went to a different park today!
(i’d been working on my scientific report for 4 hours so i forced my sister to come with me)
there were a lot of feral pigeons (Columba livia) and some people were feeding them out of their hands
there were also quite a few moorhens (Gallinula chloropus) and coots (Fulica atra)
i also saw some ducks that i didn’t recognise, i managed to find out that the white one is a crested (Anas platyrhynchos domesticus) which are a breed of domestic duck, and i’ve emailed my lecturer to help figure out what the other one is but i suspect it’s a mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) with a gene mutation
speaking of mallards we saw mallard ducklings which were so cute! and they were incredibly fast swimmers too, and there were 10 in total.
finally i saw a nuthatch (Sitta europaea) in a tree which was exciting because it was the first time i’d seen one in person!

3/2/23-Home and Lakeside
It was great to see the exciting emerald flashes of Green Woodpeckers flying at Lakeside at lunch time again. I also enjoyed seeing a fairly mobile handful of Greylag Geese by beach lake and walking across the path, I watched them for a few minutes when a couple of them were in the water as they bathed and splashed. How lovely to watch the clear water trickle down their back feathers. A fascinating scene which I enjoyed photographing, the fifth and sixth pictures in this photoset among some I took. Them being around in these slightly increased numbers to sightings of a single bird/single birds I’ve got over the winter makes me look fondly forward to the nesting days where bigger numbers of them will be a constant here. Also of note in the way of increased numbers were a fair few Tufted Ducks being around on Concorde lake this lunch time, with a particularly big gang of males about five or six which was great to see the eighth picture in this photoset shows some of them. I really enjoyed splendid views of Moorhens at Lakeside at lunch time a species I’m on a good run for here getting some photos which I tweeted on Dans_Pictures tonight. Mallards, a dashing couple of Carrion Crows on fence posts the seventh picture in this photoset shows one, Magpies seen flying over nicely, Great Tit seen and heard well at Lakeside again and female Blackbird seen and heard in the garden were other bird highlights today. It was good to see a spider the other side of the window tonight possibly Silver-sided Sector spider.
Plant wise it was good to see red deadnettle in flower rapidly increasing in a certain patch across the road a very pretty sight to see, with daisy seen on the green out the front on my lunch time walk, catkins looking great and seed heads enjoyed I believe fleabane. I really liked seeing a fresh orange flower on the balcony and the lavender in the front garden as shown in the first picture in this photoset. At Lakeside in the southern fenced off area I paused to admire lichen covering thin tree branches and a bit of moss, the lichen both the usual light green and red which I’d not seen before I took the fourth picture in this photoset of some of this, always great to see.
There were interesting intricate grey cloud formations today with sun, creamy light and blue sky in places too creating great scenes with a nice hint of red in a memorable formation of clouds out the back this evening. It was good to see the nearly full moon shining brightly through the clouds shuffling across tonight, a captivating sight. I took the second and ninth pictures in this photoset of sky dominated scenes at Lakeside today, tenth and final picture in this set of the sky this evening and third picture in this photoset of a view at Lakeside at lunch time.
Wildlife Sightings Summary: Green Woodpecker, Magpie, Jackdaw, Carrion Crow, Woodpigeon seen nicely at home, possible Collared Dove, Blackbird, Starling, Robin, Great Tit, Mallard, Tufted Duck, Greylag Goose, Coot, Moorhen, Black-headed Gull, spiders including possibly Silver-sided Sector spider and Noble False Widow and Varied Carpet beetle. I heard House Sparrows in the bushes by the entrance at Lakeside.

Wasn`t a fan of tusks for mudwings until I drew them myself lol. I think it would work out well as a royal family trait (like the patterns seawings have)
