I will never be that type of girl who can have casual interests and be normal about what she likes. If I like something, it's an obsession and it's your job to deal with it. Womp womp if you're not up for that. You WILL be subjected to many many many rants and over explanations about the thing.

if u think about it steve & bucky had the potential to be such a beautiful romance. born in the late 1910’s, their love is illegal, they have to hide their feelings and put their physical safety first. a lover is lost, and the remaining one lays down his life, because he can’t continue to live in a world without bucky. but wait! they both survived and are still the same age but now it’s the 2010’s? gay people don’t have to live in secret anymore? gay marriage is legal???? they can work out the whole winter soldier thing and then, tired soldiers that they are, retire to a townhouse in DC near their new veteran friend sam’s place?? nah psych, steve just figured out how to go back in time and so he marries that one girl that he kissed once and thought he could’ve been with if he hadn’t decided that dying was more important. oh, you thought you were gonna get something new and interesting and in character? lmao!

Orpheus & Eurydice || Steve & Bucky
Moodboard for the @wintershieldbingo
Square: Mythology AU ✔️
I've always felt that the story of Steve and Bucky, particularly as told in Captain America: The First Avenger, had a lot in common with the Ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. For that reason, I have chosen to fill the Mythology AU square on my Wintershield Bingo card by creating a moodboard to draw narrative and visuals parallels between these two tragic love stories.
Orpheus & Eurydice
Orpheus was an artist, the greatest lyre player in the world, who was happily married to the love of his life, the beautiful Eurydice. Their happy life together gets cut short, however, when Eurydice is bitten by a viper and dies, leaving a heartbroken Orpheus behind. Orpheus cannot accept his true love’s death, and so he travels to the Underworld on a quest to get Eurydice back.
Orpheus manages to overcome various hurdles, such as getting past Cerberus, the three-headed hound who guards the gates to the Underworld, and finally pleads with Hades, the king of the Underworld to let Eurydice live again. Hades allows this on one condition: Eurydice is to follow behind Orpheus while walking out of the darkness of the Underworld towards the light of the land of the living, but Orpheus should not turn to look at her before she is fully out in the light again. However, as they begin to ascend towards the land of the living, Orpheus, afraid that his lover is no longer behind him, looks back to make sure she is following, causing Eurydice to tragically fall back into the shadows and be trapped in the Underworld once more.
Steve Rogers & Bucky Barnes
Steve and Bucky are very close friends and most likely even lovers, who live a mostly happy life together in Brooklyn. When World War II breaks out, Bucky is drafted and joins the army, while Steve stays behind in New York. In Italy, Bucky's squad is taken by the enemy, and he is kept prisoner in a dark, abandoned factory housing the lab of Hydra (incidentally also a multi-headed beast from Greek mythology).
When Steve, who received a superserum which turned him into the world's greatest soldier (as well as an artist), eventually also joins the army and gets to Italy, he is told Bucky is most likely dead. Steve point blank refuses to accept that, and embarks on a one man rescue mission - a quest, if you will - to get Bucky back. Armed with a wooden shield, the shape of which bears a similarity to a lyre, overcomes numerous obstacles, fighting Hydra goons and even Red Skull, who looks like the devil incarnate. Steve manages to free Bucky and even jumps over what strongly resembles the fiery pits of hell to get to freedom, only to lose Bucky again a short while later, when Bucky tragically falls from a train and is subsumed once more into the Underworld, i.e. Hydra’s claws.
Aside from the many narrative parallels, many visual parallels also exist between depictions of Orpheus and Eurydice in classical art and various scenes and images in CA:TFA. The moodboard above attempts to illustrate these parallels and similarities.

There are some ships that you just know would be 100% canon if they were an M/F ship, and that's mainly what pisses people off the most in these situations.
It isn't just about the ship; it's also very much about the homophobia (whether the creators know it or not) that is preventing the ship from being canon when they otherwise would be.
(Addition.)

before we had the poolverine honda oddesy fight we had the stucky knife fight (the one from captain america winter soilder)
1. wade and logan don't hold back becuse neither of them can die. it's a freeing feeling, being able to beat the living shit out of each other. steve and bucky (rather, captain america and the winter soilder) don't hold back becuse that's how they were taught to fight in hand to hand combat; quick, efficent, brutal. there is no point messing around when a war is to be fought and you are a super-soilder. it's filled eith a desperation- just stay alive, just stay alive thrumming through their veins.
2. most everyone on this site KNOWS that the oddesy fight was filled with emotion in a pretty obvouis metaphor for gay sex. I raise that the stucky knife scene fight, as seen in Captian america and the winter soilder is also Filled with emotion in a metaphor for a gay relationship. you see, in the first part of the fight, before the mask comes off, steve is fighting to protect his frenids, sam and nat. He can stall time by trading blows with the winter soilder if it means that his frenids are safe (as much as they can be) and formulating a plan. His fatal flaw (in a greek myth way) would be loyalty. But once the Mask comes off, and bucky's face is reveled, you can feel his intentions change. I get the same feeling as when steve looks at a picture of peggy carter; a pregnant pause and sense of regret. Then, Nat shoots a balistic missile at the winter soilder, and the PAIN! IN! HIS! FACE! He immeadly looks to see if bucky is okay!! and he's just gone!!! A shift in loyalty becuse of a long lost first love... sigh
for comparison, here's the fight i'm talking about:

So, I did a thing. My first time ever trying to make a Stucky collage. I did one for Steve and one for Bucky, and then I took each of those and inserted them into an overall Stucky collage. So, uh, here's those...if you want to use 'em. Credits to artists/writers at the end of the post! 😁

This phrase sprouted in my head while half asleep last night about prewar Stucky:
Sometimes, behind closed doors, Bucky was…a little too sweet to Steve.

Am I allowed to post ao3 screenshots of a conversation that took place in 2014, about a stucky fic?
I don’t know. Am I going to? Yes.

I can’t remember reading this fic. I do remember reading this text chain and regaining my faith in humanity. (Note: hadn’t been sleeping for a couple of days)

I would like to gladly and proudly announce to the What If writers thinking they did something with their "We never get our happy ending" Steggy line that Stucky did it first. In 2017. In Marvel Future Avengers. When Bucky tells Steve "Looks like we're not gonna get our happy ending." Thank you for your time
