@epickiya722 (ask box is still bugged over here and tumblr isn't responding still to my email about it).
Honestly, same- I don't see Uma and Audrey as bad guys- and it pisses me off they either seen as that or just generally made to be like that when they our two dark-skinned girls in a cast of diverse characters versus the stories always focusing on Mal, one of the white characters- and honestly yeah, Uma needs some love for once as all shes gotten in these movies is shit talk and being made out to be the bad guy and most likely kissing Mal's feet in D3 and like the other VKs on the Isle- if Disney even recalls the first films message of not being born evil and being children- was most likely abused- again if Disney covers abuse finally in these movies instead of just implying it- though at least we got Harry Hook being us when it comes to Uma, aka worshipping her and adoring her.
As for Audrey, honestly it feels like Disney didn't like her from the start- in D1 shes dragged down by Mal to cheer up Evie, shes made out to be in the wrong for worrying about fashion and her liking pink seemed to be apart of it too and now in D3 shes looking to be the villain- as much as I think its going to be possession, im still uncomfortable with the idea of body possession, especially as again, one of our WOCs- like.....its like the movie makers cant be bothered with her and in order to make Mal look good, they make her into the bad guy and don't give her any love as a result.
Tbh I wouldn't mind insight on Jay and Carlos- ESPECIALLY JAY, seriously, outside of D1 do we know what hes even up to besides being with the VKs and sports?- also cause Carlos I feel could help with the Isle more then Mal, especially as he knows what those isle kids would be feeling like, being constantly hurt in the name of revenge on heroes- but as for Harry and Gil, so far D3 promotional is forgetting they exist as Uma got stuck onto Mal's crew- seriously that's giving me the hives, WHERES UMAS CREW- but Harry I hope we see more of him, especially with Uma- and give Gil more lines at least as he didn't have many in D3- and Dizzy, dear god, I pray shes off the Isle in D3 cause for some reason in Under the Sea, she was back on it despite leaving at the end of D2- also again, praying she has character outside of fashion and probably supporting Mal too- and of course, with our new VK, Celia- RIP Freddy- I pray she gets development and isn't just shoved in there cause Disney felt like adding more characters for no reason.
I'll get to Ben soon, but as for Chad, Jane, Doug and Lonnie? Yeah, they need a bit more for them at this point- so far Janes just had zero almost in D2 outside of romance, while Lonnie kinda got something- im still confused by the no-girls rule even existing when MULAN exists- but got paired off with Jay at random at the end cause Audrey wasn't in D2- but again, needs more development on her own turf- Doug needs 101% development already cause we're had stalker joke in D1 and him acting clingy in D2....just, at least make him and Evie stand out by the end of this- and Chad.....as much as I don't really care for him, I still feel like he got the worst of character development, hes either a joke or hes maybe implying he wants to be king and it goes nowhere- he still needs to develop or at least get a better hairstyle.
And now for Ben....dear god, he and his parents are plot points at this point- D1: brings the VKs over, gets love-spelled, turns out he likes Mal anyway cause screw Audrey apparently- still pissed about her treatment in this Bal BS- and then in D2, gets screwed over a lot as how dare he be pissed Mal is lying to him and trying to spell him and then dude in distress, spelled again- though I found it funny we meant to pity Mal here but not Audrey in D1, just, really 'funny'- and then splits up a fight between Uma and Mal....but given no credit as his dad says, "How about that son of ours" only for Belle to make it about Mal- come on at least give him his parents plot- and....that's it- feels like the plot was done with him the moment he got the VKs over- as hes not even in D3 promotional material yet while Mal, who note isn't even queen yet, has future queen material already while the actual king of auradon has nothing- just, it feels so wrong really- boy is nothing but Mal's plot point despite having hints at even going beast- let him please, PLEASE- and honestly, D3 so far is giving him nothing yet either despite being the founder of the VK program- just....I can go on about Ben for ages really, lmao.
So in the long run, Disney probably does forget they exist unless they can drag them out for the Mal plots, lmao- so guess press f to pay respects for any love they deserve or any character or plot they could have had.

Here’s to Us scene - Rotten Four looking out at the Isle
"Happy anniversary, guys!" Evie bid and passed around fancy sodas in glass bottles to Mal, Jay, and Carlos as they kicked off their shoes and headed down towards the beach. Emily cooed from the baby backpack Evie wore. This wasn't their usual spot since Mal's guards had insisted on a secluded area, but the Isle of the Lost was still visible, out over the waves. The flickering barrier was covered in green clouds.
Jay twisted the lid off his soda. "Well," he raised it into the air. "Here's to a celebration of not being dead."
"Amen to that," Mal said, toasting her still-closed bottle as well.
Carlos twisted the top and the cap exploded off with the force of a toy rocket. Sugary spray rained down on Mal's face and clothes while the cap flew away to land with a plop in the ocean.
"Whoops. Must have tipped in the car," Evie said while Jay and Mal laughed.
Carlos laid out a blanket for them all to sit on and Jay carefully arranged his offering of potato chips out in the center. Carlos had brought sandwiches and Mal had prepared some cookies for them all to share. Evie pulled Emily out of her carrier and set her upright on the blanket, where she swayed, but managed to stay sitting.
"Look at you!" Mal cheered. "You're so big, you can sit up now!"
Emily began to wail. She didn't know Mal and apparently didn't like the stranger anymore. Evie sighed and rolled her eyes. "Princess, you're a handful."
"I'm not a handful, mom," Jay whined for Emily and leaned over to pick her up. "Take it back, take it back, take it back." He laid Emily's stomach across one hand and flew her towards Evie's face. Emily laughed and slobbered all over Evie's leg.
Evie took the baby back with an eye roll. "Sure you aren't, sweetheart." She sat her up in her lap and looked out at the barrier. "How many more kids are out there, Mal?"
"Not many," Mal said. "The ones who didn't want to come… the ones too little to come. But the place is different now. Ben and I have put up new buildings and stuff over the years. Mostly back before I was queen."
"Why did we want you to become queen, again?" Jay asked. "Life was easier when you saw Ben for two hours a week and we only saw the guards coming into the palace."
"I think Ben should quit," Mal announced. "That's my solution." She popped the top on her soda and took a long drink. Everyone chuckled.
"If only, right?" Carlos rolled his eyes.
"Sixteen more years," Evie said.
Jay looked out over the water and began to slowly unwrap a sandwich. "I know I said it like a joke, but every time we come out here I just feel like… wow. I mean, 'Wow, I didn't die out there'."
"Oh," Mal said. "For me, it's just 'Wow, I'm still alive.'"
"That's everywhere," Evie said. "I know what you mean, Jay. Just looking out and wondering "what if I hadn't come off the Isle alive?" Or if one of you…" She trailed off, looking sad. Emily hiccupped and tipped over, where she began to writhe. Evie set her on the warm sand.
"My mother could have killed me," Carlos said. "I almost didn't make it over here."
Mal stayed quiet. Sure, she related. Her mother could have finished her off as a baby and she'd never have known any of them, never have become queen, wouldn't have the chance to stare at the Isle and ponder her life's fragility. But it was hard to look at death as a possibility of the past when she'd come to terms that, at any point, there could be someone around her trying to kill her. Uma… the Freemen… anyone.
She held the glass up to the light. "Well, I just want you all to know that I'm glad we get to be here together. That… things worked out and we all stayed alive."
"Especially you," Jay whispered.
"Especially Carlos," Mal deflected his concern. "He had the worst mom out of all of us."
"Well…" Jay rolled his eyes.
"Didn't your mom throw you out the window once?" Evie asked Mal.
"Oh, is that all?" Carlos scoffed. They all laughed. Emily rolled onto her stomach on the sand and began trying to swim on top of the grains to get back to her mom. Mal pointed at her goddaughter.
"To be honest, she throws me off the most," she said. "Because… if I had died on the Isle… I don't know… maybe Ben and Audrey would have worked out."
Jay spat his soda out to the side as he laughed.
"But," Mal continued, gesturing to Emily. "If… anything had happened to Evie on the Isle… she wouldn't exist. She's like… an object permanence complex to me. The fact Emily exists just blows my mind when I think about everything that happened over there."
"Me too." Evie picked the baby back up and kissed her head. She looked down and smiled. "If I give you to Aunt Mal, will you still be a squirt? Or will you be nice to her?"
Mal held her hands out, but low. Evie swung Emily's legs over and let Emily lean against Mal's leg. Emily leaned her head back and stared at Mal, eyes wide. Mal smiled. "You know me, right?" She pinched a lock of her hair and held it towards Emily. "Remember?"
Emily took the hair and tugged softly, but her eyes still had that lost look.
"Oh, I know," Mal said and reached for her phone. She turned it on to show Emily the screensaver of her and Ben. "You know Ben, right? You like Ben."
Immediately, Emily smiled. "Eiy!" she screeched and slapped Mal's phone out of her hand.
"Whoops!" Mal picked it back up to show her again and Emily slowly grabbed the side of the device to gaze at Ben. Then she cooed and dropped her open mouth onto Mal's pant leg, where she began to slobber up the material until Evie sighed and pulled her off.
"Professional Slimer, here," Evie said, offering Mal a wet wipe. "Sorry about that."
"No problem." Mal brushed Emily's hair down. "If I have a boy, we should set them up and she can be queen."
"Shot at every other week," Jay remarked.
"Pass." Evie hugged her baby. "If Lonnie has a boy though, we'll consider it."
Mal groaned. "Come on, E. I'm just trying to get out of my job!"
They all laughed again and Carlos raised his amber glass to the bottle-green barrier. "Well, here's to never going back."
"That is a motion I can get behind," Evie said. They clinked their glasses together and laid back in the sun to watch the waves.

Being a part of the Core VK's, and daughter to Hades
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Relationships with the Core Four:
You and Mal are half sisters - same dad, different moms. Mal hated you for a long time, even when she had yet to meet you, she knew of you and that made her blood absolutely boil. You were the daughter Hades raised, while he just left her and her mother. You both eventually get along, and once you do, you're inseparable, as thick as thieves, partners in crime, the works.
Evie thinks you're cool. She doesn't have a problem with you- then again I don't think she has a problem with anyone really. She likes your style, she wouldn't wear it, but she likes it because you work it and make it look good. She gets to know you more when you and Mal start hanging out and she kinda becomes like your sister as well.
Jay thinks you're awesome. He witnessed your hair burst into flames one day when someone pissed you off, trying to steal something your rightfully *coughcough* found. Definitely asked you about your powers and wondered why you could still use magic. It was kinda hard to explain, but basically on the island you can only do a few things - all of which require direct contact. Lounging/parkour buddy.
Okay, but please tell me why the thought of harmless, got bullied a lot, soft boy Carlos/intimidating, protective Daughter of Hades, just makes me melt. Like, you save his ass a lot. You knew Carlos before you knew the rest of the core four - back when it was Mal and Jay, Evie did her own thing, and Carlos was just kinda left to fend for himself. It's okay though, you'll protect him.
Background:
No one knows who your mother is
Not you
Not Mal
Not even Maleficent
Hades doesn't like to talk about her
She died before you had the ability to retain memories
She wasn't the first or the last of the people that were claimed by the terrible conditions of the Island of the Lost.
Medical care wasn't exactly top notch, and no one really cared about the ones who passed the first few years.
Just ment more supplies for the rest of them
You weren't allowed to wander the isle as a child, he kept you locked away - worried Maleficent might try something (and worried that if anyone found out about you being his daughter, they would have something over his head).
It was thanks to Hades tucking you away, that Maleficent was never able to find you.
You started sneaking out when you turned 10
You proved you could handle yourself, so Hades let you run free.
Besides 10 years had passed since you were born and he figured maybe Maleficent didn't care about you anymore.
It took you and Mal a while to trust eachother.
When you trusted her enough, you told her about your dad.
She didn't say anything and just left you - she was so angry and conflicted, on one hand she wanted to hate you because you were the child Hades' stuck around for, the one he raised, and fathered, and protected from Maleficent.
After a few weeks she found you in your own little corner if the island you carved for yourself, and explained everything.
Suprise, you're sisters!
Evie knows you're sisters
To be honest, you could be leader of their group, and also could be considered one of the most problematic kids on the Island, but you're too laid back.
You could go out of your way to cause trouble and make life on the island even more miserable than it already is.
But that takes too much effort.
Uma and Harry have no beef with you other than the fact that you're Mal's friend.
They try to get you to join their crew almost daily.
"Nah, you guys are good at what you do without me."
You're welcome at Ursula's fish and chips any time.
Uma doesn't even find your rejection insulting, you're just. So chill?
Her crew has rules, training, errands to run, collecting protection fees, and helping her at her mother's restuarant.
No thanks
Too much work
You like Mal's mom's way of doing things, "When you're evil, doing less is doing more."
Mal's crew just kinda hangs out together and roams the island being cats basically - lounging and loitering where you're not supposed to, subtly stealing things, knocking things over, just chilling and having fun doing whatever you want.
Your kinda crew.
Storyline:
When they go to Auradon, they take you with them
You weren't invited because again - no one knows who your parents are.
But you guys are kinda a package deal.
Ben was all for it when they called him.
"The more the merrier!"
He thought it was just an early sign that this was a great idea and he was making a difference.
You dont get to say bye to your dad because it was a very last minute thing.
You just kinda disappear.
But to be honest he's used to you just not showing up for weeks or even months at a time.
It's the reason why you were able to keep who your father is a secret for so long.
You come out the limo looking as cool as a cucumber, with your arms crossed as you stand next to Mal.
Tumblr media
"This is more than you said there would be!" Fairy Godmother is not so subtly whisper-yelling at Ben.
"They wouldn't come without her- it was all of them, or none of them."
"Well maybe that should have been a sign, Benny-boo!"
"You know we can still hear you," you say while purposely chewing your gum in an obnoxious manner, just to get on their nerves.
They're already getting on yours.
In all seriousness, you whisper a, "Just say the word and she's toast," to Mal.
Screw Audrey.
Of course they split you all up for the most part.
They're worried if they put all the VK's together in one class, it may be too much for the teachers to handle.
They're not wrong.
To be honest though, you're a handful all on your own.
Your teachers wonder how things managed to burst into flames for no apparent reason all through out class.
Some jerks thought it would be okay to pick on Carlos when Jay isn't around him.
For some reason they think that just because your a girl, you're weak?
Must be the stupid "princely boy needs to save the day" mentality that runs rampant in Auradon.
You set someone's hair on fire.
And someone else duffle bag.
This would probably be a good time to mention that the VK's already know you can conjure fire.
They just think that your parent/parents are witches and you just have an affinity for fire.
Carlos normally either sticks to you or Jay when he isn't practicing with Ben.
You dont see your fathers statue in the hall of villains when you guys break into the museum - mostly because he's in another hall completely.
There's a whole hall dedicated to God's and goddesses as well as Hercules story.
You dont bother to offer up your powers when you're escaping, you know Mal's got it covered.
Helping Mal bake love potion cookies.
While the others are doing this because their parents would have their necks, you're genuinely doing this for your father. You know all he wants is to get off the island.
Causing a small lawn fire when the Sleeping Beauty's family and Chad get in Mal's face.
Your bursted into blue flames when Maleficent crashed Ben's coronation.
Tumblr media
Having Mal's back after she was announced to become a new Lady of the Court.
Honestly you dont know what the big deal is about Mal using her magic.
Of course you go with Evie, Ben, Carlos, and Jay when they go to the isle to get Mal.
When Evie goes to talk to Mal you go visit your father.
He's a bit upset with you because he's seen you on TV so he knows you left.
But he can understand you not wanting to be trapped on this island forever.
"I'll find a way to get you out, soon."
"Say 'hello' to Mal for me"
Of course you couldn't.
Harry flirting with you and trying to recruit you again when he snags Ben.
When the battle at the docks ensues, you dont need a sword to fight.
Like Hades with his Ember, and like Mal and her Mother with their eyes, you dont need magic to use your flames because they are a part of you.
Sure the island managed to hold you back, but you can bring just enough to the surface to make any sword you grab on to too hot to handle.
Your powers are useless against Uma when she crashes cotillion.
You know, being surrounded by water and all.
"See ya, Y/N."
"See ya, Uma."
Surprisingly hard for you to make enemies
Except for Audry you know.
Of course you are Mal's planned maid of honor for her wedding.
Evue already has a dress made for you, and it was super hard for her not to gush to Mal about it because that would have given away the suprise.
You pretending to be defenceless against Hades when you all go to pick up the next chosen VK's to come to Auradon.
You keep your flames concealed of course because this would be a terrible time to show that both you and Hades share the same flaming blue hair.
You honestly surprised no one put two and two together sooner.
Definitely not there for the meeting where Mal decides to close the barrier for good.
But you were there for when Mal told Evie.
You were also the first to figure out Mal was hiding something. She wouldn't tell you right out though, but you knew something was up because that pause to answer Evie was too long.
Going back to the isle with the others to get Hades ember after Audrey turn Mal old.
"Hey girls~" was the greeting you both got from Hades when Mal tried to grab his Ember.
"Long time no see, Y/N."
Mal just glares at him.
You sit on the table where the Ember was while you let Mal and Hades have their little musical number. Mal kinda let her anger come through.
"Hey!" You would not be dragged into this, thank you.
You went to stand next to Mal when she asked for the Ember one final time and looked at your father with a shit eating grin, because you know deep down he won't say no to his girls.
"The Ember won't work for you."
"Yes it will. We're blood."
"You're only half Hades."
"Well then I guess two halves make a whole, right?"
"Those are my girls~"
Tumblr media
You, Mal, and Uma joining together to break Audrey's attempt to keep you guys trapped in the cabin.
Helping Evie be the peace keeper when you all battle the suits of armor in Ben's castle.
You chase after Uma and Harry when Mal breaks the news about the barrier.
Which means you didn't get turned to stone.
Helping Uma reignite the Ember so Mal can take on Audrey.
Telling Mal you want to go back to the Isle along with Uma, Harry, Gil, and Celiea.
She's heart broken because you're her sister and it was kinda supposed to be you both against the world.
You can't turn your back on the kids from the isle. Like Mal, so many of the younger ones look up to you. On top of that you also can't imagine not ever seeing your dad again.
She understands, and when Hades comes to wake up Audrey, you go back to the Isle with your father.
You finally agree to join Uma's crew when you return.
Shes happy but also let's you know shes sorry you had to leave your sister.
You're hanging out with your new crew at the Fish and Chips when it's almost time for Mal to announce that they will be closing the Barrier forever.
You, Uma, Gil, and Harry are huddles up together around the TV.
But when Mal announces they will be opening the barrier for good you all cheer and you run to go get your dad.
Yay big family reunion!

Who is better in your opinion? Willa or Uma?
Oooh. This is a hard question. I love them both so much, I don’t have an easy answer for this. So I’ll look at it from a few different angles and tell you which is better (in my opinion) from there.
If anyone has anything to add, ask, or debate about this, I’m open to discussion.
Angle 1: Canon writing in introduction movie (Descendants 2 vs. ZOMBIES 2)
First “angle” is the character writing (motivation, etc.) in their intro movie. I’m not counting D3 in this.
Uma’s original motive was anger at being forgotten on the Isle, mixed with a desire for vengeance against Mal and a will to harm Auradon. I know the fandom has latched onto her “free the Isle kids” point more than the others. She wanted the wand to free her crew and and the Isle and destroy Auradon.
Willa’s writing in Z2 however showed that she didn’t want to hurt humans particularly, she just wanted to find the moonstone and help her pack. We’re sorta left to assume that if the wolf pack found the moonstone without the humans help, the pack would have just taken it back to the forest and probably not bothered Seabrook ever again. They didn’t exactly like the place or show a desire to hurt the humans or Zombies unless said intruders stood between them and the moonstone.
In this angle, Willa definitely came off in the more favorable light. So (sorry Uma) but in this part, I think I preferred Willa here. To be fair: Disney’s half-assed writing was all over in D2, so Uma didn’t get the justice she deserved there, but seems they learned from that with Z2.
Angle 2: Character design
It took me a while to warm up to Uma’s design, although that’s mostly because the first looks we ever get of her were her sitting with Harry and Gil, so her hair combined with her dress just looked like strings to me. Not the best way to show off her design. Also wouldn’t such long hair get in the way during fights? In later promos we see her in movement and her look definitely looked better to me, but still more stylized “VK” more than “practical pirate captain.” I mostly put that down to the costume department really starting to fall down on the job in this movie. Her Cotillion dress was gorgeous, though.
Willa’s first promo showed her standing, posed, perfectly showing off her look. My initial reaction was, once again, very “meh.” I still wasn’t sure what to think of the Werewolves at the time. Fur and claw-marks were obviously the cliché for such a type of character. I’m not sure I actually warmed up to Willa’s style much in the movie, though - throughout her variety of outfits, the only one that actually sticks with me is her Prawn dress, and even then, it’s not all that memorable.
In this part, Uma definitely came off better. Her dress showed up better in the movie than in any of the promos, and the small variations on her main look that we got - jacket on, jacket off, added pants for “It’s Goin’ Down” - made it memorable. And her Cotillion dress was so amazing. Willa’s outfits all melded together and weren’t exactly memorable. (I’m not talking about D3 in this part either.)
Angle 3: Relationship to main protagonist and co.
One of Uma’s original motivations is vengeance against Mal for Mal’s terrible behavior in the past. This continues through D2 and even in D3. It got boring quickly in the third movie, being the source of much useless bickering between Mal and Uma (though Mal, of course, was never any help.) Mal and Uma’s rivalry seemed to be a focal point of the third movie, only to get resolved for no reason at the end, just because Uma forgives Mal after defeating Audrey, for some reason I still have yet to understand.
Willa’s initial reaction to Addison is hostility and disbelief, because Addison is human but has the trademark white hair of the legendary Great Alpha. While Willa is wary of Addison, she still allows Addison to come to the wolf den and seems to let Wyatt hope that she’s the Great Alpha. She trusts Addison enough to allow her to hold onto the Great Alpha moonstone necklace, and looks visibly betrayed and angry when it seems Addison has “lost” it. But after Addison and the others aide the wolf pack in “Flesh and Bone,” Willa seems to renew her trust in Addison, and even gives her the Great Alpha moonstone necklace in the end, after the moonstone has been found.
Overall, I found that Willa had a much more believable “grow to trust the protagonist” arc than Uma did. Mal spent much of her time antagonizing Uma and yet Uma somehow changes her mind about Mal after one good deed that hardly even concerns Uma except for the danger to Celia; meanwhile Addison expressed mostly open-mindedness and a will to learn and help, and while Willa mistrusts non-pack characters, she eventually sees that Addison does want to help and trusts her in the end. When it comes to this aspect of the writing, Willa is the winner here. I’m still angry at the D3 writers for a lot, but mostly their writing of Uma.
Much of this is how I came to make this post.
Angle 4: Original marketing
Let’s be honest, the original TV promos for all the VKs+Ben in D2 were crap. Just them posing and spinning around in a room that looked like a Home Depot basement. It was very underwhelming and it did not make for a good first impression for Uma, Harry, and Gil. I fondly nicknamed them “The Three Villainous Stooges” at least until we had a promo that expressed their actual competence and capabilities, when I promptly dropped that name.
The first TV promo I can recall for Willa was the one where she and the other Werewolves enter the cafeteria and saunter along to some song I don’t even remember. While it was much better than the original D2 promos, it did very little to express Willa’s capabilities either, aside from making it clear she was in command of the pack and was not to be messed with.
In this aspect, I think Willa and Uma tie for this. They both got useless and stupid first promos. Both of them turned out to be awesome and amazing characters because of this. A solid tie.
Angle 5: Current fate
Even including the whole Moonstone Mystery nonsense, so far, Willa is still residing with her pack in the forest, attending Seabrook High School, and friends with Addison and the others. Addison has earned Willa’s trust through hard work and just earnest attempts to help.
As of the end of D3 (and with no mention of Uma in any of the Royal Wedding shorts) Uma is freed from the Isle after apparently forgiving Mal for no reason, and canon says absolutely nothing else about her. Mal earned Uma’s friendship through... lying to her, betraying her, and pleading with her for her help, apparently, and then saving Celia.
Sorry Uma, Willa wins here again.
-
I love both of these characters so much, but when it comes to canon writing, Willa really got the better end of the stick. However, I definitely love Uma, she has so much potential as so much more than being forced to be Mal’s friend (and that’s what fanfics are for!)
Thank you for the ask!

Commission - Harry Hook x reader -Forget me not
Tumblr media Tumblr media
commission from @musicarose
For the Oneshot is the Reader the sister of Mal and the girlfriend of Harry Hook. Reader doesn't want to go to Auradon because of Harry. Mal enchants her sister so that she forgets Harry and comes to Auradon. Later Mal and the others don´t tell her the truth about Harry either. Harry and Reader meets again and he's pretty angry with her When Harry realizes that she can't remember him, he tries to release the curse.
“and you assume I want to go why?” you muttered, brushing your lilac hair back, scowling at your sister and mother.
“(y/n), dear, my little devil” your mother ‘cooed’, reaching out and tracing her finger down your cheek “this is a huge opportunity! Why, in only a day's time, you could be ruling the world alongside me and your sister~!” you rolled your eyes, standing from your seat and pushing past your mother.
“yeah not my thing, ill just stay here while malsy goes to do your dirty work~” you cheered in a falsetto, stepping behind your sister and patting her shoulders.
Your mother's face settled into a scowl “this is because of that pirate boy, isn’t it? Now (y/n) you have no room for love in your life” her eyes glowed green, trying to intimidate you.
But, unlike mal, you weren’t afraid of your mother. You sighed, turning and walking out of the castle.
“(y/n)~” your mother cooed, you paused, you didn’t like the tone in her voice “if you don’t go~ I’ll have the goons take care of harry~”
Your heart froze, images of harry being drowned, hurt, killed by your mother's goons set a fire off in your eyes.
You snarled, turning back around and letting your magic flow, your eyes glowing (e/c) “don’t you fucking dare”
Your mother smirked, and you were reminded of who your mother was, the mistress of all evil, the woman-no FAE who was willing to kill your love just to get you to cooperate.
“then you will go to auradon, nick that wand and free me, is that understood?” she cooed in a ‘sweet’ voice, one that made you want to punch her.
“ugg” you groaned “yes, fine”
“I win~” she cheered, walking back inside the castle, you shook your head, racing off towards the docks.
Mal glared at your disappearing form “now Mal~” she turned, seeing her mother holding her spellbook “I have another task for you” maleficent opened the book, showing Mal a certain page.
The Enchantment of Forgetfulness

“Harry im sorry” you pleaded, gripping onto his jacket sleeve “shes forcing me, she said she would kill you if I didn’t go, im doing this for us!” Harry huffed, falling back into a chair, rubbing his face.
“I understand lass” he muttered, peaking up at you “I just don’ wan’ ye the go” you sniffed, kneeling down in front of him.
“I don’t want to either, id rather stay here with you, or for you to come with me, but the invitation said only me, my sister, Evie, Jay, and Carlos.” Harry sighed, leaning forward to kiss your forehead.
“then promise ta come back fer me love” you smiled, leaning up to capture Harry's lips.
You pulled away, grabbing Harry's hands and gripping onto them tightly “I promise”
=
You gave a sad smile to Harry as you opened the door to the limo, mouthing ‘ill be back’ he gave a sad nod, waving you goodbye, Uma by his side, smirking at you and giving you a salute.
You slid into the limo, leaning back against the plush seats. Minutes later, your sister and her friends started screaming, Jay pulling you close and ducking you into Carlos’ side.
“hey!” Mal snapped, tapping the remote on the seat, grabbing the driver's attention “did-did this little button open the barrier?”
“no” he droned “that opens my garage, this-” he held up a golden remote, a single button in the middle- “opens the magic barrier and this~.” He pressed a button above him, closing the black sliding barrier, blocking him from our site.
“huh,” Mal smirked, tapping her remote on her palm “nasty I like that guy~” you rolled your eyes, turning your head slightly, looking at the slowly disappearing docks.
“Hey (y/n), mom said to do one more thing” you hummed, not taking your eyes off hooks ship.
Thoughts, beliefs, ideas, truths, images
You froze, you knew those words, after being bored and flipping through your mother's book “Mal wha-“ you couldn’t move, jay looking sad and guilty, Carlos leaning forward and hugging your waist, Evie was pale, reaching out to Mal, seemingly try to stop her.
All of these you hold onto tightly
What I now mention, you will release.
Harry Hook
The world went black, as Harry's face disappeared from your memories, his voice, his laughter, his smile.
Your promise.
=
You ducked behind a pillar with jane, watching Audrey with your mother’s scepter spread a pink smoke around. A sleeping spell, you looked to jane, nodding at the lake, she smiled, sneaking into the water and wading out to a deeper part of the lake.
You cast a shield around you, kneeling behind the pillar, keeping out of Audrey and Chad's sight. As the smoke passed over you watched as Audrey disappeared, the green/pink glow of the scepter taunting you.
You were going to kill mal for the bullshit she put you in.
You sighed in relief as Jane popped up, you speed-walked over to help her out of the lake, squinting as when the water touched your skin it felt…weird…like it was trying to wash off an enchantment.
But that was impossible, as you had no enchantments placed on you? You shook it off, casting a quick dry spell on jane, jogging up to catch her as she walked away from the lake, talking to ben on her phone.
“no ben stay were you are! Audrey has the scepter and put everyone to sleep! Im going to find mom!” she hung up, nodding to you and leading you into the forest.
Sooner or later, you ran into jay and Carlos, two other boys, and…a huge hairy…beast?
You sighed, cracking your neck and letting magic build up in your palms, sending a lilac energy blast at the beast, it screeched turning to you.
You knew those eyes “ben” you muttered, dodging as he leaped toward you, creating a shield and surrounding him, yelling to jane-
“dose him!”
She nodded, spraying him with a water gun she had filled his enchanted lake water, ben shrunk, the fur disappearing…mostly.
You smirked, lowering the shield, snorting and Jay walked up and helped Ben over to a log.
“(y/n)?” a new voice muttered, it was thick Scottish, a male obviously, and it seemed like he knew you? You turned, seeing a….really handsome dude holy shit?
You tilted your head, looking at him up and down “do I know you?”
He had a look of betrayal “yeh….wha’ it's me! Harry, don’t act like yeh don’t know meh!” what started as a broken voice delved into anger, his face flushing red and hurt in his eyes.
“We spent years together, and then you go to the classy princely stuck upland of bore-adon, and yeh decide to just forget all about me! Yeh PROMISED!” He screamed, tears lining his eyes.
The blond boy, Gil gastons son, pulled the dark-haired boy back, looking down at the ground in sadness “i-im sorry” you stuttered, holding up your hands, backing away slightly “I don’t know who you are, really!”
“she really doesn’t dude” Carlos spoke up, a sad look on his face, Harry glared at him, confused.
“what do yeh mean pup” he growled, trying to wrestle out of Gil’s grip.
“as soon as we exited the barrier, Mal used a memory spell on her….to make her forget you, Maleficent ordered her to”
Harry dropped to his knees, a tear trailing down his face “wha-“ his voice cracked, looking over to you, who was rubbing your hand where the enchanted lake water had hit you earlier.
“Mal” Harrys voice set in a  growl “Mal did this, Mal-Im going teh kill ‘er” you blinked, you had never met him, or so you thought, but he seemed to have a deep…care? For you.
“well,” Jay spoke up “that will have to be after all this mess Mal, Uma, and Evie are waiting for us at the castle, we need to get there fast”
Ben nodded, looking between you and harry, he could see in Harry's eyes, that he cared deeply about you, maybe even loved.
You glanced at harry as you passed by him, you could feel a soft stinging in your heart…something inside was telling you to just jump into his arms and kiss him senseless.
But what would be weird, so you didn’t?
=
You sighed, Audrey was defeated, and your sister had finally admitted to the memory enchantment she had placed upon you when you originally left the isle.
Harry sat on the other side of the hallway you were in, playing with the silver hook he always held.
“so” you started, harry sitting up straight and eagerly looking to you “mal placed a memory spell on me, in which she removed all my memories og you, which apparently we were together and I promised to return to the isle for you…im sorry” you finished, Harry shook his head.
“no no no lassie” he stood, crossing the floor and kneeling in front of you “its not yer fault, mal idd this ta you, you ‘ave nothing to be sorry fer” you smiled, reaching out and cupping his cheek
“you're so sweet…how did I ever let mal make me forget you” you mumbled, giggling as Harry kissed your palm.
“lass?” Harry asked, looking up at you through his lashes, his ocean blue eyes sparkling.
You tilted your head, nodding “yeah?”
“can” harry stuttered, swallowing harshly “can I kiss yeh? I wanna try somethin’” you bit your lip, millions of possibilities going through your mind.
“yes” you whispered, gasping as Harry leaned upward and passionately pressed his lips to yours.
A pressure released a flurry of pictures, voices, feelings, came rushing back.
Harry…your Harry! You let out a loose sob, Harry pulling back, looking alarmed “shit lass” he panicked, scrambling back, but before he could get too far you leaped at him, tackling him to the floor.
“(Y/n)?” he asked confused, wrapping his arms around you.
“Harry” you sobbed “my hooky!” Harry let out a loud burst of laughter
“yeh remember!” he sat up, sliding you into his lap and buried his face into your neck “yeh remember!!”
“I love you harry!” you pressed multiple kisses to his cheek, giggling as he kissed your neck.
“and I love you (y/n), so much”

The Problem with Mal (part 1/3)
Or, Framing and Why It’s Important
Let me get this out of the way right away: I love Descendants. I love DCOMs, I always have, and I love musical DCOMs even more. High School Musical and its sequels were my whole life growing up, and I can sing every word of every Camp Rock 2 song right now from memory (even though I didn’t like Camp Rock 1; don’t hate me.) But what I love even more than musical DCOMs is Disney Movies. Aladdin, Mulan, Hercules, these are some of my favorite movies from growing up, so combining Disney Movies with Disney Channel Original Movie/Musical? The most galaxy-brained idea imaginable from my point of view.
BUT.
I have a problem with the writing in Descendants. More specifically, I have a problem with Mal.
Quite frankly, I just don’t like Mal. I think she’s mean, and I think the movies would be better off if she wasn’t in them. If I completely turn my brain off and absorb the story the way I’m sure the writers want me to I could be fine with her, but the second I begin to think about any of her actions beyond the surface or the implications of those actions I remember why I don’t like her. I didn’t like her in the first movie, and that feeling has only grown exponentially with the release of every moment. All of that culminated in D3, where my Mal-hate has reached its peak. It has bubbled over, and I must release it somehow.
So what am I going to do with that? I’m going to write about it. Why? Mostly because my brother wouldn’t listen to me complain/rant about it and I had to put these emotions somewhere. Let’s do this.
DISCLAIMER(S)
1. This is literally a giant anti-Mal hate post. I’m going to try to keep this as even and fair as I can, but I’m not going to pretend like this is an unbiased assessment. If you are a Mal stan, this is the part when you click away.
2. I am by no means a literary or film analyst. I am technically a “writer”, but that’s about all the credentials I can provide. If you’re looking for actual academic discussion, you are going to be sorely disappointed.
3. This has nothing to do with Dove Cameron. I actually like Dove, I think she’s a talented actress and singer (rapping and dancing notwithstanding). I mean, I watched every single episode of Liv and Maddie when I was way past too old for that to be acceptable. Dove Cameron is probably a fine human being, I really appreciated what she said about the addition of politics into the Descendants universe, and I actually like her in the role, I just wish I liked the role itself. But I don’t want anyone to take this as an attack on her as a person or anything.
4. I read the Isle of the Lost when it first came out like a thousand years ago, and the Wikipedia synopsis for Rise of the Isle of the Lost. I also watched the first three or four episodes of Wicked World and I can’t remember a single thing that happened in them. With that said, this essay is ONLY about the movies. The movies should be (and are, I believe) able to stand on their own, and at this point, I’m not even sure if the tie-ins are considered canon anymore. With that said, there are some things from the tie-ins that are pretty much common knowledge among fandoms (Uma and Mal didn’t get along on the Isle because Mal was kind of a bully, the VKs’ parents were abusive, etc) that probably bled into this essay. If there’s something I wrote about that has been rendered noncanon by the movies please let me know. On the same track, please don’t comment saying that something from Wicked World explained/justified/whatever else a point that I make, because it’s not going to change my argument.
5. This is not, like, me passing judgment on Mal stans. I’m not saying that Mal stans are bad or dumb or whatever for liking her character. I don’t really expect this to change anyone’s mind about stanning Mal either. This is purely a cathartic exercise for myself that I decided to inflict on the world for some reason.
Okay, I think that’s about it. If you have any thoughts at all on this, please come talk to me about it! Agree, disagree, love it, hate it, I literally just want to talk to other descendants fans. Y’all ready to do this? I give you…
Part 1: Mal Alone
Let’s look at the series of actions and the motivations behind them for Mal’s character.
Descendants 1
Mal is chosen to go to Auradon; she is very reluctant.
Her mother demands that she steal the fairy godmother’s wand, Mal agrees.
Mal convinces the others to help her steal the wand; they break into the museum but fail to retrieve it.
Mal learns that positioning herself as Ben’s girlfriend will give her the best shot at retrieving the wand, she spells Ben into falling in love with her.
As all this is happening, Mal is gaining popularity at school for her ability to provide magically beautiful hairstyles.
On their first date, Mal begins to have actual feelings for Ben, she considers releasing him from the spell.
Audrey, her grandmother, and the other AKs bully Mal and the rest of the VKs, and Mal regains her faith in the plan. She also takes away Jane’s magical hair.
Mal concedes from the plan enough to decide to release Ben from the spell, but only after the coronation.
Mal considers stealing the wand; before she gets the chance, Jane does so and accidentally opens the barrier.
Mal takes the wand back from Jane to give to her mother, Ben convinces her not to.
Mal defeats her mother and remains by Ben’s side in Auradon.
Notice a theme here? Mal is characterized by two things, and essentially two things only: her ambition and her survivalist spirit. I should clarify that when I say ambition, I don’t necessarily mean in the traditional, politically power-hungry sense. Mal is an opportunist. Every decision she makes is done with the intention of securing a position for herself, and usually a high-ranking position.
She rules the island before coming to Auradon and is reluctant to leave that position of power when given the opportunity. When she arrives at Auradon, she becomes the school’s magically appointed hairstylist, first to seduce information out of Jane, and then because it gains her popularity within the school. Notice how as soon as this popularity is taken out of the equation, Mal disappears all of the beautiful hairstyles? Mal wasn’t sharing her magic for any kind, selfless reason, but because it could get her something, and as soon as she stopped being able to get something, she took them away.
Mal also finesses her way into the already-occupied spot of the second most powerful person in the kingdom. From there every decision she makes is an attempt to keep that spot. It could be argued that Mal displayed some selfless impulse when she decided to free Ben from her love spell, but even this comes second to herself. She tells him explicitly that the cupcake is for “later”, as in, after the coronation and after she and her mother have already taken over, and when he eats a bit anyway, she yells “No!” at him. Maybe she does feel something for Ben, but he still clearly comes second to herself.
Then in the finale, she chooses good, not because it’s the right thing to do, but because it “makes her happy”. Although this movie was marketed as “villain kids learning to be good,” among other things, Mal never actually learned this lesson. She is okay playing second fiddle to her mother for a little bit, but her pivotal moment of growth is ultimately her deciding that she’d rather be Ben’s number two, and there she remains.
Don’t believe me? Let’s look at the second movie.
Mal opens the movie trying to fit herself into the perfect princess/girlfriend role, which makes her unhappy.
On a date with Ben, she gets caught using magic and attempts to spell him into forgetting their argument.
Mal runs off from her date and away to the Isle. Once there, she immediately reverts to her villain self, even going so far as to dye her hair in a stunning bit of Disney subtlety.
While there, Uma, her old rival, kidnaps her boyfriend. She works to get him back but maintains that she will be staying on the Isle after he is safe.
Mal and Evie sing a beautiful song about how much they mean to each other, but it does not change her mind.
During the battle, Mal (apparently) changes her mind. She returns to the Isle with Ben and her friends but seems unhappy about it.
At the coronation, Mal again slips into her “perfect” persona, shown by her wearing Auradon’s colors.
Uma arrives at the coronation, having spelled Ben into falling in love with her. Mal is heartbroken and tries to leave.
She is stopped by Jane revealing Ben’s coronation gift to her, a stained-glass picture of her in her Isle colors.
Mal true-love’s-kisses Ben awake. She turns into a dragon and fights Uma. When she turns back, she is dressed in the gown depicted in the picture.
In this movie, too, Mal makes every decision with the intention of securing her personal standing. She dislikes being forced to play a part at the beginning of the movie, but she is willing to put up with it if it means getting to stay Ben’s girlfriend, even to the point of spelling her boyfriend who she claims to love. When she believes for a second that that option could be lost to her, she immediately retreats to the Isle, where she is guaranteed some measure of power.
When she arrives, however, she finds that someone has usurped her position on the Isle, and it is Uma, her old rival. When she discovers that Uma has kidnapped Ben, she tries everything to get him back. This, it could be said is an altruistic act, done out of love for another person, but even this is tarnished because she clearly does not love Ben enough to be with him. She makes that very clear over and over again. She even sings a whole song about how much she loves Evie but again, not enough to leave her position of power.
So if it’s not love, why else would she go through so much trouble to rescue Ben? Simple: she cannot allow her rival to get a leg up on her. Mal spends the rest of the movie after she discovers Uma is involved working to publicly undermine her. Why else would she agree to an arm-wrestling match of all things in front of Uma’s entire crew? When they leave the isle after rescuing Ben, Mal doesn’t end up with them because she changes her mind about Ben or Evie, but to prevent Uma from escaping after her. For two straight movies now, Mal has refused to make even a single unselfish decision.
Let’s move on to Descendants 3, arguably the worst offender.
Mal opens the movie helping the other four VKs announce the new arrivals into Auradon.
She is next shown keeping an eye out for Uma, the only other person who poses a threat to her.
Ben proposes to her, securing her position as Queen of Auradon.
Mal, Ben, and the other VKs return to the Isle to pick up the chosen children, but as they are leaving, Hades almost escapes.
When Hades, her estranged father, and Uma, her bitter rival, both appear to pose a threat, Mal suggests that they close the barrier permanently and prevent any other VKs from crossing over.
She lies to Evie about her role in the closing of the barrier to preserve their friendship.
When Mal discovers that Audrey, her original bully, poses a danger to Auradon, and herself specifically, she returns to the Isle to beg her father for help in the form of a magical ember.
On the way back, they are stopped by the Sea Three, who steal the ember from her. In exchange for the ember and their help with Audrey, Mal agrees to release all the children from the Isle, a promise she does not intend to keep.
Back in Auradon, Mal and Uma butt heads over leadership of their uneasy alliance. When Uma suggests they split up and go check Audrey’s cottage, Mal scoffs at this idea.
When they ultimately end up going with Uma’s plan and finding Audrey’s diary as a result, Mal thanks her for her contribution.
Evie is anxious about whether true love’s kiss will work on Doug. She sings a song about it, and Mal and Uma are seen behind her, encouraging her and providing backup vocals.
Audrey attempts to trap them inside the cottage, and Mal and Uma are forced to work together to free themselves.
At the Fairy Cottage, Mal admits that it was her idea to close the barrier permanently and that she still intends to go along with this plan.
Mal’s group implodes, and she sings a song about how she intends to get her happy ending.
Mal finds Audrey and attempts to battle her as a dragon. Uma, on the ground, forgives her for some reason. They combine magic and defeat Audrey, who goes into a coma.
Mal has her father temporarily escorted from the Isle so that he can wake Audrey. They reconcile.
Mal’s friends forgive her for the closing of the barrier, even the Sea Three, who apparently have no problem with returning to the Isle.
Before an audience of Auradon citizens, Mal announces her plan to close the barrier permanently. She finishes by saying that she cannot be the Queen of Auradon, she has to be Queen of both (the Isle and Auradon).
They take down the barrier and Mal is reunited with her father. At the end of the movie, the four original VKs return to the Isle to visit their parents.
Descendants 3 is interesting because it combines some of Mal’s most self-serving actions with her only three altruistic ones. Halfway through the movie, Uma makes a suggestion about how to find Audrey. Although Mal initially ignores her, the idea proves to be a good one, and Mal thanks her for her idea. This was Mal’s first entirely selfless action in three movies, which I underlined above because it is so significant.
A short while later, Evie is shown angsting about whether she and Doug are really True Love through song. In the background, Mal and Uma support her, both emotionally and through backup vocal “do-waps.” This is notable because it is the first time Mal is ever seen supporting one of her so-called friends, but we’ll get to that later.
The third and final act, also underlined above, is even more significant. Mal calls her estranged and neglectful father from the Isle to wake Audrey from her coma. This is where I must truly give Mal credit. Coming face to face with her abusive (yes, neglect is a form of abuse) father in order to help a person who bullied her and became a villain to hurt her specifically is a truly selfless action. It must have been hard for her to face him again so soon after he told her “You’re stronger with those daddy issues” (yuck). Furthermore, it would have been easy for her to leave Audrey in her coma, as Audrey had never been kind to her. This action required actual sacrifice and was done for no personal gain on Mal’s part, which makes it basically the best thing she’s ever done. Unfortunately, this scene arrives on the tail of a movie dedicated to showcasing Mal’s worst impulses at increasingly higher levels.
For the rest of the movie, Mal’s modus operandi of doing everything possible to secure her own position is in full effect. It is no coincidence that the moment she has the most to lose (Her position as Queen of Auradon at the hands of her father and her biggest rival) is the moment she makes her most callous and self-serving decision yet: to close the barrier permanently, essentially dooming all of the children still on the Island to a lifetime of poverty and oppression. Even within a small, unstable group of the original VKs + the Sea Three (and Celia I guess), Mal cannot bear not being the one in charge, arguing with Uma at every turn. And when her supposed best friends and her fiance are turned to stone, does she show any sadness for them at all? Of course not. She sings a Broadway song about how determined she is to find her own happy ending.
This, of course, culminates at the end of the movie, when Mal decides they should bring down the barrier. As an aside, bringing down the barrier is a terrible idea, because releasing all of the actual villains on the families of the heroes whose lives they attempted to ruin is… unwise, but I digress. On paper, this should also be considered a selfless act, but of course, Mal undermines it by claiming that she cannot be Queen of Auradon, she “must be the queen of the Isle too.” Her final act is synonymous with her biggest bid for power yet, and unbelievably, it works. Thus, Mal ends the third movie the same way she started the first, vying for power at the expense of Auradon (and basically everyone else.)
Mal is an incredibly selfish character. She makes three total noble decisions over three movies, and they all happen in the final installment. Amazingly, I don’t think this makes her a bad character, nor do I think this is bad writing on the part of the screenwriters. What makes this bad is the way her actions and “arc” are framed.
Self-serving protagonists can work. Look at Kuzco from The Emperor’s New Groove, or Rebecca in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, or even Bojack of Bojack Horseman (disclaimer, I have not seen CxGF or Bojack Horseman, these comparisons are based on my surface-level understanding of these shows and a cursory skim of Tvtropes. Y’all are welcome to tell me why I’m wrong about this.) The difference is, if you want your audience to root for these self-serving main characters, you have to show them going through some sort of growth or arc to become more selfless, particularly if you are writing a DCOM about the merits of being good. But unfortunately, this is only the beginning of the problems with Mal’s character.

Girl’s Trip Part 8
Summary:  Evie, Mal, Uma, Audrey, and Jane go on a road trip to the beach for a three-day weekend. Evie’s driving and has road rage, Uma constantly pesters Audrey, Mal thinks it’s all kind of funny, and Jane’s wide-eyed and lovably clueless as usual. Friendship and family feels.
“You’re being brought in for questioning because you five are the last people that were spotted on the video cameras at the Jify-Journey before a robbery occurred,” the officer informed them in his idiotic-sounding voice, as he shoved them toward the police car.
Evie furrowed her brow, remembering the crappy little gas station from the day before. She climbed in the vehicle without a word, not feeling like arguing with him after how she had reacted to Mal.
The truth was that Mal had struck a chord inside of her, and a very sensitive one at that. Ever since the tire went flat, nothing had went right. Everyone was constantly bickering about something and everywhere they stopped was a disgusting hole.
Evie felt terribly guilty about everything, and she felt awful for making Mal feel bad. She wasn’t upset with Mal at all, and if everyone else wasn’t listening she’d eagerly apologize and try to make up with her.
“Sir, I am the Queen of Auradon,” Mal sassily responded to the cop, and he raised an eyebrow at her.
“And I’m Princess Audrey of Auroria!” Audrey added desperately.
“I’m the daughter of the Fairy Godmother!” Jane fearfully explained.
“I’m an innocent hitchhiker?” Uma tried with a wide grin.
“I’ve seen the Queen of Auradon on the television. She’s way prettier than you and can turn into a dragon,” the police officer informed Mal with a sneer, and pushed her in the car.
“Let me out, and I’ll show you just how I do it,” Mal told her. The cop rolled his eyes and he turned to the other three that were standing there near the car.
“As for the rest of you lot, I don’t believe a word you’re saying. You criminal types are full of lies,” he pointed out and Uma, Audrey, and Jane reluctantly got into the police car.
Mal suppressed a groan as the man started to get into the driver’s seat.
“Idiot Cinderellasburg officer,” Mal mumbled under her breath, leaning in nearby Uma. The dark-skinned girl nodded her head in agreement as she gave the man a nasty look.
The policeman started to drive and Mal stared at him through the rearview mirror, her eyes glowing green as she tried to silently communicate her identity. When he finally saw her magic, the man looked at her in a discombobulated sort of way and he gasped.
“You sorceress! That’s against the law, too, and you’re really gonna get in trouble for that!” the cop exclaimed and went a little faster in the direction of the police station lockdown.
Mal growled quietly in pure frustration. The people of Cinderellasburg were just like their rulers Prince Charming, Cinderella, and Chad- total and complete morons.
The drive was oddly short, and the cop soon had them walking through the doors of the police station.
“Hey, Barney! You drag in them there perps that were robbing the Jify-Journey?” a receptionist at the front desk questioned. Officer Barney, as he was apparently named, heartily nodded in return as he sent them on through the door that led to the lockdown area.
“Sure enough! I caught ‘em speeding and that’s when I found out that they were wanted for questioning about that robbery!” he proudly announced.
Mal walked in the front, followed by Evie, then Uma, Audrey just behind the pirate, and Jane at the back of the line.
They filed into the barred cage that was open and the policeman shut the gate, locking it securely behind them.
“Stick your hands through the slit here and I’ll uncuff you,” he instructed, and they all complied. Mal rolled her eyes, resisting the urge to turn into a dragon right in front of him. He probably just wouldn’t understand, and he’d freak out even more over her “sorcery.”
Mal was the first to be released and she let out a sigh of relief, rubbing at her wrists as she headed over to the bench nearby and sat down heavily.
She silently watched Barney through the bars, thinking of how horribly that everything had gone so far. Uma joined Mal, plopping down next to the purple-haired girl with a sigh. Audrey simply remained standing, staring at the ground with an almost traumatized expression.
Evie sat nearby Mal, burying her face in her hands. Mal glanced over at her sadly before returning her gaze to Jane.
“Hey, can I make a call?” Jane questioned before he could uncuff her and the cop looked at her strangely before apparently deciding she was harmless enough.
“Fine. I guess,” he granted, and Jane left the cell, offering Mal a thumbs-up when Barney wasn’t looking, and Mal knew that she was going to call Ben or one of the boys to get them to come save them.
Uma furrowed her brow, not sure what to talk about, and resorted to watching Audrey as she paced the floor in a complete frenzy.
“Great! I’m in jail! What will the kingdom think? What will Grammy think? What will my parents think?” Audrey questioned under her breath, her eyes wide with the panic as she hurried around.
“I’m going to go talk to her,” Uma glanced back at Mal and informed her, overcame by some sense of sympathy for her favorite victim to pester.
Uma got to her feet and stepped into Audrey’s line of pacing. As soon as she turned around, Uma grabbed Audrey’s arms to keep her from running into the pirate.
“Hey, it’s going to be alright,” Uma assured her in that calm manner that she had. Audrey furrowed her brow and Uma could see she didn’t really believe her. Uma sighed in resignation, mentally preparing herself to express her emotions a little better as she let go of the princess’s upper arms.
“Look, Audrey. I know I’ve made things tough for you, and I know I’ve been a total pain in the butt this whole trip.”
“You haven’t been a pain in the butt,” Audrey protested suddenly, her eyes laser-focused on Uma’s. The dark-skinned girl tilted her head to the side, more than a little surprised by this development.
“Really? Because you sure didn’t seem to care for my-”
“Uma, this has been the nicest road trip of my entire life. You annoyed me horridly in the beginning, but I started to actually enjoy our banter once I realized,” Audrey trailed off, swallowing hard at the realization that she was about to reveal these deeply hidden insecurities. “Once I realized that it made me feel like for the first time that I was part of a group.”
Uma’s expression softened somehow after the pink princess had said that. Uma hesitantly placed a hand on Audrey’s shoulder.
“Nobody should feel left out. I know what that feels like on a very personal level. I was left out of Mal’s gang, I was left out of the invitation to Auradon, and I was left out of the land of Auradon itself,” Uma explained uncomfortably. Audrey smiled softly at her.
“I guess we got more in common than we thought, eh, Pirate Ship?” Audrey asked, puffing up with pride at her use of Uma’s joke. Uma stared blankly at her for a minute before laughing at her.
“Yeah, I guess so, Princess,” Uma told her, squeezing her shoulder tightly.
Mal shook her head slightly, watching the two of them. Mal let out a breath in a sigh. However, Evie suddenly nudged her shoulder, clearing her throat quietly and successfully drawing the faerie from her reverie. Mal looked over at the other girl, surprise laced in her expression.
“I’m sorry, M. I shouldn’t have gotten so mad about that guy. Otherwise, we might not be here now,” Evie apologized, and Mal sensed just how close to tears Evie was.
Mal wasted no time in drawing Evie into a hug, the bluenette’s chin resting on Mal’s head as the smaller girl leaned into her trustingly. Evie moved into her just as heavily and Mal closed her eyes in the enjoyment of having her sister so near to her.
“It’s okay. It’s a total coincidence that this happened,” Mal reassured her soothingly and Evie’s shoulders shook in a silent sob. Mal stroked her back comfortingly and she felt moisture fall onto her forehead. Evie’s throat moved against her nose in a swallow as she started to speak.
“This whole trip has just gone wrong. Charlene’s tire went flat, we stopped at a crappy gas station that was robbed after we came, we stayed at an absolutely atrocious motel, and now my stupid anger issues on the road landed us all in jail,” Evie whined, biting her lip hard in an attempt to keep the warble out of her voice.
“And the whole trip was my idea,” Evie added quietly.
  Mal squeezed her tighter.
“Hang on just a second,” Uma’s voice suddenly piped up, and Evie’s bloodshot, tear-filled gaze slowly shifted to study the pirate.
“I happened to have fun fixing Charlene’s tire. That was really cool to get to experience something like that with you guys. It was mostly Mal that helped, but you know what I mean,” Uma shrugged but Evie offered a watery smile in return, obviously touched by Uma’s statement.
“And the crappy gas station had tons of candy and Jane won five dollars, which she was absolutely ecstatic about,” Mal informed against the smooth skin of Evie’s neck where she had her face pressed into in the midst of her embrace.
“The motel wasn’t that bad. The look on your face was hilarious when you thought Mal and Uma were the elderly twins,” Audrey told her, sharing a wide grin with Uma as they chuckled at Evie’s expense.
“And like I said, us getting arrested isn’t your fault. There was no way to know what could happen,” Mal comforted her, pulling away to look into the bluenette’s eyes.
“To be honest, I’ve had a blast,” Uma expressed.
“Evie, sincerely from the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking us on this trip,” Audrey thanked, and Evie felt a real smile coming upon her face as she nodded, opening her arm for Audrey to give her a hug. The pink princess tilted her head sweetly and quickly entered Evie’s embrace.
Mal raised an eyebrow, opening her free arm to Uma who was currently standing awkwardly by herself and watching the group hug.
“You ain’t serious,” Uma groaned, but Mal could see the desire to accept Mal’s unasked request.
Mal flexed her fingers, encouraging the pirate to come over and join them.
Uma sighed in exasperation, but Mal noticed the hidden grin that she had when Mal’s and Audrey’s arms wrapped around her, successfully bringing her into the action.
Mal didn’t know what in the world that they were going to do about the jail situation, but she knew that for now, everything was alright.

Canon Divergence from Descendants
Please note that I have not read the books yet so it is likely to change
Please note that anything that involves her mother or others can be plotted out differently and I will not control the past of our characters!
«  Mal does not sing, her mother hates the sound so Mal doesn’t really know that she has a great voice until she is hanging out with the core three (since she is the fourth).  « She doesn’t trust Evie, Carlos, or Jay (Jay yes, she sort of trusts him given that I guess in the books they are partners in crime) « Malnourished, underweight since the Isle doesn’t exactly get the fresh food that Auradon does, therefore, some food scraps or next to nothing to eat although Mal and her mother are on top of the food chain so they do get scraps more often than others. « Mal afraid of her mother and all of the power that she holds (even without magic Maleficent owns the Isle in her own special way) « Abusive life that Mal has lead from her mother withholding food because she was not wicked and evil enough to eat, to getting beat for breaking something, to the emotional abuse that she suffered since she was just a little thing. She learned that you had to be mean, cruel, not soft and have no friends because it shows that you are weak. These thoughts and learned behaviors just don’t go away. She learned to be whoever someone wants her to be because it would lead her to less pain which explains why in the second movie she is using magic, trying to be the girlfriend she thinks Ben would want. « The Isle is messy, filled with villains just trying to survive although death doesn’t happen on the Isle anyways. « When her mother wanted her to be her so Mal was NEVER good enough. Being told “That’s my nasty little girl.” makes her feel something amazing like her mother loves her almost so she always craves that next time she says it. «  When told to get the wand, it wasn’t on the threat of being grounded but the threat of death or at least a fate worse than death. « She still dates Ben into the second and third film BUT it is a lot of working on the relationship. This is ONLY with Ben’s that ship them as I will adjust Mal as single. etc when other’s don’t ship it or Audrey is with Ben. « Mal is still the daughter of Hades BUT I won’t force this on Hades players  « She doesn’t ask where the wand is right off the bat to Ben and the others, she doesn’t play the whole magic here game because duh people would catch on to what was happening or going to happen sooner! « A week is not long enough to really make connections with others. The only person she really has a connection with is Ben when it comes to Auradon. I am willing to do a plot where Ben and Mal get together in between the 1 and 2 films while attending school there. « “You sound just like your mom” both hurts and brings her a sense of pride. «  When Mal walks into Jay’s and Carlos’s dorm, she spells it so only the core four can hear what is said inside the room « Mal has small scars littering her whole body and a big one from  « In the museum, there is no singing moment, Mal does not stay behind to stare at her mother’s statue.
« She has a huge scar on her stomach where her mother once stabbed her in the stomach
Tumblr media
« Mal is an amazing artist and when she gets to stay at the school and does work at an animal shelter does she use that money to buy art supplies. If she is King Ben’s girlfriend, clearly her time to work is like next to nothing but when a rumor is spread that she is great at art does art supplies seem to come in for her to use «  Mal’s locker does not have a spraypainted logo on her locker as there was no time to settle in
« She still does Jane’s hair and other’s with magic
« Mal gets a few tattoos that I will write about at some point in time
« Mal gets herself a pet after the barrier goes down in a sense.
« The barrier doesn’t come down like it does in the third movie. The children come over without a background check generally BUT the adults? Are not allowed off the island.
« Mal has PTSD,  generalized anxiety, and depression. Has nightmares often that will keep her awake all night long, will avoid things that remind her of past trauma.
« Mal hasn’t dated before but that doesn’t mean that she hasn’t made out with others
« Making cookies and giving one to Ben is more than just one cookie because it would look strange to just give just one. The cookie she takes out of the bag is the one that is filled with magic.
« Going to Ben's game and having him sing to her is amazing. She feels warm and light but she acts less than impressed for sure.
« The date that Ben takes Mal on is the first date she has ever been on.
« Mal can not swim during the first movies time but she learns after that, takes swim lessons
« Mal wants to break Ben’s love spell it makes sense. She didn’t want to be cruel, it proves that she has a heart.
« Honestly, everyone walks around thinking they are better than the VK’s and that the VK’s are horrible just like their parents. Everyone judges their mistakes TEN times worse than if someone from Auradon makes the same mistake
«  Mal swears...a lot. Her mother didn’t care if she swore either.
« Going against her mother is the HARDEST thing that she has ever had to do. Breaking the cycle is hard on her as well.
« Mal mostly uses spells on herself such as spelling her hair to be blonde (Dove Cameron’s blonde not the blonde wig that she wore at the start of the second movie)
« Auradon seems to believe in females have their rules and males have another that is the first thing that Mal would ask to change by taking out the whole females aren’t allowed to fence rule.
« Mal giving Carlos the truth gummies and finding out that because Dude at it that he can talk, you best believe when Mal gets a dog that she gives them a truth gummy
« Mal has a habit of calling Uma “Shrimpy” among other sea-related terms
« Apparently there is a sandbox and a few other toys for children of the Isle because Mal wouldn’t let Uma play in her sandbox when they were little
« Mal tends to her pet lizard and let’s just say she spoils her freaking mother “lizard”
« Dizzy doing her hair is a way to be herself and she can pay Dizzy well which is honestly needed. Dizzy and Evie are the ones that do her hair sometimes but for the most part, Mal uses magic to change things about herself.
« Mal goes back to the isle because at least there she knows how things work, she can play the game of life easier.
« Spraypainting things in the hideout isn’t something Mal does given that they are given leftovers so drawing on napkins, old test paper, etc is more likely than getting a brand new spray can and using it against a wall.
« It physically hurts to turn into a dragon because her bones are breaking, shifting, lengthening to become something so much larger than a human. She aches for an hour after she turns back to human form but she truly does love flying around and being free. She can not change into a dragon when she is pregnant so when Ben and Mal decide to have children, it is likely that she will notice she is pregnant because she can’t change into her dragon form.
« The villains are moved to a prison, not an island where magic is useless and they are able to die after the events in d3 is how it goes. Children that are born in prison are taken away from the villain parents the moment it is born
« Mal’s eyes shine a teal coloring not the green in the movies. They are mixed in color because of who her parents are.
« Mal gets wounded when fighting with Uma, it hits her in the stomach where her scar is from her mother, she gets it the last second before Evie throws that colorful bomb. She heals fast thanks to who her father is.
« VK Day is a horrible thing, won’t be happening here! The VKs come over to go to school there, all the kids or none at all in Mal’s book
« Mal doesn’t think the barrier should be taken down BUT she does think that the children should be removed from the Isle and that is what she tells everyone in the room when asked what they should do.

To the anon who sent me Escape from the Isle of the Lost Questions:
So I know there’s people who want to read the books themselves or who just don’t want to be spoiled so I copied and pasted your question below the cut because it had some, albeit minor, spoilers:
WARNING!!!! THERE ARE POSSIBLE SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT!!!
SPOILER
SPOILER
SPOILER
SPOILER
SPOILER
SPOILER
SPOILER
Anon asked: So I had a couple of questions regarding “Descendants: Escape from the Isle of the Lost”:1. What was your overall opinion of the book?2. Were there any other characters that were introduced in the book besides Arianna Rose and Bobby Hood?3. Do you think Arianna Rose is Audrey’s cousin on Aurora’s side or Phillip’s side because I know that Aurora didn’t really have any siblings in the original film?
Hi anon,
So I’m going to answer your questions a little out of order
Okay so you asked if there were any other new characters other than Arianna and Bobby. Yes, there were but they were mostly their coaches or Doug’s cousins. Any new character that either weren’t mentioned in the previous movie tie in books (I’m not including the random other books that I don’t think were written by Melissa) or that weren’t in the “Wicked World” mini series I tried to write down in my original post so have another look at it.
I think the most surprising was the fact that Fairy Godmother has a sister. Like, why? Also the intro of Audrey’s cousin is weird too. Like what is the purpose? Like if you take out Arianna Rose, it doesn’t change the plot whatsoever, especially because she was mentioned at the very end. This could mean that she’s in D3 and we just don’t know but that would be so weird.
Also in regards to Audrey’s cousin, I’m not 100% sure but I think she’s a cousin on Audrey’s mom’s side. I only say that because of two things: 1.) Aurora was originally called and thought to be just a regular old maiden named Briar Rose when she was growing up and 2.) I think during the graduation scene they said that the Rose family, including Queen Leah, was there. Since Queen Leah is supposedly Aurora’s mom (right?), I assumed that the Rose family is Audrey’s maternal side.
I wouldn’t be 100% surprised if Queen Leah had another child as a replacement for the one she lost. I mean, we know that she never really got to see Aurora grow up so maybe she had another child at some point to fill the empty space but Aurora, though she might deny it, was always her favorite child. That may be why Arianna is so jealous of Audrey, because Audrey is weirdly like Queen Leah’s second chance at raising Aurora so it feels like Audrey is Queen Leah’s favorite.
Again, it would be interesting seeing some of Audrey’s family dynamics on the screen, and we do know that the actress who plays Queen Leah will be back, but it already feels like they’re stuffing so much already into the D3 plot that I really don’t see how they can introduce Arianna’s jealousy of Audrey into it.
Okay, as for my overall feelings about the book…
Tumblr media
(I feel like this will be my go to gif for any new D3 related stuff.)
The book was okay. I think the prequel book for D1 and the one for D2 (”Rise of the Isle of the Lost”) were more interesting. The first one because we learned more about Mal, Evie, Jay, Carlos, and their backstories. “Rise” was good because of…well, Uma, Harry, and Gil. I mean, this book definitely had Uma in it but it was mostly preoccupied with Uma scheming against Mal so we didn’t really get much development for her as we did in “Rise”. Also, not including the weird “Under the Sea” tie in Melissa tried to make (still not sure if Harry and Gil were really there or not), Harry and Gil were only mentioned.
I think the part that I was most interested in was where everyone was going to go after graduation, specifically Jay. We really don’t get that much character insight to Jay in general outside of teamwork so it was interesting to see his thought process with post-Auradon Prep plans and especially why he didn’t want to necessarily go to Agrabah for college.
Carlos throughout the book was essentially in two modes: 1.) Thinking about how awesome Jane was or 2.) Scare that he would be stuck on the Isle and run into his mother. Though both are fine, Carlos was kind of just…there either helping with the Isle stuff or as Jane’s boyfriend/assistant for all the graduation related stuff.
Reading Evie in the book is always weird. Does anyone else feel that way? I think it’s partially how Melissa writes Evie compared to how Sofia plays Evie. Like I feel like Melissa writes Evie like a continuation of Evie from D1, super sweet and smart, but mostly a whole lot of sugar princess bubbly. Sofia I feel plays Evie like someone who is still kind but could potentially give Ben a run for his money if she ever decided that she was interested in overthrowing Ben as ruler of Auradon.
Anyway, though Evie was “doing” a lot of things, she didn’t really seem to have that big of a role in terms of deciding what to do with the Isle kids. It felt like a lot of that fell on Mal and I guess a lot of the character development that I was hoping Evie would get was given to Mal.
Speaking of Mal, I also think Melissa writes Mal as if she’s building off of D1 Mal instead of D2 Mal, which for the most part made reading Mal, in my opinion, a little bit more bearable. I think it also helps that we get insight into Mal’s thoughts in the books so even though we may not agree with her, the things that she does doesn’t feel so out of the blue as it does if we’re just watching the movies.
Speaking of movies, let’s talk about VK Day.
Omg…gotta say, Melissa is a gem who really tries to cover the plot holes that are obviously in the movies even though it’s so apparent the movies’ writers don’t care sometimes (like explaining how Freddie magically has a younger sister and also giving a valid, though kind of sucky, reason why Freddie wouldn’t be at Auradon if Celia came over: Freddie graduated and is probably off somewhere traveling). I think I read somewhere that she writes the books once the script for the movie is done and tries to work her magic to fill in the space in between.
But VK Day…okay, so Melissa definitely stretched it but if D3 actually confirms it, which means that movie’s writers actually thought of this and Melissa merely just expanded on it, it’s not nearly as much of a hot mess as we originally thought. (I mean, VK Day is still a hot mess but maybe it’s not as bad.)
So in the book at least, what we see as VK Day was intentionally done. Okay not the posters, Mal and the others actually thought that was a good idea, but the whole “Good to Be Bad” thing makes a little more sense because no one was originally applying because they either weren’t interested in anything related to Auradon even if there life would get better.
Now I know some people would be like, “What? Why would they turn down a chance to be in a better place?” The short answer is long term trauma. For some people who have lived in very bad environments it’s really hard for them to really comprehend their life being any different. Also, it’s a matter of knowing your enemy. On the Isle, though it’s dangers, everyone knows what to expect to a certain extent. Suddenly dragging kids over to Auradon would actually probably being traumatizing in its own respect. (I could go on about that but you’re here for Fanfic/Theory Writer Edream93, not for Professional Therapist Edream93).
Anyway, Melissa made VK Day just barely work with the whole, “We gotta kind of trick the Isle kids into thinking that this is their chance to potentially be known as the baddest villains in Auradon because saying that they’ll get a good education, warm bed, good food, and be in a non abusive environment is not apparently appealing to them.” Which again, makes sense to me because that’s kind of how trauma works.
So yeah, the whole Good To Be Bad thing was intentionally done that way, at least according to Melissa. We’ll have to see if that’s how they actually planned it in D3.
Overall, the book was kind of underwhelming and seemed mostly like a clean up of missed plot holes. Melissa tried to throw in a vague Marry reference (I say vague because I do recognize I could be reading too much into it) but there were more vague Huma references so I’d say Melissa is leaning more towards Huma. Also, and I’m assuming if you’re reading this far you don’t care about spoilers, I think it’s supposed to ease us into the whole, “Hades is Mal’s father” thing which I’m still hoping it’ll be something like “I’m not your dad, Mal, but I knew him and I owe him for something that he did so that’s why I’m helping you.” The likelihood of that is low but a girl can hope.
Anyway, hope that answered your questions, anon.

Descendants 2 thoughts
- Was not expecting a commentary on social stratification and gang culture being the only outlet for kids from poor neighborhoods who think they have no other means of escape and the importance of making sure kids from lower class families have access to a good education but that’s what I got.
 - I know all you Jaylos shippers are probably writing fanfic where Jane is the Evil Bitch Who Doesn’t Deserve Him because that’s what always happens when a girl gets in the way of the gay ship, but have you all considered fanfic where Jane is Carlos’ Awkward Wingman Who Is As Clueless About Dating As He Is and they get into crazy shenanigans together while she’s trying to help Carlos win Jay’s heart?
- (I personally thought Jane/Carlos was kind of cute, mostly because they are both the awkward fluffy dorkbabies of their respective groups, but I will admit it was not established very well.)
- Evie and Doug are still cute and also are going to take over the world together with the power of fashion and accounting.
- Mal and Ben are still hella cute and I love that he sees her transform into a giant scary dragon and does not give a shit.
- And his parents seem to adore her and are super offended when it looks like he ditched her which is also very cute.
- (Speaking of parents was Maleficent-lizard literally in Mal’s backpack that whole time?)
- Also it is interesting how Mal and Evie get the dramatic duet complete with montage. And by interesting I mean gay. Seriously if you showed that to someone out of context they would totally think it was a love song. Which I am not complaining about btw and I expect that song to be used in many yuri amv’s from now on.
 -  That part when Carlos made everyone sit and talk because he and Jay were worried about Mal too and wanted to be in the conversation. More things showing boys and girls having strong platonic friendships/family dynamics please yes good.
- I do think it’s weird Audrey wasn’t in the movie after playing such a big part in the Wicked World shorts. I guess the actress wasn’t available?
- ...I have a theory that she was on the boat somewhere at the end and only pretended to be stranded in Sherwood forest over the phone to keep Chad away from it because she didn’t want to deal with him.
- I also kind of want to ship Chad and Gil just because they’re both one-dimensional stereotypical dumb blond jerks who only exist to be the butt of jokes apparently.
- Except Harry kissed Gil in the book maybe? Or something?
- Harry is totally bi and flirts with everyone though have u seen him?
- Also totally in love with Uma. In that it’d-be-cute-if-they-weren’t-so-evil-but-it’s-still-really-cute kinda way.
- Uma has a least a fraction of a crush on Ben, but to be honest he is very easy to crush on i mean he’s so earnest and fluffy and wanting to help everyone.
- And that part when dragon!Mal and Tentacle!Uma were fighting and Ben just roars and jumps overboard and it’s like “aw he’s not so different from them and now he’s gonna kick butt!” but then he just talks everyone down again because he’s a freaking sweetie honestly.
- I was expecting some kind of comment from him along the lines of “Mal it was really hard for me to fit in on the isle, now I know how hard it must be for you in Auradon trying to act like us all the time” but oh well.
- But apparently Mal’s actress and Harry’s actor are dating and there are vague rumors that might affect stuff? To which I say to them, if y’all really want to kiss on screen that bad have Harry and Ben switch bodies in the next movie or do a totally different Disney channel movie together, don’t mess up established in-universe relationships for irl stuff.
- I don’t really believe those rumors anyway but just in case i guess.
- anyway Ben/Mal and Harry/Uma otp.
- Jay’s still pretty single which is cool, I like that he and Lonnie are just at the “mutual friends with great respect for each other” stage
- (JAY TELL HER SHE FIGHTS GOOD)
- Lonnie was kind of shoehorned in but okay yeah badass girl swordfights were pretty badass and Jay getting around the rules by making her coach was also nice, if an overdone trope.
- Uma’s hair is awesome.
- Dizzy was adorable and way too pure for the island.
- would have liked to see some of the Wicked World characters like Jordan and Ally in there properly but oh well.
- headcanon: Uma and Freddie are sisters or half-sisters or something.
- in conclusion: all of these songs have been stuck in my head for a week make it stop.

Westward; Eastbound - Mal’s Death
His body skidded across the earth. By some miracle, he avoided falling into the chasms. For several minutes, Ben couldn't see anything but white - so great had been Mal's explosion in front of him. But then he started to make out shapes again and could see the fuzzy outlines of the ground.
Someone took his shoulders and hoisted him to his feet. Ben gasped for breath. He could see the outlines of someone with a vest. "I can't see," he gasped as they tried to set him upright. "Give me a minute. Where's Audrey? Where's Maleficent? Where's Mal?"
"Over here," Jay replied gruffly. "Audrey's fine. Maleficent… we're not sure but there's a lot of blood over here so we're assuming she's… gone. Mal is… down."
"Down?" Ben repeated. He rubbed his eyes and the white shapes took on a bit more color. Jay turned him around and he spotted - off in the distance - purple. He tossed aside Jay's help and stumbled over the ground, where he almost tripped over the edge of a crater that had appeared around Mal.
He gradually was able to see where the bumps in the path were and that helped as he hurried to her side and dropped to his knees. She was lying spread-out and was very, very pale. He felt up and down her neck with nimble, numb fingers. No beat. No thrumming anything. No pulse.
"Jay? Evie?" Ben began to shout. "Carlos? Uma? I can't get a pulse!"
Pale hands budged him aside. It was Audrey, looking grimy and exhausted and with a hot bit of rock that had melted onto her ear. She waved him aside and felt up Mal's neck with one hand before reaching down to press her fingers at her wrist. "We need to try CPR," she whispered. Her voice was hoarse from breathing all the charred smoke.
"We already tried," Uma announced, coming up behind them with a shake of her head. "She's cold, guys. She burned herself out breaking that spell."
Ben sat back on his heels and stared down at Mal in something like shock. How could this have happened? This was… all his fault. He covered his face with his hands and exhaled, trying to let all the air out of his lungs. Oh, what would happen now? What was he going to tell Hades and Xavier when he was older?
What was he going to do?
Audrey muttered something, and Jay let out a startled sound - something between a scoff and a laugh. Ben tore his eyes off Mal, wiped them on the back of his hand, and looked to her. "What?" he gasped. "I missed that."
Audrey pulled her ponytail out of her hair, staring at the ground as she did. She raked her fingernails up and down her scalp. "True Love's Kiss," she mumbled. "Works every time."
Ben's mouth fell open. Was it… Audrey who had suggested that? Audrey, whose mouth had curled with jealousy when he went to see his mother and Audrey who was paranoid about everyone everywhere?
"Worth a shot," Evie muttered. "Old magic - might work."
"Audrey," Ben whispered. "You…" He trailed off when the words wouldn't come.
Audrey got to her feet, shaking a little, and stepped back. "Go on, Ben," she nodded. "Just give it a shot."
Ben stared. Evie, Uma, Carlos, and Jay all stepped a little closer to see. Ben's hands were shaking.
He slowly picked her head off the ground. She was stiff even though she hadn't been lying there for long. He kept his eyes on Audrey, but Audrey focused on Mal. Finally, he followed her gaze down.
Mal's mouth was shut and her eyes closed. Her cheeks seemed hollow as if there was no fat in them. Slowly, he leaned down and brought her up. Then he let his lips brush against hers. Nothing more than that.
It wouldn't work. The only reason he was doing it was because he'd wanted to kiss Mal at least once more ever since he left and because everyone was gathered around, expecting him to. He and Mal had known each other for mere months and no matter how electrifying and alluring she was, he couldn't call it love. Couldn't - it wasn't reasonable - there was no way -
Then Mal took a gasp underneath him and that train of thought stopped in its tracks. Her eyes snapped open and one hand seized his shoulder in a vice grip to support herself. Ben sat back up - half in surprise and half in fear that she'd smite him to the ends of Auradon. "It worked?" he asked.
Mal felt her mouth, apparently as shocked as he was.
"Mal!" Evie sank to her knees and took Mal's arm to help her to her feet. Ben let her go as Uma, too, came and helped her up. Mal leaned on them both for balance and continued looking back at Ben in shock. Ben didn't get up - he felt like his brain had flatlined and there was no shock that could revive it. Jay let out a breath and Carlos chuckled at his shock, then they both glanced at Audrey. Ben did too.
Audrey stood with her weight mostly on her right leg and her entire face unresponsive. She kept her arms crossed over her ribs as if bracing for a hit there. Ben swallowed. "Audrey?" he whispered and got to his feet. He reached for her hands, but she refused him. For several long moments, they stood at ends, and then Audrey relaxed and let Ben take her hands again. "I'm sorry," he whispered. "I really am - I swear this doesn't mean-"
"I'm glad she's okay," Audrey cut him off. "And I'm glad Maleficent is gone. Let's go home."

So I was thinking of a Descendants X Narnia crossover... particularly about Jadis... amond the characters, who's blood is owned by Jadis? Are the Core 4's blood owned by Jadis? they did betray their parents.
Hey anon,
So to be 100% honest, I had to look up who the heck Jadis was on Wikipedia because I was super confused until I realized you meant the White Witch because I totally forgot she actually had a name.
Tumblr media
Moving on to answer your question. My answer: I really don’t know.
I mean, if you’re actually going to do a Descendants x Narnia crossover there’s a lot of things that I would need to know, I guess. Like where in cannon is this take place in? Is Jadis on the Isle? Does Narnia exist in Auradon or does England just exist and Narnia still technically another world?
Like depending on how you answer those questions there’s so many different paths that I can think of. Like honestly I can see Jane being seen as a traitor. I mean she did try to steal her mom’s wand.
Tumblr media
Depending on which Descendants movie, Mal could be but maybe not if you’re following canon in the sense that she’s Hades’ daughter. Like imagine how that comes into play. Does having a god as a father protect Mal? And if so does that mean it slides on to her friends? Because if we’re talking D1, I honestly feel Mal is the only traitor. Maleficent is the one who came up with the plan, Mal was supposed to see it through. The other kids’ parents of course wanted to be free but I honestly don’t think they were that invested in it/didn’t think it was going to work as much as Maleficent did so I at least for me, I only see Mal as the “traitor” in that sense.
Tumblr media
Then there’s D2 where Uma comes into the picture. That changes things because now we know that none of the Core 4 really looked back for those they left behind. I still think there’s different levels to the amount of betraying someone but I would say at the beginning of this movie it’s probably more Mal, Ben. Some people may think that Evie, Carlos and Jay betrayed them too but perhaps not to the extent that Mal and Ben did since Mal is actually from the Isle and was supposed to be one of its “leaders” and Ben kind of forgot about the other kids once he got a new girlfriend. Plus, Ben apparently not apologizing to Audrey could be seen as another betrayal.
Tumblr media
Then there’s D3 where I think it mostly lies on Mal but again, goes back to the question of, if she’s protected by being Hades’ daughter? Another person who may be seen as a traitor is Uma. Now I LOVE Uma and I in no way think she would betray her crew. But that does bring up the question of does betrayl have to be intentional? Like Uma was obviously looking for ways to break out her crew and obviously Harry and Gil still waited for her but what if her crew and everyone else on the Isle thought she betrayed them like Mal? So that could be another option.
