Alright y'all, this is it, the Pokemon AU nobody wanted

So Kuai Liang is the ice type gym leader, having taken over after his brother resigned. His team consists of:

A Regice named Reginald that originally belonged to his mother, A Froslass named Lian, A Glaceon named Blizzard, A Sneasel named Thief that he caught breaking into the gym after hours one night, A Lapras named Tides and an Aurorus named Sky.

Bi-Han was the ice type gym leader originally and his team was:

Dewdrop the Dewgong, Nicholas the Delibird, Iceberg the Avalugg, Spike the Alolan Sandslash, Gorilla the Galarian Darmanitan, and Bear the Beartic (he's not very creative)

After an accident which killed them all (I'm sorry) he resigned and disappear for a while, eventually turning up again as the Dark type gym leader with a team of:

Queen the Weavile, Scavenger the Mandibuzz, Snow the Absol, Shadow the Zorua, Nyx the Umbreaon and Witch the Murkrow

Hanzo is the Dragon type gym leader, the first to establish such a gym and his team is:

A Vibrava named Akie that originally belonged to his wife, Isamu the Dragapult, Kanako the Drampa, Masaru the Kommo-o, Sachie the Noivern and Tarou the Dragonair.

Frost is a trainee at the Lin Kuei gym, hoping to become the next leader. She started working there bc shde kept challenging Kuai Liang and losing so he just gave her a job and started to train her instead. Her team is:

An Alolan Vulpix named Azure that was her first and only pokemon for years, a Sneasel named Crimson that she hatched from an egg given to her by Kuai Liang (an egg Thief had laid but he hasn't told her that), Aurora the Frosmoth, Cub the Cubchoo, Obsidian the Glalie, and Chowder the Cloyster

I have other ideas but they are less fleshed out: Liu Kang is the fire type gym leader (chosen over Kung Lao who want on to become the champion of the elite four though nobody knows that), Raiden is electric gym leader, Sonya is fighting gym leader, Johnny is still a celebrity but he got famous through being a pokemon trainer first and then became an actor, and Mileena is the fairy type gym leader, having taken over after Kitana left.

Cosmo: I will repeat that I don't get any sort of power from the sun to use in combat, but I will say I do love to soak in the sun light. I can't make a solar beam, but walking in the sun during the mornings energizes me in a similar, if maybe much healthier, way as drinking a cup of coffee.

In times of the year in which there's less sun light. Tails has developed simulated sun light in his lab. It's not nearly as good as natural sun light. But it's enough so that I'm not entirely sleepy throughout most of winter and parts of the Fall

((She'd probably have one of the farthest reaching attacks in Sonic Battle, and in any 2D games she's playable she might be the closest to having a 'Sonicvania'))

(Two of my favourite games? In one story? It's more likely than you think.)

(Games: Pokemon, Mortal Kombat 1, 2023. Alternate Universe)

The final bell rang, announcing that class had begun. Seventeen students hurriedly took their seats in the arena’s stands, chattering excitedly about the guest Trainer the Grandmaster had organised for them. He’d given nothing away about their identity; all they knew was they were retired from the Contest circuit and taught Contest skills to those who wanted to learn. They were stupid criteria, really.

“Good day, students.”

“Good day, Grandmaster.” Bi-Han strode to the edge of the arena, his Glaceon trotting happily beside him. His face was softened from its usual scowl but it was no less indifferent. “I apologise to you all, our guest is running a few minutes late.”

A student who trained a Vanillite raised their hand. “Grandmaster, could you please tell us more about the special guest?” The Ice-type Gym Leader brought a hand up to scratch at his chin in mock thought.

“I think I have given you enough clues to the identity of our guest - excuse me.” He pulled his buzzing phone from his pocket, the Rotom inside blinking with each vibration. “Hello? Yes…yes…very well…indeed. See you soon.” Repocketing the device, he sat in the stands with the students. “Keep your eyes on the entrance to the arena.” Seventeen pairs of eyes followed the instruction as a spotlight was shone on the entrance.

It took minutes for something to happen. A large shadow inched closer to the spotlight, moving at a steady pace. The light revealed the shadow to be a Drapion, fangs and armour gleaming in the artificial light. Sitting on the Ogre Scorpion’s back was a familiar face that made many of the students gasp in awe, some swallowing their squeals.

“Hello, everyone.” Tora dismounted her Drapion and reached up to pat its neck. Drapion hummed in appreciation and leaned its head down to accept more of the touches.

“Good day, Tora,” the class replied.

“Today’s session will be an exercise in getting the most out of your Pokémon’s abilities in the context of a Contest,” Bi-Han explained.

“Hopefully I won’t be talking for too long before we get you starting out with some small exercises.” Tora returned Drapion to its Pokeball. “Think about some of your favourite Contestants, or even some of your favourite Trainers. What sort of things would you say they had in common?” The students murmured amongst each other, stumped by the question.

A brave student with a Rolycoly raised their hand. “Their Pokémon know cool moves?” Their friends nodded in agreement.

“If that were all it was about, Grandmaster Sub-Zero would’ve taken the class himself.” The former Contestant shot a glance at the Gym Leader, who offered a smirk in response. “What other things would those Trainers have in common? Call them out to me.” Bi-Han noticed she was running a finger over a particular Pokeball on her belt.

The next answers came quickly. “Many years of training?”

“Access to good catching spots?”

“A connection with their Pokémon?”

Tora pointed to the student with a sleeping Pikipek in front of them. “There it is, I was waiting for that one!” The student smiled and blushed. “Regardless of whether you go into the battle circuit or the Contest circuit, you won’t get far without a positive connection with your Pokémon. There are some Pokémon that need that positive connection in order to evolve, like this one.” She plucked the ball from her belt and opened it up.

“Whoa!” Bi-Han’s eyes widened slightly as the light died down to reveal a pure white Pokémon, with bright blue eyes and a fuzzy collar around its neck. Two fluffy antenna extended from its head above its eyes and matched the glittering wings it flapped softly to keep it in the air.

“Does anyone know who this Pokémon is?” The Gym Leader turned to the class, who looked between each other. “This is a Frosmoth, a Pokémon that can only evolve if it has a high connection with its Trainer.” The Frost Moth Pokémon quivered its wings, scattering fine snowflakes to the ground.

“Frosmoth, do you think these students would like to see a demonstration of a Contest performance?” Tora asked. Frosmoth trilled a noise that sounded as if it was unsure, matching the teasing tone of its Trainer. The students began to raise their voices in pleading, and were silenced when Bi-Han raised his hand.

“Miss Tora, may we please see you and Frosmoth perform?” The brave Trainer with the Rolycoly raised their hand again.

“Well…” The former Contestant blushed again at the stare from the Gym Leader, masking it with a rub of her cheeks. “I suppose that wouldn’t hurt. Frosmoth, would you like to perform today?” At the affirmative noise from the Frost Moth Pokémon, the students cheered and readied themselves to be entertained.

Seventeen students scattered themselves around the arena, ready to practise skills that would help them become closer with their Pokemon.

“Remember, you only have to hold your chosen move for three seconds,” Tora reminded them. “This is an exercise to gauge your connection with your Pokémon, not a competition to see who can do it first. Begin.” Loud cries echoed across the arena, Pokémon and their trainers showing off and choosing moves from their moveset to hold for three seconds. Frosmoth fluttered between the students, leaving snowflakes near those who said hello or gently petted its fluff.

“When did Snom evolve?” Bi-Han asked as the two older Trainers sat in the stands observing the progress.

“Yesterday, actually. We were practising some snow dancing when it cried out what I assume was a happy noise and…evolved.” Tora’s eyes stayed on her Frost Moth Pokémon, who was bouncing in the air near the student with the Vanillite. Vanillite bounced along with Frosmoth, the student giggling at the scene.

“It’s beautiful,” said the Gym Leader after a while.

“Yeah.”

“It reminds me of us.” The former Contestant snapped her head to meet his gaze. “Beautiful like you, yet its Ice-type moves are the right sort of power that I command.” He reached down and gave her hand a subtle squeeze; not in front of the students, he reasoned mentally.

“Bi-Han, you flirt-”

DINGDINGDINGDING. “Miss Tora, the time’s up!”

There was something magical about the Lin Kuei grounds in the evening. A group of Volbeat trailed after an Illumise across a rising golden moon, Flabébé nestled into the blooming garden beds, and people strolled past with their Pokémon. Bi-Han and Tora sat on a wooden bench overlooking the city below, the former Contestant resting her head on the Gym Leader’s shoulder while he played with her fingers, his arm around her waist.

“Why didn’t you become an instructor, again?” she asked after a time.

“It was predetermined that I would be the Lin Kuei’s Grandmaster and Gym Leader,” he replied, feeling her nod on his shoulder. “Sometimes I wonder what I would have done if that wasn’t the case.”

“What did you come up with?”

“Nothing, so far. It was a harder task than I thought.” Tora chuckled, turning her gaze up. The ghost of a smile danced on Bi-Han’s lips in time with the sprinkling of pink across the bridge of his nose. He looked down, catching the former Contestant’s golden gaze with his own coffee-coloured one, and pressed his lips to the crown of her head.

“I know this is a stretch, but would you like a photo with Frosmoth?” Tora sat up straight and reached for her belt. “You know, to reflect what you said during the lesson today.” At the affirming nod, she called forth the Frost Moth Pokémon. “Frosmoth, would you like to be in a photo with Bi-Han and I?” Frosmoth trilled happily and fluttered behind the pair, striking a number of poses as if deciding which one to hold.

“I’ve seen you do that,” the Gym Leader commented as he pulled his phone out of his pocket and awoke the Rotom inside.

“In my defence, it was my first time back after leaving the circuit!” Tora retorted. Bi-Han breathed out a chuckle as he adjusted some settings of his camera, then let Rotom hover a short distance away.

“Ready, Frosmoth?” The Frost Moth Pokémon trilled and spread its wings wide, sparkling scales drifting all around. Rotom began clicking away, storing the photos for review at a later time; one of the photos it saved was of Frosmoth at its glittering best serving as the backdrop to the softest of kisses between the two Trainers it represented.

✘ I will not be doing this "OC Name: *waves* Hello!" format. Nothing against it, I just personally won't use it, I like to be detailed.

I have been roleplaying for about 8-9 years and am very detailed in my responses! I try to match replies so if it's short then it's short or if it's long then it's long. I am a writer so I do put in details from time to time that may be too much so if that is ever the case please lmk and I'll tone it down.

Here is an example of my writing style for RP! -

Lucius blankly stared at his acquaintances, almost bewildered by them. "Have none of you played a game of Uno in your life?" He questioned, a slight country drawl to his words, something that often came out when he drank too much or got emotional enough. How the hell had a bunch of people his age never even seen a deck of Uno? "It's like, a classic, y'know? Have y'all been livin' under a rock?" Despite living in New York for years now, he never shook off that Midwestern talk.

Logan Howlett, by far the oldest of the whole table at the moment, gave a small snort as he let out the smoke of his cigar. "A rock? No. Runnin' for our lives is more like it. Not every day for pleasantries or domesticity." He stated firmly, before setting down a red reverse card onto the short pile. "Your turn, bub. . ." He leaned back in his seat with a huff.

his love of fighting is a byproduct from my consistent enjoyment of shonen plots, fighting games and action sequences in films. i grew up on things like dragonball & bleach, street fighter & mortal kombat, monster movies and thrillers, etc. so my enjoyment of all of that kinda merges into one big thing that i taped onto my boy here. it's fun, so he thinks so too!

originally i was going to change him into an au ra when i got around to stormblood. i adored the concept of having a big guy covered in scales and horns that i had every intention of fantasia-ing away from a miqo'te when i got the chance... buuuuut that never happened bc i got far too attached to him as a catboy. for the best, honestly.

Mortal Kombat!

Ok, so, with Mortal Kombat, a lot was learned from MK9, and I'm glad that the ones after that one actually have a story and good characters. The MK9 story line was, well, it was something. MK10 did really well on the characters, story, and atmosphere. Except for one character in particular. Baraka. They really dropped the ball on Baraka in both MK10 and MK11. Now, I haven't played MK11, but from what I understand is that Baraka almost got a redemption arc, only to be turned into a monster afterwards. Now, I don't mind if Baraka had a redemption arc or not, but like, when they killed him in MK10, I had hoped for something more.

Of course MK1 came in and exceeded many of my expectations, but also failed one of my biggest expectations. They gave Baraka a redemption arc, by making him an actual good guy, though the 'Tarkata is a disease' is weird. They made him more than just Shao Kahn's Tarkatan lackey general. Same with Reptile! They gave him a character outside of "spy for whoever's in charge at that moment". They both had wives and kids!

But oh, the pain they caused to Scorpion. They had something really good going on in MK10 with the Shirai Ryu and the Lin Kuei making a truce, and for what? Just so they can make Kuai Liang Scorpion? Bullshit. I'm glad they made Harumi her own character outside of Scorpion's Dead Wife, but like? They couldn't even make her Scorpion? Oh, but Hanzo is in one of the endings I believe. No, not as Harumi's husband, that goes to Kuai Liang again. No, as a child trainee in the Shirai Ryu. Bullshit, all of it.

Oh, but Quan Chi and Shang Tsung are actually more threatening, and I love that. Especially the manipulative asshole that is Shang Tsung.

AUs

I love modern AUs, my weakness is Chatfics. However, I hate modern AUs where they take a monster/robot/ai/etc. And make them human. Like, why? I'll use an example, AM from I have no mouth and I must scream. His whole character is a sentient AI, who hates humanity because they gave him sentience. He could never experience what being human was, and it made him angry, so he wiped out humanity. Why would you make him human? It's part of his character!

I also hate changeling, or any form of imposter fics. The reason I've grown to hate these fics, is because the majority of people who write them, use the character they headcanon as Autistic as the changeling. Changelings have a very negative response in the Autistic community for a number of reasons, but the biggest one is because it's essentially calling us fake humans. My example for this one, is the Submas portion of the Pokemon fandom. I haven't seen them recently, but they were bad during the early parts of Pokemon Arceus' release.

I also love college/highschool AUs. That goes into my love for modern AUs and Chatfics.

I hate reversal AUs as well. The ones where everything is a reverse of the mainline. They do nothing for me, and I block every one of them I see. I'm not sure why I hate them so much, but I just do. The exception to this is Shattered Glass, which is a Transformers AU. That was a reversal AU done really really well.
