Usually I loved these fantasy type dramas but for some reason something was missing for me with this one. Still enjoyed it, but not the ‘oh my god can’t wait for the next episode’ type, just meh. I loved the storyline, it’s a great plot, but the writing, editing and unfortunately for me, the lack of chemistry between the main leads just gave it an overall ho hum of a series. Probably would have done better with a 10 episode series too.

Fandom Year in Review (2024)

It's the very last day of 2024, so it's time for my annual look back at my year in fandom - and specifically on AO3! And some stats, of course. ;)

(Then I'll get back to writing before the new year!)

I posted 86 new stories to AO3 this year!

Fewer than last year, but I did also keep busy with some non-fandom, non-AO3 writings! (About 75 completed fiction pieces and 5 nonfiction ones, if one wondered.)

Those stories were in 26 fandoms! 11 of those fandoms were new for me to write for - and 5 of them I was the one to start the fandom tag on AO3!

Those stories included 37 romantic ships, 17 of which were new! (Gen relationships are also included in my overall stats below, of course.)

I posted a total of 158,158 words to AO3 this year!

This was also my first year participating in @gywo, so I can also say my words written this year - though not quite finished for the year (I'll get back to writing after making this post) will exceed 550k!

Noah, my friend, I am SO HAPPY you asked. I have no self control whatsoever so I will be answering this with a thoroughness nobody wants or needs. (also I will answer this question over and over for many reasons: 2 being that A- my tastes/favorites change on a damn-near hourly basis and C- I love dramas so much that I'll always be willing to talk about them!)

Side note: If you take a look at my Whump List Library, you'll see that links are highlighted in purple if it's a favorite (or one I simply really liked) It's safe to assume I recommend all of them but I'll go ahead and list my best of the best!

PLEASE NOTE: If you don't use any of the streaming services these dramas are on, I suggest DramaCool and KissAsian. There are other free services you can use but these two tend to work best for people.

UNDER THE CUT

Vigilante (MDL) - This is by far my favorite drama right now. Like- above all of the other ones that have ever existed. (That's saying something believe me) I'm not exaggerating when I say I watch it every single day. Every single day. I'm mak,ing a whump list for this one and I may have fanfics in progress.

Synopsis: After Kim Ji Yong (pictured above on both sides) witnesses his mother's brutal murder and her attacker's light prison sentence, he begins living two entirely different lives as an adult. On weekdays, he's a model student at the police university (left). During the weekends, he punishes criminals who'd received light sentences and continue to commit criminal acts with the name Vigilante (right). (MDL)

Fuujinshi (MDL) (Whump List) - If I had to choose a favorite Japanese drama, Fuujinshi would be my pick. Like, it's not even close. By a long shot. This drama was recommended to me to make a whump list for and I remain eternally grateful. This is one I rewatch a lot.

Synopsis: Osagami Kakeru is a blade master who is tasked with the mission of sealing the ''blades of filth'' called Kegareyaiba. These blades are born from the dark sides of people's hearts and make those corrupted by that filth murderers. However, with every blade sealed, the filth also affects Kakeru... (MDL)

Healer (MDL) (Whump List) - This is another one of my favorites! It was actually my favorite Korean drama before Vigilante came around. They're definitely similar but I will say that Healer is not nearly as dark as Vigilante. They do, however share some cast members!

Synopsis: Seo Jung Hoo is a special kind of night courier, known only as "Healer" by his clients. For the right price and with the help of a genius hacker, he gets his clients whatever they want, as long as it doesn't involve murder. His latest job leads him to a second-rate tabloid writer, Chae Young Shin, and the successful reporter, Kim Moon Ho. He begins to uncover the mystery of his own shared past with the two reporters, thus putting them all in danger. Can this errand-boy-turned-vigilante save everyone? (MDL)

Duel (MDL) (Whump List) - Another big favorite of mine! This drama has almost every trope you can think of, it's wild. This one has been one I've suggested to people since day one. If Duel has no more fans it's because I'm dead.

Synopsis: Jang Deuk Cheon, a hardened detective cop whose daughter is kidnapped, begins a chase against great odds to solve the mystery of his situation and find his child before it is too late. He starts to hunt down the suspect using the one clue he has: Two men with the same face were at the crime scene.

The Untamed (MDL) (Whump List) - If you know me at all, you know how much I absolutely ADORE this drama. It's my favorite Chinese drama ever and yes, it's another drama I watch over again a lot.

Synopsis: Wei Wu Xian and Lan Wang Ji, two talented disciples of respected clans, meet during cultivation training and accidentally discover a secret carefully hidden for many years. Taking on the legacy of their ancestors, they decide to rid the world of the ominous threat. But in a dramatic turn of events, Wei Wu Xian dies. Sixteen years later, Wei Wu Xian is brought back to life through a self-sacrificing ritual. He conceals himself behind a mask and assumes the identity of his summoner. Soon, Wei Wu Xian reunites with Lan Wang Ji and they start working together to solve the mysteries of the present and unravel the truth behind the events in the past. (MDL)

Fandom Year in Review (2023)

It's the very last day of 2023, which means it's time for my annual look back and some number-crunching with my AO3 stats and writing over the year!

(Before I get to setting next year's goals and back to writing before midnight, of course! ;))

I posted 142 new stories to AO3 this year!

Fewer than last year but still quite a respectable number (especially given I dropped off posting every single day after October this year - I kept it up for 1,675 days straight, or 55 complete months!).

Those stories were in 33 fandoms, 14 of them new, and featured 43 ships (not counting gen relationships), 18 of them new!

. . .and there's my look back on 2023! I explored new things and fell (unexpectedly deeply, perhaps) into some beloved old ones, tried to curtail my impulses on driving too hard on events while still participating and having fun. . .

Of course as always I have many things in the works (a moon-cycle-related project for all of 2024, my upcoming 7th year of doing my Valentine's Spectacular, a dark and twisty longfic. . .) and I'll be back soon! Maybe even with a new story tomorrow? We'll see!

WARNING: slight spoiler for The Glory

NGL I genuinely assumed that they were going to make Jeon Jae Joon, from the The Glory, the male lead or one of the love interests. Since he was a bystander to the brutal bullying of Moon Dong Eun and was not seen participating physically in it (which is just as bad).

I thought they were going to make his character similar to Rui Hanazawa/Yoon Ji-Hoo from Hana Yori Dango/Boys over Flowers. Someone who was friends with bullies but didn't do much to stop it. I'm glad they didn't go through this route. I never liked the idea of it.

In the first episode, it looked like he might have felt guilty or sympathetic towards Moon Dong Eun while she was being tortured in the assembly hall. But nope, I was wrong. This man didn't give a crap at what his friends were doing and might have found the whole thing uninteresting and never his problem.

Like the man had the money and power to stop it, compared to other students, he just didn't. Like he wasn't going to lose anything from stopping it.

As the show progressed, it became clear that Jeon Jae Joon shared the same violent tendencies as his friends.

I'm currently on ep 6 so I don't how his character is going to evolve (or devolve) in the next two episodes and in Season 2.

Hopefully they criticise him for being a bystander. There could be a scene where Jeon Jae Joon is like: Why are you going after me?! I didn't do anything to you!

And Moon Dong Eun is like: You stood and watched while I screamed as they burned me. You're just as guilty as they are.

Maybe he did physically hurt her and we aren't shown it yet.

Maybe he is involved in the murder of the previous bullied victim (So-hee was it? Don't remember her name). We saw how violently he reacted when his classmate made fun of his colour-blindness.

So-hee might have angered him (NOT HER FAULT) resulting in him pushing to her death. But on second thoughts, there isn't any signs to show that he was involved in it and was probably Park Yeon Jin. Maybe he was and has gotten over it. He didn't feel any remorse for Dong Eun so why would he feel the same way for So-Hee. Probably just happy he got away with it.

This was supposed to be a much shorter post but I just rambled my thoughts. Sorry if it didn't make sense. Quite sleepy actually.

EDIT: finished the show. I was wrong, Jae Joon also tormented her. Should’ve watched the whole show before writing this. Oh well.

Cuando estas tres personas se encuentren, se embarcarán en una insólita travesía para descubrir qué sucedió años atrás mientras un grupo de amigos operaban una radio emisora pirata, e intentarán ayudar a la gente afectada por el evento.

Como sabrán algunos, Kill Me, Heal Me fue el dorama que me devolvió mi adicción por lo kdramas; así que naturalmente, cuando lo terminé, busqué kdramas similares para ver. Uno de los que encontré fue Healer; sin embargo, su sinopsis no me atrajo y al leerlo parecía que no era lo que buscaba. ¡Error! Ahora lo entiendo todo y definitivamente si te gustó el cambio de identidad en Kill Me, Heal Me, Healer te gustará.

Healer tiene de todo un poco, desde comedia y romance, hasta suspenso y acción. Nunca había visto ningún kdrama de Ji Chang Wook y no había entendido lo perfecto, talentoso y hermoso que es hasta ahora.

¡Sus expresiones faciales y su sonrisa lo son todo! 🤍

¡El personaje de Healer me robó el corazón completamente! Se ve muy lindo trabajando, se ve muy sexy luchando por la justicia y es aún más perfecto cuando se trata de defender a la chica que ama. La escena en la que le tapa los ojos a Youn Shin para que no vea la violencia, tocó mi corazón.

Vi 20 capítulos que absolutamente valieron la pena. Cada minuto, cada segundo de capa episodio fue usado sabiamente para contar esta atrapante historia. Mi única queja es que me hubiese gustado que ahondaran un poco más en la historia de los demás personajes como en el antiguo Healer, en ajumma, en la mama de Young Shin y en la novia de Kim Moon Ho.

Si eres un fan de Ji Chang Wook, probablemente ya viste este kdrama, pero ¿por qué no verlo otra vez? Y si no conoces a Ji Chang Wook, ¿qué esperas para verlo como Healer? Estoy segura que conquistará tu corazón.

Curiosidades:

En el episodio 4, minuto 24 Ji Chang Wook tenía un hickey haha, ¿por qué? Ni idea, maybe el maquillista no lo vio, who knows?

En el episodoio 11, la película que Healer y Young Shin estan viendo es Today's Love, la película protagonizada por nuestro hermoso Lee Seung Gi y Moon Chae Won.

Lo que a continuación escribiré es solo para descargar mis emociones respecto al episodio final porque ¿QUÉ RAYOS? SÍ ME ESPANTARON HORRIBLE, CREÍ POR UN MOMENTO QUE HABÍA MUERTO, NO PODÍA CREER QUE LOS ÚLTIMOS 7 MINUTOS TERMINARAN ASÍ.
