WEEK 5 REFLECTION

The research from the four artists, Karl Schmidtt, toshi and iri maruki, zack smith and Francis bacon have both made an impact on my work and have given me ideas for further art. The recent artwork I have created (this being the cubes) have been hugely inspired by toshi and iri moruki this is because the patterns and colours used symbolise tragedy and sadness, the chaotic mess used in the Japanese war has influenced the techniques I used on the album covers such as smudging the marks made to create a dramatic meaning as well as slitting the background into different sections. Zack smith has also influenced this artwork because the mesmerising fine liner markings draw the eyes into page, to bring more attention to certain areas I used this technique around the skull, this is because the skull had the biggest meaning. The artwork I have made this week involve multiple techniques such as, lino, wood printing and building 3d structures, the wooden printing was a very enjoyable process because the rough texture from the wood gave the final print a rustic aesthetic. This contrasts really well with the elephant because an elephant’s skin is rough and dry just like the final print. the practical problems I have faced this week have been adding too much ink onto the wooden lino print, the ink has sunk into the fine details on the elephant therefore the print comes out with minimal detail, to solve this problem I scanned it into photoshop to cut out and paste the good areas onto the black areas.
