rereading the hivebent commentary makes me so annoyed that people are never really willing to analyze the actual effects that alternian culture clearly had on every troll, especially the highbloods. pretty much the only troll who ever actually gets taken in the context of her upbringing is vriska.
no one ever seems willing to think about the character arcs of trolls like equius and terezi, who are also bluebloods with extremely hypocritical and toxic understandings of the people around them-- equius is boiled down to a gross creep who is just like that naturally and definitely didn't get it from his society in any way, whilst terezi is scrubbed of virtually all her flaws and turned into a strange sort of based love interest character who is all about being gay and too cool to be tricked by any of the alternian propaganda. quadrants? classism? how silly! terezi would never believe in stupid shit like that. she's quirky! and GAY!
despite the fact that equius and terezi both obviously have much, much more to their personalities than that-- and the alternian empire is informing way more dangerous things about these kid's beliefs than "kiss annoying people".

#Nothing to say. A good episode. A good season.#I love Oda. I love his voice perhaps even more lol#I should look for an improvement of the video quality... To say it's 1080px mkv :/ But the latest upload on N/yaa is too heavy#The op visuals of the untold origins arc are very good. The songs are good too#Although I suppose I may just be nostalgic ahah#I like fuku/fuku... Especially this young bittersweet flavour#Fuku/fuku have so many “couple who for some reason broke up but who still love each other more than anyone else” in this episode.#What do you mean they keep calling each other.#What do you mean Fukuchi won't hesitate to help Fukuzawa even after he refused to join his group.#Mmmmhhh... One more thing#There's so much emphasis on Christianity in bsd. It makes sense for Atsushi and Dostoyevsky I suppose due to the irl authors‚ but...#Why was Oda handed a Bible in this episode? Why was Ango carrying a Bible with him in the Beast movie?#When you take into account that Christianity only makes for 1.5% of religious believers in Japan‚ it's just curious.#But maybe I'm missing something? Was Oda-author Christian too?#Then again I can really feel this wider underlying pattern which... Exceeds the characters in a way?#It's mostly details so it'd be hard to list them but... Idk.#Why was there a cross behind Kunikida when he witnessed the little child die.#🤔#That would be all. This season is very beautiful and I love Mushitarou but can't WAIT to get back to Atsushi I miss him 🥺🥺🥺#random rambles

soooooo popping into your ask box -- do you have any ocs youd like to share more about? :D
OMG HIII! YES—i in fact do! meet tala (first image—she’s green) and her sister, ligaya (second image—she’s yellow) my dc ocs!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i talked about tala here but to give a summary: she’s a filipino-american that’s OBSESSED with magical girls that when she gets power from being green lantern (aka has the ability to construct anything from her imagination) she pretends to be a magical girl called “sentinel stars” contrary to popular belief, the stars isn’t (just) a reference to sailor moon, but her name, which means goddess of stars. her mom named her
while she does her best to appear an optimistic person (as a symbol of peace as a “magical girl”), in reality she struggles a lot with loneliness. since her mom’s death, she’s been on her own. her dad is always busy with getting shifts for work whereas her sister, ligaya, pushed her away from their once close bond. anime is her way to fill the lonely void and being a magical girl (hero) lets her pretend to be someone she’s not: a lovable person
for ligaya—her name means happiness. yet, she’s the opposite of happy. emotionally distraught from her mom’s death, she pushed her family away. the best way to put her demeanor is batman—forever haunted by her mom’s death. it’s only by joining cheerleading in high school does she become happier; she found a support system. where she isn’t reminded of her mom’s death. she spends all her time surrounded by ppl while tala is alone
it’s good that ligaya has that support system. because in universes she doesn’t… lets just say she doesn’t end up being the best (in an au, she becomes a yellow lantern, which is fueled by fear. she uses her own fear to fuel herself and control others in her desperation to keep People Safe. they’re green lanterns worst enemies. but ligaya is tala’s sister no matter what universe she is & when she uses her powers to keep her safe despite being opposite sides on the battlefield… she’s only more convinced of that)
ligaya does care for tala though. when she’s injured, she’ll look after her injuries (despite her complaints). she’ll toss things at her face—but they’ll be tala’s favorite manga. and even after everything that happened… when tala is crying, she’ll sing her favorite song and hold her to remind her little sister she’s not alone

Having of those moments where I wish to yeet the like button into the sun or maybe make it so there was setting you could turn on so that people can only reblog posts (even better with the minimum requirement of adding at least one tag)!!
It's kind of absurd that one of my fics is getting close to 500 notes while simultaneously being one I've had the least actual human interactions come from. Like...... come on, that's now how it should be AT ALL!
Don't get me wrong, I'm so thrilled people are clearly finding it and I guess enjoying it(??) but just having endless likes without people letting me know what they enjoyed about it or even if they liked it kind of makes me sad. That's not why I want to share my writing here!
I love having those little human connections with others. I don't ever want my writing to feel transactional. I would love to talk to more people about things I've written. It's truly one of the best feelings and I would hate to lose that, the more I write or the more notes my fics get. Please don't be shy!! I get the social anxiety, but there is no reason to be. I am truly just a Din Djarin obsessed loser.
Anyway, whine over. I don't want to focus on the negatives here and I appreciate every single person who has ever left a positive interaction with something I've written. You are truly a light!
#i don't JUST like posts too often#really the only posts i dont reblog but like are to save for later or if it's too personal/explicit#or i guess i have nothing to add and OP has said it all yknow#but if i see some writing or art i love then hell yeah i always force myself to add at least one tag i like just so the artist/author sees#otherwise it feels like a hollow transaction and i really want people to know i appreciate their art more than just pressing a button yknow#and I KNOW it's intimidating at first to interact with others!! TRUST ME i get it and i'm still awful at it#but just one little comment can make someone feel so good about their writing... why wouldn't someone want to try that at least#especially if you enjoyed it!!! even a key smash or a string of emojis!!!#and the death of the tumblr tag is SO SAD because where else am i meant to talk to you lot?#i mean these tags are longer than my actual post and that's the beauty of tumblr#you don't have to perceive me down here but you can if you wish and i love you for that!#and it's a nice way to organise your blog to make it navigable for others#ANYWAY said i was done whining and continued whining down here so there's that LOL but i always want to interact with more people#please do not be afraid of reaching out to me! scroll through my blog for 5 seconds and you'll see what a nerdy loser i am#akdjgds i mean aren't we all here#spud rants#writing#but thanks again to anyone who leaves nice comments im giving you a (consensual) forehead smooch MWAH

haha yeah i get it the symbol of the new fishman pirates is a (literal) hollow imitation of the symbol of the sun pirates, so intent on their hatred of the humans that they have stripped away its original purpose. thats cool .

i get why people would opt to say walter was a terrible person since the beginning, but i think that's like, the most boring takeaway you can get about his character. he was already insecure and prideful from the start, and it's what would hurt him and keep hurting him. but like, being insecure and prideful are regular traits any regular person can have. the actions that he makes because of these traits, which in turn keep fueling his ego more and more, are what makes him an interesting character. and he was already pretty capable of hurting other people, but he wasn't doing it out of malice, but more because of careless selfishness at first. what makes walter terrifying is that the more he does it, the more he becomes aware of what he's doing, and the more he keeps going and keeps being more and more meticulous and deliberate about what he does that hurts people and even to the point when it was specifically to hurt people.
i think the traits were there in walter from the beginning—the pilot did a pretty good job of establishing how powerless he's felt all his life and just how susceptible he is to letting this newfound perceived power get to his head so easily. he even says this explicitly in 5x06 "Buyout" when he tells jesse "i'm not in the money business, i'm in the empire business". but saying he was this monster from the start kind of implies he didn't undergo through a character arc throughout the show when it's quite literally what he did. he got worse. so much worse. through mostly the fault of his own fragility.
#idk if i put it into words right but i'm just musing#was walter a good person when brba started? up in the air. but his family genuinely adored him. despite feeling like a loser teacher#some of his coworkers actually really liked and respected him. he was just as much of a regular person as anyone else was tbh#you know it's interesting that he and gale basically have the same motivations. why jump to meth of all things. why go from 0 to 100 when#it sounds COMPLETELY ridiculous. but they were both very passionate about chemistry who felt like their potentials were wasted and felt#like they were finally putting their skills to good use again. getting to flex their muscles and shit. whenever they cook better purer meth#than most other people. i think it's a really genius idea to have this premise for the show lol#cz as much as walter is motivated by him feeling like he desperately has to take control of his own life he also is a scientist at heart#who desperately needs to apply his knowledge and skills somewhere where it would feel gratifying#seriously dude you could've tried to get a paper published or two or something. djhdidhd#but the academe has its own Politics and whatnot. so one could only speculate why walt didn't get to pursue that any more#(aside from the whole grey matter industries thing)#anyway uhhh i hope i get the post across lol not to sound cheesy cliche but brba is a corruption slash character deterioration arc#quite literally the whole point is that he Didn't Start Off Like This And He Gets Worse#again. he already had some of his bad tendencies and traits but it's like. we all do that's not necessarily inherently make or break#it's what he DOES and KEEPS DOING. CONSCIOUSLY that turns him into the horrifying man he is by the end of it all#so i just think if your biggest takeaway is Walter Was Always A Monster then you're just missing the whole damn point#op#brbaposting

i don't think i'll ever get over how people treat kids that aren't good in school as worthless no matter what. "oh it can't be that bad" my guy idk how to tell you this but the last time i went to a normal high school the principal called me into his office to brag about how he failed me in all of my classes before the semester was even finished & i should quit while i'm ahead cuz i'm too stupid ("officially" diagnosed as such by a school counselor & a psychiatrist!!) to succeed. & this is considered normal
#''poor teachers!!'' yeah well at least they can fucking quit & go work somewhere else#''okay but times are different than when you went to school in the 1970's'' this was 2016 my guy. shut the fuck up#''well maybe you were a violent & severely misbehaving kid!'' i wasn't. i have ADHD & severe anxiety disorder & depression#my biggest crime was being too exhausted & dopamine deprived to do my homework#my dad talks about how he was treated in school & i'm like damn dude i went through the same exact shit#how is it that a majority of teachers & principals are still abusive power-tripping pieces of shit 60 years later#why haven't things changed#well actually the answer is simple & it's because they want disabled people to disappear#& if abled students that simply disagree with the way things are done get caught in the crossfire then that is acceptable#because anyone not fit to make billionaires a billion more dollars should just die!#anyways here are my original tags from that gravity falls post i just reblogged:#I know this is supposed to be an appreciation post but like. ''for being the ''dumb one'' he's surprisingly rational.'' seriously??#as ''the dumb'' but ''surprisingly rational'' one of my family this is THEE biggest misunderstanding & it drives me up the fucking wall#just because a person struggles in one area doesn't mean they're stupid & should be an irrational dumb dumb idiot baby holy fuckkk#sorry to OP but even when people try to ''appreciate'' stuff like this they can't help but throw in insults#simply because they genuinely believe that ''even though you're stupid you SURPRISINGLY act competent sometimes'' is a compliment#I'm less mad about this & more sad that this kind of shit is still so prevalent in 2024#both Stanley & Stanford are smart & competent & rational#they just show it in different ways & exceed in different (sometimes overlapping) subjects#this is normal for human beings but the big societal scam is that if you don't do it in the way Ford does then you're stupid & a failure#& being surprised that Stan is also smart & competent in his own ways is the biggest sing that you fucking fell for it dude#btw before i get @ ed for this. i WAS that kid#i was so much that kid the school actually diagnosed me with stupid & spiteful & i was told to quit while i was ahead (they failed me befor#obviously this is very personal for me but also i don't think people realize the language they use is on purpose & it's used specifically t#& it's still happening right now & that just. makes me wanna cry honestly#like why are people still surprised that people can specialize in something despite bad grades in school#you know. the thing we all know is literally rigged to either put you in jail or in a factory to make billionaires more money.#man sorry for the rant the original spirit of the post is super correct but like fuck HS grade-centric judging of people's entire character#Stan being able to defeat Bill is just not at all surprising if you were him or knew/know someone like him#or really paid any attention at all to the show while watching it

I always get a little nervous and uncomfortable when I see people with dni's in my notes, especially the ones that include or are even centered around how people engage with fiction. It's just so fucking scary how expressing any kind of discomfort or disagreement with these practices of performative outrage over complex and personal topics immediately gets people vitriolically assuming the absolute worst things possible in the world about you. Like how did so many people's thinking because so black-and-white and gain this kill switch for cyber-bullying??? It's fucking scary!!!!!!!
It also drives me crazy how so many different things are shoved under the same umbrella, and just talking about one aspect of it will get people trying to correct you that it's "really about x" and casually bring up the most upsetting topics in the world like that's a conversation you can just broach with a stranger you know nothing about. It's not! It's really really not! Do not do that!! For the love of god!!
It's just like, the clearest possible example I can think of of the phenomenon of people becoming so entrenched in an aspect of online culture that they become no longer are aware of how incredibly bizarre and extreme and unkind their behavior is. It's all just so, so, so deeply, unbearably presumptuous.
It's presumptuous to assume you can talk about sensitive topics with strangers, it's presumptuous to assume you know what's going on in someone else's head, that if they interpret a story in a way you hate and don't understand, that MUST mean they saw it in the exact same way you did but had an Evil reaction because they're Evil. That it's not possible to have something resonate with you due to personal experiences and decide to imagine the story differently to acomodate that. That even having that idea OCCUR to you is a surefire sign of Evil, rather than simply a neutral example of the breadth of human experience and imagination.
That being interested in exploring scary and fucked up human behavior safely through fiction is an inherently Suspicious thing to do. That no one moral or kind would ever ever be interested in doing something like that. Like. Classic novels about terrible topics and characters exist and are popular for a reason. No single person can judge what does or doesn't have literary or emotional value to someone else. It's just so presumptuous and close-minded and unkind and I'm so sick of seeing it like it's expected song and dance you must perform to prove you're not One Of Those "Freaks".
(Terrible word to use as a genuine angry insult against Weird people. Like we all know where that word came from right. We are all aware and sensitive to that history. Ok just checking.)

I'm sorry, Mari, I know you don't want to talk about it anymore, but why is it so problematic to repost other photos? I feel like one of the biggest reasons people do it is because they don't know why. I understand that you can't publish images of chapters that have to be paid for like webtoon or merch (although I don't know why either) but wmmap has already ended years ago so I don't understand what the problem would be.
Yeah, it's as you've said, firstly, because most of it is paid content. That's why you'll see that manhwa accounts on Twitter almost always post proof of them having purchased the chapters. Secondly, because this fandom has a huge reposting problem in general (art, fics, translations, edits, etc). For "regular" pictures I have less of an issue, but if it's "exclusive" content, I feel like I'm already edging the line of what is respectful to publish/leak. Yes, there are hundreds of illegal uploads of the manhwa, but that's not something I wanna promote. I wanna encourage people to support the author. Spoon has also spoken about this a bunch of times. But I guess some people might disagree with my stance.
Let me put it like this. When I stay up until 5am to watch a Chinese stream and get news about the donghua, and people immediately repost the pictures without keeping my @, it's tiring. When I spend my own money to attent Spoon's art class (at 3am), take notes, work with Japanese and Chinese fans/friends to provide English fans a translation and summary, and people immediately repost it without asking, it makes me wonder why I even bother. The last thing I want is to sound all "oh, woe is me" though, that's why I haven't spoken about this many times (I believe this is the second time in 4 years I bring it up).
For pictures that have translated content (such as what Lithi does), I think it's way worse, because you are basically "stealing" their labor without any credit. Fan translators already operate in a grey area, legally speaking. There has been a lot of drama in the fandom around this subject, and in general, translators hate to see their work reposted. Most of them have deleted their translations because of this (Ever wonder why you can't find fan TLs of the novel very easily anymore? Lithi has also deleted a bunch of her novel posts and I don't blame her). Sure, reposting a single picture/page might not be big deal, but this has happened a million times.
And then there are instances when people straight up copy posts word for word, pic for pic, which is just kinda annoying/comes across as clout-chasing. Not reposting other people's posts is kind of online etiquette.

Honestly what kind of changed the way I view One Piece was when I realized that Oda's transphobia isn't just a side-effect of him having an "outdated" view of trans people, but also like
One Piece is very much about Letting People Live How They Want To
And that includes not just queer people in general, but every single transfem person who either doesn't pass or doesn't want to pass, it includes not just the "acceptable, normal trans people" but also the kinda weird and/or horny ones.
Because Queer Liberation is for everyone
Like don't get me wrong, Oda may not fully understand the difference between GNC and trans people, and most of his transfem/GNC men (only lumping them together because Oda does that) look identical to how gender crits would draw "a trans person infiltrating women's spaces!!!!11!!!". And he does seem to have some actual gender essentialist beliefs (Luffy being "a vegan if he was a girl"........... Bro) with a healthy dose of misogyny thrown on top Generally speaking, it would be nice if his queer rep was more like 50/50 with the """"normal"""" (this is One Piece you know exactly what I mean) and weird queer characters instead of like 95% weird. Not just because it'd give queer people more characters we might actually want to relate to and see ourselves in, but also because it would maybe help drive home to queerphobic readers that One Piece is in-fact for Queer Liberation instead of supporting their beliefs that queer people are just "kinky men who like to wear women's underwear because they're delulu".
All this to say; no, the queer rep in One Piece is still kinda Not It. It could definitely be better*. Like I said at the begining though, realizing OP specifically has the belief that everyone should be allowed to live how they choose to and be free (something Luffy dreams of becoming, the most free person in the world aka Pirate King)... IDK it just changed how I view Oda's transphobia. Because it truly does not come from any sort of malice, it's just... misguided support
(*In fact, One Piece has/had the potential to be so extremely pro-Queer. Like we know trans people play a HUGE role in the Revolutionary Army and helping take down the Government already. We saw a FUCK TON of Queer people being held in Impel fucking Down, the giant prison facility that's meant for "the worst criminal's the world had to offer" that the government had to put away somewhere. I know the implication with the imprisoned queer people in Impel Down was that some/a lot of them were already imprisoned there for some other reasons (probably) and simply transed themselves because being a funny little queer in Newkama Land was a billion times better than being tortured by guards in the jail. Which is understandable. But like, my question is... How many of these people were imprisoned in Impel Down because of some crimes they commited, and how many were imprisoned for being queer? One Piece never exploring queer rights within its world is an absolute fucking shame. It is such a missed opportunity. Like all Oda needed to do was say "it's illegal to be gay on Island XYZ, these people were imprisoned in Impel Down for being queer". Just that, just one island could completely reframe how being queer is seen in this world. It would completely reframe the Revolutionary Army's queer participants, and it would not just remind the readers about why the World Government is Bad, but also drive in for those queerphobic readers that One Piece is, in fact, pro-queer. Like really rub it like salt into their wounds.)

also sorry but if a conversation is about what something means it doesn't feel like the place to talk about how rude or tactless it is. we're having an autistic conversation can we move past "people will be hurt by that." well at least in this situation the person who could have been hurt by it wasn't. people might be hurt by that but you know what that's a separate discussion
