hurt/Comfort, innuendo and flirting, reader described as having breasts, reader has never heard of Vic’s vapor rub going on your feets 😅. I know, that’s gonna ruin this for some of us. Just pretend with me.
🦇 ♥️ 🦇 🎸 🦇 💀 🦇 🎸 🦇 ♥️ 🦇
You’d been together for 19 days and 6 hours when you caught the flu.
You told Eddie to stay away from your house until you were well, but Eddie is not exactly stellar at following orders.
It was the fatigue that was the worst and you didn’t want to ever see Eddie as listless as you felt. You liked it best when he was revved up and bouncing around like a coiled spring.
He was very bouncy right now.
“Orange juice, check. Ginger ale, check. Chicken soup and crackers. Check Check. More tissues - the Good Ones.” Eddie said, plopping his purchases onto the counter. “Vapor rub which Uncle Wayne says cures what ails ya’. And Of course - movies for distraction purposes. Plus me, as a bonus distraction.” He bowed to you, but he was the opposite of humble.
“Babe, didn’t want you to get sick.” You said weakly. “Didn’t Dustin tell you I said to stay away?”
You clutched the afghan around you and shuffled further away as if a few measly feet would protect your beloved from the plague you carried.
What you needed was hazmat suits, then you could hug him safely. You wanted to hold him so badly.
Eddie cocked his head and licked a canine. “You ever known me to do what that little shrimp says? Also, I knew you needed me.” He held out his arms to catch you up in them, but a sudden sneeze caught you without tissue in hand and slightly green goop was now dripping from your nose
“Awwww gross…” you complained and begged him. “Don’t look at me, I’m so disgusting.”
Eddie laughed, not cruelly, “Sweetheart, where is all that ectoplasm coming from??” He brought his bandana up to wipe your face off, ignoring your complaints that it would need to be BURNED afterwards. “Listen, you are not gross. It’s just snot. You are as gorgeous as ever, and I loooove the outfit.” He had clocked that you were wearing a Megadeth shirt and just underwear underneath your your afghan ‘cloak’. His voice dropped an octave - you felt it rumble in your ears. “That’s my shirt...Don’t you know what that does to me…?” sliding his warm hands under the afghan to meet your thighs.
You felt the traitorous cough building in your chest and couldn’t stop it no matter how hard you tried. It bent you double. It sounded atrocious.
“Whoa-whoa, hey, I’m sorry, I won’t molest you while you're sick, don’t cough up a lung on me.” Eddie slung an arm around your shoulder and led you back to the couch.
“You would… if I wasn’t sick, though?” You asked glumly, “You’d molest me to my heart’s content?”
Eddie did a double take at that, and then chuckled in his best demonic manner, “Say the word and you’ll be thoroughly molested, good and proper. Soon as you want it.” Quixotically changing tone to be sweet again, his doe-eyes soft and concerned. “Do you wanna lay down, or prop up against me?”
“Can’t lay down, get too stuffy.” You sniffed, a bit pathetically.
“Okay, sit here, imma put on the first movie and then we can cuddle up.” Eddie popped open a white clamshell VHS case. “You said you loved Muppet movies, Robin suggested I get you ‘Hey Cinderella’ - and ‘The Frog Prince’ - both are Muppety versions.”
“I think you might be the sweetest boyfriend in the whole world.”
“I know, right?…and now…” he unscrewed the cap of vapor rub, “to put this mentholated greasy shit…sorry... stuff.. on your feet.”
“What? Vapor rub is…chest…stuff. Chest rub. For chests??”
“Wayne said he puts it on his feet when he has a cold - said he did that for me when I was a toddler.” Eddie suddenly looked at you with a little smirk, “Dooooo youuuu want me to rub this on your chest? All over it? Cause that’s the kinda sweet boyfriend I am, I will do that, for you, if you want?” He licked his upper lip, face all mischievous.
He was a good distraction. “Yeah, well... when they say ‘chest’ they mean upper chest,” You patted just below your neck. “... not these.” You cupped your breasts at him.
His eyes widened and so did his smirk. “Show me again, I’m confused. Where doesn’t it go??” He scootched closer.
You tsked your tongue. “Actually what would be best - is if I rubbed this on your chest and stomach - and then laid my head on you. Like a big warm sexy healing pillow.”
“I don’t want to be described as a pillow - but I’ll take the rest.”
He let you put the chest rub on him, only wrinkling his nose up until you started massaging it in (avoiding his nipples), then you sent Eddie shivering into a little body-roll of pleasure as you drifted your hands down to his naval.
“Your hands feel s-s-so good... go lower??” His voice broke slightly on the ask.
“I’m not sure this is okay to go on any sensitive skin - like - pretty sure crotch is a no-go, babe.”
Eddie sighed a laugh, “Whoops, I didn’t come over here to have you take care of me. C’mere.” He held out his arm so you could get as close as possible and lay your heavy head on his chest. He held you sweetly and watched your silly muppety movies and sang you some Led Zeppelin until you drifted off to sleep.
But it has to be said, that as soon as you felt better, you gave him a full body massage with body safe oil and it did not disappoint.

When @paexgo-rosa asked me about the meanings of the Disney Princes names, I wasn't able to give one for Cinderella's Prince, because the Disney version doesn't name him.
I don't like to call him Prince Charming: that's just a cultural nickname for all fairy tale princes.
Fortunately, there are plenty of other Cinderella adaptations that do give the prince a name, so I thought I'd share those names' meanings.
Christopher (his name in every version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical, and presumably Disney's 2015 film too, since "Kit" is usually short for Christopher): "Bearer of Christ."
Henry (his name in the Faerie Tale Theatre adaptation and the film Ever After: A Cinderella Story): "Home ruler."
Charles (the film The Glass Slipper and the anime Cinderella Monogatari): "Free man."
Charmont (Massenet's opera Cendrillon and the book and film Ella Enchanted): "Charming."
Ramiro (Rossini's opera La Cenerentola): "Renowned councilor" or "great judge."
Arthur (the Muppets' Hey, Cinderella!): "Bear" or "bear king."
Edward (the film The Slipper and the Rose): "Wealthy guard."
John (the anime My Favorite Fairy Tales): "God is gracious."
Felipe (the series Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child): "Horse lover."
Nicolo (the musical A Tale of Cinderella): "Victory of the people."
Leonhard (the Märchenperlen adaptation): "Brave as a lion."
Viktor (the Sechs auf einen Streich adaptation): "Victorious."
Theodore (Deutscher's opera): "Gift from God."
Sebastian (Lloyd Webber's musical): "Revered."
Robert (the Sony/Amazon movie musical): "Bright fame."
For that matter, let's look at the meanings of his full name in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical:
Christopher Rupert Windermere Vladimir Karl Alexander Francois Reginald Lancelot Herman Gregory James
Christopher: "Bearer of Christ."
Rupert: "Bright fame."
Windermere: "Winand's lake."
Vladimir: "Great ruler" or "peaceful ruler."
Karl: "Free man."
Alexander: "Defender of mankind."
Francois: "Frenchman."
Reginald: "Ruler's advisor."
Lancelot: "Javelin" or "servant."
Herman: "Army man."
Gregory: "Vigilant."
James: "Heel-grabber" or "supplanter."

For the musical ask game: Carrie or Phantom of the Opera (whichever you’d rather do)? 😁
Send me a musical in my ask box:
Hey anon! Just for you, I'll do both! Beneath the cut it goes, as it's a little long.
Phantom of the Opera
Listened to It | wtf is that | LOVE IT | meh | um…hate it | heard of it | yes!!
Rate 1-10: Solid 10. Sorry. I have not progressed since the age of twelve and I never will.
Favorite Lyric: Angel, oh speak / What endless longings / echo in this whisper? I mean, you don't get much more gothic romance perfection from this (though the entirety of Wandering Child is perfect.)
Favorite Song: Oooh, tough one. Favourite to listen to is probably Masquerade, favourite to watch is probably either Down Once More/Final Lair for the sheer high octane melodrama of it all (and some truly phenomenal performances at its best), or Angel of Music for the Megstine goodness.
Favorite Character: Christine Daae!
Best Moment: When Meg takes her top off while congratulating Christine in the restaged tour When Christine gives her "tears of hate" speech to Erik and defies him at every turn in the Final Lair. When Erik comes diva-ing down the stairs in the Red Death muppet mask during masquerade.
Something that makes me angry: Carlotta did nothing wrong!!!! She's an aging woman in the entertainment industry whose career is being threatened by a skinny girl half her age and a fucking serial killer, of course she's mad!! She has every right to be a diva! And Piangi just supported his wife!
Gives me the chills: The entirety of Raoul I've Been There, especially the gorgeous high notes Christine hits, but I'll also hand it to the Don Juan Triumphant rehearsal scene because the self-playing piano into the terrifying Transition to the Graveyard is so endlessly iconic.
Overall opinions: One of the all-time greats. Perfect costumes, perfect plot, perfect ending. Christine and Meg are in lesbians and there's nothing you can do about it.
Carrie the Musical
Listened to It | wtf is that | LOVE IT | meh | um…hate it | heard of it | yes!!
Rate 1-10: 7, but the best moments really do stand out. Unfortunately the original is kind of unwatchable outside those moments and the redux got bogged down in ballad hell and spent wayyyyyy too much time humanizing Margaret. Kudos for the Sue's interrogation framing device and devolving into pure lesbianism between her and Carrie!
Favorite Lyric: I felt/As though/This girl revealed herself to me/And now/I know/That once you see/You can't unsee... For a cult classic that keeps pendulum swinging between camp and boredom (especially in the 2010s retooling), this lyric proves to me that Gore, Pitchford and Cohen completely and totally understood the character of Sue Snell, her trauma, and her relationship to Carrie. Honourable mention to God has seen your sinning/just beginning/pray for your salvation/from damnation/pray or/He will burn you, but only when it's Carrie's reprise in versions of the Destruction that keep Eve Was Weak.
Favorite Song: The World According To Chris is an absolute bop and campy fun, but A Night We'll Never Forget is such a fantastic full-cast counterpoint song before the storm, and musically hits the sweet spot the 76 film nailed so perfectly balancing a teen coming of age Cinderella comedy vibe and a deep, eerie sense of foreboding for characters we've been told from the beginning are all, in one sense or another, doomed. The build, the swell, the way it evokes the rays of sunlight in the last weeks of the school year with a horror movie twist...I love it I love it I love it.
Favorite Character: oh gee i wonder who it could possibly be could the favourite character of tumblr user susandsnell be Susan D. Snell herself
Best Moment: The Destruction!!!! Even though they kind of nerfed it orchestrally in the retool, I am a staunch believer in the horror musical, and I love watching various productions go wild with effects and acting as Carrie takes bloody vengeance in the unforgettable prom sequence. Honourable mention to the musical getting the closest of any adaptation to the book's ending with Sue being by Carrie's side as she dies, and, unable to quite adapt their telepathic final communication, they settle for the sapphic A Little Fall of Rain because these two are soulmates.
Something that makes me angry: At the risk of sounding like those cringe Steven Universe "all conflict in media is problematic" type of posters, I really think it does the story a disservice to overly sympathize with Margaret and give her so many songs. Don't get me wrong, I have no moral qualms with stories that humanize abusers in an effort to meaningfully explore and understand familial violence, cyclical or otherwise -- obviously, given I've been hyperfixated on IWTV this year, and Hereditary is one of my other favourite works of horror.
The problem here is that it's not executed particularly well. Margaret White is, whether played more human or more monstrously, a force of nature, and part of the sympathy we have for Carrie is that we share in her terror of this figure that looms so large that this sweet girl has to become a monster herself to overcome her, and even then can't quite. Rather than having us understand yet still fear and hate Margaret, the musical goes so far in her humanization as to almost afford her tritagonist status to Carrie and Sue, which utterly defangs her. We do not need to know her interiority that well, and in fact seeing that much of it and that she's "trying to help" Carrie from her perspective feels somewhat icky and more importantly, unnecessary. To be clear, I'm someone who thinks the Johanna (Mea Culpa) bit from Sweeney Todd is superfluous despite musical beauty and the sheer chutzpah of Sondheim trying to write the first instance of a man self-flagellating to orgasm in a broadway show. With villains, less is often more so they have more impact and menace.
Also, while I understand that it's usually a big star that plays Margaret (Betty Buckley and Marin Mazzie to name a few) and you obviously want to showcase her talent, her songs, with the exception of Eve Was Weak, are among the dullest and most skippable of the show. Like maybe in the show called Carrie we could spend more time with Carrie? Maybe more Sue? I'd even take giving Chris more character development than her being kind of sad at the end of The World According to Chris. I don't know, but all in all, where the show absolutely got Sue, they really whiffed it with Margaret.
Gives me the chills: "Doesn't anybody ever get it right? Doesn't anybody think that I hear?" Hits painfully close to home, especially with those stunning high notes; this followed by versions that keep the Eve Was Weak reprise with Carrie spitting her abuser's words back at her bullies, declaring herself the only God she trusts in, is incredibly powerful.
As well, stagings where Carrie's spirit during the epilogue pauses and gives Sue a last, lingering look on those ending lyrics I quoted above are heartrendingly beautiful.
Honorary mention to Carrie scaring Margaret slamming the windows the first time, but that's more an awesome moment than chilling!
Overall opinions: The sheer insanity of the original version is wildly entertaining, but once you get past the whole delightful mess of the legendary flop, what you have his a very uneven, meh show as far as horror musicals go, especially with the retooling taking out some of the best stuff or softening it questionably. With this being said, it absolutely has its moments, both musically and otherwise. The show adapts certain parts of the book other versions haven't that I was so delighted to see, and recognizes that the story is in fact about Carrie and Sue (I mean, Sue's final song to Carrie is a reprise of the melody of her love song with Tommy, come on!), so I can't help but love it for that.

TV from the Period of Welcome Home
TV from the period, continued.
There is a part 1 on the blog if you are interested.
So, three channels on a good day, and there were local TV shows, news, but also like around noon there was like a Farm and Ranch Report and some show I remember being suuuuper boring where old ladies with poofy hair would talk. Granted, given how women were judged as old at 30, they were probably younger than I am now.
As a kid, after school cartoons were a thing, but mostly old ones like Bugs Bunny, or Rocky and Bullwinkle or Hanna Barbera cartoons:  The Flintstones, and Scooby Doo for example.  There were cartoons on Saturday morning; they stopped around 11, and then it would either be Wild Kingdom or some old TV show like Land of the Lost.  There were also reruns, like Little House on the Prairie(!) and game shows (No Whammy!).  I watched more episodes of The Newlywed Game than was probably good for a child.
My parents, however, had a very early form of at-home movie watching, the Laserdisc.  I have only seen this at my parents’ house.
Tumblr media
In this image is the exact machine we had at my house.  Based on the pictures I found, this wasn’t as common as more of a cd type machine.  However, those things on top of the player were the movies.  They were kind of like cassettes in operation.  You took that cartridge (which was about 18”x18”) and you slid it into the machine.  The case would come back out, but the disc remained inside.  Eventually, we got curious and pulled the middle out of one, and discovered the disc on the inside.  The wild part was that there would be a pause as the disc came to the end of a side.  Yes, like a record.  Then you had to put the cartridge back in, and pull it out.  The disc was now in the cartridge.  Then, you turned it over (seems ridiculous in hindsight) and pushed it back in, and the cartridge remained.  I could still tell you exactly where that break is in The Great Muppet Caper.
So, I mention this, as a rural kid with very little money and even fewer trips to the movies, because my parents bought us kids movies on this thing, and while there weren’t a lot, we had The Muppet Movie and The Great Muppet Caper.  Oh, and we had Hey Cinderella! and The Frog Prince (both on 1 disc) and Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas.  The Cinderella/Frog Prince was one of my favorites.  I still think the jokes are super solid in that one, as well as has good music.  We also had Watership Down, which we couldn’t get past the intro as it was too spooky.  We watched a lot of The Secret of NiMH, which was also spooky, but less bloody.  Plus that crow is hysterical.  We watched these over and over.
Oddly enough, my parents had a few Mel Brooks movies, so I grew up on The History of the World, Part 1, though mostly just noticed the slapstick.  I didn’t get the jokes until much later.  We also had Young Frankenstein, which continues to be one of my favorite movies.  I must have been an oddball kid to be able to recognize Mel Brooks in The Muppet Movie.
Tumblr media
Look!  James Frawley, Jim Henson, and Mel Brooks!
We lived in a community that was rural, like a subdivision 15 minutes from anything, and most of us could not afford cable.  I mentioned my dad was an electrician, so he somehow looped most, if not all, houses into cable through the rich guy’s cable.  (He had an indoor pool and a soda machine.  It was decadent.)  I’m not sure how that worked, because we weren’t limited to what the main house was watching.  I don’t know how long we had it before the cable company figured it out., probably close to a year.
TV shows didn't really try to appeal to children, as far as I can remember, so it was nights of watching whatever was on, because you had two choices:  either this or the other channel.  Plus, at the time, it was expected that the adults would pick the show.   I remember watching lots of crime dramas. Magnum PI, CHiPs, The Fall Guy, etc. When I was older, The Cosby Show was the best thing on TV.  But, the most amazing thing as a kid were the Special Presentations.
Tumblr media
If you saw this guy, you were in for a nice time.
Tumblr media
Not to be confused with "A Very Special Episode," which meant some lame thing where they had your favorite TV characters talking about something really depressing or scary, also known as an “After School Special,” though a lot of times those were not filmed with known characters, just really lame low budget deals.  The most famous example of this is where a character on Saved by the Bell was taking diet pills (so excited and so scared).  Definitely worth a watch.  I actually didn’t see this at the time, and only learned about it as an adult.  Two TV stations.  If Clown does “A Very Special Episode,” I will die.
So, Special Presentations were your really good things. It meant either you were getting something you didn't see a lot (Miss America), a once-a-year treat (Wizard of Oz), or cartoons (Holiday Specials!) I remember how excited we were to have the Wizard of Oz every year.  It seemed random when it happened, but I’m sure there was a schedule that I wasn’t aware of as a kid.  I don’t think we even got the TV guide.  However, there were TV listings in the newspaper.
Tumblr media
Once a year treats included things like "Circus of the Stars." I had forgotten about it until I googled Special Presentation to get that graphic. Actual TV stars would learn to do circus stuff, like trapeze. I am going to drown in nostalgia. Here's a later one in 1992, (Downtown Julie Brown!) with Weird Al, because Weird Al is synonymous with TV. Apparently.
youtube
Also, the first home gaming consoles were coming out. I remember that we had an Intellivision, which was one of the earliest consoles.
Given we had that and one of the first home computers (Commodore 64), maybe we were more middle class than I realized, or my dad just liked technology.
Tumblr media
That's it for now. If i think of something that could be especially helpful in understanding the world of Welcome Home, I will add it, but for now, I am sure this is more than enough. I am working on a personal history post about The Muppets and Jim Henson as well.

Fairy Tale June -Muppets Musicians of Bremen
For the second installment of Fairy Tale June we are going to look at a muppet classic ,The Muppets Musicians of Bremen
Tumblr media
In this 1972 TV special a group of old animals who belong to a group of mean people unite to become musicians
This is the third of a trilogy of Muppet adaptations of fairy tales (The other two being Hey Cinderella and the Frog Prince ),and while its funny and sets the story in louisiana it fell like the straightest telling of the three
SOngs are cute, jokes are funny, the animals are likeable ....If I have an issue its that the human villains, protrayed tough people in puppet suits .....Look too uncanny valley ish
Overall this was an enjoyable special

FICTIONAL CHARACTER ASK: SWEETUMS
Asked by @thealmightyemprex
@goodanswerfoxmonster @themousefromfantasyland @the-blue-fairie @angelixgutz @softlytowardthesun @princesssarisa @amalthea9
Favorite Thing About Them: That despite his limited vocabulary, he is quite inteligent, and while he is usually cast in the role of brute villanous monster, his real self is a sweet sensitive person. Plus, in both his first appearance in Tales of Muppetland: The Frog Prince and The Muppet Movie he escaped abusive bosses and gladly joined the side of good, and I always just love henchman who escape evil bosses and get redeemed.
Least Favorite Thing About Them: That his appearances are small because of how big, heavy and dificult his puppet is to handle.
Three Things I Have In Common With Them:
*I dreamed of doing big in visual mass media;
*I could loose conscience of how I was using my strenght and bumbling break some objects in the proccess;
*I enjoy lullabies to calm me down.
Three Things I Don't Have In Common With Them:
* I am not a furry ogre;
* I never worked with a crook car salesman;
*I don't have experience acting on movies or television.

Random Headcanon: He started working on a circus where he and his family were presented as the Big Foot Family. Them he decided to search for new paths in his artistic career, wich was pretty chill for the circus owner and his relatives. Them he found the job as the jack with the cunning Old Cars Salesman, wich was hell, until eventually he finally met the other Muppets and found an oportunity for his break in theater, television and film.
Unpopular Opinion: I wish his sweet and sensitive side was emphasized more often so he can avoid being typecast as brutes.

Movie Meme 🎬
Post 7 comfort movies and tag 7 people. I was tagged by @lunaraindrop and as soon as i was, i immediately forgot every movie i've ever seen.
i think these all count as comfort movies, but they're really just all movies that have significant meaning to me in one way or another OR that i can watch/re-watch no matter what (is that what a comfort movie is? idk)
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993): if you know me at all, you would've seen this one coming lmao This is my no. 1 fave movie of all time, and it has been since I was..9? I remember exactly where I was when i first saw it and i remember just standing there fully enraptured. literally standing, like i was standing directly in front of the TV
Rocketman (1997) the disney one, where they go to mars! i would put this tape on every night to fall asleep to the point i had the previews (which became all static-y and worn out from constant re-watching) and the first like, 15 min memorized. also, for some reason my family would constantly quote things from this movie without fully realizing it ("hey, what kind of laptop do you have?", "...using what we like to call 'the right way'.", and "now THAT was julie.".)
Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella (1997) the Whitney Houston version with Brandy :) THE BEST adaptation of this version of cinderella. no i will not be taking arguments at this time. sidenote: i FLIPPED SHIT when i went on the Universal lot tour in California last year because this was filmed there on their little 'european town' backdrop. The tour guide said that and i gasped so loud-an actual aloud reaction to that news-and started ranting to my husband about it.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (1999) i loved this movie sm as a kid that i was one of the ensemble kids at a church (that i didn't go to)'s production of the play. me. on a stage. in front of people. singing and dancing and shit. wild stuff, friends.
The Princess Diaries (2001) and Princess Diaries 2 (2004); my little sis and i LOVED watching these movies when we were young. also, while i was writing my steddie PD2 au, i found out that my husband did NOT like these movies and i still don't know what to do with that information.
The Last Holiday (2006) somehow i always forget about this movie. like, everytime i'm reminded of it, it feels like i hadn't watched it in YEARS (though i end up watching it every year around new years!). it's literally so good and makes me want to book a trip to Karlovy Vary/Grandhotel Pupp (and maybe also visit Aneta while i'm there 👀)
The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) is there anyone who doesn't love this movie?? it is my family's comfort christmas movie and we watch it every christmas eve! (P.S., this movie was my first into to the christmas carol story, and it really threw me off later when i watched a different version and there was only one Marley and not two Marley brothers 😅)
tagging my loverly moots: @henderdads, @strawberryspence, @thefreakandthehair, @undreaming-fanfiction, @potentialheartofdarkness, @yournowheregirl, @appledaggerst and anyone else who sees this and wants to do it!!

My explaination behind the controversial choices:
It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie wasn't included despite being a Muppet film bcs I didn't want there to be two christmas movies up there and so I picked the more popular one.
Kermit's Swamp Years won out over Muppet Classic Theater bcs I legit had never heard of it, and also I just really love Kermit's Swamp Years and decided to be a little biased.
The Muppet's Wizard of Oz was included over It's A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie both again bcs I didn't see the point of having two christmas films, bcs it has a joke that taught me more about queer history, I love the lead actress, and I've also seen people on tumblr say it's underrated.
Muppet Haunted Mansion, A Very Muppet Christmas, Hey Cinderella, The Frog Prince, Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas, The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence, and John Denver and The Muppets: A Christmas Together we're not included bcs they were all listed as TV specials and not films.
I hope that helps, and ofc I'm not actually upset. This is all in good fun and I actually agree with these tags:
Tumblr media
There's no right answer, the best Muppet movie is the one you love the most, and I am glad to see all of the different Muppet things you guys love.
some of y'all are getting real heated about the choices for my muppet movie poll lmao and ngl I kinda love it
