Tumblr media
Late March 1927, Edinburgh Scotland
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It wasn’t the life Samira’s parents wanted for her. She was supposed to marry a man like her father, one who could help run the company she would inherit. Yet, here she was, in a small house in Scotland, making dinner for herself and a man she was not married to. Her parents liked Montgomery when she’d brought him to India—though secretly, her father had implied that while she would still inherit plenty of money upon his death if she married Montgomery, her male cousins would get the company, not she.
She didn’t know what was worse, the threat of being cut out from the business her family had worked decades for or the fact she didn’t care if her cousins got everything. Samira supposed that was what love did to someone. She was willing to live in a completely different country, where accents were difficult to understand, and the food was atrocious because she loved Montgomery. Of course, Scots were much kinder to her than most English—perhaps it was over a shared bond of being ruled over by a bunch of culture-lacking idiots, or how Montgomery and his sister Elspeth called them when their English friends weren’t around, numpty cunts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She tried to spend her free time with the local Indian community in Edinburgh, but most days she was alone in their house while Montgomery treated the poor. She didn’t have siblings or female cousins, so she had grown up mostly alone. It didn’t bother her.
Some days Samira spent hours staring at the photographs of Montgomery and Edeline. When they had moved in, Montgomery set those aside, knowing it was inappropriate to have all those photos of his former wife, but she had insisted on hanging them. She thought it cruel to leave her in a dark corner, gathering dust. She was not jealous of the woman her lover had married years ago. She knew how deeply he felt for her—the quiet weeping in the late of the night he thought she did not hear when it was their wedding anniversary or her birthday and day of death. Samira knew she was loved by him, and therefore found it pointless to deny the presence of Edeline’s ghost.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The door opened, and the Scotsman walked in with a smile on his face—most days he came home upset, groaning over the sick people he couldn’t help.
Samira welcomed the change of emotions as she kissed to greet him. “You’re in a good mood.”
He nodded. “Aye. Today’s a good day.”
“And why’s that?”
He shrugged nonchalantly. “I dinna ken. Just is.”
Tumblr media
During dinner, Montgomery talked her ear off, telling her a humorous thing that had happened at the hospital where he worked. It was the happiest he’d looked in some time, and Samira was sure there was a reason behind his mood. It was nefarious to think so, but for someone who’d dealt with bouts of melancholia often, being this happy meant there was a force behind it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the evening, after they’d gotten ready for bed, Montgomery played an old classical song on their phonograph, twirling her into a waltz. While she had learned Western dances for fast-paced jazz such as the Foxtrot and Charleston, she’d never learn how to properly waltz—at Byron and Eleora’s wedding, she’d spent most of the slow dances drinking until proper jazz began to play. Montgomery led them slowly as she tried to clumsily follow along, praying she wouldn’t step on his toes.
“Ya make me wanna do this every night,” he claimed, his blue eyes unfocused without his glasses.
“Step on your toes while I try not to make a fool of myself?”
He chuckled. “No. Just… bein’ with ya. Together.”
Tumblr media
Samira stepped away from him and crossed her arms. “What are you plotting?”
“What’d ya mean?”
“I know you’re up to something.”
At this, he paused before slowly nodding. “Aye, ya’ve got me there, darlin’.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He walked toward the nightstand on his side of the bed, putting on his glasses and opening the drawer to fetch something. “I’d like to see ya when I do this.”
“Do what?”
He smiled, turning around, and she quickly realized he was holding a small box. “I think… I’m ready. To move on. I fuckin’ love ya, Samira,” he began, bending on a knee, revealing a ring adorned with a small diamond. “I wanna marry ya. And… I ken that I’m not the man yer parents wanted for ya. I’m a hypocrite when it comes to me politics and friends, and I’m difficult to live with. I canna offer the life ya deserve, but I love ya, and I’ll do anythin’ for ya. I’ll be yer husband, if ya’ll have me.”
Samira pulled him by his arm to stand. “Oh, shut up you bloody melodramatic Scot, of course I will fucking marry you—I don’t care what people think of us. I love you. And that’s all I need.”

For Almost A Century, The Kuertz Family Guarded Hazelwood’s Natural Beauty
On the north side of Montgomery, a couple of nature preserves perpetuate the memory of Hazelwood, a once wild corner of Hamilton County. The Harris M. Benedict Nature Preserve is owned by the University of Cincinnati and the adjacent Johnson Preserve was donated to the City of Montgomery.
One hundred years ago, Hazelwood was rural enough to need its own deputy game warden. That role was filled by a truly eccentric gentleman named Louis Kuertz. Warden Kuertz knew the land around Hazelwood intimately and he knew many of the woodland creatures individually.
Rube, a crow, would alight on his hand or shoulder upon being called. When Kuertz hollered across the lake on his property, a turtle named Monte would rise from the lacustrine depths and waddle up to his feet. Kuertz was instrumental in having quail designated as a songbird – and therefore exempt from hunting – in Ohio.
Tumblr media
Kuertz worked variously as a truck farmer, a cabinetmaker and as game warden, and passed along his devotion for the natural world to his wife, Anna Belle, and especially his daughter, Gertrude. When Gertrude was just 12 years old, she inspired newspaper coverage because she would trek into the autumn woods to help her father locate poachers. The Cincinnati Post [4 November 1914] noted that Gertrude knew how to identify snipe, plover and quail and was proficient with a gun and fishing rod.
“Gertrude also studies butterflies and flowers and prefers books on botanical and avicular subjects to fairy tales. In winter she goes about in the woods scattering food for wild creatures that otherwise might starve.”
Gertrude’s affection for animals extended as well to domesticated varieties. In 1916, the Post ran a series of articles, allegedly composed by a turkey named Trixey as that chubby bird awaited the arrival of Thanksgiving. With all the build-up, the Post’s readers would have expected a traditional and savory end to the gag. Instead, on Thanksgiving Day, the Post located Trixey “in full bloom of life, smiling pleasantly” at the Kuertz farm. Gertrude was there to explain:
“’We do not slaughter our pets,’ said Miss Kuertz proudly.”
The article went on to list other animals who would not provide sustenance to the Kuertz family, including a red-haired pig named Ruddy, Nana the pony, Bossie the cow and Nanny, a goat of unusual variety donated to the Kuertzes by the Cincinnati Zoo.
“Ganders and geese, ducks and drakes, pigeons and chickens and pheasants and quail – all immune from the swish of the butcher’s knife.”
Gertrude also had a pet hawk. Her interests extended to the vegetable kingdom as well. When the Association for Preservation of Wild Flowers launched a campaign in 1921, Gertrude served as poster girl, holding a sign encouraging flower lovers to leave enough blooms to reseed for the next year.
There came a time when Frank Mills Jr. came courting and the Kuertz family naturally wanted to be sure he was as committed to environmental matters as their daughter. Mills derived from a well-known Cincinnati family. His father, Frank Senior, was the longtime director of the Cincinnati Athletic Club. A nude photograph of the elder Mills hung for many years at the club as an example of perfect manly physique. Apparently the Kuertzes approved, for a wedding date was set.
Tumblr media
These days, it is considered conventional, if not downright old-fashioned, to be married in a church. A century ago, church marriages were the gold standard. Pretty much the only alternative to a religious venue was the local magistrate’s office. No one got married outside. Unless you were Gertrude Kuertz.
When Gertrude and Frank Mills said their vows on 3 October 1925, it rather caused a stir in Cincinnati social circles because the ceremony took place under the trees at the Kuertz family farm out in Hazelwood. The Cincinnati Post [8 October 1925] devoted several columns to the event:
“In what church was she to be married? She knew no place more sacred than the woods in which she had seen Creation march among her trees and touch them with life and where she witnessed since her childhood the gentleness of the divine love, even to the least of creatures. The woods were to be her church.”
As irregular as it might have seemed at the time, Gertrude’s outdoor wedding was officiated by the very proper Dr. Edward P. Whallon, described as “a minister of the Old School” in an official history of the Presbyterian Church.
The wedding culminated in a good-sized banquet, also served under the boughs of the great trees, illuminated by several bonfires. After the wedding, Gertrude’s appearances in the newspapers were largely confined to the gardening columns. She and Frank, a chemist by trade, excelled at growing almost anything except corn. Frank told the Post [7 July 1965]:
“There are too many varmints around. First the chipmunks dig up the seeds, then the rabbits eat the tender shoots and if there’s any left, the woodchucks strip the ears.”
And, of course, Gertrude would be opposed to shooting any of the brigands.
Gertrude and Frank lived most of their married life in a house personally constructed by her father on the family farm, next door to the house she grew up in. They raised a son and a daughter there.
Louis Kuertz had his own idiosyncratic architectural style that involved knocking together a rough iron framework and covering it with layers of stone and concrete. Kuertz built several such structures, including a bell tower for the local school, in the Hazelwood area. The house Kuertz built for his daughter was known to the nearby community as the Gingerbread House. It looked very much like the houses pictured in fairy tale books and had unique touches including dozens of nooks and crannies and a fireplace sculpted to look like a tree. All the doorknobs turned backwards and all the light switches were installed upside-down. Louis Kuertz died in 1933 and his ashes were placed under a memorial stone on the family estate.
Over the years, bits of the Kuertz farm were sold off. The Gingerbread House survived on a remnant acre until 1992, when it was sold to a developer by Gertrude’s daughter and was promptly demolished.

Against All Odds
Part 875
McCoy
He was floating.
He had to be.
No one could be this happy and not be lost among the clouds.
Scotty was in front of him, sliding a ring back onto his hand, gazing at him in pure joy. He’d just said the most beautiful things McCoy had ever heard; was this all a dream?
The ring stuck for a slight second as it went over his knuckle. No. Not a dream. The sensation over his knuckle, a gentle tightness, before it settled in its spot, was real. McCoy blinked quickly as a wave of emotion rose through him. His throat tightened.
“Your highness?” the registrar prompted him quietly.
McCoy swallowed and drew a deep breath.
“With this ring, I pledge my eternal loyalty and love to you,” he began. For a moment, he panicked. The words he had thought out and prepared so many times flew from his mind. He stared at Scotty, lips parted.
A gentle squeeze to his hands and a soft touch rubbed over the back of one. For a bare second he glanced down at their joined hands. Scotty believed in him. He always did. McCoy’s lips drew up into a smile. His vows had come back to him.
“The greatest moments in my life all involve you; the moment we met, the first time you kissed me, the thrill when you proposed, and now this. We have been through so much in a short time and there is no one I would rather have gone through all of it with. You make me stronger. You give me courage to do the things I didn’t think I could; to make changes, to overcome fears. You make me the best I can be. The day we met I never thought we’d end up here, but I’m so glad we have. The connection we felt in that first moment… I couldn’t ask for anything better than to stand beside you and love you for the rest of our lives.”
McCoy’s fingers slipped Scotty’s ring gently onto his hand.
The sound of muffled sniffles came from the crowd. McCoy could only imagine the handkerchiefs that would need cleaning that night.
“These two young men have come before us and pledged their love and affection. May neither break their promise to the other. By Georgiaren and Federation law you are now joined in marriage. May it be long and joyous.
“Prince Leonard, Montgomery, you may seal this promise with a kiss.”
McCoy’s face ached from the grin stretched on it. He let his hands slide from Scotty’s and lifted them to his husband’s face to draw him close. Their mouths met as cheering began behind them and for a moment McCoy thought he might just explode with the delight filling him.
“I present to you, Prince Leonard and Montgomery Scott-McCoy,” the registrar said next to them in a louder voice over the applause.
The kiss broke as the need for air arose and both boys turned to look at their families and friends. The applause grew louder as McCoy reached for Scotty's hand and joined them. Together they began to walk up the aisle. McCoy knew Christine and Robbie were following, then Spock and Jim. Their parents and Granddad would be next.
As they came to where the pair of tents were set up, Andre smiled brightly at them.
“Congratulations!” he said, opening the door for them.
“Thank you,” they said together.
In moments the rest of the wedding party and families were surrounding them. They would all wait in the tent until the guests had been ushered to the gardens for the reception.
“Oh my lads!” Francine gushed at them as she embraced them together. Her lashes were damp.
“You both said such beautiful things,” Eleanor said as she and David hugged them next.
Alasdair hugged them the tightest. “Ye’ll last lads, ye’ll last,” he whispered between them.
Everyone had their chance to congratulate and hug the couple before Eleanor finally reminded them all of the need for pictures. A photographer was waiting outside the tent with Andre. Everyone followed back out into the sunlight. Official portraits were taken of the newlyweds and the now larger family.
Impatience was rising in McCoy. He just wanted a moment alone with Scotty. Finally, before his frustration began to show, they finished. David and Eleanor led the way and the others followed to the reception.
McCoy held Scotty’s arm before he could begin to walk.
“Sir?” Andre asked quietly.
“Five minutes. I want at least five minutes for us to have alone. Please?”
“Of course your highness,” Andre smiled. “I’ll keep anyone away.”
McCoy led Scotty back to the tent.
Inside he hugged him close.
“This is the best day ever,” he whispered.
Scotty laughed. “Aye. It really is.”
“I thought you had a suit,” McCoy said as he leaned back to look Scotty over.
“I did,” Scotty grinned. “But Granddad brought the kilt. I take it ye like it.”
McCoy’s face warmed.
“Are you wearing it like a true Scotsman?” he asked with a smirk.
“I’ll let ye find out tonight,” Scotty leaned in and whispered.
McCoy’s eyebrows went up as his face grew hotter and he laughed.
“That a promise?”
“Of course,” Scotty grinned.
Part 876
Scotty
The day was quite long with lots of joy and music and cake and when Scotty and Leonard eventually got into the car taking them to the private shuttle, both boys were happy yet at the same time tired as hell.
Still, Scotty didn't want to sleep. He couldn't wait for their honeymoon at the beach house. He was quite sure that Francine had already asked her friends to prepare everything for when the boys arrived and he really looked forward to five days all alone with Leonard. Well... if they ignored security that would protect them and the house from a safe distance. Even though nobody knew where the two of them were spending their honeymoon, David had said that they couldn't be careful enough.
It was a good thing that they'd arrive in the late evening hours, thanks to the time difference between both planets. No one would notice them entering the wee house at the sea.
Scotty snuggled closer against Leonard once they were driving through the streets. He smiled softly.
"It really was a perfect day, wasn't it?"
He felt his fiancé - no... husband; he'd have to get used to that - nod his head.
"It sure was. And it was really worth the wait. Our mothers outdid themselves."
A soft chuckle escaped Scotty's mouth at hearing these words. He had expected nothing less from Francine and Eleanor.
"Aye. But I'm kinda glad that we're alone now. With so many people around, I cannae show ye my love properly."
There was a sly grin on the Scotsman's face and he moved his head so that he could look at Leonard. The prince looked surprised for a second, then grinned too.
"Oh? So you can show me now? Right here? In the car?"
Scotty laughed out before he sighed theatrically.
"I suppose ye have to wait a wee bit longer."
Leonard pouted while he wrapped his arm around Scotty's hip and tried to pull him closer.
"So... once we're on the shuttle?"
"A... wee bit longer," Scotty answered, using two fingers to point out just how 'wee'.
Leonard sighed, however, the mischievous smile quickly returned to his lips.
"Alright, but... you can't deny me a little kiss, can you?"
Scotty mused for a moment, but it didn't take too long until he leaned forward to press his lips onto Leonard's.
He couldn't deny this man anything. For he simply loved him way too much.
The flight was quite long and both Scotty and Leonard weren't able to keep their eyes open after some time. They only woke up again when the shuttle landed and they were quickly ushered to the car awaiting them.
The drive to the beach house was really fast and both boys were quite astonished when the entered the small building.
It looked just gorgeous! There were candles and flower petals and the small living area smelled like roses. Fruits had been placed on the kitchen table, but also chocolate and other tasty snacks.
"We will leave you to yourselves now, your highness, Mr. Scott," Andre said with a quick bow and Scotty had to chuckle when Leonard raised a finger at the bodyguard.
"Ah- Mr. Scott-McCoy, if you please," the prince corrected the man who nodded apologetically.
"Of course, I'm sorry. Mr. Scott-McCoy."
Scotty smiled softly.
"It's fine, Andre. It'll... take some time to get used to it. Thank ye for protecting us."
The staff member nodded, then left the house, closing the door behind him.
A grin slid across Scotty's face as he looked at the door leading to one of the bedrooms. He glanced at Leonard.
"So... ye still wanna find out what's beneath this kilt?"
His husband chuckled softly.
"I can't wait for it."

Jake looks at the huge log cabin in front of him. "Holy shit," he says in awe.
Tumblr media
"Welcome home, " Phoenix replies with a smirk on her face.
Tumblr media
Jake looks at her. "She said it was like a lodge, but..."
The front door opens, and Sheila comes out with two men behind her.
"Jake," she says briskly walking towards him.
"Momma." Jake meets her halfway and they hug.
Phoenix walks past them and onto the porch where Montgomery and Jayson stood.
"Ms. Natasha," Montgomery says.
"Natasha," Jayson says with a friendly nod of his head.
Phoenix looks at Jayson. "Well, it can't be good if you're here."
"Tosh. You know how she is."
Phoenix nods her head towards Jake. "I do but explain that to her husband."
The three of them watched Jake and Sheila.
Tumblr media
Jake walked up the front steps toward Natasha, Jayson, and Montgomery.
"Lieutenant Seresin. It's nice to finally meet you," Montgomery puts out his hand. "I'm Montgomery."
Jake shakes his hand. "It's nice to meet you, Montgomery. Y/N speaks highly of you."
"You as well, Sir. I'll grab yours and Ms. Natasha's bags." He walks towards the SUV.
Tumblr media
Jake looks at Phoenix.
Tumblr media
"Hangman, meet Sheriff Jayson Dillenger. Sheriff and Y/Ns former husband's best friend."
They shake hands.
"It's nice to meet you, Lieutenant Seresin. I haven't had a chance to talk to Y/N about you, but I've read your background," Jayson says.
Tumblr media
Jake clenches his jaw. "Y/N hasn't mentioned you at all.
Tumblr media
Phoenix clears her throat. "Why don't we all go inside."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the foyer, Jake looks at Jayson and Sheila. "Where's my wife?"
Sheila looks at Jayson and then Jake. "Son..."
"Lieutenant. We need to talk," Jayson states matter of factly. "This way." He points to the door of the office.
Tumblr media
Jake walks into the office and Jayson follows behind and closes the door.
"Again, it's nice to meet you. I just wish it was under better circumstances."
Tumblr media
Jake walks over to your desk where he sees his picture in his dress whites from the wedding. He doesn't remember the photographer taking the picture.
Tumblr media
Then he picks up the picture of Christian behind him. "So, this is Christian?"
Jayson walks towards him. "Yes."
Jake put the picture back down and turned to Jayson. "How'd you meet?"
"I was an MP at the base he was deployed to overseas."
"And you moved her why?"
"I promised Christian I'd watch over her," he replies with a sigh.
Jake raised an eyebrow. "And how'd that go?"
"You're the one with a ring on your finger. She's like the sister I'm glad I never had."
Tumblr media
Jake smirked. "Sounds about right. So, what do we know so far?"

Your promised ask, my dear. <3
Share ten facts about Sidney and Chekov, pretty please!! 💙💙💙
I’m so sorry for answering this far too late, but I’m still loving these space cuties!! 💙💙💙 Thank you SO much @starlit-epiphany / @daughter-of-melpomene!! 😘
When Sydney first met Chekov through Starfleet Academy, they couldn’t stand each other. Sydney thought that he was too brash and Chekov thought that she was too reserved.
They soon became friends when Kirk saw that there was potential chemistry between the two and he assigned them both on a mission, in which they both work along side each other and both realised that they’re not that much different.
Sydney and Chekov teasingly call each other lioness and badger in reference to their Hogwarts houses.
Neither of them were jealous when the individual person were in romance relationships with another person. The only times when this happened were when Irina Galliulin (Chekov’s ex girlfriend from Starfleet) came back and when Sydney was briefly in a friends with benefits relationship with Kevin Riley (yes, the guy that sang “I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen” in that episode).
Despite Chekov being estranged from his own father, he encouraged Sydney to track down her birth father who is a well known and respected admiral in Starfleet. The two of them meet several times, which he confesses that he only thinks of her as a good friend, Sydney realises there will never be a parental bond between them and stops seeing him.
Since Scotty is the closest thing that Sydney has as a father, Chekov asks for his permission to propose to Sydney. As a plan, Sydney’s superior officer assigned her to the away mission the next day. Chekov was assigned at the last minute (With special permission from Captain Kirk, of course!!).
A blink later, they were standing on a planet. But…this wasn’t like the specs. It was supposed to be clammy and filled with murky water and swamp terrain. Instead, it was sunny and flower filled hills rolled for as far as Sydney could see. Chekov led Sydney into a small glen of trees, all heavy with perfumed flowers. In the heart of the little forest, was a tall grandmother tree where thousands upon thousands of dreamcatchers hung there. Chekov pulled a dream-catcher from his pouch. It was pretty, leather and sinew stringing together a vast array of natural stones. The centre was rose quartz, symbolizing love of course, Chekov was such a romantic. But the ends were different. Pink glass hung from all the ends except for one. Tied around the centre was…a ring. Which led to Chekov doing the Earth tradition, dropping down on one knee, which Sydney accepted his proposal.
On their first wedding anniversary, Chekov surprised Sydney with tickets for the both of them to watch Sydney's favourite theatre show; the old earth musical-theatre show Hamilton. (Let’s admit it, Hamilton would just as much of an old classic to them as Shakespeare is to us!)
When Sydney find out she was pregnant, both she and Chekov didn’t want to learn the gender until the birth, but they made a wager. If it was a girl, Sydney chooses the first name, and Chekov chooses the middle name. If it was a boy, Chekov chooses the first name, and Sydney chooses the middle name. (Even though, Chekov was very certain it was a boy!)
After a long and difficult birth, their son who they’ve named “Nikolay Montgomery Chekov” was eventually born. When he was was nearly two years old. He was a small boy that took strongly after his father, with his stocky figure, mop of floppy brunette hair and warm brown eyes. However, he had his mother's nose, and he was already exhibiting his photographic memory, just like Sydney. He was also already able to speak whole conversations in fairly complex complete sentences in both English and Russian, and it was clear he'd be smarter even than Chekov.

Planning a Fabulous Reception-Only Wedding in the DMV Area: Ideas, Locations, and Timeline
Planning a wedding is one of the most exciting times in a bride's life, but it can also be a bit overwhelming, especially when it comes to budgeting. More and more brides are opting for reception-only weddings as a way to create a memorable celebration while keeping costs in check. If you're planning a reception-only wedding in the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia) area, you’re in luck! The DMV offers a variety of stunning and budget-friendly locations to host your dream reception. As an expert wedding planner in the DMV, I'm here to guide you through the process with ideas, venue suggestions, and a sample timeline to help you plan the perfect day. Why Choose a Reception-Only Wedding? Reception-only weddings are becoming increasingly popular for several reasons: - Budget-Friendly: Skipping the traditional ceremony and focusing solely on the reception can significantly reduce costs. You can allocate more of your budget toward creating an unforgettable party atmosphere. - Less Stress: Without the need to plan a ceremony, you can focus all your energy on making the reception as fabulous as possible. - Flexibility: A reception-only wedding allows for more flexibility in terms of venue choice, timing, and guest list size. - Creative Freedom: With a reception-only wedding, you have the freedom to design the event exactly as you envision it, from the décor to the entertainment. Planning Your Reception-Only Wedding While a reception-only wedding may simplify some aspects of planning, there are still important details to consider. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you plan the perfect reception: - Set Your Budget: Start by determining your budget. This will guide all your decisions, from the venue to the menu to the entertainment. Be sure to allocate funds for the essentials like food, drinks, décor, and photography. - Choose a Theme: Decide on a theme or style for your reception. Whether it’s rustic chic, elegant garden, or modern glam, having a theme will help you make cohesive decisions about décor, colors, and even the venue. - Create Your Guest List: With a reception-only wedding, you might be able to invite more guests than you would for a full-day event. Consider how many people you want to celebrate with and choose a venue that can comfortably accommodate your guest list. - Select a Venue: The DMV area is rich with beautiful and budget-friendly venues. Whether you’re looking for a charming garden, a historic mansion, or a modern event space, there’s something for every style and budget. - Plan the Menu: Food and drink are central to any great reception. Decide whether you want a formal sit-down dinner, a buffet, or something more casual like food stations or a cocktail-style reception. - Hire Vendors: Secure your vendors early, including a caterer, DJ or band, photographer, and florist. If you’re on a tight budget, consider hiring vendors who can offer packages or bundle services. - Create a Timeline: Plan a timeline for your reception that includes key events like the grand entrance, first dance, dinner, toasts, and cake cutting. This will help the evening flow smoothly. Budget-Friendly Reception Venues in the DMV Area The DMV area offers a wide range of venues that are both beautiful and affordable. Here are some of my top picks: - Rockwood Manor (Potomac, MD): Located in the heart of Montgomery County, Rockwood Manor is a historic estate surrounded by 30 acres of lush forest. It’s perfect for a rustic or garden-themed reception. The venue offers several event spaces, including a charming outdoor pavilion and a grand ballroom. - Rockwood Manor - Meadowlark Botanical Gardens (Vienna, VA): For a reception with stunning natural beauty, Meadowlark Botanical Gardens offers a serene setting with picturesque gardens, ponds, and walking paths. The Atrium at Meadowlark is an elegant glass-walled space that brings the outdoors in. - Meadowlark Botanical Gardens - District Winery (Washington, D.C.): If you’re looking for a chic urban venue, District Winery in Navy Yard offers a modern and sophisticated space with views of the Anacostia River. The second-floor event space features floor-to-ceiling windows, a private terrace, and plenty of natural light. - District Winery - Glenview Mansion (Rockville, MD): Glenview Mansion is a classic and elegant venue located in Rockville’s Civic Center Park. The mansion features stunning architecture, manicured gardens, and a large ballroom, making it ideal for a timeless reception. - Glenview Mansion - Oxon Hill Manor (Oxon Hill, MD): Overlooking the Potomac River, Oxon Hill Manor offers a stately setting with expansive lawns, formal gardens, and a grand interior. The venue is perfect for a reception with a touch of luxury, but without the hefty price tag. - Oxon Hill Manor Reception-Only Wedding Timeline Creating a timeline for your reception is essential to ensure the event runs smoothly. Here’s a sample timeline for a reception-only wedding: 4:00 PM - Guest Arrival and Cocktail Hour - As guests arrive, they can enjoy a cocktail hour with drinks and light appetizers. This is also a great time for guests to explore the venue and take in the décor. 5:00 PM - Grand Entrance and First Dance - The couple makes their grand entrance to the reception, followed by their first dance as newlyweds. This is a great moment to capture on video and in photos. 5:20 PM - Welcome Toast - A brief welcome toast is given by a close family member or friend, thanking guests for coming and setting the tone for the evening. 5:30 PM - Dinner Service - Depending on your chosen dining style (sit-down, buffet, or food stations), dinner service begins. If you’re having a sit-down dinner, consider serving a plated meal with several courses. 6:30 PM - Speeches and Toasts - After dinner, the floor is opened for speeches and toasts. Typically, the best man, maid of honor, and parents of the couple give speeches. 7:00 PM - Cake Cutting - The cake-cutting ceremony takes place, followed by dessert service. This is also a good time to serve coffee and tea. 7:30 PM - Dancing Begins - The DJ or band kicks off the dancing portion of the evening. Encourage guests to hit the dance floor and enjoy the music. 9:00 PM - Bouquet and Garter Toss (Optional) - If you’re including the bouquet and garter toss in your reception, this is the perfect time to do it. It’s a fun and lighthearted moment that guests will enjoy. 10:30 PM - Last Dance and Farewell - The couple takes to the dance floor for their last dance of the evening, followed by a grand exit. Whether it’s a sparkler send-off, a confetti shower, or something unique, this is a memorable way to end the night. 11:00 PM - Event Ends - The reception officially ends, and guests begin to depart. Make sure your transportation is arranged in advance if you’re planning to leave directly from the venue. Tips for a Smooth Reception-Only Wedding - Hire a Day-Of Coordinator: Even if you’ve planned every detail yourself, having a day-of coordinator can make a huge difference. They’ll handle the logistics, vendor coordination, and any last-minute issues, allowing you to enjoy your day stress-free. - Prioritize Entertainment: Since your reception is the main event, make sure your entertainment is top-notch. Whether it’s a live band, DJ, or even a photo booth, keeping your guests entertained is key to a successful reception. - Focus on Guest Experience: Think about what will make your guests feel comfortable and engaged. Consider having a lounge area, fun interactive stations like a photo booth (check out photoboothdmv.com for great options), or even lawn games if your venue has outdoor space. - Personalize the Décor: Even on a budget, you can create a beautiful and personalized atmosphere. DIY projects rented décor, and creative use of flowers and lighting can transform your venue into something truly special. - Plan for the Unexpected: Have a backup plan for everything, especially if you’re hosting an outdoor reception. Weather can be unpredictable, so make sure you have tents or an indoor space available just in case. Conclusion A reception-only wedding in the DMV area offers endless possibilities for creating a day that’s both budget-friendly and unforgettable. With stunning venues, thoughtful planning, and a focus on the guest experience, your reception will be the celebration of a lifetime. Transcript Under Cut
As most of you are now familiar. Crown Princess Florentia finally addressed the rumors regarding her
relationship with Crown Prince Dorian Alaire. In an interview with Bazzar, the interviewer asked Her Highness, “ Now that you are back from your international Tour. The World is wondering about your relationship with Prince Dorian. You've gone from friends to dating. The two of you have been linked together your entire life. ” She laughed and said, “ That's very true. We've always been close. I know this might disappoint a lot of people, but we've decided to go on our separate ways. Of course, we mean a lot to each other, But we're just friends now.”
And she was right, We are very disappointed. Although I still think their soulmates, Let's look back on the others who could have been.
While the Princess is Romantically linked with a few people. She started with Lord Jonah Rivera. At 16, The two met through the Soccer Program Princess Florentia created with her Aunt, Duchess Tyrell. While on the same team, The two began their romantic relationship. Only 3 months later did the couple call it quits. Although the reason is unknown. Rumor has it that, Her Highness was seen with bruising on her face. Some speculate that the relationship was indeed a toxic one due to the fact that Jonah himself was of fallen Nobility. He may have wanted to use our Princess to gain the spotlight of fame. He has not been spotted for quite some time.
For the next few years, Princess Florentia did not date anyone. But at the age of 18, She was Rumored to be Romantically linked with Montgomery Faulkner. Who is the twin brother of, Her Royal Highnesses Best Friend, Uma Faulkner. The Twins are the Heirs of the Faulkner Trust. Meaning the Faulkners are the second richest family in Myshuno. Although The two have never made it public that they were more than friends. There are some questionable images that might be evidence of their short fling.
The Crown Princesses' next relationship is one that lives in infamy. During her years in University and onward, She dated then Stephan Kline. Now Dr. Stephan Kline. Many times did they talk about their meet cute. Princess Florentia stated, “ We bumped into each other. Literally. While I fell on my face, Stephan swooped me on my feet like a Prince on a white horse.” A few weeks after the Opening Semester Gala, The Princess and Dr. Kline went official. This Relationship was the longest one Princess Florentia had. They dated for 4 years before he popped the questions a few days after graduation on their annual end-of-year vacation to Lani.
6 months after their engagement. The soon-to-be Crown Prince was spotted by paparazzi in Winden with a mistress! The image circulated in the media causing the largest scandal, The Crown Princess has ever faced. The next day, It was announced that the Royal Wedding was canceled. And the Crown Princess herself made a statement on the split. Since then the Palace has kept the relationship under wraps. But around the time of the scandal, Dr. Kline took an interview and announced that the breakup was indeed his fault. But not without blaming the Princess. The night the article was published, Crown Prince Dorian, Princess Florentia’s long-time Best Friend, was photographed punching Mr. Kline.
Princess Florentia's most beloved relationship was with Crown Prince Dorian. The two had been Best Friends throughout their entire lives Since their parents were also great friends. The two debuted their relationship at the Royal Ballet. The two were always a dazzling pair. They dated for 11 months. It is unknown why they split. Some say it was to result of Princess Florentia going on Tour at the same time Prince Dorian became Regent of Willow. Although we are still holding out hope for the two of them to get back together. Sometimes things just don't work. As they say, There is much fish in the sea.

2022 Contemporary Romances: a reading list
American Royalty by Tracey Livesay
Sexy, driven rapper Danielle "Duchess" Nelson is on the verge of signing a deal that'll make her one of the richest women in hip hop. More importantly, it'll grant her control over her life, something she's craved for years. But an incident with a rising pop star has gone viral, unfairly putting her deal in jeopardy. Concerned about her image, she's instructed to work on generating some positive publicity... or else. A brilliant professor and reclusive royal, Prince Jameson prefers life out of the spotlight, only leaving his ivory tower to attend weddings or funerals. But with the Queen's children involved in one scandal after another, and Parliament questioning the viability of the monarchy, the Queen is desperate. In a quest for good press, she puts Jameson in charge of a tribute concert in her late husband's honor. Out of his depth, and resentful of being called to service, he takes the advice of a student. After all, what's more appropriate for a royal concert than a performer named "Duchess"? Too late, Jameson discovers the American rapper is popular, sexy, raunchy and not what the Queen wanted, although he's having an entirely different reaction. Dani knows this is the good exposure she needs to cement her deal and it doesn't hurt that the royal running things is fine as hell. Thrown together, they give in to the explosive attraction flaring between them. But as the glare of the limelight intensifies and outside forces try to interfere, will the Prince and Duchess be a fairy tale romance for the ages or a disaster of palatial proportions?
Booked on a Feeling by Jayci Lee
Lizzy "Overachiever" Chung, Esq. has her life mapped out neatly: * Become a lawyer. Check. * Join a prestigious law firm. Check. * Make partner. In progress. If all goes to plan, she will check off that last box in a couple years, make her parents proud, and live a successful, fulfilled life in L.A. What was not in her plans was passing out from a panic attack during a pivotal moment in her career. A few deep breaths and a four hour drive later, Lizzy is in Weldon for three weeks to shed the burnout and figure out what went wrong. And what better place to recharge than the small California town where she spent her childhood summers with her best friend, Jack Park. Jack Park didn't expect to see Lizzy back in Weldon, but now he's got three weeks to spend with the girl of his dreams. Except she doesn't know of his decades-long crush on her--and he intends to keep it that way. She's a high-powered attorney who lives in L.A. and he's a bookkeeper at his family's brewery who never left his hometown. He can't risk their friendship on a long shot. Can he? When Lizzy decides that the local bookstore needs a little revamp, of course, Jack is going to help her bring it back to life. But the more time they spend together, the harder it becomes to ignore there might be more than just friendship among the dusty shelves and books... Sometimes the path to the rest of your life has been in front of you all along.
The Accidental Pinup by Danielle Jackson
Photographer Cassie Harris loves her job—her company Buxom Boudoir makes people look beautiful and feel empowered with her modern twist on classic pinup photography. Cassie’s best friend, Dana, is about to launch her own dangerously dreamy lingerie line and wants Cassie to shoot and direct the career-changing national campaign. But company politics and Dana’s complicated pregnancy interfere, and Cassie finds herself—a proud plus size Black woman—not behind the camera but in front of it. Though she’s never modeled herself, Cassie’s pretty sure she can handle the sheer underwear and caution tape bralettes. She’s not sure she can work so intimately with the chosen photographer, her long-time competitor in the Chicago photography scene, Reid Montgomery. Their chemistry is undeniable on set, however, and feelings can develop faster than film…
Can't Resist Her by Kianna Alexander
Two very determined women—in love, at odds, and risking a lot on a second chance. After years away from home, Summer Graves is back in Austin, Texas, to accept a new teaching position. Of all the changes to the old neighborhood, the most dispiriting one is the slated demolition of the high school her grandmother founded. There’s no way she can let developers destroy her memories and her family legacy. But the challenge stirs memories of another kind. On the architectural team revitalizing the neighborhood, hometown girl Aiko Holt is all about progress. Then she sees Summer again. Some things never change. Neither can forget the kiss they shared at their senior-year dance. Neither can back down from her unwavering beliefs about what’s right for the neighborhood. For now, the only thing Summer and Aiko are willing to give in to is a heat that still burns. But can two women with so much passion—for what once was and what could be—agree to disagree long enough to fall in love?

Inside Karlie Kloss’s New Life
The supermodel, philanthropist and new mom is making her mark beyond fashion: “I wanted to change how I was using my job and my platform as a model.”
*Please credit the blog if you repost it anywhere
The photographer Richard Avedon once described models as “a group of underdeveloped, frightened, insecure women, most of whom have been thought ugly as children—too tall and too skinny.” Since that time, much has changed. Models have become business powerhouses and, at the top of the industry, can make tens of millions of dollars a year. What hasn’t changed is that modeling is governed by highly subjective standards. But Karlie Kloss is trying to transform that.
After starting to model at 13 years old, Kloss learned some hard truths. “As a young model, your worth, your success or failure is based on the opinions of others about you,” says Kloss, now 29. “And you don’t have control over that.
So, 16 years, at least 43 Vogue covers worldwide and countless campaigns for brands including Versace, Dior and Louis Vuitton later, Kloss has recast her career strategy, seizing the reins of content production and not simply waiting to appear as booked talent. It’s something akin to being an actor who produces films. This summer, Kloss switched modeling agencies, joining The Society, which also represents Amber Valletta, Adut Akech and personalities such as musician Willow Smith and reality star–turned-model Kendall Jenner. In recent years, Kloss has invested in W magazine, alongside Jason Blum and Lewis Hamilton, as well as in companies including Therabody, Mirror and Reformation.
And since last year, she has worked with Greg Propper, the co-founder of Propper Daley, a strategic social-impact and consulting agency that advises brands and philanthropists, including stars like John Legend, on social change efforts. Propper has introduced Kloss to philanthropies such as New Profit, an organization that puts together venture philanthropy funds—essentially donations that are granted to social-impact entrepreneurs. Now Kloss is working with New Profit on an ambitious new initiative, the Postsecondary Innovation for Equity (PIE), that creates career pathways for nontraditional job candidates via investments in organizations that provide skills training and mentorships. Kloss is finding that she can relate: “I’m somebody who is not formally educated. I am a student of life.”
“We saw the connections in what she was looking for in her philanthropy and what we were doing in backing these entrepreneurs to help them get their ideas to scale,” says Tulaine Montgomery, co-CEO of New Profit, noting that Karlie’s own path has been unconventional. Part of the work involves several Zoom briefings a month on everything from government policy to business plans. “Karlie has been learning as much as she has been offering ideas and insights,” says Montgomery.
Kloss also finds a source of support for her projects in her husband, the entrepreneur and investor Joshua Kushner. Their 2018 wedding made Kloss the sister-in-law of Ivanka Trump, who is married to Joshua’s brother, Jared. But during the fall 2020 election season, Kloss posted images in support of Joe Biden, along with other Democratic candidates, drawing commentary on both sides of the aisle. “I’ve had to grow really thick skin as it relates to [being] impacted by other people’s opinions,” says Kloss. “Whether they love me or they hate me—because I’ve experienced all of it. I’ve learned to stay away from the comments section. I just try and…speak out on things that I am authentically passionate about.” She has arrived at a maxim of sorts: “I live my life and try to show my values through my actions.”
Kloss frequently collaborates directly with brands that she represents, such as designing athleisure collections for Adidas and working with Estée Lauder on a $75 Lip Kloss Kit that benefited Kode With Klossy—a program Kloss launched in 2015 offering free computer coding camps to female-identifying and nonbinary 13- to 18-year-olds. This summer, it awarded 3,000 scholarships to students from 70 countries, and she’s working to expand it further. “It is all interwoven… [even though] to somebody on the outside it might not make sense,” says Kloss via Zoom from her family’s house in Missouri, where she has traveled to celebrate her mother’s 60th birthday. Her 7-month-old son, Levi, is napping in the other room. (He’s inherited his parents’ height. “I know [Levi’s] ready to shoot some hoops,” she says.)
“I have learned so much from her, particularly as a communicator,” says Willow Bay, dean of the University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. Bay met Kloss through her husband, former Disney chief Bob Iger, and has since acted as a mentor. She groups Kloss with young athletes and creators. “They communicate and engage with audiences directly and meaningfully,” Bay says. “They are thinking about life and the impact that they can have. I think investing is one way of both exploring that and building…equity and ownership stakes that will last beyond [a] modeling career.” Kloss often involves Kode With Klossy in her day job. A portion of the proceeds from a 2018 capsule collection of Away luggage by Kloss went to Kode With Klossy. She also promoted the organization while appearing as the face of a Calvin Klein collection for Amazon Fashion.
Kloss was an early adopter of social media in the fashion industry. She was among the first models taking backstage photos and videos for her Instagram account, which she started in 2012, and later for her YouTube channel, Klossy, which she launched in 2015 (it now has 771,000 subscribers). She has about 9.8 million followers on Instagram and roughly 5.5 million on Twitter. “I’ve spent the majority of my life in front of the camera—but not my camera,” she says in her first YouTube video. “And that’s where this is different.” This drives at one of the central tensions of Kloss’s life: The very career that gives her the power to have a voice also often requires that she not talk at all. What she loves about modeling, she says, is being a canvas—collaborating to bring ideas to life. “She appreciates and respects fashion,” says Christy Turlington Burns, “its history and references, [and] she can translate it for wide audiences.”
“You tell a story without words,” says Kloss, who began modeling the summer before seventh grade when a scout spotted her at a local mall. Her freshman year at Missouri’s Webster Groves High School, she walked in a Calvin Klein show the same month school started. At her senior prom, she chose a deep orange Dior dress and stood head and shoulders above her date (Kloss is 6 feet 2 inches), a distinction that was noted by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. It wasn’t so different from this year’s Met Gala, when Kloss wore a red Carolina Herrera minidress with a train and ruffled sleeves. “When I first started, I thought of it as this incredible after-school hobby,” says Kloss, who was typically chaperoned by a family member—or even once, her high school English teacher—on her early trips. “I had a key to the world. [But] I was also balancing my high school work and going to, like, lame Friday-night parties.” A turning point came when she graduated from high school in 2011. Until then, she had assumed she would follow her father’s path as a doctor. (He’s an emergency room physician, and her mother is an art director.) But Kloss had witnessed extended family go through the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis. “I [had] this unique opportunity to make real income right now,” she says, “and be able to support the people that I love in a way that was unprecedented.” She took it.
For years, she wrestled with her decision. “Is this the most important thing I could be doing with my life?” she remembers asking herself. Eventually, she realized that there was a way to harness her growing fame. “I wanted to change how I was using my job and my platform as a model,” she says. She looked to “North Stars,” such as Turlington Burns, who earned a bachelor’s degree from NYU in 1999 and later founded a maternal health nonprofit, Every Mother Counts. “I need to invest in myself in other ways, both in pursuing my education and also building things…that I’m excited about, whether for-profit or nonprofit,” Kloss says. The pandemic period, Kloss says, was an opportunity to reconsider her goals. “In fashion there are no boundaries unless you put them up,” she says, describing constant chaos and travel before Covid hit. “Maybe that was why I was able to get pregnant—for the first time I was taking care of myself.”
After giving birth to Levi, she says her first thought was, “How does everyone do this?” In the beginning, she says she was in survival mode, a state she has recently started to emerge from as Levi nears 9 months. She relies on a circle of peers for advice, including other moms and models, such as Ashley Graham, Emily Ratajkowski and Irina Shayk. “The mom group friendship thing—I was always like, Yeah, that’s cute but that’s not going to be me,” she says. “[Now] I don’t make a move without asking my mom friends.” And motherhood has given her a new self-appreciation. “I love my body in a way that I never have,” she says. “I never imagined that I would have a career [in which] my body would be so intertwined with my success or failure. That’s something that I really don’t like about being a model, but—it’s part of the job. I think it’s really unfortunate that there are still such narrow kinds of ideas [like] you need to be able to fit a sample size. I’m not going to change who I am to fit that.”

Elissa and Sawyer’s Wedding: Who Was On the Guest List?
Yesterday news broke of a private ceremony held for Her Royal Highness Princess Elissa of Rivenia and Sawyer Quinn, eldest son of the Duke of Andale. While Wilhelm Palace had tried to make sure that no press had been alerted, local Glimmerbrook paps had been able to snap shots of some of the guests arriving!
Tumblr media
First up, we have the maid of honor, Eve Quinn, dressed in a lovely, emerald green off-the-shoulder gown that showed off her perfect figure. Her golden locks were swept up into a high ponytail and she kept her jewelry simple with small gold and jade earrings and a teardrop diamond necklace.
The young actress reportedly flew in from the set of her next project in Sulani, rumored to be her first television role. She was recently even spotted staying with her Uncle River and Aunt Amina...the rumors of the family feud ending must certainly be believed now!
Tumblr media
Shockingly, despite the still rocky relationship between Amina and Sawyer Quinn, the best man’s wife Amina and family showed up to attend; in tow were her two eldest children Kaleo and Masina.
Tumblr media
(Above: Amina looked stunning in her mint green Channel dress paired with a lovely black fascinator. For her accessories she wore a pair of antique drop earrings belonging to her mother and her wedding ring.)
The mother of three has been working diligently alongside her older brothers for the family business back in Sulani, Braxton Inc., rarely seen outside of her native country nowadays. She was recently featured in OhSim! Sulani magazine as one of the top ten most wealthy businesswomen in Sulani, with a net-worth of almost five-hundred million simoleons!
Tumblr media
(Above: Masina Quinn wore a pale pink, one-shoulder dress which featured a geometric cut-out along with nude pumps and a white fascinator.)
Despite being a part of one of the wealthiest families in Sulani, Amina’s children live a very down to earth lifestyle. The family lives in a modest, beachfront bungalow with three bedrooms instead of one of the many mega-mansions owned by not only the Braxton family but the Quinn family as well and although all of the children attend an exclusive private school for security reasons, they spend plenty of time amongst the general populace in their free time.
Tumblr media
(Above: River was photographed arriving after his family as Best Man for his older brother; Kaleo looked relaxed in his more casual suit, reportedly a re-wear from his recent high school graduation!)
Both River and Amina encourage their children to partake in various conservation cleanups run by local charities as well as take an interest in giving back to the less fortunate in their city. Their oldest, Kaleo, was known to frequent a local food drive which offers free traditional Sulanian cuisine to Oa’hu’s homeless population while his younger sister, Masina, volunteers at a pro-bono child minding center throughout her summer breaks. The entire family often is spotted participating in local beach clean-ups during their weekends.
Tumblr media
(Above: “Not f–––ing likely,” Mr. Hampton had shouted to a brave reporter who had asked about Nicky’s pending proposal.)
Also in attendance that day were Crown Prince Nicholas of Lunaria and his best friend Elliott Hampton, both of whom we were able to catch sharing a laugh over rumors of Prince Nicky popping the question to someone special sometime soon. Both HRH and Elliott looked suave in their suits –– Nicky in black and Elliott in blue –– as they walked into Dover Chapel as each other’s “dates”.
Tumblr media
It was refreshing to see Their Majesties King Dante and Queen Ashli of Windsor in attendance as well, that afternoon. TM have left most of their foreign visits to their eldest son, Crown Prince Kellan, in a rumored attempt to separate him from his high school sweetheart, Julianna Byrd, an unpopular match in Windsor.
King Dante adorably matched his wife with his blue, pinstriped suit while also showing off a few more gray hairs (possibly from the stress his three sons have been putting him through!). Both were cheerful, though, as they entered the chapel with their oldest daughter, Princess Karissa, in tow.
Not much is known about Princess KiKi nowadays, only that HRH is high achieving in her academic studies and may or may not be dating a foreign royal. The young Princess has recently been photographed most often in Bordeaux where her prestigious boarding school, Sainte Marie International Academy, is located.
Tumblr media
(Above: Queen Ashli looked regal in a slim-cut, royal blue, sleeveless dress and matching strappy heels. She accessorized with her trusty Channel pearl encrusted choker, a pair of pearl and sapphire earrings, and her favorite diamond brooch from the Royal Vault.)
Tumblr media
(Above: Princess KiKi was a vision in red! She wore her chocolate colored locks in their natural waves, pinned back with a matching red “hatband”. From HRH’s designer dress, custom slingback heels, and to her ruby and gold enamel locket, KiKi’s just like her mom –– an expert when it comes to style!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Above: A radiant Duchess of Andale was all smiles yesterday in her lilac dress and pillbox hat. She debuted a beautiful seven-strand pearl necklace that featured a whopping 20-carat diamond as the centerpiece –– a wedding anniversary gift from her husband this year!)
The Duke and Duchess of Andale were also in attendance for the wedding, along with their youngest son, Prince Adrian. The family was all smiles as they entered the chapel while sharing a lively conversation.
The Duke has been busy as of late, helping represent his brother, King Arden, by touring across Lunaria with the Duchess at his side. His busy schedule has apparently been an attempt to keep focus off of the Crown Prince and all of the drama that follows him, although it hasn’t seemed to work all that well if we’re being honest. But, hey, we’re glad to see Rhys and Claire doing so well!
Tumblr media
(Above, left: Prince Adrian is set to finish his final year at Hartfordshire Academy this spring; it’s predicted that he’ll choose to go to UBrite next fall. Right: the Duke of Andale spotted one of our photographers and gave a jovial wave, but didn’t stop to answer any questions.)
Tumblr media
(Above: Princess Diana dressed in a cheery yellow floral dress for the occasion with a matching hat and ribbon heels. She accessorized with tiny diamond earrings and her grandmother’s diamond bow brooch.)
From our very own Rivenian Royals we caught when Crown Princess Diana arrived with her new husband Stefon, the Duke of Ariste, by her side. The two were wed early last year and still have that newlywed glow about them, although rumors have been circulating that it’s really a pregnancy glow for the Crown Princess! If it’s true, no wonder TRHs were smiling so much!
Tumblr media
(Above: While looking a bit gloomy, Elizabeth still dressed to impress in her all-blue ensemble! With her dark hair pulled back in a sleek bun she showed off some new pearl earrings and their matching necklace!)
With the exact opposite countenance, Princess Elizabeth arrived soon after her older sister, bringing an almost tangible cloud of doom and gloom with her. The second in line to Rivenia’s throne has spent most of her time in neighboring Lunaria, diligently working on running the Montgomery Gallery of Classical Arts and seemingly pining for (or dating?) Crown Prince Nicholas. Although, with his previous reaction to our questions about whether or not he’d be proposing...perhaps we already know the reason for the long face she’d shown at her aunt’s wedding.
Tumblr media
(Above: Queen Kirana wore her signature two stranded pearl necklace for the occasion along with gold hoop earrings with delicate pearl drops. Her flowy, off-the-shoulder dress was from a local Rivenian designer and has since sold out of stock.)
The final guests we were able to catch sight of had been none other than Their Majesties the King and Queen of Rivenia themselves! King Grayson was reportedly “unusually excited” to see his younger half sister get married that afternoon.
“He thought she [Elissa] would never settle down to find any happiness,” an insider had shared. “He thought she would work herself to an early grave, cut herself off from the world  and her family.”
It looks like HM has no more need to worry! His younger sister had never looked so blissfully happy than on her wedding day!

A chronology/reading order of Lemony Snicket’s works
The works of Lemony Snicket are often a conglomeration of documents from various sources and authors, frequently presented out of order. The following article intends to better classify the aforementioned documents by determining when they were written, forwarded, read and later made available to the general public (e.g. “us”, the readers).
This list has two purposes:
it can be used as a reading order suggestion for people who may want to experience the narrative in a more chronological manner
it is an attempt to put various events in relation to one another and create a more coherent picture of Lemony’s life, particularly regarding the various documents scattered across Lemony Snicket’s un-Authorized Autobiography and The Beatrice Letters.
Tumblr media
This list is neither official nor to be taken as granted. In order to make sense of the chronology, some arbitrary decisions and interpretations had to be made. If you do not agree with the logic of the chronology, please feel free to express your views in the comments.
A quick reminder on the abbreviations used within this article:
LSUA = Lemony Snicket’s un-Authorized Autobiography
TBL = The Beatrice Letters
FU:13SI = File Under: 13 Suspicious Incidents
For futher references, please also refer to the timeline (Link) whose purpose is to classify events within the series which do not match the creation/publication of a particular document.
More after the cut.
Before “All The Wrong Questions”
An unnamed member of V.F.D. writes a letter to secretary J. regarding the potential recruitment of a young volunteer (LSUA, p.52). The youngster in question is implied to be Daniel Handler himself (according to LSUA’s index).
Lemony meets Beatrice for the first time then sends her an apology note (TBL, LS to BB #1).
During “All The Wrong Questions”
NA (although the supplementary material FU:13SI happens between “When Did You See Her Last?” and “Shouldn’t You Be In School?”).
Between “All The Wrong Questions” and “The Bad Beginning”
Lemony writes to Beatrice about an upcoming expedition (TBL, LS to BB #2).
The official V.F.D. disguise kit manual is written (LSUA, pp.99-108). The recruitment guide (LSUA, pp.189-191) could also have been written at the same time. NB: the disguise kit manual and the recruitment could actually be much older than that. However the disguise kit manual mentions sugar bowls, which implies that it would have been written at around the same time period as the earliest mentions of the sugar bowl (first vineyard letter, LSUA, pp.84-86, see below). Note that sugar bowls are never mentioned in “All The Wrong Questions”, which seems VFD’s obsession with the sugar bowl only started after Lemony graduated and became a dramatic critic.
Lemony writes to Beatrice to warn her that he will soon be appointed as dramatic critic for the “Daily Punctillo” (TBL, LS to BB #3).
Beatrice writes a poem hidden inside the booklet of her play (TBL, last pages) but Lemony fails to notice it.
Lemony writes to Beatrice to schedule a date where he plans to ask her hand in marriage (TBL, LS to BB #4).
Lemony writes a letter regarding his childhood memories to Dr. Charley Patton ( LSUA, pp.8-21) before his intended marriage to Beatrice. An unidentified person will later make notes to this letter, remarking on inconsistencies in Lemony’s testimony.
Lemony writes a scathing review of Olaf’s new play (LSUA, p.77-79), also announcing his upcoming marriage to Beatrice.
Jacques (who is currently working inside the Queequeg) learns of Lemony’s review and writes his brother a letter, telling him 1) to go to Damocles Dock in order to plan his exile, 2) not to contact Beatrice ever again. He also mentions that Lemony should expect to get fired from the Daily Punctillo very soon.
The next day, Eleonora publishes a retractation and announces Lemony is fired (LSUA, p.80). She also announces the beginning of a new column by Geraldine Julienne.
The same week, Lemony manages to slip his rebuttal to Eleonora’s retractation into a morning edition of the newspaper (LSUA, p.81). Eleonora submits a second retraction in the evening edition (LSUA, p.82) and confirms that Geraldine’s column is scheduled to begin the next day.
The Vineyard of Flagrant Drapes writes a letter to Lemony, urging him to cancel the wedding as Olaf plans to crash it (LSUA, pp.84-86). This letter is later acquired by the Duchess of Winnipeg somehow.
After the debacle, Lemony is forced to hide in a VFD headquarter. During that time, the (real?) Captain S. writes instructions to Lemony so he can escape from the country on the Prospero (LSUA, pp.109-111), remarking on Lemony’s firing, and includes tickets with the letter (LSUA, pp.112-113). This letter and the tickets are sent to Larry in Damocles Dock so he can give them to Lemony when he gets there.
A crisis meeting is held with different members of VFD. J., the secretary, writes a live transcript of this meeting (LSUA, pp.33-47). It appears that the “J.” and “K.” characters present at the meeting are not Jacques and Kit, although Daniel Handler appears to be there. Several photographs (LSUA, pp.48-51) will later be added to this transcript. Olaf and Esme crash the meeting, threatening to light it on fire unless the volunteers agree with their demands.
After the meeting, the volunteers have no safe place left in the vicinity. Lemony has nowhere to go. He receives a break-up letter from Beatrice, brought to him by carrier pigeons, and answers back with a coded letter regarding her co-star’s possible duplicity (TBL, LS to BB #5).
Lemony then supposedly receives Jacques’ letter around that time and goes to Damocles Dock. Larry gives Lemony the Captain’s letter and the tickets.
A photograph of the ship is taken on the day it leaves port (LSUA, p.91). The Daily Punctillo publishes an article about the ship’s mysterious departure (LSUA, pp.93-95).
Lemony writes to Beatrice to warn her of an upcoming danger (TBL, LS to BB #6). It seems likely that this message was sent some time before Sunny’s birth but there’s also an argument for Violet’s and Klaus’.
During “The Bad Beginning”
As soon as her learns about the Baudelaire fire, Lemony dispatches Brett Helquist to draw the scene of the crime. Helquist draws the smoldering remains of the Baudelaire mansion and writes a letter to Lemony with said drawings enclosed   (LSUA, pp.182-183). He plans to discuss both documents at the Valorous Farm Dairy where a meeting with Lemony Snicket and photographer Meredith Heuer has been set.
Lemony writes an early draft of the first chapter of “The Bad Beginning” (LSUA, pp.177-178). Babs later receives this early draft and writes a note to Hal (LSUA, p.176) so he can add it to the Snicket file. Lemony also writes a letter to his sister (LSUA, p.192) announcing his intention to write a book on the Baudelaire case.
Between “The Bad Beginning” and “The Reptile Room”
The new dramatic critic of the Daily Punctillo (not Lemony) writes a scathing review of Al Funcoot’s play. Enraged that Olaf is being criticized, Esme writes to Geraldine Julienne to pressure Eleonora Poe into firing the dramatic critic, as well as to enquire about Jerome Squalor’s habits. The critic is fired by Eleronora Poe. Geraldine answers Esme’s letter (LSUA, p.119-120), confirming the new critic’s firing, with a menu of the restaurant at which Jerome usually eats (LSUA, p.121).
Gustav Sebald writes a movie script to warn Montgomery Montgomery of his new assistant and of the survivor of the Baudelaire fire (LSUA, pp.61-65).
The movie is shot. A photograph of a toddler helping Gustav build the snowman is taken, with Gustav not actually appearing in the picture as he was hidden behind the snowman (LSUA, p.71). A photograph of the actor playing Young Rölf is later taken (LSUA, p.53 and p.57). Other miscellaneous pictures of the production are taken during that time (LSUA, p.68, p.69, p.70).
Lemony realizes that Montgomery Montgomery does not know the Sebald code and that the plan needs to be changed. He schedules a meeting with Gustav Sebald near the Swarthy Swamp. On his way to the meeting, Gustav is spotted by Olaf who drowns him.
Lemony arrives at the appointment and waits nineteen hours for Gustav Sebald in the Swarthy Swamp. To pass the time, he writes a letter to the cheesemakers (LSUA, pp.55-60). Lemony is unaware that Gustav is actually already there, drowned at the bottom of the swamp.
Between “The Reptile Room” and “The Wide Window”
A review of “Zombies in the Snow” by Lena Pukalie (an anagram of real-life film critic Pauline Kael) is published (LSUA, p.165) and finds its way to Lemony’s commonplace book.
During “The Wide Window”
A photograph of the Baudelaire orphans on Damocles Dock is taken by a mysterious person. Two copies of this photograph later end up in possession of K./R. (who later sends it to Olivia Caliban a.k.a Madame Lulu).
Between “The Wide Window” and “The Miserable Mill”
Jacques Snicket visits Olivia Caliban at Caligari Carnival and asks her if his brother is alive. She gives him a copy of the photograph which R. sent to her, indicating that Lemony may be currently tracking down the Baudelaire orphans from his taxi. Jacques leaves to investigate Dr. Montgomery’s house as he knows that a book on the secret Mortmain Mountains is kept there. When he arrives, he is surprised to find Quigley. Jacques gives his copy of the photograph to Quigley.
Olaf’s henchmen kill Firstein in Paltryville, intent on replacing him with the Bald Man under the pseudonym of Flacutono. They use the the lumbermill’s machines to destroy Firstein’s remains.  Jacques learns of Firstein’s death and leaves for Paltryville, instructing Quigley to stay behind. In Paltryville, Jacques manages to send his investigation to the Daily Punctillo for an article. But Jacques is discovered by Olaf’s agents and has to flee. Because the body parts are unindentifiable, Detective Smith covers up the murder as the accidental death of an unknown person. Sir does not explain his foreman’s sudden disappearance to the workers. The Daily Punctillo uses Smith’s version for its final version of the article (LSUA, p.118). An earlier edition of Jacques’ article did survive (LSUA, p.117).
Jerome and Esme spend an evening together, at the end of which Esme bullies Jerome into marrying her.
Jerome schedules a wedding at the Vineyard of Flagrant Grapes where Esme hopes to receive the sugar bowl (perhaps because she expects Jacques to attend his friend’s wedding). The vineyard writes back, confirming the wedding but declining Esme’s request (LSUA, pp.84-86). Somehow the Duchess of Winnipeg later manages to get her hand on this letter. Jerome also sends a wedding invitation to Jacques Snicket. Fernald starts working as a doorman at 667 Dark Avenue in order to intercept any letter Jerome may be supposed to receive.
The Duchess fears that keeping the two vineyard letters is no longer safe for her. Unaware that Isaac Anwhistle is dead, she writes a letter to Kit Snicket, asking her to archive the two vineyard letters (LSUA, p.83).
Jacques finds out that Esme plans to marry Jerome in order to access the old V.F.D headquarter at 667 Dark Avenue. Fearing the worst, he writes Jerome a letter (LSUA, pp.122-124), but the wedding happened so quickly that Jerome was probably already married by the time Jacques found out about his engagement. Sometime during Jerome’s and Esme’s honeymoon, Jacques’ letter is intercepted by Fernald who works as a disguised doorman. Fernald and Olaf’s allies analyze Jacques’ letter and find out the village where he is hiding.
Between “The Miserable Mill” and “The Austere Academy”
An unnamed person adds a photograph of the Quagmire triplets (with a note) to the “Zombies in the snow” file in the Sebald archives (LSUA, p.70). This is because the movie was made for Montgomery Montgomery and Quigley Quagmire eventually escaped from his childhood home to Montgomery’s house.
Lemony Snicket writes Sally Sebald to inform her of Georgina Orwell’s death. Sally answers, informing him of the circumstances in which the survivor of the Baudelaire fire was hidden (LSUA, pp.66-71). Sally also finds the photograph of the Quagmire triplets inside the file and does not understand what it’s doing there. Lemony will later replace the photograph of the triplets with a photograph of people “around the same age”.
During “The Austere Academy”
At this point in time, first editions of “The Bad Beginning” and “The Reptile” apparently already exist. We see excerpts of these two books later on in other documents. This edition finds its way to a library which has recently been overtaken by the tweed-coat-wearing librarian. This is a contentious topic as “The Reptile Room” mentions Klaus and Violet reflecting on its events “years later” even though only a few months/weeks have passed at the time of the book’s publication. One can only assume that these passages are either:
the result of Lemony making reasonable assumptions on Klaus’ and Violet’s future,
additions which Lemony made years later as he kept updating the books with new details of his investigations (in which case what we, the readers, are reading is not the first edition of the book read by Al Funcoot’s fan, bur rather a later edition). This is plausible because “The Bad Beginning” got an updated edition called “The Bad Beginning: Rare Edition” with additional notes regarding Lemony’s more recent findings on the events depicted in the book.
Al Funcoot (probably Olaf under a pen name) writes to one of his fans, ordering him to investigate the fate of Montgomery’s collection of reptiles. The henchman goes to his local library and reads excerpts of “The Reptile Room” (LSUA, pp.147-148).
The henchman (now disguised as a cow) roams the surrounding of Lousy Lane, looking for survivors of Montgomery’s collection. The henchman noticeably hears the Dissonant Toad who is repeating something he once heard Olaf say. Supposedly the comment made by Olaf on how incovenient it is to drown someone happened the night of Monty’s murder. The toad was in the Reptile Room that night and heard Olaf kill Montgomery, after which he wondered aloud how he was going to dispose of the body. The henchman disguised as a cow also spots the Mamba du Mal as well as other reptiles. The henchman later reaches the Valorous Farm Dairy but does not dare approach the location.
The henchman disguised a cow sends Al Funcoot his own report of the events (LSUA, pp.145-153). The information from his report will later be used by Olaf’s allies to find and kill the survivors of Montgomery’s collection. Only the Incredibly Deadly Viper is now safe for now at the Valorous Farm Dairy.
Growing frustrated with his unsuccessful hunt for the Incredibly Deadly Viper, the henchman disguised as a cow finally works up the courage to ask the cheesemakers about the reptiles. Suspecting his ill intentions, the cheesemakers immediately write a postcard to Lemony so he can be warned that Olaf’s henchmen are looking for reptiles near the Valorous Farm Dairy (LSUA, pp.155-156).
Lemony writes a letter to the Duchess, announcing his intention to attend her Masked Ball (LSUA, p.144) even though the survivors of Montgomery’s collection are being hunted.
Supposedly the events of the Masked Ball happen soon after (Lemony flashes back to the Masked Ball in the beginning of the eleventh chapter of “The Austere Academy”). After the Masked Ball, Coach Genghis arrives at Prufrock Prep (fourth chapter of “The Austere Academy”).
Between “The Austere Academy” and “The Ersatz Elevator”
Jerome, who never received Jacques’ letter, writes Jacques to announce Esme their plans to adopt some children (LSUA, p.125).
Quigley, growing impatient, reads an article of “The Daily Punctillo” which describes his siblings’ kidnapping. He leaves for Paltryville.
Jerome writes a letter to Jacques Snicket, lamenting the fact his friend wasn’t present at his wedding (LSUA, p.125). Esme is planning to acquire the custody of the Baudelaire orphans during that time.
During that time, the tweed-coat-wearing librarian seems to change jobs as he now works at Prufrock Prep. Carmelita Spats runs into him, which earns him an appareance in her autobiography (LSUA, p.171).
During “The Ersatz Elevator”
The Duchess (or somebody impersonating her) writes a letter to Lemony (LSUA, pp.25-28). This letter was supposedly written during the “first few days” that the Baudelaire orphans spent with Esme and Jerome at 667 Dark Avenue (mentioned in Chapter Three of “The Ersatz Elevator”), before Gunther’s arrival.
At the In auction, the Esme Squalor fan club bids on the corpse of the Mamba du Mal. This is reported by the In Auction catalog (LSUA, p.164) and Lemony includes a page of the catalog in his commonplace book.
Lemony sends the cheesemakers a note (LSUA, p.159) with the contents of his commonplace book (LSUA, pp.161-175). The excerpts contained in the commonplace book are intended to warn the cheesemakers of the reptiles of montgomery’s collection and the secret messages/codes they can communicate. One of the excerpts is a newspaper describing how the Mamba du Mal was killed and auctioned.
At the Valorous Farm Dairy, the meeting planned by Meredith, Brett and Lemony goes haywire as they have been spotted by the villain disguised as a cow. The dairy is burned down by the villain but Meredith manages to take one last photograph of the dairy before the fire (LSUA, p.185). The three volunteers flee. Lemony leaves a copy of his drawing of the burned down Baudelaire mansion behind in the commotion.
Detective Smith covers up the arson when reporters of the Daily Punctillo come to investigate the fire. He provides the reporters with Brett’s drawing, unaware that it actually concerns the Baudelaire mansion. The drawing may have ended up in the archives of the Daily Punctillo. The Daily Punctillo publishes an article on the “accident” (LSUA, p.184).
During “The Vile Village”
Lemony receives the suspicious letter from the Duchess at Veblen Hall while he’s interviewing witnesses about who was driving the car on the day the Quagmire triplets were smuggled out of the city by Olaf. He fears that someone may be impersonating the Duchess and writes a note about it (LSUA, p.30).
While the Baudelaire orphans are working at the Village of Fowl Devotees, Arthur Poe meets his sister Eleonora Poe in Damocles Dock. Their conversation is recorded by a mysterious individual (LSUA, pp.134-137). The transcript of the recording is later found by an unnamed individual.
During “The Hostile Hospital”
Olaf (under the alias of Al Funcoot) knows that the Baudelaire orphans are probably somewhere in the Hinterlands and that they’ll soon try to use a telephone or a telegram machine. In order to thwart them, he writes to Eleonora Poe under the alias of Al Funcoot, convincing her to publish articles about the danger of telephone poles and fake telegrams, and later writes to an unnamed person about said article. Esme also manages to phone/write Geraldine Julienne, ordering her to lock up Eleonora Poe once the articles are published.
Eleonora writes to Arthur Poe, warning him of the danger of fake telegrams. The telegram sent by the Baudelaire orphans in the Last Chance General Store (LSUA, p.140) reaches Arthur’s bank some time later and is as such ignored.
During "The Carnivorous Carnival”
While the Baudelaire orphans try to use the phone at Caligari Carnival, the unnamed person chops down the telephone poles. This ends the connection, leaving the Baudelaire orphans confused as to why the person on the other end isn’t responding anymore. Later on, the unnamed person writes back to “Al Funcoot” (LSUA, p.132-133), thanking him for the article.
Kit roams the financial district looking for scraps of newspapers. She writes a note about that to the cheesemakers (LSUA, letter on pp.75-76). The note and the scraps of newspapers are later found by an unknown person (LSUA, note to file on p.75).
During “The Slippery Slope”
Geraldine Julienne locks up Eleonora in the basement of the Daily Punctillo’s building. Eleonora sends a telegram to her brother (LSUA, p.141), but the message is ignored by Arthur Poe on the account of her article.
During “The Grim Grotto”
As he’s following the Baudelaire orphans’ footsteps, Lemony writes a letter to his sister Kit Snicket, instructing her to meet him at the Hotel Denouement, and slips it into the pages of the manuscript (end of Chapter Five) of “The Slippery Slope”. It’s extremely unlikely Kit ever received the manuscript as she seems to believe her brother is dead in “The End”. Indeed the V.F.D. meeting scheduled at Hotel Denouement happens during “The Penultimate Peril”, which would leave barely a day for said manuscript to be forwarded to Kit. One can only assume that the letter was kept within the manuscript and never removed (for sentimental reasons?). Interestingly the letter does not specify a date and “Hotel Denouement” could refer to the underground library beneath the pond rather than the building on the surface, which means that said meeting could have been scheduled much later than the building’s eventual destruction.
Arthur Poe sends a thank-you letter to Eleonora (LSUA, pp.138-139), including the two telegrams he received (LSUA, pp.140-141).
During “The End”
Remora slips on a banana peel and quits his job at Prufrock Prep. Kit Snicket is hired to replace him and teaches at Prufrock Preparatory School for a few days. This supposedly happens during the “days” the Baudelaire orphans live with the Islanders doing pretty much nothing on the Island (this undefined time period is described in Chapter Five of “The End). A photograph (LSUA, p. 127 and p. 142) is taken of Kit “supervizing” the children during gym class. Genghis and Tench no longer teach at Prufrock, so without anyone to teach them the Prufrock students just sit around looking at a camera during their gym class. During that time, Kit also seems to write a note (LSUA, p.154) about receiving the postcard intended for Lemony by the Prufrock librarian.
The Daily Punctillo publishes an article warning parents about their children reading forbidden books. The Spats parents send that article to Nero who subsequently fires Kit Snicket and writes back to the Spats parents in gratitude (LSUA, pp.129-131).
After “Chapter Fourteen”
Lemony eventually publishes an updated edition of “The Bad Beginning” with additional notes (The Bad Beginning: Rare Edition) in which he announces his intention to release the thirteenth and final volume of “A Series Of Unfortunate Events”.
Lemony is officially declared by the authorities. The Daily Punctillo publishes an official declaration of death, announcing a burial even though no body was identified (LSUA, p.3, see also the back cover with Lemony’s note). Lemony attends his own burial where photographs are taken (LSUA, p.4 and p.7). Lemony writes a note to explain the photograph and the Daily punctillo clipping and adds it to the Autobiography file (LSUA, pp.5-7).
Beatrice Baudelaire Jr eventually learns of his uncle and his research on the Baudelaire file. She starts tracking him down and sends him several letters (TBL, BB to LS #1, #2, #3, #4 and #5). Lemony does not answer these letters as he believes the author of these letters to be Esme impersonating Beatrice Baudelaire Sr.
Beatrice Baudelaire Jr eventually meet in person at a party. During the party, Beatrice Baudelaire Jr writes her uncle an apology note (TBL, BB to LS #6). Daniel Handler later writes about this party (LSUA, pp. ix-xvii and p.193) and the autobiography is finally published.
Lemony decides to publish the letters of both Beatrices and writes a letter to his editor (TBL, foreword). The final volume of “A Series of Unfortunate Events” (including “Chapter Fourteen”, which seems to have been written conjointly with Beatrice Baudelaire Jr) and “The Beatrice Letters” are then published.
