Pod Locations

I'm writing a mermaid history using H2O lore for my own amusement, here's the locations of where /I/ think all the worlds' pods would be.

Explanations below

For the canon pods, I just guessed based off of canon statements made about the pods. Mako is obviously in the Coral Sea. The actress who plays Mimmi is Canadian so I figured that's where the Northern Pod would be. Eastern Pod is obviously in the East China sea. THe South Pacific is more of a guess.

I gave the names just by which bodies of water they surround, I'm gonna change most of them because I think the pods wouldn't name themselves after human affairs and most would have names like the Mako pod, centered around their moon pool. I followed the idea that mermaids would congregate around moon pools, therefore not being deep water mammals and staying relatively close to land.

I also have headcanons about which mods have conflict with each other -- the Mako pod is more allied with the South Pacific pod than they would be the Tasman pod, the Northern Pod has beef with the Greenland and Ellesmere pods, etc.

I also like the idea of playing around with warm water/cold water pods. We know the Mako pod gets snow fever while the Northern pod like Mimmi doesn't, but what are the reverse effects? Did Mimmi have to gradually adapt while swimming from Canada to Australia? Does the Arctic Pod have more cold resistance than the Northern? How does this isolate different pods from the grand "United Nations" vibe the show implied all Pods' councils have?

please I need to know WHAT is the psychickers h2o mermaids au please tell me I've been thinking about it all day the autism in my mind has consumed me and all I can think about is psychickers h2o mermaids au

OKOK SO I DONT HAVE IT WRITTEN DOWN ANYWHERE BUT I GOT IDEAS !!

Basically in h2o there's three mermaids at first (Rikki, Cleo, and Emma) and yk three mermaids and there's three psychics. So it's not like an incredibly accurate substitution for the characters but just a general substitution. Like the psychic kids aren't taking the place of one singular character just of a mermaid if that makes sense. So saiki and Miko and Tori are mermaids. And like how in h2o there was a normal guy who wasn't a mermaid but helped them when they needed it, we got Akechi as the normal non mermaid guy (bc he's not a psychic in saiki k).

As for their powers I'm still deciding but for right now I'm leaning more towards Tori having that mist evaporation power Rikki has and then Miko having the moving water thing cleos got going on? And then idk if I should have saiki get the freezing water power or if he should have all of them like Charlotte did? And idek who's be Bella or Charlotte in this au I haven't thought that far ahead Idek who Zane would be. He's giving saiki vibes but the relationship Rikki and Zane had is more of an aren and metori relationship and doesn't really work with any of the psychickers or any other character. And since Charlotte was sorta cleos rival and liked lewis then if I wanted someone to fill her role it'd be extra super tough bc who tf would like Akechi? (Besides the psychickers) The closest to Charlotte to me would be Teruhashi (bc why wouldn't the perf pretty girl have all the powers and be special and a mermaid etc) and maybe she'd be trying to get saikis attention instead of Akechi's but idk if I should really make teru a villain hmmm

As for the story I don't think I'd follow the plot of h2o besides some things like the plots Abt the full moon and how they turn in that magic pool of water and maybe their work place. Id def change their backgrounds a lil (both different from the show and the anime). So Idk if Tori would still be a monk here or not, it depends on whether I want them to just live by the beach in Japan or westernize them. Tho I think him being a monk and having to juggle his monk duties with being a mermaid would be interesting. But I was thinking of making Tori a surfer or like lifeguard for summer bc I thought that'd be incredibly interesting. Like he'd have to decide to still be a surfer or a lifeguard or to stop being a mermaid.

Of course I don't really wanna change their personalities tho putting them in a diff setting and stuff makes things a lil difficult bc without the settings and conditions they grew up in they might've turned out different. Aka maybe if he didn't have to hug ppl and didn't grow up as a monk Tori might've not turned out a perv, or without her powers and stuff Miko wouldn't dress or speak like a gyaru, and without his powers saiki wouldn't be so angsty and sad. Also idk if I want them to be friends before they turn mermaids or the fact that they all turn mermaids by accident together forces them to become friends reluctantly. I like the latter tho. Them all sorta hating or disliking each other (which is kinda how the three girls were in the show at the beginning I think) would be fun.

Though if miko didn't have her lil fortune telling business I think she'd maybe have a different business that involves the beach somehow? Though again it would be fun if she still grew up being interested in fortune telling and astrology stuff. And as for saiki I think he'd still be pretty quiet and introverted even without his powers yet somehow still easily make friends like nendou and kaidou. Though I think Akechi still staying his childhood friend after all this time would be the only thing that changes for saikis relationships. He never moved away so they stayed best friends.

And akechi gets two more friends out of it when he notices his best friend acting weird and all of a sudden he's hanging out with these two monkeys he's never seen before and he gets suspicious and follows them and sees one of them turn into a mermaid and he gasps and wants to study them etc etc. Also instead of cleos sister kusuke would be the annoying sibling, still older sibling and he'd find out Abt saikis secret too eventually, a long with the other twos secret.

Now what I can't really decide is if there should be any ships or not especially between the psychickers. Idk if I want a big polycule or mikotori or torisai or torikechi. I still need to iron out a lot of details as u can see but ty for the ask! <333

H2O AU Sam anon: love everything you came up with~ but may I raise you, instead of lake Michigan, the canon Lake Eerie in Amity Park? With a name like that I would ABSOLUTELY believe a mermaid transformation on a full moon can happen. There's even a secret cavern behind a waterfall where a weird magical pool could possibly be hidden. Also I love the idea of her being a different TYPE of mermaid than saltwater mermaids. Like H2O mermaids all have orange tails (and like, that one dude who has a green tail for some reason?), if you really wanted to you could decide freshwater mermaids all have, like, black or purple or blue tails or something to soften the aesthetic for Sam to be slightly more tolerable lol (she would HATE an orange tail haha).

The hair growing thing is probably canon actually, I think in H2O:MA no matter what hairdo they have, when they turn into a mermaid their hair becomes all long and pretty? but it goes back to normal when they turn back to human so like... Sam might be mad about it if it were permanent, maybe let her have a bit of reprieve and not make it permanent lol (I mean, Danny's and Tucker's changes aren't permanent y'know?). Tucker growing big in his other form as a parallel to Sam growing small is great, and the "purify water" power makes her unique from the canon H2O mermaids :D Also the mermaid ghost zone bit, that sounds fun, as well as fishing out shenanigans. I'm just imagining she's mad about having to use straws to drink anything for fear of getting wet, because using straws is bad for the environment (she quickly gets a reusable metal one she can use anywhere she needs it. it's a Fenton Straw and it doubles as a hair stick and a weapon I guess because that's just how stuff goes in DP when they need something normal and the Fentons get inspired and make it a weapon instead XD).

I don't think she necessarily needs to be a princess (also I'm not understanding how exactly other than "you're the chosen one"?) since by virtue of her already activist personality she'd probably take on all those responsibilities anyway, just because it's the right thing to do. I can see her BECOMING a princess by doing all this though (along with unlocking more powers along the way and becoming OP in her own right), not really doing that from the start tho (could be a plotline to take for sure! similar to how Danny doesn't start out as king!).

Anyway loving the Valerie and Jazz bits too!! Full set go :D though they also need a transformy aspect to really complete the set lol. Jazz transforming into something with wings and pointy ears sounds cool tho! So now we've got dimension/space, land, sea, sky, and manmade creatures (Danny, Tucker, Sam, Jazz, Val respectively). There's a lot of faerie stuff out there if you wanna continue the route of basing this stuff on existing media (like Teen Wolf and H2O)... the only fae things that come to mind right now are Winx and W.I.T.C.H? Though I don't know much about them.

yooooo. erie works so much better and it would move what stat they're in but i don't care. it fits. i'd also like to note that all the lakes have different mer cultures and vibes. for instance lake superior is the biggest and deepest and has a lot of ship wrecks. erie on the other hand is the smallest and shallowest and has the greatest water flow. it also has issues with pollution and over fishing so it likely has the smallest population of mers and the smallest sized mers in general. they have a hard time with hiding and maintaining a population so they stake a lot of hope on sam and her abilities. there's also a lake monster named bessie in erie that's going to be a friend. the lakes are all attached to each other and have access to a lot of rivers so there's room for travel.

i'm tempted to make sam's tail pink just because she would hate it, but morphology wise it would make more sense if it was a brownish-green, similar to the fish in the area/ the mud on the lake floor. true greens are also an option. my main thing is that these mermaids would be concerned with blending in so they'd want to have camouflage. i'm also now tempted so say all mermaids have a full fish form for camouflage. tucker is going to mock her for this like being a glorified pooch is so much better

i'm down with it being a mer form only thing. she'd still be annoyed because she finds the length inconvenient but at least she can control how she looks on land. it also just occured to me that she needs to invest in water proof make up and the first few times she transformed without it were messy. she played the dripping off as an intentional look. but that 'intentional look' stopped happening within a couple of days.

she'd immediately switch to a reusable metal straw though i'm hesitant to have it double as a hair chop stick purely because that's gross to me and would lead to getting your hair and it's oils in your drink. she could probably have it as a different accessory though.

my mind also made a jump to paulina trying to be mean and 'accidentally' dump her drink on sam and danny and tucker having to step in and take the splash to protect her secret. i think it's safe to say that they'll all end up doing embarrassing things to protect each other secrets. they're loyal like that.

that's fair and the nature of plot development. sam accidentally earning the princess title is better than her just randomly getting handed it by pure chance. it would be nice to see her earn the eerie mer's loyalty and admiration. though she'd still be considered weird as hell due to her company.

and finally i don't know much about winx or w.i.t.c.h. either. it kinda missed me. i'm more inclined to lean into the existing lore for fairies. though it is extensive and often contradictory. how jazz will look depends on what kind of fairy she is. i saw a comment talk about how she might accidentally trick a fairy into giving her their name, when they were trying to steal hers. i wouldn't mind there being an ongoing plot where because she stole that fairy's name and therefore their power, the former fairy is following her around trying to get their name back and cause mischeif for her. only to find they've bitten of more than they can chew because jazz's life is chaos and the fairy isn't the weirdest thing to happen in her day. she probably ends up quite affectionate towards the fairy as she goes about learning how to use their powers. the pranks can become pretty mean spirited. but danny is a lot less nice and willing to threaten them to protect his sister. it's a whole thing. the fairy is very tsundere next to jazz's happy optimism. it should be noted that jazz did try to give the name back, but gifting names is different the stealing names. if anything she just ended up having more power over the fairy. which they aren't happy about. it's a mess. but eventually they reluctantly come to love jazz and her weirdo family. - Hestia

I've been rereading some of my Bl3 h2o au and actually I missed it sm lol bbbbbbbbbbb info dump incoming

It's wild bc some parts come across as awkward to me now after about 2-3 years... To me this fic is very recent so to think I've improved enough to recognize flaws in such a short amount of time... Wha!!

Also Junpai-7 arc my beloved. That's all. I love this arc. Twin sun planet that hates the moon and has sun festivals with Digby Vermouth to celebrate longer days. Custom made RGB Guardian OC that designed mermaids and furthers 'Eridian experimentation' lore and she eventually teams up with the Crimson Raiders after talking to Tannis. The fact that I accidentally called Guardian possession as a lore mechanic because I wanted a way to fit being moonstruck into my silly au. There are pirates and vampires and double-crossing mermen and an Eridian Compass that points the owner to an underwater Vault that becomes a huge whirlpool with a giant sea monster inside. This arc is SO self-indulgent and I love it so much.

Also when ur reading the Pandora 'main story' stuff u can see where I decided the Crimson Raiders' new base on Pandora was going to be Roland's Rest while they build Sanc-III during the main story because it abruptly cuts back to it in the middle of an arc LOL (and also where I decided there was a Pandoran moon pool in the Salt Flats instead of a lineage factor to this one... Because moon pools... I wanted to fit one into the main story to have a basis for the 'revisiting junpai-7 with the Crimson Raiders' arc OK shhh)

And I forgot I killed off Emma and Nino and actually my heart broke when they died bc I was like 'Awww I missed the Black Ops Squad' AND THEN THEY WERE DEAD hhggghhh but This arc also has all the Obsidian Block lore with all the characters being named after H2O villains (Greg, Sophie, Dr. Denman, Will...) and ALSO explains some Eridian lore and I think is also the first time I refer to moonstone from tps as its 'scientific' name which is Cythium-3 :) AND this is where Barnabas betrays Zane after joining the Black Ops Squad and starts their whole thing. Very back-and-forth with the vibes overall... Also lowkey can't wait to see what the actual lore explanation is for the triangle jackets because I will be permanently ignoring that in favor of my Black Ops Squad designs thank you (the jackets were bc they were all part of the Dahl Black Ops outfit on Pandora (referencing that ECHO Captain has about Zane) before they were abandoned, but they were nice af jackets so they kept them and replaced the Dahl logo with the triangle design)

Also also there are SO MANY references to stuff that isn't just H2O... In the junpai-7 arc the Rogues (Clay and the gang) are in the process of smuggling the Eridian Compass to a place called Mariejois when Zane shows up to steal it for the pirate queen Cutlord Karuu bc I love One Piece and it's Pirates okay. Also Zane drinks and enjoys Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters, in which he compares the headache after getting moon-driver-struck to getting his brain smashed in with a brick without the lemon.

Also oh my god Zoomer is baby I'm so sorry I forgot about you 🥺 he's so small and beeps so much... He's just doing his best... Yeah he will shoot you but he's trying his best okay don't judge him... Blane (stands for Blue Zane) on the other hand is a total dick and messes with Zane at every opportunity and I think that's beautiful. He's only like that because tediore accidentally switched out the personality cores for the clone so he's the exact opposite of Zane

Maybe it's just me:

As a writer who is firmly on Charlotte's side of things when it comes to H2O, I find that in any story (canon/canon divergent/AU), Charlotte's character could be used as an avatar to bring to life relationships with other characters.

What do I mean? The H2O gang? Cleo, Emma, Rikki? Let's accept the idea that they would have never opened up to her no matter what. And Charlotte has to pay for that by being the villain in their story and Cleo's nemesis. But because of canon, we never know what would happen or the influence she'd have if she was a part of someone else's story.

Bella Hartley: As someone who's written countless posts about character building her, I have a good balance on what she's like with canon and how to build her with headcanons. The sweet, bubbly, sensitive side of her is something I always keep in character, but I counter that will allowing her to be angry (ranging from subtle to actual yelling), acknowledging being wronged and taking a stand, and utilizing her work traveling experiences. Charlotte being in her life would have brought out these headcanons because she's the adventurous type and is brave enough to address the elephant in the room when it comes down to it.

Kim Sertori: The "annoying, bratty little sister" that everyone and their mother hate (especially on Tumblr). Since very few bother with utilizing her character in a good light, that leads to a lot of antagonistic vibes in fanfics. And that's as a human. Putting her in a mermaid tail is a whole other story. I'd go as far as to say many would believe she'd make a horrible mermaid and get herself revealed sooner than later (regardless if Cleo's involved or not). And this is why, to be honest, if this young, part-time mermaid needed a mentor - It would be Charlotte. She's fell off the wagon, paid the price for her actions. If anything, she learned more about herself and realized her wrongdoings (unlike the group in S2 ending). If anyone could wrangle and get through to Kim without bias - It would be Charlotte.

Miriam Kent: I have played with Charlotte and Miriam's relationship enough times to grasp how I could approach it. They would likely contrast, not as fire and ice would like Emma and Rikki, but in terms of home life and personalities. However, I do see Charlotte wearing Miriam down: Calling her "Mira", getting her to enjoy being a mermaid, not being stick up. Balancing and bringing out the normal girl no one sees (except maybe Tiffany).

Sophie Benjamin: In theory, most would assume Sophie and Charlotte would be arch-nemesis. Charlotte, for all her faults, loved being a mermaid and that would extend towards the Moon Pool and Mako Island itself, whereas Sophie, for her greed, destroyed the moon pool and made it inactive. However, similar to ⬆ with Kim, I believe Charlotte could get through to Sophie. She'd ask the big questions like why she's obsessed with Will's freediving career and her obsession with money. With time, she'd likely get Sophie to chill and form hobbies outside of Will to find herself.

With that being said: I think Charlotte would have been able to do some work, regardless of whether she arrived earlier or later in the show.

took the longest of the three girls to figure out what her power is, which at the time, was hydro-thermokinesis, but she later developed the power of pyrokinesis too

formed a very close bond with cleo and emma, and eventually bella, as well. also formed a close bond with zane, and although she would probably deny it, she also cares a lot about lewis, too
