A/N: Day 22 for @sapphic-september

The door lock clicks behind them and Cynthia is the first to reach it, hammering desperately at the door, clearly angry and panicked even as Nina watches. This, this meeting, had been supposed to be three. Cynthia representing the musicians of the orchestra, Gloria trying to help the agreements take place and Nina, finally, officially released from the process. “Gloria… please…” Cynthia is near sobbing, still hammering the door until she breaks away, a wrist clenched in a shaking hand. “Fuck…” “It still hurts?” Nina’s voice is low, careful, even as she moves closer. A roof in the moonlight is not the best place to inspect the woman’s wrist but she can feel Cynthia stiffen as she moves closer still, her voice dropping. “Cynthia…” “No.” Cynthia steps back, slamming into a wall and letting out a near whine of panic, Nina’s touch soft as she finally corners her, tucking soft brunette hair from Cynthia’s eyes and moving to slowly, tenderly, take Cynthia’s hands, feeling the wrist flex even as Cynthia yelps, her grip quick to adjust to support it, her lips brushing the woman’s wrist tenderly. “You were that… afraid of me?” “No… Yes. I….” Cynthia’s sigh is crisp in the cool air and Nina hates the look in Cynthia’s eyes. Scared, hurting. She did that, she knows she did. “You broke my heart. If you must know.” Cynthia pulls away then, barely hiding the sob she attempts to swallow, Nina moving closer again when she stills. “How?” “I got us a deal… we had… we made progress…” Nina sighs softly, moving to stroke Cynthia’s cheek when she next looks at her, letting their lips meet softly. “Then I could not be more stupid. Hurting someone as… as free, as loving, as you… what an idiot.” “Mmm…” Cynthia’s hummed agreement is answered with a whispered ‘Shit…’ , Nina pulling her lower lip between her teeth. “Is it too late to… fix this?” “The deal is off the table…” Cynthia shrugs and Nina barely bites back her laugh. “Fuck the fucking deal… I meant us. Can we… start over? Get this deal back and… and try again?” “It’s… complicated…” The moonlight highlights Cynthia’s slim frame even as she moves to the rooftop bed, settling there and beckoning Nina to join her. “Let’s see if we can’t uncomplicate it…” Gloria comes to them later, Cynthia quick to pull her into the bed between them. “The complication…” She explains with a small smile, Nina’s grin quick, almost cunning. “Then allow me to uncomplicate it…” Her hand slips into copper curls, pulling Gloria closer and letting their lips meet even as Gloria shivers, a hand reaching back to find Cynthia, the woman’s smile soft as she kisses Gloria’s fingers. “Well then… shall we make a deal?”
