Repost from @morrisonhotelgallery • Exactly 329 years ago today, colonial Massachusetts convened for the disbanding of the infamous Salem witch trials, a mass exodus of nearly 200 individuals believed to dabble in the dark arts. These days, the terms and treatment of witch lore take on a different tone as we pause at this particular time of year not to condemn but to celebrate witchy women everywhere and there is perhaps none more spellbinding than the supremely talented Stevie Nicks (@stevienicks). Visit the link in bio for an extensive collection of images paying crystalline tribute to the quintessential gold dust woman's enchanting style. — Ph. A timely follow-up to the charitable success of "Do They Know It's Christmas?" and Boy George's novel idea for another major Ethiopian benefit concert, Live Aid came to fruition exactly 34 years ago today under the genius direction of singer-songwriter/philanthropist Bob Geldof who billed the event as a "global jukebox." Hosted simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London and Philadelphia's John F. Kennedy Stadium on Saturday, July 13, 1985, the dual-venue concert featuring landmark performances from such acts as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Madonna, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Tina Turner, U2 and perhaps most notably, Queen (@officialqueenmusic). In what is unanimously considered one of the most prolific performance in rock history, the concurrent spectacular would also mark one of the largest-scale satellite link-ups and televised broadcasts of all time with an estimated audience of 1.9 billion viewers across some 150 nations, accounting for nearly 40% of the world's population. Despite the controversy surrounding a paper trail to the tune of $127 million donated to African relief by Live Aid, the overarching spirit of goodwill beheld by today's moment in music history is best spoken for by Geldof who would later say, "I'll shake hands with the Devil on my left and on my right to get to the people we are meant to help." — Ph.
