summary: Lando and Y/N go on holiday together during the summer break and come home engaged.
A/N: Keep in mind throughout that I have no idea how the luxury life works im broke asf so it may be inaccurate😭and sorry for quite a few time skips I had a bit of writers block😭

Tumblr media
Y/N and Lando were currently halfway through their flight en route to Mykonos for a week while Lando had the summer break. The couple had a few things pre planned for the week in Greece such as a party boat they had booked prior to the holiday and Y/N was hoping for no more injuries on Lando's end after the incident in Amsterdam and going to a few tourist attractions, but they mostly just wanted to spend time with each other, they didn’t care what they were doing as long as they were together, and of course they were staying with Hilton as the couple always had the best experiences with Hilton hotels and being a sponsor of McLaren, it was only right they chose Hilton.
Lando was scrolling on his phone and he felt a weight on his shoulder, he looked to his side and saw his girlfriend asleep on his shoulder. The love of his life, his best friend, his girl and hopefully, soon, his wife. She had been by his side since before he made it into f1, he remembers vividly how excited she was when he told her he was offered a seat with McLaren, she seemed more excited than he was, and she hadn’t left his side since. He smiled at the memory. He had a whole plan set in place to propose to Y/N, he couldn’t wait to propose to her, he had brought the ring around 2 years into the relationship when he was out with Max and he saw the perfect ring that just screamed Y/N to him and he’d just been waiting for the perfect moment, which was this holiday and also their 5 year anniversary.
time skip to landing
Lando was looking out the window in his own world when he heard the pilot over the intercom.
“Mr Norris, we will be starting descent in Mykonos in about 10 minutes so please get ready to fasten your seatbelt sir.” On cue, he saw the little seatbelt light come on above his head. He gently shook Y/N to wake her up.
“Darling, we’ll be landing soon, you need to put your seatbelt on.” He spoke quietly as he knows she doesn’t like loud noises when she first wakes up. She stirs and slowly opens her eyes and lifted her head off Lando’s shoulder. Lando looked at her with a soft smile and a little chuckle escaped his lips at the sight of the woman’s messy hair.
“Hey sleepy head, pilot just said to put our belts on we’ll be descending soon.” She nodded at him as she fixed her hair and put her belt on, Lando doing the same next to her.
As they got closer to the ground, Y/N grabbed hold on Lando’s hand to comfort herself as landing was probably her least favourite part of flying and he rubbed her knuckles in a comforting manner.
After landing, they grabbed their luggage and made their way to the chauffeur who led them to the car provided by Hilton to take them to the hotel.
small time skip cus I’m lazy
They arrived to their room in the hotel and unpacked their suitcases and got changed into some clothes more suited to the warm climate of the island they were on for the next two weeks as they had an early flight and when the couple arrived it was only early afternoon After changing, Y/N and Lando left the hotel and went for a small walk around the town and get anything little essentials they may need while on holiday like bottles of water, snacks for the hotel room etc.
“Don’t forget we need to buy sunscreen aswel, since somebody left it behind being the clever clogs he is.” Y/N said, giving Lando a cheeky smile.
“Ha Ha, very funny cheeky.” Lando replied sarcastically, pinching her side softly. The couple laughed as they continued to walk in and out of shops and buy the essentials.
Later on that day, Y/N was relaxing on a sunbed reading her book and Lando was next to her on another sunbed with his hat over his eyes. About half hour later, Y/N was now lying on her stomach so she could tan her back aswel as her front and she felt a pair of hands smack her bum. She looked behind to see her boyfriend with a boyish smile on his face, she smiled back at him and rolled her eyes jokingly at his actions.
“Do you want another drink baby? I'm going to the bar.” Lando stated and she nodded.
“Same again please Lan, I'm going to head up to the room for a little siesta, it’s getting pretty warm out here.” He nodded in understanding knowing how easily the heat got to her sometimes, that’s why he always made sure she was well hydrated and was taking care of herself.
“Okay baby, I’ll grab our drinks and I’ll come up aswel and have a quick shower or something.” She nodded at her boyfriend before he left to go get their drinks from the bar. She packed up everything she had brought down to the pool with her and made her way into the hotel and up to their room.
couple days later
Y/N was relaxing on the balcony of the hotel room while waiting for Lando to get back, he’d told her he was going out to get some more water for the room when in reality he was sat in the hotel reception talking on the phone to the manager of the restaurant he was planning to take Y/N to on the last day of the holiday, their anniversary, to finalise any details about the proposal and the booking details.
“So, you’ll tell her you’re going to the bathroom and one of our waiters will lead her out to the beach? Is that correct Mr Norris?” the manager asked Lando over the phone.
“Yes, that is correct. Thank you again for helping me with this. It means a lot.” Lando replied, the manager smiled at the idea of young love.
“It's quite alright sir. Right, that's all booked and ready for you for a few days' time.”
Once everything was finalised, he thanked the manager and hung up the phone and left the hotel with a small smile on his face at the thought of him proposing to the love of his life in the next couple days and made his way to the little shop 10 minutes from the hotel and grabbed the bottles of water like he had told Y/N he was doing.
He walked back to the hotel and into the hotel room where he was met with the sight of Y/N asleep on the sofa in the living area with the balcony door open to let a breeze in and her book covering her face. He smiled in amusement and put the crate of water bottles down and he made his way over to the sofa. He crouched down in front of her and took her book from off her face, keeping his thumb on the page so she wouldn’t lose her page and quickly put her bookmark in place before closing it. He gently shook her awake.
“Wake up sleepy head. We need to go downstairs for lunch soon.” She opened her eyes lazily and looked at Lando with a sleepy smile which he returned with a smile of his own. She slowly sat up and picked up her half drunk bottle of water off the table in front of her.
“Hey pretty girl, the sun tired you out huh?” He joked, stroking her thigh. She nodded softly before speaking.
“Yeah, and it didn’t help next door had a crying baby and I couldn’t focus on my book, so I just came inside.” Lando chuckled at her response.
“We’ll be heading down for lunch in a minute if you wanna go freshen up a bit beforehand.” The curly haired boy spoke, Y/N nodded and made her way to their bedroom to put a clean top on as she had some sweat stains that didn’t look flattering at all and touched up the small amount of makeup she had on which consisted of just concealer, mascara and some lip balm.
The couple both headed down to lunch, indulging in conversation about the most random topics causing them both to start laughing. The couple were suddenly interrupted by a little girl, who looked no older than 5 and had a little bunny stuffed animal in her arms, who came up to them and tapped Y/N’s arm softly.
“Excuse me miss, can you help me find my mummy. I was with her and my older brother and now I can’t find them.” The older woman’s eyes softened at the sight of the tears in the little girl's eyes. She nodded at her.
“Of course, sweetheart. What’s your name?” Y/N spoke in a gentle tone.
“Emily, I’m sorry for interrupting you two, but I recognised Lando because Jack my brother is a formula one fan and I’ve seen him on tv, so I thought you two seemed safe rather than a complete stranger.” Emily admitted shyly, Lando nodded at her with a smile before the couple stood up to help her find her brother and mum.
“You did the right thing sweetie. C’mon we’ll help you find your mum” Lando spoke, he held the little girl's small hand in his and the three of them made their way over to the front desk at reception.
“Excuse me, this little girl has lost her mum. Do you have any idea where she could be?” Y/N asked the lady on the front desk. She nodded and made her way around to the front of the desk so she could talk to Emily.
“What does your mum look like sweetheart?” She asked as she crouched down to her size.
“Brown hair, green eyes, she had a long blue dress on, she was with my older brother who was wearing red swim shorts and a Minecraft t-shirt” the receptionist nodded at her. All of a sudden, they heard the voice of a woman, Y/N looked up to see a woman matching Emily’s description of her mother.
“Emily! There you are baby!” She ran over and gave her a quick hug. Emily pointed to the three other adults before she spoke to her mum.
“The helped me mummy. Lando and his girlfriend helped me find you and the nice lady on reception!” Emily walked over to Y/N and gave her a hug which Y/N reciprocated.
“Thank you.” Emily muttered smiling up at the couple. They both smiled at her.
“Thank you for helping my daughter, we were so worried!” Her mum exclaimed.
“It’s fine honestly! I can’t imagine how worried I’d be if I’d lost my kid in a resort this big.” She replied, the two women chuckling at her response. Lando looked to Jack and smiled.
“Hey buddy, I hear you’re a formula one fan? Do you want a photo?” He asked and Jack nodded quickly, the children’s mum pulled out her phone and Jack walked over to Lando and the pair took a photo together. Jack said a quick thank you to the driver before the little family headed off and the couple went to their room to get ready for the party boat they were going on later, which thankfully did not end in any injuries on Lando’s part this time.

the last night of the holiday
Tonight was Y/N and Lando’s last night of the holiday, and it was their anniversary. After a morning full of cuddles, kisses, some less PG stuff and exchanging cards and gifts, the couple had spent the rest of the day walking around visiting little landmarks around Mykonos and getting gifts for family members.
They were now currently getting ready to head out to the Italian restaurant Lando had booked for them. Y/N was wearing a flowy white dress that came down to just below her knees and Lando was wearing a plain white dress shirt and some khaki shorts that Y/N had brought him just before they came to Mykonos.
“You ready sweetheart?” Lando shouted to Y/N from the bedroom. She walked in and smiled at him.
“Yup. You ready?” She replied walking into the bedroom smiling at Lando who was sat on the bed. He reached out to her and rested his hands on her waist and pulled her into him, he pulled her down slightly and planted a kiss to her lips.
“You look stunning baby. An absolute princess if you ask me.” he expressed with a small smirk on his face. She grabbed her bag off the bed and grabbed Lando’s hand and the couple made their way out the hotel and to the restaurant.
Once they arrived at the restaurant, the waiter took them to their seats and took their orders, coming back shortly after with the drink orders which was some red wine for both of them. When they had their food brought to them around 20 minutes later, they ate their food while talking about anything they could think of. There was never a dull moment with Y/N and Lando’s conversations.
After eating and having paid the bill. Lando was about to put the plan into motion.
“I’m just gonna head to the bathroom before we leave gorgeous. Won’t be long.” She nodded at Lando, what she didn’t realise was Lando was actually leaving through the back entrance of the restaurant to get to the beach across from the restaurant without Y/N realising.
Shortly after, the waiter came over to Y/N and held his arm out for her to take.
“If you’d like to close your eyes and follow me miss.” he requested. She skeptically complied and took his arm as she closed her eyes, and he took her across to the beach where Lando was waiting by the ocean.
Once she was in front of Lando, he silently thanked the waiter and he left and went back to the restaurant. Lando grabbed Y/N’s hands in his and she took that as a sign to open her eyes and her and Lando were the only ones on the beach and the only sounds was the water crashing onto the sand. Lando began to speak.
“Y/N, from the moment I made it home after our first date when we were 19, I knew you were the one. You’ve been with me through the ups and downs of not only my life, but my entire career and I could not thank you enough. You experienced my first podium with me and my first win and every other milestone in my career and I’ll forever be grateful to have you by my side for everything. My mum always told me as a kid that when I meet the one, I’d feel it. You’re the one Y/N. You’re my person.” Lando announced. Y/N’s hand flew over her mouth as Lando got down onto one knee and pulled out a red velvet box, opening the box to reveal the most stunning diamond ring, tears were welling in both of the adults’ eyes.
“Y/N M/N/ L/N, will you make the happiest man ever and marry me?” He spoke with a hint of emotion in his voice. She vigorously nodded her head, tears flowing down her cheeks.
“Yes Lando! Of course I’ll marry you” she replied. He grinned up at her and placed the ring on her left ring finger as he stood back up, hearing distant claps from people passing by and sat outside the restaurant who had witnessed the proposal. He then cupped her cheeks and pulled her into a passionate kiss full of love. The newly engaged couple pulled out of the kiss and smiled at each other, eyes filled with just as much love as the day they met.
“I love you so much my darling girl. I can’t wait for you to be my wife.” He grinned ear to ear at his now fiancée.
“I love you too my love. I can’t wait to be married to you and spend the rest of our lives together.” She replied, smiling back at her fiancé.
They made their way up the beach, walking along the shore in a comfortable silence. Y/N was first to break the silence.
“Oh my god I just realised I can now put my Pinterest board to use!” She exclaimed in excitement, clapping her hands together with a beaming smile on her face. Lando let out a laugh at her. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders and Y/N wrapped her arm around his waist.
“I knew you’d say that you muppet” Lando joked. She smiled softly up at him.
“We’re both muppets but we’re each other's muppets.” She corrected the driver. He just smiled at his girl.
“That we are beautiful, that we are.” He softly chuckled as they continued to walk down the beach.
Once they got home from Mykonos early the next morning, Y/N and Lando had announced the proposal on social media and rang their families, who were all very happy and excited for the couple.

Chasing you
Tumblr media
Summary: You’ve been on the run from Carol after sending a drunk voicemail. A month later, Carol has found you and doesn’t plan to let you go.
A/N: Came out of a writing hiatus cause I love this woman. There’s not enough carol x reader fics on this app and she gives me the warm fuzzies. Comments and reshares are appreciated :)
Warnings: Pretty PG-13, playful teasing, fluff, some tears, few misspellings, mentions some characters from The Marvels
Three things were painfully obvious as you woke up. This wasn’t your bed. These weren’t your clothes. The “Space Girls Do It Better” sleeveless crop top didn’t belong to you.
Oh, and there was a fluffy, orange flerken licking its genitals ontop of your chest. A pretty deep cleaning by the looks of it.
“Um.” your voice croaked, the result of a long nap. “Mr. Flerken sir, I’m going to move you and place you on the floor-” Three tentacles shoot out from the confines of its mouth, wraps around a nearby metal dresser, and swallow it whole.
An audible nervous gulp can be heard from your throat. “New plan. Leave when it pleases you.”
Armed with the killer fluffball, you creep along the cramped halls of the spaceship and take in the colorful murals that are painted inconsistently through the halls. One reads vaguely familiar, “New Jersey.”
What’s a New Jersey?
In the back of your mind you have a nagging suspicion of the identity of the owner of the ship. But if you were right, then that would be a bigger problem than someone undressing you while you were unconscious.
You enter the main pilot room as a childlike scream jars both you and the flerken.
Kamala Khan’s wide eyed, all teeth smile shines from across the room. “OMG you’re awake!”
“God, no.” you groan. You plead to the heavens that this is all just a stress conjured dream even as the teenager morphs a hard light disk to propel her forward to tackle you into a warm hug. “Kamala, please tell me you're the owner of this ship and you’ve gotten your spaceship driver’s license early?
Her lips curve. “Sure.”
A relieved sigh depletes from your body.
“Sure, I missed you. But this is Carol’s ship. After you left she’s been tracking you for the past few weeks. We got an alert that you were involved in a bar brawl on the planet Aladna yesterday. When she found you, you were already beaten unconscious and bleeding from the attack. Carol scooped you up and took care of your injuries in the med bay.” Her signature dopey smile returns. “She nearly blasted the whole bar apart when she found you. It was epic.” she sighs with a faraway look.
Her smile wouldn’t be so bright if she knew you had no interest in being on the same planet yet alone on a small ship with her honored captain. Your frantic eyes start to scan every nook and cranny of the room. As if Carol would materialize from the launch keys at any moment. You drag Kamala to the control panel and start to hit buttons at random. “No, none of this is epic. Kamala, afraid we need to cut this reunion short. Drop me off at the nearest planet or station. Shoot, give me a space jumpsuit and I’ll simply float outside in outerspace. But I Can Not. Be. Here.”
Kamala gives a sly look at how you’re acting. “Carol said you’d try to jump ship once you woke up.” she smiles as she pets the flerken still in your arms. “Something about you being embarrassed over something moronic.”
And there it was. Until now there was a slim grasp of hope that Carol hadn’t known what you did but this just confirmed not only did she know but she wasn’t going to let it go. Goody. No way would you tell the whole story of how you’d gone out drinking with some Skrull girls because Carol was driving you crazy in her freaking halter tops. Then you found out she was married to a prince! Sure, it was only a political marriage but still the revelation made you want to punch something or someone. So drunk out of your mind, you left the most pathetic voicemail of all time sounding like a teenager with a crush. Talking about how she attracts you more than the rules of gravity. What was that! The voicemail ended with your declaration to take the prince of Aladna in a fight if that’s what it took to get her attention.
In your defense, she does like to fight. So you did punch someone…or several someones at the bar.
“It’s nothing.” you blink away the memory. “Carol didn’t have any right to kidnap me off the planet”
“Aren’t you a little old to be “kidnaped?” the dreaded voice calls out from behind you both.
You whip your head around, guilt written all over your face even as your jaw slackens at the hottest, yet fatigued, space hero in the galaxy.
But at the moment Captain Marvel just looked like Carol. A half smile gracing her lips even as she leans against the entrance. Bare arms out, another damn crop top that barely covers her belly button, and an empty space of tantalizing skin at her stomach before the top half of her supersuit hangs limp at her hips.
It was giving off duty lesbian about to repair an engine and it was making you absolutely feral.
Which is why you held the flerken outstretched in her direction.
“Not another step, Danvers.” you warn. “This flerkin here has taken a liking to me and isn’t afraid to defend me.”
Carol tilts her head and her full teasing smile tasks force, causing a full quiver in your heart.
Taking slow, meticulous steps toward you, not caring about the fur-covered danger dangling from your hands. “You’ve taken a liking to my pet, sweetheart?”
A spurtle of incoherent nonsense leaves your mouth. “It found me when I woke up. I even named him Ginger.”
“Real creative.” her deadpan sarcasm does not go unnoticed. “Put Goose down before he decides to eat you.” You get ready to fight the command but ‘Goose’ does a loud meow and you decide that’s him agreeing with his apparent owner.
Her eyes flicker to the noisy teenager next to you. “Kamala, go find another wall to destroy.”
“Aye aye, captain.” You make a desperate attempt to grab Kamala but the small betrayer just mouths “You’re in trouble.” before prancing away.
With Kamela’s exit the room is too quiet and the once spacious room feels tiny and empty, leaving only the bruising reminder of why you’ve avoided Carol for weeks. Sure, your friend can fly, shoot rays of energy from her fist, and literally crush you with her bare hands but none of that ever scared you. It wasn’t your physical body you were afraid she would break, but the fragile, sensitive heart you always protected. But then there was Carol with her small, gentle smile and her laughing eyes and a warm presence that made you want to be soft instead of sharp with pointy edges.
Under Carol’s gaze you were a giant raw wound that was left open and too exposed. You just knew Carol could see it.
Which is why getting off this ship was imperative. With a new, hardened resolve you turn around and commerce pressing every button in sight.
“You trying to order a pizza? Because there’s an easier way than having us crash into the nearest asteroid.”  The pull of her voice is so strong after weeks of zero contact but you ignore it nonetheless. Not that it deters Carol. “But maybe your bad driving is a result of getting your ass whooped down on Aladna.”
She’s baiting you. Do not give in.
“I mean the fact that you got your butt handed to you by a group of people who normally only fight in song has to make you mad, right?” The silence in response finally gets to her as she stomps up to the dashboard controls and undos every button you’ve pushed in concession. Each time she reaches for a button near yours, fingers a centimeter from touching, you yank away and take a step away. She grunts in return and counters with another step closer.
Her next jap finally hits her mark with stinging precision. “Maybe next time you should ask the Prince for backup.”
A response fires out your mouth even as you slam your hand against a particular shiny button. “I had it handled, okay? That pretty boy prince might’ve impressed you somehow but his presence in a fight is as needed as yours is to me right now.” The lie turned your stomach and made you feel like Goose’s shit. “You had no right and no reason to take me off that damn planet because I had it covered. Just drop me off at the nearest planet.”
Carol could smell the lie a mile away. The words bounced off her chest. If anything she was trying to hide her arrogant grin at successfully getting your undivided attention, knowing it would make you more pissed. Which was always an adorable sight.
When her sources flagged a sighting of you on Aladna she’d left the spaceship at supersonic speed to reach you after hunting your trail down for the past month.
At first, friendship was all she needed. But time spent together on various missions gave her deeper understanding on how darn sweet you were despite scratching at anyone who tried to get close.
But once she clicked play on that cute, yet slightly violent, voicemail any vague restraints of being only friends were dashed. Now here you were, her prickly kitten, and she wasn’t going to be deterred by any of your rounded jabs.
Now here you stood. Causing internal issues to her ship's mainframe. Slight bruises marring your delicate skin. All reminders that you’d rather be dropped in outer space than occupy the same room with her. Well tough luck. Patience was never her strongsuit.
A blur out of the corner of your eye was the only warning before the sudden warm body surrounded you from behind. Two unyielding hands grasped yours in an attempt to halt any further error messages from appearing on the dashboard. “Are you not satisfied with my ship, sweetheart? Because you’re awfully determined to break it.” In another determined step she removes any space separating you two until her front is flushed against your back. Tense doesn’t begin to describe how rigid your body gets as you realize, to your detriment, she’s forgone a bra. Even the tiniest move from her causes her soft, malleable breast to move against your back. Your knees buckle even as you silently curse Carol for completely smashing the boundaries of your personal bubble.
Warm fingers grasp each of your hands and her thumbs caress circles on each hand that shoots straight to your flamed core. A whisper of her lips speaks into your ear, tingling all the way into your spine. “Six. There’s six bruises across your delicate body from that stupid fight. But you didn’t need me, huh?”
The touch and slight reprimand in her voice makes your body shiver. “T-that’s not what I meant.”
“Oh?” You peek behind to see her face as her fingers gently travel down your arm. Brows furrowed with an intense glare as she inspects your minor injuries in detail. “But that’s what you said, no?”
In an effort to clutch the last remaining shreds of your pride you squint up at her but end up lowering your glare. “Even if you helped me, that didn’t give you the right to take me off the planet.” you murmur. “And who changed my clothes!”
The gentle hand remains on your arm but the dark look is dashed away, replaced with a serene smile. “Obviously that was me. Like I would allow anyone else to get a peek at what’s mine.” she snorts. As if the idea was simply absurd.
All fight leaves your body at the new startling news that Carol, your Carol, just called you hers PLUS  she’s seen you naked?
You gear up to start a rant but two arms twirl you around and hefts you up. Your legs and arms cling to her even as you yell at her to set you down.
Bullheaded Carol ignores you and instead leisurely walks to her pilot seat. As if this was just a normal Tuesday. When she plops in the driver seat, she settles your weight to straddle her hips. Immediately, you try to scramble away but she wraps her arms around you in a metal vise. That damn innocent smile returns. “The chast act ends now. Because I was prepared to let you go but then you left me this.” It’s like a slow motion car accident as she pulls her cell from her pocket and the dreadful voicemail is played at full volume.
Renewed vigor allows you to break out of her arms but you're too slow as one hand holds you in place on her lap. Making you listen to your drunk declaration of love.
The tears come as you're forced to helplessly listen, already anticipating the mockery that was soon to come, except Carol didn’t laugh. Instead, you felt soft, slow kisses press against your wet check, trailing your tears.
Carol nuzzling your neck is the only thing stopping your crying as you realize she wasn’t laughing. Her tired smile and fatigued smile returns. “You're so dramatic, kitten. Don’t ask me what “right” I have to kidnap you and bring you on our ship after you left a message like this for me.
Sensing you were no longer a flight risk, her hard grip releases your wrists. Instead, she traces your face, rubbing away your tear trails. “For now on, you're coming back and helping our missions, warming my bed, and if you start anymore bar fights you better finish them or have your girlfriend there to finish the job for you.”
For the first time in a month, a genuine smile graces your face. Brave enough to fully settle your weight on Carol’s lap, you grasp the nap of her neck to angle her lips for a kiss. When your lips finally connect a deep, dragged out moan leaves Carol’s mouth. Her hands slide up your thighs and squeeze your ass. “Don't run away again.” she warns.
“Aye aye Captain.”

mr. iceman, sir
Tumblr media
icemav (wc: 1.5k)
summary: they called him Iceman for a couple of reasons. Jake is sweating under his stare. a snippet of Jake asking Ice to marry Bradley
warnings: none, mostly just fluff
author’s note: based off of the song ‘Sir’ by Cooper Alan. the first time i heard this song, all i could think of was Jake asking Ice to marry Bradley. thus this was born.
————————————————————————
They called him Iceman for a couple of reasons.
Ice cold.
A lot of it had to do with his eyes. Thomas Kazansky had a stare that could freeze hell over. They were pale blue—unnervingly so—and bone chilling. It was as if their chill could seep right into you, get under your skin, turn your blood cold and make you a bit sick to your stomach before you even knew what was wrong with you. One glance was enough to bring a grown man to his knees.
No mistakes.
He had nerves of steel. Nothing surprised him and not much got past him. He was cool and careful and calculated in all scenarios. He'd come face to face with a MiG and not break a sweat. Swing and he wouldn't flinch. He didn't take risks because he didn't need to. He just knew.
Even as a near retired admiral and many years past the days of when he was a young pilot in his prime, Tom liked to think that he still lived up to the name. Even if that meant making Jake Seresin squirm in his seat a little bit.
The blonde aviator is looking a bit green around the gills if Ice must say so, nervously tugging at the too tight collar of his white polo shirt and glancing over at any and all possible exits of the restaurant when their conversation temporarily dulls down.
If his husband were here, he would have probably placed a gentle hand on Ice's knee and told him to go easy on the kid. But Maverick is not here. It had been Ice that Jake had nervously approached and shakily asked out to dinner, his voice so tight Ice thought it was going to crack. At first Ice had been unsure of why Jake had chosen him over Maverick. Maverick was obviously the easier choice. It wouldn't have taken much to win him over, maybe a case of beer and a bit of groveling, but certainly not a high-end steak house. But the more Ice thought about it, the more he appreciated the effort. Maybe the kid was smarter than Ice gave him credit for.
Now they're sitting across from each other at the restaurant, Ice picking at small pieces of his steak and pretending not to notice the young lieutenant's discomfort. Jake had picked out the place himself, a five star wine and steak house that neither of them had ever been to. Even Ice, who had a penchant for treating his husband to lavish dinners simply because he could, had to admit the place was a bit over the top.
Ice had shot an inquisitive, almost accusatory glance over at Jake when the server offered him an Old Fashioned without any prompting. Playing innocent, the twenty-six year old had simply conjured up a look of pure surprise, as if he hadn't been aware that it was the admiral's drink of choice, and then ordered one himself.
Ice is on to him, but he can't honestly say he's mad about it.
Jake: I      Ice: 0
Because he doesn't like being played, Ice orders one of the pricier steaks on the menu. Jake winces a little at the price. Much to Ice's amusement, Jake swallows back a bit of dismay and follows suit, asking for brussel sprouts as side instead of green beans. Jake has never touched a brussel sprout in his life.
Jake: I      Ice: I
They make small talk about work, Ice doing more of the talking than Jake. He doesn't mind, more than used to making the best of work meetings that he doesn't want to be apart of. Jake keeps most of their conversation centered around Ice, asking about his job, which Ice is more than happy to talk about. With retirement closing in, he's gotten more questions about buying a vacation home than anything Navy related.
Jake pushes around the brussel sprouts on his plate, at least making an effort to make it seem as though he's eaten anything in the twenty minutes since they've gotten their food.
Finally, Ice watches as Jake seemingly builds up some courage, swallows back what's left of the whiskey cocktail in his glass, and then sets it back down on the table.
"Sir, I'm sure you know why I asked you here."
If Jake was hoping that he would get off easy by vaguely hinting at where he was heading with all of this, Ice would give up the oblivious act that he'd been putting on all evening, he's sorely mistaken. Ice stares at him cooly, raising an unimpressed brow.
If Jake could disintegrate into his seat, he would, but somehow he finds the courage to continue.
"I know that Bradley and I have had our moments. We've fought with each other a hell of a lot, but we've also fought to be together, and I think that says more about how much we love each other than anything," Jake says, sounding determined. Ice doesn't stop him so he continues.
"That year we spent apart after we broke up, that was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life," he admits. "I didn't think I was going to survive it, being apart from him."
Ice knows. He knows because he orchestrated it. The truth is, after the Uranium mission, Bradley screwed up. Ice still isn't quite sure of the details. He doesn't know what or when or who or how or why, but Bradley screwed up and broke things off with Jake a few weeks after the mission. After that, the worst thing for everyone would have been for them to stay stationed in the same place. So Ice sent them both halfway across the country. It killed him to send Bradley away, especially after he and Maverick had only just gotten him back, but it would have looked bad had only Jake been sent away.
"And so I've never been more sure of anything in my life when I say I want to marry him." Jake swallows. "That is, if you'll let me, sir."
Silently, Ice waits a heartbeat. Then another. He stares at Jake, his fixed expression neither surprised nor relieved. He thumbs fondly at the gold ring on his own finger under the table, the one Maverick put there nearly twenty years ago. With his other hand, he supports his chin, index finger tapping periodically against his temple.
"You know," Ice finally begins, removing his hand and sitting up straighter. "That no matter how many laws they repeal, what the government say is legal and what's not, it's still going to be hard. In this line of work, people are going to look at you different. They're going to talk to you and talk about you different. This kind of thing, it could very well change the entire trajectory of your career."
For just a second, Jake's green eyes dart away, suddenly interested in a spot on the wall. Ice watches as his throat works and his jaw clenches, but eventually Jake nods, his green eyes coming back to meet Ice's. "I understand that, sir. I think he's worth it."
"I'm not trying to discourage you son. But I've been in this business along time. So has Captain Mitchell. It's no secret that my husband gave up a lot of things when we went public with our relationship. Of course we were later on in our lives than you are, and so I had the time to establish who I was before we got married. Meanwhile, Maverick was doing god knows what," he adds, trying and failing not to picture the many many reports that came across his desk of all of Maverick's escapades during that time.
That's besides the point at the moment. What he's trying to say is that he wouldn't blame Jake for being a little selfish. Ice knows Bradley. As great of a pilot as he is, that's all he's ever going to be, because he's okay with just being great. He's a lot like Maverick in that way. He'll stop applying for promotions in a few years, spend less and less time in they sky and more with his feet on the ground. He wants to settle down in San Diego sooner than later, raise a family close by to Maverick and Ice.
Ice also knows Jake. Jake, he's a lot like Ice. What's good is not great and great isn't good enough. Jake is ravenous. Ice sees it in the way he flies, the way he acts, the way he talks. If given the choice, he'd never settle. The kid would soar through the ranks if given the opportunity. But also like Ice, he'd give up just about anything for the person that he loves.
Jake has gone quiet from across the table, having gotten the sense of where Ice was heading with this.
Ice clears his throat. "But I'm not going to tell you no, Seresin. Such a thing would be hypocritical of me being that I am a happily married man. That and my husband and I are quite fond of you. We'd be happy to have you in the family."
Even though Jake is trying to conceal his bleary eyes and is making an effort not to smile too hard, his relief is apparent in the way his tense shoulders finally let up. Ice presses his lips together to suppress his own smile.
"I promise I won't let you down, sir."

gale meeting eden's parents 🤭 nervous out of his mind

"Don't be nervous," Eden soothed gently. She caressed his broad shoulder in reassurance. She could feel the way his body trembled beneath her touch and what she was once confident in, began to make her weary. He was that nervous to meet her parents?
Contrary to popular belief of the times, Eden was born to educated parents. Her mother was a nurse and her father was a teacher who retired just a few years prior. He spent time tutoring children in mathematics and science, his area of expertise. She had a sister who passed away at a young age, therefore she grew up as the sole child in the home.
Her parents were kind and loving people. She'd hardly seen them angry or act inappropriately, so she struggled to see why her boyfriend would be so nervous to meet them. But, she had to remind herself that she knew them in a way he didn't, and meeting her parents was supposed to be intimidating. He should want to make the best impression possible.
"They'll love you, doll," she reassured, pressing her lips against the corner of his mouth. "Promise."
The journey to her parents' home went by quickly. Soon, they were outside the door of the brick home. As Gale stood at the threshold of Eden's childhood home, his heart raced with a mix of excitement and nervousness. He smoothed down the front of his shirt, adjusted his collar, and took a deep breath to calm his nerves.
As the door swung open, revealing Eden's parents, Gale couldn't help but notice the warmth in their smiles. They greeted him with open arms, an action he was not anticipating. Eden's father, a sturdy man with broad shoulders, a thick beard, and dark eyes, extended his hand in a firm handshake, "Major."
Gale shook his head, "Gale, sir. Nice to meet you." Her father's eyebrow quipped in approval. He nodded slowly and Eden's mother stepped in front of her husband, a soft smile on her face.
Eden was a spitting image of her, just deeper in complexion and with her father's eyes. Her mother's embrace was warm as she enveloped him in a gentle hug, expressing her delight at meeting the man who had her daughter head over heels. "Wonderful to meet you, Gale."
Gale reciprocated their gestures, offering a genuine smile and a polite greeting. He was mindful to convey respect and sincerity in his words and actions, knowing how important this moment was to both Eden and her parents, who was smiling joyously at their interaction.
"Gale."
His eyebrows raised at the stern calling of his name by Eden's father, who'd long finished his meal and was patiently waiting on dessert. Gale hummed, "Yes sir?"
"When you plan to marry my daughter," he said gruffly, "come to me first, y'hear?" Gale's face reddened but the shy smile on his face failed to conceal his joy. It seemed that they were on a better foot than he anticipated.
Gale nodded once, "Yes sir."
Throughout the evening, Gale engaged in conversation with Eden's parents, eager to learn more about their family and background. He listened attentively to their stories and anecdotes, finding common ground and shared interests along the way. Eden's father, though no pilot, had an interest in the mechanics of planes, and Eden's mother enjoyed gardening just as his mother did as a child. Small similarities that were bound to bring about a strong connection between them.
Despite his initial nerves, he found himself feeling increasingly comfortable in their presence, swaddled by their warmth and hospitality.
As the evening drew to a close, Eden's parents expressed their approval of Gale, Eden's mother squeezing him tight and pressing a kiss against his temple. The love of a mother seemed to heal wounds he thought were long closed.
Her father gave him a hefty pat of approval and a stern look, a sign to remember his comment from earlier in the dinner.
"Wasn't so bad now, was it?" Eden teased as he prepared to take her to her apartment. Gale smiled softly and shook his head, "Not at all." The seas of anxiety had been replaced by waves of relief and gratitude. All he wanted was for the parents of the woman he loved to love him too and it seemed to be working in his favor.
Walking away from the evening, he knew that this was just the beginning of their lives together as a couple, and he was eager to continue fostering strong bonds with both Eden and her parents. And it was a journey he couldn't wait to embark on. Together.

Heres something I've been thinking about working on for a while now and I'm finally getting to it. Heres the pilot of it, let me know if you guys want me to make it into a full series (which I might do anyways🧍‍♂️)
Here's the link on Ao3 for the series if you prefer to read on there :)
Weird Science | Pilot Chapter
[Egon Spengler x Fem Reader]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Summary; honestly I don't know what I'm gonna do with this, I'll leave the summary to finish later.💀
[Notes; This is a fem reader and it is mentioned quite a bit, this is to make things a little easier to write but I may consider making it a gender neutral reader if enough people want it and ask. [This is also kind of a long one for a pilot chapter.]
[Warnings; Some swearing and mentions of smoking. [Also very very minor mentions of drinking.]
Part 1/? | Next Chapter>
꒷꒦︶꒷꒦︶︶꒷︶︶︶︶꒦꒷꒦︶︶꒷꒦︶︶꒦︶︶︶꒦꒷
"Hey, can you hand me that soldering iron please?" I say, holding my hand out.
"Of course Dr. L/n," Theodore says, handing the iron carefully.
Theodore Thalmann was a freshman student majoring in Computer Engineering at Columbia University, the very University I've worked at for 7 years now.
Theodore came for an internship to work with me, wanting to learn a little more visually than just reading some book, writing down notes, and listening to some old guy talk for hours on end, and frankly you couldn't really blame him for not wanting to deal with that.
Theodore was a sharp kid, not lazy like most of these kids now, and willing to learn rather than just be here for some extra credit, that's what you liked about him so much.
"Do you need anything else Dr. L/n?" Theodore asks, writing a bit more into his notebook.
Just then, a knock at the door interrupted your thoughts.
"Yes actually, can you go get that for me?" You reply, taking the protective glasses off of your face.
You get up out of your chair, taking off your black rubber gloves and placing them in their respective area. You liked things organised in your lab, it was much easier to find exactly what you needed, and it was also that you never liked a mess where there was work.
"Is Dr. L/n in here? I need to have a word with her." A voice you were far too familiar with comes from the door where Theodore was standing.
Oh, this can't be good.
"Yes she is, come on in Mr. Yeager," Theodore says, letting the man inside the lab.
"Ms. L/n, pleasure to see you again.. as always." The man says snarkily.
You turn around and walk towards him.
"Hello, Mr. Yeager. Come to complain about the music volume again? I promise I hadn't played anything today, whatever you might've heard must've been someone else."
"No, actually, I wanted to talk to you about something more serious. Do you think you can get this student to be somewhere else so its a more private conversation?" The Dean says, smiling sarcastically.
Dean Yeager wasn't exactly fond of you, hense the use of your last name rather than Dr. L/n, regardless of how hard you had worked for that title. But to be quite fair, you weren't very fond of him either, so it was more of a mutual hate. There were probably a lot of reasons why he wasn't very big on you, but one of the most obvious had to be the fact that you played your music too loud while you worked. Far.. too loud.
"Of course sir. Um, Mr. Thalmann, would you mind stepping outside for a few moments? Me and Dean Yeager need to speak to eachother in private," You say, turning towards Theodore.
Theodore gives a nod and takes off his pair of gloves, placing them haphazardly on a nearby worktable then stepping outside of the lab, shutting the door.
"So, Ms. L/n, I wanted to inform you that you will no longer be working here at the university, I'm giving you a one month notice so that way you may pack all that you have and get out of here by then, is that understood?" Dean Yeager says, a shit eating grin on his face.
"Excuse me?" You say, after a few moments of silence.
"I said you are out of here in a month, fired, let go of, from the university, Ms. L/n," He repeats, venom laced in his voice.
"But wh-what am I supposed to do about Mr. Thalmann? I can't just tell him-" You stutter, still letting the fact you're being fired sink in.
"We will move him with Professor Dietz, someone that actually has a degree to teach, Ms. L/n". He says, cutting you off.
"But I've worked here for more than five years now, you can't just let me go. I graduated from this very University Mr. Yeager, for what reason do I deserve to be let go?" You say, anger becoming more prominent in your voice as you continue to speak.
"We are letting you go because of the constant loud music, because of the constant loss of electricity on the campus due to your failed experiments, because of your lack of necessity and funding of being here, Ms. L/n. We cannot continue to fund and pay you just for you to cause disruptions and only be useful to students if they are working under you as an intern. Even when you do have them, they only complain about how you do absolutely nothing in ways of teaching them, you are the issue, Ms. L/n."
The students don't think I teach them? But they've never complained.
The thought of the past interns you've had having bad thoughts about you and your ways of teaching them hurt far more then being fired. Sure, you got good pay from the university and your projects were funded, but the students wanting to come in and learn more about what you just so happen to love was the reason why you were still working there in the first place. And sure, you would sometimes blast music while showing and teaching them, but they never complained.
"The students never complain though, I do my absolute best to teach them Mr. Yeager, I don't underst-"
"That is the last of this conversation, Ms. L/n! You will be out of here in one month, and you will get no more students doing internships with you from right now to the day that you are completely gone from this place! Goodbye, Doctor." Dean Yeager says, walking out of the lab, shutting the door.
After a few moments Theodore comes back into the lab, slowly and gently closing the door.
"Ah, Mr. Thalmann, um there's going to be a change in plans for you with this internship unfortunately. I hope you don't mind but you'll be moved to go and work with Professor Dietz starting tomorrow, I do apologise," You say, straightening your back.
Theodore stays quiet for a minute, the air thick with awkwardness.
"What Dean Yeager said about all the other students disliking you and your teaching, I don't agree with him. I like your teaching and don't think its right of Dean Yeager to just fire you on the spot like that, Dr. L/n." Theodore says awkwardly, trying to lighten the mood of the room.
"Thank you, Mr. Thalmann, but unfortunately that still doesn't change my situation about my work here. I truly do appreciate all of your help and willingness to learn more, especially from me for these past couple of weeks. You're a great student and I'll be honest, I envy Professor Dietz for getting to teach you," You say, a slight smile on your face.
"Thank you, Dr. L/n, do you need any help cleaning up?" Theodore asks, taking the rubber gloves from the table and placing them next to yours.
"No, no, there's no need for that at all, you're free to go early today, thank you for the help Mr. Thalmann."
"Alright, thank you again for teaching me Doctor, I hope everything else goes well for you," Theodore puts the lab coat you let him borrow folded up onto a clear table, then leaves the lab.
You sit down in your rolly chair, clearly worn out as it was bought almost 8 years ago in the late 70s. Even with its rips and threads sticking out from it, as well as the black soot stains and worn cushions, it was still comfortable and somewhat soothing. It reminded you of when you first started working here, about a year after you graduated from the university. And now that you think about it it makes you a little upset that for the past 12 years now this university is all you knew.
Sure you had your own apartment and went out for groceries sometimes, but you never had friends that you still kept in touch with, so you never really went to bars or parties. And at this point having an apartment proved useless as most of the time you would fall asleep in your lab, you would eat in the university's cafeteria, and after that you would just get back to work and drown every other sound out with music from the radio or your cassette tapes.
You get up and grab your coat, leaving the lab to go outside.
You pat your pockets and pull out the cigarette tin, hoping you hadn't run out of any, and to your relief you had just two more left. Grabbing one out of the tin and placing it lightly hanging from your mouth, then lighting it and inhaling the smoke.
You make a mental note that you'll have to go to the drugstore and buy some more.
"What the hell am I gonna do now?" You mutter to yourself, taking another drag of your cigarette.
"Y/n? Is that you?"
You turn your head to see an old friend you hadn't been in touch with since you've graduated at this university.
"Ray?"
"It is you! Oh am I glad to see you. Its been, gosh, how many years now? How have you been? What are you doing here?" Ray says excitedly, asking a million questions all at once.
"Its so great to see you too, Ray. I've been okay these past years, and I work here actually." You say, giving a light chuckle.
Well, more so like you worked here.
"You work here?"
"Yeah, I've been working here since after we graduated actually, what are you doing in terms of a job?"
"I work here too actually, I'm surprised I never seen you around here. You remember Venkman and Spengler though?" He says, taking a half used cigarette out of his pocket.
"Yeah, how can I not remember Venkman, the guy constantly harassed and flirted with me until I graduated, kinda annoying. But I don't recall ever speaking to or interacting with Spengler though."
"Well I've actually been working with them two for a couple of years now, we're working on some equipment and studies to see if ghosts and entities are actually real, parapsychology you know. It would kinda make sense for you to not remember Spengler though, he was a quiet isolated sorta guy. Mind lending me your light?" Ray rambles on, gesturing for your lighter.
You hand him the lighter, taking another drag from your cigarette yourself as he lights his.
"That's neat, I honestly can't believe that I hadn't known you were here though, I would've loved to talk to you and hang out more after graduation," You say, grabbing your lighter back from Ray.
"We should go out for drinks sometime! It'd be a great way to catch up with eachother, I could bring the other guys too! Maybe all of us could ask you questions about our equipment. Given that I don't really know how to do it and all but you're the one that got a Doctoral in Computer Engineering and'll know a bit more than me, but mostly just to hang out with eachother again, like old times!" Ray says excitedly, a smile on his face.
"I'd love to go for drinks with you guys, not sure I'll be of any much use now though because I've just gotten fired by Yeager and have to move all my stuff out by a month from now, so studying and doing experiments are not something I'll get to work on for a while now," You chuckle, putting your cigarette out on the palm of your hand.
"Oh thats such a shame, Y/n I'm sorry that happened. It seems like Yeager has got a grudge on you too, huh?" Ray says sympathetically, putting a comforting hand on your shoulder.
"Yeah but honestly, I totally deserved it. Do you remember those series of blackouts throughout the campus that would happen twice a week? Those were all me and it took him 5 years to get sick of it and finally fire my ass,"
You laugh, now feeling a bit better about the loss, mostly because you get to speak with Ray again.
"I heard from some of the other professors that the cause was coming from the engineering and computer science halls, it reminded me of you in a way, and it seems I was right about it!" Ray laughs, letting out a dry cough afterwards.
God, Ray has always had such bad smoking problems. I can't say all that much though because that'd be too hypocritical but that cough is starting to get worse.
You two continue talking a while longer, forgetting how long you've been out there until hearing all the ruckus from the students getting released from their classes.
"I should get going now, Peter and Egon are probably wondering where I went by now. Oh! How can I get in touch with you by the way?" Ray says, turning back around toward you.
"I'm usually over here in my lab but it seems it won't be like that much longer, but here's the number for my home telephone, call me if you need or want to plan anything and if I don't answer leave me a message for my answer box," You say, pulling out a notepad and pen from your pocket, scribbling the number down, ripping out the page and handing it to Ray.
"Thanks Y/n, I'll remember to call you later on! Sorry about the whole getting fired thing, by the way, but I hope we see more of eachother. I'll talk to you later!" Ray says, taking the paper and waving goodbye as he runs off to a different area of the university.
---------------------------------------
Once you were back into the lab, you looked around to see what you should start packing. You didn't have much space at your apartment so you would either probably have to rent out a storage unit or call your parents to see if they could store some of it in their attic at home.
First I need to get boxes, and then a bunch of bubble wrap and foam so none of my equipment or computers break. I'll have to go and buy some from the post office.
You go and grab your keys and head back outside of your lab, locking the door before you leave. Walking to your car, you take your keys and unlock the door of it.
As you sit down and turn the key it stalls, taking a few more tries before it finally starts. I really gotta get a new car or at least get it checked out.
You start to drive to the nearest post office, and due to the horrible New York traffic it took you about 20 minutes to get to it even if it was only half a mile away. But that's what you got yourself into deciding to move to one of the most populated states in the US.
You park, grab your wallet, lock your car, and proceed into the post office.
You see the large amount of people in there, checking their post boxes, mailing out letters, and waiting to get their packages accepted to be sent out.
You walk to the area they have the boxes set up, grabbing a few medium sized ones and proceeding to the shortest line so you can purchase them. Once finally at the front, you place the flattened boxes onto the table.
The man nodded and pulled out a large roll of bubble wrap, placing it on top of the boxes.
"Hello, just these and also, do you guys have the big rolls of bubble wrap?" You say to the man at the desk, who already looked far too tired.
"Is that all, ma'am?"
You nod, taking your wallet out of your coat pocket so that way you have your money ready.
The man punches numbers into his machine, looking at each thing on the desk as he does so.
"That'll be $21.47, ma'am."
You take 22 dollars out of your wallet, handing them to the man as he takes it, placing the bills into the register and grabbing a few coins for your change and handing them and the receipt to you.
You thank the man and take the boxes and bubble wrap with you, struggling slightly at how awkward it was to hold the 10 flat boxes and bubble wrap in your arms.
You open the trunk of your car, putting the boxes and bubble wrap in, just barely fitting to where you can close the trunk door.
God, this is gonna suck.
꒷꒦︶꒷꒦︶︶꒷︶︶︶︶꒦꒷꒦︶︶꒷꒦︶︶꒦︶︶︶꒦꒷
I literally wrote all of this in about 7 maybe 9 hours total because I just thought up something and was like, "oh yeah, this'll be great," and that's at least what I'm hoping now. I want this to kinda be slow burn and I know that's what I always say when I do series, and I never finish them, but I am really hoping I'll be able to do more with this then my other failed attempts at series [if I take longer than a month to get another chapter of this out I want you all to yell at me and tell me to finish it]

The ship you’re ushered to is much nicer than anything you’re used to flying. It’s sleek and polished like a dream-- there’s even that stiff, earthy, chemical smell of newly processed leather. Haibara and Itadori must be absolutely buzzing with jealousy; you've never touched anything this advanced, let alone either of them.
It takes a second for you to marvel over the system before you take your seat. Luckily, manual controls for all flying vehicles are pretty much standardized, so you easily flip yourself into gear, then the star ship. The engine hums, a tape of music crackles to life and you almost feel normal.
But this isn't like any of your normal loads. You’re used to cargo that doesn't move or talk, piles of who knows what that sit in the back. Special passengers are usually reserved for pilots that have that shine in their eyes, that desirable something you just don't have.
When you were new, they had you fly a Jedi to some forest planet. He was a man with hair darker than the sky and earlobes stretch wide enough your finger could have slipped through. He had ducked himself into the back of the ship without a word, not even sparing you a parting glance when he departed hours later. It was like you weren't even human-
or, based in the whispers around him, too human.
Back then, the disdain that surrounded him cut deep, but those wounds have long since healed and the scars are thick enough to guard your feelings.
Nanami boards, walks directly to you and says. "Thank you, I'm ready whenever you are."
Like it’s nothing.
He stands there, a bound booklet in hand, waiting for you to respond. A delicate pen is tucked into the binding, nib red with ink. That pen has touched papers more important than anything you’ll ever do with your life.
Nothing proper comes to mind, so you just nod to the Senator, kurt and quick.
The only other seat in the cockpit is to your right. You think that he can’t possibly want to sit there, so close to you, but then he does, buckling himself in like he could ever possibly belong here, with you. The trim of his coat brushes against your leg. It’s a simple, innocent touch, but  your brain immediately betrays you. It goes blank mid pretest, sputtering over the fact Nanami Fucking Kento is less than four feet away from you. A bundle of papers is tucked under his arm, a delicate pen trapped into the binding, and your heart soars at the sight of it.
There’s a crackle over the transmission giving you clearance for take off. That’s just enough to snap you back into place. Work, you remind yourself, this is just work. You mumble a confirmation into the receiver and force a couple of even breaths.
A couple of switches and calmly flashing lights are all it takes to embark. Thrusters off, traction down, engines on and clear-- before you know it, you’ve slipped  out of the hanger and into the gravity free drift of space. Then, with a couple more steps, the slipstream of hyperspace pulls you in.
Despite Haibara and Itadori’s protests, flying truly isn’t difficult. It’s a groove you slide into, a space that your brain clicks into, a version of yourself that just activates when you need it. Flying makes sense, more than anything on the ground ever did.
Most importantly, space is quiet. It’s eerie, how it almost crackles with nothing, a fog of sounds that pass by too quickly for anyone to ever make out. It’s peace, it’s joy, it’s everything you wish you could hold in your fingers-
Senator Nanami sighs to himself and you are immediately, violently uncomfortable with the lack of words coming from your mouth.
“I’m sorry for the lack of official transport, sir,” you say, before you can stop yourself.
“Don’t be.” Nanami doesn’t look up from the paper he’s reading. His glasses sit above the ridge of his nose, angled low. It reminds you of an old man, but in a charming way. The angles of his face are classic and sharp, familiar in ways you’ve seen before and long to see again, but his nose is off kilter, bumped slightly at the top from a break that happened years ago.
“Haibara speaks highly of your abilities, Mrs. Nine,” he continues, tapping his pen against the paper. He pauses slightly, then circles something in bright red. The delicate curve of his wrist, the way his thick fingers so carefully hold together: how the mighty have fallen-- you’re finding this erotic somehow. You need to get laid the second you get back on base.
You’re staring. You snap your attention back to the front.
“Mei Mei also had good things to say about you,” he continues, “So far, I am not disappointed.”
Your ability to get off the base impressed him. The Senator must have low standards.
“Thank you, Mr. Senator.” You manage to keep your voice even and professional. Despite how strange your chest feels.
“Nanami is fine, Mrs. Nine.”
“Miss.” You shift in your seat and the leather creaks under you with an embarrassing sound,  “It’s, uh- Miss. There's no Mr. Nine or anything.  Nine’s not even my name- it's just a call sign.”
Your hand slips off of the control. Your whites have gone pale from the pressure of squeezing.
“‘Cause like, I’m Pilot 333, and three plus three plus three is nine. So, they call me Nine. Sometimes Niney.” You’re talking, but your brain has left the building.  “It’s stupid. Haibara came up with it when we were newbies and it stuck. I don’t even think people know my real name, to be honest.”
He hums a sound and it immediately silences you, jaw audible snapping shut. "It suits you, Miss Nine."
Your cheeks might be on fire. This is everything you ever wanted, and yet your brain is betraying you. The Senator -- no, Nanami, he’s letting you refer to him casually-- is so far about your station, so much better than you by employment alone, and yet he’s looking your way, expression neutral and yet, almost, perhaps, soft-
"I really like jizz,” you blurt out.
Nanami slowly looks up over his glasses, eyebrows raised so high that his forehead creases a million times over. He parts his lips and then closes them with a befuddled sound, then opens them again.
"Excuse me?"
"Jizz?" you gesture around the cockpit, "The music-- it's called jizz."
"Oh," he clears his throat twice, then a third time, "On my planet, that is a colloquial term for- never mind. The music is fine. Please, don’t say jizz."
The next seven parsecs are almost completely silent, covered only by the upbeat swagger of jizz.
Lighting yourself on fire might be a less painful experience.
The next four hours are marked by only a few distractions. Hyperspace is filled with the silence you used to crave, but you can’t focus on that. Instead, you’re lost in how the pit smells like some sort of sultry, woody tone, almost like Spice but with an herbier finish. It’s just a drop in the air, something that you almost have to search for, and that gives it that luxurious edge that most men miss. Restraint, you think, it’s applied with restraint.
You want to ask what scent he’s wearing, but you can’t find the nerve to speak again.
You’re going to have to ask Haibara what jizz means.
Judging by the Senator’s pink cheeks, it’s nothing good.
Does jizz smell good?
Nanami hasn’t written anything for the better part of two hours when you blink into the outer orbits of his planet. The fall out of the pocket is a bit abrupt, bad enough you both get caught by your seatbelts. Mei Mei will scold you about that when you return. Usually you’re so smooth with it-- you blame the fact this is a new ship.
From a distance, the planet is just a dark, blanketed ball, hanging around a singular red sun. It’s massive, easily three times the size of your own planet-- twice the size of Coursant! A moonless planet, forever alone in the sky, it orbits all on its own.
Somehow, you’re disappointed. This isn’t the jewel you were promised. There’s no strings of lights or flashing megas cities like the other vacation planets you’ve seen. It’s just quiet, simple, and storming.
“We are arriving.” You stress the ‘are’ a bit to be playful, but it doesn’t sound natural. He hums an agreement and you dive down.
The atmosphere is thicker than you imagined, but it’s no issue. Clouds have their tells- bumps where pockets of pressure are waiting to tilt your ship, smooth bits where the air is much colder than the rest. You’ve known how to speak their language since you first sat in this seat, so you listen and descend. The Nav systems buzz and crackle with an irritating amount of static, so you manually flip them off.  They weren’t going to get used anyway.
The clouds give way and you emerge into the planet proper.
“Oh, Maker.”
“What's wrong?" Nanami’s head shoots up, grabbing his seatbelt in preparation,"I told you the Navs wouldn’t work-"
“No,” you cut him off, “It's just beautiful.”
Rolling hills go on as far as the eye can see, crescendoing into mountain ranges and wooded peaks, powdered by drifting white flakes. Snow. You've never seen snow in person before. Even through the quilted sky, fragments of sunlight illuminate golden soil, painting the world with a spectacular depth. A long time ago, on Naboo, you had seen someone bathe their entire canvas with ochre, brushstrokes so thick  the cotton canvas’ texture was lost. Then, with a mastery you didn’t think possible from droids, let alone organics, he built the scenery on top, forming art with only a backlight of sunshine. That art, purchased with too many credits and carried home wet, was nothing compared to this.
The craft hovers as you drink it in. Night is approaching, touching the edges of what you can see.
“I thought it was going to be like Canto Bight.” You swivel to get a better look. There’s dots of lights, simple towns scattered across the landscape like glow worms on their strings, “But it’s not at all.”
“The bigger cities are starting to look that way, but we’ve been passing legislation to protect the natural aspects.” Nanami’s voice is warm. He’s moved to the edge of his seat, straining and watching as if he’d never seen any of this before. “Our main revenue is tourism and it’s done our world so much good, but it means nothing if we lose the core of what this planet is.”
Snow vibrates in the air, carried upwards by the draft your vessel has created. It’s like hyperspace with its swirls and streaks, a simple beauty you forgot could exist. In the distance, beyond the curve of  the world, a blue glow tinges the horizon. A city, cloaked in the night that rolls in. It’s nothing compared to what’s in front of you, you’re sure.
"It's nothing special."
“Are you kidding?" you breathe,  “It's a gem.”
“Thank you.” You can see him turn to you in your peripheral, lingering for a long while before speaking. “Can you believe this is considered our worst season?”
“How could it possibly get better?”
Nanami doesn’t turn away, silently studying your profile. You can make out how his eyes, just as pale and sapphiric as the frozen landscape, bounce back and forth, searching for something in your features.
He doesn’t turn away.
Why doesn’t he turn away?
Panic that you’re being weird sets in again. Was that childish? Did you embarrass yourself without even knowing? Suddenly, your clothes feel coarse and cheap against your skin and the air feels unbearably hot. As much as you try to escape it, the scent of it must cling to you- that Outer Rim nobody stench.
Of course it's strange that you're marveling. Thousands of tourists visit every year and you can bet that none of them care about the landscape.
Oh, Maker. Nanami Kento is the one behind the spike in tourism. Insulting the city like that must have come off as an insult about him.
You long for the rainy surface of home, where the only thing you could smell was the iron rich mud.
“Where should I land?” You try to regain your composure. The rims of your eyes burn a bit as an unknown cacophony of emotions begins to rise up.
The man lingers a second more before sliding back into his chair, neck rolled back to watch the ceiling.
“Sixty clicks behind us.”
His voice isn’t sweet anymore.
The burn grows stronger. You never let your hopes rise, and yet they fall further still, dug into the ground under the boot heel of disappointment.
. . . . . . . . .
The landing pad is carved out of a stretch of mountains. The dusted blanket of snow is pushed aside into uneven piles as your craft settles down, only slipping slightly against the iced over stone. The engine hums with an uneven thrum, pulsing then sputtering in a way you expect from a motorbike, not an advanced transport vessel. An unsettled feeling sits in your stomach as you flick through the power down procedures, sliding off the traction and turning off the friction reducers, cutting off fuel and limiting battery.
Errors aren't common. There might not even be one, but something sticks in your gut like glue, refusing to be digested.
Nanami seems unaffected. It's easy to chalk the uneasy nature of the landing to pilot error. He ghosts a finger over the papers once again, pretending to proofread once again. You doubt there's anything left for him to even discover in that text.
Everything on the dash is green, happily blinking in placid paces. If something were wrong, you'd be seeing orange lights, stroking, or--
“Oh, shit."
Or that. You shoot up to examine the gauges more closely. One strip of lights right above you is completely dark, the lights burnt out. One of the fuel meters is powered all of the way down, arrow pointing past empty.
Spaceships don't consume fuel the way a gasoline based engine does, they run partially on hypermatter: fragments of planetary core, augmented and altered in ways engineers couldn’t even begin to explain to you. The resulting thick slurry produces energy with such a high frequency that a ship can then enter lightspeed in hyperspace. Most ships can run on a sliver of it for lightyears, but the power supply isn’t endless. Cores do still need to be replaced quite frequently, especially nicer vehicles like this one.
According to this little meter, yours should have been replaced a long time ago. “Oh, shit.”
The Senator sits up, gripping the arms of his chair. When he realizes you’re on the ground, he relaxes, but only barely.
“Nothing major, just-” God, he’s going to think you’re incompetent. How did you not notice this before? The Out Station is one of the few places in the Inner Rim to easily refuel-- there’s no way you left with a battery so low.   “Uh-”
You’re trying to think and talk at the same time, but failing at both. You had to have checked this before you left. You had to. You had to.
“It’s not a big deal, don’t worry about it.”
Apparently, you aren’t convincing.
“I will be worrying about it, so please just tell me.”  Nanami closes his book with a clap.
“I think the hypermatter is almost depleted,” you admit, flicking the meter as if it’ll make the arrow move.  “Or there’s something wrong with the generator. I’m-- I’m not sure.”
“You aren’t sure?” Nanami parrots, voice pressed and deep.
“I’m a pilot, not a mechanic.” You try to walk away, stumbling over your seatbelt on the way. Above the doorway is a tiny toolbox, simple but effective for minor emergencies. Minor being the keyword. You can tighten a bolt, not fix a warp drive. “I’m just guessing."
The door slides open and the bite of cold air immediately eats into your cheeks and peels your lips, but you press forward, ignoring how your body immediately protests. Both your planet and the Out Station are tepid all year round; you knew snow was cold, but you didn’t realize cold could be painful. Those romantic snowflakes are crystalline weapons in the wind, cutting into your face. No wonder this isn’t considered ‘peak season.’ The cold snatches the breath from your lungs and the flimsy material of your fly suit does nothing to stop it as you jump to the ground. Snow is also slick and you just barely save yourself from falling on your ass. It takes everything in you to walk normally to the hull and begin unscrewing the flap.
Boot steps on the bridge surprise you. Wind tousled and perfectly bracing the weather, the Senator stands at the door, peeking down at you. He’s pulling on a thicker coat and gloves, things you didn’t even know he packed, as he tucks his chin into the fur trim.
“It’s okay! I’ve got it covered!” you call. The weather might crumple him if he's not careful.
Nanami narrows his eyes as if he knows what you’re thinking and then jumps as well. He handles the ice with much more grace than you with no sign of shivering. Right- this is his home. You’re the one from a hot planet.
“I just gotta look and make sure it’s not leaking, but I really can’t do anything beyond basic repairs,” you explain, teeth chattering between words, “Do you know any engineers that could possibly…?”
“The only place would be in the city," he says, coat pulled tight. He leans over to inspect, then shakes his head; the law is his wheelhouse, not this. “And I’m afraid that would cost you an arm and a leg.”
“Well, I can’t afford another leg," you blanch, "This one was 200 credits."
He stares at you blankly.
"Because my--"  Bad joke. Instead of explaining, you go back to work.
A couple more twists and the hull pops off suspiciously easy in your hands. Not a good sign. The wiring isn’t neatly draped as it should be, but tangled, the plastic casings cracked and faded. When you push them aside, bits of red and blue crumble into your palm and even more descend into the depths of the engine.  Your legs are bouncing with shivers, the muscles twitching desperately as you scramble for answers. When the way is clear, you shimmy your torso into the hole, moving more bits and pieces until the hyperdrive is fully exposed.
“Be careful,” The Senator warns.
The parts of a spaceship are complicated, filled with superconductors and alluvial dampers and inertia controls. You aren’t entirely sure which part is which, but you know the hypermatter core.
And you know it’s not supposed to look like that.
Fragmented glass still holds its shape, but the broken bits are opalescent with pearled beads of liquid. You dip a finger into it and your skin vibrates, physically shaking so hard that the edges of where you begin and the world ends are untraceable.
“Shit, shit, shit.” Your breath curls up as you speak, “Yeah, she’s leaking. Damn.” Cursing makes you feel better, “Damn, damn, damn, shit, it’s eaten into the stellar fuel container too."
There's no way this thing can run. It can't even hold fuel.  Hopefully it holds heat well enough that you don't freeze over before help can come. On second thought- maybe it would be nice to freeze to death. Sounds better than dealing with Mei Mei when you get back.
"It must have been on the fritz and the last slip out of hyper must have pushed it over the edge," you reason.
“I’ll contact your Out Station and have them send over a new ship to get you home,” Nanami says, shuffling closer. “Come on, let’s get inside.”
A chill has already set into your knuckles, stiff and harsh. You peel back another panel, the metal almost crumbling in your weakened grip. Maker, you almost killed a fucking Senator. If this trip was any longer, you could have been absolutely space dust.
“It’s okay, sir, I can handle this,” you lie as you blindly twist at spark plugs and knock against the chipped core. Yup-- that sound means this is way above your paygrade.
“You don’t have a jacket and it’s freezing.” Nanami steps towards you, bending over to see for himself,  “Besides the point, hypermatter is toxic. If there’s a leak, you shouldn’t be- well, don’t touch it.”
You pull back your hands from the glass. The Station’s probably been leeching this shit into your water for years; a little more can’t hurt you too much, but the blonde doesn’t seem to agree. He’s on you in three wide strides, taking you by the jumper’s pocket and firmly pulling you from the hull. When you’ve been freed, he clutches your elbow and half bends, just enough to grab a handful of snow and dump it into your bare hand. At first, you feel nothing but fine grit, but as he quickly brushes away the snow and melted bits to replace it with another, the buzzing in your skin pauses. The following chill drives into your senses like a knife. You curl on to your toes reflexively with a whine, but his grip holds you in place. Your other hand clamps down on something as your whole body clenches, curling in towards him reflexively. Maker, you might actually freeze to death; the panic that was keeping you warm was faded, draining through your now sopping wet hand.
Nanami isn’t fazed by your antics. He stays focused on cleaning your hand with handful after handful until he’s satisfied. With every huff and grumble, a smoke of his breath whisps away, brushing by your nose. It’s how you realize you’re so close to him, practically breast to breast.
“You’re worse than Haibara, I swear,” he chides and his warm breath tickles your cheek again. His teeth close on the leather of his free hand and tug, popping it off of his hand. Rather awkwardly, he jams it on to your hand, none of the fingers finding their holes, “Touching literal poison-- do you have a death wish?”
You're frozen in place and you're not sure you can completely blame the weather.
 “A little,” you manage.
He shoots you a glare. Frost litters his eyelashes.
“Come on,”  he tugs, “We're going."
"The ship-” The hull is open and collecting snow, the metal already cold enough for ice to stick.
"-isn’t going to get fixed today." he finishes, “Standing out here isn’t going to fix that.”
“I--” Objections don’t come to mind. The weather must be eating your brain cells too.
“Fine,” you relent, “We’ll call inside.”
“Good.” Nanami nods, “Now Iet go.”
It takes you a second to process. What?”
Nanami gestures down. “Let go of my coat.”
You realize your hand didn’t clutch the air, but him. Your joints protest as you force your fingers open, releasing the front of his coat, but Nanami doesn't immediately pull away. His gloved hand finds yours, smoothing the knuckles in an overly tender act.
"Your skin is already chapped," he notes under his breath. He frees his other glove and slips in onto you, then goes for the zipper of his coat. Before you can protest, he's gathering the hide and fur in his hands.
“I couldn’t possibly-”
“I am the Galactic Senator of this planet,” Nanami says firmly, but with no bite. He throws the jacket over your shoulders. It's oversized and long on him; on you, it trails the ground.  “And I insist that you acquiesce."
Without protection, the weather is getting to him, stripping his cheeks pink. The fog of his breath sticks to his glasses, crystalline patterns forming across their plane. The cold has reclaimed its beauty once again.
“I don't know what acquiesce means," you say, "But okay, Senator."
Fine lines crinkle at the corners of his eyes. “I told you to call me Nanami.”
“Yes, Nanami.”
He slides the zipper of the coat up. "Let's go, Miss Nine."

my personal favorite highlights from the official top gun: maverick script:
meek engineer's name is simon and is dating someone at the pentagon which is how they found out about the drone ranger coming to shut the darkstar project down
"That's...blue sky up there, Mav." "Yeah, but dark blue. Ominous."
mav also called darkstar 'angel' and 'girl' which i'm glad they cut otherwise i would have died in the theater then and there
"Hondo stares at his monitor. He knows his friend well." 🥺🥺🥺
"y'all built one hell of a plane" oh mav ❤️
"For anyone unfamiliar, it’s obvious there is story here - Glory and ghosts." g o d
Tumblr media
admiral's aide do you MIND he's having a MOMENT
warlock is described as "an affable, brilliant two-star" hell yeah
i personally think it's hilarious that cyclone was apparently top of his class in '88 but in the script he's in his forties?? even if he's 49 the film takes place in 2019?? that would make him 18 in 1988?? mr mcquarrie sir the math ain't mathing
"Maverick has had about enough of this shit" if that doesn't just sum up both movies
as a macheresin shipper the fact that hangman and coyote were planned as besties from the get-go,,,,,,,my heart is Full
"sorry i couldn't be there" oh ice 🥺🥺🥺
mcq's love for casablanca continues to shine through
penny's dad is alive and retired and still hates mav
"Keepin’ it tight, I see, Phoenix" hangman is such an ASSHOLE i HATE him (affectionate)
bob's description is "human wallpaper" i am DYING
"shit, that's fritz" i DEMAND to know why fritz's arrival elicited that reaction from fanboy!! show me the fritz&b-team daggers cut!!
"Maverick sees a ghost. From this angle, the kid is a dead ringer for Goose, just as gawky and gangly, loving life." and what if i Bawled
MAVERICK REQUESTED HONDO SPECIFICALLY
HONDO WAS GONNA MEET UP WITH A LADY IN RENO WHO IS 'AN ACROBAT' AND 'VERY FLEXIBLE'
"I need at least one person on my side here" MAV
"I'll stand somewhere else" HONDO
mav originally ran the entire class through the contents of the F-18 NATOPS 👀👀👀
in the original script rooster gave hangman his callsign...personally gonna stick with the headcanon that phoenix (if it had to be one of the daggers) was the one who gave it to him, but Very Interesting nonetheless.
rooster calls phoenix 'fee' brb peppering this into All my fics
Tumblr media
PHOENIX IS THE MAV OF THE MOVIE CONFIRMED
Tumblr media
I DEMAND TO KNOW IF THERE IS FOOTAGE OF GLEN POWELL SINGING 'HOT FOR TEACHER'
genuinely cannot believe mcq wrote this. he is on galaxy tier levels of thinking i could never even hope to reach.
rooster being protective of phoenix you know that's right
theo the yellow lab was originally named "t" in the script,,,,,,,,t for tony scott,,,,,,,,,
"You're a warrior, Ice. A fighter." bury me ALIVE
"(Note: Important we include PILOT POV establishing gray-out in the lead up to G-LOCK)" this script is tighter than a snare drum
"Kinda like your ass depended on it" GET HIS ASS MAV
phoenix and bob refuse to even IMPLY that mav was in any way at fault for them having to eject,,,,,,,,they are Ride Or Die
as a warlock/hondo shipper i am also Delighted they actually got some screentime together
MAV WAS SUPPOSED TO GIVE THE EULOGY AT ICE'S FUNERAL 😭😭😭😭😭
mav and hangman were apparently supposed to talk after mav chose hangman as his wingman but i'm glad that scene got cut because a) showing vs telling and b) hangman is Not emotionally aware or mature enough to say what he says here out loud and you can't convince me otherwise
"Hondo stares at him. Maverick stares back. Something unspoken passes between the two men." and mavhondo shippers everywhere rejoiced
"HONDO squeezes his fist tightly, feeling something crack. He opens his hand to see the crystal of his stopwatch is crushed, the second hand frozen. An omen." HEY MCQ WHAT THE FUCK
"CLOSE ON Hondo, reflecting on his last moment with Mav." see above
"How we gonna get this bag’a ass in the air?" "Just hang on. Cause this bag‘a ass is about to go ballistic."
"Rough Rider, this is, uh...Ghost Rider" *cries in callbacks*
"The minute Hangman touches down, pull the trip wires and have the barricade stanchions ready." (silence) "HE DOESN'T HAVE A GODDAMN TAILHOOK." (OH SHIT FUCK OKAY RUNNING NOW)
lowkey like the parallel between cyclone nodding at mav and hangman and rooster shaking hands. they still don't like each other, but they respect each other a little more now. as the script says, that's enough.
"Among the pictures is one of Goose and Maverick in the bloom of their youth - their whole lives ahead of them." 😭😭😭😭😭
WE WERE ROBBED OF PHOENIX JOINING ROOSTER AND PENNY AND AMELIA AND MAV AT THE HANGAR I REPEAT WE WERE R O B B E D
"TIME CUT as Phoenix holds two model planes, demonstrating air to-air combat to a very interested Amelia." ooooh amelia has a cruuuuuush
"Rooster turns, looks at the make-shift family taking shape in this makeshift home…And he smiles." 😭😭😭😭😭

It was time for Gordon's check- up with Mr. Ramsfield. Sir and Lady Hatt walked up to the Ramsfield's office, Lady Hatt pushing Gordon's pram.
"Are you excited for your visit with Mr. Ramsfield today Gordon"? Sir Topham Hatt asked.
"Mhm." Baby Gordon simply replied.
"Is everything okay Gordon? You haven't been your usual happy self lately." Lady Hatt said.
"Boiwer ache." Baby Gordon replied.
"Poor dear, don't worry once we're done with Mr. Ramsfield, we'll head over the steam works and Victor can make you feel all better, okay"? Lady Hatt asked.
"Otay". Baby Gordon said.
Unbeknownst to everyone except Gordon, the baby engine had been hiding that he had regained his big engine memories quite some time ago. However, Gordon was loving his life as a baby engine and had planned on purposefully failing the big test to remain as a baby engine, but the weight of guilt had been getting to Gordon.
The Hatt family entered Mr. Ramsfield's office.
"Hello Sir and Lady Hatt and hey there little guy! How is everyone doing"? Mr. Ramsfield asked.
"We're doing fine thank you, but poor Gordon here has been having some nasty boiler ache lately." Sir Topham Hatt responded.
"I'm sorry you're going through that Gordon. I'll try to get through our meet up as fast as possible so that your mommy and daddy can focus on making you feel better, okay"? Mr. Ramsfield asked.
"Otay, mista Wamsfeeld." Baby Gordon agreed.
With that, Mr. Ramsfield began his examination. He first started by asking Baby Gordon some simple questions like asking him how he was doing, did anything exciting happened during the week, and reciting the alphabet and numbers. Finally, Mr. Ramsfield had Sir Topham Hatt place Baby Gordon down on the baby engine track he set out for some play time. On the track were some toys: stuffed animals, soft blocks, toy freight, and toy passenger cars.
Gordon stood at the switches looking at the two trains. The weight of guilt crushing him as Lady Hatt asked Gordon what he would like to play with.
A bad memory flashed in Gordon's mind, one where his mentor had him locked in a dark shed for weeks after he saw Gordon returning to the sheds singing happily while hauling a heavy goods train and giving a friendly whistle to passengers waiting on the platform.
"Please professor let me out, it's too dark and scary! I'm sorry I took a goods train, I just wanted to be useful"! A young green Gordon cried.
Young Gordon couldn't see a thing in the shed, he feared a monster would gobble him up or worse, he'd be forgotten in there forever. By the time his professor let him out, Gordon had lost count of how long he'd been locked up.
Before him stood his mentor, the engine was only a bit smaller than Gordon, but the way he had Gordon cowering in the corner, one would've mistaken the professor for being a Union Pacific Big Boy. The professor looked at the young express engine in disgust.
"Get out." He spoke.
"W..what"? Gordon stuttered.
"You've been bought by another railway, meaning you don't belong here anymore. Get out." The professor said bluntly.
Without another word Gordon rushed out of the sheds as soon as his crew got him up to steam.
As Gordon made his way to the big station, he passed by the smaller engines who immediately fled to hide once they saw the young big engine approaching. Gordon wheeshed sadly as he watched the small station pilot cower behind a short train of coal cars, but it wasn't just Gordon they were hiding from. From the other side of the tracks a group of three young big engines steamed up, pushing any small engine who hadn't been fast enough to move out of the bigger engines way. Gordon hoped they wouldn't notice him as he pulled into the station.
"Well, well, well, what do we have here"? Came one of the big engines.
"Looks like they finally let the big crybaby out, what a shame, we were enjoying the peace and quiet away from your obsessive sobbing." Said another.
"Wah, waaah! I'm Gordon and I don't have a single friend! Wah"! The third taunted.
"Not even those silly little engines want to be friends with a weirdo like me"! Mocked the second.
"PATHETIC"! The big engines laughed.
Gordon fought the urge to cry as he struggled to speak.
"I...I got sold to...to another railway..." Gordon struggled to speak.
"Yes, to a railway of failures."One said.
"I heard their controller fell for a silly trick and bought some sort of sick chimera of an engine." Third said.
"A rather perfect fit for a big baby like yourself." The first said smuggly as they pierced deeply into Gordon's soul.
By now a few tears had managed to escape Gordon's eyes as the bit smaller big engines passed him.
When he managed to calm down, his builders arrived to instruct the big engine to head to London, where he would meet his new controller at King's Cross. Gordon just hoped he could make some friends on this railway and maybe, just maybe, he could have a family with siblings and a mother and father like he always wanted.
Back in the present, Baby Gordon could no longer hold in his emotions and began to whail.
"ME WIED!!!!!!!!! ME WEMEMBA BEIN BIG"!!!!!!!!!!! Baby Gordon admited.
The adults in the room were shocked as Gordon continued to cry.
"Me sowwy! Me no wanna be big! Too scawy! Too many inny ouchies"! Gordon cried.
The baby engine feared and awaited the out lash from a very crossed Sir Topham Hatt. Instead, Mr. Ramsfield spoke.
"I understand." Mr. Ramsfield told Gordon and the still processing Hatt's.
The watery eyed engine looked up towards the younger man as he knelt down to the best of his abilities to be on Gordon's level.
"Engine phycology is just now starting to be seen as a serious issue and yet there have been many, many engines ever since "The Rocket's" era that are in need of help. I don't know what happened in your past Gordon and I can't imagine how scared you must have felt telling us you remember being big, but know that the place where you are right now is a safe area for you to be you and to talk about anything you need to talk about." Mr. Ramsfield gently spoke to the little engine.
Gordon felt the soft rubs on his boiler from Sir and Lady Hatt.
"Gordon, does being a baby engine make you truly happy"? Sir Topham Hatt asked.
"Yes." Gordon responded.
"Then I don't want you to change alright? If being a baby engine makes you the best version of you then you are a really useful engine." Sir Topham Hatt told the baby engine.
"Dada"! Baby Gordon cried happily as Hatt's held their little blue baby engine close.

Kylo Ren x F!Reader
Word count: 4k
Warning(s):None(Hopefully)
summary:As a Captain in the First Order, Y/N has never been one to bring attention to herself unless it was commanding her squadron. What happens when a personal hobby make's her prey to one of the most feared men in the universe?
A/n: There will be a Masterlist so you can keep track of the chapter's and the posting of these chapters won't be consistent I apologize. I started college recently and am most occupied with that. There will be a tag list so lmk if you want to be added.

"So? What did he say" Y/n asked the man who stood before her.
"It's been approved, but you only have an hour each day for one week. Then you are to return to your regular duties after that period is over," The man spoke calmly as he watched Y/n's eyes light up in excitement; Y/n pumped her fist in the air victoriously.
"Yes! Thank you, Father- I...I mean, Sir." She quickly corrected herself, but the man's face was just as happy as hers had been moments before.
"Little Sunflower, You don't need to call me Sir. You know that." He gently scolded,
"Mr. Sienor, You're needed for a Field test." A woman entered the room; she was his secretary, whom Y/n knew as Joyce.
"Yes, Thank you. Let them know I'm on my way." He dismissed Joyce and turned back to Y/n. "Now. You should also go; you start the inspection today and need to be in the hangar in twenty minutes."
"Okay. Be safe, Dad. And Tell mom I said hello." Raith nodded and left the room, Y/n soon leaving after him.
The walk to the hangar typically took thirty minutes, but Y/n had a deadline, and she didn't want to be late. Upon arriving, Y/n was introduced to three engineers; one was a tall blonde man whose name she'd already forgotten, and another was a more petite brunette woman with thick-framed glasses whose name had also slipped her mind. She was briefed on the rules and regulations about what she would do. She was mostly there for personal reasons, but because she knew the ship like the back of her hand from the blueprints her father allowed her, the engineers asked her to do complete inspections on them and tell them if they'd missed anything in their checks and post-fight reports. It was a win-win situation. They got a temporary engineer, and she got to look over her favorite TIE model. The TIE/vn space superiority fighter, Or as most would call it. The TIE Silencer.
As Y/n stood with her hands on her hips in Infront of the brilliant ship, she observed every detail from the ground. She noticed some dents and scrapes on the hull.
"You must be the pilot they were speaking about." The low distorted voice seemed to startle the woman, who quickly turned around to address him; him...Kylo Ren, one of the most feared men in the galaxy.
"uh. Yes. Sir, Capitan Y/n Sienor of the Special Forces." Spoke quickly and formally.
"Impulse." Her call sign rolled through the voice modulator like an animalistic growl.
"...You've heard of me then, Sir." A simple nod was the only response she received; assuming he was done talking, she turned back to the ship.
A moment passed, and the distorted voice returned beside her. "Tell me everything you know about this ship, Capitan."
Y/n froze; she hadn't expected him to ask her such a question but obediently replied,
"Well, Sir. She's a prototype TIE/vn space superiority fighter with a twin-ion engine. Her maximum acceleration is four-thousand-five-hundred G's, Maximum atmospheric speed is one-thousand-eight-hundred and fifty kph. She's equipped with the torplex fight computer, two sensor arrays, four targeting sensors, and of course, life support. She was specifically designed for the use of the most elite in the first order. Her manufacturer is Sienar-jaemus Fleet Systems. She's fifty-seven feet long, twenty-five feet wide, and twelve feet tall. My favorite thing about her is how quiet she is." Once again, silence filled the tense air, and the looming figure caused Y/n to feel more anxious than she'd like to admit.
"Impressive. But if you know it so well. Why do you need to study it?"He asked, turning his head towards her.
"Selfishly. Personal reason, Sir. I was able to test fly one of the earlier models of this, and I was immediately enamored by it. But I wasn't able to study it like I had other models in the past, and when I heard that this one was here on the starkiller base, I asked my father to do me a favor. I'm not entirely sure who flies this beauty, but they're obviously of high rank and an exceptional pilot. She's not an easy one to fly." She turned her head towards him,
"I know. It's mine." The shock on Y/n's face could have been comical without the slight tinge of fear she felt.
"Oh. Wow, Must be an honor then" Her voice was dangerously close to wavering.
"I approved your inspection under certain circumstances; I trust the engineers have briefed you on it." A nod from Y/n as she stood still like a statue. "You are to report your findings to the chief engineer after every shift. Be sure to make your reports detailed." Ending on that, Kylo Ren turned and left the hangar, leaving Y/n alone with her startled thoughts. 'Had he come here just to Interrogate me?'
The petite brunette woman made her way over to Y/n; surprise was written all over her features.
"Are you alright?" She asked, concern dripping off her words.
"Yes. I'm completely fine. I should start my inspection. I appreciate your concern, but it is unnecessary." Y/n spoke flatly as she began to climb into the cockpit of the TIE, surprised by how well-kept the ship was; apart from a few minor scratches, it was in peak condition.
After inspecting the cockpit, she looked at the wings. The design of this TIE was aggressive and gave off a sense of power. The perfect ship for Kylo Ren, she thought to herself.
After that, the blonde engineer came over to let her know her hour was up. She thanked him and wrote a report; she left the hangar when she finished.
"Ah, look. Princess is back." A man with tanned skin and messy black hair spoke from his seat in the special forces lounge.
"Shut it, Cal. Where's the boss?" Y/n said sharply, ignoring the teasing from her squadron mates. "In his office like always." The man, Cal, replied. Y/n gave him a nod and then walked to the big red door in the back of the lounge. She opened the door, and as it slid up, she saw a figure clad In red armor.
"Major. Do you have a moment?" Her voice was calm, but there was a tinge of anxiety.
"Of course, Come in." She did; the Major asked her to sit across from his desk. "What seems to be the matter?" He asked as he sat in his chair. Y/n fiddled with the hem of her captain's uniform,
"I assume you're already aware of my temporary assignment. If I knew it would be approved, I would have asked your permission, Sir. I apologize for not doing so." A chuckle from the man before washed away the fear of punishment.
"If this assignment is to help the First Order succeed, then you have no reason to apologize. You're an expert when It comes to The TIE Starfighters. You have helped improve the ships tenfold. If you can do that here under my authority, then who am I to stop you." He spoke as if it was the simplest thing in the world.
"Of course, Thank you, Sir." She stood as he dismissed her.
The three Pilots who Y/n was closest to were all standing by the door when she exited.
"You know these rooms are sound proof right?" the group shrugged; a taller woman in a tightfitting First Order undershirt and a pair of mechanics pants laid her hand on Y/n's shoulder.
"So...You're Inspecting Kylo Ren's ship? What's it like? Is it falling apart on the inside?" She joked,
"Miya! You Knew whose ship it was!?" Y/n asked, surprised.
"Uh. Yeah, Y/n. He's currently the only high-ranking officer who has a TIE Silencer." As they spoke, the door that Y/n was standing in front of opened, and the man in red spoke up,
"What are you all doing standing around? Don't you have work to do?" He asked, his voice stern but softened when he spoke to Y/n. "Don't you have a meeting with Phasma soon?" Y/n was startled by the realization and looked at her watch.
"Oh shoot. You're right. Okay, gotta go. Thank you for the reminder, Sir." she nodded to everyone and left the lounge room.
On her way to the conference room, she stopped by her quarters to grab her First Order mandatory captain's cap. She'd prefer not to get scolded by Hux for Improper military etiquette again. As she arrived at the conference room, she recognized the shiny platinum build
"Capitan Phasma," Y/n greeted formally. Phasma responded with a tort nod. Y/n liked to believe that she and Phasma were on good terms, Captains don't usually get along, but from the few conversations she's had with her, she knows Phasma, at the most, tolerates her.
"Are we early?" Y/n spoke up, her voice barely above a whisper, and Phasma looked down at her, nodding her head.
"There is one more person we're waiting for, H-"
"Hux...Fantastic." Y/n said dryly, Y/n had never been the military type, but she erased All expression from her face and stood at attention when she heard the annoyingly noticeable footsteps of General Armitage Hux.
"Capitans." He said with the same disdain he always used for anyone below him.
"General." The women said in sync.
Hux entered the conference room, and the two women followed after. The meeting started with the standard formalities and questions about Phasma's troopers and Y/n's new squadron, which she was teaching.
"Capitan Sienor, One more thing has been added to your new assignment. Kylo Ren has requested that he spectate the inspections on his ship. He will be joining you every hour for the next week." Shock snuck up onto Y/n's face, but it left as soon as it came.
"Yes, Sir." She tightened her fists that were sitting in her lap. Phasma and Hux spoke some more, and the time seemed to fly by. When the meeting was over, they followed the same routine as when they came in: Hux, Phasma, and Y/n.
It felt like there was a heavy weight now placed on Y/n's shoulders as she walked back to her quarters; she hadn't noticed the heavy footsteps behind her, and the daze she was in only seemed to snap away once she realized someone had placed their hand on her shoulder when she turned around she stared at the platinum giant with a forced smile.
"How can I help you, Capitan?"
"I need to speak with you. Do you have a moment?"
This behavior from Phasma would be very out of character to anyone who wasn't Y/n. They had lengthy conversations about work almost every two weeks if something was irritating them and they needed to let off some steam.
"Oh, Yeah. Of course. Come in," Y/n spoke as she walked to her door and opened it. Y/n offered Phasma a seat as she grabbed herself a glass of water.
"So, To what do I owe this visit?" She asked as she sat across from Phasma.
"I know how you feel about Kylo Ren. I could sense your unease earlier; I want you to be extra cautious. You're a good leader; losing you would be a shame because of him and his temper tantrums." Phasma spoke easily as if she were speaking to one of her troopers. Had she not realized she had just said one of the kindest things Y/n had ever heard from anyone since she joined the first order?
Their conversation lasted about ten minutes before Phasma left; when the door closed, Y/n sighed. It was close to dinner time, and she took a quick shower before heading to the cafeteria.
"Y/n!" A voice called out to her as she entered the large room
"Callisto." she responded dryly, shrugging off the arm that was placed around her shoulders.
"Aw, come on. Don't be like that. Is this about me teasing you earlier? Because if it was, I hope you know I wasn't trying to hurt you. I'm sorry if I did-" He was cut off by Y/n placing her pointer finger against his lips, shutting him up
" You talk too much. And no, it has nothing to do with your teasing. I got used to that years ago." removing her hand from his face, she turned away and went to grab food. Hopefully, she tried to escape him, but he followed her like a lost pup.
"What is it then? You know you can talk to me." He assured.
Callisto was a nice-ish guy, but he could be very annoying if he wanted to, so it was best to give him what he wanted.
"My new assignment isn't going to be as fun as I originally thought," Y/n sighed as she filled her plate and made her way to a seat, Cal mirroring her and sitting across from her.
"Originally thought what?" The gentle voice of Miya graced the small group's ears as she sat down next to Y/n.
"My assignment." Y/n tried her best to avoid this conversation, but her friends were persistent.
"Yeah? What about it?" Miya asked.
"Kylo Ren is spectating her investigations." A deep voice and strong figure appeared next to Cal.
"Shit! Ian. Where do you even come from!?" Cal cursed, startled by their soft-spoken friend.
"Of course, you'd know Killian." Miya rolled her eyes,
Killian knew a lot of dirt on a lot of people. Let's just say if you have a secret...He knows it.
"Teachers Pet." Y/n spat annoyedly,
"Princess." Killian replied in the same tone.
"Wait- So, really? Kylo Ren is spectating your investigations? Why?" Cal asked, stuffing his face with food.
"I don't know...Maybe he's worried I'll break something?" Y/n's tone was defeated, she did the best she could to stay as far away as possible from Kylo Ren, and now she has to spend an hour a day with him for the next week.
"I heard some of the techs say he looked you up," Killian spoke up
"Looked me up?"
"Yeah, You know. Like where you came from, How long you've been with the First Order, and your skill set."
The look Y/n had given Killian was one full of disbelief.
"You're kidding me. Why the Hell would he need to know all that about her?" Miya asks, after being silent for the most part of the conversation.
"How should I know? I don't know everything, Miya."
"Well, you sure damn well act like it." The two bickered like an old married couple sometimes.
"Guys. Knock it off. Let's try not to draw attention to ourselves, please." Y/n spoke up as she slid her plate in front of her before standing from her seat.
"Where are you going?" Cal asked, gently grabbing her wrist; she looked down and sighed.
"I gotta report to the Chief Engineer before the end of my shift."
"Okay, Just take it easy," he said as he squeezed her wrist before letting her go.
"She's gonna be alright, right?" Y/n heard Cal ask the group; she assumed that both Miya and Killian just shrugged since neither responded.
Taking a deep breath, Y/n knocked on the door to the Chief Engineers' Office, The door opened, and a small, frail-looking older woman stood in the doorway.
"You must be Capitan Sienar. I'm Chief Engineer Kesta; Kylo Ren was just telling me the details of your temporary assignment-" The woman was still talking, but Y/n had zoned her out as she stared at the large frame of Kylo Ren; he stared out the transparasteel window that looked over the hangar. How had I not realized his presence before? Why was he here? He never said he'd be here, too; what in the world is happening?- Her panicked thoughts were cut short when Kesta waved her hand in front of her face.
"Hello? Captain? Are you listening?"
"Hm..? Oh, Yes, sorry. Long day" Y/n said with an apologetic smile.
"Yes...I understand; why don't you come in and give me your report so you can clock out as soon as possible." The older woman held out her arm as she welcomed Y/n into the room. "You can take a seat if you'd like," She offered, but Y/n shook her head, doing her best to ignore the gaze she could feel drilling into the back of her skull.
"I'd prefer to stand." She said softly; the woman nodded, and Y/n began her report.
Halfway through, she was interrupted by the voice that always sent a shiver down her spine.
"Why are you so curious about this TIE model?" The voice asked; it was closer than she thought it'd be, and in her surprise, she spun around quickly, only to be met with Kylo Ren mere inches away. If she wasn't scared before, she definitely was now.
She swallowed harshly before she answered,
"L-Like I said before, Sir. I was only able to test fly one, and years before, when I worked closely with my father; he used to let me study the new Model TIE. This is currently the only Model I haven't studied." She kept her explanation as short as possible.
"Your Father had to pull a lot of strings to get you this opportunity. What make's you think you deserve it?" He asked; Y/n was practically screaming to leave. This interrogation was becoming a bit much for her liking.
"Because I'm a good engineer, Sir. And I'm also a Pilot. If I can possibly help the first order in making more advanced starfighters in the future, I'd like to do my part." a false sense of confidence flowed through her as she spoke, hoping to mask any anxiety that was trying to seep through her voice.
"Tomorrow, you will show me how to reprogram the flight computer."
"Yes, Sir- Wait...Is something wrong with it? The fight controls were specifically made for you, I assume. Did they mess something up?" Y/n's fear and anxiety were forgotten when her brain started to work out possible scenarios,
"No. I want to see if you can take something apart and put it back together again perfectly as your reputation precedes you." Y/n gawked at him in disbelief. He wanted her to completely erase his specific fight controls and reprogram them to be exactly how it was before. Was he crazy!? She had no idea what his specifications were or how he preferred the distance of the controls. This was a big task with little to no information; He was setting her up to fail.
"With all due respect, Sir. I wouldn't be able to complete that task successfully in an hour."
A low hum came from the man in front of her. "And why's that?"
Was he stupid? He couldn't be; he was doing this on purpose. He's testing me. She thought. "Because Sir. I have no prior experience with your specific flight controls. I would need at least two hours or maybe even three to become familiar with them, let alone memorize them enough to reprogram them."
"I see." a tense silence filled the air, Kylo turned away from her and walked back to the window. Y/n looked over her shoulder to see that Kesta was no longer in sight; she must have booked it out of there. Yeah, me too. She admitted, wishing she could do the same.
"I'll give you the next three days to study my fight controls; on the fifth day, you will reprogram it." He paused as he turned back towards her. "The last two days, you will be free to study the ship as you please without my spectating. But. Only if you reprogram the controls to their original state or there will be consequences. Do you understand?" His voice roared deeply in that dull distorted tone it always had. But somehow, this time was different. It sparked something warm and unfamiliar deep in the pit of her stomach. Was it terror?
Holy Shit. He's actually crazy.
There were a million different possibilities; a lot of programming and engineering goes into customizing flight controls. In the past, all...Or most TIE Starfighters were programmed the same way, so you only really needed to learn how to fly one to fly any version. But the TIE Silencer was customized to its test pilots' specific comfortability with the controls. Y/n's was even programmed when she test flown it. And she's only got three hours in three days.
She inhaled sharply, anxiety striking her like a sword. She dug her nails into her palms as she shut her eyes quickly. This might not seem like much to most people, but to Y/n, it was one of the worst things that could happen in her career. Was studying this dang ship that important? Could she back out now?
"Capitan." the low distorted voice echoed in the room, and Y/n looked up at him. Her eyes were glossed over, and her shoulders were tense. She knew the consequences of what would happen if she somehow failed this assignment; it had all been too good to be true.
"Y-yes, Sir. I understand." Her fists were shaking as she mustered the strength to keep herself calm.
"Good. You are dismissed." Once those words left him, y/n had turned around and went as calmly as possible before rushing back to her room.
Y/n's room was connected to the S.F.'s Lounge, so when she walked in, Miya, Cal, and Killian had all been relaxing from the end of their shifts. Cal and Maya were playing a card game, and Ian was going over field reports on the couch.
"Hey, She's back," Cal said when he noticed the door open, his tone cheerful.
"Oh good, I was getting worried," Miya spoke, standing up to walk over to Y/n.
"No, you weren't," Killian mumbled under his breath; as Miya got closer, Y/n took a step back.
"Hey, Are you alright? Did something happen?" Concern laced her voice which caught the attention of the men.
"N-No. I'm fine, Miya. Just tired. I'd really like to head to bed." she tried stepping around her, but Cal stepped in front of her blocking her path.
"You're not fine. You look like someone just told you your pet died or something." Y/n shook her head at his response.
"It's about Kylo Ren. No one makes her anxious like he does." Killian spoke up from his spot on the couch.
"Come on, Talk to us like you always do. You always have something to say." Cal tried to encourage her, but she shook her head. She was close to crying when he tilted his head to look into her eyes. That had never happened before; she's always been so strong. This threw him off, guard.
"Did he hurt you?" Cal asked quickly. Miya looked at him like his head had grown ten sizes.
"Why'd you ask that, Cal?" She asked. Y/n bit her lip as she looked at Cal, begging him with her eyes not to say anything, but he didn't get it.
"She looks like she's about to cry..." he said softly, looking up at Miya.
"Y/n/n, What happened? I swear if he put his hands on you-" The taller woman threatened
"No. Guys. It's fine. This assignment just turns out to be my guillotine, and Kylo Ren is my executioner." She spoke softly; the small group looked at her, both confused and concerned.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Ian asked. Y/n sighed and walked over to the couch, plopping down on it and allowing it to take away her stress.
"Kylo Ren has decided to test my intelligence on TIE Fighters."
"Okay?" Miya asked as she pulled a chair from a nearby table, and Cal leaned against the wall.
"You know how TIE Silencers were all programmed to their specific Pilots?" The group nodded, allowing her to continue.
"Well. He wants me to memorize his specific flight controls, erase them, and reprogram them perfectly to the last detail. I only have three days, which- before you ask, yes. That's technically only three hours. The day after, I will have to reprogram it. If I do it correctly, he will allow me to study the TIE without his spectating for the last two days." Y/n heaved a heavy sigh, relaxing on the couch.
"What are you so worried about?" Ian asked, turning his head to look at her
"Yeah, I mean, come on, Y/n. You're probably the only person, minus your father, who knows the most about TIE Fighters. This should be a breeze for you." Cal spoke, pushing himself off the wall and sitting on the floor in front of her.
"I had maybe an hour or less to become familiar with my own specified flight controls, which was one of the most difficult things I've done to date. He expects me to memorize his and then Perfectly replicate it!?" She sat up, fear replaced with irritation and anger. "Do you know what could-Will happen if I manage to get ONE thing wrong!? I'd be killed for sure, Or worse. Fired." She threw her arms up in the air, then crossed them over her chest. "He's absolutely horrible." She hissed out and stood up. "I'm going to bed."
No one dared to stop her; they knew the weight on her shoulders was heavy; they just wished she wouldn't carry it all on her own.
Stepping into her room, she sighed for the umpteenth time. She walked over to her bathroom mirror. She barely recognized herself; the stress in her eyes was deep, and her shoulders were slumped defeatedly. All this from one day? Ignoring it, she stripped and stepped into the shower, hoping to wash it away.
As the hot water relaxed her muscles, she recalled how this day had started.
"Y/n, I'm not sure this is a good idea. I know you've wanted to study this ship, but is it really appropriate to do it on a First Order base?" Her father asked,
"I'm sure it'd be fine; it's not like I'm going to steal it or mess with the controls." She spoke, trying her best to persuade her father.
"Alright. I'll see what I can do. BUT. These people are our best customers. If they say yes, you must obey any rules they may set. You'll be representing not only yourself but also me and my company. Do you understand?" His voice faded out; she could no longer remember the rest of the conversation.
Too much happened today, she thought as she leaned back against the shower wall.
"Did it count if the rules meant life or death?" She asked herself. After the shower, she changed and lay down on her bed.
She prayed to anyone who was listening that tomorrow would never come.

Sweetapple | Dear Mr Tracy | Along the way - Part 1 | Part 2
Here we are after one hell of a long wait, the next part of the third Sweetapple fic :D A good percentage of this was written back in April, but today I have managed to wrangle it to do what I needed it to do.
Many, many thanks to @onereyofstarlight for the readthrough and cheerleading :D And for Thunderfam cheering me on. Honestly, you guys are amazing to me and I cherish all the support you give me ::hugs the lots of you::
I hope you enjoy this bit :D

Māhia was seconds away via Thunderbird One. The blur of mach ‘I need to get there now’, cleared as Scott braked mid-air above the facility.
Experienced eyes scanned the grounds and his heart sank as the clear signs of a building collapse in the older part of the property became clear.
“Thunderbird Five, visual confirmation on scans. Several of the lab buildings have collapsed.” As he lowered One down to land, he shoved her landing gear down in frustration. Those buildings had been reinforced for exactly this reason. Why had they collapsed?
But that was a question for later as he did mental calculations on who might own those five life signs Five’s scanners were reporting.
They taunted him on his display as One blew up dust and settled softly to the ground.
“Five, I need employee locations and I need them now.”
It was Eos who answered. “Yes, commander, compiling them and sending them to your mobile device.”
His thank you was little more than a whisper as he stepped out onto Tracy Industries land as an emergency responder.
Tia hurried across the grounds towards him, Fireman Fred, not far behind.
“Sir, we have six staff missing.”
Damn.
He nodded and pulled up the data Eos had sent him.
It correlated.
Alexander Sweetapple was at the top of the list, followed by Erica Stoltz, Bruce Palmer, Gus Kinnear, Emily Anderson and Violet Drummer.
As he moved to assess the situation, he shut those names in the back of his mind and jammed his hope and despair into a box of professionalism.
Tia’s breath came in a rush. “The engineering team have set up scanners and have been directing the rest of the staff to move debris, but…” Her voice trailed off as her amber eyes stared up at him.
A nod and he put more confidence into his stride. Fireman Fred started spouting stressor numbers and building structures…
Just another rescue, use the tools, save lives and console later.

Thunderbird Two swooped in low over Gisborne and Virgil groaned. A series of apartments on the main street appeared to be compromised with partial to full collapse. He hated apartment buildings.
They were always the most heartbreaking.
And they weren’t alone, it was obvious even from this height that there were several sites that would need their attention. With confirmation from John on the priority list, Virgil lowered Two as delicately as he could down into a main intersection, as close as safely possible to the first site.
Automatically speeding through post-flight, Virgil set up the job in his mind. “Gordon and Alan, you’re on pick-up-stick duty. Clear as much debris as possible. Alan, you have Two if needed. I’ll be in the exosuit.” He threw up a live scan of the collapsed group of buildings, absently noting the age of the structures and the possible reason for initial failure. He pointed at the first lifesign. “We’ll start here, follow through to here and pick them off one by one. Any information that requires a change in these priorities, I need to know.” The sixty-four lifesigns flickered at him like heartbeats.
“FAB.” And the professionals who were his brothers were moving.
He climbed out of his pilot’s seat and followed.
-o-o-o-
Scott was missing both his heavy lifting brother and his ‘bird.
Thunderbird One was good for many things, but in this case, Two was better.
Not that he’d ever admit it out loud.
The fortunate thing was that with so many Tracy Industries employees on hand, most of the equipment required to dig a person out of this mess was available.
Mostly.
He missed his brother’s support.
And their ease of working together.
But then, if Alex wasn’t one of these lifesigns, there was no way Scott wanted his brother here.
Virgil had formed an attachment to the likeable engineer. There was no other explanation for his repeated visits to Māhia. At least once a week found him down here knocking heads with Alex. He claimed it was Siliwrap development and Scott had no doubt that was part of it, a very small part. He had seen his brother on a design binge many a time in the past and this wasn’t it.
What it was, was hopeful and although Virgil had yet to declare any intentions of any kind, Scott couldn’t help but smile each time Virgil babbled to him about Alex.
Because he did. Scott knew more about the smart, dark-eyed, pale-haired engineer than he ever thought he would. But then considering his brother’s interest, he made it his business to know as much as possible about Alex. Both Kayo and John had done a thorough security risk assessment on the man and everything had come up green…repeatedly.
This just left Scott happy for his brother.
And nodding and smiling each time one of their late-night discussions turned to the topic of Alex.
Again.
He doubted his brother was even aware of it…and that made Scott smile even more.
But so far nothing had come of it beyond friendship and Scott wasn’t going to push other than give his hardworking little brother a little extra time with his friend when he could.
All Scott had to do today was find that friend.
“Sir! We found him!” Scott startled and despite himself, abandoned the area he had been clearing and ran over to where Fred and his crew were lifting out a prone body.
For just a moment, Scott’s heart lifted, only to be dashed by dark hair and a beard, followed by shame to even be thinking that way. Gus Kinnear was the lucky soul that beat the odds down to one in four that Alex was safe.
Scott saw to the groggy man, only to hand him to the onsite Tracy Industries medical team. His life was in no danger and he would be well attended to while they recovered the others.
Rolling his shoulders, Scott went back to shifting debris.
Just as the ground started rumbling.
-o-o-o-
“Aftershock!” John’s voice bounced through comms as Virgil lifted a couple of tonnes worth of masonry off what turned out to be a mother and child.
He gasped. “Can you move?”
The woman was covered in dust, her baby clutched to her chest, tears had streaked her cheeks. But she nodded, hesitantly, and did her best to get her feet under her just as the earth beneath him literally jumped.
He stumbled, his exo-suit whining under stress as he struggled to restabilise the weight. “Gordon!” He could barely hear his own voice over the roar of aftershock and for a split second he thought he was going to lose it.
But his brother was there. Swooping in and gathering the woman into his arms, baby and all, just fast enough.
Virgil was still holding the weight, hydraulics hissing as he fought with it and the ground beneath him shifted his footing.
“You’re clear, Virgil! Let it go!”
He wasn’t sure if it was Gordon or John, but the load was coming down, regardless. He clung to it, following it down with as much control as he could give it, but when it hit, brickwork flew, catching his legs, his helmet, and taking him down with it.
Virgil hit the ground on his side, a tangled mess of exo-suit and flailing limbs.

The 1% Of Chances | TWICE Jeongyeon x M Reader Fanfic : CHAPTER 1
Welcome to my first Jeongyeon x Male Reader book! I hope you guys will like this story that I attempted to make after days of deciding whether I should do it or not. For the reads and votes that this book would get, I gave to all of you already my deepest gratitude for supporting my work. Now, here's the pilot chapter of my 12-chaptered book. Enjoy reading everyone!
Tumblr media
"Alright, you can now leave Mr. YN. Rest assured that I will send you an update after I fully review these including our interview today.", the owner of the establishment said to you while compiling all of your papers he seperated each just to take a look at each of its contents. "Understood, sir. Thank you so much.", you bowed in respect to respond on his statement. He gave you a timid smile before you left your gaze at him and stepped outside his office and the building. You came here to pass some copies of your personal documents that were included on their requirements in search for their new worker to take on their vacant position. And as the guy who is currently desperate to look for an available, still continuing and keeping your hopes high despite being rejected by multiple companies now including taking a time to find another one whether around inside or outside of your area in Seoul, South Korea.
Stumbling to this one, you unhesitantly attempted to try this one; not minding what type of job it is. The only thing that matters to you anyways is so that you could use this job to help yourself survive into this word and maintain your personal life average, whilst figuring out also how to improve and reach the best limit you could ever get that can enable you to help others too who are inspiring to do the same thing as you. Here you are who just finished the interview that was set up by the boss to atleast get a glimpse of your personality and hear to you loud and clear on how can you possibly assured that you'll help and contribute to the changes of the business to make you perfectly fitted for the role, you are now standing outside the building; sighing deeply in relief both in relief and nervousness. Relieved because your meeting is done, nervous is because you don't know if the higher one will accept or reject your application. While you were waiting, you decided to just push aside your overthinking to the back of you head and chose to calm yourself a bit knowing that so far you don't have any huge errands to rush for a couple of days. Before you were even about to hop onto your motorcycle, your phone beeped; stealing your attention. You picked it up, seeing the contact profile of your friend named Somin flashed on the screen. You answered the call by swiping to the green call button. "Hey, what's for the call?", you spoke as your placed the phone near to your ear. "Yo, YN. Where you at right now?" "Outside the building I applied for a job, why?" "Oh, the interview was today? How is it?" "It's fine. The stuttering were atleast controlled and somehow the boss looked convinced on some of my answers to his questions. But that doesn't mean I have to complacent you know? Still, these thoughts of failing to get employed is making my nerves tensed." "Well that sounded good still and also you were right. Just look at the positive side, man. Enough or not enough, you showed to him that you can be very useful anyways." "Same point we're sharing then. That's what i'm doing right now, taking some cool off." "By the way, uhh what time are we going tomorrow?" You remembered your plan because of what he said, causing you to frown immediately. "9 in the morning is fine, man." "Alright. Time flies, doesn't it? I don't intend to ruin your mood but... I know you have the similar expression of mine that it still disbeliefs me. Hasn't it been 2 years already?" He was right, and the truth got your heart even sank deeper at the heavy weight of the sorrow you feel. It's been 2 years since you lost the only remaining special one in your life. The only woman who fought till the end just to stay by your side... even if it costs her life due to her unselfishness. And you both love and hate her so much for that. But even if you argue with her over and over again about that, you know she'll win always. She loves you so much and that love is your weakness. Which was her strength but... fate went upside down as it was instead the one who pushed her to the risk of disappearing forever. It was never easy for you every single day when you'd think about it. "Y-yeah. It feels like yesterday when we attended her funeral.", you answered with your voice getting rough a bit due to your force of not wanting to sob already and instead save your tears for another day. But having the observative friend you have, he didn't failed to let it pass as he got aware that the reality still stabs you straight in the feels. "Sorry if I just said it man. I know it stinged you a lot but hey, feel free to let it all out tomorrow. You know I'll be there always to console you, man." "Thanks, Somin." "No biggie." "I gotta go now dude, I still have to buy some flowers and candles to bring for her resting place before I go home." "Sure, have a safe way home okay?" "Got it.", you replied before the call ended. You placed back your phone in your pocket before riding your motorcycle and revved its engine to have you transported onto your next planned destination. Minutes later, you bought some pieces of lilies and carnation flowers to a floral shop along with some pleasant smelled candles to bring with you to the cemetery where you'll be placing it in front of her tombstone to gift on it atleast on the anniversary of her passing. You then crossed the street and entered a fast food chain next to buy some take-over food as your dinner for tonight. Just a combo of coke, two layered burger, two pieced chicken with a rice and lastly a fries were effective immediately to make your starve and crave for it to be eaten. So you went back to your vehicle and drove instantly in the middle of the road ahead to your sweet home. One of the streets made you stop driving as you got to follow the red light to allow the bypassers to cross the road through the pedestrian lane. In the midst of waiting patiently, your music 's volume shrinked on your earbuds when a notification appeared on your phone. Opening it, you learned that it came from the K-Pop girl group you stan the most, which is TWICE. They just released their concept photos for their upcoming 2nd English Single titled "Moonlight Sunrise" which was labeled also as their pre-released English Track.
It made you ooh-ed in fascination and awe as you got to see the individual photos of the unnie line who are slated as the Batch 1 of their scheduled releasing of concept photos for today. You figured that tomorrow would be the middle line's turn next and the day after would be lastly the maknae line's. After you gave a heart react and shared the post of Nayeon's concept photo, it took you a bit long to head quickly to Momo because there was something that had you abruptly halt on your hand movement. You ended up in a stare with the concept photo of your bias and your huge celebrity crush, Yoo Jeongyeon who looks absolutely damn gorgeous and deadly attractive with her short bob-cut black hair which is definitely your favorite and top-tier haircut look of all time from her. It reminisce you of Feel Special where she had that look first before, and successfully caught your attention that led you today on being a die-hard ONCE and her as your bias without further picking. You smiled widely and shrieked in victory that she returned this look again which made you extremely assured that you'll be loyal even more to her because of this era. "Oh myt God, I really have to prepare my heart and soul for their comeback. She's going to snatch it again and make it hers as usual.", you muttered to yourself. After you finished heart reacting Momo's next, the green light was lit to give you and the other drivers an access to continue driving. The next day, you woke up from the irritating sound of your alarm to inform you that you have to start such a big day today. You groaned at the stretching of your body before you stood up from the bed and fix your bedsheet. The morning routine began as you stepped into the kitchen, making your breakfast for this morning. Afterwards, the preparation for yourself is near to be accomplished as you wore both pair of your shoes one last time before checking yourself in the mirror about how you look. Satisfied enough that you atleast look like a civilized and modernized human being, you left your house then locked it and rode your motorcycle to drive away to the location you're suppose to visit. You stepped inside the JYP Entertainment building after parking your ride at their provided lot, greeting the receptionist courteously. "Uhh hello and good morning miss. I'm here for Mr. Jinyoung Park or I guess I could say JYP himself." "Hello and good morning to you too, sir. Are you perhaps the one that Mr. JYP informed me that he had to meet with an intern today?" "I guess you can say it like that." "Just a sec, sir. I'll just have to call Mr. JYP to alert him of your appearance." She then went on to talk on the telephone where she dialed the number of his boss to call him. It didn't lasted longer as she dropped it right away once the short talk ended. "Sir, you may now proceed to meet him." "Ok thanks. Uhm, wait... where is exactly his office miss?" "Go to the elevator to reach the 3rd floor than walk over the hallway. His office is just after the Prince Recording Room, the one with the gray colored door." "Thank you very much, miss." "You're welcome. Welcome once again to JYP Entertainment!" You followed what the lady receptionist said and now, you were standing in front of what it seemed to be the place you are about to enter and meet him personally. Providing some couple of inhale and exhale to compose yourself, you directed to create 3 knocks on the door before speaking up to signal your presence. "Uhm Mr. JYP, it's me. The intern." "Come in!", you heard the muffled sound of his command from the inside of the room. You obliged, opening the door which revealed the owner of this agency, the legendary and the one and only "Asiansoul" of K-Pop himself, Jinyoung Park aka JYP who is signing some papers in his desk. Along with him was a woman wearing all black attire, sporting a short hair with a nicely trimmed bangs, sitting in one of the guest chairs as she makes herself comfortable. All of their pair of eyes connected at you which made you shy and nervous at the same time when you stepped inside the room. "Mr. LN, great to finally see you.", JYP stood up from his seat and offered you his hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you too, sir.", you accepted the handshake and returned back the greeting. "Before we start, I would like to introduce you to another one who's with us right now in my office. Sadness?", JYP glanced at the woman in front of him. "So you're YN? Annyeong, i'm Kim Nayeon or call me Sadness-noona instead as my nickname. I figured that you'll have to use the honorific noona because based from your application, well it does seem that you're younger than me. Nice to meet you, by the way." "Oh... okay, nice to meet you too noona." "Okay now that we're done on the introductions, YN you may now take a seat.", you followed JYP's command, sitting at the spare chair in front of Sadness. "This won't be along but the reason I want to gather us together here for some short meeting is to first.... congratulate you for taking the spot as part of Division 3's managemant team. And I assume that you don't know who's group you'll be assigned for, aren't you?" "Yes, JYP-nim." "You will be under TWICE's staff team. As their head manager who's tasked to keep an eye and manage the whole group while being the leader of the team, that means you'll be sent to duty as a manager for ONE of the members in the group.", Sadness took the cue to speak next. You were shocked to know that you'll get to have working very closely with none other than the group you're hugely stanning since day one. This just feel so surreal of you. You tried to maintain your fanboying as you have to priroitize being professional and dedicated for your job at the moment. "And may I ask who is it, noona?", you asked in curiosity. "Don't worry, YN. You'll meet her later.", JYP assured you. "Now that we're done to the second reason, let's get it on to the last one which is for me.... as the owner of the company who only wants nothing more but for the safety and the best not only of my artists' experience in and out of my company but also for my employees around here working diligently, I want you to promise me one thing that you will be true to your words of what you told me back in the interview to impress me more. Be a dedicated and a trustworthy worker to his job, please." "And also, give us your word that you swear to assist, guide and guard the girls at all costs, especially to that one particular member JYP-nim and I has placed you with. They are the gem of JYPE who's career has never failed to make the company and also the fans who love them so much be proud of them for what they accomplished in the industry", Sadness continued JYP's words. "You have my word, JYP-nim and Sadness-noona. I swear that I will do my best to work hard for them mostly for that specific one like my life depends on it. I have to be honest, I am one of their fans and a part of the ONCE fandom so yeah, I'm just the same as what my fellow ONCEs and you guys also want the most for the girls... and being very lucky to grab the opportunity to work here in JYPE under their team, I'm here to give action to all of it." JYP and Sadness looked at each other, giving each other a nod and a smile as they were very impressed at your motivated spirit. "Well, that's more like it. I consider it already that you'll be very serious and committed then.", JYP chuckled which made you sheepishly smile. "Let's not waste the precious time, you two can go now so that Mr. LN here can finally start his first work today. Congratulations and welcome to JYP Entertainment again, YN.", he offered again his free hand which you quickly caught it for another handshake. "Thank you so much again for this opportunity, I'll do everything not to let you down, sir and you too noona.", you said to them. Sadness understood and agreed also at your words as she also made handshake with you. You and Sadness sent goodbye to JYP and left his office. You followed and walked with her until both made their way out to the building and went to the parking lot where the van you and her would be riding to is now waiting for them to carry on. After opening the slide door, you and Sadness sat alongside together inside the van as the driver operated the wheels and passed the surroundings of Seoul. The ride ended when the driver slowed down the speed and stopped in front of a large expensive looking dormitory building located in Cheongnam-dong. The guards allowed the van to enter the area before finally parking in one of the vacant slots. You and Sadness exit as both made its way up to the 12th floor where the exact location of the room is.
"How are your doing so far? You ready for your first day?", Sadness asked you as she looked at you. "Still nervous and processing that this is actually happening but yeah, I'm ready.", you gave a smile. Sadness went on to elicit a press on the doorbell then opened the intercom to let the device scan her face and even you who are both standing in front of the door. In just a moment, the door swung open by one of the occupants of the dorm. Jsut as when you had a sight of the stupendous figure of a woman in front of you, your senses went temporarily stopped and had your eyes wide open in surprise. Her eyes connected at first on Sadness before it switched next on yours who observed the entire features observingly at the unfamiliar individual standing next on her nice noona. "Hi, Sadness noona..., oh who's this? Is he..." "Yup.", Sadness answered already as she cut the idol's obvious question. She gestured at you next as if she's presenting you who is still in immense disbelief with the reveal you witnessed. "YN, here it is. The answer to your question earlier. You're assigned as the new manager for her, meet Yoo Jeongyeon of TWICE."

Lucky Penny - Chapter Twenty-Eight
A/N: I literally am completely mind blown that we are so close to THIRTY chapters? When I first had the idea for Lucky Penny it looked so different. It was supposed to just be a sort of love letter from a daughter to the stepdad who raised her, loved her, and had to leave her. 💔 there was no love interest, just friendships, and it was supposed to be a short series where Lucky was reunited with William at the end. Now here we are, another story arc comes to an end right now. I know nobody likes Germy but he was the perfect villian and he served his purpose well.
TW: mentions of sexual harassment/sexual assault/rape but there is very little detail given.
Gotta tag my babes: @mrsjaderogers @gracespicybradshaw @dragon-kazansky @askmarinaandothers @ladylanera @callmemana @starlit-epiphany @cycbaby @callsignscupcake @kloofspeaks @roosterscockpit @notyoursbutlewis (please God let that be all of you crazy kids)
Waking up in her husband's arms had to be the best thing in Lucky's life. She'd been deprived of this for too long thanks to Hermes and his games.
"Good morning pretty girl." Mickey's voice is laced with sleep and damn if it wasn't sexy.
"Good morning." She responds, kissing him and drawing a moan from his lips. "I missed this."
"You have no idea." He says hovering over her, the kisses growing feverish and heated.
"You two better be decent!" Ice's voice comes from the other side of the bedroom door.
"Tom!" Came Dragon's voice and a groan from her husband after a smack can be heard.
Lucky can't help but laugh, as Fanboy pouts.
"After the trial babe, you can have me however you want me." She whispers.
"That's a promise right Mrs. Garcia?"
"Damn straight Mr. Garcia."
They took a quick shower together before getting ready and walking into their living room where the Kazansky and Kerner's were waiting for them.
"What happened to that key being for emergencies Ice?" Lucky asks, a hand on her hip.
"It was an emergency, you can't be late today."
"He also wanted to make sure Mickey wasn't fuc..." Whiskey started but got stopped by Slider's hand coming up to cover her mouth. She licked it but he stood his ground.
"After today none of those idiots will ever hurt you again." Dragon says. "We are going to bury them."
Dragon notices the way Lucky looks away from her, but doesn't say a word. There's more to this feud with Hermes, they have all known that. She'll tell them before too long.
When they got to base, the atmosphere was odd. Even the sky was grey and gloomy like William knew what today was going to bring.
Mickey squeezes her hand, the reminder she needs that he is right here.
The room slowly fills with everyone involved. Lucky looks down at her shaking hands, she's ready to be done with this. All of it. The door opens one last time and Lucky sees the older man who walks in, immediately wanting to hide.
"What is he doing here?" She hears someone ask. "He's been retired for years."
Lucky knows why he's here, she doesn't want him here. She turns her head and sees Jake, they make eye contact and she tries to beg him to not say anything.
The meeting starts, Ice commanding the room as the most senior person here. They go through the parameters of the mission and what went wrong.
"What went wrong is we didn't have a good leader." Jinx says when asked.
"Elaborate."
"We were sent a pilot who is not a team player, sir."
From behind her she can hear Dragon scoff, and Payback clears his throat.
"Baylie "Lucky" Garcia is one of the finest aviators to come through these walls. She was entrusted in a mission last year that required the best of the best and she led that mission." Ice says, his voice as cold as his callsign.
Lucky didn't like his voice being that cold, it scared her. She hoped she'd never have to hear it again, and never at her.
"Perhaps you're getting worse in your old age Iceman." The man from earlier spoke up, causing all heads to turn to him.
George "Strike" Bramley had been in charge when they'd gone through Top Gun years ago. Lucky didn't look his way, she didn't want to see those mean eyes ever again.
"Strike, it's good to see you." Ice says, not sounding happy to see the older man. Lucky can't blame him.
Lucky looks over and sees Hermes looking smug, of course he would. Strike was here, he'd sweep it all under the rug for him. He always did.
She tries to pay attention to the conversation going on around her. She heard the excuses the men are giving for all the reports Jake had found. She hears the Daggers making noises and comments behind her. She's overwhelmed, she doesn't want to be here.
"Can I bring something else to your attention?" Jake's voice scares her back to reality. She knows what he's about to say, she tries her best to make eye contact but he's staring straight at Hermes.
"Of course you can Jake." Ice says, and Lucky closes her eyes.
"I have a file here, number 7628293-A. It was filed by Lucky during her time at Top Gun. It's a sexual harassment claim aganist Hermes."
She feels all eyes on her and wishes she could disappear.
"That claim was recanted by Miss Steele if I remember correctly." Strike says.
Jake glares at him, "it was, on your recommendation. Couldn't have your grandson tainting the family name, could you?"
"It was recanted because it didn't happen!" Hermes exclaims.
"Yes it did." Lucky whispers.
"Lucky, honey, do you want to explain?" Ice says, his voice softer when he speaks to her.
She nods then clears her throat.
"It was about two weeks before graduation. I don't think I need to remind anyone here that I was the only female in our Top Gun class. I was in the showers after a night hop, when Hermes came in and opened the curtain. He cornered me in the shower and tried to intimidate me into quitting because he was upset I was beating him." She takes a deep breath. "When it didn't work, he started to touch me. He was about to do worse when Payback walked in looking for me. We had plans to hit the Hard Deck and I was running late. If Rueben hadn't walked in..I don't know how far Hermes was going to go to get me to leave."
"That's a lie!" Strike says.
Lucky hears Rueben curse under his breath, and she wants to look back. To remind him that he saved her that night. She remembers it all, she'd been so happy after the hop. She was singing in the shower, ready to go to the bar with her boys. Then the curtain had opened and she couldn't even scream. She just stood there and let him get closer to her, let him turn off the water, let him touch her. It had been his voice that stopped him, had been his voice that saved her, and that she could never repay him.
Instead she stares forward and continues.
"When I filed the report, it hit Strike's desk and I was called into the office. He told me that I was a good enough pilot, but that I should recant my statement if I didn't want to be seen as a girl who cried wolf. So I recanted. I was scared."
When she's done, she can hear everyone talking amongst themselves. Rooster's voice rings out the loudest.
"You son of a bitch, how dare you!" She turns around and sees Mav trying to calm Bradley down. Tears flood her vision, so she turns around quickly. She knows if he sees her tears that he'll get even more overprotective.
"But you didn't quit." Dragon's voice is strong and firm. "you didn't quit despite his best efforts, you continued through the rest of Top Gun. You won that trophy fair and square."
"Was it fair and square Dragon?" Hermes snarls. "Or did you and your husband score Lucky differently because she's the daughter you never had?"
"Shut up Luke." Strike says under his breath.
Before either of the Kazanskys' can speak up about the disrespect, it is Lucky that stands up.
"I told you yesterday, you can be an asshole to me all you want. You have been the entire time I've known you. But insulting these people? My family? That's where I draw the line with you. I've let you walk all over me for years. Because that time at Top Gun isn't the only time now was it Hermes?"
The eyes are on her again, but this time they encourage her.
"There was that time when we were stationed in Germany together."
Hermes looks down at the desk in front of him, too scared to look her in the eyes now that she holds the power.
"Bay, what happened in Germany?" Cin asks, giving her friend a careful smile, one that definitely told Lucky she would use her trusty taser on Hermes if need be.
"Hermes raped me in Germany, and this time he got to go all the way because there was nobody there to save me. Isn't that right?"
Hermes says nothing.
"And because Strike was still in a position of power I didn't report it, because I knew it would be swept under the rug just like it had been here. Because God forbid I be a girl that cried wolf."
Rooster jumps up, "you're a dead man Hermes - Mav stop trying to stop me - I can't wait to smack that smirk off your stupid fucking face."
"Only if I get a hit in too." Jake agrees.
"Oh get in line you two, I get first hit." Rueben spoke up.
"I think Mickey gets first dibs honestly." Javy adds and Phoenix agrees.
"Okay all of you, calm down." Whiskey mom voices them all.
Lucky sits down again, and the room is silent for a moment, a hand reaches out for hers. Mickey.
Mickey had never known about either time, she was too scared to even tell him. She hears Ice determine that all the men would be dishonorably discharged from the Navy for abandoning the mission and the various reports against them but she's not paying attention to them anymore. She's looking into those chocolate eyes she loves so much. She sees the hurt in them, but mostly she just sees love. He tucks a piece of hair behind her ear and she smiles. He's done that since their first date, it's a way for him to tell her he loved her with no words.
She spells out "I'm sorry" on his palm, he shakes his head and writes back on hers "I am proud of you"
It takes all her strength to not kiss him right then and there.
Eventually the room clears, until only their little family remains. That's when Lucky bursts into tears, she's finally free. She's free of everything that Hermes ever did to her. Mickey holds her close but Dragon is the first to jump over the table to get to her daughter's other side. Baylie let's Dragon fuss over her. Let's her surrogate mother wipe away her tears.
"My baby."
"It's over Momma, we buried them."
"Yes you did baby."
While his wife fussed over their daughter, Ice looked around the room at their other hooligan children. Mav was still trying to talk Rooster off the ledge, it should shock nobody that he's taking the news that someone had hurt his sister the worst. Then there was Cin being comforted by Jake who also looked ready to murder someone. Rueben was leaning over Lucky while she got cuddled. Their other kids milled about talking quietly.
The door slammed open and Hermes was standing there face red like he'd struggled against someone to get back into the room.
"You little bitch!"
Lucky flinched, and unfortunately for Hermes, Rooster saw it out of the corner of his eye. Mav had thought it was over so no longer stood next to his godson and wasn't fast enough to stop him from launching his entire frame at Hermes. Bradley isn't the only one, almost all the Daggers throw themselves into the fight too. Even Mickey jumps in after making eye contact with Dragon knowing she had Baylie.
Ice doesn't even try to stop them. He should but he doesn't. He is haunted by the fact that something so awful happened to the young woman he saw as his own here at Top Gun and that it had been erased almost entirely. That she kept it to herself all these years just because some stuck up piece of shit had Grandpa cleaning up his messes. So instead of doing anything, he let's his feral children drag Hermes off base as Slider and Whiskey supervised. Once they have him gone from the room Ice takes the seat Mickey had been sitting in and puts an arm around his two best girls.
In that moment Lucky knew she was totally safe, and when she walked outside? The sun was shining again and something shiny caught her attention. A penny.
"Thanks Dad." Lucky says to the sky as she picks it up. Face up, and the year on it? The year William Steele met his future wife and daughter.
She watches as her husband walks back to her.
"I don't think you'll ever have to see his face again mí amor."
"Thank you, for everything Mickey."
He frames her face with his hands, "I'll always do whatever my girl needs me to do." He kisses her softly.
"I'm sorry I never told you, I didn't want you to worry about me."
"I've worried about you since that first day we met. I knew a pilot named Lucky would be nothing but trouble." He chuckles.
"I think I would like to make good on my promise from earlier." She says as he kisses her again.
"Then how about I take my wife home and show her how much I love her?"
"I think that's a great idea."
He picks her up bridal style causing her to laugh so hard she snorts. They pass by most of their friends completely ignoring them. Their only mission now? Get home and jump in bed.
William, buddy, you should probably look away now.
Rooster, you too.
Iceman, don't even think about using that spare key anytime soon.
