The Beatles - SHE’S LEAVING HOME
a sad commentary...
she's leaving home after living alone after all those years, something inside that was always denied for so many years...
Mom and Dad never knew that she was living alone for “so” many years...
Wednesday morning at five o'clock
As the day begins
Silently closing her bedroom door
Leaving the note that she hoped would say more
She goes down the stairs to the kitchen
Clutching her handkerchief
Quietly turning the backdoor key
Stepping outside, she is free
She, ... (we gave her most of our lives)
Is leaving (sacrified most of our lives)
Home (we gave her everything money could buy)
Father snores as his wife gets into her dressing gown
Picks up the letter that's lying there
Standing alone at the top of the stairs
She breaks down and cries to her husband
Daddy, our baby's gone.
Why would she treat us so thoughtlessly?
How could she do this to me?
She (we never thought of ourselves)
Is leaving (never a thought for ourselves)
Home (we struggled hard all our lives to get by)
She's leaving home, after living alone, for so many years
Friday morning, at nine o'clock
She is far away
Waiting to keep the appointment she made
Greeting a man from the Motortrade
She (what did we do that was wrong)
Is Having (we didn't know it was wrong)
Fun (fun is the one thing that money can't buy)
Something inside, that was always denied,
For so many years, .
She's leaving home
bye, bye...

Ito ung pinagkakatiwalaan long Mekaniko.
Ikaw ung asset dun eh, ikaw ung magaling dun eh.
Especially Motortrade Yamaha 3s Shop.. Ano ang reason?

SELF-REFLECTION // 02.2023
What are your three biggest goals?
To be debt-free
This too shall pass.
Claiming na makabawas ako ng 80% this year. Hopefully yung motor na lang maiwan.
2. Save money
3. Increase income
What did you do today to be one step closer to achieving them?
I worked today. Hindi sapat pero I'm glad I did. Hindi tulad nung mga nakaraang buwan, onting kibot no work at all. Pero ngayon I'm trying naman and I acknowledge that.
What is currently not helping you and needs to be removed from the list?
EXCUSES. Third, social media - kailangan ko pa to bawasan and monitor ang usage.
Here's to a more productive 2023.

e-Service Learning Project: E-Negosyo mo yan! (Part 1)
As a requirement for our La Sallian Business Leadership, Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility class, we were tasked to come up with an e-Service Learning Project. Through service-learning, we use our education and talent to serve others especially the less fortunate. It sounds like another CSR or community engagement activity where we had to work with a partner organization. However, DLSU takes it to another level: Service-Learning is a part of DLSU’s vision-mission, a leading learner-centered research university, bridging faith and scholarship in the service of society, especially the poor.
Our group has partnered with Motortrade Life and Livelihood Assistance Foundation, Inc (MLALAF).
Tumblr media
Vision: To see communities of passionate lifelong learners for the glory of God.
Mission: to be a catalyst of positive transformation, establishing community learning centers that equip lifelong learners with academic excellence and biblical values producing quality life and responsible citizens of our nation.
Beneficiaries: Out of School Youth and adult college students
Their programs include:  Providing Scholarship, Values Education and Alternative Learning Systems. Their ALS program (then called Non Formal Education or NFE) started with just a few learning centers and then continued to grow in terms of outreach area, staff and learners, network, partners and churches.
E Negosyo: E-Commerce in the Philippines
Our group has partnered in conducting Alternative Learning System (ALS) program in urban poor communities all over Metro Manila. Our goal is to provide and train their trainers - to further expand the ALS program offerings.
Our chosen project involved E-Commerce – online selling is gaining more popularity to generate income. There are 69 million internet users in the Philippines, and 75% of these users already have made purchases online. Selling online has never more been easy and more popular - with the popularity of e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Lazada and Facebook marketplace, buying and selling online is indeed the future of business.
Especially with the Covid-19 pandemic, numerous lockdown, social distancing requirements, and restriction the movement of people, more and more businesses shifted to online business. Without the need for large capital, e-commerce or setting up your online business is a great way to generate income, especially during this pandemic.
We noticed that our group has key strengths: One was already working in an e-commerce company, one was a marketing manager, one works for a digital bank, and others started their own online businesses. I personally had experience with starting my own business, and I had client-handling experience in my current work. E-commerce was a perfect combination of our backgrounds and experiences.
Coming from diverse backgrounds, our group was enthusiastic to share our knowledge and experiences. Here was initial topics that we wanted to cover.
Tumblr media
All these would change when we met with Ms. Shirlyn Kho, President of MLALAF. She was one of the most heart-warming and passionate persons I have met, and she really believe in making a difference in the lives of their partner communities.
 First meeting
When we first came up with a proposal, we had a comprehensive material and we were planning to make it an extensive training for e-commerce. We wanted to have our learners be equipped with as much knowledge to start their own businesses.
When we presented the proposal to Ms. Shirlyn, she wanted to our group to come up with a module for their instructors and trainers that is practical and relatable. Instead of classroom discussions, she wanted a game-based or activity-based approach to learning. At the same time, the material must be simple, easy-to-learn and teach, and easily implemented. They had challenges in the previous modules that they received – as they were hard-to-implement and are learners needed capital to start businesses. We agreed to revise and narrow-down our modules and come up with a more basic and practical approach.
Tumblr media
After our initial meeting, we narrowed down our topics and simplified our module:
Tumblr media
Talking to Ms. Shirlyn helps us understand the perspective of our trainers, learners and the partner communities. We have come up a solid plan, and created a learning event called E-Negosyo – e-commerce talk with a practical approach to starting your own online business.
Tumblr media
Key Learnings
At first, I was adamant on this requirement, especially at this time of pandemic. How can we come up with a project that will be sustainable to our partner organizations? In the corporate world, part of my work is project management. I needed to talk to all stakeholders first to come up with a successful project. Getting your stakeholders inputs helps create a project that works. And having a concerted efforts - with the help of Sir Niku of DLSU-COSCA, Ms. Shirlyn of MLALAF and my talented and experienced groupmates, we came up with a project that is sustainable and is beneficial to our partner communities in the long-term. Given the current situation ,our only hope is that we are able to impart our knowledge and experiences to our learners - and hopefully have them start their own e-commerce or online businesses.

Are your Customer’s Vehicles covered? Your Public Liability Policy states that there is an extension for Customer’s Vehicles, but what if you aren’t at fault? Someone brakes in to your workshop, brakes into the key lockbox, and steals the car. This isn’t covered under your Liability Policy. You need a Motor Composite Customer’s Vehicles cover. eSL Project Conceptualization and Preparations
The end of the term is fast approaching. One fine day of June it was just the start of the classes for our Ethics and CSR subject, now we are down the road of completion. The days went by so fast that I did not notice the presentation for our service learning is just a couple of days away.
One of the requirements for this BUS560M course is the service learning. Since it was a challenge to actually do the service learning online, Prof. Pia instructed us that we could merge with another group from the case analysis grouping so that it would be easier for us to implement our project.
We had to come up with a project that is partnered to an organization that could help its beneficiaries. We partnered with Motortrade Life and Livelihood Assistance Foundation, Inc. (MLALAF). This organization has been a service provider for the DepEd-ALS program since 2003. Though it was made easy for us to find for our partner organization, the challenge of conceptualizing and pushing through for the project with them was hard. All thanks to my groupmates and the other group who have united with us, we decided to have our project become a sustainable one. Sustainable in a way that the next sets of beneficiaries of MLALAF can benefit from our project and it can be passed on and on to other learners. We have come up with writing modules for trainers. Ms. Shirlyn requested that these modules be centered on the topic of entrepreneurship. The whole project is all about everything that as person needs to learn and develop if they get to decide to start up a business. Since we are MBA students and business is a common denominator for us, it was much easier to come up with the said topic because it is close to our hearts. The project is divided into two, activity-based learning part one and two.
Little did I know that formulating the said module is harder than I expected. I think of it as simply writing a module for a class. Yes, it is writing for a class but then I remembered that the one who will benefit with our output are people who wants to start a business. I told myself to take this one seriously because whatever is the content of our output will determine if it would be helpful to our beneficiaries.
Our group is assigned with the part one of the project. It focuses mainly on three topics namely the attitudes and skills of an entrepreneur, how to select a business, and marketing. The topic assigned to me and my partner is all about marketing of a business. As a business graduate, I have a background on this. I actually enjoyed giving inputs on our part. It was like going back to undergraduate classes again. I get to recall my marketing subject and read one of the book references we had. It was challenging because we had to made as simple and clear as possible for the trainers who would be using the modules. Also, we had to compress it, be concise as possible. We were also advised that we should make the module be adapting to the current setup we have wherein everything is happening virtually.
We were told that we needed to present and actually demonstrate to the trainers how the modules and activities be delivered to the beneficiaries. I am excited and anxious at the same time when I have heard about it for the fact that us, graduate students, would actually present before a number of educators themselves. The challenge is to be very persuasive, informative, and interactive.

A step closer…
Time flies so fast, couple of months ago I just started writing my blogs and here I am now, about to end the first term.
Well, I just remembered the days where I was contemplating whether to apply or not in Masters. The first time I decided to apply, I was rejected and advised to re-apply. Still having second thoughts if I will pursue this dream, I am really hesitating and undecided. Through different advices from my parents, siblings and close friends, I finally re-applied. It is not an easy decision for me, to be honest, weighing the amount of time and money needed but I know that this step will make my dreams closer.
As this is my first term only, I took the three courses as suggested by my program advisor. I just remembered how I started the term, this is as embarrassing as I missed the orientation. It was truly awkward and irresponsible for me, knowing that I was very excited on starting my first term, yet I failed to attend. I needed to send an email of explanation why I missed it. Moving forward, my first Saturday classes began, one in the morning, which is ENG501M and the other in the afternoon is BUS560M. These two classes are different, in terms of nature and final output, good thing I took Saturday classes only.
My English class (Advanced Technical Reading and Writing 1) ENG501M requires to always turn on the camera, this is also something new to me, because even in our office online meetings, we do not do that. Also, my classmates are not all under the Ramon V. Del Rosario College of Business (RVCOB), mostly are under the Brother Andrew Gonzales College of Education (BAGCED). Since most of them are teachers by profession, they are all good and confident in public speaking. Also, our professor had a different approach, on our first day of class, we were already assigned topics on what to report. As our final output, we were about to have an article review, I was introduced to Turnitin here.
My afternoon class is Lasallian Business Leadership, Ethics, and Corporate Social Responsibility (BUS560M). As mentioned above, these two classes were different from each other. In this class, we get a lot of interaction with my classmates through breakout rooms. Every meeting, different breakout rooms and different experiences with my classmates, I think I almost teamed up with all of my classmates. I think those breakout rooms really helped me to ease out of my shyness among interacting with others. I had the chance to voice out my story and opinion. Also, the highlight of this course is the e-service learning (e-SL). We were grouped into three and were to conclude a final output. Our e-SL was partnered with Motortrade Life and Livelihood Assistance Foundation (MLALAF) and was asked to develop activity-based learning modules. These modules are focused in the steps and key points in starting up a business. While writing the modules, I realized how our teachers adjusted in the blended learning due to the pandemic, their efforts should be rewarded. Our group also got the chance to meet the MLALAF instructors and present to them our modules. The experience was really a blast and memorable.
My first term in MBA is about to end, the feeling is really unexplainable. You know, why? Because it is mixed emotions. I’m feeling thankful, that I survived but also nervous on how my grades are. I really have no idea on how the time really flew so fast. I was grateful that on how both of my professors here in first term were very considerate. I want also to commend my classmates for also surviving our first MBA term. Animo La Salle!

Our Service-Learning Activity!
Service-Learning is a credit-bearing, curriculum-based educational experience wherein Lasallian students participate in activities that meet identified real human needs. The program encourages students to make use of the knowledge and learnings gained from De La Salle University (DLSU) for the benefit of the marginalized sectors of society. I believe that this academic requirement has a potential to change not only the beneficiaries’ lives, but also the perspective of the students toward social engagements.
So, how did our group start the journey with this project? We first chose our partner organization with the help of the organization Center for Social Concern and Action (COSCA), the social development arm of DLSU. Our selected partner is Motortrade Life and Livelihood Assistance Foundation, Inc. (MLALAF). MLALAF is a non-profit organization who is interested in the improvement of the quality of life and the social and spiritual values of the urban poor. It is a family foundation. Its purposes, among others, are “to see communities that are passionate lifelong learners for the Glory of God; to be a catalyst of positive transformation, establishing community learning centers that equip lifelong learners with academic excellence and biblical values; to improve the quality of life of Filipinos and to provide educational access and opportunities to the marginalized sector of the society”.
Next, when we already have our partner organization, it’s time to think of the project that we will be implementing for them. We met with MLALAF and COSCA to gather information and ideas for our group to come up with our project proposal. Blessedly, MLALAF has provided us with a project that they think will help their beneficiaries, the out-of-school youth and adults (OSYA). Now, we will be creating activity-based learning modules with the topic of “How to start your own business?”. This project aims to help marginalized societies in creating their own business model and promote positive transformation by teaching OSYA on how to make a living.
To better understand our partner organization and its beneficiaries, I conducted a research about them, which led me to finding a video about them in YouTube with the title “MLALAF (Motortrade Life and Livelihood Assistance Foundation, Inc.)”, which I immediately shared to my group mates (you may access through this link https://youtu.be/GhokaCMq2YE ). The video shows how MLALAF started, their mission, vision, founders, partners, and most importantly, some of the livelihood programs that they have implemented. MLALAF only started with 11 learning centers within Pasig and Marikina, which grew to 75 learning centers in 2018, and has helped around 15,000 out of school youth back then. One of their projects is the Alternative Learning System (ALS) which helps a lot of out of school youth to earn their high school diploma. The video also shows a lot of testimonies from MLALAF beneficiaries. They are very thankful to MLALAF because their lives have changed, they received better opportunities, and they learned how to pursue their dreams. Some of the ALS graduates pursue college degrees while others already looked for a job. There was one ALS graduate through MLALAF, Gina, who became an ALS instructor to return the blessings that she got. This organization is truly amazing, a channel of God to help the marginalized society.
Our group is still in the initial phase of the project, but as early as today, I believe that we already realized the potential value of our project once we designed and implemented it according to the needs of the marginalized people. It can go far, far beyond an academic requirement. It can go as far as helping the economy of the country by educating the marginalized and helping them make a living. Right now, I am very excited, and at the same time nervous about the outcome of this project. I pray that God will lead us and use our group, MLALAF, COSCA, and DLSU in this wonderful service for marginalized people.
