Hello Nohr!! :D 🩷 it’s not too cold here today, most of our snow has melted again, but it’s been SUPER windy! Some transport trucks were blown off the roads up the coast from where I live. Ouuu!! For a song, “Put a Flower in Your Pocket” by The Arcs reminds me of being in art school, especially like. 2016-2018. Same with “Bassem Sabry” by of Montreal, my professor had it in the figure model drawing playlist.

For an album, I was a HUUUGE Avril Lavigne fan when I was a kid. I think my parents bought Let Go for my older emo sister, but she didn’t like her so I ended up getting it. I was 5 years old LMAO. So Avril was pretty much the soundtrack to my early years.

crème caramel ー describe your favorite breakfast

I was going to say pancakes— which I do love so much— but I just had the memory of eating toutons at my Nan’s house and. Yeah. Toutons are pan fried bread dough and you eat them like a pancake, with syrup or molasses. When I was a kid I would eat them with syrup AND sugar. Now I just have em with syrup. It’s been so long since I’ve had them but now I have a craving 😩

I also love an open toast sandwich— scrambled eggs and avocado and cheese… it’s all gooey and then the bread gives it crunch so it isn’t sensory hell. Loves it!

taiyaki — which anime/manga character do you feel best represents your personality & why?

In another ask I said my main one was Miranda Lotto, but some other characters I relate to a lot are: Tendou Satori from Haikyuu, Alma Karma from D.Gray-Man, Ritsu from K-On, and Usagi and Makoto from Sailor Moon! 💕

o único país além dos estados unidos que já foi é o canadá. visitou o país em das ocasiões: uma excursão de sua universidade para montreal (cujo objetivo era fortalecer o francês, e nate foi e voltou sem saber mais que meia dúzia de palavras ), quando estava no segundo ano, e uma viagem durante o inverno junto de seu amigo de escola, jasper, em que visitaram ottawa, calgary e tortonto (duas semanas mais que suficientes para os nate descobrir que não tem o menor preparo para a vida em um lugar tão frio).

Jonathan Goforth

Jonathan Goforth became the foremost missionary revivalist in early twentieth-century China and helped to establish revivalism as a major element in Protestant China missions.

He grew up on an Ontario farm, the seventh of eleven children. Hearing G. L. Mackay, Presbyterian missionary to Formosa (Taiwan), speak, he sensed God’s call to go to China. Attending Knox College for training, Goforth met Rosalind Bell-Smith at the Toronto Union Mission.

She had been born in London, England, and had grown up in Montreal. They married in 1887 and eventually had eleven children, six of whom survived childhood. They pioneered the North Honan (Henan) mission in 1888.

In 1900, the Goforths barely escaped the Boxers (a Chinese anti-imperial and anti-foreigner rebel army) and returned to Canada. After their return to Honan in 1901, Jonathan Goforth felt increasingly restless.

In 1904 and 1905, he was inspired by news of the great Welsh revival and read Finney’s "Lectures on Revivals." In 1907, circumstances brought him to witness firsthand the stirring Korean revival (When the Spirit’s Fire Swept Korea [1943] representing His response). As he returned to China through Manchuria, congregations were so fascinated by his accounts that they invited him back in early 1908.

During this extended visit there occurred the unprecedented “Manchurian revival,” which transformed Goforth’s life and ministry; from then on he was basically an evangelist and revivalist, not a settled missionary. He also became one of the best known of all China missionaries, admired by many, but disliked by some for his “emotionalism.”

Goforth remained active well into the 1930s, especially in Manchuria; in 1931 the Goforths coauthored, "Miracle Lives of China." After his death in Toronto, Rosalind, a capable writer who had first published in 1920, wrote the popular "Goforth of China" (1937, with many reprints), and her own autobiography, "Climbing: Memories of a Missionary’s Wife (1940)."

🎤 Marking their first concert presentation in Montréal, lesbian-event organizers Ellelui present Constellations: A Benefit Concert for Black Healing Fund at Théâtre Fairmount on Friday, December 16, 2022. Featuring performances by Naïka Champaïgne, OK Naledi and Fraud Perry (with bonus afterparty sounds from KidCrayola), proceeds will assist the volunteer-run Black Healing Fund in providing funding for mental health and wellness services to low-income members of the community. 🕯 In recognition of World AIDS Day, Montréal’s Parc de l’Espoir (founded by ACT UP Montréal in 1991) hosts a Vigil for those lost to HIV/AIDS. Free and open to all at 5:00 PM. 🎤 Ria Mae comes to Le Studio TD on December 1, 2022, with Virginia to Vegas and Noelle. Tickets at Evenko.

** Lola Rosa Place-Des-Arts, Montréal ** We hadn't heard of poutine at all until we came to Canada. For those in the same boat, Poutine is a hearty dish of french fries and cheese curds topped with a brown gravy. It is said to have emerged in Quebec, Canada, in the late 1950s in the Centre-du-Québec region. We cannot see why (because it's so delicious) but for many years it was said to have been perceived negatively and mocked, and even used by some to stigmatize the Québécois culture. Nowadays though, Poutine is the national dish of Canada, there are even Poutine festivals to celebrate the humble dish in major cities such as Toronto, Ottawa and Chicago. Here was our first ever taste of Poutine, the 'Poutine Lola' (vegan of course) 🌱 Frites fraiches, fromage en grain du Québec, sauce brune aux champignons et herbes. Homemade french fries, Quebec vegan cheese sauce, with a fresh herb and mushroom gravy.
