From his new mission at Lake Macquarie, he wrote to the Attorney-General in 1825:
I have . . . heard at night shrieks of Girls, about 8 or 9 years of age, taken by force by the vile men of Newcastle. One man came to me with his head broken in by the butt-end of a musket because he would not give up his wife. There are now two government stockmen, that are every night annoying the Blacks by taking their little Girls . . . My wonder is, that more Whites are not speared than there are considering the gross provocation given.

✯ Round 1 ✯ Match 38 ✯
The current flag of Stjørdal (Skierde), Trøndelag (Trööndelage), Norway
Tumblr media
Propaganda:
None
vs
The current flag of Newcastle (Mulubinba), New South Wales, Australia
Tumblr media
Propaganda:
The flag of my hometown is genuinely the ugliest and most unique colour combination I've ever seen. The colours are supposedly cinnamon brown over emerald green to reference a military unit from the city, but it just looks nauseating together. Points for a bold presentation. There are unique elements of this flag that would do well in a redesign, such as the black diamond, but for now it is a hideous and little-known municipal flag deserving of admiration for it's uh... unorthodox colour theory.
Tournament Policies: ✯ Choose the flag that's more meaningful to you! ✯ Be respectful of place names and cultural symbols in your commentary! ✯ If you want to submit propaganda, you may do so at the submission form linked in the pinned post. It will only be included if it is submitted before the next post with that flag is drafted and will be included in all subsequent posts the flag is featured in.

"Whibayganba
Whibayganba is a place of cultural significance within the local landscape of Mulubinba.
Whibayganba was an island. Its beginnings and traditions a complex cultural narrative. Stories originating from a past where ancestral beings created Country, and shaped the law and relations between all living things. Their memories are retained, etched, and spoken of in Country, a legacy that links the Dreamtime with the present.
Local lore tells of a great kangaroo concealed in the island who would thump his tail causing earthquakes.
The island was originally a closed off site, surrounded by rocks and turbulent waters. The strong gale force of the winds that batter the island enabled this place to be a suitable refuge to confine a giant kangaroo. The kangaroo remained hidden in Whibayganba.
In 1855 the top of the island was lopped off by the English, and in 1846 they had completed the construction of a breakwater that was started in 1818. The breakwater attached the island to the mainland creating open access to Whibayganba, access that had been denied for thousands of years.
The alterations are against Aboriginal principles of respecting country, maintaining balance and equilibrium and ensuring protections and conservation of sacred places."
'That's a sad story.' I thought, surely one of many very familiar ones around the country.

The rally in Naarm/Melbourne will also attract support from the tens of thousands of people who've spent the last 3 1/2 months protesting every weekend, normally a Sunday, demanding a ceasefire in Gaza.

January 26 is 'Australia Day', AKA 'Invasion Day' or 'Survival Day'.
There will be protest rallies around the country.
The following text is via 'WAR: Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance':
2024 INVASION DAY RALLY - MELBOURNE — Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung Lands
Invasion Day Rally Melbourne
10AM Friday 26 January 2024
Parliament House Victoria.
We continue to call for treaty, truth and justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The 26th January, Australia Day is not a day to celebrate. It is an annual reminder of invasion, occupation, genocide and the ongoing impacts of colonisation that continues to destroy our lives, our lands and our waters. As the oldest living culture in the world, it is our right and our responsibility as First Nations people to protect our country, culture and our people. That is why we meet this day with protest and mourning, as one of the longest standing protests in the world.
A Dawn Service will be held at 5am at Kings Domain Resting Place, Linlithgow Avenue. This will be followed by the Invasion Day Rally where we will be meeting at 10am at the Victorian Parliament on Spring St and marching to Flinders St Station.
In recent months, distinct lines have been drawn both nationally and globally, marking those who endorse settler colonialism and those uniting to resist the enduring colonial forces that we strive to counteract. The repercussions of settler colonialism have been starkly illustrated in the ongoing genocide of Palestinians by Israel, supported by all other settler colonial states, including Australia.
In the wake of the unsuccessful 'Voice' campaign, the imperative to ensure the resonance of Indigenous Rights campaigns across the nation has become increasingly apparent. The concluded 'Voice' campaign exposed our community to reprehensible levels of vitriol from racists, sparking discussions about our humanity. This unsettling experience highlighted the perils of misinformation and disinformation during the referendum, aimed at demonising the Indigenous struggle. In response to these challenges, we are taking to the streets to demand treaty, truth, and justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
On this Invasion Day, as on every such occasion, we stand united for our families, communities, and all, asserting that all Black Lives Matter.
The Australia colony is a racist nation: there is no other conclusion from the referendum. We know and live this every day. Reconciliation is dead.
We want our land back now!
Join us in our fight to Abolish Australia Day.
We demand:
Treaty/Treaties
Land back and land rights - stop selling land promised to us
End Aboriginal deaths in custody
Climate justice
End the theft of Black children and return all Black children to their families and kin
Abolish police and prisons
Reparations
The Australian government stop arming Israel
We call on everyone to respect our demands and take action with us. We also remind attendees that COVID19 is still impacting our communities and we encourage all attendees to wear a mask, bring hand sanitiser and take all necessary precautions to keep each other safe.
Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance will be available for media interviews in the lead up to the rally. Please email [email protected] for interviews.

Suggested by Nat (her blog, here, was a major gathering point for the blogging fandom back when I started blogging). The first fanstravaganza was populated by Nat, Mulubinba, Traxy, Avalon (blog has been deleted), Reviewerama / Starheart, and Skully (blog has been deleted). They were sort of gen 1.5 as (I’ve been told) there had been a lot of people on LJ before that, although by 2010 it was hard…

Wickham Past to Future
1. What is now called Wickham would have been a part of the area known as Mulubinba and was utilised as a corroboree site for the Awabakal People. Corroboree at Newcastle Joseph Lycett 1818
2-3. Wickham was subdivided in the mid-1800s and by the 1900s was Newcastle's most popular suburb for workers with a population of 7,000 residents. Much of the current urban structure reflects the original pattern of development. Wickham 1894
4.  Decline in local manufacturing in Newcastle in the 1970s and 1980s reflecting trends experienced in many Australian cities saw a re-emerging popularity for inner city areas close to facilities and services. Much of Wickham is still characterised by an eclectic and contrasting mix of larger industrial structures and smaller residential dwellings. Source: Real Estate.com

(The Stranger): There were a lot more tweets about the series filming in Stockport (including Armitage‘s). I…
