Apprentice!Dick shows up in our "normal/standard/regular" DC universe and everyone (batfam, titans, whoever) is shocked and upset by his physical and mental state. Everyone is assuming it is dimension travel and wants to try to help him get back to his dimension, while also kicking Deathstroke's ass to get Dick out of this situation. However, our Dick recognizes that it is Not, in fact, dimension travel, but rather time travel, and he just never let anyone know that the apprentice trauma had happened to him. Our Dick Grayson goes along with everyone else's reactions while trying to hide that he went through this and never let anyone find out.

Soooo I have a WIP i’ve been writing for a little while in which Gale is emotionally repressed and Bucky has a complicated relationship with him crying. Here’s a snippet:

The first time Bucky ever saw Gale cry, truly cry, was when they were in Stalag. Gale was there when the gates opened and he walked in. He held Bucky up as he wavered on his feet, arms wrapping around his waist and bearing most of his weight as he walked him to the cots. Bucky felt strong tremors running through Gale’s body as they moved in sync. They had barely said a word to each other but Bucky couldn’t think of anything to say that would convey what he was feeling then. He couldn’t look away from Gale as he walked down the narrow hallway and helped deposit Bucky on the chair gently. That whole afternoon had been a blur of pain, exhaustion and Gale. He hadn’t manage to look away from Gale for a single second. Eyes following his every move as he fussed over Bucky and wet a cloth to rub at his face gently. Gale remained calm and collected. Threw Bucky gentle smiles and held him tightly when they hugged. Bucky saw his eyes fill with water multiple times as he told him about what he had gone through but no tears fell. He had held it together with strength, wiped Bucky’s own tears away and assured him he’ll be okay and that they’re gonna make it out. He sat beside him all night, waking him up periodically to make sure he was still alive. Laid wet cloths on his forehead as he fought the fever. Hand never leaving Bucky’s own.

During the second night, when Bucky was barely lucid with fever, he had opened his eyes to see Gale with his head resting where he was holding Bucky’s hand in his own. “You got to fight this John” Gale whispered into their linked fingers. “Thought I lost you once. Can’t do it again” Bucky was about to turn and tell him he’s alright and that Gale needs to go to bed because his back was going to kill him in the morning with the way he was crouching like that. But he fell silent in shock as he felt moisture on his knuckles. Gale was crying silently against his hand. His breathes left him in quiet huffs as he held on to Bucky. Tears falling drop by drop. Bucky felt helpless as he squeezed his eyes shut. Felt his own eyes burning as the wave of emotions hit him like a freight train. It felt surreal to witness this. To witness Gale crying. Crying over him. Years of wondering what would make Gale break and in the end, it had been him. It filled him with shameful hope. Hope that maybe what Gale felt for him was more than just a friendship. I thought I lost you too. He thought but he had told Gale that already it feels like a privilege to feel your tears on my hands. He remained silent. Gale obviously thought Bucky is asleep so he refused to interrupt Gale’s private moment with useless words. He didn’t want Gale to put on that mask back on have to pretend he’s fine for Bucky’s sake so he just pretended to sleep. He kept his grip on Gale’s fingers strong, though. His thumb rubbed soothing circles on his knuckle as sleep and fever swallowed him again. If Gale noticed it, he never said anything about it and that was that.

Hello! Your posts are very enlightening and I'm inspired by how much you read. Might be a weird question and I'm sorry if it is but do you have any good book recommendations for a USAmerican trying to expand their worldview? I.e., histories of other countries/global regions, imperialism, etc.

i have some, but also recommend looking through @metamatar / @fatehbaz / @lafemmemacabre / @killy / @sawasawako / @handweavers (these are the mutuals that stand out to me but just the tip of the iceberg) &other blogs that have a more robust collection of resources –– i have learned a lot from them over the years!

𐲱 HOW TO MAKE KNIFE

Step 1

find a good rock. any rock works but flint or obsidian good. glass also works. bone also works. of course use metal if ytou can sharpen it

Step 2

hit it with n another rock to turn it into a point. be really careful with obsidian or glass because it shatters. with those ones go at the edge with something hard likie bone or a horn to slowly chip away parts from the edge. like press it against the edge and slowly take parts off. or just sand it down if you can do that idc. idk how to do this with metal if i use those i just kinda use a shard and tie it really tight and hope it stays

step 3

do the same but take down the middle. there are two ways you can do this to make it attatch

way 1

take it in from the sides to create an indent to tie with and to keep the head in place

way 2

create a little hole in themiddle. yuo can decide if its better or worse to do it thisway by how fragile the thingy is when you take it down because the really fragile ones will just fuckin shatter if u try to do this to them. only do this if you hve a drill or your using metal so you can melt a hole in there or something

Step 4

make the stick. you can use lots of stuff you can use the horn you used tochip the thing down but then you dot ahve a horn so i dont recommend it. you can either tie it to the side (this fucking sucks) or cut a little line in the thingy to put it into . you wanna justjam it in there super hard so it stays. if you use way 2 above then you wanna drill the hole into the handle also

Step 5

Put some kind of glew in there (you make glew by boiling animal bits like sinew and fat and bone and skin and then skimming all the weird sticky stuff off) you can also make it out of plant sap but its not always as sticky but i like tree sap lots. you can like boil bark to get some if its the wrong time of year for sap because its actaully always the right time of year for sap its just sometimes it doest come out because its cold

then you wanna stick it in there super hard and jam it into the thingy and tie it up. if youcut the slit too big you can force some stuf f into there. squishy pieces work best so like wood. slices of wood or sticks or stuff but do it before the glue dries

Step 5

this is whhere you want to decide how you wanna tie it. all materials work for both ways above it just changes how you tie it. if you do way 2 you can figure it out yourself because i cant be bothered to make 2 knifes to show you both

materials you can use

- string

- yarn

- vines (can be very chunky try to use smaller ones) (also can be fragile (gragile = breaks easily))

- animal sinew (best)

very hard to put into words how weird it is to see so much league hype and content rn, ive played for 10+ years and it genuinely sort of feels surreal for the lore to be a focus of the community for once

honestly it feels strange to see ANY sort of hype to existing for the game outside of the player base and like its the LORE, TOTALLY FREE TO CONSUME that's getting people involved in the game/universe, and it ESP feels like vindication after riot scrapped the universe site, stopped putting out colour stories, shut down riot forge, has basically made a skeleton team of the legends of runeterra game- the best game riot has ever released and the biggest effort theyve ever made to open the world up and explore the lore

if arcane wasnt enough for you, i beg you go poke around youtube and watch some of the old league content, the cinematics are so beloved by the community, the parody songs (this is war from falconshield, anything from instalok) AND riot's officially released anthems and songs (most with lore stories depicted in their music videos), necrit is great for lore explanation videos of the wider world of runeterra, all the alternative universes like pulsefire, star guardian- theres just so much lore and a library of stories to go read (and a published book though I was not a huge fan), if you dont want to play the moba you can play the ruined king game, song of nunu, convergence, mageseeker (steam/xbox/ps/switch/etc), legends of runeterra (totally free to play card game with very fair and generous card collection methods), teamfight tactics, just- theres even a ttrpg (Legends of Runeterra: Dark Tides of Bilgewater) you can play with your friends if you dont want to sit down an play a video game

rlly at the core of it all i just hope with arcane riot sees that they should be investing in the lore and hiring genuinely good writers (so we dont repeat the SOL event MOST IMPORTANTLY) but also so they see that the content they put out doesnt always need to have a price tag to generate revenue/interest for them, and what keeps people coming back is the world they created

TLDR: ARCANE ONLYS I LOVE YOU PLEASE GET INVOLVED WITH MORE OF THE UNIVERSE THAN JUST THE SHOW I PROMISE YOU ITS GOOD

Rn I’ve been really into TexaCali bc I’m basic lol. I love me a repressed cowboy and I want to study both of these absolute disasters! Texas and Cali are both horse girls btw & I like to imagine they go on little horse adventures like in the old days. I like how people write/characterize these two in such a way where they balance each other out it’s VERY interesting to me heheh!

I also am finding myself kind of partial to Vermont/New Hampshire as well. They give off MAD married for tax purposes vibes idk. Coming from someone from New England, Vermont and New Hampshire really don’t hate each other as much as it’s joked mainly bc people go back and forth through each state a ton, so I like to headcanon that at some point their old rivalry ended when they actually TALKED to each other alone for once and realized they really weren’t that salty and now they fight as a bit just to keep gov on edge.

these are my two favourite books about the history of south asians in malaya/malaysia, the first focusing on south asian migration and settlement in malaya and the latter focusing on sikh migration and settlement across southeast asia. my family are 5th gen malaysian sikhs so both of these books have been really influential to me

the first book focuses a lot more on the tamil and other south indian communities of malaya (naturally, given that they are the majority of malaysian indians) while detailing the places where the status of various north indian communities in malaya were similar and different to those of south indians due to a variety of colonial economic practices. malaysia as an independent country was established in 1957 and this book was published in 1969 so as expected it doesn't go much into post-merdeka life.

the second goes into not just punjabi sikhs in malaya but across seasia, detailing histories and experiences of sikh communities in indonesia, thailand, laos, cambodia, philippines, and elsewhere. reading about sikh communities in other southeast asian countries and noticing similarities and differences between us is really cool. of course, the chapters on the malaysian sikh community are particularly fascinating to me.

first title is 'indians in malaya: immigration and settlement 1786-1957' by kernial singh sandhu and the second is 'sikhs in southeast asia: negotiating an identity' edited by shamsul ab and arunajeet kaur
