1. Antu Dreamlike Teaparty Centaur BJD’s

I’ve thought about these constantly since they were revealed. They’re just so SWEET 🥹. I have a couple coming in this week, I really hope I get the purple one!

2. Ddung Clown Doll

Ddung is a Korean doll line I just learned about! They seem to fall between collector and playline— the bodies are study & the outfits are very detailed and well-constructed. This clown is EVERYTHING

3. Licca Chan Bunny Outfit

Okay so this is an outfit FOR a doll and not a doll itself, but oh my god look at Licca’s fluffy bunny outfit!! UGH!! Basic Licca dolls can be relatively affordable. Plus, the clothing sets usually fit rainbow high 👀

4. Dorothy Forest Spirit

These are figures more than dolls, but I just adore these little deer ladies!! I have the one with the green raindrop dress, and I bring her around everywhere to keep me company. Their sitting position makes them so easy to display!

5. Teennar Campus Blindbox BJDs

They’re fruit themed, they’re fashionable, and they’re SO baby!! There’s also going to be a series of figurines and a set of Sakura-themed recolors for this line!

i am however inventing stipulations for myself so i cannot weasel my way out of it, which includes a valid definition of “write”:

I started this month off strong… only to flop hard after the first ten days. Nevertheless, I got things done! So without further ado:

The Mysteries of the Apricot Sun 🌇

Darby offered her hand. Hespar took it. Together they twirled around in tight circles, syncing their movements once more. They had to, in order to keep their interlaced dance going. They spun on their heels together, pushed at the other’s arms when she pulled, backed away as the other advanced. It was pure harmony.

This month’s writing includes a lot of Darby and Hespar moments. (For once, Hespar is actually consistently around!)

The Claws of the Ounce 🫀

Her head spun with everything she was seeing and learning, round and round and round. “Here.” Mailhairer slid a plate of steaming rotisserie chicken, a wing and half a breast, towards her. This was followed by a fork. Ash blinked hard, now even more disoriented. He’d been going to throw out the deer leg just a moment ago, right? She hadn’t even heard the hum of the microwave.

Mailhairer’s reworked backstory was surprisingly hard to write.

I’ve been thinking about Forest in a Shadow Box, the hiatused sequel to A Summer with the Immortal, again. Mainly about Machaon, his character is interesting (and relatable in some ways…) Part of the reason I put it on hiatus was because I was trying to appeal to potential publishers by not making the story a trilogy for certain, but now that I’ve decided I won’t be doing trad pub, I guess I can work on it again.

So I decided to rewrite it. I wrote a new opening paragraph for it, plus one sentence of the next paragraph. It’s 90 words long right now. I’m not committing to it as a project yet, but The Ideas Are There.

thinking about artist Archie and Frenchie both pulling random fluxus/grapefruit prompts and doing them together. Then it becoming a weekly Revenge artist exercise.

Fluxus (experimental art movement) and Grapefruit (book by Yoko Ono that embodied Fluxus) - basically ‘event scores’ or prompts for (often) performance art. They were often absurd, often ephemeral or esoteric or inevitable. Examples:

(tape piece iii and walking piece from Grapefruit by Yoko Ono George Brecht. Games and Puzzles (Name Kit) from Fluxkit. 1965, Fluxus Edition announced 1965 Page from Fluxus 1, containing ‘Flux Napkin’. 1964, Fluxus Edition announced 1966) (God I’m crying reading Grapefruit now. but anyway I can perfectly imagine Archie’s smile and laugh and body language while they do some of the sillier prompts, and Frenchie’s little smirk. It’s the smirk of pyramid scheme and authentic planks. The events that ask for silence, they do with permanent little smiles channeling the silliest and most earnest intentionality that you can’t NOT look at it and not be soppy about it.

Fluxus isn’t just prompts or events, it’s a whole movement. It’s about accessibility of art, it’s about making art constantly, it’s about being anti-art, it’s about subverting the capitalist ideas of art. But to me it’s a beautiful exercise in opening yourself to the vastness of art. Everything is and can be art, from the sound of silence to the crushing of stones to the using of a napkin to taking a walk with someone. It’s down to intention, it’s down to openness, It’s down to earnestness and curiosity. It’s down to being receptive and most importantly PLAYFULNESS. It’s about letting art be low stakes and letting art into every moment of your life. It’s about embodying art.

Plus, Izzy would love this bc that sub loves to follow a direction. Man is lost in subspace watching the stars and turning on and off his headlights and walking in someone else’s footsteps.

Even more emotional thinking abt how in college, in his really intense performance art and physical exertion phase, Izzy loved Fluxus and the idea of art being that and following directions and experiencing something new from it.

Then he gets to know the crew eventually, And finds out they do this. And oh, he’s taken aback. Launched back to being 19, to grieving his sister and transitioning and experiencing lack of bodily autonomy and finding refuge in performance art. And fondness bubbles up so hot and acrid he has to step outside. After that he’s part of the weekly events. He and the crew relish the events that take the most time, like the walking piece. The crew is fascinated by his earnestness and tenacity when so often before they only saw perfection and persnicketiness.

I will never forgive myself for bying a convertible laptop/tablet thing in 2018 bc it was cheap. Now I am sitting on FOUR fucking GB Ram that have been full since 2019, and I am in need of a new laptop AND anew phone now bc neither can be upgraded through repairs. I was so fuckig dumb to prioritize a small computer over one that would actually do the work
