* MY BEST FRIEND IS A ROCKSTAR: (tw: death) muse a & muse b have been best friends since they were kids and grew up together. throughout their childhood, muse b had always told muse a about his plans to become a famous musician and as he grew older, became more and more determined to make those dreams come true. when they both hit their teen years, feelings eventually grew and the two were head over heels for each other but neither of them was ever able to admit it. they were both terrified that the feelings would be unrequited or that it would ruin their friendships so just imagine the angst of them seeing each other with other people and FGHDFG. anyway, when muse b finally turns twenty-one, he decides to move to hollywood to make his dreams come true, and muse a stays in their small hometown. they keep in contact with one another but as time went on, muse b becomes a huge rockstar with his band and their contact start to drift but they always had each other in their thoughts, wishing they were closer to one another. a few years pass and they still speak but it’s not like before. muse b was hugely successful and enjoyed the life he was now living but always felt like something was missing. that someone was missing… it’s not until he gets a distraught call from muse a telling him that her mother died does he rush on a private jet and comes home to her. after helping her arrange the funeral and being there for her through her grief, he suggests that she comes on tour with him and the band. wanting to run away from everything and everyone in her small town, she agrees. queue cute ass moments on the tour bus, traveling the world and falling in love like they did when they were young. add drama, angst ( because they’re both still dumb and won’t admit to their feels) stadium tours, TENSION!!!, groupies, etc, etc.

Zeus/Henry richardson - jeffrey dean morgan, looks early 50s, over 5000. The OG Daddy TM. Based ob my own canon from my olympus blog /fables comics and greek knowledge (nerd alert). He's a judge, has his powers, do not fuck with his kids (whats left of them anyway)

Henry's main (non-zeus) verse - he's a Judge in the NY Criminal court. Before this he was the district attorney. he's a widower (and a bit of a ladies' man since his late 40s but he just hadn't found the one). he's not into kids (=anyone under 35) but apparently he has 'daddy' energy and young women keep hitting on him. he has two kids Gwen (Jennifer Morrison FC, has a career in the military a& ) and Jack (Jamie Dornan, also a muse here). Jack was his late wife's child and he adopted him when Jack was 3 and they married. Gwen was born shortly after. He's dedicated and determined, a bit playful and is trying his best to de-toxisize himself. He also babysits his pre-teen granddaughter an awful lot (Jack's daughter with his late with Magda) so that Jack can go do whatever he wants. He has some investments and lives comfortably.

Morgan Carey reacted angrily to the release of his sister's 'ironic' memoir

Brother Morgan Carey of Mariah Carey snatches the singer’s ‘ironic’ autobiographical remarks. After the court records of Mariah on “intentions” of his memoir were brought out, his brother reaffirmed his opinions.

For the understood, the singer’s statement reads in People’s magazine, “The story of the increase of Ms. Mariah Carey in a dysfunctional and sometimes violent family environment has significant public importance, especially for every young person who finds himself in similar harsh and distressing circumstances and who can profit from the inspiration to pursue her talents.

Shortly after it was made public, Morgan Carey issued his own statement and rejected an “especially sarcastic” comment, which reads “it comes from a man who glamorizes her excessive drink and coins the now common word “splash” and other conduct that would be in poor taste to mention it.”

Barbara Jane Bates (August 6, 1925 – March 18, 1969) was an American singer and actress, best known for her portrayal of Phoebe in the 1950 drama film All About Eve. and as Katy Bates on It's a Great Life (1954-1956).

The eldest of three daughters, Bates was born in Denver, Colorado. While growing up in Denver, she studied ballet and worked as a teen fashion model. The shy teen was persuaded to enter a local beauty contest and won, receiving two round-trip train tickets to Hollywood, California. Two days before returning to Denver, Bates met Cecil Coan, a United Artists publicist, who she would later marry.

In September 1944, 19 year old Bates signed a contract with Universal Pictures after Cecil Coan introduced her to producer Walter Wanger. Soon after, she was cast as one of the "Seven Salome Girls" in the 1945 drama, Salome Where She Danced starring Yvonne De Carlo. Around this time, she fell in love with Coan, who was married with two sons and two daughters. In March 1945, Coan divorced his wife Helen Coan and secretly married Bates, on 25 March 1945, in Chihuahua, México.[3][4] Bates spent the next few years as a stock actress, landing bit parts in movies and doing cheesecake layouts for magazines like Yank, the Army Weekly and Life. It was one of those photo sessions that caught the eye of executives at Warner Bros. who signed her in 1947. Warner Bros. highlighted her "girl-next-door" image and her acting career took off. She appeared with some of the biggest stars of the day including Bette Davis in June Bride and Danny Kaye in The Inspector General.

In 1949, Bates's contract with Warner Bros. was terminated when she refused to go to New York City to promote The Inspector General. Despite being fired by Warner Brothers, she signed a contract with 20th Century-Fox later that year.

In late 1949, Bates auditioned for the small role of Phoebe in Fox's upcoming All About Eve. In competition for the part was Zsa Zsa Gabor and others, but Bates impressed the producers and was given the part. She made a short but important appearance as the devious schemer, Phoebe, at the end of the film. Bates's image is enshrined in the film's last scene, posing in front of a three-way mirror, while holding the award won by her idol Eve Harrington, played by Anne Baxter. This memorable final scene left critics and audiences intrigued by the young actress, who they thought would star in a sequel to All About Eve. The Hollywood Reporter said of her performance, "Barbara Bates comes on the screen in the last few moments to more or less sum up the whole action and point of the story. It's odd that a bit should count for so much, and in the hands of Miss Bates all the required points are fulfilled."

After her appearance in All About Eve, Bates co-starred in Cheaper by the Dozen, and its sequel Belles on Their Toes, with Jeanne Crain and Myrna Loy. In 1951, she landed a role opposite MacDonald Carey and Claudette Colbert in the comedy Let's Make It Legal. Fox refused to loan out Bates for the role of the suicidal ballerina saved by Charlie Chaplin’s aging vaudevillian in ‘Limelight’ (1952). She co-starred with Donna Reed as the love interests of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis in the 1953 hit comedy The Caddy.

Despite a seemingly successful career, Bates' life, both on and off screen, started unravelling. She became a victim of extreme mood swings, insecurity, ill health, and chronic depression. In 1954, she won the role of Cathy on the NBC sitcom It's a Great Life, co-starring Frances Bavier as her mother, Amy Morgan, and James Dunn as her uncle, Earl Morgan. After 26 episodes, she was written out of the show due to her erratic behavior, depression and instability. Bates tried to salvage her career and travelled to England to find work. She was signed on as a contract player with the Rank Organisation, only to be replaced in two leading roles before filming began. Bates continued to be too emotionally unstable to work and in 1957, her contract with the Rank Organisation was cancelled.

Upon returning to the United States in 1957, Bates and her husband got an apartment in Beverly Hills. Later that year, Bates made her last film, Apache Territory, which was released in September 1958. She then appeared in two television commercials, one for floor wax and another endorsing a now unknown product with Buster Keaton. In 1960, Bates's husband Cecil Coan was diagnosed with cancer. Bates put her career on hold to care for her ailing husband. The strain eventually became too much for her. She attempted suicide by slashing her wrists and was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Hospital where she soon recovered. She made her final onscreen appearance in an episode of The Saint that aired in November 1962.

In January 1967, Bates's husband Cecil Coan died of cancer. Devastated by his death, Bates's depression worsened and she again became suicidal. Later that year, she returned to Denver and fell out of public view. For a time, Bates worked as a secretary, as a dental assistant, and as a hospital aide. In December 1968 she married for the second time: to a childhood friend, sportscaster William Reed. Despite her new marriage and location, Bates remained increasingly despondent and depressed.

On March 18, 1969, just months after her marriage to Reed, Barbara Bates committed suicide in her mother's garage by carbon monoxide poisoning. She was 43 years old. She is buried at Crown Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County, Colorado.

When it comes to dividing loot, one of the central tenants of the Pirate Code set down by the pirates Morgan and Bartholomew -- as well as every other specialized code set by individual pirate captains -- was the idea of everyone getting their fair share of whatever treasure they managed to plunder, with the Captain being awarded ownership of any ships. Thus everyone in the Tower Raven’s fleet as well as the Artemis’s crew was entitled to an equal share of the treasure the Revenge’s crew had stored away on Isle de Muerta the last fifteen years. It took a while to divvy up everyone’s shares, but even with how many people there were, everyone ended up with a respectable share, all the same. Both Jacob and Orion also quickly abdicated their possible claims to the Revenge to Carewyn -- a rather generous offer to some minds, considering it was the fastest galleon on the seven seas, but Carewyn could thoroughly understood why Jacob would want no part of it. If nothing else, he already had a rather impressive fleet, and the Revenge had the same bad memories for her as it did him.

It wasn’t long after the treasure was parsed into equal shares and the Tower Raven’s fleet departed that Bill pulled Jules aside.

“It looks like our little adventure is over,” he said with a faintly wry smile.

“...So it is,” said Jules.

She wasn’t smiling. She tried, but she just couldn’t shake the feeling that Bill was worried about something. Her wary expression made Bill turn a bit more serious too.

“You know Charlie and I won’t be able to return to Port Royal,” he said softly. “Your father could likely pull some strings to keep you from being punished, especially if you claimed we forced you, but...”

“I would never claim that and you know it,” Jules cut him off, her tone very reproachful.

Bill’s brown eyes crinkled up with fondness.

“...I know. That’s why I feel a little better telling you this.”

Taking her hand, he then slowly lowered himself onto one knee. Somewhere behind him, Bill could hear a quickly suppressed gasp of delight from Carewyn, and it made him grin around his scarlet cheeks up at Jules, whose face was also alight with surprise and a darkening flush.

“Juliette Farrier -- you are, without question, the most amazing and wonderful woman I have ever met in my life. You’re braver than a lioness and you never let anything stand in your way, no matter what the squalls. In the words of Psalm 143:8, ‘show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life’ -- ”

His entire face was a brilliant ruby red by this point. He bit his lip briefly, only for his mouth to spread into an even broader smile as he tried to hold in a laugh.

“ -- so...if you could accept a pirate as your husband, over a merchant or even a man of the Church...I swear to stand by your side and love you all my days.”

Jules was visibly overwhelmed. Her face flushed and her eyes flooding with tears, she found herself starting to laugh. Then she flung herself down onto Bill, grabbing hold of him around the neck and cradling his head and shoulders.

“Yes -- yes, of course I will!”

The wedding between Juliette Farrier and William Weasley was a very informal, rushed sort of affair. Since there was no church that would’ve married them and Bill couldn’t do it himself, they held it aboard the Artemis with Orion -- being Captain -- officiating the ceremony. Charlie and Carewyn scrounged through the loot remaining in the cave at Isle de Muerta to find a handsome coat made out of brown leather, a navy blue tricorn hat, a well-shined pair of boots, a rather pretty-looking off-white dress, a gold tiara, and a translucent muslin apron. Carewyn was able to cut the apron into a make-shift veil that she then helped Jules secure in her hair with the tiara.

Orion’s version of a wedding ceremony was distinctly not traditional. Rather than quoting scripture, he made a rather bizarre analogy to beavers. To his credit, it did eventually come around to the idea that they mate for life and they build their own home out of nothing together out of whatever’s available to them, which Carewyn thought was actually rather sweet.

Once the vows were read and the bride and groom shared their first kiss as husband and wife, the crew threw a makeshift wedding party on board the Artemis, with Carewyn singing a song for Bill and Jules’s first dance.

“Lavender's blue, dilly, dilly, lavender's green When I am king, dilly, dilly, you shall be queen: Who told you so, dilly, dilly, who told you so? 'Twas my own heart, dilly, dilly, that told me so.”

Once the dance was over, Carewyn couldn’t stop herself from throwing her arms around both of them, hugging them both with all of her strength. Soon Charlie had thrown himself into the huddle too, and the four were all clinging to each other, crying and smiling all the while.

“Jules,” Carewyn said seriously, “I want you, Bill, and Charlie to take the Revenge.”

The three all looked taken aback.

“What?” said Charlie.

“It’s the fastest galleon in the entire ocean, and easily the most feared pirate ship as well,” she explained, her eyes trailing from Charlie to Bill to Jules. “It may need some fixing -- I daresay it’d be a good idea to actually patch up those leaks with more than just magic, and I figure you’ll want to christen it with a new name...but...”

Her blue eyes drifted down to Jules’s shoulder.

“...If you must be considered criminals, with no chance of reprieve...then I don’t want the Navy to ever, ever catch you. I want you on a vessel so strong and so fast...that I can never catch up to you again.”

Bill, Charlie and Jules all stared at Carewyn, their eyes filling up with emotion seeing how strong of a face Carewyn was trying to put on, despite the pain she no doubt felt. Then Jules secured her arm more tightly around Carewyn’s shoulders, resting her forehead beside her friend’s affectionately.

“And if you must stay behind...then I want you to know that we’ll always...always come for you, Carey.”

Charlie nodded, resting his own head on Carewyn’s shoulder as he squeezed her shoulder. “Always.”

Bill’s eyes were streaming with tears. He seemed too overcome by his emotions to speak, so instead he brought up a hand and smoothed some hair out of his best friend’s face, placing a soft kiss to the crown of her head. Carewyn trailed a hand through his hair to comfort him.

“Look...after Percy for us?” Bill murmured in her ear, his voice choked with tears.

Carewyn blinked back her tears as best she could. “Of course.”

Not long later, Captain Jules Weasley boarded the newly christened Revolution with her First Mate and husband Bill and her Quartermaster and brother-in-law Charlie, and the three set off for Tortuga. Orion and the crew of the Artemis had arranged to meet them there and help them with ship repairs, since it would likely only take a scooner like the Artemis an extra day to reach Tortuga after dropping Carewyn off on an island frequented by rum runners, rescued, and returned to the Navy.

The next few days aboard the Artemis was rather more relaxed than on the voyage to Isle de Muerta. Everyone was in pretty good spirits thanks to the significant pay-out, so the nights were spent on deck drinking lots of rum and singing old pirate favorites like Spanish Ladies and Yo Ho A Pirate’s Life for Me. (That last one Carewyn was even able to coax Orion onto his feet and dance with her for, and the rather drunk crew was absolutely beside themselves with laughter, seeing the broad smile and dark flush on their tipsy captain’s face.)

On the last night of their voyage, however, as the sun went down, Orion did not join the festivities. The crew wasn’t too perturbed by it, as he apparently often stayed off to the side rather than get as active as he had that previous night. Despite this, though, McNully still lifted himself up into the rigging and paid Orion a visit at the helm while the rest of the crew drank and sang down below.

“Penny for your thoughts, Orion?” he asked amusedly.

Orion glanced up at McNully serenely. “Oh, merely...meditating on what would’ve happened, had the Scorpion not appeared.”

“The Scorpion?” repeated McNully, as he cocked an eyebrow.

Orion nodded up at the sky, to a certain cluster of stars.

“The Scorpion -- Scorpio. I wonder what would have happened if Apollo had not sent him to sting the heel of the hunter Orion -- what might have been his fate, then.”

McNully glanced from the constellation to down at Orion, frowning slightly.

“Well...he would’ve kept hunting with Artemis, I suppose,” he said slowly, “like he did before.”

“Yes...but would he have been able to do that ad infinitum? Would they have been able to hunt together, side by side, for the rest of Orion’s life, until he’d lived to a ripe old age? Or, like it’s said happened to the goddess Calypso...would it be too difficult for a goddess and a mere man to walk the same path for more than a short while...when the paths set before them are destined to diverge?”

Orion’s voice was very detached, but McNully knew him well enough that he could hear the quiet intensity in his voice. This thought exercise of his had been more than simple meditation, this McNully was sure of.

The First Mate considered Orion for a moment, contemplating his answer.

“...Well...I suppose that’s something Artemis and Orion would’ve probably had to plot out themselves, if it’d come to that. Reckon those sorts of things are always a 50-50 thing, no matter who the players are.”

Orion glanced at McNully out the side of his eye. “‘Those sorts of things?’”

“Yeah -- heart-related things. In the story you’re talking about, Orion was the only man Artemis ever loved, right?”

Orion’s dark eyes flickered down to the crew below. “...Aye.”

“Well, love kind of involves communication, so I’ve heard,” said McNully amusedly, “and while I’m no expert in love, I do pride myself on my communication skills. And from where I stand, I’d say that it’s up to those people to decide whether what they’ve got is more important than what ‘path’ they’re meant for or not. And unless there’s action on one or both people’s parts, there’s a 99.5% chance that both them and everyone around them will be left wondering forever what could’ve been.”

Orion didn’t answer. McNully followed his gaze down to the newly redressed Commodore Carewyn on the deck, who was leading the rest of the crew in a sea shanty.

“Oh, the wind was foul and the sea ran high... Leave her, Johnny, leave her! She shipped it green and none went by, And it's time for us to leave her.

Leave her, Johnny, leave her! Oh, leave her, Johnny, leave her! For the voyage is long and the winds don't blow, And it's time for us to leave her.”

Orion’s eyes narrowed ever-so-slightly, darkening with an emotion that McNully couldn’t place -- then, rather swiftly, he turned and headed for the stairs that led down to the main deck.

“I’ll take the first watch in the crow’s nest, McNully,” he said levelly. “Please see that the crew finishes up soon, so that we can start our nightly rounds.”

“...Aye, aye, Captain.”

The crew didn’t pay mind to the Captain walking past them on his way to the crow’s nest, but Carewyn couldn’t help but notice that he avoided any of their eyes.

Not long after, the crew all started getting ready to go to sleep down below in their makeshift cots and hammocks. Carewyn, however, was too disconcerted by Orion’s behavior and couldn’t help but approach McNully. When she did, he merely shrugged and told her not to worry -- Orion liked to go up to the crow’s nest alone to meditate, and it didn’t always mean he was in a bad mood. All the same, Carewyn decided to stay on deck and take the watch with Orion.

McNully considered her for a moment, before he finally added an aside to her.

“While he’s meditating, there’s only about a 45% chance he’ll talk to you. But...keep in mind that there’s only about a 25% chance that he’d talk to me. ...I reckon those are odds worth chancing.”

And so Carewyn made her way up into the crow’s nest. She found Orion there, resting his arms on the railing of the crow’s nest with his eyes closed and head bowed.

She settled herself next to him, resting her arms on the railing beside his. At first she was reluctant to speak, considering how clearly focused he was despite his eyes being closed. Then, at last, the Commodore finally brushed her newly retied ponytail over her shoulder and settled on asking him.

“...Would you prefer me to not say anything, while we watch together?”

Orion was quiet for a moment. Then, without opening his eyes, he murmured, “...You could sing something.”

Carewyn smiled slightly. “All right. Any requests?”

“‘A Maid in Bedlam.’”

It hadn’t taken him long to come up with it. Carewyn’s smile spread a bit, before she looked out at the sea and sang it for him. 

“Just as she sat there weeping, her love, he came on land. Then, hearing she was in Bedlam, he ran straight out of hand -- He flew into her snow-white arms, and thus replied he: ‘I love my love because I know my love loves me.’

She said, ‘My love, don't frighten me, are you my love or no?’ ‘Oh yes, my dearest Nancy, I am your love, also. I have returned to make amends for all your injury... I love my love because I know my love loves me.’

So now these two are married, and happy may they be, Like turtle doves together, in love and unity.

All pretty maids, with patience wait, that have got loves at sea -- I love my love because I know...my love...loves...me."

A ghost of a smile had settled into the corners of Orion’s lips as he listened. When Carewyn finally finished, he opened his eyes and looked out at the horizon.

“Did you sing that song, while you were on the Revenge?” he murmured.

Carewyn looked at him in surprise.

“...How did you know?”

“A mermaid was singing the song around our ship one night while we were bound for Isle de Muerta. She said she’d learned the song from a maid locked in the brig of a pirate ship.”

Carewyn’s eyes softened in understanding. She looked back out at the sea too, her expression becoming a little more serious.

“...While I was on the Revenge,” she said softly, “I...well, I wasn’t myself, at points. I was scared, and angry...and that night...”

Her eyes darkened.

“...That night...was the worst of all of them. I don’t even know how I fell asleep. But I did, and...sure enough...there you were.”

Orion looked up, startled. Carewyn’s lips were spread in something of a bittersweet smile even though her gaze was still on the sea.

“I said you appeared in my dreams at random, but I don’t think that’s wholly true,” she admitted. “You wouldn’t appear whenever I felt cheerful or excited. Instead you always seemed to appear...whenever I was drowning. Whenever I was in a dark place...hopeless and useless. Whenever I most felt...like I deserved to be alone.”

It was strange saying any of this aloud. It made Carewyn feel oddly fragile and vulnerable. With a swallow, she put on the bravest smile she could as she forced herself to meet Orion’s eyes.

“...I guess...whenever I end up in that place...remembering when I was able to help you...it helps, somehow. It...orients me, like a compass. It helps me remember how much better I feel about myself, knowing that I can take care of others.”

Orion stared at Carewyn, his mouth slightly open as his eyes searched her expression. They rippled with an intense emotion, but Carewyn couldn’t quite place it -- was it empathy? Pain? Longing? Relief?

His kohl-lined eyes drifted down to his belt. Then, carefully, he detached his little black-lidded compass from his belt and held it up in both hands so she could see it.

“Would you like to hear the tale of how I first acquired this compass?” he asked.

Carewyn looked down at it curiously and nodded.

“It was a gift,” said Orion. “A gift from a king, who was captured by an enemy kingdom and then sold into slavery. He ended up on a ship owned by the East India Trading Company, bound for the Caribbean...a ship I’d joined as a cabin boy. I was fourteen, going under the name ‘Smith,’ as it was the only name I’d been given at the time, besides ‘boy.’

“Not long after the ship set sail, I overheard the king planning a slave revolt against the sailors on board -- and I had to make a choice. 1, I could report what I heard to the captain...or 2, I could say nothing. Instead I picked a third option -- I helped him. I left his manacles a little too loose that night and told him where he could safely maroon the sailors who didn’t want to stay. So when the revolt happened...the king dropped off the entire crew except me. I agreed to stay long enough to help him sail home, since he and his people didn’t have any experience sailing a British ship. The king named me his First Mate and asked me to call him by his given name...Amari.”

Carewyn's eyes widened in amazement. Orion smiled gently at the look on her face and nodded, before his expression grew much more serious again.

“It wasn’t long after, however, that Cutler Beckett -- the man who owned the slave ship -- sent pirate hunters out to retrieve his ‘stolen cargo.’ On our way back to the Ivory Coast, we were locked in a sea battle, and Amari was mortally injured. As he lay on the deck, he made me promise to take his family home...and once I did...he gave me his compass. I used it to safely sail us away from the pirate hunters and drop the crew off close to home, before I took the next ship out of Africa, which plopped me down in the Caribbean.

“When I landed in Port Royal, however, news had already reached the Navy positioned there of my ‘theft of Company property.’ I was immediately locked in irons, branded, and set to be hanged the following morning. I barely remember now how I managed to shake off the soldiers escorting me to the jail, but sure enough, I did...”

Orion’s dark eyes softened slightly -- he reached out to take both of Carewyn’s hand and place the compass gently in her hands, his own hands cupping around hers so that she’d hold it.

“...And, as fate would have it...ran straight into you.”

Carewyn’s wide blue eyes ran over his face in disbelief.

She’d heard so many bizarre tales of the infamous Orion Amari and his exploits, but she couldn’t for the life of her remember having heard anything about how he became a pirate in the first place. And to hear now that it was all because he’d helped a ship full of slaves return home...to keep a promise he’d made to someone he’d clearly respected...

She’d known Orion was a good man -- but she realized that before that moment, she’d had no concept just how good.

Her eyes softened upon the compass in their joined hands.

“...It’s no wonder you’ve kept it even after it broke, then,” she said gently. “It’s truly very special.”

Orion’s dark eyes rippled over her face. “Aye...but it’s never been broken, however much it hasn’t worked for me, recently.”

Carewyn blinked in confusion.

“My compass does not point North -- nor has it ever done so,” he explained. “Instead...it points to whatever you want most in this world. If you wished to find treasure, it would point you to it. If you wished to escape, it would point you to safety. If you wished to sail homeward ...it would point the way.”

Carewyn glanced down at the compass and then back up at Orion’s face, feeling a bit skeptical despite herself. The pirate captain’s mouth spread in an amused smile.

“You don’t believe me?” he asked.

“I didn’t say that,” said Carewyn primly. “It’s just...hard to believe...”

She once again looked down at the compass and then back up at him.

“...Is that really true?”

Orion’s eyes twinkled. “Every word.”

Carewyn considered him for a moment carefully, her eyes scanning his face as she thought this over.

“...So I suppose the reason it’s not working for you...is you don’t know what you want?”

Orion’s face grew a lot more solemn.

“On the contrary,” he said softly. “It’s more...that my heart is so focused on one thing...it’s made it so the compass, in my hands, will point nowhere else. Ever since you escaped the Artemis...it’s been locked in place.”

His hands adjusted on top of hers holding his compass, his thumbs resting on the sides of her wrists.

Carewyn’s gaze fell down to their joined hands -- then, her eyes slowly widening, she looked back up at Orion.

“...When you came to Port Royal...”

Orion inclined his head. “The compass was pointing me there.”

“And...Isle de Muerta...”

“I only found because the compass was pointing me there, too.”

Orion’s voice was still as level as ever, but he suddenly looked quite a bit paler. Something in the back of his calm, serene eyes seemed oddly tentative -- insecure.

Carewyn stared at him, hardly daring to believe it. If she was understanding Orion correctly, then...the thing his compass had been pointing toward...

...was her.

Her heart had swelled to a seemingly impossibly large size in her chest, almost painfully so. It made Carewyn unsure of what even to say or do -- she couldn’t contain her emotions, and was forced to cover her face in both hands, cutting herself off as she struggled to regain her composure.

At long last, she took a breath.

“‘She said...‘my love, don’t frighten me...are you...my love, or no?’”

Orion straightened up visibly as she slid her hands from her face, beaming up at him with perhaps the most emotional, most beautiful smile he’d ever seen on her face.

“‘...Oh yes, my dear Orion...I am your love, also.’”

Hello! I've always been interested in the occult and reading up on your blog is mtwah*chef kiss* it's terrible that human beings would do this to their own kind. I know you don't take celeb questions but if you don't mind my asking: do you believe Alison Carey, the older sister of Mariah Carey) was subjected to ritual abuse? You may not have heard but earlier this year she came out as a sexual assult survivor but the one that fucked her up was her own mother and now she's sueing her.smh

A brief summary on Alison. She's about 7 years older than Mariah. She claims that when she was 10 her mom told her that a friend in a car wanted to talk to her & and once she got in the car she was raped by a stranger. She claims her mom used to take her to a castle-like church in the middle of the night and watch children get murdered or raped or she herself would get raped, she also claims that someone told her that if she didn't comply with them the same thing would happen to Mariah [she was most likely 3 or a little under]. Alison also had a child and was married twice, and contracted AIDS while under the age of 17/18. Her own mother Pat claims to have a fascination with the occult and has even states it casually in an interview in the 90s, this I'm sure, Alison knew decades earlier. Alison also didn't remember the trauma until recently. In Mariah's memoir she mentioned at the time she was 10 her mom, Alison and some of her friends made her sing a song while trying to hold a seance.

There have been several reports of abuse and RA through the years regarding Mariah Carey, Alison Carey, and Morgan Carey.

For all her nervousness and self doubt about trying new things, Sasha’s choice to take Professor Beck’s had gone surprisingly well. Sure, she was struggling a bit with keeping up, but it helped that the class was actually fun. She had worried she would feel out of place in an English class when almost all of her classes were nothing but computers, math, and science. But the professor had been right about stories being engaging, even if Sasha didn’t know all the fancy English major words yet to talk about it.

But maybe it was a step in the right direction that Sasha had actually taken the initiative and asked Professor Beck if they could go over ideas for the classes next paper. Usually she just dealt with issues herself, or only sought out stuff when her advisor forced her to. Maybe it was a bit silly, but she felt a little proud of herself for it as she made her way to the English building lounge without feeling like she was going to get sick from anxiety.

When she entered there were a few others there already, but for the most part the space was empty. Still, Sasha couldn’t completely rid herself of the creeping sense of social anxiety as she entered the room and a few people turned their heads. She quickly sat down at one of the tables, placed her backpack in her lap, and rummaged through it for her class binder as she waited for the Professor.

Morgan couldn’t have felt more pleased with herself at recruiting Sasha to join her course. She found herself pretending that she hadn’t noticed some assignments come in late, but Sasha participated in class, and she had been proactive enough to ask for a meeting on her next paper. She walked briskly down to the lounge, happy to be free of her cramped shared office and get a glimpse of natural light while she helped her student out. She waved at the girl as she came over, taking care not to disturb any of the disassociating grad students from their reverie as she greeted her. “Hey! I’m, first of all, really glad you reached out. Second, I’m really excited to hear about your paper ideas. But, third, actually, why don’t you just tell me how you’re doing? I know you were kind of nervous the last time we really talked.”

“I’ve been doing okay,” Sasha smiled as the professor sat across from her. “I guess I’m settling a little more into school.” At the very least she didn’t feel like she wanted to jump out of her own skin when called on in class, or get all clammy walking through the commons when there were a lot of people there. Maybe superhero worries had left less room in her brain to worry about her daily life.

“Just trying to keep on top of things. That’s why I wanted to talk.” Well, maybe there was still some room in Sasha’s brain for school worries. The problem with being in a class with a professor she actually liked was now she didn’t want to let Professor Beck down. She shuffled through her notes in her binder, trying to find the ones on her paper topic.

“I know you mentioned we could have our paper use movie comparisons if we want but would an animated movie okay? I kinda want to compare coming of age themes with stuff in Into the Spider-verse.” Sasha didn’t see the movie as childish but she couldn’t help worrying that it came off that way to do her paper on it.

Mogan beamed at Sasha and took a peek at her notes. “I think that’s an amazing idea! There’s so many angles you can take with a piece like that. Coming of age is such a multi-faceted process. There’s struggles to conform to some preconceived ideal, coming to terms with your own power and agency? If you wanted to get really fancy, you could go back and look over the essay we read about reparative projects and think about how these ideas about coming of age speak to us right now. But, you know, it’ll definitely be an exciting project either way, Sasha. Were there any scenes you were really looking forward to exploring? That might help you find your focus.”

Before Sasha could respond, a familiar man stopped in the entryway of the lounge. Morgan went rigid, but said nothing. She hadn’t seen Doctor Ellis Carey since she and Lydia had crashed into his office. She’d made an effort to avoid his vicinity since that visit. No matter how low her opinion of him was, she hated looking at him, knowing what he’d suffered for her angst, for nothing. As Ellis lingered, trembling against his promise to act like nothing had happened between them, Morgan wondered how often he’d tried to pass near her.

Slowly, sweat rolling down his reddening face, he approached their table. He did not walk with his usual smooth, arrogant gait but staggered like a creature in a monster movie. His hands clenched with determination, and all the while his eyes stayed fixed on Morgan with a look of hatred.

“Please don’t do anything to hurt yourself, Doctor Carey,” she said evenly. “No one here wants that, including you, right?”

Ellis Carey tried to open his mouth in response but couldn’t seem to unclamp it despite his best efforts. He grimaced with pain.

The other students in the lounge began to look up from their work, watching the one-man situation unfold with morbid curiosity.

“Don’t...make...me...laugh,” Ellis hissed through clenched teeth.

Morgan winced and lowered her gaze. Sweat was dripping through his gray hair now. “Doctor Carey, I am with a student right now. And I think we’d both feel better if you took a walk outside.”

When Professor Beck grinned Sasha couldn’t help smiling back. She hadn’t thought her idea was that good, but hearing the professor explain all the ways she could go about doing the essay Sasha genuinely felt herself getting excited to write it. She went to open her mouth to explain her ideas for what scenes wanted to focus on, something strange happened.

Professor Beck’s whole demeanor changed. She was suddenly stiff, and Sasha followed her glance to see a man standing near the entrance of the longue. A professor probably, though Sasha had never run into him before. She rarely had reason to interact with many English professors. But as the sudden tension surrounding the woman across from her wasn’t weird enough, there seemed to be something seriously wrong with the man who just walked in. I looked almost like he was holding his breath, his face getting so red Sasha started to get anxious he might be having some sort of medical situation.

The man shuffled over and the cool way Professor Beck spoke to him as he stood there, sweating straight through his shirt and trembling, made the hair on the back of Sasha’s neck stand on end. What was going on? Sasha herself felt her body going tense with the sudden change in the room’s energy.

“S-should I get a nurse from the health center or-or call someone?” Sasha asked as she glanced between Professor Beck and the man. Dr. Carey looked on the verge passing out or something, but the venom in his voice put Sasha more on edge than any of his strange movements or appearance. She found herself unconsciously sinking back into her chair, making herself smaller, feeling as if she just walked into something very serious she was not meant to be privy to, even though she had just been talking with Professor Beck normally a few moments before.

“Dude, someone call the health center,” one of the students said, rising out of his seat. “Hey, do you have any medication you need to be taking, Professor?”

Blood rolled down Ellis Carey’s nose as he shook his head. He shuffled two steps further before crashing into the table they were sitting at. He turned his eyes to Sasha, bracing himself on his arms. “D-d-d-do…not…” he coughed. “Trust. Her.” He snarled.

“That is enough.” Morgan snapped her fingers at the worried undergrad. “Yes, call the health center. Doctor Carey is clearly experiencing some kind of...delirious...fever...thing!” Hastily, she shouldered her bag and stood up from her seat, so fast her chair wobbled. “Sasha, I’m sorry for this. Please email me with your questions or make another appointment o-or…”

“So you can hurt her too?” His words were slurred together, mostly nonsense vowels slipping over each other.

“No!” Morgan snapped, harshly enough to startle some of the students around them. “My conduct with my students is exemplary, thank you,” she murmured. “Sasha, I am sorry, but I think we should do this later.”

Don’t trust her. Sasha was so thrown off that it took her a moment to realize what Dr. Carey was saying. Don’t trust Professor Beck?

She fumbled with her phone, glancing around to see that at least two other students had their phone out, hopefully to call someone to help the man who was now bleeding as well as shaking and turning red. Sasha tried to remember the number for the campus health center and debated if a 911 call might be better at this point. But the Doctor’s words made her freeze up even more. Hurt her? Was he implying Professor Beck would hurt her?

Professor Beck’s response only put Sasha more on edge. “W-what are you talking about?” She wasn’t sure who she was asking at that moment. Her phone was forgotten in her hand as she looked between the two professor’s, Sasha’s other hand clenching and unclenching on her lap, claws itching to come out in defense even though there wasn’t even a fight. But the tension in the room felt like one could break out at any moment. Beyond the  painful medical situation Dr. Carey seemed to be having, there was a horrible anger in his eyes. Sasha wondered if he would have started throwing punches if he wasn’t currently so sick.

“What are you talking about?” She repeated. But even as she asked Sasha started rising to her feet at the request to leave.

Morgan hurried out of the lounge. “Nothing! I mean—I don’t know, but this is—” Her voice croaked from lack of air and she gestured nonsensically, too frazzled to know how to illustrate her point, too frazzled to be sure what her point even was. She drew in a deep breath, and exhaled. In, out. In, hold, out.

“I’m sorry,” she said at last. “I was caught off guard.” Most days she forgot Doctor Carey existed. He had a different specialty and he thought very little of her adjunct position, even when he wasn’t promise-bound to act like she hadn’t barged into his office and traumatized him. Most days, she wasn’t reminded by the sight of his hateful, tortured face. “Those are some very serious accusations to be throwing out wildly to someone you barely know.” Another measured breath. “I--I’m sorry that this happened. And whatever he meant by that, I want you to know that I would never do anything to intentionally hurt or endanger you or any of my other students.” Her good intentions hadn’t helped Blanche at all. Or Maxine. Morgan stiffened, grimacing. “I’m sorry, I think I have to finish this with you some other time, I hope you understand.” She couldn’t bring herself to look Sasha directly in the eyes and so fled down the hall without giving her another look.

As Sasha followed she was surprised by how frantic Professor Beck seemed. It put her on edge even more, seeing a teacher she had begun to look up to seems so deeply freaked out. Dr. Carey probably freaked everyone out in that room, but the way Professor Beck was shaken up felt different.

Serious Accusations. Professor Beck’s words echoed in her head. Outside of the lounge there was a moment to process Dr. Carey’s words without the look of his contorted, sweating face or the fear he might either pass out or lunge at any moment. And as Professor Beck rambled out an apology it didn’t put Sasha anymore at ease. If anything Professor Beck’s pointed denials made Sasha even more unsure of what to make of the situation. What to make of her.

All she had time to do was nod and watch the professor leave. She hadn’t realized how much her hands were shaking until after she watched her disappear down the hall. It was a mix of curiosity and genuine concern that made Sasha tentatively step back towards the lounge. She may not be the Claw right now but she couldn’t run away from someone possibly being hurt.
