#Repost @createthelove with @get_repost ・・・ Today, let’s use media to raise awareness for #WorldMentalHealthDay. • Tomorrow, let’s practice #MoreSocialLessMedia and take a 24 hour break from ALL media to connect with our selves, our environments, and our closest people. • No social media (you can automate your posts!). No podcasts. No TV. No YouTube. No news. No Netflix. No music. • It's a challenge that comes from my homie @dallashartwig and I'm taking 24 hours off with him. • I noticed about three months ago that I was getting anxiety around my phone... I needed to renegotiate my relationship to technology... so, 24 hours might be pretty hard, right?! Most of us are more connected to media than we are to ourselves, our environments, to our partners, our friends, and/or our friend and family. • It also might not be as hard as it sounds. Maybe you'll meet your new significant other! Maybe you'll step back into the void of disconnection you've felt with yourself, your partner, your kids... your work, your passions. There are people in your world who want to connect in real life. There are things to discover RIGHT NOW. • This 24 hour challenge isn’t about ignoring the world. It’s about refocusing on the parts that matter... the space and people we have our cells dancing with in real life. • The ones we can feel, touch, play with, listen to, give space for, love and learn from up close. • And if we all start to do this together, to connect, see, and support each other in the real world … well, I think we’ll all start to feel better. Or we'll see the changes we need to make to do it and we can engage our lives instead of scrolling through them. • So try this: go 24 hours without ANY media. Be present with yourself, notice your environment, and give the gift of undivided attention to your people. You can check out a free day of @dallashartwig 's #moresocialless media guide... the link for access in bio 👆🏼. I love this guy and everything he's about. • I’m starting 24 hours without media tomorrow morning. I’ll post on the weekend to share about my own experience. • I dare you to join me and tag a friend who’s up for the challenge. https://www.instagram.com/p/Boxdy0glb4j/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=eus85hi18355

The irony of sharing this video on social media is not lost on me. 😂 But I wanted to share what I do when I'm on my phone too much and get your thoughts on the matter. My friends @tamingthefrizz @kaylynpadua @the.joyful.homemaker and @mama.to.four have joined with me in this collab. The video is on my website right now. Link in bio. Their videos are linked as well! Do you ever feel that you spend way too much time on your phone or social media or comparing yourself to others? Many people use social media as a way to connect to one another, but increased use is actually associated with increases in perceived loneliness and social isolation. We want meaningful connections with other people, but we’re not really building them. Technology and media aren’t the problem—it’s how we use them, or how we let them use us.
On today’s Broken Brain Podcast, our host, Dhru, talks to Dallas Hartwig, co-founder of the Whole30 program and co-author of two New York Times best selling books, It starts with Food and The Whole30. His newest program, More Social Less Media, helps people change their relationship with technology and media in order to connect with real life.
In this episode, Dhru and Dallas talk about how to use technology and social media as a tool,  and not let it rule your life, or your mental health. They discuss how to change your relationship with technology and how to create more meaningful human connection. We also hear about community and friendship and why they are so important to our mental health and overall wellness goals, and how to ultimately bring more connection into our lives.
In this episode, we dive into:
Dallas’s transition from best-seller The Whole30 to a focus on full-spectrum health (2:08)
The impact of disconnection (6:07)
What the modern technological world does to our brains (9:48)
Developing awareness of how media and technology affect us and how to create more meaningful human connection (18:10)
How technology impacts our productivity and what to do about it (23:25)
Creating healthy boundaries for technology and media (29:39)
How to live with technology and media in a healthy way (42:47)
Dallas’s More Social Less Media program (51:25)
Dallas’s new book (59:20)
Learn more about Dallas and his work (62:48)
The benefits of doing a social media detox (63:53)
I know you’ll love this episode of The Broken Brain Podcast as much as I did.
Wishing you health and happiness,
Mark Hyman, MD
