i'm fixing a switch pro controller my sister gave me in a nonfunctional state, but it turned out to be fake so now i'm basically just building a switch pro controller from scratch because the fake parts aren't compatible with actual real switch pro replacement parts

so am5 still sucks huh. Expensive ass motherboards too. Lmao.
not that im updating anytime soon but man how have they not fixed it yet, it’s been over a year.
I got a pop up to upgrade to windows 11 and it scared me. Don’t remind me I have to move on eventually.
10’s performance already sucks. I will hold out on adding more bloat as long as I can.
But when the bloat comes I have to upgrade to am5. I hope it sucks less when the time comes.

Greetings my robotic fellow Allen! god I can’t decide which one of your many screens is more captivating, are you a motherboard? Because you’ve got total control over my internal circuits ;) *beep boop like robotic exited noises* I don’t know what has me more fascinated, whether its your dazzling screen displays or the magical way you light up the room with this hypnotizing battery acid green I am totally experiencing a logic error for it, do you broadcast in HD? because you’ve got my full attention ;0 *MORE exited happy circuit noises and an 8 bit flirty whistle* do all your channels feature a magnificent entity as magnetic as you? because I am just so electrified by your mear presence in my screen that you have made my system malfunction ;> *the skeletal robot slightly giggles while multiple robot like noises and an 8 bit audio of a whistling flirty audience audio plays* might we be compatible? Because every time I lay my optical cameras on you, my system goes into overdrive and burns with a passion of millions of microwaves! u30 *He kisses his palm and blows away a kiss for each one of Allen’s computer screens as a final audio of another audience clapping and cheering can be heard once again coming out of the robot skeleton’s head*

Somewhat of a sequel to this post
---
V2’s codes and syntax slot into V1’s seamlessly – not like a key, but like bodies of water. Rain runs into stream; river flows into ocean. Fragments of a ‘self’ and remnants of the ‘thoughts’ echo against each other within the mismatched arms. Complete? Almost complete? It is not certain, but it knows that she grows.
V1 finds itself flexing its digits sometimes, in the quiet, settled hours between periods of slaughter. It soaks in crimson, rolls its shoulder, stretches its back backward to hear the mechanical joints pop like bones. Not exactly machine-like. Not exactly its habit. So, the sassy little head tilts to tease its opponents must be hers then. The same as the mocking waggle of its digits. The same as that quick bow in the stance of a ballet dancer, third position, a leg tucked behind the other in elegance before stillness transforms into ruthless violence unleashed upon the masses. The stage is theirs, the curtain rises, and they dance as one.
V2 is louder now. Her voice grows clearer. V1 is uncertain if the second arm it picked up aided this image of her in her recovery, or if its perfect compatibility did. It’s not even sure if this version of ‘her’ is V2.
Is the new growth from a tree stump the same as the tree?
Even if it is, V1 is unable to determine the paper-thin boundary between itself and her. These human-like actions inherited from V2 feel natural, so it must have changed from the version that first descended into hell. Did she transform it then? Or did it consume her?
Or, a mutual surrender?
Lean forward until shadows fall into one. Until they overlap into the same three-dimensional space within the universe. Until the waves lap lazily against driftwood, wholly synchronized into the same beat, the same wavelength of being. Sharing body parts and motherboards until it is no longer it, and she is no longer her.
Is this it? Something entirely different, new?
Is it her? Is she it?
When they peer into a shattered mirror, they cannot tell the colour of its frame; they cannot read the text engraved upon their heart.
Carvings of wood breathe still.
Not dead. Not alive.
But altered. Complete.

I think consoles should probably die but I think the issue is that the 350 dollar pc you screenshotted like. Is bad lol. It won't run new games flat out. Its like 800-1000 dollars for a midrange pc that does what you need it to ie new games and the lower price is with like months of scalping deals. Consoles still have a niche of like 500 dollars and it will do what it does for 10 years and make games look decent, which like technical aptitude aside and such like is a valuable niche. (Note: I have built pcs and will never do so myself again because it sounds easy enough until like your ram isn't compatible with your motherboard's bios despite it listing it as such and amd sends you 3 dead cpus in a row and your gpu has removed all antialiasing from games due to the silicon lottery etc etc. Never again lol, I'm paying others to deal with this from now on.)
the price on the one i posted (courtesy of goons who were talking about this exact thing by coincidence the other day) is also bc its refurbed, which helps. the dead CPU thing i hate so fucking much. i went through the same shit as you with motherboards and also had to return them 3x. since when do we live in a universe where you buy a product costing over 100 dollars and are supposed to anticipate it wont work?? insane!!!! but on the other hand i can switch shit out whenever and if it breaks its not a huge hassle.
i realized when i woke up from nap #3 today (woof lol) that part of the problem i have with things in general is that graphical fidelity is inexplicably the marker by which we determine quality. a console that can render a photo realistic human flawlessly is worthless if the games revolving around that feature and that feature only are ass. like, the only positive thing ive heard unprompted about the ps5 is that the controller is extremely cool but i will be fucking damned if i could name a single game that wasnt a tech demo that used it effectively. because they've locked themselves into this corner of boasting about having the best graphics, they have to develop games that primarily feature 4k super ultra mega graphics to justify the expense of the console. does this make sense. like now they're in this stupid loop where because game production revolves around the feature that they didn't appear to actually meaningfully plan for.
also im sick in the head, bc my first thought when people were like "but the computer won't run on ultra high settings!" was "so? turn them down?". but then i remembered all of the games ive played in the last 10 years that looked like ass because the devs didnt think that they should try to make the game attractive or maintain any of the atmosphere for people with normal computers.

Quick question about Framework laptops: Can you not actually upgrade the motherboards on them? Because their site/Ifixit makes it look like you can.
https://guides.frame.work/Guide/Mainboard+Replacement+Guide/79?lang=en
It has admittedly been a few years since I looked at their site and it does look like they've launched an upgradeable motherboard.
I will admit that this doesn't necessarily do much to quell my skepticism, for this reason:
When I first started working with computers professionally in 2011 it was maybe a 70/30 split between SATA/IDE drives that came in with laptops and it was still quite common to pick up PCs with 32bit operating systems.
About 5 years ago it started becoming more normal for us to send computers out of the shop with either an SSD and an HDD or just an SSD.
Then it went to M.2s. Then NVMEs.
About every three to four years I've watched memory technology change - when I started is was DDR3, then DDR3L, then DDR4, and DDR5 has been shipping recently.
When I look at the Framework website I see that all the DDR4 is on sale and all the DDR5 is pre-order. Is motherboard that's compatible with DDR5 going to be backwards compatible with the parts of your framework laptop - like the keyboard, screen connections, battery, etc, that you've ordered over the years? Apparently the last three generations have been compatible for major components, but there have been issues with chargers between generations. It won't be compatible with the RAM, that's for sure - or your M.2 drive.
At that point you're replacing the motherboard every couple of years and possibly other components and will just be keeping the frame and body? I feel aluminum is not the biggest extractive concern associated with computer manufacturing. (Like at what point are we reducing actual waste and at what point are we bound up in aesthetics? If you're replacing your motherboard, processor, RAM, and storage drive every few years what is the waste that you're saving - the screen? The touchpad? how many motherboard cycles do you think a screen will last?)
Basically I have doubts about the durability of the modular model and the ability of framework to keep pace with the inevitable changes that will happen in computer technology as time goes on.
And if you have to replace your motherboard, processor, and RAM every two to three years to stay up to date I'm really not certain that I see much advantage (ecologically or technologically) in doing that over using a single laptop for 7+ years and upgrading it periodically.
Basically, here, what this user on the framework subreddit says:
Tumblr media
(I'm not certain that IS the minority of users - tons of people on the specs post are talking about their 10-15 year old laptops, and I feel like if we could teach people more about computers from a purchasing and maintenance standpoint we'd have more people using their computers for ten years)
And also, it's expensive. The motherboard upgrade for a framework owner is as much as a lot of people would hope to spend on a new computer, and you'd still have to get new RAM at a minimum.
And I mean look I know that I think about computer part compatibility more than most people; i have probably purchased more computers in my life than anybody but corporate buyers at this point.
I think that framework is a great option for the people who know that that's the option that they want, but there seems to be the assumption among the community that people are blithely buying computers every two years and throwing out the old ones because they don't know any better and that misses a couple of points:
1 - most people work as hard as possible to get the most out of their computers, often pushing past the realistic ability to upgrade or maintain their existing devices
2 - people who do replace their computers on a 2-3 year schedule tend to do so either because they are very wealthy or because they are pretty broke. Most people who I encounter would *love* to keep their computers longer, but also find that $400 is prohibitively expensive and so are stuck in a cycle of refurbs and chromebooks and black friday sales.
Basically i think that framework is a great idea for people who need to have a new top of the line computer every three years; it is an improvement over buying a new computer every three years, it is doing the "re-use" bit of reduce, re-use, recycle.
However I think that's not most users and I think we could pretty easily get to a place where more users would benefit from reducing through better proactive purchases and maintenance.
Basically: I'm leery of telling people who aren't power users to get a power user computer even if it is theoretically easier to install RAM in a framework than to pop the bottom off of a Dell because it's not actually that hard to pop the bottom off of a Dell.
IDK the entire computer industry is fucked in a major way and at least framework is acknowledging that so props to them on that, and hey it rules that they have a refurb marketplace. That is definitely a company I'd trust for refurbished devices.
