Fourth card I got from @mota-collab bingo (get yours here 😉 )
Home -> This AMV I made, I thought I wouldn't be able to finish it in time, but inspiration struck again and tada. It focuses on the 100th behind enemy lines on Sam Tinnesz's song Far From Home (the Raven)
Leave a long, detailed comment -> Let your heart be light by @joeyalohadream. An absolutely stunning fic, full of feeling and tenderness, it will transport you to the middle of a tree farm, with the smell of pine trees enveloping you and hot chocolate warming your soul. Joey's writing is stunning and conveys so many vivid emotions 🫶
Sharing a blanket -> A shared morning for shared memories (self rec). A little moment post-war between, Marge, Buck, Bucky, a blanket and a kitty 🥰
Reblog / comment on your favourite art -> @alienoresimagines's MOTA incorrect quotes. I've really enjoyed going through Ali's incorrect quotes, they're funny, sweet and always spot on (plus I love the chats we have and the headcanons that arise from each one of them 🤭)
Keyboard smash with a lot of emojis on something you loved -> This beautiful art by @moontashpena. Stunning art that always makes me smile and fill me with warm feelings 😍
Listening to music together -> The fandom's playlist of clegan songs. I can't believe i almost forgot about this playlist 🫢, but it feels like a good fit for this prompt 😉
Phone calls -> out of the fog, you’re calling my name by waitingforsols i'm not gonna spoil anything but it's such a sweet Rosie/Harry fic 😊
First kiss -> Love Letters by @soliloquy-dawn Wonderfully well-written, you're carried away by the words and caught up in the story in no time, I particularly rec chapter 6 for the prompt 'FIRST KISS' (I won't spoil anything but it is definitely a must read 😉).
"You’re safe." -> Safe only means something when you're next to me (original fic i made for the bingo 😁). Back at base after being a POW for so long, Bucky is finally alone with his little wolf when reality hits.
Comment on a fic with less than 1k words -> Curve Ball by Stellascoot. Love CleganMarge and the way of Bucky is struggling is so well written 🥰
Coffee shop au -> if it feels like love (then it must be love) by @rangerelizabeth. Ok, it's not quite a coffee shop AU, but Gale works in a coffee shop for most of the fic and the story is absolutely brilliant. We follow the growth of friendship and love between them, as they face the challenges of college student life. I laughed, I smiled, I got teary-eyed and heartbroken but most of all, I enjoyed every moment of the story. They are so cute and sweet 🥰
College au -> You Make Me Come Alive by @happy-days19. I'm in love with this fic, it hooked me from the start and I'm still thinking about it even months later. It's so well written, you can feel the emotions of the characters, you're drawn into their adventure as they fall in love and it's a wonderful experience.
Smile -> This sweet art by @coldarena Love the characters expression and mota's smile is just so cute, I could stare at them for hours
Free space - other unique au -> a lot of starving faithful by @draginfyre16. I'm not usually a zombie apocalypse fan but this one hooked me, I love the way the characters are written and their thoughts are really great to read about (plus the ace-spec gale tag definitely thrilled me 🥰)
Tickling -> she’s cheer captain and i’m on the bleachers by @reminiscing-romance. Particularly rec chapter 8 of this fantastic fic for the tickle fight, you're caught up in the story right from the start, and it doesn't take long to hang on to every word written.
50s/60s/70s au -> someone will remember us by @sapphic-terror. To find your world completely turned upside down is a frightening thing, especially when memories, sorrow, incomprehension and grief get in the way. The need to know then collides with the bliss of ignorance, and op has written it in a remarkable way. Bring your tissues before you start this one 😭 (Inspired by dial drunk, die a drunk, die for you by miladiel and where all light comes in by @sapphic-terror)
What do you think?

this whole damn scene makes my eyes roll back by @irregularcollapse which fits this prompt because of gale's last line. i'm a huge fan of anything b writes but a punk au will always have a special place in my heart, and this one establishes each of the buckies' brands of craziness perfectly. bloody good meet cute, literally
came for the fluff stayed for the crippling depression
rewind. repeat. delete. by @whirlpool-blogs which i clicked on thinking "ooh bucky is an android what a fun and cute idea" and by the end i was a blubbering mess. so well done and one i've reread many times

We have a problem: why am I watching this sex scene again?
Ah. Sex scenes. You wild wild beast. The crossroad of many discourses and analyses and opinions and essays and now, here I am, a mere casual ww2 rpf fan, throwing my own hat to the ring. In this blog post I'm going to talk once more about sex scenes -- two in particular -- and why the eff one of them matters, making the ww2 rpf more compelling and the other did not.
Disclaimer: Whether or not sex scenes are needed in media in general or the right way to implement them across the vast spectrum of art is not part of this discussion. Please keep in mind I'm trying to complain about the writing decision in the small scope of the HBO War shows.
I have discussed the problem with the Crosby/Sandra plot line in a previous analysis here. But I think the problem with it requires another (and maybe a third) write-up. Here, I want to talk about why the tiny sex scene between Crosby and Sandra in episode 7 is a waste of screen time.
So, we have the sex scene in MOTA episode 7. It is somewhat explicit and it was clear it is consensual and that the people who are fucking is very into it. In comparison to other sex scenes in HBO War fandom, it doesn't exactly stands out to me with just the imagery of the act (of course this is a personal opinion, whether or not I find a sex scene hot or bad or corny or lovely or [insert adjective here] is not universal).
However, my problem with this sex scene between Crosby and Sandra is that it doesn't matter to the story.
After getting it on with Sandra, and then after she left him, Crosby never talked about this affair in anyway. Not over the narration, expressing some kind of sentiment over it, not with Rosie or any other guy, so me, the audience, have no idea what he think about it or how he might be affected about it. We didn't know what Sandra think or feel about it either because her scenes are about her spy works and that's it.
You might say: well he doesn't have to tell us how he feel if the show can demonstrate to us the same thing.
Yet, MOTA never did that. Furthermore, the show never portray the sex between them matters to the characters beyond getting their rocks off. And then, the sex doesn't matter to the theme of the episode nor the overall theme of the show either. It's just something that happened.
(Sad to say that maybe this sub-plot distracts me from the rest of episode 7 and 8)
This might be consider 'realistic'. In real life, people can have sex just for the joy of it. Which is true, but in a drama mini-series, the choices to include or exclude details must take in consideration whether what is on screen is valuable to the story the show is trying to tell. Why are they including this sex scene instead of the hundred other real life details that don't make the cut? We don't have a training montage for the pilots, we never learn how Quinn and Bailey get back to base from Germany, we never have the D-Day invasion sequence,...
Let's have a comparison to another sex scene.
In The Pacific episode 3, Sidney Phillips met Gwen in Melbourne and started a romance with her that ended in them having sex before he got shipped back to Pavuvu. Personally for me, it wasn't an awesome sex scene either. Both Gwen and Sidney were awkward, they kissed and the entire thing ended with him kissing her bare shoulder.
But what truly matter happened latter. When Eugene arrived in Pavuvu and reunited with Sidney, he asked Sidney about what combat was like. And to answer this, Sidney mentioned him sleeping with Gwen not to brag about his sexual conquest but to make a comparison with the brutal battles he survived.
Despite the fact that the two of them grew up together, in just a small amount of times, Sidney have been through things and done things Eugene hadn't. All of that (both combat and his brief romance with Gwen) had changed Sidney to the point that Eugene could not longer connect with him. There was now a chasm between them. Eugene looked at his friend and tried to understand him but couldn't. There were things that must be experienced to be understood.
And then, Eugene himself went through life-changing events. The war changed him so much that when he returned to Mobile, he once again couldn't connect with Sidney
Or his brother (who was in the Army and was in the euro theatre) -- another person who had gone through the war himself.
Both Sidney and Eugene's older brother had returned home before him while Eugene had just came back, fresh off the board with his mental wounds, and it showed the chasm had formed between him and these two men who supposed to shared this brutal experience with Eugene.
In fact his brother specifically mentioned how Eugene is still a virgin, which highlight further how he was 'missing out' on that particular experience that both these men have.
And this all started when we were still following H company and witnessed Sidney and Gwen having sex. That small thing compounded over time. It snowballed into all these differences and distance that Sidney would have with Eugene, and then Eugene would be having against his own hometown, his brother, his family, and his best friend. It served to show how war had did its number on Eugene in many ways.
The sex scene between Sidney and Gwen mattered to the story, it served a narrative purpose eventually.
Crosby and Sandra's sex scene did not. And to include it meant there would be less screen time for any other story line, leaving not just the sub-plot of Crosby's arc weaker, but the other ones as well. Overall, this creative decision left MOTA a weaker show in term of its writing.

Firet off thanks for the Astronaut!AU fic rec it made my day 😍
Secondly - are you still doing this? ➡️ anonymously message me (3) things you want to know about me
What your first, latest and fave fandom?
What was your first fan social media platform?
What kind of fan are you? Do you care about the actor’s career/work stuff only, or do you follow their personal lives and have opinions about it?
🙏🏻
its sooo good @rambleonwaywardson is a goddamn genius i am in their walls.
I am still doing it!!
my first fandom would probably have been maximum ride? at least where I had a concept of fandom and engaged in it in a meaningful way. I was drawing warrior cats art and had ocs but it was very centralized to myself. Maximum Ride I was writing for and drawing for back on fanfiction dot net. I'm sure my account is still up there but the site seems to be down currently lol
Latest fandom is MOTA/HBOWar haha, clearly. And favorite ughaaa that's hard it's easy/automatic to say your current one but If I were to be honest it's probably homestuck. The fic quality per capita was just...unmatched. The content was amazing, it led to so much creative growth for me and still is the subject of most of my comfort fics and my best art pieces
So before MOTA I was not a tv/movie fandom person At All. I stuck to literary and comic media pretty exclusively with maybe one or two exceptions. But so far I'm very casually following some of the MOTA casts careers and lives. I believe in a healthy respect and boundary

what would the fandom's thoughts be on eileen? and/or connie?
Eileen might be the only person who makes it out of the fandom looking good, to be completely honest.
Now, we should preface this by saying that there are two sides to the TDS miniseries fandom, right? There's the Tumblr side - and then there's the Reddit, dudebro side. That side only talks about Eileen Hammond as it relates to the sword and sandals movies she did in the 50s where she is very scantily clad, her pin up photos, and nose art on airplanes (of which there is A LOT. If I do not make at least one MOTA joke about Eileen on the side of a plane what am I even doing here?) They…really only care when her clothes are off.
Tumblr, on the other hand, fucking LOVES Eileen. Eileen Hammond, living legend, purported member of Dietrich's sewing circle, USO advocate, sometime beard for at least three or four gay actors? BI-CON. (This side of fandom also cares about Eileen with her clothes off but in a slightly more tasteful way, if that's possible.) The only thing they're salty about is that they didn't let her make out with a girl during the series. (Tumblr has some frontrunners for this job, but they're really not picky.) This is the face that launched a couple of Queer Studies doctoral theses and and a lot of '…oh' moments. And some original female characters, probably. She ticks every single one of tumblr's boxes with flying colors and every one of her interviews is extensively giffed - even the ones in her 90s.
A couple people are salty she actually ended up married to Nixon, or that she wasn't progressive enough during her own era to live with a woman. These people are killjoys and we should ignore them.
Connie! Most likely to ALSO do numbers on tumblr as a 'smol gay bean' and a 'disaster lesbian' even though Connie is definitely a lesbian but certainly not a disaster. But she's super relatable and probably gets used a lot for reaction images. (She also gets a lot of rarepair action.) There is a small but not insignificant number of fans who go to visit the bar she started with her partner in Milwaukee during Pride week.
[If my OC was canon how would the fandom treat them?]

Ao3 Fic Meme
I was tagged by @joeyalohadream thank you!
Rules: go to your AO3 account and find the following:
1. What ratings do you write most of your fics under?
Mature (3)
Explicit (5)
2. What are your top three fandoms?
Only have 3 lol
Masters of the Air (4)
Dune (2)
My Own Private Idaho (1)
(used to have an unfinished Fear and Hunger fic up but i wasn't gonna finish it so it was stressing me out and I deleted it, maybe I'll put it back up one day idk)
3. What is the top character you write about?
Curtis Biddick (4)
Ken Lemmons (4)
John Clarence Egan (4)
4. What are your top three pairings?
Gale "Buck" Cleven/John Clarence "Bucky" Egan (4)
Paul Atreides/Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen (2)
Curtis Biddick/Ken Lemmons (2)
5. What are the top three additional tags
Recreational Drug Use (5) (lol)
Angst (4)
Hurt/Comfort (4)
6. Does any of this surprise you
Not really considering I wrote all of these in the last couple years so I remember it p well? Though the stats themselves are a little misleading cus I've still written far more words of Dune fic than MOTA. Those tags kinda outed me as a terrible fiend and it did make me realise that... yeah, people do kinda be doing drugs in everything I write. I wonder why that could be... It's almost as if the art you create is always a reflection of the self. Wild.
As for ratings and stuff, its a weird one because I don't actually consider myself a huge fan of like smut for smuts sake (for someone who writes mostly E rated fic) but what I am a fan of is character analysis and psychology, something which is very well served by writing smut/darker relationships so that is why that is the way it is I gues. The explicit stuff is kinda secondary to the psychoanalysis, but still fun don't get it twisted. (this also applies a lot less to Our House where everything is a lot chiller and funner and most characters don't have like mountains of PTSD)
As for the choices of pairings and the other tags, it's pretty clear I'm a slut for angst and in the case of MOPI and MOTA - a sad blonde man x loud gregarious brunette dynamic.
I tag @whirlpool-blogs, @blixabargelds, @weimarweekly, @swifty-fox and @london-cowboy. Also anyone else who fancies it!

wondering if my expectations for a revived BoB fandom renaissance are going to be fulfilled when MotA comes out
#band of brothers#hbo war#maybe i just had the wrong expectations?#maybe it happened and i couldn't tell bc i stopped following new blogs...?#idk i think the pandemic was an enigma that won't happen again#that was an interesting time for fan culture#kinda nervous tbh about MotA even though I had positive expectations before#between the disgusting and pervy director and an egomaniac a-hole lead actor idk what's up#something about the virtual unknown-ness of the majority of the old core cast of BoB made it all the more endearing#i swear if they have excessive sex in there imma hunt tom hanks down to harass him#look. i am reading MotA and it's not that kind of book. although idk if laser-focused historical drama has a place in the market anymore#im not a show moralist but i am someone who will complain about focusing on things that are supposed to appeal to an audience#who wouldn't otherwise watch the show...#if it's a WWII drama just make a WWII drama. not a rom com you know what i mean#looking at u Top Gun#lol#idk if anyone will read these tags actually#just thoughts#not art#I SPEAK

MobMovieCon and SopranosCon to Have a Sit-Down in Atlantic City
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
It’s time for the punks to meet the godfathers. The creators of SopranosCon merged with MobMovieCon for a family celebration. From July 23 to July 25, Harrah’s Resort & Casino in Atlantic City will house the boardwalk’s biggest gangster gathering since Nucky Johnson hosted the mob’s Atlantic City Conference in 1929.
“Al Capone will not be coming though,” VirtualCons CEO Michael Mota tells Den of Geek. “Those were the mobsters. I would say this would be the biggest gathering of mobster wannabes.” The Sopranos fan convention has come a long way since it was dreamed up by three gangster movie aficionados from New York, Maryland, and Rhode Island. The 2019 SopranosCon drew thousands of fans from as far as The Netherlands and the United Kingdom to the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus. A planned expansion to MobMovieCon had to be pushed back because of the pandemic, but the organizers introduced VirtualCons’ free downloadable app to host fan “experiences,” like a trip to Tony Soprano’s house in Caldwell, N.J.
“It’s grown unbelievably well,” Mota tells us. “We started with SopranosCon of 2019 and got 15,000 people over two days. We decided to open it up to be both SopranosCon and MobMovieCon, but the global reach we have, because of the virtual apps we built during the pandemic, has been unbelievable. Not only will we have thousands of people in Atlantic City, we’ll also have hundreds of thousands of people that will stream it through our app. It’s a great way to connect people to this genre.”
The opening shot for the weekend is a one-night event showcasing the 1996 HBO film Gotti. “It kicks off the weekend, ‘The Gotti Reunion,’” Mota says. “We’ll have Armand Assante, William Forsythe, Dominic Chianese, who was Junior in The Sopranos, but played in The Godfather, and Gotti, and in a tremendous amount of movies.” William Forsythe, and Robert Miranda will also join in the live reunion, which will culminate in the event’s big, as-yet secret announcement.
In Atlantic City, crime pays off. This year will premiere the convention’s Mob Movie Awards, which takes place 8 p.m. Saturday. “It’ll be just like watching the Academy Awards and the Emmys,” Mota says. “There will be a dinner served, people will be dressed up, there’ll be a red-carpet event. We’ll have live music. It’s going to be a really nice night of just appreciating the art of mob movies.”
The Mob Movie Awards will be hosted by a bona fide O.G. One of the premiere gangsta rappers who also wailed in heavy metal, and a Newark native. “Ice T became a partner of ours on the app that we came up with during the epidemic,” Mota says. “He crosses over from the music genre to the movies. He’s been on Law & Order for over 20 years, so we just thought that he would be the greatest addition to it.”
According to advance press, awards will be given in categories like favorite depiction of real-life gangster in a film or TV series, and a James Gandolfini Humanitarian Award. “There will be 10 awards,” Mota says. “One is going to be given to someone that’s no longer with us and there’ll be a tribute. Some of the categories are greatest hits. We have the greatest mob wives. I don’t want to give too many away.”
This year’s guests include Paul Sorvino, who played Paulie Cicero in Goodfellas; Lorraine Bracco who played Dr. Melfi on The Sopranos and Karen Hill in Goodfellas; Aida Turturro (Janice Soprano); Vincent Curatola (Johnny Sack); Kathrine Narducci (Charmaine Bucco); Federico Castelluccio (Furio Giunta), Dan Grimaldi (Philly and Patsy Parisi), David Proval (Richie Aprile) and Jerry Adler (Hesh Rabkin). Also on deck are Michael Madsen, Kathrine Narducci, Tom Sizemore, Tony Darrow, Sofia Milos, Jerry Adler, Jeff Marchetti, Taral Hicks, Eric Roberts, Ray Abruzzo, Matt Servitto, Dan Grimaldi, Jason Cerbone, Oksana Lada, John Bianco, Johnny Martino, John Fiore, Frank Santorelli, Garry Pastore, and Artie Pasquale.
The first event hosted 54 actors from the series, but didn’t stop there. There was a “Pine Barrens” tribute maze, an escape room designed like Dr. Melfi’s office, Bada Bing dancers, costume contests and cannoli-eating tournaments.
“The convention is very different than most,” Mota explains. “We have the traditional, celebrity autographs, but we try to really think outside the box. We have Tony Soprano’s truck, the white Escalade. We have the vehicle that Silvio and Patsy Parisi got shot up in. We purchased that from HBO. We have a motorcycle with all the autographs, so we have a little bit for everybody. It’s very experiential. There is a feast-like atmosphere.” So far, the organizers haven’t told the caterers to use Martin Scorsese’s mother’s famed recipe for tomato sauce. “Not this time,” he says. “We will consider it for next time.
Mota hopes upcoming MobMovieCon gatherings will mix in some of the older classic mob movies as well as gangster with gangsta movies. One day we may see New Jack City playing along with Once Upon a Time in America. “Yes, exactly, Mota says. “We want to make sure that it’s very diverse and hits on everything. We actually are working right now on the west coast and December doing one in Las Vegas,” he says. “We would like to do one on the east coast and one on the west coast. And each time we do it, we’ll theme it out. This one is mostly focused on the Gotti movie and then obviously it brings in The Godfather, and Goodfellas. But we’ll pick one or two classics that everybody loves.”
There are a lot of reasons to appreciate the genre which go beyond crime and punishment. “I think people love the connection with family,” Mota says. “I think that people do like to root for the villain. It’s got that constant idea of the government against these folks that came over to this country. They had it tough. They had to come up with a new way of life. And then there’s a balance of glamorizing that type of life, but it is just so it’s just so exciting to see. The diversity of people who were able to come out and come up with their own way of living.”
As a fan of both the series and the genre, Mota doesn’t quite see the upcoming The Many Saints of Newark becoming a gangster classic on the level of its source material. “I was just having this conversation yesterday,” he grins. “I don’t think anything can touch The Sopranos. As much as I want to watch it. I’m afraid that nothing will be able to live up to that standard, for me personally, to be even close to what The Sopranos was able to achieve, but we’ll certainly see.”
