General Descendants Headcanons

A/N: this is just my general headcanons in general! i would love discussion but in my head this is just how i view everyone because i love them all <3

okay let's get into this!

dove confirmed mal is pan and has a huge crush on evie, so I definitely see evie being bi or pan and having a huge comphet problem because of her mother

jay is also a raging bisexual if I've ever seen one (source: I'm bi)

as for carlos I personally love his relationship with jane, I think they're very cute together

though I do think carlos is bi as well, or at least queer in some way

harry and gil are also raging bisexuals

harry literally flirts with anything that moves/breathes lets be so honest

uma is so complicated for me because I love her with harry but I also love the idea that she's a lesbian and is possibly jealous of evie and mal

seriously if mal and uma were together they would be such a power couple especially since they work so well together

I'm a huge gil x jay person, I think their chemistry in D3 was amazing

imagine them on their gap year traveling the world omg-

doug is so complicated for me because I do feel like he genuinely loves evie but the reason they never said "the L word" is because evie was struggling so much with comphet and didn't understand what she was feeling

and doug waited for her! he never pushed her to do anything she wasn't comfortable with and was happy just to be her friend and help her with her business

or its just a lavender marriage anyway-

family is so important to everyone in the descendants universe, whether it is by blood or not

which is a theme already shown in the movies

after the barrier is taken down i do see there being a couple hiccups here and there BUT it is taken care of fairly easily

and in my head i do see a lot of unlikely friendships and auradon just winning all the tournaments and things

plus everyone's fashion just gets 10x better in general

which is why you see more dyed hair on AKs (auradon kids) in the rise of red instead of it being exclusive to just VKs

i don't think any of this is groundbreaking by any means but i just love talking about descendants in general so! hopefully you enjoyed!

Audrey loves the outdoors. She is 100% comfortable with just hanging out in the woods with the animals, or spending the day hiking. Her Grammy, on the other hand, doesn't like that. She wants Audrey to be the perfect princess. To wear perfect dresses, have perfect hair, be perfect so she can be Auradon's queen.

So, when Audrey goes shopping she does so to prove to her Grandmother that she's following her rules. She's making sure she looks nice and tries to never wear the same outfit twice. She makes sure that she and Ben perfect dates, away from the woods she longs to be in, away from the animals she was once friends with.

She stays in her castle, her perfect castle where people take care of her and she doesn't have to lift a finger. She goes to her lessons and assures her grandmother that she can do this. She can be the perfect princess her mother was unable to. She can become Ben's Queen.

But when it gets too overwhelming, she escapes to her mother's cabin. When the world falls away, it becomes her safe space.

Until one day, her Grammy ruins that, too.

Helpless vs. Useless: Chad Charming

Inspired by a poll on the Descendants subreddit asking who the most USELESS AK was, where Chad has taken a severe lead.

Chad Charming is not useless. He’s a great man to have on your side if you need help in literally anything. Chad is helpless, and the difference is absolutely striking in his character-- let me explain.

Chad is never shown as useless. Bumbling at times, sure, but even in those instances he’s never being shown as someone who’s stopped trying and is just in the way, no help at all, not even attempting to help. He’s thrown his entire self into trying to help.

The problem is, Chad is extremely helpless.

When we read the first Isle of the Lost book, we find out from Ben’s perspective that Aurora raised Audrey to never want for anything-- that Aurora’s mentality is that her daughter should never have to suffer like she did. With that in mind, it’s very reasonable & safe to assume that most of the AKs were likely brought up the same way, especially including Chad. Looking at all of the work Cinderella had to do in her life until she met her prince, I find it HIGHLY unlikely Cinderella would have wanted her son to be forced to work for anything he didn’t want to do. So he probably didn’t learn a lot of useful, relevant skills in life, but he definitely learned things like sports, fencing, etc., because it’s what he wanted and excelled in.

Am I positing this as a good thing, no, of course not! But it’s definitely relevant in the discussion today. We see throughout the movies and books he appears in that Chad is trying extremely hard to do better, and at times proves to be far smarter and more helpful than he’s given credit for.

In D2, Chad is revealed to have 3D printed himself a key to Jay & Carlos’ room so he can use their 3D printer. Reasonably? He’s a prince. Chad could easily ask his parents to buy him one. But we learn in School of Secrets Chad has a problem with, ahem, “losing” his phone and just having his parents pay for a replacement. Between that and some other impulsive, likely expensive choices we see him make in this movie and others... it’s very possible his parents wouldn’t buy him one. And so he found a workaround to access what he wants. Is it good, no, but it does establish one thing: Chad is definitely smart enough to get what he wants when he wants it. He’s not useless, he just needs motivation.

And a primary piece of motivation for Chad is Audrey.

In and before D2/leading up to Cotillion, between the movie and Evie’s fashion book, we come to realize Chad has spent a painstaking amount of time trying to get his Cotillion outfit absolutely perfect-- much to Evie’s chagrin, because she notes how picky & persnickety he is in her book/around his sketch. He’s dedicated ages upon ages (& not to mention how much he probably spent) to getting his outfit perfect-- and he drops everything and misses Cotillion entirely to come to Audrey’s rescue over a phone call.

Once again, he’s Chad. If he wants to do something, he will find a way to make it happen-- re, the key. But instead of finding some way around going himself, he goes to help, even though as discussed, he probably doesn’t have the practical skills to help at all.

In Audrey’s diary, she notes that at some point she was on a walk with him, wherein he noted she seemed down, and Chad decided to try and cheer her up by telling her a funny story about Jaques the mouse. She disregards it, & him, but that doesn’t discount it from the Chad side. He saw her upset, he cares about her, he tried to do something to make her feel better. It’s not much good, but it’s what he had & came up with. He’s still trying.

Which brings us to D3. Oh yes, unarguably his motivation was to protect himself. But that doesn’t mean Chad didn’t try at every turn and, when he knew it wasn’t helping, he just did what he was told and accepted that was what he had to do. Still not useless-- he was doing exactly what he intended the entire time: protecting himself. Just helpless-- doesn’t actually have the practical skills to do anything but achieve his own goal of self-preservation.

There are many things I headcanon and believe about Chad. Helpless, clueless, stubborn as a mule, possibly autistic, but definitely not useless. Never useless. He has proven he can be useful so long as he’s motivated to be.

Harry hook relationship headcanons

This wasn’t requested but I wanted to post something to do with descendants and I haven’t finished any of my requests yet!

Once he knew you were single would be chasing after you like a dog to a bone.

-he’s quite naturally flirty, everything that comes out of his mouth seems to have a flirtatious undertone.

-despite people seeing him as dumb I think he’s quite observant and can read people very well. Is very in tune with your emotions and can always tell when you’re down. Though he isn’t the best at comforting but he’s willing to work on it.

-uses his hook a lot. He knows you find it attractive and uses it to his advantage. Would lift your chin with it and run it down your cheek.

-loves eye contact. Will never break eye contact with you and when he’s first getting to know you he uses it against you to make you flustered. He loves knowing he has that kind of effect on you and will always try to make you flustered around him.

-once he’s dating you will never leave you alone. I believe one of his love languages is quality time as he was never shown any other kind of love. He constantly wants to be in your presence which you don’t mind.

-it isn’t that he doesn’t like physical touch it is just something he has to become familiar with after being starved of it for many years. You start off slow together with hand holding and gradually grew more touchy with each other. He now loves hugging you and cuddling. I think he is actually quite fond of being the little spoon or lying on top of you because it makes him feel surrounded by love.

-while he doesn’t show much pda he is prone to flirting with you in public and he doesn’t care who hears it. He proudly and unashamedly flirts with you.

-is protective of what he loves because he doesn’t have many things like that. Harry would be ready to pick a fight with anyone who flirts or gets to close to you, he just can’t help it, he doesn’t want to lose you.

-this makes him a very jealous person. Will always think the worst of a situation and won’t always be the angry jealous. He could interpret the person flirting with you as you thinking he wasn’t enough for you which definitely isn’t true. This leaves him sulking until you reassure him with many kisses and whispers in his ear. Depending on the day he could react completely opposite and just walk right up to the interaction and lay his hands all over you to send a clear message to whoever is eyeing you up. He will drag you away from the interaction if he has to .

-deep into the relationship he becomes clingy and will want to spend every waking moment in your presence, preferably your arms.

-would find it odd if you got along with your parents but if your parents accepted him it would definitely help heal some of the deep rooted trauma within him,

-he will still try to act tough and intimidating to those around him but once you walk over to him he just turns to mush, the complete opposite of what he was trying to make himself out to be. He goes from staring down the people he’s talking to and then turns to you with the biggest smile. People soon catch on and tease him about it but he just lets them because he can’t deny the truth of how you make him feel.

Latin! And here are my reasons.

Latin was common in the middle ages for those who were educated, "higher up," and if I remember correctly something royalty and diplomats would learn.

Its the root of a lot of languags (including French, Italian, and Spanish), and shares the same origins as Greek. And then other languages, including English, have "borrowed" from Latin.

If the spells from Disney follow a lot of other media, then Latin is also likely used by a lot of the magical people, such as Evil Queen and Maleficent.

Catholics use Latin, so there's Frollo and likely a lot of other villains (or those just sent to the Isle) who are from middle ages times.

Honestly, there's even a chance that the pirates know Latin, especially Captain Hook.

So, Latin.

Personal Headcanon:

Chloe and Red attend Castlecoming before returning to the present.

For their entire lives Bridget and Ella both wondered where those girls they met for a while in school went. They don’t recognize them as their daughters due to magic implemented by the pocketwatch.

Until…

Red and Chloe dance together formally at a ball and out themselves by accident. Ella and Bridget may not remember much about their lost friends after so long, but they remember the very romantic, swoon worthy dance the two had at Castlecoming before vanishing in a hurry. Red and Chloe use the exact same steps as all those years ago and it hits both Queen’s at the same time as the spell shatters.

My Blooming Rose (Enchantress' Child!Reader x Ben Florian)

@iliumheightnights Hi friend! May I please request a little story? I'd love to read a story about Ben Florian dating a son of the enchantress reader. Reader still is learning magic and Ben helps him when he can and encourages him? All the fluff please?

In some respects, no one would necessarily blame your boyfriend's father for wanting to imprison your mother on the Isle of the Lost.

She did, after all, enchant a young, albeit spoiled, prince and condemn him (an eleven-year-old, mind you) to ten years of suffering and self-loathing in a body not his own.

But no. King Adam and his Queen would never have met if not for the Enchantress.

Besides, they learned well from the example of Queen Leah and King Stefan - don't piss off the magical entity in close proximity.

And so the Enchantress lived within Auradon, and you, her child, were born.

You're not sure you quite approve of the whole Isle of the Lost thing - your mother's punishments tended to get to people before they became irredeemable, so the idea of endless incarceration seems harsh, even by her standards.

But all the same, you are invited to Auradon Prep, mainly to study with the Fairy Godmother to hone your talents in magic. And since you aren't expected to enter a royal line, you don't even have to do some of the more inane Auradon courses.

But who would have thought that without any magic at all, you'd have ensorcelled the heart of Prince Ben.

Ben is just a spot of sunshine in your world, he's so affectionate and lovely.

And supportive!

He's figured out the loophole in the rule that he can't spend all his free time with you by organizing "study dates" in addition to normal dates.

But since magical homework and study is pretty involved, that just means he hangs around in your dorm with you more often than not.

Not that either of you mind.

Except this can sometimes lead to minor mishaps.

You're practicing a spell in the mirror, meant to help disguise someone by changing their appearance.

Focusing on your hair, trying to lengthen it just a little. Just a small test.

But then Ben leaps up to kiss you on the cheek and you wave the training wand just a little haphazardly-

And Ben gets a face-full of your magic.

"Oh my gosh, Ben! Are you okay?"

"Yup!" Ben groans from the floor. "Nothing broken. I think."

He hops back up to his feet, and you gasp.

Your boyfriend's smooth jaw has sprouted patchy growths of hair that are still thickening until they make a rather nice beard and mustache. "Ben... I..."

Ben sees himself in the mirror and grins. "Oh, this is nice!"

"It was an accident."

"If even your accidents are this great, you're gonna be a better wizard than Merlin!" Ben pats your shoulder before stroking his new beard. "It's not even scratchy!"

You blush. "You look really good with a beard."

"Do I look kingly?" Ben asks eagerly, striking a pose.

"You do, but let's try and find a counterspell quickly. Accidental magic tends to corrupt pretty fast. You might end up with the hair changing colors like a chameleon or something."

"That actually sounds kinda-"

"And then I wouldn't be able to see where to kiss you."

Ben instantly gets serious. "Let's hit the books."

"But uh... when you do reverse the spell... Maybe try it on purpose? I wanna see what kissing with a beard is like."

You grin. "Oh really? Why?"

"Cause when you're my Royal Consort, I'll probably grow out a beard and kiss you all the time, so... I wanna see what I'm working toward."

You laugh and then squeeze his hand. "In that case, let's get this thing reversed as soon as we can."

"Love you. My blooming rose."

"Love you. My noble king."

HC that the reason Mal doesn't have horns and wings is because the barrier blocks big magic alongside evil magic, and for her body to develop them it needs exposure to magic, preferably a lot of it.

This leads to two openings: Mal does end up growing wings and horns eventually (she is likely immortal or at least going to live a very long time so she could still be considered a "baby" fairy/demigod whatever we should call her), or she learns about this and just gets really upset.

List the WORST descendants kids names you've ever seen and why? From books and movies.

Here we go...

EVIE as a full name, which it is implied to be. I believe I saw fanon that it's short for Genevieve, which I do like, but as presented in canon it's straight Evie, which just-- it's just a bad nickname for her mother's TITLE! Her title, not even her name! At least with Mal, we know it's short for Maleficent, that her mother named her after herself but shortened it until Mal proved her worth as a villain. Evie-- we're just given Evie. Like I get that they were making all of the kids obvious/alliterate to parents so we as an audience (or rather, the intended audience) could easily identify where they came from, but names like Jay, Uma, and Carlos still fit that theme without being painfully obvious. At the VERY least, showing that she had a full name that "Evie" was a nickname for would have sufficed, such as Genevieve, Evelyn, Evangeline (ironically, the last one is the name of a daughter of Snow White in my rpg). Other alternative names that I think would have sufficed with an E: Eloise, Eden, Elizabeth.

Lonnie. Grr. It bothers me that a movie inspired by a famous Chinese fairytale, with beautiful visuals and nods and overall entrenchment in Chinese culture, throws out all ideas of naming the kids based on their culture and just names the daughter something that 100% just sounds like something Shang could call Mulan in private/as a nickname. Like, what? There was a missed opportunity in giving her a name with an interesting meaning that at the VERY LEAST set us up for some kind of character, and works better than some arbitrary (NOT EVEN ALLITERATIVE LIKE MOST OF THE OTHER CHARACTERS) English name. I took the time to actually look some up for this: for alliterative to parent names, they could have gone with "Song" ("praise, pine tree, large mountain", all suggesting strength), "Shaiming" ("life, sunshine"), "Mingmei" ("smart and beautiful" as a name), or if they really wanted to go with an L, then there were still some options like "Ling" ("spirit, soul" or "bell chime"). It was overall lazy and just disappointing imo. Especially when at the very least, even as a Jr, her brother TECHNICALLY still got a culturally correct name. (His nickname, on the other hand... but, you asked for names.) (UPDATE: see below...)

LI SHANG JR. Have officially learned it's disrespectful to name a son after his father or grandfather in Chinese culture. Not to mention the nickname. Good god, it's just embarrassing. There were so many other choices to have been made the various writers honestly probably shouldn't have even used Mulan & Shang as parents if they were going to be this bad about it.

Herkie. Really? I mean, first off, given that everything else about the movie was Greek, his father really should have been Heracles, but the son being named HERKIE? Hector. Hector would have been GREAT. Hero? On the nose, but absolutely. I can't imagine a character whose entire thing/hero's journey was rooted in becoming a massive hero and then learning not to relax into the celebrity life/showing what true heroism is, naming his child after himself in such a way. No. Update: Per the replies to this post, I've learned this is actually cultural! Which I 100% don't buy for even 1 second was intentional on the writers' part, all things considered, but I'll accept it!

I'm sorry bc I have another anon about her in my inbox, but Tiger Peony. If we had gone without the extremely racist Native portrayal of Peter Pan making it into Descendants, we could have all been better off, but since we're here, come ON. At the very least, tiger lilies are an actual flower. There were a lot of opportunities that were fully missed in making her parentage obvious. Given there's no real associated specific Native tribe associated to Tiger Lily, I'm hesitant to find alternatives, but maybe that's why I feel this character never should have been in the franchise...

Finally, for his brief appearance & reference, Pin. PIN? If you hadn't noticed the trend yet, I HATE the idea that the Auradonian heroes were so vain as to name their kids after themselves-- at least with the villains it makes more sense (though I still don't like Evie), but the heroes? God, no wonder it took Mal screaming it at the top of her lungs at Ben's coronation for these traumatized kids to realize they could be more than what their parents were. Alternatives: Pio ("a dutiful person", somewhat a play off Pinocchio WITHOUT being so direct, obvious who his father is without being dumb) or Placido ("a man who is calm and quiet"). Update: Also from the replies, it's a common practice! Though "Pino" is probably better than "Pin".

I've only seen descendants 2, and that was years ago, so these are very short, a bit vague, and probably even more ooc than usual! Sorry! Hope they will suffice anyway!

He might act tough and dangerous, but He's a sweetie really. At least with you.

Be warned, he Will flirt with you 24/7. Even more so in public. Everyone needs to know you're his, after all!

Protective boi. Anyone dares look at you in the wrong way, expect him to be threatening them likely before you've even noticed they'd done anything wrong.

Also a jelly boi. He gets sulky if he thinks you're paying more attention to someone else. And if it goes on for too long, expect him to physically move either whoever you are talking to or yourself with some offhand comment about how you were busy with something and didn't need distracting. Even though you weren't.

He also gets very clingy if he thinks you've been ignoring him; Pulling you onto his lap, Holding you tight, kissing your lips, face, neck. Anywhere he can, really.

Adventures = dates. The two of you will often go exploring, trying to find new places on the Isle. Your favourite spot by far is a small beach with a cave away from the rest of the chaos of the Isle.
