COMPLETE GUIDE TO CHOOSING THE RIGHT RUG SIZE
Rugs are a great addition to any room, adding warmth, comfort, and style. However, choosing the right size rug is crucial to ensure that it fits the space properly and looks great. In this complete guide, we will walk you through everything you need to know about choosing the right rug size.
But first, let’s talk about why it is important to choose the right rug size.
Proper fit: A rug that is too small for a space can make the room look unbalanced and can create a feeling of clutter. On the other hand, large room carpet can make the room look crowded and can make furniture placement difficult. Proper fit is essential for a sense of balance and harmony in the space.
Comfort: A living room rug that is too small may not provide enough cushioning underfoot, while a rug that is too large may feel overwhelming. Your goal should be to create a comfortable and inviting space.
Functionality: The size of the rug can affect its functionality. For example, a dining room rug that is too small may not provide enough coverage for chairs to slide in and out easily, while living room rugs that are too large may make it difficult to open doors or walk around the space.
Style: The size of the floor rug can affect the overall style of the room. For example, a small rug in a large room can make the space feel unfinished, while a large rug in a small room can make the space feel cramped. But the right size rug will help to create a cohesive and polished look in the room.
How to choose the right rug size

Determine the purpose of the rug
Before choosing a rug size, it's important to consider the purpose of the rug. Will it be used as a living room carpet or an outdoor carpet? Will it be placed below a dining table or used as a center table carpet? Will it be used to add warmth and comfort to a bedroom?
Measure the room
The first step in choosing the right rug size is to measure the room. Use a measuring tape to measure the length and width of the room, and make note of any obstacles, such as doors or furniture.
Consider the furniture placement
When choosing a rug size, it's important to consider the placement of furniture. Ideally, all of the furniture in the room should be placed on the rug, or at least the front legs of the furniture should be on the rug. This will help to create a cohesive and balanced look in the room. Rugs are not only used for aesthetics but also for that comfortable foot feel. Make sure to decide placement of the home rugs such that you and your guests experience the comfort a rug can provide. For example, bedside rugs should be big enough to provide a cozy underfoot feeling when you come out of your bed.
Don't be afraid to go big
If you're unsure about the size of the rug you need, it's better to err on the side of going too big rather than too small. A larger artisanal rug can help to create a sense of spaciousness in a room and can make the furniture feel more connected.
Choose your rug size
Once you have measured the room, you can choose a rug size that fits the space. Here are some general guidelines:
Living Room rugs: The size of your living room will determine the size of the rug you need. For a small living room, a rug that measures 5' x 8' can work well. Make sure that the rug is large enough so that at least the front legs of all the furniture in the room can be placed on the rug. 8' x 10' or 9' x 12' carpets work well for a big size living room. In a large living room, the rug can be large enough to hold all the furniture in the living area around the sofa to create a nice demarcated living space. If you prefer using a smaller rug just underneath your coffee table, it is a good idea to layer the small 3' x 5' or 4' x 6' rug with a large 5' x 8' or 6' x 9'  jute rug to get a complete look.
Dining Room rugs: To determine the size of rug you need for a dining room, measure the length and width of your dining table and add two feet to each measurement. This will give you the minimum size rug you need. For example, if your table is 6' x 4', you'll need a rug that measures at least 8' x 6'. Make sure to have a rug large enough that can accommodate the chair legs when the chair is pulled out.
Bedside rugs: When it comes to choosing a rug for your bedroom, there are a few options. You can choose a rug that is large enough to cover the entire floor under your bed, leaving a border of several inches around the edges. Alternatively, you can choose a smaller rug that will fit under the foot of the bed and extend out in front of it. For a queen-sized bed, a rug that measures 8' x 10' or 9' x 12' can work well. For a king-sized bed, a rug that measures 9' x 12' or larger may be necessary. Bedroom rugs should give a warm, cozy and comfortable feeling, hence make sure to have the rug large enough to step on when climbing in and out of the bed. In bedrooms with twin beds, a runner rug can be placed between the two beds.
Entryway or Hallway: For an entryway, a small rug that measures around 2' x 3' can work well. This size will help keep dirt and debris off your floors while providing a warm welcome for guests. If the entryway opens into a long hallway or if you have a hallway connecting different rooms, a 2.5' x 9' or 2.5' x 12' hallway runner adds a wonderful welcoming feeling and an element of excitement for the guests. Using a rug in this high traffic area is not only functional but also adds to the personality of the space.
Kitchen rugs: For a medium size kitchen, a 5' x 8' works well if you want to place a rug in the full kitchen or you can also use a 4' x 6' rug just below the cooking area for a smaller kitchen. Another option is to place the rug just below the working counter and leave the rest of the space open - here a 3' x 9' runner works well. Similarly for a U-shaped kitchen or a kitchen with an island, a runner rug 2.5' x 7' or 2.5' x 9' works well.
Choosing the right rug size is an important aspect of interior design that can affect the look, feel, and functionality of a space. By following these guidelines, you can choose a rug size that fits your space perfectly and enhances the overall style of the room.

This is a hammer comb. Combs like this are used to tightly press the weave of the rug. They're often carved with intricate designs to avert the evil eye from the textile.
