Exploring Delhi's Delightful Sweets: The Significance of Motichoor Ladoo in Delhi and Chappan Bhog in Delhi
Importance of Sweets in Indian Culture:
A long time ago someone asked me why people in India gift sweets on every occasion be it a festival, first job, birthday, marriage, or any special day in life. I replied, “ It’s an integral part of India’s culture”. It's because it is a tradition for a long time.
Most of India’s sweets are prepared with Ghee, Sugar and Milk which is considered pure(Satwik) and it is believed that the first offering is made to god so sweet or mithai is offered to god first then everyone else as Prasadam. India is the one and only country which holds the record of having the most numbers of sweets. There are hundreds of known sweets which have different significance as per different festivals and states but the Motichoor Ladoo in Delhi and Chappan Bhog in Delhi have an extra significance in sweets.
Motichoor Ladoo in Delhi:
Motichoor Ladoos are mouth-watering, easily melted small sweet balls mainly prepared with Gram flour (besan), ghee, sugar and some spices like cardamom. Motichoor basically means crushed pearls but in reality, they are tinny granules(small boondi) made with the batter of Gram flour (besan) after frying in ghee or oil. At Shagun Sweets, we prepare the best Motichoor Ladoo in Delhi which is prepared with the best quality of fine gram flour(besan) with pure desi ghee.
People often get confused between the Motichoor Ladoo and the Boondi Ladoo as they look the same and both are made with boondi but the main difference is Boondi Ladoo’s boondi are bigger while Motichoor has small boondi in it.
Originating from Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, these Ladoos came to Delhi around 1700. Among all the Ladoos, Motichoor Ladoo is the most famous and loved Ladoo in India.
Popular Places to Buy Motichoor Ladoo in Delhi:
Some of the popular places where you buy the best quality Motichoor Ladoo in Delhi are Shagun Sweets. Where all the quality checks and standards are followed to prepare the Motichoor Ladoo that's the reason Shagun Sweets is the best choice to buy Motichoor Ladoo. You can even order online through Swiggy and Zomato.
Importance of Motichoor Ladoo in Delhi:
Motichoor Ladoo has its own special importance in festivals and celebrations all over India as well as in Delhi. There is not even a single marriage left without the Motichoor Ladoo in Delhi. For every occasion be it marriage, birthday, worship, or rituals- these Ladoos are prepared and offered to relatives and deities. In every auspicious work, people offer Motichoor Ladoo to Lord Ganesha as Prasadam as these Ladoos are favourites to Lord Ganesha.
Chappan Bhog in Delhi:
Chappan Bhog is made with two words one is Chappan which is number 56 and the other is Bhog which means offering so Chappan Bhog literally means “56 offerings”. So Chappan Bhog does not include a single dish or sweet but it is a combination of 56 eatable dishes which includes sweets like Rasgulla, Jalebi, Barfi, Ghewar and Motichoor Ladoo; salty like Namakpare, Bhujia, Papad etc; dry fruits as almond, cashew, raisins etc.
Origin and History of Chappan Bhog in Delhi:
There is a famous story about the origin of Chappan Bhog in Delhi. During the childhood of Lord Krishna, the people of Vrindavan used to serve lavish food to Lord Indra to make him happy so that he makes the timely rain. So little Krishna asked Vrindavan people to stop it as he thought it was an injustice to them. Lord Indra got angry about this and started a heavy rain and storm in Vrindavan and made flood-like situation. People went to Little Krishna for help then he asked all the people to gather at Govardhan Parvat(Mountain). Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan Parvat on a little finger as an Umbrella to prevent Vrindavan’s people from this heavy rain.
The rain did not stop for seven days and Lord Krishna hoisted the mountain without moving a single inch and without food during these days. It is believed that Lord Krishna used to have 8 meals or dishes in a day so considering this, people prepared and offered 56(8 dishes X7 days) to Lord Krishna to show gratitude. From then, there is a legacy to offer Chappan Bhog to Lord Krishna through their Devotees.

Boondi ke ladoo
Boondi is an Indian dessert made from sweetened, fried chickpea flour. Being very sweet, it can only be stored for a week or so. Due to the need for preserving food in arid regions of Rajasthan, boondi laddu ("Nukti ja laddu" in Tharparkar) are preferred. There is also a savory version, called Khara or Tikha.
Boondi is also considered an important recipe as per the Hindu culture as the sweetened boondi is often distributed in many parts of India specifically on Tuesday in remembrance of Lord Hanuman.
there are quite a few similarities between boondi laddo and motichoor ladoo with texture and sweetness. but is prepared totally with different techniques and instruments with different cooking procedures. arguably boondi laddu is much easier and simpler recipe compared to the later one. and it can be prepared with readily available filter spoon or frying spoon.
whereas for motichur ladoo there is dedicated filter which yields very tiny besan peals. later it is mixed with red colour and sugar syrup which is followed by shaping it to round balls.
But if you are really craving for boondi ke ladoo and don’t have much time to prepare it at home than order now and enjoy delicious taste of MOMSKART.
