On the hill above the Priory, Divine Crusader Lorinda Rue sits, hugging her knees, as twilight settles a shroud around her shoulders. Three of her knights gone. Her brothers, her comrades. Her friends. She repeats their names: Sir Areldur, Sir Brellin, Sir Geimund. Lorinda presses a face already puffy and eyes already red-rimmed into her knees. Dead, because she wasn't fast enough. Wasn't strong enough. Wasn't leader enough. They knew the risks, whispers a part of her. Did they? Did they? Brellin was so young-! Areldur, for all his faults, so pious and trusting. And Geimund, so skilled, looking for orders…

Lorinda had tried to say a few words about them. Standing over their freshly turned graves, the remaining knights and the new recruits clustered, expectant. But words had failed her; only a sob made it out. She fled. Mercifully no one had followed. Sir Thedret had been so excited on her return – stumbling, confused from the Undercroft. Had named her Divine Crusader to the other's cheers. Then she had learnt of their losses. Divine fuckup, another part of her whispers. Crusader of folly. Her hands ball into fists. No leader, she. This must not happen again. Never again.

The Black Arrow stumbles from the bloodworks. The Basin of Renewal may have healed her physical hurts, but it does nothing for the hollowness of her 'victory' against the Grey Prince. The Raiment of Valor hangs heavy on her shoulders, Matron Andronicus's victory lap making it feel more like a millstone than a trophy. She wants nothing more than to go down to the lakeshore behind her house and strip it off, diving deep into the precious waters. A squeal sounds, somewhere behind her, to the right. Footsteps converge on her location. She reaches for an arrow, spinning– – to find a boy, yellow haired and dressed in green, bouncing on the balls of his feet. "By Azura, by Azura, by Azura!" he squeals, hands bunched by his chest, and looking fit to burst. "It's the Grand Champion! I can't believe it's you! Standing here! Next to me!" The Black Arrow drives her ammunition back into its quarrel. "What do you want?" The boy has a book and stick of graphite. If he just wants a signature… She thinks she could deal with that. "I saw your fight against the Gray Prince! You're the best! Can I…" He suddenly goes shy. "You want an autograph? Sure." "No! Well, I mean, yes, but…" "Spit it out." "Can I follow you around? I won't get in the way, I promise." Her head spins. "What?" "I could– Carry your weapon. Or shine your boots. Announce you to your enemies. Anything you need!" The boy is a bosmer, like Brellin. So young. Her guts churn. Never again. "Please? I just want to follow–" "No!" He stares at her with wide, shocked eyes. "Piss off!" she yells. He takes a step back, autograph book clutched like a shield. "I don't need some spineless, toadying little shit hanging around me." "Are…" His voice wavers, too much courage for his own good. "Are you sure?" "Fuck off. Go on, toerag, get gone!" He takes another step back. "But– I–" In a blur of movement, one of her arrows, with their special fletching, is nocked on her bowstring. Drawn back. Pointing at him. His trews darken at the crotch. "I said: Leave." He utters a wordless, fearful, anguished cry and flees. The Black Arrow relaxes her bowstring, replaces her arrow. Nausea fills her from head to toe. Crusader of folly. She grips at the deprecating moniker as hard as the bow in her bloodless hands. Never again.

Huh... there are a lot more changes to the 'f-f-friends' scene than I thought!

Mostly dialogue getting shifted around and streamlined but the most interesting change to me is that in the original the 'f-f-friends' line happened towards the end of their heart to heart but there was additional dialogue about MQ's talk with Jun Wu and MQ's final line was how he's glad to find out that XL doesn't hate him.

In the revision the 'f-f-friends' line is actually the last line. And leading up to is the part about Jun Wu and also how MQ struggled to believe that XL was really a good person and finally admits that he is

I think I figured out why the rounds of Spark Absorption felt like there was more than there were at the halfway point when Ashton exploded:

Matt hit Ashton with three rolls of Spark damage after the second CON save/during Round 2. (Also, Imogen got to cast both Telekinesis to try to hold Ashton together and Watery Sphere that turned to steam to try to cool them down)

Now Round 2 was super busy with everyone noticing and coming up and starting their support. But I feel like only one of those extra doses of Spark damage was even a little bit legit, and that was when FCG had to touch Ashton for Death Ward.

Except that Matt didn't add extra damage to Ashton for any of the Cure Wounds touches in subsequent rounds.

So I would guess that with the amount of things happening in Round 2, it felt like time was passing, so Matt did more Spark damage. But because he didn't have CON Saves going, it was not counted towards the minute Ashton needed to survive.

But then Ashton makes his third Save and Matt declares they're on Round 4. Which does sort of follow with the extra Spark damages, so it seems like Ashton got out of making one Con Save roll.

But when Ashton explodes in Round 6 (going by each save is a new Round, and this was the second save after the Round 4 declaration), Matt says 5 more Rounds.

So Matt was counting the Saves, which contradicted his declaration of Round 4 earlier because it was declared on the third Save.

Anyways, after that, Matt stays consistent to CON Save = New Round.

So that's what was weird about the Round counts for Absorbing the Spark.

Fen Fun Facts: Sleep edition

She has idiopathic insomnia, has had it since she was like a baby (she's known in her family as a notoriously "fussy" sleeper). It takes her awhile to fall asleep (even on meds) and she used to have times where she'd just go days without sleeping for no reason, and then would pretty much pass out for the next couple. She's medicated for it now, but keeping her sleep schedule consistent is still a bit of a challenge, especially when she's trying to balance things like school, work, and other general life stressors.

When trying to fall asleep (especially if she's sharing a space with other people) she's very stiff. She tries not to move around a lot or make any noise, but once she's actually asleep she becomes much more animated (tosses and turns A Lot). Her sisters used to nag her whenever they had to share a bed on vacation cause she'd always bump into them or accidentally "kick" them at some point in her sleep.

Once she's out she is OUT though, and sleeps like the dead. It takes a lot to wake her up. She also doesn't really dream (or at least never remembers them), her brain just kinda offlines for the night.

Sleeps best on her side, prefers her right side

Really enjoys weighted blankets, they soothe her

Because of her generally borked sleep habits/schedule she's not really a morning person. She's capable of getting up in the morning without too much complaint, but generally prefers not to, though if she has a big project due she'll force herself to get up early to work on it (usually just very disoriented after waking up, but otherwise a generally pleasant person first thing in the morning. (ie not a grump)

wears fuzzy socks to bed cause her feet get cold very easily

can't wear long sleeves or shorts to bed, for some reason they give give her sensory issues. So her pajamas consist of a tshirt, pajama pants, and fuzzy socks no matter the season

On nights where she has a really hard time falling asleep, she likes to sit outside and look at the sky

sorry if you've already talked about this previously but when approximately is this fic set? so i can imagine what they're wearing better :)

I have been playing it so fast and loose with the dynastic styles I shan't lie. it's fantasy not historical fiction so I think we have some leeway, but if you must pick a historical period, we are Nowhere near the ming dynasty. if we consider wuyong as equivalent to the end of three sovereigns and five emperors era (aka older even than the legendary xia), then canon/postcanon would literally only be entering the equivalent of 0 AD. that is Han Dynasty. and I did somewhat base Qiongya's government (aka jingjing's "inspector"/cishi position) off of Han records and the money (wuzhu) is from around there (but mostly I picked it just bc it was used the longest in historical record) but some things are from other periods in history

for example, the continent is not united but split into distinctly north and south empires (that's inspired by 400ish AD) and--in the lore I cooked up--the south is less ironclad and have more regional conflicts compared to the north (inspired by the Warring States of 260ish BC--and that didn't even happen in the south that was a northern thing). again, this is NOT historical record. This Is Fantasy

THAT BEING SAID, EACH GOD IS DRESSED ACCORDING TO THE TIME AND CONTEXT THEY ASCENDED. "OH FUCK HOW ARE WE GONNA PINPOINT THAT" you ask. well the answer is simple: I did the work of describing their clothes to you, for free! even the locals get distinct clothing bc I WENT TO A MUSEUM TO LOOK THIS UP AHAHAHAHA SHOUTOUT TO SOUTHEAST ASIAN WEAVERS I SEE YOU

TLDR bc I have work tomorrow: loosely Han Dynasty but I provide enough descriptions for when it matters that you'll be fine either way and it doesn't matter bc qiongya (based off hainan) has culturally distinct clothing styles that might not even look like the typically flowy han dynasty clothes anyway AND I am not loyal to historical accuracy I'm having a ball in this bitch. I describe these clothes so you'll be fine
