Holiday Classics

Been thinking about Ford watching the 70s Animated Lord of the Rings Movies... (companion comic to this post!)

#the other two VHS tapes Fidd's is holding are Rankin-Bass' The Hobbit (1977) and Return of the King (1980)! The 70s animated pseudo-trilogy!#A lot of people pointed out on my other lotr 'crossover' post that Ford would have seen the 70s movies!#And i wont lie i entirely forgot they existed. But now i remember i have so many feelings on it okay. Ford my silly LOTR nerd #I dont think he would have seen Bashkis in theaters. far as I can tell it was a VERY limited (likely mostly CA) run in the middle of winter #but Rankin-Bass'? Aired on NBC & ABC. He absolutely woulda watched them or rented a VHS later. Which is why he's most excited by Bashki's #He's just such a nerd. I need him to nerd out. everyone keeps going wow i can't believe mumbo is so suspicious of the two most loyal life series members but you also have to remember his life series experience so far has been grian threatening and then succeeding to kill him while the southlanders fall apart and then dying to lava while butlering for grian and falling off a cliff because he was upset about a tower building contest that grian had a hand in and then dying to the warden that grian and etho brought to the surface. so like. he's not had the best track record

i feel like some people are missing the point of these "deaths" a little. like i know the previous arc's death baits don't help my point but i really don't think anyone is suppose to read the ADA deaths as permanent .. especially since fyodor and atsushi don't even do that. they both acknowledge the page and how to can undo everything. the point isn't for this to be the end of these characters stories but to use them show how 1) atsushi handles the intense trauma and stress of watching his family die in front of him and the pressure on him to get the page and undo it and 2) see how atsushi handles this situation since this is one of the few times he is completely on his own with no assistance, no plans and no fall back options.

now obviously i know akutagawa will likely get back into the fight too because of the s5 ending but id still say a lot of this is very reliant on atsushi since this isn't the same akutagawa he knows.

i mean, fukuzawa literally says this

i know many people aren't enjoying this arc, they want skk back, they want back smaller scale conflicts, they want the ADA dynamics back, but people have also wanted atsushi to take back his place as the MC and this is setting up such a perfect opportunity to show atsushi's strength.
