When Mumbo mentions what he's doing irl in a video its always funny like, "I've been living in my van" "I'm in a forest in france" "I'm in an isolated cabin by a lake in scotland" he's always either travelling or on a film shoot somewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if one hermitcraft episode he'll offhand mention he's in the arctic filming penguins.
#mumbo jumbo#hermitcraft#He could be like “im recording this episode in a storage container suspended over a cliff” and id just be like thats cool mumbo

I feel the need to inform you that while BigB was born in the USA yes, I believe he lives in Germany so technically he'd be part of the Other team
So I did it as where they were from because it was my first thought
If I did “where do they live” then the teams would be:
USA: Skizz, Impulse, Tango, Bdubs, Scar
England: Grian, Joel, Lizzie, Jimmy, Martyn, Scott, Ren, Mumbo
Canada: Etho and Gem
Everyone Else: Cleo (lives in Scotland), BigB (lives in Germany), and Pearl

St. Columba was born in Donegal, Ireland on December7th 521AD.
Yes I know it could be argued quite correctly that St Columba (also known as Colum-Cille) is not a "Scot" at, but he became a major figure in Scotland's early history and his legacy in the form of the Iona Community has remained with us for over 1400 years.
As with all religious figures it is not easy to divide fact from fiction, certainly if you are someone who dismisses these saints miracles as mumbo jumbo, but what do we actually know about St. Columba? He was born and raised in Ireland, where he studied under monks, bards, and other learned figures. In 563 he set sail for Scotland. Some sources describe this as a willing pilgrimage; others suggest Columba was exiled from Ireland following disputes with fellow priests and scholars.
What we can be sure of is that he settled on the island of Iona. There – along with his twelve travelling companions – he founded a monastery. This monastery would come to wield not only significant religious influence, but also a considerable degree of political and cultural power.
One of the rhings I found out while trying to keep posts like tis, which crop up regularly, is he is the patron saint of poets. Iona Abbey was a vital institution in the production of literature in Scotland. Like other monasteries, the monks of Iona would have taught reading and writing to the brothers within their community. They also curated libraries, bringing together and copying books from across Christendom. There is also some evidence that they encouraged communication between the various peoples who inhabited the country at the time, although this communication was not necessarily written.
In 575 Columba spoke at the assembly of Druim Cetta in defence of poets facing criticism from the Irish ruling class. He’s also often credited as a poet himself (although we can’t know for certain if the poems traditionally attributed to him are truly his work).
As I have posted a fair bit about te man beforeI will leave it to you to seek out mor at the following links. You could learn about his encounter with ‘Nessie’, for example, or investigate the wonderfully-named St. Columba’s Pillow. Similarly, you could try a virtual day out at Iona Abbey.

i see people on booktwt praising the radiant emperor duology very often and every time, instead of remembering that i actually had fun reading those books, i think about how flawed they are, and i wish i could understand the endless praise they get. but i sadly do not.
and then i remembered a tweet by shelley parker-chan about dunnett and her novels that actually explains, in a way, why their writing doesn't work for me. the tweet was a reply to someone and it was:
but Dunnett in general never feeds me the (emotional) food and I get frustrated. like bitch these power plays are so good but why don’t you make it JUICY. don’t make me have to use my imagination
it's actually very funny how this explains exactly the problems i have with their duology. clearly, dunnett is a big fan of subtlety. also very clear, SPC is not, and doesn't utilize it much (at all) in their novels.
and the complete lack of subtlety is something that really bothered me in the radiant emperor duology. that, hand in hand with the endless repetition, makes sure you don't have to use your imagination when it comes to the characters. ever. you will be told how they feel about each other and about what's happening and about what they've done and will do. constantly
but that, for me at least, doesn't make you connect with those characters more, and it doesn't make them more complex (in fact, sometimes they feel like two emotions in a trenchcoat lol). of course too little emotional food can leave you hungry, but too much can cause indigestion
the thing is, i don't need dunnett to tell me that, for example, nicholas was battling with the pain of gelis's betrayal and the profound grief of the loss of his closest friend post-SoG. i know he's dealing with those feelings, i'm seeing it, because he fucked off to be a menace in scotland and he's wearing all black and he's kidnapping people to torment them for a while (lol). and that's so much more interesting than writing paragraph after paragraph of his emotional breakdown. because, yes, i can use my imagination. i like doing that!
would the lymond chronicles be better if we got descriptions of how lymond is drowning in pain and self-hatred during basically every chapter in RC or CM? it's obvious that that's what's happening to him. i think it would actually make the books and the character worse, because doing that doesn't fit who lymond is, just like it wouldn't fit nicholas.
the constant repetition of how zhu, ouyang, and baoxiang feel are not "juicy" to me. they're fine characters and i like them. i would even say they're pretty interesting! but you could pretty much define each of them with a couple of words and you would get like. 90% of who they are. no subtlety. no imagination.
you can't define lymond with two or three or ten words. same with nicholas. even dunnett's characters who seem more simple and straightforward, like richard or julius, are more complex than that
another thing is that focusing so much on the emotional journey of the characters means that other parts of the book are completely neglected. the radiant emperor duology is a low fantasy historical fiction. but the historical part of it is given almost no attention at all. if i pick a histfic book, i want to feel immersed in the time period it's portraying. that didn't happen at all while reading these two books. you may like dunnett's minute historical details more or less (hell, i'm a huge fan and even i want to skip most of the historical mumbo jumbo in some of her novels (the ringed castle)), but goddamn she makes you feel immersed in the 15th and 16th centuries
anyway, the conclusion here is that SPC doesn't love dunnett's style, and i don't love their style. i will probably still read their following books when they get published, but i really, really hope they learn just one thing: sometimes (most of the time) books that are subtle, are better
#it may seem like i've made two back to back posts complaining about dunnett criticism but actually!#this is radiant emperor criticism using dunnett to explain myself. completely different things actually#but also i am a complainer and i always Need to complain about criticism of my faves#especially when i don't feel it's fair#anyone who followed me during the peak of my age of madness brainrot knows this too well lol#also not tagging this post at all like it just seems so petty

8 TV shows can say a lot about a person!
Certainly for me, I think! I’m listing here many of my personal recs which (as this is a Haladriel blog) I will be talking about them in relation to Haladriel, if applicable.
Thanks for the tag @pursuitseternal 🌟
Without further ado:
———
1. Needless to say, The Rings of Power.
I’m a total sucker for Hot Bad Men™️ so I never stood a chance against Saubrand.
Blorbo aside, my attachment to this show far preceded my Saurondriel obsession — I was completely enamored with it since Episode 1, the first big scenic shot of Valinor; the Two Trees; the epic soundtrack; stunning costumes. I had tears in my eyes during the boat sailing into the light of Valinor. The scale of storytelling far exceeded my admittedly meager expectations.
Let me be clear: I did not want to like this show and was set on dismissing it as an inferior fan service following The Hobbit franchise. Next thing I knew my inner child had been awakened and my love for Tolkien universe rekindled. Add to this concoction my weakness for complex villains and the epic reveal of Hot Sauron — boom, I was done. I’ll never recover from this.
2. FRINGE.
This show has such a special place in my heart. It’s sci-fi, mystery, time travel, alternate timelines, quantum physics mumbo jumbo, love story, and a father/son story all rolled into one amazing series that ended abruptly and went under the radar for so long.
In this universe, Denethor II has reincarnated into a much more gentle, sweeter Dr. Walter Bishop who actually loves his son and will put his life at risk for his son over, and over, and over again.
I also have an undying admiration for Anna Torv’s Olivia Dunham (I’m planning a separate post of all my fictional female crushes over the years). I was so giddy to see her in The Last of Us — she’s an underrated actress who deserves to be in the spotlight.
3. LOST.
Probably the first TV show that I actually got seriously invested in as a young adult and since then I’ve watched it so many times in every phase of my life. I’ve named our new puppy after Penelope Widmore. My computer name is Not-Pennys-Boat. I’ve been thirsting after stranded-at-sea disheveled ruffians since Sawyer, who is my favorite character who was the antagonist at the beginning (I’ve been saying that Halbrand is the perfect mix of Sawyer and Aragorn).
Sawyer/Juliet is my absolute favorite onscreen couple, pre-Haladriel. Their chemistry is fire. They just work. (Hated him with Kate.) Just tell me this doesn’t scream Haladriel (aesthetically):
Bonus: scene look familiar? Desmond did it first 🔥
4. Outlander.
Ok, believe it or not, I wasn’t quite watching this for the copious amount of steamy sex just because I was watching with my husband AND my mom over the pandemic when we lived together, and needless to say it was quite awkward 😂 I have a particular inexplicable love for Scotland (despite having only gone there twice), so when I discovered the series I went head over heels in love with the landscape, costumes, historic details, music (Bear McCreary), mythology, etc. Oh, and the hot Scotsman too 🫠
Jamie and Claire are the epitome of cosmically connected soulmates, their love transcending across lifetimes. Their early sex scenes are 🔥🔥🔥.
Bonus fact: Sam Heughan was named after Samwise Gamgee by his Tolkien hippie parents. He’s been casually broadcasting that he wants a role in TROP. Could we help him? If enough of us use the tag #SamHeughanForCeleborn, will they give Galadriel the husband she deserves?
5. DARK.
Did I mention I’m a big fan of quantum physics, philosophy, time travel, and parallel universes? No? Well, this brooding German show just about represents everything I love. The perfectly planned 3-season show is everything you could ever hope for in a good TV series. It’s moody, intelligent, mind-bending, and heart-wrenching. Watch the first episode, and by the end of it, you’ll be hooked, I promise you. Oh and for the love of god, do not watch it dubbed.
6. Norsemen.
Ok, I don’t typically watch too much comedy. But I do like The Office. I also like medieval movies/shows. What if I said Norsemen was basically a medieval version of The Office? Oh, it’s so dumb. It’s so dumb I almost didn’t finish the first episode. But once you get in the groove, it’s hilarious as fuck. On Netflix.
7. True Detective.
I don’t know how many times I’ve rewatched this show — it’s my comfort show I watch by myself on my laptop on rainy evenings. I don’t know what that says about me, and I don’t want to know 😂
Aside from the intrigue of the creepy Southern Gothic and unsettling cult themes, I mainly attribute my obsession with the show to Matthew McConaughey’s brooding Rust Cohle. He’s tall and lanky, a total weirdo, a lone wolf, has commitment issues, single-minded about his job, and (a bit more than) slightly unhinged. Also known as my kind of dude.
8. Better Call Saul.
Greatest of all spin-offs, who knew that the show about the sleazy lawyer who represented the world’s greatest meth kingpin was actually a love story in disguise?
Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seehorn as Jimmy and Kim are the perfect embodiment of a modern couple who are equals and opposites, bring out each other’s best and worst, and have an undying respect for one another which serves as the backbone for their relationship. They even take turns towing on opposite sides of the law, pushing and pulling each other’s inclinations towards Good & Bad, only to find each other drowning in the dense grey area that is all too real. They are the *could have beens* for Galadriel and Sauron in the best case scenario (I could go on with the similarities but I don’t want to spoil the show).
Bonus fact: Gennifer Hutchison was the writer for both BCS and TROP. This fact should speak volumes about the kinds of discussions that would have occurred in the writer’s room regarding the nature of Galadriel and Sauron’s relationship. Watch the show and you’ll understand.
I’ve got many more recommended shows, but I think these 8 have been my primary emotional support shows over the past few years. I debated including Raised By Wolves, but as it was prematurely canceled there isn’t a whole lot I could say about it, despite having a fantastic premise (and which I still recommend people watch).
No pressure tags (but also curious to know): @starlady66 @maironiiel @demonscantgothere @scriberated @wyrd-syster @formerlyir @nenyabusiness @thegreatzombieartisan and any others who want to join.

BAMBOOZLE
There you are
Was wondering when you'd find your way back
Been a while
And
This spell is for
Fenny Lalan In Emu Sick,
seconded by Spellcast superstar
Eyehear Ahoo.
The word is...
bam·boo·zle
to deceive
or cheat
(a person).
All the cool crooks in the streets of 17th Century Scotland would call a trick, a con, a scam, a hustle
A bam.
Now it's hard to remember whether it goes that a bam was short for a bamboozle, or if the bam came first, and unlucky marks boozled by bams.
Hoodwinked, their powers of vision winked out
by a hood, perhaps one of wool, pulled over your eyes
Hornswoggled by a flimflam man's hocus pocus,
Humbugged by a charlatan's mumbo jumbo,
Flabbergasted by gobbledegook, poppycock, balderdash...
Something about these words
Isn't there?
Lots of exciting, fun sounds
That only end up meaning
You got got.
Give me your words.

I find it amusing that, in MCYT fics, we still see folks refer to people as British or American or German or whatnot, even though technically that's not where anyone is actually from within the canon of most SMPs. (Except, apparently, Wilbur Soot, who is somehow from Utah and both has a British accent and has a vendetta against the Americans on the server, none of whom can technically even be from America - but I digress.)
The only person I currently watch who can probably actually CLAIM to be from where his accent originates from might be Scott Smajor, who is Scottish irl and also claimed Scotland (or Scottland) while he was part of SMP Earth.
But - yeah. Grian and Mumbo are British and Doc is German and Iskall is Swedish, but the fact that we still describe them that way in a fic-universe where none of those places exist is hilarious to me. It apparently is the equivalent of saying someone is blond at this point.

💜💜💜HI FROM PG💜💜💜
💜💜💜HI FROM PG💜💜💜
Hello there everybody! I thought I would send a message or a post and just let you all know that I miss you and I miss being a very active part of Skippy‘s blog!!
I had my second vaccination the Astrazeneca on Tuesday and had my doctor assessment yesterday and my arm is getting better it’s still is not 100% so I am taking it low and slow and using the dictation software. I know so many of you have left messages such kind words of love and support and I really really really appreciate them! And I want to say a special message to💜🙏🏻💜 CHERUB, 💜🙏🏻💜you know that you are in my prayers every single day. Jesus is with you he will never leave you or for sake you no matter what happens. I will be back probably in another week I think with if my arm continues as it is progressing.
Now I have a few things I wanna say about what’s happening here first I wanna say the visit to Scotland was a rousing success and as usual our Catherine slayed Fashion wise and interpersonal skills wise! I saw someone write a comment that they didn’t like her in the brown and the khaki but I had commented a couple of weeks ago when she wore that beautiful camel coloured coat that I wish she would wear browns and taupes more often so I was just elated to see her wear those long wide leg pants that were hemmed exactly as they should be not dragging on the ground! I just think that this couple can do no wrong and they both very well for the future! Now I am not biased by my affection for the Cambridge is at all ha ha Ha! By the way I received my Hold Still book this week and I also received from Royal Mail Her Majesty’s at 95th birthday stamp first day cover and coin which was reasonably price I think £20? Anyhow the book is very substantial and because of my left arm being the way it is I have yet to be able to look at it because it’s quite heavy and it is a huge book, but I am looking forward to the day when I can hold it and I can enjoy looking at the pictures! Again I say Catherine kudos to you on your fabulous projects! Catherine I also wonder if you’re stealing my word wowza because when you met with Mila for tea, you said wowza as she showed her dress twirling. I’m wondering are you borrowing from PG?? Aka me?? 😂😂😂🤣🤣Catherine you are most welcome to share the word while that I think we are the only two people on the planet that still say it ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!
OK now onto our Harry. Heads together in the UK and many other mental health organizations around the world are doing fabulous work. CBT or cognitive behavioural therapy, cognitive restructuring, EDMR, Hipnosis, that’s spelt wrong but hey I’m dictating hypnosis is spelled HYPNO either we go anyhow those are all legitimate therapies done when they’re done by trained professionals! One thing that has always driven me crazy about Oprah and Dr. Phil who is her who is her surrogate, is they do mumbo-jumbo therapy on tv and have people share their just horrific interpersonal stories with an audience and a television audience! It just it just sickens me to make people so vulnerable for attention and ratings and money and advertising! When I saw Harry doing the tapping and whatever I just felt whether he was doing it for real or whether he’s towing the line as I believe it is just so wrong to show somebody at their most vulnerable!! It just sickens me.
However let’s let us ask ourselves why is this happening now? When ‘her’, l will continue to use the descriptor ‘her’ was doing all the talking a.k.a. lying because every time her lips move we know she’s lying and now she’s been silent. But for the last well since about the time that the Duke of Edinburgh passed away Harry allegedly has flown back to the to the United States where apparently he’s lived for two years one article said which surprises me but anyways what what’s truth and in articles. And he has been everywhere good morning America that all these Apple things with Oprah and celebrities and doing this and that and the other all for mental health!
You know sometimes it’s too much of a good thing. There’s a lot of excellent organizations in Canada there’s a CMH a Canadian mental health Association all over the world. But this constant stream of video and him in our face that’s not normal and the things he saying or lies and their provable lies that they’re not difficult at all. This is NOT NORMAL! IT IS A DELIBERATE OVERSATURATION FILLED WITH SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES IN THE VIDEOS, TRUST ME, SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES IN ADVERTISING IS REAL. TAKE A MAGNIFYING GLASS TO A FASHION MAGAZINE AND LOOK CLOSELY. YOU WILL BE AMAZED WHAT IS EMBEDDED IN THEM. JUST LIKE THE DISNEY VIDEOS THAT WERE SHOWN TO HAVE ADULT DRAWINGS.
In knowing Harry’s dedication to his Queen, his grandmother and his grandfather why on earth would he pick the first few days after the funeral to dig in like this and go so public? Why? We really must ask ourselves why? I will tell you why he is continuing to expose evil! There are all kinds of organizations that I’m not gonna name any “churches” some start with the letter S which many celebrities are members of Tom C is one. These organizations manipulate people and just like the NIXVM did in Canada. These backers are evil people and they’re willing to use people for anything in anyway at any purpose. The last picture I saw of Harry it was a video but I didn’t watch the video he looks so pale and so gaunt and so unwell that even though I believe he is doing the right thing and exposing all this and eventually hopefully eventually this will wrap up with him being free and everyone brought to justice let’s hope and pray, this is taking a terrible toll on him an absolute terrible toll. I have to again harken back to London scoop, everything has come to pass that she foretold way back several years ago when she came upon this information about this plot. I did a post one post last week where I propose the thought that the plot to integrate the British royal family began in the 1990s with princess Diana and I still believe that. I don’t know all the reasons or who the people would be but things things are just smelling very funny very very funny and I don’t mean funny as in laughter I mean funny as an off off off off!!!
So I say let us continue to pray for our Queen her family pray for the Cambridges, that they all stay safe and healthy the whole family to especially pray for Harry, whether do you think he’s doing his duty or you think he’s fallen under her trap and has become some whimpering child, pray for him all the more then because he needs it. If you really believe that he is he is doing this on his own free will because he’s mesmerized by her or he is woke and has become part of the woke world my goodness he needs more prayer than ever! To be released from these bondages!!
OK kids that’s my more than my two cents worth! As you all know it’s never one word thing with me I am very elaborative! I miss you all miss you and you all know who you are! Take care sending you all my love and prayers, PG!! I beg you all please don’t forget about me because I shall return I shall return!
To my dear Skippy, thank you for always being there. Thank you for relay messages. Most especially thank you for this safe space, your friendship and your prayers.
To my MM Anon/ Kensington Anon, thank you so much for your kind messages of love and support I have really appreciated it. I just feel like I’ve let everybody down by not being able to do the stories about the Cambridges. But I shall return soon hopefully in a week I’ll see how my arm is but it’s getting better hopefully in a week. I hope this finds you well, I hope you read this I don’t know if you ever checked my blog but if you do you will see this here.
💜🙂🙏🏻✝️💟PG💟✝️🙂🙏🏻💜

my friend came round once and wanted to get more into solo paul and i was like 'pick a record, any record!!' and they picked wild life. I secretly only put on side 2
like pretty much every badly executed macca concept though there are great ideas in there fighting to get out - some people never know bridge-going-into-chorus is a top 10 (5?) polmoment for me and i am your singer is a beautiful song but appallingly recorded (love the panda scotland 1970 acoustic versh)
good ideas fighting to get out but getting absolutely BODIED by all the bad choices that were made is a very good description of this album.
only playing side 2 was probably a good choice tbh. the first two songs are literally unlistenable for me, like i’m listening back to the album right now and i just had to skip both mumbo and bip bop not even 25 seconds into each song because i just cannot stand them. use real ass words in your songs goddamnit. I actually kind of enjoy love is strange, because i like linda’s voice and the central riff, but my god i wish he’d cut the runtime of the intro a little bit. and again, i think i would like the song wild life, because i love that slow 6/8 time and the harmonies in the backing vocals, except paul’s vocal performance is so shockingly bad that it spoils the whole song. he’s so off key, like i think he’s trying to do a Thing similar to his monkberry moon delight voice but it falls SO utterly flat and it’s so wrong for this style of song imo.
side two is definitely better. some people never know is sonically harmless, if too long, with that very nice bridge to chorus moment; and i totally agree about i am your singer in that it’s a neat song recorded HORRIBLY. tomorrow and dear friend are the only songs on the album that are actually enjoyable to listen to for me. i really think dear friend is one of his beauties (and i would die to learn it on piano). upsetting that it was buried on this album.

Get to Know Meme that I saw @witchofapollo do so I’m having a go!
Do you have a magical/Pagan name?
Not really but a lot of people call me Barns or Barnie
How did you find Paganism?
I’ve always been interested in celtic paganism, norse paganism and other nothern Europe and west Europe spirits and deities, however I was raised catholic so I wasn’t allowed to delve deep into it all. This May though, after a year of doing agnostic witchcraft I finally answered the call of the Green Man, a figure I’ve long been interested in since I was about nine. Its debatable whether they are a deity as such but my personal experience and UPG is that they do have divine like powers.
How long have you been practicing?
About a year and a half?
Are you out of the broom closet?
No, my dad is still very much catholic and my mum calls witchcraft, tarot and crystal things mumbo-jumbo and is very insulting to most people who do those things so I don’t feel comfortable to let my family know. I did kinda tell my sister when I was drunk but she didn’t get it so? not really.
Solitary or group practitioner?
Solitary as I developed my own correspondences for all the things I work with so it would be hard to work in a group.
What is your path?
Rather eclectic but focused mainly on plants, animals, fungi and colour magic with rocks.
D E I T Y
What’s your brand of deism?
I don’t know the proper term but I’m very sure that many deities exist, but I just don’t ever see signs or interact with them, only the Green Man
Who is your patron God/ess?
Again, debatable whether they are a deity but the Green Man
What Gods do you worship?
The Green Man, however I refer to them with they/them pronouns as they present themselves in many different forms. I also will use a specific pronoun if I’m talking about them in a certain moment, for example today she is using she/her pronouns. (This is all UPG and personal experience, please don’t refer to me!)
Do you fear darkly aspected Gods/Goddesses, or rather respect them?
I don’t really understand this question? I’ll try and answer it but I may answer a question of my own making XD I think all deities are flawed and should be viewed as such, but still respected. And depending on your personal feelings and experience with them, you should feel how you truly feel about them, whether that be fear, admiration or neutral.
Do you worship the Christian God?
No, and even though I used to be catholic I don’t think I ever really worshipped Them in a real sense?
Do you worship animals? Or plants?
Oh yes, researching animism is what finally made me start practicing witchcraft.
N A T U R E
Do you regularly commune with nature?
Oh yes!!! I go on walks and rambles a lot and sometimes just sit and let everything breathe with me.
Taken a camping trip just to talk to nature?
No, I’ve not been camping in years due to my dad’s bad back but I hope to soon with Leo, my husband.
Describe the moment you felt closest to Mother Earth?
I went to a rather off the map loch in Scotland back in 2017 and just looking into the cool clear crystal water, the gentle wind brushing my face, I felt so full and enriched.
Do you have a familiar?
Yes, Slartibartfart!
Have you ever called upon the powers of an animal in ritual?
Yes, I often call upon birds, deer or hares.
Or a plant?
Yes, a lot!
Do you hug trees?
Yup!! Its lots of fun!
Give them gifts?
I’ve not in years no, I used to leave little leaf brooches??? Pierced with daisies and clover at the foot of trees when I was about nine or ten.
What are your favorite plants to work with?
Thyme, purple sage, oak and grasses.
What are your favorite trees to work with?
Ooops I said oak in the previous one XD I also like to work with Chestnut trees and hazel trees.
What is your favorite holiday?
Autumn Equinox, I love making wild mushroom dishes!
What is your least favorite holiday?
? I mean, I don’t use the traditional wheel of the year but I don’t have a least favourite holiday.
Have you ever held a ritual on a holiday?
No
Ever taken a day off work to celebrate a Pagan holiday?
No
Do you celebrate Yule on the 21st rather than the 25th?
I’d like to do it on the 21st, but its my sister’s birthday and I’m also not open with being a witch so I don’t. I just do secret things on christmas :p
Tagging: @pleiadic-magic @littlewitchytransboy and anyone else who wants to have a go!

Scott Free in Japan
In an effort to give foreigners a deep understanding of Japanese culture, and create a way, just in case nothing could be done about the drastically declining numbers in the more traditional way, to grow the population someday.
Komorki Research and Development came up with something they called Quantum Vibrational Total Immersion into Japanese.
Thinking it was a fancy new way to learn Japanese Douglas MacTavish signed up for the early tests of the device, informed that it was meant to do more than just teach a new language, and in fact might have some profound side effects. “Aye, ah see, bit it wull teach me Japanese richt?” he asked, “yes,” replied the scientist interviewing the test subjects, “that will be the very least it will do, but we’re not sure what, but it might also do some other things that..”Say na mair, that's guid enough fur me.” said MacTavish interrupting the scientist.
And in the cabinet hooked to the machines, and pipes he went.
Three days later his brothers Ian and Samuel, who were on vacation in Japan with Douglas from East Lothian, Scotland and who had given him a lot of ribbing about signing up saying, “Dinnae come back too Japanese noo ye muckle dumb ginger bastard.”
Then they saw there former younger brother.
And in case you need a Scotts of English translation
“Sure, I've learned a wee bit about Japan, but all the teaching in the world, even when backed up with this ultimate total immersion translation and conversion super science mumbo jumbo will take any of the Scots out of me!“
Well, mother always did want a daughter. But I bet she never guessed she'd get one who was a young Japanese girl.
“Anyway, I’m starving’, let's go get some sea urchin and rice omelettes... what? You’ll love em, I know I do now!”
(not enough room in the balloon for the last bit.)

John Playfair, the mathematician and philosopher was born on March 10th 1748 at Bervie near Dundee.
John Playfair was the son of a Minister and was educated at home and then studied at St. Andrews University. At the age of eighteen, in 1766, he competed for the Chair of Mathematics at Aberdeen’s Marischal College. He failed to secure it and went on to study theology at St. Mary’s College and was licensed as a Minister in 1770, by which time he was in Edinburgh. In 1772 he was again unsuccessful in an attempt to win a Chair, this time the Chair of Natural Philosophy at St. Andrews. That year too, his father died and the responsibility for the family upon him. He became the Minister at Liff and Benvie, his father’s church. He stayed at Liff and Benvie until 1783 when he became tutor to the Fergusons of Raith. In 1785 John Playfair succeeded Dugald Stewart
His best-known contribution to mathematics is his form of Euclid’s parallelism axiom which is mumbo jumbo to me!
John Playfair’s brothers were architect James Playfair, solicitor Robert Playfair and engineer William Playfair. His nephew, William Henry Playfair was an eminent architect in Scotland who designed a monument to his uncle on Calton Hill.
You can find more info on Playtfair here https://mathshistory.st-andrews.ac.uk/Biographies/Playfair

After David Mundell’s attempts to re-brand Scotland out of the Scottish Office, we speculated about what a further de-Scottishification process might look like – “Welcome to the Beautiful Beautiful Banks of Lake Lomond” – “Go in search of the Lake Ness Monster” – “read about the Massacre of the Valley of Coe” etc.
Thankfully Andy Arthur has produced this handy guide. A Monoglot’s Railway Map of Glasgow and West Scotland with no Gaelic, Celtic or other Foreign Mumbo Jumbo …
