The Eighth Sense (Korea 2023 Viki - This isn’t in the KBL bubble, there’s sharp edges and lots of triggers. For a KBL the darkness of the content left me feeling unsettled but it's really damn good.

My Personal Weatherman AKA Taikan Yoho (Japan 2023 Gaga) - Basically: boys who fell in love in college end up living together but both are so repressed they actually don't realize they're in love. They're hot, young, in love, and total idiots.

I Feel You Linger in the Air (Thai 2023 grey or YT) - IFYLITA is an exquisite BL, elegant and classy… from Thailand which normally doesn't even try for classy. The main couple (both as a pair and individuals) were excellent, it gets hot more that explicit, but it does have sharp edges.

Tokyo in April is AKA Shigatsu no Tokyo wa (Japan 2023 Viki) - Two young men with a shared tragic past reunite and fall in love all over again, but the past will not stop hunting them. It’s Japan in full on soft focus which means it gets emo, abusive, and chewy. These two characters are giving parts of their souls away in a desperate attempt to shape themselves to the expectations they have of each other it's heavy and cutting.

Moonlight Chicken (Thai 2023) - I enjoyed this complicated little show, even though it’s spectacularly messy gay with lots of shrapnel and authentic pain. EarthMix turn in their most compelling performance to date.

Bed Friend (Thai 2023 IQIYI) - Office frienamies transition a flaming hot one night stand into a f-buddy relationship that is built on a puppy/cat dynamic (and kinks into it at one point). Our puppy is loyal, smitten, and protective with endlessly longing eyes, while our cat is snarky, prickly, and deeply damaged (ALL THE TRIGGERS). NetJames give lovely high-heat with excellent chemistry and tuned-in performances of surprising depth.

Big Dragon (Thai 2022 Gaga) - This is a decent execution of true enemies to lovers, these two spy on and bully each other, exploring darker themes and self worth issues. The way the leads transition between anger, resentment, titillation, and flirting (and the way, with kinksters, this can all be the same thing) is really well done. A pairing that proved itself to be a lot more sophisticated than I expected with excellent chemistry, but something went askew around plot, directing, and ending. Still if you're in it for the sexy, go to, they did.

My Beautiful Man AKA Utsukushii Kare (Japan 2021 Gaga - One of the most Japanese BLs to release in the last decade, as weird and as messed up as any 2000′s yaoi: emo af and hella warped, entirely true to itself with no attempt made to modify its POV for modern sensibilities or current BL fandom. It used seriously old school problematic and kinky tropes, like whipping boy, for a truly uncompromising piece that also manages to hit up themes of communication, consent, and self acceptance. It’s a wonderful BL but uniquely dirty and harsh, in the best possible way - Japanese cinema, uncompromising.

You can feel him smile against your skin and for some reason you felt warmer inside. He's hugging you so tight it's like he's about to crush your rib cage but it's fine with you as long as he continues what he's starting. He's hand roaming on your body, not stopping until he reaches your chest but never fully grabbing anything the way you want. 

You're feeling moody, stuck between the want to push him away to make him know that you're mad, and the need to feel him closer, his lips and hands all over your body. Then you finally turn around, looking at him straight in the eyes as his hand goes down way too close to your ass. You pulled him in by his collar so you could kiss him like you desperately wanted to. 

Your hand finally cradles his face, keeping him in place when he tries to move away. You don't want to, he started this now he had to see the consequences. You never wanted to stop, getting drunk at his sweet taste. But he still has more strength than you and it was really easy for him to pull away. He has a silly smile on his lips.

“We shouldn't let this happen here, don't you think?” His serious tone made you scoff and you rolled your eyes at him.

“Then you shouldn't have started anything.” With that, you start kissing him again.

Suo loves to rest on or in between your thighs when you hang out. It’s soft against his cheek and your hand always hangs in his hair, he really loves it. It feels like a dream. You never mind much, it’s just a habit now, but things get boring for him if he doesn’t test you a little from time to time.

He casually let go of the book that was resting in his hands without him really reading it and snuggled a little more into your thigh. You were sitting on the edge of your bed, reading on your phone and you were way too focused to look at him, which annoyed him a little. He wanted your attention, you to look at him to the point that you couldn’t think to look away. So he kissed your inner thigh lightly, as if a feather passed by it and you chuckled at the tickling feeling. Liking this reaction, he kissed you another time, and another until your hand grabbed his head slowly to push him, not able to take it anymore.

“Suo stop that,” you giggle lightly now petting his hair. He looked up at you, staring for a while and this time, you turned your gaze away to catch his eyes. He leaned into your hand a bit more, looking at you with sly eyes, already eating you alive and you had to look away in hope he won’t catch your red cheeks. He did, though.

“Do you mind it, Dear ?” he asked with a smirk, now stroking your thigh with his slim fingers, drawing invisible patterns until you can’t take it anymore. You roll your eyes at him before you leave your phone on the bed. Resting your weight on both your arms, you were now looking down at him, waiting for him to do or say something. But it never came, he just stayed like this, drawing and grabbing on your thigh a little before looking up at you again.

“What’s on your mind ?” you sighed and tilted your head, trying to fluster him but ended up gasping when he got up in one way and grabbed your face all of sudden.

“I don’t know, wanna make a guess ?” he answered rhetorically before kissing you deeply right from the start. He has to hold your back or you would’ve fallen on the bed, not that he doesn’t want it – maybe later. So you have one strong arm around your back and a hand holding your face, stroking your jaw kindly and you can’t help but grab his collar to bring him impossibly closer. He smiled in the kiss before breaking it, forming a saliva link between you two as he’s only a centimeter away.

“You want me so bad ?” You click your tongue at him before kissing him again and this time he lets you fall on your back, crawling above you. He leaves a few kisses on your lips, before slowly but surely making his way to your bare shoulder and biting in it. He hears you call his name in such a weak way, he wished you didn’t because now he never wanna stop. Your hand in his hair works magic on him and he’s dying to feel more of you. His hand goes below your shirt to caress the skin above your hip and god he wants to take it off.

He never stops eating the skin of your neck while his hand goes higher and higher and all you can do is gasp for air, pulling his hair when it hurts and he could get off just with that feeling. But he wanted so much more, if he could consume your whole body at that moment right now he would. He wants to keep you with him all the time.

But your mom thought otherwise as she knocked on your door before opening the door, informing you that dinner was ready. Suo was lying next to you, head staying on your shoulder as he told her that you were coming with a smile while you did your best to not die in embarrassment.

“Looks like we have to come back to it later,” he whispered in your ears before getting up.

Sakura doesn’t remember how he ended up like this. You two were enjoying some alone time at your place, laying on your bed, well merited after spending the day with his friends and Nirei asking you a thousand questions – since it was your first meeting. 

One second he was next to you, curled up on his phone, trying to follow the conversation in his group chat– unsuccessfully. And the next, he phone was laying a few centimeters away, still light up but now you were sitting on top of him. His cheeks heated up at the view and the feeling of your weight right there and he started to ask you what you were doing ; or to still try, because he couldn’t even align a word at the moment, making you giggle.

“Relax Haruka,” you said softly while bending over him, leaving a small kiss on the corner of his lips. He gulped hard, not knowing what to do in this situation but knowing damn well that he likes it. He wanted to pull you close, kiss you one more time, let his hand roam your body – could he do that ? He had no idea and his head went blank when you kissed him for real this time.

A small kiss at first, and another one, and you deepened it more next time and he could feel his body getting hotter and his mind numb. His hands landed on your waist, too shy to hold onto your hips yet getting drowned in that kiss enough to pull you right back into it when you tried to take a breath. You chuckle at how eager he was but it soon became a small squeal. With a swift movement of his, it was now your back on the mattress and him panting on top of you. You didn’t know where to lay your eyes, suddenly so shy and vulnerable.

He went in to kiss you again, a knee between your legs and oh how you liked that. You could touch him too, hold him, stroke your hands through his hair – pulling him closer until he couldn’t breathe. His soft hair being tangled up around your fingers made you go crazy, you never thought it could get worse until his lips got lost down near your neck. You have to bite your inner cheek to not moan at loud this time.

You waited for something more when he let go of your skin but instead you felt him laying in your chest, hiding in it and a laughter escaped your lips.

“What ?!” he grumbled with an offended look but you just shook your head, kissing the top of his head.

“Nothing. You’re just adorable.” 

You gasped as your back hit the wall, the coldness sending shivers all over your body. You hands laid on Kaji’s chest in a poor way to ground yourself after you two just ran out of the classroom. You’re trying to collect your thoughts, looking up at him with pleading eyes and a lack of understanding before he grab your face and kiss you forcefully. You know he’s to type to get work up easily but this ? This is new.

You let out of a muffled moan against his lips before pushing him away from you a little, just enough for his nose to touch yours but you can tell his narrowing his eyes at you.

“What’s up?” you find the courage to ask when he got closer, his lips barely brushing against yours. He sighs before his forehead rested on yours.

“You really get unwanted attention here. I hate it,” he explained in a whisper, now closing his eyes to escape your reaction. He’s thinking too much, he knows it but he can’t help but notice how everyone look at you. It makes him mad. Your lips touched his again, more sweetly than he was a second earlier – not that it’s difficult.

“I’m all yours, don’t get mad.” That’s all he needed to started kissing you again with you following him this time. His hands are rough on your skin, pulling you impossibly closer and fighting to touch your skin. Your body warm up in a second, drowning into the kiss as you pull him into you to move lace your arm around his neck.

Your hands slowly going up and down his white locks, ruffling it and tugging a bit every time he’s harsh with you, in hope he’ll be softer with your poor lips but it never happens. You do your best to keep quiet, trying not to forget that you two are barely hidden in that corner of a school full of boys ; but every single time his fingers cradle the soft skin of your stomach you swear you could loose your mind.

You’re suffocating in the kiss. Kaji’s so desperate it feels like he needs your lips like air, like he’s about to die if he stops – even if right now you were the one lacking of air. You have to fight your way to make him stop. Putting a finger on his lips to be sure he doesn’t go for another one, you’re both panting and you can feel your cheeks being so warmth, you’re almost ashamed of it.

Welcome back to my crack posting! =D

Warning: long post, and since I have like 60 screenshots, there will be a part two 😊😅

I wrote that intro before I'd watched the ep. Me as I was watching the ep was mostly incoherent screaming (so much so that my cat woke up from his nap to give me "what the hell, hooman" look).

This episode was amazing, and I loved it, and I'll probably die of too much fluff, but that won't happen before I finish watching We Are (which- WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE ARE JUST 5 EPS LEFT?!!).

I was giggling and kicking my feet (just like Peem the morning after that Prince Charming kiss) from the very first scene.

Oh, they are so gone for each other (and I am gone for them 😭). The smiles, the trying to hear what the other is doing just across the door ah

So, so true. As a writer that hits.

Also, I'm very glad they decided to showcase creative blocks, even if it was for a few minutes.

Jokes (and puns) aside, this scene is quite significant. Previously, whenever Phum was seen in the vicinity of the Fine Arts building, it was only because he wanted something from Peem (yes even that scene in ep. 8, he wanted company from Peem), but now, he's just sitting there waiting for Peem. And when Peem comes down, he's pinching his cheeks right there and acting cute with him and asking what's wrong.

And he keeps on asking, because he can see that Peem is a little moody, and not his usual self. "You're usually livelier than this."

Phum: "Actually, I want to be water too..."

Me: No way, is this what I think it is?

Phum: "I want to be the reason you feel good."

Me: yeah, yep, that's what I thought

No but, you can't tell me Phum doesn't binge watch BLs with his beloved teddy bear. Of course he has a whole arsenal of cheesy flirting lines.

All this time, it was always Phum telling Peem how comfortable he is around him and his friends, how fun it is.

Welp, it's Peem's turn.

I love Phum.

This is both him asking for consent as well as making sure they're on the same page and going at the same pace (which he always does, as I'd said before).

Hear how polite and soft Q is with Toey now? Once Q knew for sure that he's allowed to show affection towards Toey as more than just a mentor/mentee, he decided to be fluffy as heck and never went back (because his love language is giving and showing through actions).

This is such a valid fear.

He was afraid that his love would be too much, and in the process he'd lose the person he loves again, so he thought it better to just suffer alone than confess. Not gonna lie, my heart broke just a little here. (Also, because I'm currently rewatching MSP, I'll be pulling a lot of parallels, and this reminds me of that scene where Sound tells Gun that he's afraid to confess to Win because he's pretty sure he'll get rejected).

Oh, and I keep forgetting to say this, but Satang is such an amazing actor. Watching Sound and Toey, I almost can't believe they're played by the same person.

Let's be honest though, no one would be able to resist that smile, those eyes and that soft, "Na, krab". Oh yeah, he used polite pronouns here by the way.

I can't always notice the shift from formal to informal or vice versa because I'm not that well-versed in the language (yet) but this was pretty obvious.

Bonus (Peem's reaction):

This actually reminds me of when I was a wee baby (around 3 or 4 years old, I think) when I rescued a baby sparrow and took it to my dad and told my neigbours my dad would be able to heal it because he's a dcotor (he isn't a vet either) 😭

Also, we got the princess carry for Pride month! Twice if we count Chain lifting Pun in the waterfall, which I totally do.

We finally get being carried to bed but realizing they're laying on top of the blankets instead of just being magically wrapped in them by morning!

This pencil box is very very special to Q, and he's asking Toey to draw on it - something that is irriversible, as Toey himself says.

But this is Q's way of putting together both his loves. This pencil box was picked up by Toey the first time, but back then, Q only knew him as Milk Frappe Boy.

Now, he's asking Toey to do something Milk Frappe Boy would never have been able to (remember, Toey started taking an interest in art only after meeting Pencil Senior), because Pencil Senior disappeared on Milk Frappe Boy, but Q would never disappear on Toey.

The 8th Sense

(20 points to whoever knew that would be my pull out the gate)

One of the longest BLs Korea has given us (like Blueming) and it feels more atmospheric gay coming of age romance than strictly BL. It’s got a bit of an age gap, country boy/city boy, stellar acting, complex characters, and leads with great chemistry and tension. It’s a bit chewy and sticky and less perfect than most KBLs (do I detect a touch of Taiwan?) This one deployed BL tropes (messy eater, shoulder sleep, protective seme, there’s even some hyung-slinging) but front loaded them with painful backstory and then a ton of angst to drive the 2nd half. This isn’t in the KBL bubble, there’s sharp edges and lots of triggers. For a BL the darkness of the content left me feeling unsettled (which is the only reason it didn't get a perfect score) but it does have a glorious ending and that counts for a lot.

I think you'd really love this one.

Blueming

It’s a tiny bit dark and a tiny bit bittersweet, almost too honest to a university experience and first love (for BL), but if you want your mind ever-so-slightly messed with and your intimacy hellishly sweet, this BL will do it for you in a coldly distant manner, while bitch slapping you with self worth issues. I wasn’t into it at first, but the leads are solid and by ep 5 it got really good, becoming a narrative about self discovery meets understanding and accepting others people’s flaws without hurting them. Ultimately, we witnessed two characters maturing because of each other and their mutual affection, without that affection becoming the conflict point. Instead, tension was built around other aspects of identity, popularity, and self-worth. While production values were a touch lower than usual for Korea, Blueming included decent kisses and beyond plus a satisfying ending and come judicious and very elegant use of tropes. It is, in the end, simply a great BL.

Also Bleuming paved the road for 8th Sense and other gritty KBL to follow.

Love For Love's Sake

Isekai-based KBL is about a man who must win a game by convincing a reserved teen outcast to fall in love with him. Of course, that teen represents himself and his own unhappiness. Like many queer narratives, this show is actually about self worth, trust, and found family, and it is VERY on the nose. But I don’t expect subtlety from my BL and I enjoyed it's truly lovely redemption arc and earnest performances. I personally found the narrative a touch disjointed with overworked filming angles and poorer than average captions, but the consistency of tone, script, and immersion is beyond the norm for BL. You will drown in this show and like it that way. The leads have fantastic chemistry and it's ultimately highly rewatchable and utterly charming, which counts for a lot.

Unintentional Love Story

OMG the plot! Uke forced into a totally understandable betrayal, falling in love despite himself, put into a corner he can't get out of, the AGONY, the PAIN in those gorgeous eyes. Gah. Okay, so: A boy loses his job due to trumped-up corruption charges accidentally discovers his ex-boss's favorite artist, now a recluse. Evil manager offers him his job back, if he can convince the artist to rejoin society. Instead, they fall in love. I found the artist a bit stiff and reserved but Gongchan (maknae of B1A4) is a fucking GIFT - he carried this show (which I do not expect from the idol element). He was luminous with extraordinarily expressive eyes, just drown in the emoting abyss. The external conflict, social tension and pressure is complex and beautifully executed, plus Korea gave us legit side dishes (NOT a love triangle, hally-fucking-luya).

My Personal Weatherman AKA Taikan Yoho

You mentioned My Beautiful Man so if you're feel like that energy, grown up, watch this. It's a style of live action yaoi really only works from Japan. Basically: boys who fell in love in college end up living together but both are so repressed they actually don't realize they're in love. It's higher heat than we usually get from Japan's HEA stuff, and that part is also very well done, but it leaned into the "why don't they just talk for fuck's sake?" trope which is only exacerbated into undiluted frustration by the fact that they're already fucking. However, that's angst for Japan. And you like angst. Honestly? It's great, but watching requires more patience than usual, even for Japan.

My Ride

Thai BL grew up with this pulp (the first ever to make my end of year top 10). It’s a truly lovely and special little show featuring the extremely rare pairing of sunshine/sunshine (AKA a cinnamon roll couple) plus mature explorations of relationships using one of the softest, sweetest and most innocent friends to lovers vehicles. Kindly, overworked doctor meets broken-hearted motorcycle taxi driver in an “other side of the tracks” slow burn romance. The support cast is excellent, making for great friendship groups and family dynamics. With honest queer rep that adds to, but doesn’t impede, the story, and genuine conversation about the nature of class, wealth, and classism, not to mention communication, honesty, and respect for boundaries, you can’t go wrong with this show. In other news, I am a sucker for a single dimple.

It won't have the production values you're used to but it is a great show.

A Breeze of Love

Tsundere insomniac grump reunited with his sunshine jock ex (human sleeping pill) who now hates him. Basketball is also involved. While the simplicity of a reunion plot makes this more cohesive than most KBLs, it is a tad stiff and slow, never managing to lift itself out of "pretty, angsty, and pretty enjoyable." I liked it more than I thought I would, and think about it more too. 

Jazz for Two

This was basically what I wanted from Given and didn’t get. So I’m pleased. A solid enemies to lovers BL, where the sins of brothers' past haunts the present. Great optics, decent chemistry, and a tidy script even if tsundere characterization went a bit extreme in some cases.

Like In The Movies AKA Gaya Sa Pelikula

Karl, a student living alone, runs short of funds and ends up becoming housemates with Vald an out and proud chaos gay. This leads Karl into an identity crisis and journey of self discovery. This kind of forced proximity trope is really common in BL, but what Gaya does is handle it in a messy honestly queer way. It includes Vlad’s attitude in response to Karl’s shaken behavior and the frustration many out queers feel. For that alone it has to be applauded.

DNA Says Love You

DNA deserves extra marks for an upbeat approach to a queer story arc that other shows have systemically mishandled with sadness (in the guise of realism). There is a twist, which I found predictable, but knowing what would happen didn't spoil this show. The leads are luminous and engaging, and it’s full of queer found family representation and an unexpected amount of domesticity, plus it’s Taiwan, so the kisses are great. The first few eps are rough going but PLEASE have patience, it's worth it I promise! The second half is really special and life/love affirming - and the end is big-grin charming.

My Tooth Your Love

Earnest dentist hottie with sad eyes who worries too much is smitten by an adorable sunshine neurotic bar owner with serious anxiety issues. They fall madly in love while courting each other with food, plushies, and naps. Then, shocker, talk about their feelings and try to actually sort out their problems so they can have an adult relationship. Bonus crumbs = 18 year old poor little rich kid in mad crush with a much older man. I really enjoyed this show, it had a unique premise, killer dialogue, there was a solid lead pair with charming chemistry, soft flirtation, delightful smiling kisses, and stinkingly cute domesticity. All that said, I wasn’t wild about some of the darker themes it explored, even though it did a good job with them. And while the sides were adorable, they were underused. In the land of May/December, baby boy kabedon is my kryptonite! Why so little of it? (Kabedon is My Kryptonite = also the name of my indie band’s first single.)

The Eclipse

GMMTV does gay Blacklist with a good boy/bad boy pairing. This is a good show but the cast is excellent and the leads are absolutely flawless, which elevates it beyond just good. We got a nuanced and multifaceted burgeoning relationship: philosophical (and socio-political) conflict contrasted to moments of empathy; flirtation contrasted to moments of genuine affection, plus plenty of angst. This narrative is less about love than it is about courage and tenderness. However, near the end the pacing was off and the plot frustrating. Still, this is an enjoyable watch, with a finale that features verbal consent and a fun blooper reel.

Never Let Me Go

Bodyguard romance where poor boy must watch over rich boy for family obligation reasons. Simple premise well executed with a few bumps that made it feel like it was trying to tackle too much (when it wasn’t). Still, an enjoyable show that benefited from being handed to PondPhuwin who did a stellar job with their roles and chemistry. Of GMMTV handing out new series to established pairs in 2023 this is one of the most successful IMHO. It's typically Thai in that it's a bit bloated and has a confusing plot, but at least it HAD a plot and the central relationship is solid and loyal. The Our Skyy 2 follow up is great too. And very much adds to the cannon in a fun way rather than feeling superfluous - making this show ultimately 14 eps rather than 12.

Some real oddball and sophisticated suggestions

When Chinese BL was good it was very dirty good and when it was bad it was censored. This is the model for that statement: rich kid falls madly for the genius poor kid in his class, starts an aggressive pursuit, includes kidnapping for love, obsession, stepbrother trope, plus some cheating. I love this BL because of what I could have been. Just stop watching it after The Sex Scene. Okay?

It might not be right in your wheelhouse but what even fans forget about is how stunning the atmosphere is with this show. I mean we can feel the cold and the grunge. When they living poor it's REAL poor. It's a super immersive show. Unforgettable.

Began Beginning

Childhood best friends must come to terms with their own identities and true feelings for each other when a new boy comes to town, putting them into conflict with their families and ultimately, each other. For the first half of this show there’s a lot of sitting across from each other and talking about life choices over yummy food and then going to tourist spots (mildly boring and not particularly important to the plot). It changed tone about 2/3 in to be way more of a coming out family drama about forced marriages and homophobia. And then at the very end it changed again, becoming a full on soap opera with kidnapping, crazy characterization shifts, and rescue missions. All in all? It was a wild raw creature to consume as a binge. No kisses since this is Myanmar, but a very romantic end, so I think maybe actually worth your time? I'm certainly glad I watched it.

Stay Still

What to say about this offering from Hong Kong? It’s different, a mix of early CBL, Taiwanese shorts, and Pinoy visuals. It felt like the story was 2 independent shorts that had been lengthen and then stuck together, and I wish they'd been approached as separate and tighter entities. Nevertheless, this was a complex little piece, interesting in a sweaty grungy way, with a certain aura of queer authenticity that made it simultaneously tense, unpredictable, and refreshing. I’m not sure I would necessarily call it BL, but any county’s early foray into the genre usually starts out this way, so perhaps nascent BL? Worth watching, especially if you enjoy stuff from the Philippines and Taiwan.

On the lighter end but probably still in your wheelhouse

I Cannot Reach You AKA Kimi ni wa Todokanai

Classic friends-to-lovers BL is everything Japan does best. Angsty. Emo. Aching. Driven by real thirst. Yamato is deeply in love with his childhood bestie, Kakeru, and has been for ages, unable to hide his ungainly damaging high school need. He wants Kakeru in every way possible and it oozes off of the screen. Kakeru is silly and a little simple, but not frenetic or overly camp about it. He is earnest, and genuinely wants to keep Yamato in his life which means giving a romance (and gayness) a fair chance. We watch him realize his affection and what form it can take in a truly authentic way. This show was impossibly kind to both of its lead characters and I felt almost honored that I got to watch something so lovely and rare play out on my screen.

To My Star

Hwang Da Seul directs this show about a neurotic actor (actual puppy) who takes refuge with a grumpy chef resulting in sparks, cooking lessons, and LOVE! It’s is a touch quirky to get into, but utterly charming once it hits its stride. This is the ultimate grumpy/sunshine pairing plus the most appealing light-filled kitchen of our dreams. I adore this show so much. Limited use of BL tropes makes this feel more of a sweet contemporary gay romance between an actor plagued by scandal and the grumpy chef who adopts him, but the gentleness will appeal to fans of the BL genre.

Old Fashion Cupcake

This show had me from the moment they broke the egg yolk with the chopsticks in the opening credits. It’s about a younger man with a long cherished crush on his boss (ten years older and going through a mid life crisis) who decides to save and seduce said boss with pancakes. It’s wholesome, comforting, sexy, and a very necessary narrative about still having hope, interests, and openness to affection at any age. It’s a stunningly filmed late-in-life comg of age/queerness story packaged in a subtle critique of expectations around masculinity, love, and loneliness... and it’s beautiful.

Cherry Magic (Thai remake) - this is my We Are & SCOY match pull

A soft charming warm hug of a show about crushes and mind reading and self worth that really worked for me. With no-fuss execution from a consummate team (at GMMTV) and an OG lead pair (proving why they remain eternal and deserve to grow up). Look, here’s the thing, Cherry Magic is a great Thai BL in its own right - not comparing it to any other iteration. But even when I do compare (and I've seen all the Cherries and read the manga) it stand strong. I, personally, like the Thai BL slightly better than the Japanese live action yaoi, but I think that’s because I just really enjoy Thai BL's style and I LOVE TayNew. Also all the kissing was both present and better in this version. As it should be from Thailand.

Make a Wish

A doctor who can see the dead strikes a bargain with a wish-granting irreverent tree angel - naturally they fall in love (from Sammon: Manner of Death & Triage). Stars Fluke Natouch opposite not Ohm, but who cares because Fluke has chemistry with everybody. Once again the Thai afterlife is incredibly bureaucratic but I enjoyed the premise and the unfolding of the story (it’s not predictable but still satisfying and with nice little twist). I like that the doctor is just gay AF - fag hag bestie and made of swagger. The cast is excellent but the comedic stylings are a bit overblown and tonally off. It has sad parts and did make me cry but is ultimately happy with a great sex scene, good smiley kisses, and all the agency.

the earnest declaration startles you, breaking the string of silence that had existed for hours beforehand. you freeze in your spot. you had just stood up, assuming levi was too consumed by his game, and began to make your exit for the evening. this is how it often went-- you were free to come and go as you please, usually entering or departing with little fanfare. hence why his words surprised you.

you turned back over your shoulder and took a look at him. a good look at him. it's easy to miss the signs of levi's distress, seeing as he's always hiding in his room (and usually only illuminated by the glow of his aquarium and the flashing lights of whatever game he's currently playing). but you know him. you know him better than anyone.

his pallid complexion makes his dark undereyes stand out. the way his fingers wrap around the controller doesn't hide the raw skin around his fingers, pink and irritated from the nervous picking he's clearly been doing. and even the dim lighting can't disguise the dullness in his eyes as the avoid yours.

levi is going through something. you're a little ashamed that you didn't notice sooner, but you know you shouldn't blame yourself. he wouldn't want that. pain comes in waves, insecurity in storms-- his emotions can change in a matter of moments, sorrow piling on top of him only noted by a subtle shift in his expression. you're not a mind reader. what you are, though, is someone who cares. and that's what he needs right now.

the attic is almost pitch black at this time of morning. the devildom sky barely shifts during "daylight", but usually streetlamps flicker on during waking hours enough to feel a difference. it's dawn now. the sky is a moody dark gray, clouds hanging low from your view out the attic window.

it's cold. even under all the blankets where you lay, a chill catches your skin and refuses to let go. you threw on a sweatshirt before bed, but even that couldn't protect you from the harsh devildom winter sneaking through the cracks of the house of lamentation. your fragile human body was not made to face this weather.

you peel yourself from under the covers and face the biting, stagnant air in your pajamas. belphie remains under the warmth of the covers. his breathing is soothing, like white noise, and just thinking about it makes you sleepy. but, try as you might, you can't fall back asleep when it's this cold. your body staunchly refuses to rest under these conditions. you pad quietly over to the door, careful to not wake the demon you've left behind. you're too late.

"please don't go." he murmurs against a pillow, so quietly that you almost miss it.

you turn around. it's early enough that his disillusioned mask has yet to set, leaving him vulnerable at the first sign of your absence. you haven't even made it out of the room yet.

"it's cold up here," you reply, the words coming out in a raspy whisper-yell. his only response is to lift the blankets at his side in invitation.

you scurry back into bed, this time tucked into belphie's side, drawn in by the promise of a few more hours of peace before your day begins. one of his arms holds you tight against his body-- he's a furnace, cranking out pleasurable heat you hadn't felt before you attempted to leave-- while the other takes care to pack the blankets in an impenetrable wall around you. you silently wonder if it's for comfort or to prevent you from sneaking off again. probably both.

you cuddle into his warm chest, content now with the conditions for your slumber. his quiet, steady breathing lulls you to sleep. a chill creeps over the devildom, but no longer does it keep you awake.

"i'm just distracting you."

"a welcome distraction!"

"don't you have a really big deadline coming up?"

"sure, but..." diavolo puffs and looks at the piles of paperwork in front of him, before shooting you a hopeful look. "it would be wrong of me to neglect a guest."

he's trying to use you to get out of his paperwork. with as responsible as he usually is, it always catches you off guard to see him so desperately try to avoid his duties as future king. it would be cute, of course, if you didn't know how this dance went: soon enough, babratos would be here to see you off, insisting you let lord diavolo get back to work. some days you'd linger around the demon lord's castle, spending the afternoon by the butler's side and sampling his impressive tea selection.

"i should really get home, mammon told me he wanted--"

"please don't go."

his tone is sobering. for once, he's not asking, but begging for you not to go. he doesn't have to be on his knees to get the point across-- one look from those big, earnest, endlessly sincere eyes of his and you understand.

it's not often that he gets to be selfish in this way. as much as diavolo wants you around the castle, lounging your free days away by his side, he knows the demon brothers are just as possessive over your time. he treasures every visit you make to see him. yet, it never feels like enough. today it all spills out from inside his chest, three words and a pleading look conveying a deeper sense of loneliness than you ever thought such a joyous person could hold.

you take another look back at the door before plopping yourself into a chair at the desk, opposite from him, and smiling.

"i'm sure i could play secretary for a few hours," you decide, and the high-beam grin he gives you makes it all worth it.

Oddly enough you're the villain in this relationship

As the frontrunner big boss it's an often sight to see you playfully mock your opponents before sending your minions or devastating them with a wide range attack

Having the heroes crash in on your personal time your either seated on an intimidating horned fellow, in bed with a man with silver hair, squabbling with a blushing greenette, or chuckling with the playful general of your operations

Overall you as a villain is one that has your adversaries groaning or extremely worried

On your own your unpredictable, moody, and generally shifty with your motivations

Under the surface though, your actions mask a deeper plot that are run by your entourage that scoffs at the spectating heroes every time you make your escape

They are the true supervillains but the heroes don’t need to know that

Especially when your having so much fun playing with them

Your play sessions are always detrimental more so if your actually engaging with them

Whether the heroes know it or not your always accompanied by someone from Diasomnia

Whoever isn’t secretly working behind the scenes their watching you 

Often interjecting to tell you it's time to retreat 

Not because you’re in danger necessarily but because your bored or you’ve done what you were supposed to 

When you are home with them it's like a daytime job 

It's not your focus, it's not their focus

Because at the end of the day you can’t go out often and they love that

They mostly let you do what you want of course with their silent presence

That is until they can’t be silent any longer:

The sounds of explosions roused you from your nap. Relaxing in the botanical garden with Silver and Malleus you were appreciating the day off. The shaking of the hanging plants shook with the distant explosions. Silver woke just as fast, already reaching for his sword and you, your scythe. Malleus was already at the door waiting for you to dart out of the room towards the sounds. 

Arriving at the throne room you witnessed the armed forces of your opposing nation storming the castle through a hole in its gate. Already Lilia was engaged occupying the elite forces alongside Sebek who was defending the various sprites and creatures escaping through a portal. 

“What are you doing here!?”

You let your villain-persona out, drawing their attention to you as Sebek struggled against your typical opponents. 

“Didn’t think we’d come this far, huh?!”

“Your finished méchant!” 

You commenced in battle swinging dutifully at the ‘hero and their sidekick’ . You were handling them well despite being caught off guard. Blocking left, swinging right, you continued to power up for long range attacks which would have typically weakened your opponents; but this time it didn’t. You didn’t think much of it leading them away from the main traffic flow of the action. Secluding them you had intentions of bringing them down with grand pillars you had picked with Malleus just years before. You gritted your teeth as you rigged the explosions, being sure to keep them within range. Darting off at the sound of the triggers you escaped the black rubble, watching carefully in the floating dust. Not seeing any movement you planned to return to the main room focused on getting back to your family. Running with abandon you failed to react to the dagger shooting from the dark and into your shoulder. Wincing in pain for a moment you didn’t stop pushing, running into the main room expecting to see that your team was prevailing. In a way they were, Malleus was casually sitting on his throne while Silver stood guard casually flinging away arrows and other projectiles. Lilia was also no longer seriously fighting as he carefully watched over Sebek who continued to fight with the remaining elites. You began to make your way to aid Sebek only to dodge the javelin of another army. 

Summoning a magic attack you intended to halt their movements only to be stopped by a blunt force knocking you in the head. The sound was monumental and brought everyone’s attention to your form as you rolled and slid on the rubble riddled floor. The blow was dealt by another elite force armed with a giant hammer. If that wasn’t enough the two you thought had fallen were standing alongside the newcomer. 

“I don’t think you’ve ever met me, doll. I’m quite pleased we’re meeting on these terms.”

“Give it up Ripper! This is your end!”

The hero's words struck a chord with many in the room and you were spurred to rise to your feet. You refused to meet their eyes knowing full-well that they were glowing with an unmerciful anger that would be more devastating than anything you could muster. You figured to be truly merciful you should end their lives if only to save them from the wrath of your family. So you buckled down calling your weapon to you as you pointed your weapon at the group. 

“I can’t allow you to–Agh!”

Your counter was interrupted by another elite who had been previously fighting Sebek who stood alongside the trio. Your cheek burned a searing pain from their ninja star.

“Enough out of you, pig! Now prepare for slaughter!” 

You lowered your weapon beginning to shake as you tried to fight it. You failed, bursting into tears as you let yourself fall to your knees. Maybe it was the definite concussion you weren’t nursing or maybe it was the dagger in your shoulder but that word:

“I-I’m not a pig! Puh-please don’t call me that!” 

You sobbed letting that rack your body as you covered your crying face with your bruised and scraped hands. The heroes’ guards were lowered as they questioned what this meant, assuming they won they began to smile, almost missing the green glow from the horned fae standing before his throne. Faltering at the mere presence his power presented as it began to swell as the sound of your crying seemed to be the only thing he seemed to hear. 

“What was it you said–'' He began to shift, growing to an enormous size with scales forming as the goup of heroes began to falter as they backed away in fear. “Prepare for the slaughter?”

Without restraint the dragon Malleus began to lay waste to any of the nearby elites and then the retreating army. Completely blind with rage he entirely missed the elites who still stood in a formation just a meter away or perhaps he was aware that they’d be dealt with. 

“D-did you know they had a dragon on their side?”

“N-no. What do we do now?”

“Maybe we can make them tell us.”

Taking all but one step towards your still sobbing form before being met with the horrifying presence of the fae general: Lilia Vanrouge. Surrounded by magic wisps of black and red his aura was suffocating, not nearly as powerful as the dragon laying waste to the army they had led but still a force to be reckoned with.

“You really were lucky…they simply wanted to end you with mercy. Now you deal with me.”

His fanged smile morphed with him into a terrifying form allowing him to latch onto the hammer wielding hero subjecting them to some unseeable pain. They hollered as they scratched at their neck then their stomach than their face all while Lilia continued to smile over him. The leader of the elites went to attack the fae only to be stopped by a stray sword plunging into their calf, wincing with pain they turned to see their attacker was your green haired companion. 

“HOW DARE YOU INSOLENT HUMANS! NO DIRT! NO LESS THAN DIRT I’M GOING TO PUT YOU IN THE GROUND! NAY YOU’RE GOING TO WISH THAT WAS ALL I WAS DOING TO YOU!!!”

The remaining hero cowered, watching their companions get tortured by the remaining fae. Frantically looking at the exits all leading to the fiery devastation in the wake of the dragon’s anger. In desperation they turned to you with a plea on their tongue. 

“Hey! Y-you–huh?”

Where you had been crying on the floor was Silver standing as he held you in his arms. Nuzzling the top of your head as you weakly cried into his chest he placed a comforting kiss on your forehead. He glared intensely at the bumbling idiot with the nerve to beg, he sneered, turning you away from them.

“I have no doubt they’ll make you suffer and it will be every bit deserving for the likes of you.”

Making his way to the portal he tried to find comfort in their screams as Lilia dragged them to the duo of corpses forced to suffer the remaining wrath of both Sebek and Lilia.

“Mmmh? Silver what happened? Where is everyone?”

“I’m happy you're alright. Malleus has dedicated himself to retaining your honor and Father went to…slow him down before he goes ‘berserk’ as you’d say.”

“Oh-okay but Sebek?”

“In the kitchen, cooking your favorite. He’s been working himself ragged because he was worried for you.” He smiles, carressing your face in emphasis as you tiredly smile back at him. 

Finally trying to gain your bearings you struggled a little to sit up as you scanned the room. The room smelt of cinders and magic as Silver supported you as you sat up.

“I-I’m back in this room? B-but Silver, why? I didn’t look at anyone romantically or even platonically, w-what did I do?”

He sighed, urging you to lay back down as he eyed your wrapped shoulder. Easily over-powering with your already weak struggle you succumbed to the plush of the magically imbued pillows.

“You didn’t do anything (Y/n)...we just…want to make sure we know who you're playing with the next time. Trust us, (Y/n) the moment Master Malleus and Father secure your reign then you can come out again. For now just stay safe for all of us.”

Pride Month Watch: Light On Me

I'm currently going through my Pride Month Watch List.

Light on Me hasn't been on my radar very long, but I've heard about it from various sources recently, so I figured I would watch it this month. I don't know anything about it, but I've heard it's good. So, let's dive in!

I'm about halfway through the first episode and realized one of the actors has one of the main roles in Black Knight (a dystopian k-drama, which I enjoyed when I watched it last year).

So, the first episode is over, and I feel like Shinwoo (the guy who was against Taekyung joining the student council) is Taekyung's first love. Or, perhaps I've seen too many enemies-to-lovers stories and this trope might just be messing with my head...

I'm near the end of episode 2 and must say that Daon is really sweet. He's my favorite character at this point. I get the feeling that he might remember Taekyung for other reasons than just having a good memory. But, please don't tell me we're getting a love triangle...

I love that the moody brooder Shinwoo wears dark (black/gray) clothes every time I've seen him so far.

Namgoong is ridiculous, so I love him (obviously).

Oh, lord. The date in episode 3 is so awkward. But I love how completely honest Taekyung is, he just says what's on his mind.

I have a feeling that Daon being nice to everyone will become a bigger problem in the coming episodes.

I’ve just started episode 4, and I’ve decided that every time Shinwoo says he doesn’t like Taekyung from now on, he’s actually saying that he likes Taekyung.

This is starting to look like a love... what's the next thing after a triangle? Love square? Love quadrangle? Well, you get the point, it's a mess, lol.

I’m on episode 8 and the girl (whom I can never remember the name of, lol) is using Daon being nice to everyone against Taekyung to say that he’s not anyone special to Daon. And, at the same time, Shinwoo is stepping up his own game to get closer to Taekyung, which Daon is seeing. This is getting delicious.

I'm halfway into episode 9 and this series is starting to lose points from me. Honestly, the BL screenwriters who write female characters to be the wedge between the queer boys who like each other, just because she likes one of them too, need to develop their repertoire...

This is obviously a me-problem because I know that Korea is a very different country than where I'm from (I'm from northern Europe, btw) and their view of girls/women is very different from where I was born and raised. But I can't help but get annoyed at it.

Sohee (yes, I remember her name now) is so stereotypically written and boring at this point. Hopefully, it will change in an episode or two. Hopefully, Daon will be upfront with her that he has zero interest in her so she humbly backs off. His dilly-dallying with her isn't exactly helping either.

Anyway...

Thank every higher power Namgoong is here to be ridiculous. I love him so much. So, whatever points this series is losing because of Sohee (and Daon not telling her what's up), Namgoong makes up for it. And Shinwoo's longing stares at Taekyung. I love those too.

So, Shinwoo's way to get closer to Taekyung was to physically bump into him?

No wonder Taekyung ignored him, lmao!

Daon taking off the bracelet he got from Taekyung physically hurt me. It's understandable considering the conversation that led up to it (and that conversation in itself was annoying to watch even though it felt more than realistic). It still hurt me. And that Taekyung noticed Daon wasn't wearing the bracelet anymore hurt me too.

I'm nearing the end of the 10th episode and Taekyung feel like he has been rejected by Daon because of the bracelet, Daon's reaction when the dudes interrupted them, and Daon not being able to find the words to say anything. Then they showed that Daon has one of those tubes you store papers in (commonly used by architects and artists), where he (most likely) has a drawing of Taekyung (which Taekyung asked for in a previous episode).

Daon clearly likes Taekyung. I get the feeling that he's holding back because of what those two dudes said to him earlier. There could be something more behind it as well. The family is often a reason, but they haven't been mentioned all that much (just that they practically ignore Daon).

Namgoong just stood up to Sohee for Daon and Taekyung, and I love him even more than I did before.

I'm on episode 11 and it seems like the family might be another reason Daon holds back and that potential rumors could hurt their reputation or status. I hope this doesn't turn into one of those stories where the parents transfer him to another school just because of rumors...

This is getting really painful to watch. Painful for the characters, I mean (because I love the pain it's giving me, lol).

I'm glad that at least Taekyung has someone there for him when he's falling apart.

I hope Daon has someone to be there for him too. I'm sure the other three (Shinwoo, Namgoong, and Taekyung) will stand up for him against the idiots at school, but he seemed so lonely at home. It breaks my heart.

I love how Shinwoo took on the role of Daon's friend and then Taekyung's friend to share the different perspectives on what happened so that Taekyung could understand things from Daon's perspective but also feel like he had Shinwoo in his corner. I love friends like this.

I've got so much respect for Shinwoo after his conversation with Daon in the 12th episode. He knows that both he and Daon like Taekyung, but he doesn't take advantage of Taekyung now that he's heartbroken and vulnerable. Instead, he told Daon to stop avoiding Taekyung and to fix things with him.

I love this. It's not a competition or about who gets the boy by playing dirty tricks. It's about two long-time friends who respect each other and just want what's best for the boy they like. It's such a big contrast to the whole Sohee and Daon situation, and I fucking love it.

I love Namgoong so fucking much!

I’m at the beginning of episode 13 and I’m glad Daon got pissed at Sohee. He had every right to be considering she outed him and Taekyung to the whole school. I like the way he handled it and how he told her he never wanted to see her again. I mean, she betrayed his trust. Let’s see how long it lasts (I hope it lasts until the end of time, but that’s just me being petty as fuck when it comes to people who betray my trust, lol).

I’m glad Sohee apologized to Taekyung, as she should. That doesn’t mean I would want her as a friend, though. Taekyung is clearly not as petty as me, lol.

It’s near the end of episode 14 and Daon has practically forgiven Sohee, so that didn’t last long. But I’m glad he said they might not be able to be good friends right now.

It was a drawing of Taekyung in that tube. Too bad Daon's declaration of love comes now, though, because I feel like Taekyung is already moving on. Timing is everything.

Have I said that I love Namgoong? No? I fucking love Namgoong. He’s so sweet and funny and ridiculous that I can’t help but smile like an idiot when I see him on my screen. I love him so much.

The way I cheered for Shinwoo when he asked Taekyung at the end of episode 15 if Taekyung was going to keep him waiting… Shinwoo has waited for a long time to get closer to Taekyung.

And then the way I cheered for Daon when they showed the flashback of him kissing Taekyung’s forehead… These boys...

I have no idea how this is going to end (probably enemies to lovers since that’s so common), and I’m not really leaning more toward one rather than the other. (Normally I would be loud about poly at this point, but I don’t think these boys are ready for that.) So, let’s see what happens.

Overall, this was a great show. I really liked the friendship between the four boys. I haven’t written anything about the teacher but I loved his role in the series. He was always so kind and gave great advice to all of them. A guiding light in the murky waters of being a young queer kid.

Obviously, my favorite character was Namgoong. He was ridiculous, funny, sweet, and an amazing friend who stood up for the people he cared about.

Seriously, I love Namgoong!

This is definitely one of the better QLs I’ve seen from Korea, and I’m happy I watched it.

Gong Jun as Xia Yao in Advance Bravely

listen, I am focusing on the roles but also: it's Gong Jun - one of the most gorgeous men I have ever seen. He is both feisty and baby in this. I do like hunky men, I like short kings. But from time to time I feel like sparring with a tall guy who I can later bully in bed. And he is also bratty and pouty in this series and gets spanked. I think I can work with that.

2. Mark Pakin as Nick in Only Friends

I think I have said enough that Boston is a dick and also that I can see my younger self in him. So with Mark's *gestures wildly* everything, Nick clearly falls into the most gorgeous men alive category that I also want to make cry in bed. We know Boston is great at sex. But he also stuck with Nick, so I really want to know what he can do. He should probably ride me.

3. Mix Sahaphab as Wen in Moonlight Chicken

besides Mix being stunning, both in terms of looks and in terms of character Wen is not someone I would usually go for. But he has sensuality down, and that first look at Uncle Jim had Uncle Jim feeling a specific type of way and agree to take him home with him and I cannot argue with that. And I do like a guy who can do a one night stand.

4. Tay Tawan as Shin in 3 Will Be Free

why are you, as a man, holding a guys waist while craning your head to get all the french kisses? well, you could be Tay Tawan as Shin. Both beautiful and oh so moody and brooding when you think your first crush is into the the stunning women at your side. This is the perfect threesome and I would very much like to be part of it.

5. Joong Archen as Joke in Hidden Agenda

whatever this series was and despite his character being a bit underwritten, one thing the writing team made sure of was to let us know that Joke can arrange your body in any way he wants. he's both very caring and soft which doesn't quite fit the intensity of the "carnally" theme, but just watching him lift Zo up gives me so many ideas to what else he can do. and he said himself, that sex with him is going to make you feel very good.

6. Fandy Fan as Hsia Yu Hao and Zach Lu as Qiu Ziu Xuan in Crossing the Line

both stunning. I appreciate that Hsia Yu Hao dreams of getting dominated a bit and while they are young and inexperienced the electricity in the shower room scene gives me all the confidence that they both know what to do. Plus points for the possibilities to fuck all over the gym when you're young and horny and don't care that much about the mood of a place.

7. Net Siraphob as King in Bed Friend

do I still have to watch the show? yes. but just by looking at the gifsets I am very certain that he should be at the top of any "desiring carnally" list. he is cocky, knows what to do with his hands, has some great moves (that bed jump), is kinky and his eyes convey how much he loves to fuck and how turned on he is at all times. he also seems very sweet and caring. even I would consider him as boyfriend material. and that is wildly out of the norm.

8. Kouhei Takeda as Nozue and Kimura Tatsunari as Togawa in Oldfashion Cupcake

you just know that they are great at sex, even before the infamous thumb scene. the sensuality, the amount of pent-up horniness togawa brings to the table. and while he probably hasn't gotten laid for some time i get the feeling that nozue is naturally good in bed once he feels comfortable in his body. they would make for some really great slow and dirty saturday evening sex.

9. Boss Chaikamon as Phayu in Love in The Air

yes, this is Boss being an excellent kisser but that makes it canon for Phayu in the show. Usually not that into getting dommed necessarily but oh boy would I make an exception for him. (Prapai and his beagle energy and sex at the workplace was a hot contender though).

10. Gap Jakarin as Yai in The Sign

cannot believe I only now arrived at a himbo character but here he is. you could offer to ride him and he would say thank you and maybe shed a little tear about it. maybe not the best technique but definitely the energy to balance it out.

honorary mentions: Daddy Dan (Papang Phromphiriya) in Only Friends...maybe not the most adventerous but he is very charming and a great kisser, Daddy Chan (Peter Knight) in KinnPorsche ...while the whole cast is stupidly hot all characters would annoy me too much to even consider for a one night stand. daddy chan however..., Time (JJ Chalach) in KinnPorsche that being said..he cheats on the most beautiful being that is Tay who still sticks with him so I guess the dick has to be fantastic
