When Somebody Loved Me 🌸

Back when it was Jttw days & they were ⤴️ traveling with the group

Modern day & maybe reincarnated Crepe ⤵️

So naturally...

EDIT: it's fixed now 😊
The more things change to more, they stay the same (at least that's something I hear often enough 🤷♀️)
Ramblings below
This is my own interpretation of modern day!Sun Wukong and what he became after the events Jttw. He's still the same powerful Sun Wukong we all know, & love (despite questionable morals), but He has full dad bod underneath his depressed, "but totally over it" single man pajama sweats. The blue bead on the end of his braid was made from Crepe's blue glass bead earring.
He lives almost entirely on Flower Fruit Mountain, only occasionally coming down & and amazingly, he ended up finding an extremely familiar face 🤔✨️
#original outfit from my own brain juice!#Good job Brain! High-five! *smacks forehead* ✨️🧠 👏 👍#Crepe still hates working customer service. she's not made to be constantly peppy & helpful to jerks#i had fun designing the book's spines 📚 💕#sun wukong#my art#crepe#sun wukong x crepe#mordern day au#jttw au#jttw x reader#jttw sun wukong#jttw#ittw#isekai'd to the west#books#modern!reader#modern!Wukong#depress!Sun Wukong#but TOTALLY OKAY! he definitely over “it”#reincarnation#implied reincarnation#the monkey king#wukong#sun wukong x reader#jttw sun wukong x reader#ittw sun wukong x reader#wukong x reader#ittw sun wukong#yandere sun wukong

After hours teaser
“When was the last time you took a break, Berdara?” His quiet voice broke the silent night air. She waved him off, still hunched over the text, eyes barely looking up.
He drifted closer to where she sat at his long desk. The breadth of it made her look small. He stopped opposite her and leaned his palms against the dark wooden grain. His shadows were agitated and aching to go near her as if to console her.
As always let me know if you want to be tagged lovelies <3

No Erase
violet "vi" x female reader — 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞'𝐬⠀𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭
summary: on valentine's day, and you've finally worked up the courage to write a letter to your crush confessing your feelings. unfortunately, your friend accidentally gives the letter to the one person you can't stand. warnings/themes: fluff, one sided enemies, valentines, kissing cam, angry confessions, fast burn ig, high school, mordern au words: 10.9k
You look at the letter in your desk, which you spent at least six hours working on to make sure it's perfect. Not just to make sure the words you're choosing are perfect, though—you want to make sure your handwriting is perfect enough that it doesn't look sloppy.
You grab the letter and read it over one last time… lovey-dovey bullshit, sappy stuff, romantic nonsense, etc.
You cringe at the last words, “Meet me at the bleachers... break time.”
It's so cliché, so stereotypical, and maybe you've had a couple too many cheesy romance movies in the past month. You've probably read a dozen fanfics that start like this.
If it were done by anyone other than yourself, you'd think it was absolutely dumb and corny as hell.
You know you could just message them through snapchat or on insta, or facebook, even just confessing through their email is a good idea… but, no, you just can't do that.
What if you say the wrong thing? what if you just happen to say something extremely cringy in your message? what if they screenshot it and put it on their story for everyone to see? what if they reply with “who is this...?” what if they start ignoring you?
Plus, you love your phone too damn much, and you know you're gonna end up throwing the damn thing because of the absolute panic you're gonna feel when your finger hits that send button.
You probably should have just sent a carrier pigeon or something… at least they could eat that.
Oh wait.
You forgot one thing.
You look around your room, trying to figure out what you left out. Your penmanship is on point, the words are as romantic as they could be, and the grammar is perfect... but what's missing?
The perfume.
The bottle of perfume is on your dresser, hiding behind the jewelry case. You spray it liberally, making sure the paper absorbs the smell of it, before finally folding it up neatly and placing it in the envelope. You seal the envelope with a kiss to the paper and hope it's the ‘special touch’ that it needs.
The smell is nice, just enough to have the paper absorbing it nicely, but not enough to be overwhelming (even if you love the perfume to death). You also want your recipient to be able to read the letter without cringing.
Okay, now it's really done. It's romantic, it smells good, and it's as perfect as you can get it.
Tomorrow's the day, and you finally feel confident. You have everything ready to go, you just have to figure out how to get your friend to deliver it to your crush's locker.
As you get ready for bed, the only thing you can't stop thinking about is how tomorrow will go.
Will they love the letter? will they finally realize the feelings you have for them and confess their own feelings? who knows?
—
“Come on,” you whine, begging Ekko for the fifth time. “Just do me this favor, please?”
Ekko just scoffs and gestures to the table. “I already told you, I have all of these-” he motions to the dozens of letters in front of him, “-that i'm supposed to deliver for girls that are crushing on Caitlyn.” He sighs. “I can't add any more to my to do list.”
“Please?” you beg, waving the envelope at him. “It's really important.”
Ekko groans and slumps forward, resting his chin on the palm of his hand. “Why can't you just deliver it yourself?”
“It's kinda.. embarrassing… for me to deliver it myself…” You fidget awkwardly.
“Ugh.” Ekko groans again but gives in. “Fine,” he relents, sitting up straight and grabbing the letter from you.
“Thank you.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Ekko waves his hand dismissively. He stands up and stretches out, letting out a deep sigh as he does. “Just remind me what locker number it is?” he asks, shoving the letters into his bag.
“Locker number is 13 C,” you reply, watching as Ekko slings his bag over his shoulder and starts walking out of the cafeteria. “It's pretty much right next to Caitlyn's, so you won't be missing it.”
“Got it,” he says, turning around and flashing a grin at you. “See ya later.” He gives you a salute before he disappears.
Finally.
After months of keeping your feelings quiet, your secret would be revealed. You just have to hope that it doesn't blow up in your face.
—
Ekko walks down the hallway, scanning through the numbers above the lockers until he finds the one he's looking for.
Caitlyn's locker.
He scans the area for any sign of Caitlyn, and luckily for him, the coast is clear.
He pulls out the envelopes from his bag, each one slightly crinkled from being stuffed in there. He counts up the total- ten, no, twelve... wait. Fifteen? that's more than he thought, he could have sworn there were less. He dumps all the letters on top of the locker hole.
He looks down at the remaining letter in his hand. Right, that one isn't for her. He sighs and places the letter next to her locker, just like he was told to do.
He gives the locker one last look but doesn't give it a second thought and starts walking away, whistling as he goes.
But... what Ekko didn't know is that instead of placing it into the locker next to it, he accidentally dumped it into 11C, aka, Vi's locker.
—
You wait at the entrance of your school, impatiently bouncing on your feet. Valentine's day is tomorrow, and you can't wait for your crush to read the letter you poured your heart into.
Then, you spot Ekko, and you're quick to greet him. “Hey!” You throw an arm around his shoulders. “So, did you put it in?”
He nods, gesturing to the school doors. “Yeah, I did.”
You sigh, relieved that the letter is in your crush's locker and will likely be seen by them soon. “Thanks.” You give him a squeeze on the shoulder before letting go of him. “I seriously owe you one for this.”
Ekko just brushes you off. “It's nothing.” He shrugs and shoves his hands in his pockets as you start walking into the courtyard. “Just doing my good deed of the day.”
“Mhm, hopefully tomorrow goes as planned,” you say, “I just hope they like it…”
—
Tomorrow finally comes, and it's the day you've been patiently waiting for. Valentine's day.
You're in your first class, waiting for your teacher to come in. You're distracted, your mind racing with thoughts about what your crush thinks of the letter.
Then, someone suddenly sits next to you, and you turn to look at-
“What the hell?” you blurt out, looking at Vi as she makes herself comfortable in the chair.
Vi smirks. “Hey,” she greets.
That smirk alone pisses you off.
You still haven't gotten over the fact that because of her, your grades had taken a nosedive. The two of you had been paired together in science class, and she'd somehow managed to blow up the experiment, all because she wasn't paying attention.
“What the hell are you doing here?” you snap, glaring at her.
She simply glances at you, then back at the desk she's sitting on. “What do you think? I'm sitting.”
The audacity?
“I know that, but why are you sitting next to me?”
“Come on, don't act like you don't know.” She throws in a wink, and your disgust quickly multiplies.
“Excuse me?” you sputter, completely caught off guard by her sudden flirtatious behavior.
“You really gonna act like you don't know?"
“No?”
She scoffs and leans towards you, smirk on her lips. “I mean,” she adds, eyeing you up and down, “I thought you'd be... happy... to see me.”
You're stunned, confused, and quite frankly, grossed out. “Happy to—WHY ON EARTH would I be happy to see you?” you spit out.
She huffs and slumps back into the chair. “Oh wow, thanks for the warm welcome.”
“Well, what did you expect? You haven't exactly been... pleasant to be around.”
She narrows her eyes and opens her mouth to reply but stops short as the teacher enters the classroom.
She finally shuts up, and you're left wondering what just happened. Why in the world is someone who is a pain in your butt cheeks suddenly flirting with you? is there something wrong with her? or has she lost her damn mind?
—
It's recess, and you're sitting on the bleachers, waiting for your crush to show up.
Your palms are sweating, you're starting to worry that your armpits are going to start smelling, you're probably going to end up throwing up on someone's shoes.
The letter was probably too much. The words were too romantic. The whole cliché “meet me at the bleachers” thing was just cringe. Who wrote that? oh right... you did.
But even if the outcome isn't what you hope for, at least you've got a good story to tell later or maybe a good reason to drown yourself in ice cream and cheesy rom-com movies.
You look around the bleachers once, twice, three times. You try to avoid glancing at your phone, but the urge to check the time only grows stronger.
It doesn't help that a couple of assholes are sitting a few feet away from you, loudly laughing at some video playing on one of their phones.
Recess is almost over, and your crush is still not here. Where the hell are they?
Maybe they could possibly be in the bathroom, having a nervous breakdown like you were? or maybe they're just taking their sweet time, making sure they're looking perfect?
Or maybe they're not coming at all.
And then you hear footsteps coming your way,
THIS IS IT.
Is your hair okay? yes. Are your teeth brushed? yes, dumbass.
You quickly wipe your sweaty palms, trying to calm your racing heart. You turn around, ready to see the face of an angel, the face of a goddamn god-
But instead you see the face of someone you'd rather shove into a brick wall.
Vi.
Why the hell is she... smiling at you?
“Damn, you look good from this angle.”
WHAT?
Why is this goddamn lesbian here with that stupid smile on her face?
“Why are you here?”
“Isn't it obvious? I'm here to see you.” She pulls out an oddly familiar envelope from her pocket and holds it in her hand, and you realize why it's so familiar.
Wait... that's your letter!
The one you wrote to your crush. The one that's meant to be in their locker, not in her damn hands.
How the hell did it end up with her?
She looks at the envelope, studying the handwriting on it, and then her eyes lock with yours again. “This is yours, right?”
Your hand quickly snatches the envelope from her hand. “How the fuck did you get that?”
Vi quickly snatches the envelope away, holding it out of your reach. “Whoa, woah, wait-”
“Give me that!” You lunge for the envelope, but she sidesteps you.
Vi laughs, holding the envelope away from you. “Isn't this for me?” She opens the envelope and throws it aside, then pulls out the letter and starts reading it aloud. “Dear... what the hell, how do you... whatever. Dear blah, blah, blah, happy valentine's da-”
“-SHUT UP!” You try to snatch the letter again.
“Hey, I'm not done reading it yet! This is my valentine's gift, after all.”
“That letter is meant for someone else!”
“Really? Then why did I find it in my locker?”
“Wait, what? You found it in—you're joking, right?”
She shakes her head, waving the letter in front of you. “Nope, I'm not joking.”
“How did you-”
“Someone put it in my locker.”
“That's impossible! I would never—I mean to you? there's no way that was meant for you.”
Vi squints at the words in the letter, then looks up at you again. “But this is definitely written in your handwriting, right?”
How did it end up in her locker? and how the hell does she even know what your handwriting looks like?
Your eyes dart from the letter in her hands to her face. Yes, it's definitely your handwriting. Yes, it's definitely the same stupid letter you wrote because you're a hopeless romantic.
“Maybe,” you grumble.
“Maybe? so it is yours?”
You avoid her gaze, avoiding her smug look.
She starts reading over the letter again, reading it aloud. “Meet me at the bleachers, how goddamn cliché-”
“STOP READING IT!”
“Damn, I didn't think you could be this corny.”
“Shut up, just-” You try to snatch the letter out of her hand once again, but she pulls her arm away.
“You wrote this much for someone?”
“Why do you care so damn much, anyway? You didn't get a valentine gift or something?” and now you're just being bitchy as well.
“What are you, ten?” she retorts.
“And what are you, an idiot?”
“I'm not an idiot, unlike you.”
“Oh, wow, are we back in sixth grade now?”
She looks down at the letter. “I'm not the one who wrote a heartfelt letter for someone who probably doesn't even like you.”
“And how the hell would you know?”
“Have you even talked to them before?” She lifts her head, her smirk coming back when you didn't answer. “Since whoever the hell you have a crush on doesn't like you-”
“They could still-”
“See, everyone has a valentine. Well, almost everyone, which means your crush probably got one too.”
“Yeah, 'cause you got that letter they were supposed to receive.”
“Maybe I was meant to have it then.”
“You're seriously that sure that the universe wants you to have this?”
“Maybe it's a sign.”
You pinch the bridge of your nose. “Are you just dumb on purpose?”
She grins. “I'm not doing it on purpose, and maybe it's a sign that I should be your valentine, that the universe is trying to tell you something.”
You roll your eyes. “Wow, so confident. If I didn't know any better, I'd think you're actually serious.”
“And what if I am serious?” You look at her blankly as she shrugs. She actually thinks she's funny. “I mean, you don't have a valentine, which does kind of suck, and I don't have one, which is by choice, by the way, so I think the universe is clearly telling us something.”
What the actual hell is wrong with her today? she didn't get enough sleep or something, and now she's acting like... like this? this is weird.
She's being weird.
“What, is the universe now trying to set us up? really? we're gonna get a movie based off this?”
“Hey, no one said this was a movie, maybe it's just a cute little high school romance,” she argues back. “Plus, you put a lot of work into this letter, and I'd hate for it to go to waste.”
“I'm not in the mood to start a cute little high school romance with you, okay?”
She heaves a dramatic sigh. “Look,” she says, holding up a hand to stop you from replying, “it's valentine's day, right? and we both don't have anyone, so it's just... for today, we can, you know... see what happens, and if it doesn't work out, then we can just leave it alone and go back the way we were.”
You blink slowly. “That sounds worse than your whole ‘the universe wants us together’ bullshit.”
“Wow, don't act like the idea of it is so awful. I mean, I'm not that bad, right?”
You're going to disagree with that with every single cell in your body, but you decide not to, instead, you just remain silent.
Vi seems to take your silence as agreement because she gives you this insufferable smirk like she just won something.
She continues. “It makes sense if you think about it. We're both single, you're already in a lovesick mood because of this,” she gestures at the letter, “so if we do, you know... we can get it out of your system, and you won't have to spend the rest of the school year pining over some person who is probably ignoring you anyway.”
Why is she making some sense? no, why is she sounding like... a good option all of a sudden?
“It's just for today,” she reminds you again. “We'll just see where it goes. Who knows, you might actually have some fun with me.”
This feels like you're cheating on your crush for even entertaining this stupid plan.
“You're basically saying that we're going to spend one day together and then you'll ditch me?” you retort.
“No, that's not what I'm saying,” she corrects you. “I'm saying we're gonna spend one day together, and if it doesn't work out, then we go our separate ways. It's just one day, it can't hurt. It won't be such a big deal.”
“I'm not going to be your one day entertainment.”
“Who said you'd be my entertainment?” She rolls her eyes, shaking her head at you. “You and I both know you have no other options. What're you gonna do instead, go home and cry over this person who doesn't even know you exist, or just spend the day wallowing in self pity while the rest of the school is celebrating love and stuff with their actual valentines?”
You wince at her harsh words because... she's got a point.
You don't have anyone to spend this day with, and the person you'd want to spend it with will probably spend it with someone else... so yeah, you have no plans, and yeah, you're probably going to just go home and wallow in self pity, wishing that today was over already.
What would happen, actually? if you go along with her stupid plan. You could finally have an escape from pining over your stupid crush who probably doesn't even notice you.
“Fine.” You snatch the letter back from her.
“Wait, what? really?” She's actually surprised. No wonder, she's the one who came up with this stupid plan in the first place.
“I am,” you say, “you don't want me to?”
She huffs out a laugh. “No, no, of course not. I just… didn't expect you to actually agree.”
“And why is that?”
“I don't know, I figured you'd still have a little bit of decency left in you.”
What a backhanded compliment. “I have plenty of decency left in me, it's you who I'd question, and besides... it's just for today.” You fold the letter and shove it into your pocket.
Vi hums, not taking that offense to your comment. “Just today,” she repeats. “Then tomorrow, boom, everything goes back to normal.”
You nod. “Back to normal.”
“I could kiss you right now.”
Whoa woah woah. Calm down. “Ew, what?”
“I didn't say I will kiss you,” she points out, “I said I could.”
You could say something mean to her words, you could try to change the subject or you could just walk away and forget this conversation ever happened.
But what you actually say is, “What's stopping you then?”
You hate how that sounds so casual. It wasn't meant to come out like that. What the hell?
You're not entirely sure, but something is definitely encouraging you to keep this going. Is it because you find everything she does annoying or that you've been pent-up over your stupid crush lately and you need to get it out of your system?
Vi raises an eyebrow at your words. “You want me to kiss you?” The words drip out of her mouth, like honey on a spoon.
“No,” you reply on instinct, because of course not.
But you can't stop the way your eyes flicker down to look at her lips. You look back at her face, and you know damn well she saw you look down at her lips, but she doesn't say anything about it.
“So now that it's official... you're my valentine, and today, we're going to have the shittiest, most awesome date-” she coughs, “-i mean hangout, that you'll ever have.”
“I doubt it.”
“Hey,” she says, “don't underestimate me, okay? I know how to have a good time,” and then she, god help you, she winks at you.
She looks like she's about to say something more, but she stops when the bell rings.
“Meet me at the parking lot after class?” she asks.
You find yourself nodding. “Yeah, sure.” You look at the field for a second and then look back, just so you can catch her reaction—and it's not at all what you were expecting. She's... blushing?
It's subtle, more subtle than you'd think, but her cheeks are definitely red, and when she realizes you notice her, she looks away.
She looks embarrassed.
She's embarrassed?
“Anyway, see you there... valentine.” She doesn't look at you. “Try not to miss me too much.”
What? miss her? She sounds like she's trying to joke about it, but something about the way she says it sounds sincere? What the fuck?
She starts to walk away. You're pretty sure you see another smile on her face, and if you didn't like her so much, you'd probably like how she looks when she does.
But you remind yourself, this is Vi.
The same Vi you've known for years, the same Vi who made your grades worse because of a stupid experiment, the same Vi who you'd probably love to throw out the nearest window if you could, and the same Vi you can't stand.
You force yourself to turn away, and you start to walk back to the school building. You try to push the image of her stupid blushing face and her stupid pretty smile out of your brain because you are not... going to make the mistake of being attracted to her.
—
Time passes by more slowly than a snail.
What's the saying...? ‘A watched pot never boils?’ You're pretty sure you could watch paint dry, and it would move at a faster pace.
Why is time passing so slowly today?
You're not sure if it's because you have this... ‘hangout’ to expect at the end of the day or if it's because you keep getting distracted by the thoughts of what is going to happen later.
What you do know is that you end up spacing out way too much more than a person should.
Thankfully, you don't have any homework, but your notes for the day are just absolutely horrible, a mindless mess of scribbles and pointless words. You're definitely going to regret this later.
The last bell mercifully rings just as you're in the middle of doodling a small sketch of Vi's face in the corner of your notes.
You quickly shut your notebook and stuffed everything into your bag.
You need to find your goddamn common sense first, but it seems to have left the room before you could.
The hallway is a goddamn mess.
Kids are running everywhere in the halls, screaming loud as hell, some girl is trying to stuff her locker to the point where it's going to explode, and some kid has got a goddamn boombox and is blasting music from it. There's the hallway drama that everyone loves listening to even though they should be minding their own business.
Seriously, it feels like you're in the middle of a goddamn jungle with the amount of people screaming.
Walking to the parking lot takes longer than it usually would. When you get there, you see a familiar head of pink hair leaning against a red motor, scrolling through something on her phone.
She hasn't noticed you yet, and you find yourself unable to move your feet for a second.
She's just leaning back against the motorcycle, lazily swiping through something on her phone. She's even biting her lower lip slightly, and for some reason, you really don't know why that's such a good look on her.
Okay, what?
You need to stop letting your brain run away with these thoughts.
You are not going to act like a middle school idiot who just got caught looking at her crush or something. You're an intelligent, mature human being. You're definitely not some dumb kid with an embarrassing crush either. Definitely not.
The sunlight makes her glow, and when she looks up from her phone, you feel you're hit with a wave of goddamn sun poisoning because the sunlight hitting her eyes makes them shine.
She looks over and sees you, shoving her phone into her pocket. She gestures you over with a slight jerk of her head.
You force your feet to start cooperating and get your ass over there.
“Glad you came.”
What kind of response would even be the right one for that? “Me too” would sound too enthusiastic. “Yep” sounds so disinterested, like you'd rather be anywhere else than here, when that might be partially true, but you're not trying to sound like a dick. “Same here” sounds like such a sarcastic tone, and “Of course I'm here, you're the one who forced me into this” would sound too rude.
Instead, you just say nothing, which she notices, of course.
“What, no smart shits today?”
“I have nothing to say to you,” you mutter as you turn your attention to the red motor behind her. You notice the scuffed up leather seat and the worn tires.
You then glance around the parking lot, wondering how many times you've seen this before. The motorcyclist who's always late to class, the seniors who smoke too much and are always ditching school, the students with cars who love to show off the brand new car their parents gave them, and the popular girls gossiping about some poor girl who can't afford nice clothes.
The sound of a motorcycle engine starting snaps you out of your thoughts, and you look up to see Vi getting onto the motorcycle
She pats the back seat behind her. “You getting on or what?”
“...is it like fast?”
“Is it like fast?"” she mimics in a childish tone before rolling her eyes. “Yeah, it's fast. Get on it and find out.”
“I just asked a question, no need to be a dick.”
“Are you always this bitchy?” she asks, then throws you a helmet. “Put this on.”
You catch the helmet, and you put it on. “Only around you.” You approach the motor and try not to comment on the poor condition and instead climb on behind her.
You have no idea what to do with your legs, so for a few seconds, you just awkwardly sit behind her, trying to position yourself like riding a horse.
“Are you gonna hold on?” Vi calls out.
“Hold on to what?”
“Me, dumbass. Grab my waist.”
“Hell no.”
“It's for your own safety.”
“I'm fine,” you shift around, trying to find a comfortable position.
Vi seems to start losing her patience with you. “If you want to fall off the bike mid ride and splatter onto someone's yard like a squashed bug, be my guest.”
That gets you to hold onto her waist out of pure spite.
“Just don't squeeze my abs too tight. I still need air.”
You scoff. “Who the hell is so narcissistic that they think something as simple as that would affect me?”
She huffs, amused by your snark, and puts on her own helmet. “It's not narcissism. It's just a joke,” she retorts.
You scoff again, but your hand tightens around her waist reflexively.
She chuckles. “Knew you couldn't resist.”
You pinch her waist. “Just shut up and drive.”
She snorts. “Touchy, aren't we?”
“Yeah, I am,” you reply sarcastically, pinching her waist again.
“Hey!” she exclaims, then sighs. “Okay, fine. I'll stop, just stop it.”
She starts the motor, and the hum of the engine vibrates throughout your body. It's louder being sat on top of the thing compared to how it sounds when you're on the ground. You feel this rumble throughout your chest, and you really want to comment on the poor thing making that much noise.
“Just hold on tight.”
—
“FUCK YEAH! WOOO!” you shout, punching the air with your fist and standing up. It's hockey, but who cares? you're not a fan, not in the slightest, but you're still screaming and cheering, all in a bid to support the team.
Vi is right beside you, shouting as well, while she eats a hot dog and washes it down with soda. “I thought you hated hockey!” she shouts over the crowd's cheers.
You shrug, but it's impossible to respond. You can't hear each other over the sound of the audience's cheers.
A few of the people sitting in the same section as you give you some weird looks, like you suddenly went insane. Well, can you really blame them? it probably looks like you have the sudden urge to yell random things for no reason.
Vi is the only one who doesn't look at you like you're some lunatic, her gaze is focused on the game, all while cheering, and occasionally making comments about the players.
It's different compared to watching it on TV. You're actually there, in person, surrounded by people who share your excitement and are as loud as you or louder.
You're also next to the most annoying person ever, but you don't want to dwell on that.
You drop down, back into your seat, and lean back, stretching your legs out. Your thighs and legs are starting to feel like jelly from all that screaming and standing. “Damn,” you tell her, shaking your legs. “I think I just strained a muscle or something.”
Vi laughs and sits down on her seat. “You know, I've been around here for years now. I probably know some people here.” She glances around the crowd of people, scanning them like she's trying to find someone in particular.
“Oh yeah? who's that in the third row then?”
She follows the direction of your finger and immediately points at a random person. “That's Fred! I once went to elementary with him.”
You have no idea if she's making that up or not. “And what about the guy next to him with the big hat?”
Vi squints at the section you pointed at. “That's George.” She then points at a girl with a black jacket. “That's Sneha,” she pauses, her eyes catching someone in the distance, “and oh-” her hand abruptly changes direction, pointing forward, “-that's Jenny,” she says, waving her hand. “Yo, Jen!”
The old lady turns around and nods her greeting. “Hi sweetheart, how's it going?”
“Doing good, gramps. Just watching the game with this one.” She nudges at you.
The old lady turns to look at you, her face taking the form of a smile. “Ah, a girlfriend, I see.”
Girlfriend? What's she talking about? “Um, no. Just a friend.”
Vi's eyebrows rise as her whole mouth goes ajar. “Friend?” she repeats, “We're friends now?”
“Only for today. Don't get used to the idea.”
The old lady hums. “Is that so? well, enjoy the game, children.”
“Yeah, yeah, we will,” Vi responds to the old lady, and once the lady turns back to watch the game, she leans in close, bumping her shoulder into yours. “That's Jen. She's basically the team's grandma,” Vi explains. “She's been here for years, goes to almost every game.”
You watch the lady continue to watch the game. “So she's like a regular here.”
“Yeah, sometimes she talks about how things were better in ‘her day.’”
“You two seem close though,” you point out.
“She's old and friendly,” she says, scratching her cheek. “Plus, old ladies are always fond of me. I helped her one time with her groceries after one game, and now she thinks I'm a sweetheart.” Vi shrugs, taking another bite of her hotdog. “She's also a nice lady. Always has candy and stuff to give out to everyone.”
“Candy, huh?”
“Yep,” she swallows and smacks her lips to get any food out from her mouth. “She always has peppermint discs, peppermint sticks, and chocolate sticks in her bag.”
“Why do you know that?”
“Everyone knows that.”
“Why does she have candy anyway?”
Vi takes another bite. “Just something she likes to give out,” she says, between chews, then points at the old lady's lap. “That blue thing she's knitting is actually a hat. She likes to give that out too.”
“Really?”
Vi shrugs again, eating yet another mouthful of her food, still somehow managing to speak at the same time. “Yeah, and don't be fooled by the knitting and the candy. She could beat you in a game of arm wrestling. She's still really buff.”
You nod silently, impressed with this old lady.
When Vi swallows the last bit of her hotdog, she pulls out her phone and points it at you. “I'm gonna take a picture of you... and put it on Tinder.” The second the camera's click sounds off, it takes everything in you to not grab her phone and throw it across the goddamn stadium.
She continues taking pictures, each time saying something different, like, “Look at this one,” or “This one's really good.” She holds up the phone, showing you a picture that's... actually not half bad. But you know giving her that reaction would just fuel her to do more, so instead, you scoff.
You turn your attention back to the stadium, trying to ignore whatever she's doing beside you. You look around. There are a surprising amount of men, guys, dudes, bros, etc. It's like they outnumber the women.
“There's a lot of dudes in here,” you comment. “Is it a testosterone fest over here, or what?”
Vi looks around as well. “Yep.”
“Do you think any of these guys like girls who love sports?”
Vi snorts. “Nah,” she replies, shoving her phone back into her pocket. “They're more interested in a girl who looks good in a jersey and knows how to bring them a cold beer.”
“So… basically they're only interested if we look cute and we don't open our mouths?”
“Pretty much.”
You groan. “I hate guys like that.”
“Hey, some guys aren't that bad,” she remarks.
“Yeah, and they're the ones in relationships.”
She thinks about it for a moment. “You know… I'm surprised you're not in a relationship.”
You give her a weird look. “Why?”
“Well, you're... y'know… cute.”
Is that a compliment or a fact? you are cute, you're aware of that, but still, it's weird how she said it and... did it look like there was a hint of something else in her tone of voice when she said that?
You force a smile, trying to brush it off. “Thanks.”
You both sit in silence for a moment, a silence you really want to fill with literally anything else than this weird awkwardness.
Just when the awkward silence couldn't possibly get more awkward, a sudden cheer from the crowd interrupts your thoughts. They're all looking up at something on top of the stadium. You furrow your brows before looking up, trying to see what it is they're looking at.
Your eyes land on the huge TV that's attached to the ceiling, and you see the words ‘KISSING CAM’ flashing in bright letters. The camera pans through the crowd, searching for a couple, and it lands on a couple who's sitting not too far from you.
“KISS! KISS! KISS!” You look over at Vi and see her cupping her hands over her mouth. She's standing up and shouting at the couple to kiss.
You watch as the girl looks up and sees the camera pointed towards her and her boyfriend. She whispers something to him, and it doesn't take a genius to know what she just said. The guy grins and leans in, giving his girlfriend a sloppy, wet kiss.
The crowd goes crazy, cheering and whistling. The couple pulls away from each other, both of them smiling.
You look at Vi again, who's still standing up. She seems to be enjoying this a lot more than you are, and you can see hearts in her eyes.
Once it seems like the camera has recorded enough footage, it moves to the next couple.
It goes to a couple sitting not too far away from you. The guy looks uncomfortable, but his girlfriend is completely eager to show some public affection. She grabs his chin and kisses him, but it’s only a quick, chaste kiss.
Vi yells out, “Come on, put some effort into it!” and then she sits down, leaning back in the chair.
The camera pans through the crowd again, skipping over several couples until finally landing on a group of guys. They look like they're having the time of their life, yelling at the camera and making rude gestures.
“Ah, boys…” an older man next to you sighs.
The camera captures the guys for a while, they're all laughing and having a good time.
The camera moves away from the group of guys and lands on Vi and a girl sitting right next to her.
Vi immediately makes some hand gestures, shaking her head and probably saying no. “We're not-” but before she can finish, the camera moves away from them, unsatisfied with this answer, and lands on the other girl sitting next to Vi.
You.
Fuck.
“KISS! KISS! KISS!” you hear someone, it sounds like the same person who cheered on the other couples.
You look over at Vi, who's watching you with this stupid smile on her face. You glare at her, she's clearly enjoying this way too much.
You lean over to her, through clenched teeth, you hiss, “This isn't funny.”
She shrugs, still smiling. “I think it is.”
“Well, I don't.”
“It's only a kiss.”
“It’s still embarrassing.”
“Oh come on, it's Valentine's Day!” she replies. “What? are you worried that you'll suck at kissing or something?”
“Excuse me? I am an excellent kisser.”
“Oh yeah?” She quirks an eyebrow. “Then why are you so worried about this? it won't be some gross open mouth kiss, it'll be just a little peck.”
You narrow your eyes at her. “Because I don't want to be seen kissing in public, in front of hundreds of people,” you say, lowering your voice, “And I definitely do not want to kiss you.”
“Come on, you don't have to sound so disgusted by the idea of kissing me.”
“Because I am,” you say simply. “I don't want to kiss you anymore than you'd want to kiss me.”
“I never said I didn't want to kiss you.”
That statement takes you by surprise, you had just assumed that she would be grossed out by the thought of kissing you.
The chants start to get louder as more and more people join in. “KISS! KISS! KISS!”
You hear the same guy from before. “Kiss! c'mon! it's just a quick kiss, do it.”
You hear another girl from behind you. “Oh, come on! one little kiss! what's the big deal?”
It's no big deal.
But at the same time, you're starting to panic. You don't even know how to act right now, are you supposed to play along with this? are you supposed to ignore it? what the hell is happening?!
Your brain is starting to mush into mush because why are so many people chanting? why are they making such a big deal out of this? it's just a kiss, right? right… so why are you so nervous?
You turn your head to see Vi looking at you, her eyes staring into your soul.
“A kiss on the cheek will do,” she says aloud.
You're going to die.
Your heart is going to explode right here, in the middle of the stadium, and then your guts are going to spill out right in front of everybody.
Maybe it's best just to get this over with?
All you have to do is... just a kiss on the cheek. That's it.
You just have to get it over with before this turns into something bigger.
You're not really gonna enjoy this, you'd just get the feeling like you should have brushed your teeth harder in the morning.
Vi's not even attractive in the way that you would want to kiss her cheek, her skin probably sucks from waking up in the mornings, there's no way she remembers to wash her hair at least three times a week. What about her breath? There is no way that she actually brushes her teeth every day. Her breath probably tastes like stale cheetos and mountain dew. There is no way you're gonna get a single bit of pleasure from kissing her cheek.
But you do it anyway.
You press a kiss on her cheek, and it's... warm, and they burn under your lips. The smell of her body spray isn't overwhelming. It's subtle and pleasant. Her hair isn't as greasy as you imagined, and it feels kinda nice when your fingers brush against the side of her face. Her breath doesn't even smell like mountain dew and cheetos, it's actually minty and fresh, like she just ate a pack of gum.
You pull your face away before you let your brain get to you, but you just keep looking at her face because there is this huge grin plastered on her face that makes your heart beat faster. Her cheeks look red, and the tips of her ears are even red too.
The crowd goes nuts. You can barely hear the music or the announcers over the chanting. The kiss had lasted all but a few seconds, but the feeling on your lips linger.
You're both looking at each other like you've just seen each other for the very first time.
She's actually gorgeous.
How is it possible that you only now realized how beautiful she looks?
You look away, but even in your peripheral vision, you can see her looking at you. There's still a stupid grin on her face, and she looks happy.
She's actually happy that you kissed her on the cheek.
—
You and Vi are sitting in the parking lot after the game ends. Vi had bought some $5 pizza, but since the place is packed, you're now sitting in the parking lot with Vi's motorcycle parked behind you.
“I'm gonna be honest,” Vi starts, her face twisted up as she chews on a slice of pizza. “This is the best meal I’ve ever had.”
You hum, nodding along.
Vi takes another bite, a big one, and chews on it, her cheeks stuffed. She swallows and sighs contently. “Man, I should have bought two boxes,” she grumbles, looking down at the one last slice left in the box. Then, she looks up, straight at you, and grins. “You want the last slice?” she offers, holding up the box with the slice still left in it.
You shake your head, and she looks at you with skepticism. “Are you sure you don't want it?”
“I had three slices already, I'm fine.”
Vi looks at the slice of pizza that's still in the box, then at you. She looks like she's considering something, then shrugs and pops the slice into her mouth. “Suit yourself,” she says, the words garbled since her mouth is still full of food.
Something about this moment feels... comfortable. Strangely comfortable.
It's weird. You don't understand why you don't feel threatened or uncomfortable or annoyed or any of those things, even though she's sitting right next to you.
But, oddly enough, you feel safe.
Or maybe that's just because you can't think of anything to say.
Or maybe it's because the silence isn't awkward.
Or maybe it's because you're distracted by the way she seems to enjoy her food.
Because... it's so... weirdly satisfying, watching her chew her food, watching her swallow, watching her use the back of her hand to wipe off the sauce on her chin.
You have no idea why you're paying attention to those little details.
But... you are.
You're not sure when you started paying attention to those.
You're not sure why you feel so comfortable around her right now.
You're not sure of a lot of things, actually.
You're not sure how to feel at the moment, or when your dislike of her had dwindled down to... whatever the hell this is, to whatever this weird, unfamiliar feeling in your chest is.
You're not sure why the corners of your lips keep trying to twitch upwards every time she makes some stupid face.
You're not sure why you're fine sitting in the freezing cold of the parking lot. Not even on the motorcycle, but on the cold ass ground, just sitting behind the motor, back leaned against it.
You're just fine sitting here, and you're just fine knowing that after this, you'll have to go back home and deal with a bunch of bullshit again.
You don't get it.
What changed?
She used to get on your nerves, and you used to get on hers.
She's still the same, isn't she?
And you're still the same.
Everything, suddenly, feels... different.
The air feels different, the atmosphere feels different, the whole world feels different.
The only thing that hasn't changed is her.
Well, no, that’s a lie.
She has changed.
She feels different.
She's not the same girl you can't stand.
And you're not the same girl she can't stand.
Everything is just different.
Maybe the two of you had changed.
But you're not sure how.
You're not even sure when you started noticing it.
But those little details about her, those little behaviors and quirks and habits that you used to find irritating and annoying… they're not bothering you anymore.
She's still a pain in the ass, but she's... well, a tolerable one.
For now.
You don't understand.
Or, rather, you won't allow yourself, at least not yet.
Because you're not sure how to process everything.
And, honestly, you're afraid to even try.
You look at her, still eating on the slice of pizza, and there's a small smear of sauce on the corner of her mouth. “You've got something on your face.”
She tilts her head. “I do? Where?”
Your eyes slowly move down, from her eyes to her nose, and then... her lips. Then, you notice something... freckles. She has freckles. little ones, spread across the bridge of her nose and cheeks, and they're… really cute, really, really-
What in ever loving hell are you thinking?
“Hello? you alive over there?”
You snap out of it. You're not about to let her see you be weak just because she happens to have a pretty face. “You had something right… here,” before she can respond, you raise your hand, reaching for her cheek. You wipe the sauce off the corner of her mouth with your thumb. Your thumb accidentally brushes against her lower lip, and something in your chest twitches.
Vi freezes, her eyes widening as you touch her lips.
Everything feels... slower.
You can hear the sound of her breathing as she exhales, how it hitches when you brush your thumb along her lower lip.
You don't know how, or when, but you find yourself leaning closer to her, your hand still cupped on her cheek.
Her gaze flicks to your lips, her own parting slightly.
...
Holy shit.
You snatch your hand away, realizing what you just did.
Damn it, what the fuck?
You quickly stand up, trying to regain your composure. “I-” Your voice comes out as a croak. You clear your throat, trying to sound normal. “I should... get home. I think it's getting late.”
Vi is still sitting on the ground, and then she shakes her head, as if waking herself up. ...right. Yeah, it is getting late.” She slowly stands up.
“I... umm…” you start awkwardly. “I should-”
“I'll... drive you home,” she interrupts whatever you were about to say.
Your head snaps up, surprised by the offer. “What? You don't have to-”
“I want to.” Her tone leaves no room for argument, so you shut your mouth. You don't want to prolong this weird, confusing moment anyway.
—
Vi's motorcycle comes to a stop in front of your house. The engine making that clunky, sputtering sound before it finally dies.
“We're here,” you say, trying to break the awkward silence that has been between the two of you since you got on the motorcycle.
You manage to finally slide off the motorcycle, but unfortunately, you're still attached to the helmet. You attempt to unbuckle the chin strap, but the damn thing seems to be glued to your head.
“Ugh, this piece of crap,” you mutter, struggling with it.
“Here, let me-” she cuts in, reaching for the straps.
“No, I got it,” you insist.
“I know you can, but let me.”
You glare at her, feeling stubborn, but it's not like you're getting anywhere. “Fine.” You let your hands fall to your sides as she reaches for the straps.
She unbuckles it with ease, finally freeing your head from its confines.
You take the helmet off and give it to her, trying to not make eye contact. “Thanks.”
There's a moment of what could be an awkward silence before you both speak at the same time.
“So-”
“I-”
You cough awkwardly. “Go ahead.”
“No, you can speak first-”
“No, no, I insist. Go ahead-”
“I'm fine-”
“Stop being stubborn-”
“Says you-”
“Yeah, I am stubborn-"
“Shut up-”
“Make me-”
What did she say? Was that... an invitation?
“Are you challenging me-”
She snorts. “Pfft, no, that-”
“Then why would you say something like that?”
“I don't know, thought it'd be funny.”
“It wasn't.”
“It was a little funny.”
“No, it wasn't,” you scoff. “Whatever. You were saying?”
“Oh, yeah,” she replies, shifting on the motorcycle. “I just wanted to say…” Her gaze shifts from you to the side, then back to you. “I just wanted to... say that I had... fun today. Yeah…” She shrugs. “What about you? what were you sayin'?”
Huh. “I guess it wasn't the worst thing that ever happened to me.”
“Wow,” she says, deadpan. “So glad you're not completely miserable being around me.”
“Don't get your hopes up too high, it's just for today, remember?” you remind her.
“Yeah, I remember, I'm not an idiot.”
“Could have fooled me,” you retort, and a smirk makes its way to your face.
“Watch it,” she warns, the corners of her mouth curving upwards. “I'm only tolerating you today.”
“The feeling is mutual,” you quip back.
The two of you share a look and then start laughing. You're glad she's starting to loosen up a little.
“Alright alright, truce?” She holds out her fist.
You roll your eyes but bump your fist with hers anyway. “Truce.”
There's another silence, but it doesn't feel... awkward like the last ones.
Then, she speaks up, “Well... I guess I should go.”
“Yeah,” you reply. “I guess you should.”
“See you at school, then?”
“Unfortunately,” you grumble. You take a step back, getting ready to turn around and head to the front door.
“Hey,” she suddenly says.
You glance back at her, raising an eyebrow in question.
“Can I…” she starts, then hesitates, “...can I ask you something?”
You shrug. “Yeah, go ahead.”
“Just... promise me you won't be mad,” she hedges, not quite looking at you directly.
“I'm not promising anything-”
“Just... humor me.”
“Fine. I promise I won't get mad.”
She takes a deep breath. “Do... do you… do you actually hate me?” You're silent for a moment, trying to find the words, but she starts backpedaling. “Ugh, never mind, I shouldn't have asked, forget it, it doesn't matter-”
“No, no-" you interject, “I don't- I don't hate you.”
“You don't?”
“No... I don't hate you.”
“You sure?” she presses, leaning forward on the motorcycle, resting her arms on the handlebars. “Then why are you always so pissy whenever you're around me?”
“I dont-” you start, then stop. “I'm not-” you start again and stop again. “Remember that time in science lab?”
“When we lit the bunsen burner, the table caught on fire, we got three detentions, and everyone thought we were going to be expelled?” she recalls.
“Yes… that time.”
“Seriously? that was months ago.”
“I never said I was the most forgiving person.”
“It was a mistake,” she points out. “I didn't mean to do it, I was just being stupid.”
“It was still your fault. You didn't look at the instructions.”
“I was distracted,” she counters.
“By what, your big brain? cause you definitely weren't paying attention to the experiment instructions.”
She looks away, shifting uncomfortably on her motorcycle. “Actually, I was distracted by something…” her eyes return to yours, “-someone.”
“You're making it sound like it was a person you were crushing on or something.”
She falls silent, looking away again.
Wait.
Hold on.
What?
“Wait—wait a minute,” you demand, walking closer to her.
“What?”
“You were being distracted because you were crushing on someone during the science lab? That was the reason that whole thing happened? You couldn't keep yourself from being distracted because you were crushing on someone?”
“That's not fair to say,” she protests.
“Not fair to say?” you repeat, scoffing. “I literally got three detentions because you were more interested in staring at someone-”
“Fine! Whatever. Maybe I was distracted, maybe I wasn't paying attention-” she admits defensively “-maybe I was looking at-” she cuts herself off again. “Whatever, I'm going home.” She starts her motorcycle, not glancing at you.
“Hey-” you reach out, grabbing her arm. “Wait.”
“What do you want?”
“What was that person's name?”
“What does it matter?”
“Cause, I have a hunch.”
“Care to share this hunch with me?”
“Uh, Caitlyn Kiramman…?”
She snaps her head to you, eyes tracing up and down. “Are you actually this clueless?” she sneers, then drives away, leaving you alone on the sidewalk.
“Hey!” you shout. “Seriously, what is your problem?” you call out after her. “We were having a decent conversation, why did you-”
Suddenly, she stops, braking abruptly in the middle of the sidewalk with a quick skid. Before you can say, or think, she has her motorcycle facing you once again. She swings her leg over and hops off, walking up to you with a determined look.
“You want to know my problem?” she asks, coming closer. “I'll tell you my problem.” She grabs your shoulders, forcing you to step back. “My problem is that it's been years. Years, and you still have no idea, do you? you're still just as clueless as always.”
“What are you-” you stumble, struggling to keep your footing. Her hands are tight around your shoulders, holding you in place.
“You keep saying I'm the one who causes trouble, I'm the one who always makes your life harder-” she continues. “But you-”
You manage to find your footing and look at her face.
“-don't seem to get that you're just as guilty of making my life miserable.”
“Vi-” you start, but she doesn't let you finish.
“Every time you smile at me, every time you look at me, every time you talk to me.” She shakes you. “Every time you do something stupid, which is all the goddamn time,” she spits. “You don't seem to get that it drives me insane.” She huffs, letting go of you. “I've been right in front of you this whole damn time, and you just didn't even-”
“Didn't what?”
“You had no idea, did you? You don't understand why I’m so damn irritable whenever I'm with you, you don't get why I'm always trying to pick fights, why I can't just be civil, why I can't just be normal around you… you just think I'm a jerk!”
“Well, maybe you are. You did just grab me like a fucking maniac.”
“Oh, shut up,” Vi snaps. “Just shut up for a second.”
You shut up.
She takes a deep breath. “You think I enjoy this?” she asks, and the question sounds genuine enough that you regret the ‘maybe you are’ comment.
She scoffs. “I don't. I wish more than anything that I could just be calm and civil and… and nice around you. But instead, I'm always getting into your face, I'm always picking at you, I'm always trying to piss you off, because it's the only goddamn way I can get your attention.”
“Any time I try to be normal around you,” she continues, “I get... I get ignored. You act like I'm not even there. But the second I get in your face, the second I do something stupid or obnoxious-” she gestures at herself, “-suddenly, you're right there. You're looking right at me, you're talking to me, for once, you're actually paying attention to me-”
“Why do you even care about my attention?!” You don't mean for it to come out as angry as it does, but the pure confusion you feel causes you to raise your voice.
Vi looks away, a frown twisting her lips, before she snaps her gaze back to you. She sounds oddly embarrassed when she speaks. “Maybe because I'm completely, miserably, head over heels in love with you, okay?!”
Wait... what the actual fuck?
Vi looks away, the words leaving her in a rush. “I'm in love with you,” she repeats, quieter and slower. “There's no maybe about it. I've literally been in love with you since middle school.”
“So, instead... instead of just telling me,” you start, “you... you decided to be a jerk to me for the past six years?!”
“I was twelve!” Now her attention is fully on you as she gestures at herself. “I was a dumb kid, I didn't know what to do, but I was desperate for you to notice me. Every time I tried being nice, I got ignored, so... I guess I decided that if you weren't going to notice me in a good way, then I was just gonna piss you off and make you notice me in a bad way.”
“And then, I just kept doing it,” she continues, “because then, you would notice me, and you'd talk to me, and at least you weren't ignoring me. It became a habit. It was the same damn cycle every day. So, you know, I'm sorry if I don't suddenly know how to behave like a normal goddamn human being around you.”
She looks at you defiantly, she's expecting a fight, an argument, and the last thing she expects is for you to... laugh
You laugh. You don't laugh because you think it's funny, you laugh because you're so unbelievably shocked and overwhelmed that the only thing you can do is laugh. You try to cover it up, you try to muffle your laugh by bringing your hand to your mouth, but it's too late, you've already laughed.
“Why are you laughing?” she asks. “I'm being serious, okay? this isn't a joke, it's not some sort of prank. I am dead serious—I just confessed to you, and you start laughing? Jesus, you're actually heartless, you-”
You manage to get your laughter under control, your body still shaking with a few silent chuckles, but you manage to speak in between your breaths. “You have the worst-” and another chuckle, “-worst timing, I swear to god.”
“Oh I'm so sorry that my confession didn't please all of your fucking needs,” Vi says sarcastically, “but I've spent god knows how long in love with you, and I just had to take my shot. And what are you doing? You're laughing at me. Because your pride can't stand-”
“Would you shut up for like two seconds?!” you snap, cutting off her rant in an instant. “I'm not laughing because you confessed to me, okay?!”
“Then why are you laughing, huh? why is this so funny to you? because I don't find it very funny-”
“Because-” you sigh, and you're actually surprised by how... nervous you suddenly feel. “I never expected this, okay? I never expected you to actually... feel that type of way about me, and to top that, you're confessing to me in the stupidest way possible.”
“I didn't plan on confessing to you at all!” she protests. “It just... kind of happened. Plus, you've never been too keen on me.”
“I-” you begin because 'not keen on you' feels like an understatement. You've never liked her, or rather you've never let yourself even consider her as an option because your heart was set on one person only. “I just need some time to... process this.”
Vi scoffs, her face looking annoyed again. “You need time to process this? what's there to process? I just told you how I feel about you.”
“Yeah, well, I need to process that! Because you just dumped a lot of information on me, and right now I'm-” You pause, trying to pick just the right word. “...overwhelmed, okay?”
Vi's features soften, not quite fully, but just enough to show a little bit of sympathy. “Overwhelmed,” she repeats.
“Yeah…” you reply, “I mean... you just confessed to me, and I... I've never-” you gulp. “-I've never really thought of you... that way.”
“Never thought of me, or never let yourself think of me?”
Okay, woah, that's... a very accurate question.
She's right, and it's scary that she just pointed that out.
Maybe in the back of your head, you've wondered things, you've had thoughts, but it was all so brief, you've always been quick to brush them away. It never even crossed your mind that maybe you had been missing out on something.
You're not sure how to reply, and it gives Vi a chance to continue talking.
“You never let yourself think of me like that, huh?” she continues, “That's pretty sad, because I've literally been in love with you for the past six years.”
“Don't guilt trip me,” you snap. “It's not like I asked you to fall in love with me, is it?”
“I'm not guilt tripping you. I'm just trying to get you to understand how I feel. I'm just trying to make you see that I...care about you, okay? I'm not trying to—ugh!” She groans, rubbing a hand over her face. “I'm screwing this up, I'm screwing everything up, because apparently I suck at confessing and you… you mess with my head.”
“I mess with your head?” you repeat. “You're the one who's messing with my head! You're the one who's messing with my emotions, you—you just turned my entire life upside down, and you expect me to respond to it perfectly?!”
“Not perfectly!” she retorts. “You're seriously not getting it, are you? All I want is for you to-”
“What do you want then? you want me to say that I feel the same way about you? that I've secretly been in love with you for years and never said anything?”
“No, that's not what I— that's not what I want you to say at all!” She runs her fingers through her hair and pushes it out of her face because the haircut she has gets everywhere. “All I want you to say is that you'll even consider me as an option! I just want you to give me a chance. Is that so much for me to ask for?”
You groan to yourself. “Look, if you like me that much, then maybe you should at least make an effort… and then maybe... I'll give you a chance!” With that, you walk towards the front door.
Vi doesn't respond, not immediately, she just stands there watching you leave, a stunned look on her face. But she manages to shake herself out of that stupor in time to follow you.
“Are you serious...?"
“You want me? You gotta work for it,” you respond without slowing your footsteps.
“Woah woah woah, what? work for it?” she sputters, trying to keep up with you. “What more do you want from me?”
“I want-” You stop in front of the door, suddenly turning around to her. “-I want you to prove how serious you are. Just confessing to me isn't going to change everything, and if you're being serious,” you jab a finger to her chest, “then prove it.”
“And how exactly am I supposed to prove myself, huh? Please, tell me, because I'm really at a loss here.”
“I don't know, figure it out.” You shrug. “You claim to be in love with me, right? and if that really were the case, then you have six whole years worth of feelings inside that-” you point at her “-that heart of yours, and you better damn use it.”
“Fine,” she says, and her tone is determined. “You want me to prove it? I'll prove it. I'll prove it so much, you're going to be drowning in how much I prove it. I'm going to do everything just to win your heart. Just watch.”
That sounds cheesy, but... you'd be lying if you said you weren't intrigued. You scoff, turning around and opening the door, but not before saying, “We'll see about that.”
—
Vi stares at the closed door, her thoughts completely occupied with your words.
Prove it.
She shakes her head, a grin on her face as she walks back to her motor.
You and her have had a rocky past, but she's determined to wipe the slate clean.
Vi swings her leg over her motor. She grips the handles tightly and starts the ignition.
She's going to start from the ground zero with you.
And by god, she will prove herself.

𐔌 . ⋮ Levi Ackerman x fem reader .ᐟ ֹ ₊ ꒱
。𖦹°‧ : fluff to angst to fluff and smut | nsfw | 18+ content mdni | fingering | pussy eating | squirtin | cum eating | cursed words | friends to lovers | mordern/college au | ֹ ⑅᜔ ׄ ݊ ݂
A/N ୧ ‧₊˚ : credits goes to the owner of the arts i used here!! English isn't my first language sorry if i did any mistakes:)

You were just another classmate of levi. That's how levi sees you. You think. But in your eyes levi was so much to you since you knew him from when you first stepped in the collage. He wasn't the type of to be with everyone and blah blah. But your little heart after seeing Levi every time made you cling to him everywhere he got. Physical touch was your love language. You loved holding his hands. When you told your friends about him..they asked you "does he feels the when he holds your hand?" Fuck no. Maybe. You want him to feel butterflies like you do whenever you're with him
⋆。‧˚ʚ🍒ɞ˚‧。⋆
As always today you were sticked to levi, holding his hand wherever he goes...today Levi wasn't in the mood of handling you. Levi never knew how you felt about him so it was obviously wired to him how you'd act like hes something to you. How you'd stare at him with your round eyes. Hugging him whenever he did something for you. he was so sick of it... because you were his friend. Not his lover. So catching feelings for you would ruin him..if you don't feel the same. He was so confused with what you were doing to him. He sat on his usual desk in class. Staring at you being all bubby and sweet to your other friends. He sighed and looked away. The classes started to begin. You sat beside levi as always, throwing small balls of papers at him to annoy him. Loving the twitch of his eyebrows. Giggling and then getting scold by the teacher because of it. The lunch time came soon so you left with levi again. Dragging him with you. Everyone was already with their date partners because the prom was nearing, you had never attended proms in collage before so you decided this year you'll attend it. With levi. But you didn't had the courage to ask him to be your date or anything like that, you'll just go to the prom with him as friends..even your bsf mikasa got a date, eren. You didn't minded it because levi never liked proms but he agreed to go this year since you asked him. It was enough.

*at the prom*
You'd never go to the prom again..you had noticed that somehow levi was pushing himself away from you so tonight when you were as always sticked to him,he snapped at you. Not for once. Snapped at you three times during the whole prom.
"Can't you just stop your mouth for a second!?" You ignored it and continued clinging on his arm.
"stop being so childish you can get your drink alone" he again snapped, this time it kinda made you sad. you didn't say anything and stayed there without getting your drink. Since the guys around there had been a little scary..you thought you'd ask levi to get you a refill.
"you know if you have so many problems here you can just left already" he snapped the last time when you just tugged at his arm so he could tell you where the bathroom is. You wanted to fix your makeup but you wre so done with him being a jerk to you today..or maybe for the first time.
_
You had already left the prom, now you were at your college dorm. Laying on your bed. You had cried about why he was acting like this today..no for few days. Your phone had few texts from levi, but you didn't noticed it. Too tired to look at your phone. You took a deep breath trying to sleep but...
1:40am -
You couldn't sleep.
2:15am -
You got up from your bed and to walked here and there in your dorm completely board, you finally stopped when you noticed you backpack on the desk, you sighed looked inside of it to find something. You remembered buying few packets of buns yesterday since often times you get hungry at midnight. You didn't eat dinner tonight. When you pulled out a packet of bun from it a diary in your bag catches your eyes. You pull out the diary too. Walking off to your bed you layed down on it. Unwrapping the cun you took a bite from it as you opened your diary. It was the diary you used to write so many things when you first time felt something different towards him. The first two-three pages were written about How you had met Levi. The second page had a picture of levi sleeping with a bread you had drew on his face with a marker. You smiled at that before slipping to other pages. There were more silly pictures of levi or levi and you together. And so many thoughts you never told anyone about.
3:43am -
You finally fell asleep, the diary left open by your side.
୨ৎ
The next day when you wake up you check your phone finally..also noticing the texts he had sent you
♡ Levi >ᴗ< :
9:34pm - yn stop being childish.
10:30pm - you won't stop being a brat i guess
(he got drunk)
1:16am - i em sowwy
1:22am - yyur a jark
1:18am - stop bweimg a bret
(he texted again when he was normal)
2:20am - y/n i am sorry,i really am. talk to me tomorrow when you will wake up.
2:23am - mikasa told me you left crying because i was being a jerk.
You didn't know what to reply to his texts and left for collage. You tried your best to ignore him the whole classes and day. At Lunch time you were miles away from him. Even though you missed clinging to his arm but you were too nervous to talk to him after yesterday night. You were still hurt so you just decided to give yourself some time. 2days passed like this and you missed him even more but you also didn't talked to him. Tonight you were curled up on your bed as always. But tonight was different, you heard a knock on your dorms door. I didn't took for you to realize who was knocking by hearing it. Levi. You knew you can't avoid him for so long..
_____
Levi was sitting beside you, your head was down looking at your lap fidgeting with your fingers "why are you here?" You mumbled. He sighed before speaking "your still mad aren't you" you tense up slightly, before nervously smiling. It was looking like a panicked expression. "N-no its not like th-that i know i should respect giving you s-space since i am always st-sticking up to you and-" levi groaned in frustration looking away from you. even if you weren't mad you were hurt and he knew it. "I am sorry." Your gulped, you didn't expected him to say that right now "for snapping at you" its o-okay...you can always tell me if you want any space..you don't have to snap like that" you pouted slightly but this time you moved closer to him. Resting your head on his shoulder "i missed you.." you mumble before nuzzling against him like a puppy again. Levi didn't said anything more,he pulled you closer to him, hugging you. His lips gazing at your forehead. Your arms wrapped around him.

Few months has passed away since then. It was now winter. February 14 is tomorrow. You had decided that you'll spill out all of your feelings to levi. even if he rejects you the heavy weight in your chest will go away. You told him to visit your dorm tonight. You took a dayy off from college to bake cakes and chocolates for levi, you weren't gonna propose him that boringly. You got yourself a new sweater to doll up for levi. As the time paased 12am came near. Before 12am you bought levi to your dorm,he had no idea about what you were doing. A clothe was covering his eyes as you pushed him in your room and waited for the right moment. 12am actually.
˖ ݁𖥔 ݁˖ 𐙚 ˖ ݁𖥔 ݁˖
You didn't knew how this came so far. When you heard him say yes you're world had shook, you attacked him with kisses. Almost making him faint. cut the cake and spended your time with him for hours, watched a movie on the laptop and then...you didn't understand how but...you were grinding your clothed pussy against his thigh. Kissing the soul out of eachother. And then your clothes were gone. His fingers shoved into your hole, you cute pussy fully bare Infront of his eyes. It felt like a dream but it wasn't,your tits bare for him. Only him. He sucked on one of your cute nipple as his fingers fucked you, curling them up finding your g-spot. Gummy walls flutter around his fingers cutely as he shoved the third finger. You moaned loudly gripping his torso. Your tongue lulling out of your mouth. Pink lips covered in his and your spit. You were so close so close and- he took his fingers out of you, licking your juices of his fingers as you stared him with a pout for teasing you,but it didn't took long for him to shove his face in your soft pussy. Groaned in pleasure as his tongue licks the hell out of your cute hole and clit. Your eyes rolling up in pleasure and his eyes were rolling up at the taste of you...and suddenly something snapped in you,you moaned loudly. Your legs shaking in pleasure as your hand grips levis hair. He doesn't even lets a drop off your juice go wasted.
"your turn" he murmured as he unbuckled his belt, getting his hard dick just in front of your pinky lips. Pre cum dripping from his red tip,he gently pushes his tip against your lips as you stare up at him with those doe eyes. His breath hitches seeing you like this. You don't have any idea how he had dreamed about this and woke up with a hard cock. "Go ahed" he mumbles and you shyly nod, taking his tip in your mouth, giving it a soft suck.he almost cums at that, eyes wide in pleasure as he pushes into your mouth more. You let out a breath before taking his whole cock in your mouth. He lets out a loud moan his tongue almost out of his mouth. You softly bob your head up and down. Sucking his delicious cock. Your hands slipped underneath his sweater as your hand caresses his hard abs. He breath shaking like a balloon in front of a fan. Pulling away you took s breath then start to lick his cock again. Levi gently grabbed the bun of your hair and pushed his cock into your mouth again. It only took few minutes for him to cum in your mouth,he pulled out his softening dick out of your mouth. Without any complain you swallowed up the salty and bittersweet cum. Licking up the cum in the corner of your lips...that expression of yours didn't take too long for his cock to get hard again. He leans down and kisses your forehead before laying your bare body down on the bed. Folding you up for mating press. Your legs pressed to your chest as his tip rubs against your entrance. "Don't tease..le-" is all you managed before he slipped his cock in your hole, the soft groan of his voice and your "nghh hahh" filled up the room. another thrust and you were down bad for his cock. He lets you get adjusted to his cock for few minutes. The gives some slower thrusts.. making you look dumb on his cock. The pace of his thrusts became faster and then it turned into pounding into your little hole. You were moaning mess as as he continued to pound in you,you love it. And he loved how tight and sweet your pussy was. How beautifully it clenched on his cock as he fucked you dumb, your cute breasts bouncing up and down as he leans down to suck your nipple. Dick pounding into you. "Hngh hahhh more" you slur out amd his pace becomes even faster, making you go see stars. and with the last thrust,"i am gonna hngh-" you ended up cumming on his cock and his cock ended up Cumming inside your pretty pussy with a loud "ahh...hunghh" moan of levi.

masterlist
There is a boy in the corner of this room, and he is– he is looking at you. Yes, you’re sure of it now, even though he glanced away as soon as your eyes met. He wasn’t expecting you to notice, which is silly, because you’ve noticed almost everything about Newt since the moment he first showed up in one of your classes.
The only thing you haven’t noticed about him is all the times you haven’t caught him staring, and how he smiles when he knows you won’t be able to question him for it. Similarly, when Newt hastily turns his head and pretends that he’s been studying the board at the front of the classroom this whole time, he misses how long your eyes linger on him instead. Almost as long as his, maybe. Shame that neither of you will do a thing about it.
You don’t think you’re staring for the same reasons, though. You only look at Newt because he’s already looking at you. Newt must have a different motive for getting distracted by you so often, but he’s not likely to breathe a word of it to you. Until that impossible day, though, when Newt finally manages to get over himself and finally confesses something, you’ll keep looking back at him, wondering what all of this is about, and never, ever knowing.
You can’t hold too much of a grudge against him for looking away, nor for rushing out of the classroom without a word more than hello or goodbye or the occasional sorry when he brushes against you in the hallway. That’s not personal, that’s just how Newt is with everybody.
Newt’s quiet, you know. Doesn’t talk to a whole lot of people if he can help it. Most of the time, he’s perfectly content to sit by himself or walk alone to class, not needing anyone around him. He brushes off eye contact like dust from a faded photograph, not straying to orbit around the popular circles like everyone else in this school. The only exceptions are the small and select group of friends he likes to keep around, and then– well, then there’s you, but that feels different, somehow.
You know of Newt’s friends, they’re all good people. The kind of good people that you’d expect someone like Newt to hang out with. There’s Alby, tall and strong and ever-present in student leadership organizations. He keeps trying to get Newt to run with him in various elections. Usually Newt’s too good of a sport to say no, but the blond boy would much rather fade into the background under more secretarial roles as opposed to vocal vice presidencies. You’d know, you’ve seen him.
Minho’s a ton of fun, too. No one can crush the student athlete grind like him. He’s captain of the varsity cross country team, and will happily swear to anyone around that he’s the fastest one by far. Newt used to run with him, but there was an injury and a lot of crushed dreams and no one likes to talk about it much. It’s surprising how quickly people can move on.
Thomas is new, just switched over to your school a few weeks ago. He’s got this freaky sort of determination that makes you want to stand and watch while he tears up everything you’ve ever known. You’re all sort of fascinated by him, and you have no doubt that if there’s anyone capable of acing the SAT and making it far enough out of here to see the walls of an Ivy League, it would be him.
The others are just as fun. Teresa’s new too, although she usually keeps to herself. Thomas knows her the best. Frypan, president of the school cooking club, can usually be seen proffering boxes of freshly baked delicacies to his friends. They’re all good kids, the lot of them. Even Chuck, who might have been someone’s younger brother or babysitting victim or just some kid they picked up. He’s years younger than any of them and goes to the local elementary school, but he’s still there half the time you see them hanging out together.
Of all of the friends, though, Newt is the enigma you’d most like to decipher. He’s quiet, for one thing, even despite the fact that he’s in such a joyful friend group. He’s smarter than anyone gives him credit for, maybe because he’s too modest to brag as much as anyone else.
And, for another thing, he’s cute. Terribly charming. Utterly impossible to ignore. He’s been in a handful of your classes for years now, and you’ve never been able to muster up the courage to have a conversation about more than classwork. Usually, he’s just on the other side of the room, working on the work from your very same lecture, and yet you can’t seem to say what you really want to him.
That might change this year, though. He’s in your history class, and the teacher has given you the best blessing any educational faculty member can provide and seated you right next to him. The desks in that room are arranged in pairs, separate from everyone else save one person, and you are with Newt. It’s absolutely lovely.
So, yes, you can stare at him in math, as you’re doing right now, but the second that bell rings, you can take your time getting to history next period, because he will be there waiting for you, and he will smile up at you, and everything, everything, will be alright.
Only– when you get to class, there’s someone in your seat. It’s not a case of someone who forgot where their assigned seat was halfway through the year. In fact, this misplaced student isn’t even in your class. This is Thomas, who should be across the hall, but isn’t.
Apparently he’s run in to urge Newt to do something. You try to hear more as you drift closer, but just when you’re within hearing range, Newt’s eyes flicker up to you and his entire body seems seized by some sort of terrible panic. He frantically cuts Thomas off, saying something about how he’ll totally do whatever they were talking about.
Thomas looks confused by the sudden change in mood, and glances over his shoulder to see you standing there, waiting for him. He stands up quickly, jokes about stealing your seat, and leaves in a rush. You let your backpack drop to the ground, and look back at the hurriedly departing Thomas. The brown-haired boy flashes Newt an eager thumbs up before leaving, which makes absolutely no sense.
You take your seat at last, peering over at Newt for some kind of explanation. The blond boy just stares intently at his homework, mumbling something about how he doesn’t know what that was about. It’s obvious that you’re not going to get any answers from him now, so you sigh and grab your books from your bag.
The second you look away, though, you can see Newt cautiously looking back at you out of the corner of your eye, a soft smile slipping over his face when he thinks you won’t notice. You trust Newt that he won’t do anything to embarrass you, so that business with Thomas truly must have been nothing at all.
Still, you’re curious, but Newt behaves pretty much the same throughout the class. You watch him out of the corner of your eye the whole time, waiting for him to slip up and say something, but no dice. He looks a little uneasy, but it doesn’t seem like anything major.
When the teacher dismisses the class to work on a packet with your assigned seating partner, you expect Newt to do something, but no. He keeps clearing his throat like he’s going to say a few words, but he seems to lose his nerve every time and fades back into silence or, worse, a discussion of 17th century trading practices as you’re meant to be doing.
You almost think that you’re going to go the whole class without a single thing coming of Thomas’ intrusion when the bell rings, dismissing everyone to their next period. You stand up, starting to shove your books and folders into your backpack once more. Newt stands too, looking gripped by panic.
“Y/N,” he begins, then cuts himself off just as quickly.
“Yeah?” You ask, distracted by the zipper on your backpack, which has chosen this very moment to get stuck.
“Would you– would you like to see a movie with me sometime? There are a few good ones at the theater nearby, if you’d want to do something like that. If you don’t want to, that’s cool, obviously, but I was kind of hoping that–”
Newt’s tripping over himself by now, but you clear his nerves with a single smile. “Newt,” you say, “I would love to go out with you.”
“Really?” He asks, a little ahead of himself. “I mean, yeah, that sounds great. Does Friday work?”
“Friday’s perfect,” you tell him.
“Cool,” he says, “Cool, yeah. I’ll see you then.”
“Can’t wait,” you grin.
You don’t think you’d mind standing there a while longer, with Newt looking at you with that radiant smile, but unfortunately you are still in school, and you still have classes to get to. One of your friends calls your name from across the room, irritably wondering why you’re still lingering there.
You allow yourself a beat longer, then leave at last. Newt is looking at you when you vanish from view, you think, but for once you understand what he’s not saying, what he means the most, and that– well, that is absolutely everything.

En Garde Sneak Peak at Chapter 3
Thought I would share a little sneak peak at the next chapter of En Garde my Modern Day Fencing Rookanis AU, Full chapter will be uploaded Friday
Snippet under the cut
He takes a deep breath and relaxes his shoulders, lets it out slowly, and smiles hearing footsteps drawing closer. "Good morning, White Rose." He says and the footsteps pause. "How do you do that." Altara grins when he finally turns to look at her. "Do what?" He says but from the smile on his lips, he knew very well what she meant. "You always know it's me without even looking." He chuckles. "You favour your left leg, it makes the way you walk different." She looks at the floor and he thinks he might have said something to upset her.
"It's an old injury." She sets her lips into a grim line for a moment then she forces a smile. "I got coffee." She says holding it out for him, He smiles. "Bribery will not make me go easy on you." He teases as he accepts her offering, her smile this time is genuine "It's not bribery, It's the least I can do." She says sipping her own. He tilts his head at her curiously. "You're teaching me for free." He nods. "I'm not just doing it out of the kindness of my heart." He says and she looks up at him, eyes wide.
"You're the White Rose of Orlais, I wanted to see if you were as formidable as you are on TV." She blushes. "Am I?" She asks with a raised eyebrow. "Very." He grins and she flushes a deeper red. He does not know why his heart flutters at her reaction. he clears his throat and grabs his kit. "You're in a playful mood this morning." She says pulling on her gear. "Am I?" He says sliding on his helmet and stepping onto the piste.
She watches him for a moment, she knows he is watching her despite his face being covered, he holds himself like he had all the time in the world, his foil held loosely at his side, she blinks quickly pulling on her helmet and stepping onto the piste. "Pret." He calls without missing a beat, she tenses needing a moment to compose herself but then he calls again. "Allez," And she is immediately on defense, he is coming at her quickly, and without hesitation, she gasps parrying him and stepping back as he advances and she can do nothing but parry, she is running out of piste as she steps back. Even if he didnt score a point with his foil she would lose if she stepped off the piste.
She smiles he is testing her, she lunges forward, and he deflects her easily, she advances, beating her foil against his, he retreats and then she moves faster, they are both breathing hard, normally a point would already have been called if this was a match, she lunges again and this time he is unable to parry in time, her foil bends, the point pressed to his chest. He chuckles and steps back lowering his foil. "You need to be able to react quicker, as soon as you are on the piste." She nods "We are just training." she says lowering her foil.
He shakes his head. "Dont think of this as training, every bout is a match when you're with me." She stills the way he said with me sent a shiver down her spine. "I should think of you as an opponent?" She asks and he nods. "Alright." she steps into the en garde position, and he mirrors her. "Pret," He calls she swallows and readies herself. "Allez" She moves instantly within range her foil moving like lightening, he parries steps back and laughs as she lunges, he moves fluidly, their foils meeting and circling as he steps forward, she deflects his foil and steps back.

One Piece Mordern Gym Au (Part 21)
Zoro ended up taking the bus home with Sanji. They made sure to find his bike beforehand and place it somewhere it could stay until the next day without getting towed by the police. Sanji even offered to come along the next day to help Zoro find it again - which earned him a playful shove.
“You ever gonna tell me how you can afford to live here?” Zoro wanted to know when they waited for the elevator.
“It’s my fathers,” Sanji mumbled, staring straight ahead at the metal doors.
“Oh, he must be generous to let you live here.”
“Yeah, something like that…or more like hush money…”
Zoro physically felt the mood shift, and he thought feverishly about how to turn it around again.
“I…”
“Then again. I can do things like buying expensive meals for my dates, so it’s not entirely bad,” Sanji grinned at him, but the smile never reached his eyes.
“If it’s gonna hurt your father, we can do this every day. I won't complain about it,” Zoro smiled back, trying to make the best out of the situation.
“You can’t eat that much, believe me.”
“Ha! Is that a challenge? We can try it sometime. I’m happily proving you wrong. Ah and we could invite Luffy. I swear he’s a black hole when it comes to food!”
And now Sanji was laughing genuinely and relaxed again. Zoro smiled as they both stepped into the elevator. The ride up was quiet but comfortable.
“I’m gonna fix the bed for you,” Sanji said as they stepped into his apartment. “Just feel like home, I won’t take long.”
Zoro stopped him with the wave of a hand. “It’s fine, I take the couch.”
“But…I have a perfectly fine guest room. I just have to change the sheets.”
“Curls, you don't have to do that. I actually like sleeping on couches. Just give me a blanket later and I’ll be fine.”
Sanji shrugged. “If you say so.”
His posture eased after Zoro nodded confidently. He walked over to the kitchen and got himself a glass of water and one for Zoro, too.
“What are we doing now?” Zoro wanted to know after downing the water in one go.
“Don’t know…what would you like to do?“
“Hm…”
Zoro thought for a moment if he could be a bit quirky and just say “you” or if it would bother Sanji. He couldn't tell. So he opted for the next best thing.
“Let’s watch some TV?” he asked.
“Sure. Any specific wishes?”
“Na, just put a show on you like. I don't mind much what I’m watching, as long as it’s good.”
Sanji led him over to his couch in front of the big flat screen. While Zoro sat down, Sanji walked to the cupboard beside the TV and opened it.
“What’s the mood? Horror? Science Fiction? Fantasy?” Sanji turned around and with a cheesy smirk. “Love and Romance?”
“Horror?”
“Alright, any wishes?”
Zoro shook his head. He was okay with anything. Sanji went through his DVDs for a moment and pulled one out with a satisfied smile. He put the DVD into the recorder and sat down beside Zoro.
“Blare Witch?” Zoro asked with a raised eyebrow.
A hint of red spread over Sanji’s cheeks at the question.
“Yeah…don’t you like it? I can put another movie on.”
“No,” Zoro grinned and made himself mor comfortable on the couch. “I used to watch that to fall asleep when I was younger. It’s a good movie.”
“To fall asleep? You serious?”
A deep chuckle sounded that made goosebumps appear on Sanji’s arms.
“Yeah. I love the movie, but to stay awake I prefer something with more action…And no, you don't have to switch movies. I can stay awake and if not, just put a blanket over me.”
Zoro laughed through the last part und Sanji shook his head. He settled for a more comfortable position and looked at the TV.
Halfway through the movie, he felt a sudden weight on his shoulder. Turning his head, Sanji saw Zoro’s head lying on it.
“Sleeping already, Moss?”
“Na, just enjoying a good pillow,” Zoro mumbled, smiling up at him. „And almost sleeping…“
„We can turn it off and you can go to bed. I don’t need to watch the whole movie,“ Sanji said, already grabbing the remote.
„It‘s fine. I always sleep better with background noise.“
„Okay.“
It was strangely cute how Zoro snuggled up against Sanji’s side. Knees slightly bend so he would fit on the couch. Head on Sanji’s shoulder, and arms loosely wrapped around himself.
It didn't take long for Zoro to fall asleep. Sanji stayed until then movie was finished and smiled dumbly the whole time. Who would have said that Zoro was so cuddly?
A look to the watch hanging beside the door to his left told him that it was almost half past eleven. A good time to go to bed…not like he could do anything different without waking Zoro.
So he carefully got up and lay Zoro down on the couch. A grunt sounded as he snuggled closer to the backrest. Sanji smiled while grabbing a blanket and covering him up a bit. It wasn't really cold, but he knew his apartment. Soon the heating would turn off for the night and it could get annoyingly cold. He didn't want Zoro to freeze or to get sick.
After checking the kitchen and his supplies to create a decent breakfast, Sanji also went to bed.

Naked in Manhattan is SUCH a Marylily song, like just-
"New crush, high school love again
The rush of slumber party kissing"
The vibes of this song sync so well with their aesthetic.
"Don't touch, I'll never cross the line" is the most friends to lovers phrase
"So I pushed you down a million times"
I'd say this song is mostly Lily POV because my girl has issues confronting feelings and expressing wants ngl
"I'd love if you knew you were on my mind Constant like cicadas in the summertime"
The frustrating but adorable slow burn it takes them to get together
"Touch me, baby, put your lips on mine Could go to hell, but we'll probably be fine"
The fear of society and their love for each other overpowering it (because life is hard enough as it is for two muggleborn girls :()
"I know you want it, baby, you can have it Oh, I've never done it, let's make it cinematic"
"Touch me, baby (touch me, touch me, touch me, touch me) Touch me, baby (naked in Manhattan)"
These parts could be read as both internally pleading the other to make the first move because both are haunted by all kinds of 'What if..?'s
"Pisces who knew that we were so aligned When I sing that Lana song, it makes you cry Mean Girls, we watch it every night And we both have a crush on Regina George"
This part has 2 pop culture references that fit in any Marylily Mordern AU so easily!! Imagine Mary singing for Lily y'all- Lily Evans is 100% an astrology girlie btw.
"You love peach and ice cream Bedazzled, Chanel rings"
Just Lily noticing all the little things about Mary and falling for every single one of them<33
Now the line that made me immediately associate this song with them:
"An inch away from more than just friends".
Just- can you IMAGINE the amount of time, chemistry, love, and pining it takes to get to this point??? Just a passing glance at your "friend" and your heart feels like it's about to beat out of your chest. Looking in each other's eyes and finding someone who understands you so so much. Hugging and then wishing that the time would stop at that moment for ever. Lingering touches, stolen looks, then pretending it didn't happen because what if it goes wrong? Face inches away from theirs and praying to every single deity that it goes right.
"Hair clips and lip gloss French kiss sitting criss-crossed If I don't try, then it's my loss An inch away from more than just friends"
The slow and steady turn into more than just friends<3
"Won't you fucking touch me? I just want to touch you (naked in Manhattan) I want all of your love (naked in Manhattan) Oh, yeah, oh (naked in Manhattan) Naked in Manhattan"
And this is the endless want that overtakes them both once they finally get together.
In conclusion, this song has all elements that this lovely sapphic ship has, and I read just lovers and then has been stuck in a marylily brainrot for the past 3 days.
I'd like to thank @moutainrusing for encouraging me to fall into this ship weeks ago <3

If you want to, only if you want to
jinx/powder x female reader — 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞'𝐬⠀𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭
summary: when your ex girlfriend thought you'd move on with another woman, she tried to ruin your "date." (request from @Snow0Knight0 on ao3) warnings/themes: fluff and slight angst, ex lovers, valentines, amusement park date, mordern au, jealous!jinx, isha's sister!reader, bible terms ig as a metaphors, pov switch words: 9.7k notes: kinda ooc jinx cz i think she'll go on a rampage if she's jealous 🤷♀️
You sit on a park bench, watching your little sister play with Jinx. Isha chases after Jinx in circles around the park while Jinx hides behind trees. You see Jinx pop her head out from behind a tree and make faces at your sister before ducking back behind the trunk. Isha giggles, then keeps running after her.
Your little sister can't wait to see Jinx again. After all, they had so much fun the last time they played together. But things aren't the same anymore because you and Jinx are no longer together. Though you can't say no to your little sister, so here you are.
Isha keeps on after Jinx, her legs running as fast as they can go. Jinx grins and sticks her tongue out as she runs backward. “You gotta keep up, kiddo!”
You pull out your phone to film your little sister. But right before you hit record, your phone starts ringing. It's your boss.
You look down at your phone screen, then back up at your little sister. She's still chasing after Jinx, giggling the whole time. You hesitate, then swipe to answer the call.
—
“Yeah, I'm free next week.”
Jinx stops running, suddenly curious about your conversation. She slows down and looks over your way, trying to hear what you're saying.
Isha looks confused, her face scrunched up in a frown. She glances up at Jinx, then back to you.
“Okay, I'll see you next Friday then.”
Next friday? As in on valentine's day? Why are you making plans with someone else on one of the biggest couples holidays there is?
Jinx narrows her eyes at you. She can see the phone up to your ear. Who are you talking to? why are you planning to do something with someone else on valentine's day?
Isha tugs at Jinx's hand, wanting to continue playing. But Jinx is too preoccupied to pay attention to your little sister right now.
Jinx turns to Isha, her attention still partly on you. She squints her eyes. “Hey, listen, kiddo.”
Isha cocks her head to the side, curious why Jinx isn't playing with her anymore.
Jinx lowers her voice to a hush and whispers so that only Isha can hear. “Do you know if your sister already has a girlfriend or something?”
Isha just shrugs. She doesn't know. She doesn't really care about her sister's love life, at least not as much as Jinx does. Though she remembers you and Jinx dating, and she knows you've broken up. But all that matters now is that she plays with her favorite people, like you and Jinx.
Jinx frowns, not happy with the lack of answer she's getting from your little sister.
She's not mad... at least, not right now. She's still not sure if the person you were talking to was a girl or not, or if you two really had something going on for you to make such plans. But the thought of you spending that day with anyone but her is bothering her.
To be clear, Jinx isn't like… jealous or anything. She's just curious. Yeah, just curious. To know why you're talking to someone on the phone and what they want with you, specifically on a day like that.
Still, Jinx tries to shrug it off. You do have your own life. You're not together anymore.
She doesn't care. She doesn't care if you spend a stupid holiday with someone. She doesn't even care that you two aren't together anymore. You have every right to make plans with someone else. She can't be mad... nope, definitely not mad at all.
She looks down at your sister, who's still standing there, staring up at her expectantly. She remembers that she's supposed to be playing with her.
Jinx tries to smile at your little sister. It's forced, though. She decides to put her focus back on the kid in front of her. She can't spend her time worrying or getting upset over you and your weird phone call. Nah, it's better to focus on the little one in front of her. Playing with her is much better than worrying about you. Definitely.
“So…” Jinx starts. “Still wanna play tag?”
—
A few days later, Jinx still can't shake the thought. She knows she shouldn't care... but that doesn't stop the thought from being there. That doesn't stop it from thinking about you with someone else.
She needs to know who you're seeing. She needs to know who you're going to spend Valentine's day with.
So, she keeps trying to get more information from your little sister, whenever and however she can.
One day, Jinx finally gets the information she's been looking for.
And now, she's standing outside a cafe. Jinx sees you through the window, talking to someone. She watches as you laugh at something this woman says. She can't see who it is. She can't hear whatever the conversation you're having. But she can see you laughing, and that... that makes her stomach churn.
She's seen you happy before. But there's just something about the way you're laughing with this woman. It's making her feel... something.
Wait.
Is she jealous?
No, that's just stupid. She just wants to know who you're talking with. Yup. That's all. She just wants to know who you're seeing. She's not jealous.
Jinx steps inside the cafe, the bell above the door jingling. Her eyes are locked on you, not even twitching an inch. She's so focused on you that she's not even paying attention to anything else. Not even the barista trying to ask her what she wants to order.
“Um... ma'am?” the barista tries again.
Jinx finally snaps out of it, turning her attention toward the barista. She realizes that she probably looked weird, just staring at you like that.
She blinks once, twice, before she answers. “Uh…” She looks back at you, and then back at the barista. “Oh... um... yeah. Can I get a…” Jinx looks at the menu. “A caramel mocha, or something…”
The barista nods, not minding Jinx's sudden zoning out. “Sure thing. And just so you know-” they continue, as they start preparing her order. “We have a discount for couples, especially since it's Valentine's today.”
Oh?
Jinx's eyes dart back to you, and she starts to put two and two together. Couples? Discount? Does that mean you and that woman are…
—
“Hahaha… yeah.” You force out a laugh, feeling awkward. Free food. Yeah, free food is good.
You don't have work today, thanks to your boss who's sitting in front of you.
Spending Valentine's day with your boss of all people and…
Ugh.
It's not a date. It's just a meeting. Just a meeting that your boss decided to have on valentine's day.
You're sitting across from your boss, forcing out a laugh as she talks about… about-
Wait. What was she talking about? you were too busy thinking about the fact that you were in a valentine's meeting with your boss that you didn't pay attention to the actual conversation.
“I must say,” your boss chimes in with a smile, taking a sip of her coffee. “I'm quite impressed with your recent work.”
You force a smile back. “Oh, um… thank you, ma'am.”
Your boss nods. “In fact-” your boss continues, but their voice starts to fade out. Why? Because…
Your attention suddenly drifts towards the door. The bell jingles as someone new walks in.
You're not sure why... but you feel the sudden urge to look at whoever has just walked in. Is it... is it a feeling? a weird feeling?
“Promotion”
What?
Did you just hear your boss say... promotion?
The noise in the cafe suddenly dies out. You're no longer listening to the sound of coffee being brewed, or the barista taking orders, or the hum of conversation.
Your focus is on the one word you just heard.
Promotion.
“Promotion?” you repeat. As in, a pay raise. As in, even more responsibilities. As in-
“Yes.” She puts her coffee down. “You've been an excellent employee. You're diligent, focused, and always go the extra mile.”
Just before she can get another word out, something happens. Just when everything seems to be going right with those precious words “promotion,” something just HAS to happen.
Accidents happen, right?
Except this one is a really big accident.
Because some idiot accidentally spilled a hot, caramel mocha with a mountain of whipped cream all over your boss's shirt.
“What the-” your boss's eyes widen when she sees the ruined blouse that she's wearing. “Who on earth-”
“Oh god. I'm so, so sorry.” The idiot who caused this whole mess apologizes, stepping closer to your boss.
Wait-
There's something about that voice...
Why does it sound so familiar?
Your head turns slowly toward the source of the voice.
Your ex.
Jinx.
JINX?!
What is she doing here?!
“Again, I'm so sorry.” Jinx repeats herself as she tries to fix the mess, grabbing some napkins from the table and using them to soak up the mess on your boss's shirt. “I didn't mean to-” Her head suddenly turns in your direction.
Why is she... why is she here? she already spent time with your little sister last week, what could she possibly want-
“Oh-” your boss interrupts, noticing the way Jinx looks at you, or the way you're looking at Jinx. “You two... know each other?”
Shit.
This is going to be awkward.
“Uh…” You look over at Jinx. She's still staring at you with that look on her face. Why does she look like that? Is she trying to tell you something? “We're just old friends.”
You cringe at the words. Friends isn't the right word to use, but you know you had to say something. You couldn't just say, “Oh yeah, she's my ex and I don't know what the hell she's doing here.” There's no way you're saying that in front of your boss.
Then you notice the way Jinx clenches her jaw, just subtly. You know that look on her face. The one where she's trying to hold something back. Not that she's going to explode or anything, it's just... the expression tells you that she has something to say.
And she looks pissed.
Why is she pissed? You didn't say anything wrong. You aren't together anymore, right? So shouldn't everything be fine?
But that doesn't matter now because you have bigger problems to deal with. Like how Jinx just spilled a freshly brewed, steaming hot coffee full of sugar and cream all over your boss's blouse.
“Yep.” Jinx affirms with a nod. “We're just old, good friends.”
Your boss looks between the two of you. Then, she takes a napkin and dabs some of the excess, creamy liquid off.
You stand there, waiting for the moment when your boss will explode. That she'll get extremely mad at the woman who has just ruined her blouse (which cost probably double of your salary) and demand compensation.
But-
Your boss just sighs.
“How... unfortunate.” She murmurs, looking down at her blouse.
That's it?
Why isn't she asking for compensation? or demanding an apology? or an explanation? or whatever else one would demand in this kind of situation?
“Don't worry about it.” Your boss reassures. “It was just an unfortunate accident.” She smiles at Jinx and then places the stained, crumpled up napkin onto the table. “I'm just... out of luck, because I don't have a spare blouse to change.”
—
Jinx didn't expect that.
She thought she'd get chewed out by your ‘girlfriend’ for ruining her expensive shirt, have to pay for it, or something similar. But instead, she just walked over to the shop across the street, picked out an expensive replacement for the ruined shirt, paid for it, and then went into the changing room to try it on.
Now, you and Jinx are just sitting next to each other on a white leather couch, close enough that your thighs almost brush, but far enough that you have enough space to not actually touch.
Her foot is tapping impatiently against the tiled floor. She's staring at the side of your head, trying to catch your attention. Your eyes are glued on a random painting on the wall across from the couch.
It's quiet and uncomfortable.
She remembers how many times in the past you and her would sit on a couch like this. In her place, in your place, it didn't matter.
She'd be snuggled up next to you, sitting on your lap, and you'd have an arm around her waist, or she'd place your hand on her thigh, or her hand on the back of your neck, or she would be playing with your hair.
But now, she's keeping both hands to herself, and it feels... wrong. Like something is missing.
“So…” Jinx drawls, the tapping of her foot stops. “You and your d-” She barely gets the word out before you interrupt her.
“What are you doing here-” you turn to face her, and the words just kind of blurt out of you, “-I mean, why are you-”
“What do you mean, what am I doing here? I was at the cafe.”
“Why were you in the cafe?”
“What?”
“Did you know that I was going to be there?”
“No,” she lies. “Why do you think I went to the cafe? Do you think I'm stalking you or something?”
“Are you?”
“What?!” Jinx throws her hands up in frustration. “Since when do I stalk people?”
You give her a look, one that says, ‘really?’
“Don't look at me like that! I've never stalked anyone in my life. Ever.” She huffs. “I was just... doing my own thing. I just happened to be there. In the same place. At the same time. That's all. A coincidence.” Jinx pauses, realizing her own words, how it sounds, and how she sounded. She then looks at you, eyes tracing over your face, before she suddenly looks away. “Anyway,” she says, “you and that woman... are you two a thing?” she asks, trying to change the topic.
“Why do you care?”
Why does she care?
She doesn't.
She shouldn't.
She can't care.
She has no right to care.
She left you. She pushed you away. She can't care anymore, because that would make her a hypocrite, to push you away but care for you at the same time.
She's supposed to be moving on. That's what she was supposed to do.
But why does she still feel like this?
Why does her heart ache? Why does it ache because she's sitting right next to you, and she can't do anything but keep her hands to herself? Why does it ache because your shoulders are only an inch away from touching? Why can't you just touch each other again? Why do just a few inches feel so... lonely?
She's supposed to be over you. It's been months.
Months!
She doesn't understand why she still feels this way. She tries to date other people, but none of them compare to you.
And that's not fair.
It's not fair because she keeps comparing everything about them to how you used to be.
She compares the color of their outfit to yours, she compares the way they walk to yours, she compares the sound of their voice to yours.
Her mind keeps finding little things in them that remind her of you.
How their hands feel too rough. How their smiles are too forced. How their eyes never lit up like yours did. How their hugs didn't feel right. How they never seemed to get her the way you did.
It's all wrong.
Because they're not you. No one could compare to you.
She tries to convince herself that she's over you, that she doesn't care, that she doesn't miss you. That the fact that you've found someone else shouldn't bother her at all, that she's totally fine with the fact that you've clearly given your attention to someone else. That she has no right to be jealous, no right to be like this.
So she repeats the same thing she's been telling herself for months.
“I don't care,” she lies to herself and lies to you. Her eyes darts to your hand, close enough for her to take if she reached out her own hand. “It doesn't bother me.”
“Of course it doesn't.” You scoff. “It has nothing to do with you.”
It has something to do with her.
Before she can say anything else, the changing room door opens, and the woman walks out wearing a new black and white blouse.
“Ah, much better.” The woman looks at herself, smoothing out the wrinkles on the fabric. She turns her attention to you. “What do you think?” She smiles. “Looks better, doesn't it?”
Jinx glares at her. That woman looks dumb in the stupid white and black blouse, which somehow manages to look cheaper than the previous blouse even though it probably cost more.
“Yeah.” You force yourself to look away from Jinx, standing up from the couch. “It looks good.”
Jinx grinds her teeth, standing up as well. The way you speak to her like that, it... annoys her. It makes her want to do something petty.
“Glad you think so,” she continues, adjusting the collar. “At least this is presentable. Unlike my previous blouse, which is now... coffee-stained.”
Jinx smirks at that. But her smirk quickly disappears when the woman turns to look at her.
“Speaking of that,” the woman says, her eyes locking onto Jinx. “I don't believe we've had a proper introduction. I'm Cassandra. Cassandra Kiramman. What's your name?”
“Uh…”
“Don't be shy,” she says, in a tone that could be perceived the wrong way, and it grates on Jinx's already thin temper. “I just thought we should greet each other properly, especially after the… earlier accident.”
“Jinx,” she replies. “Just Jinx.”
“Jinx,” the woman repeats. “Interesting name.”
“Better than your boring name,” Jinx mutters.
You elbow her side. Jinx holds back a grimace.
“What was that?” The woman's brow quirks.
“Nothing,” Jinx lies. “Just…” She looks down at the woman's designer heels. “I was just admiring your heels.”
“Oh.” The woman looks down at her heels as well, raising one foot up to show them off. “I got them at the same store I bought this outfit.”
Jinx snorts. “Cheap.”
The woman either doesn't hear what Jinx just said or she just ignores it. Instead, she holds out her hand, and Jinx stares down at it.
“It's nice to meet you, Jinx,” the woman says, still holding out her hand. “I hope we-”
You nudge Jinx. “Be nice,” you whisper.
Jinx scoffs but begrudgingly reaches out and grips the woman's hand. “Likewise.” She forces a smile onto her face.
The woman's hand feels too soft. Jinx could break her with her bare hands if she wants to. Which she is very much considering.
“I'm glad that's settled then.” She lets go of Jinx's hand, and Jinx wipes it on her pants, trying to rid that weird feeling off her skin. Everything about her just makes her sick. Even her name, Cassandra, makes her want to hurl.
The woman starts to walk towards the counter. “I'll just... go pay for this.”
“Sure.” You say, watching her walk away.
—
After your boss pays for her overpriced blouse at the register, she pulls you outside, away from Jinx, who stands several feet away. Jinx can see you talking to her, but she can't hear what you're saying.
“About that promotion…” your boss starts. “Your name is still in the running for consideration, however, we're still going to be discussing it before making any final decisions.”
“Since my name was mentioned?” you repeat, “so there are already some possible employees they're considering?”
“Yes,” she says, looking at you with a stern and serious face. “The only problem being…”
“...being?” you prompt.
“How do I put this?” Your boss clears her throat. “Your performance has been excellent, to say the least. You've always exceeded our expectations and more, and your skills have certainly improved over the years.”
Your confidence rises a bit. “But?”
“But,” your boss continues, “the decision isn't solely based on your performance.”
“How so?” you probe. “It's always based on performance, right?”
“Not in this case,” your boss explains. “In regard to the promotion, the decision is up to the board members.”
The board members? Up until this point, you had assumed that the decision was made by the managers, but you guess it makes sense, since you're dealing with a large company.
“You mean the... big guys? The ones who are…”
“Rich, wealthy, snobby?” Your boss completes your sentence for you. Smirk forms on her lips, as if the board annoys her as well.
“Ahh... and that could be bad…?”
Your boss pauses for a moment, then, “...yes.”
“Why?”
“Because the board is a bit finicky.” She sighs. “They're not one to make decisions easily, and they've always had this... habit of arguing over even the most trivial affairs.”
“So… it’s not looking good for me then?”
“Don't say that,” your boss says. “It's not looking terrible for you.”
“I see.” You chew the inside of your cheek. “Wait, does that mean I have to impress the board members?”
“Yes, that's exactly it.” Your boss agrees. “The members are picky, so to speak.”
Figures. Of course the rich assholes are picky bastards.
Your boss gives your shoulders a reassuring pat before returning her hand to her side. “Just-” she glances over your shoulder towards Jinx, “-try not to worry about it, alright? It's out of your control.”
Jinx continues to glare at the woman. Your boss leans in to whisper, “Your friend-” she nods at Jinx “-doesn't seem to like me very much.”
You follow her gaze.
Jinx notices the two of you staring and suddenly finds great interest in a nearby pigeon pecking at the ground.
“Yeah…” you reply, laughing nervously.
Your boss chuckles, turning to you again. “Anyway, I've got to run. But don't bother coming to work today. You have the day off so-” She gives you a smile and glances towards Jinx, “-spend the rest of your Valentine's day... with her.”
“Oh no, we're not-”
“Don't give me that.” She cuts you off. “I'm not naive, okay? I'm not stupid. I know you two are a thing. It's obvious.”
“Was.” You correct her.
Your boss doesn't seem to care much about the correction. She doesn't react at all. No surprise, no shock, no disappointment. “Was, is, who cares?”
Huh. What is this woman talking about? “Excuse me?”
Your boss ignores your confused look. “The point is, the two of you have something. Something that still hasn't faded.” She motions at Jinx, who's still busy watching a pigeon pick at some bread crumbs on the ground. “I'd better get going. Take the day off for yourself. And…” She gives you a knowing look. “Figure things out.”
With that, your boss turns around and waves to you before walking away. You watch her go, dumbfounded and confused. Is she right? Does Jinx still have feelings for you?
—
Jinx hates the way the woman pulls you outside, she hates the way the woman lays her hand on your shoulder, she hates the way the woman leans into you to whisper something that Jinx hates because she couldn't hear what the two of you were talking about. When the two of you catch her looking, she suddenly looks away.
She hears you laugh. It's the most beautiful sound she's ever heard, but it's the fact that you're laughing with someone else that pisses her off.
She focuses her attention on the bird pecking at the ground.
That's right.
Focus on the bird, not the sound of your laughter. Ignore the way the woman keeps her hand on your shoulder. Don't pay any attention to the way the two of you are talking.
Just focus on the bird. Nothing but the bird.
She could turn and leave right now if she wanted to. Nobody's forcing her to stay. She doesn't even know why she stuck around and followed you and the woman into this shop in the first place. But she wants to stay. She wants to stay because you're here. Because of you.
This is ridiculous.
It's none of her business. You two aren't together anymore. You're not her responsibility. You're not her issue to deal with. She's free to do whatever and whoever she wants.
She hears footsteps getting closer to her, and she turns her head to see you coming over. She looks around, noticing the woman is gone.
“Did you bid your farewells to your girlfriend yet?” she asks curtly.
“She's not my girlfriend,” you reply, walking to her side.
“Oh…” She turns back to the pigeon but finds it has flown away, leaving a few bread crumbs on the ground. She's left with nothing to focus her attention on aside from you. “Then what is she?”
It's a stupid question, but she asks it anyway. It's not like she's entitled to your intimate details.
“She's just my boss.”
She lets out a sigh. Is it a sigh of relief? Maybe.
“You know… you've been glaring at me the whole time,” you continue.
She snorts. “That's just because your face is irritating to look at, nothing else."
“Oh, I'm sure that's the only reason.”
No, it's not just the only reason.
“So what is it then, huh?” she asks, irritated. “Is she flirting with you?”
“No.”
“She laid her hand on your shoulder, didn't she?”
“Is that what you're worked up about? That she laid her hand on my shoulder?”
“Why did she do that anyways?”
“It's no big deal, she's just-”
Jinx interrupts you. “Why did she do it? what compelled her to touch you like that? It's not very appropriate for your boss to be physically affectionate towards you.”
“Since when were you a stickler for rules and appropriate conduct?”
“I'm not.”
“Then why are you so worked up about a simple touch?”
“Because it's not just a simple touch.”
“What? So now you're the authority on what a simple touch looks like?”
“I know a lust driven touch when I see one.”
“Lust driven? What are you, insane?”
“I'm not insane,” Jinx grumbles. “I know the difference between an innocent touch and a not-so-innocent touch.”
“Not-so-innocent? Seriously, Jinx. What are you—do you think my boss has a thing for me?”
“Don't be dense. It's obvious that she has the hots for you.”
“Jinx, she's married. Didn't you see that ring on her finger?”
That makes Jinx pause.
A ring?
Huh... she didn't notice it.
Had she really been so focused on you that she hadn't noticed?
“And married people can't want anyone else? you'd be pretty blind if you think married people can't have crushes, or feelings, or affairs... oh god, is she having an affair with you?”
“What?! No, she's not-” You facepalm. “What in the world would make you think that my boss, who's happily married by the way, would be cheating on her husband with me? That's fucking insane!” You pause, suddenly realizing something. “...wait a minute?”
“What?”
“Earlier today... the spilled drink. That was on purpose, wasn't it?!”
She remains silent.
“You're jealous,” you state.
“What? Jealous? That's bullshit.” Her face heats up. She's a terrible liar, isn't she?
“Then why are you so bothered by the fact that my boss-”
“Because you're mine!”
And there it is. This is what she wanted to hide. Her jealousy, her possessiveness, her attachment to you.
The words slip out before she can even think, and they're so loud and so clear that anyone within a few meters could've heard them. There was no plan, no filter, no hesitation. Just the words that spill out from her mouth before her brain could catch up.
What is she even saying? You're not hers. Why did she say that? She didn't mean it. She has to backtrack, change the subject, anything, just don't look like a blubbering idiot.
“I'm-” She turns away from you. “You're-” She covers her face with her hands and groans.
How pathetic.
Why did she just say that?!
She'll just laugh it off, right? Just say haha, kidding, no hard feelings, we can be friends... right?!
You rub your forehead and shake your head. “Jinx... even if my boss had any feelings for me, which she doesn't, but even if she did-”
The thought of you being with anyone else is driving Jinx completely crazy.
She can't bear to even imagine the thought of you being with someone else or your boss. She's already picturing it in her mind, the both of you together, laughing, smiling, happy, while you're wrapped around your boss like a dog. Your boss is so rich and successful and could provide you with everything you could ever want. And what could Jinx offer you?
Jinx turns to you, dropping her hand from her face. “Why WOULDN'T you be interested in her? She's got it all, for fuck's sake! She's pretty, she's nice, she's independent, she's successful… she's everything any guy or girl would want. What's not to like?”
“Because she's not you!”
“Pfft! Of course she's not me!” she scoffs, rolling her eyes. “She's got everything going for her. She's put together, mature, not a total mess-” her mind goes blank when she realizes what you'd said. “...wait. What did you say?”
“She's not you.”
Jinx opens her mouth to argue, then suddenly closes it. She looks away, biting her lip, refusing to look at whatever expression you have right now.
Why?
You shouldn't have said that. You shouldn't have said something like that.
Don't you realize this is only going to make things harder... and better?
—
Jinx isn't saying anything. You both are just... standing there in silence. People are passing by, couples holding hands, friends laughing and talking.
Your boss' words are still ringing in your ear. Figure things out.
You glance to the side, at the brick wall, and at the clock on the building. The second hand is ticking away. “We still have time,” you say, and you feel Jinx look at you.
“Time for what?”
“My sister isn't out of school yet, so…” You clear your throat. “I heard there's a new amusement park that just opened up nearby. Would you…”
Would you like to be my valentine? The words hang in your head, and your mouth refuses to say them. You just want to see if it's still there. If the connection you felt before is still present. If the feelings she had for you remain.
“Would you like to go with me?”
“...huh? Like, right now?”
“Er-” you sputter, “ONLY IF YOU WANT TO-” you add hastily. “I… I mean, if you're free-” You look down, shifting awkwardly. “If you're not-”
“I am!” she blurts out.
Okay, she agreed.
Wait, what?
Your head whips back up, eyes wide as you blink at her in silence.
“No, I-I mean, yes, I'm free,” Jinx clarifies.
“Are you sure?” you ask, “I only mean if you want-”
“Yes!” Jinx blurts out again, then clamps a hand over her mouth with a muttered ‘fuck’ when she realizes how eager she sounds.
You both just stand there awkwardly, staring at each other, before Jinx snaps herself out of her nervousness, eyes hardening as she puts on a confident smile. “Well,” she quips. “Lead the way.”
—
“Watch this.”
Jinx grips the fake pistol, a grin spread across her face. She lines up her shot, and-
BANG!
The target falls.
BANG!
Another falls.
BANG!
And another.
The park staff watch in shock at the girl's accuracy, while passersby stop to watch the impressive display of skill.
“Hell yeaaahh!” she crows, spinning the toy gun around her finger. “That's how it's done, baby!”
A group of teenagers watches her, chanting “MVP” and “QUEEN!”
Jinx shrugs, twirling the gun around. She hands the toy gun back to the staff and looks up above to choose a prize. “Hmmm... hmm... that one.” She points up to a giant stuffed pink shark, and the worker sighs.
“That-” they start before Jinx interrupts them.
“Yeah, I want the giant shark.”
The worker sighs heavier and takes the shark down, reluctantly handing it over to Jinx.
Giggling, she throws her prize towards you, and you awkwardly catch the gigantic stuffed animal under one arm.
“What-” you ask as she walks away. “Where are we going now?”
“Ooh! Let's go to that!” She points to the twisted rollercoaster as you struggle to keep pace with her.
The roller coaster looks like torture, and the line is so freaking long you could fall asleep while waiting.
“Can't we go on something... calmer?”
—
“I'm not so sure about this…” you hesitantly say as you're forced to sit next to Jinx in the roller coaster, her thigh touching yours since the seat is so damn small.
You try to fit the giant shark between you, and by some miracle, you manage to cram the stuffed toy in the already crowded space.
The staff comes to make sure everyone is buckled up and stops when they see the giant pink stuffed shark squished awkwardly between you two. “That uhhh... needs to be placed there.” They point over to a shelf where they take any extra luggage/belongings.
You and Jinx both turn around to look at the shelf, then back at the ride worker.
“Oh, right.” You nod and pick up the giant stuffed animal, handing it to the staff.
“Don't lose it-” Jinx warns them.
“Yeah, yeah, we won't,” the staff says, putting it on the shelf.
The bars come down and latch you in.
“Alright-” one of the staff says, “The ride is about to start!”
You look at Jinx, and she looks back at you. “Ready?” she asks, grinning.
“Uh, Ahahaha… sure.”
The staff member comes around one last time and checks to see if you're strapped in correctly. “All right-” they say. “Here we go-”
You gulp, swallowing nervously. You'd rather take on a bullet than ride this metal atrocity, but you're stuck with Jinx.
The ride starts moving, making the clicking sound as it's being lifted upwards to the very top of the coaster.
The ride climbs up to the top, and your nervousness only starts to increase as the rollercoaster continues to climb higher and higher. When it finally reaches the top, it suddenly stops moving, probably to give a few minutes for those to take pictures.
“Hey, look!” Jinx points to the view of the amusement park below the two of you. “We're so high up!”
“I just want to say…” you start, “that I ate the cake you put in the fridge last yea- AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH.”
The roller coaster suddenly drops, and the two of you are sent flying down at a high speed.
“OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD-” you scream over the roar of the coaster. Your screams are mixed in with the screams of everyone else.
“WOOOOOOO!” she yells, raising both of her arms in the air. “FUCK YEAAAHH!!”
The roller coaster does a series of sharp turns, drops, twists, and loops that completely mess with your perspective and gravity.
You feel like your stomach is somewhere in your thighs as the ride twists and turns around at breakneck speeds. “HOLY SHIT I CAN FEEL THE SKIN COMING OFF OF MY FACE AAAAAAAAAAAAAA.”
Jinx, on the other hand-
“IT'S SO FAST! FASTER FASTER FASTER!”
This is it. This is how you die.
—
…you somehow survived the roller coaster, but you're not so sure if your soul has left your body.
After the first roller coaster ride, you decided to take it easy on yourself and went on the carousel, but Jinx was having none of it and pulled you onto the next wild ride. And the next. And the next…
Eventually, you get your hands on the picture captured during the roller coaster.
Jinx laughs and stares at the picture before sticking it into her pocket. “You should see your face.” She giggles as you pass a few other people.
She's currently holding the giant shark stuffie in her arms as the two of you walk around, looking for something else to do.
You've done just about everything except for the log ride and there's no way you're going on that.
You're walking aimlessly through the park when you notice Jinx's pace starts to slow down, trailing behind you.
“Hey?” You turn around to look at her. “What's wrong?”
She's already looking up at the sky. “Do you want to try the ferris wheel?”
—
notes: i would 100% recommend listening to “come here” by kath bloom since this scene (and what happens afterwards) is inspired by the movie before sunrise
You sit in the ferris wheel, side by side. The ride starts moving, slowly bringing the two of you up higher and higher.
You stare out the window to your left, watching the world get farther and farther away as the cabin rises up.
The giant pink shark sits across from the two of you. You like this. Just you and her and the shark.
You feel her side pressed against yours, and you're unable to concentrate on anything besides that. She also looks unable to sit still because she's constantly shifting in her seat.
You sneak a glance at her and see her looking at the window as well. She notices you staring and turns her head to look at you. Suddenly, your eyes meet—you note the color of her irises. An artist might have trouble replicating them, but you think yours could do a pretty good job.
...and just like that, she looks away. Back to the window, finding something interesting to stare at on her side of the cabin.
It gives you a good opportunity to look your fill.
But then she looks back at you, and you look away. Your lips twitch into a faint smile before you quickly purse them together.
You feel her knee brush yours, just gently, like someone walking past you in a crowded room. Except this isn't an accident.
You turn your focus back outside the window, admiring the view. You see the top of the roller coaster you were just on, the carousel, and so many other places you've been today.
But your attention soon drifts to your right side and—oh. She's staring at you again.
Her eyes trace up the side of your head. Over your hair, around your ear…
…to your lips.
She wants to kiss you.
A fact that you notice quite easily.
You want to kiss her too.
You take a deep, trembling breath. You don't know if it's the height, or the cramped space, or the fact that you're alone with her right now—but it's starting to get hot in here.
You wait for a few more seconds, but then, unable to wait any longer, you turn to look at her-
Only to realize she already looked away before you could capture her gaze.
You look down at your lap, feeling the corner of your mouth twitching into a smile again, and... you don't bother stopping it, nor the way your tongue flicks out to wet your lower lip.
You're shaken out of your thoughts when the cabin jerks to a stop. It stopped at the very top. The highest point, where the view is the best.
You don't take time to look out the window. You can only focus on the woman sitting next to you.
Just one more look.
Just one more. That's all you want. You want to turn your head just one more time and kiss her right here in the cabin.
Just one more before you lean in and capture her lips with your own.
You don't know what pulls at your chest or your head, but suddenly you feel the urge to look back at her-
But she stares down at her lap, idly fiddling with her fingers, picking at the blue and pink nail polish. Her braids hide her face from your view. You want to reach out and tuck them behind her ear to see her face better... but you hesitate.
You wait for her to look at you, and when she does-
She looks up, and your eyes lock. She doesn't look away. Neither do you.
—
“Isha will love this.” Jinx chuckles, patting the pink shark sitting next to her.
You watch her from across the table. The diner around you is mostly empty, the staff working while waiting for the next customers to come in.
You look at the clock on the wall. Only an hour left before you have to pick up your little sister. Both of you decided to take a break from the amusement park and grab a bite to eat at the nearby diner.
Jinx sighs, drumming her fingers on the table, growing bored with the wait time. “I'm bored,” she whines, “Let's do something.”
You've been waiting for your order for a while. “Like what?”
She hums, thinking. “Like... roleplay.”
You shrug. Why not? You don't have anything else to do. “Alright, let's try it.”
She grins and leans forward, propping her chin on her hand. “Okay, you're going to pretend to call a friend, and I-” she points her finger at her chest, “-will answer. Sounds good?”
You're a bit confused, but you nod anyway. If you can humor her, maybe it'll pass the time. You lift your hand up and imitate holding a phone, with your thumb and pinky pointed upwards. “Ring ring.”
Jinx does the same and clears her throat before replying, “Heeellloo.”
The sound of her cheerful voice makes you crack a smile. “Hey.” You put on your serious but friendly tone, looking straight at her. “Is this... er-” You pause, your brain working to come up with a random name. “...is this Rebecca?”
“Heyyy yes it is, this is Becca.” Jinx tilts her head to the side. “How are you?”
You have to suppress a laugh. She really sounds like another person. “Yeah, I'm doing good. I was just calling to catch up. How's life been?”
“Oh, the usual. Work, sleep, rinse, and repeat,” she says with a sigh. “What about you?”
“Well…” You look down at the table, pretending to think of something, then look up and meet her eyes once again. “I met my ex.”
Jinx's (or rather, Rebecca's) eyes go wide, pretending to be shocked. “Your ex? Like, Jinx, your ex girlfriend? When did this happen?”
“Just today. I was having a meeting with my boss, and, well she… she kind of accidentally spilled a drink on her.”
Jinx's face scrunches up into an 'O' shape. “She spilled a drink on your boss?” she repeats. “What the hell? Why would she do that?”
“I think she's jealous.”
Jinx smirks. “So... what did you do? Did you two end up talking?”
“Yeah, we did,” you reply, watching her face. “She's still the same. Same eyes, same lips, same tattoos, same long braids of blue hair... beautiful as she always is.”
Jinx's expression softens. She listens to you intently, smiling.
You hesitate before continuing. “I still... love it.”
You stare down at the table and lay one of your hands on the surface.
“I like it when she looks at me,” you say, your fingers tracing the wood. “I like to feel her eyes on me when I look away.” Your eyes return to hers.
Jinx lets her hand rest on the table, her fingers only a few inches away from your own. The gap between your fingers is not close enough to touch, but it still causes your heart rate to pick up.
You look at her slender digits, tracing the faint veins on the back of her hand.
Her hand moves a bit, as if she were about to reach out and touch yours, but then she changes her mind. “Are you going to get back together?”
You contemplate her words, and then a snort of laughter escapes your lips. “We haven't really talked about it yet,” you answer.
There's a pregnant pause, the two of you looking into each other's eyes in silence.
You break the silence with a cough and return your hand back down to the table. You mimic hanging up the phone, signaling that the conversation is over. She does the same, coughing awkwardly.
“Your turn,” you say, “you call your friend.”
“Okay, okay.” She raises her hand, mimicking holding a phone once more. Brrrring brrrringggg.”
You play along and answer in a deep voice. “Sup, dude? What's up?”
She giggles at your tone. “Hey, how ya been?”
“Doin' just fine, ya know. Livin' the dream. You?”
“I'm doing just great,” she responds. “No, scratch that. I'm rapturous. Wanna know why?”
“And why, might I ask?”
“I met someone.”
“Who?”
“My ex.”
“Oh wow.”
“And the best part is,” she adds, looking at you. “She's here with me,” she continues. “Have you heard the saying that we're all our own angels and demons?”
You nod.
She hums and grins. “Well, turns out that's true. Because I'm looking at an angel right in front of me.”
That's so cheesy... and it's working. “How did you meet?” you ask, changing the topic.
“Oh yeah, about that…” She clears her throat and sits back. “Well,” she starts, drumming her fingers on the table. “I was just curious about who your... uh, I mean her…” She wrinkles her nose. “Valentine's date was. So I got info on her little sister.”
“My sis—I mean, her little sister?”
“Yep, that little squirt was actually pretty cooperative.” Jinx chuckles. “But I just saw her with another woman in a cafe. Turned out it was just her boss.”
You laugh at that, shaking your head.
She grins, satisfied that she was able to make you laugh.
The two of you sit in silence again, waiting for the waiter to bring your orders.
“Anyway, I know we have a lot to talk about,” she continues, her eyes finding yours. “Everything that went down between us. About our relationship. But…” her voice trails off, and then she seems to have found her voice again. “But do… do you think… do you think we would ever be back together?”
Your hand moves from the table to her hand, taking it into yours. The gesture is so natural you don't even notice it until you see the way her fingers wrap around yours.
You run your thumb over her knuckles, her hand fitting in yours like it always did and always will. “I think... if you both talk things out... and if you're both willing to try again…”
She brings your hands to her mouth, placing kisses on your knuckles, on the bumps of your skin, on the veins that run beneath. She looks back up at you, her eyes searching for something in your face. Whatever she was looking for, she finds it and smiles.
“Are you willing to try again?”
You don't reply.
What would it be like to be with her again? Despite everything, despite how things were, there were still moments you remember in a warm light.
The times you and she held hands and just walked down the street. The times you two would sit in a park and people, watch and joke about anyone that walked past.
The times you got stranded in the rain with her and had to share an umbrella, giggling as you squeezed together under it.
The times you two went on a road trip together and laughed and sang along to the radio the whole way.
The times you two spent a night at a hotel together, and neither one of you got any sleep.
The times she would laugh at a stupid joke or just do something adorable, and all the air of the room would just leave you and your voice would get caught in your throat.
The times you saw her in a t-shirt and shorts and no makeup, and she's still the most beautiful in the world.
The times you felt your heart leap when you saw her name pop up on your phone.
The times spent talking about the most boring things and the most boring things were suddenly the most interesting things in the world.
The times you went to the movies and she'd get bored and try to make out with you.
The times she fell asleep with her head on your shoulder, and you'd stay as still, not moving a muscle, and when she asked why you weren't moving, you said “Nothing,” but it was because you could feel her breathing against your neck, and it was so calming that you just wanted to stay like that forever.
The times the sun would hit her face and light up her features and her hair would be golden and the freckles on the bridge of her nose would stand out.
The times she would say something ridiculous like “Oh god, my back is killing me... it sure would be a shame if a beautiful and caring woman just, oh, I don't know, gave me a back massage,” and then look at you with complete innocence.
The times she went with you to meet your grandmother, who immediately took a liking to her and pulled you aside later on to tell you she's a keeper.
The times she would talk about her childhood, and you would listen, and you thought “I wish I could take your pain away.”
The times you stood in the kitchen and cooked together, and it was a mess of flour and batter and sugar and eggs everywhere because you two kept throwing things at each other and laughing and kissing and stealing sips of cookie batter.
The times you woke up next to her and she was looking at you and her eyes were still bleary and the only thought you could think of was “I love her even more than I did last night.”
The times she would get upset about the smallest thing and leave, only to come back hours later with tired eyes and a tight smile. The times you would try to comfort her and she would shrug you off and tell you she's fine, even when she's clearly not.
The times she'd play with your little sister, pretending to be a princess alongside her. The times she'd be a regal queen who let her little princess sit atop her throne. The times she'd be an evil witch who terrorized your little sister. The times she'd be an adventurer who'd save your little sister.
The times she'd look at you when she thought you didn't notice. The times she'd lie and say she wasn't staring at you.
The times she would come to your place unannounced, just to show you something that reminded her of you.
The times you would just exist. No need for words. No need for actions. Just both of you in the same space, comfortable.
There used to be so much love between you two.
The nicknames you had for each other. The inside jokes that no one else knew about. The looks you would give each other from across the room.
You knew the taste of her lips better than your own name. You knew where to kiss, to taste, to worship. Her moles, her scars, her tattoo, her hips, her waist, her neck, her shoulders, her wrist, and it would always lead back to her lips. “All roads lead to Rome,” they say, and Rome was her lips.
You'd trace every line and curve on her body with your tongue the way a blind man would read Braille. You worshipped her like the messiah. She was the promised land to your Moses, her body the Holy of Holies, parting her legs like the Red Sea as you knelt at her altar, and drown in her like an Israelite drinking from Marah.
Being with her was like sitting beside a fire on a cold night. It was cozy, and sometimes you would feel her hand on your back or her arm around your shoulders.
She had a habit of touching you, you could never keep yourself away from each other.
Even now, the way she holds your hand and kisses your hand, it reminds you of the days when all the two of you did was touch and kiss.
But that was then, and this is now.
Instead of spending every minute with each other, you're now sitting across from each other at an empty table in a quiet diner with the ghost of your past relationship hanging over your heads.
You remember the cold moments.
The times you two would fight, scream, yell, sometimes cry.
The times she was distant and cold. The times you wished you could just understand her thoughts.
The times you both would argue and shout at each other and afterwards lay in your bed and just stare at the empty space between the both of you.
The times she'd lock herself in the bathroom and you'd stand outside, your heart breaking with every word you heard her utter.
The times you would wake up in the middle of the night and see her on the edge of the bed, facing away from you, her body trembling, and every single time you would reach for her, and every single time she would pull away.
The times she'd hold you close and you'd hug her back and you'd feel her body shake from stifled sobs, and you would tell her it was okay, even though you didn't know if you were trying to make it okay for her or yourself because nothing was okay.
The times you felt so lost and alone and you just wanted her to hold you, tell you you were going to be fine, but instead she'd give you a blank look and just stare at you, unable to understand how you were feeling because how could she when she was so disconnected from herself and the world around her?
The times you wondered if she still loved you as much as you loved her, because even when you thought she didn't, she would catch you off guard and surprise you with a joke or a smile or a laugh or just the way she'd take your breath away with the simplest things, and you'd feel her love in those little moments and you'd cherish them because those moments were fleeting.
You'd hang onto them desperately, hoping to preserve them, hoping to relive them in your mind over and over because you wanted to feel her love again.
But the feeling would fade so fast, because soon enough she'd be in those moods again, and you'd feel yourself slipping from her grasp more and more every day, and you just wanted to hold on in vain, hold on and hope it will get better, it had to get better, it would get better.
And for the first time in your life, you were tired.
Not of her, not ever of her. You never get tired of her, you never want to be without her. But at that moment, you were tired.
You were tired of trying to understand her, tired of trying to make everything okay, tired of feeling like your love for her wasn't reciprocated.
Just tired.
You never wanted to break up with her. You never wanted to leave her. You just wanted everything to stop. You just wanted a pause.
She was tired too, maybe more tired than you.
When you said, “I'm tired,” she took it personally. She thought you were tired of her, you were tired of the relationship, and you were tired of being with her.
So she left. She broke up with you.
You never expected her to do that.
You never expected her to walk away from you, just like that.
You thought that she would understand, you thought that she would know what you meant when you said you were tired. You thought she would know that you were tired of being the only one trying to make things work, tired of feeling like you're the only one who cares, tired of feeling like the only one who's making sacrifices.
She didn’t hear the words you were actually saying, the words, “I need a break, just a short break.”
She heard different words, words that said, “I'm done, I don't want to do this anymore.”
And she responded accordingly.
She ended things before you could end them on your own terms.
She broke up with you all because you said the wrong words and she heard the wrong words.
But the past is the past, and you can't stay there forever. Right now, you're here with her.
You feel her hand squeeze yours, and you look up to meet her eyes.
They're the same eyes you lost yourself in so many times before, the same eyes that used to be filled with love, affection, passion, and desire. All of a sudden, the past is so close. The feeling comes rushing back, and you can't let it go.
You realize that your boss was right. Something is still there. Something that hasn't faded away.
Was or is, it's still there.
Are you willing to try again?
You know it wouldn't be easy. You still remember every painful, difficult moment of your relationship. You still remember every stupid fight, every misunderstanding, every mistake, and every argument.
But those warm moments that bring up an ache in your chest when you remember them, they were real. You know they were real.
Maybe this time, it will work out. Maybe this time, both of you will learn from your mistakes. Maybe this time, you'll make a better effort to understand her. Maybe this time, you'll try harder to listen to her and make sure she understands that you don't mean anything differently than what you're saying.
Maybe this time, everything will be different.
It will be different.
Maybe if things work out, you won't lose her a second time.
Just maybe… you can get things right this time.
It took you both long enough to realize that neither of you really wanted it to end, right? and now here you are, with her, and she's looking at you with those same beautiful eyes, and-
Maybe this time, things can change for the better.
You squeeze her hand back, and it's an answer without saying anything.
She sees it, and she smiles. She turns your hand and brings it again to her lips, pressing a kiss on your palm.
This time, she doesn't let your hand go.
You don't let go of her hand either.
