Today is Black Femme Character Dependency's 3rd Year!!!

A History: Funny enough, it began for friends. I was one of the oldest people in the Henry Danger fandom and had a lot of Black friends there who, when the show ended felt like the Black female character hadn't really gotten what they wanted out of the finale, but I was more concerned about if we'd still gather and stuff if we didn't have any common fandom to unite through.

After a few conversations about Black female characters in general (and us not having too many fandoms all in common), I decided that I'd make this space as a gift to my friends where they would be able to have Black female and feminine characters collected in one safe space to reblog or discuss without having to worry much about fandom racism or "colorblindness."

So frequently, some of the things I reblog are not of fandoms I'm a part of because its stuff that friends asked for, and I do the drudging through tags to find rebloggable content for them.

Then so many other people began to follow, which is pretty dope, though at the end of the day, it's still a place where me and my homies can have things that pertain to these types of characters that are often widely overlooked or underappreciated within their fandom spaces.

I copy and pasted my response from messages between myself and a follower. I thought today could be the perfect day to answer this question for anybody who wishes to know.

Fic Posted: Family Meeting

“Family meeting. Not optional,” Rachel announces and Bass finds himself hovering in place, waiting for her to kick him out, remind him that he’s not a Matheson, no matter how much he might want to be.

But she doesn’t, in fact Connor barely gets halfway to the door before she barks, “Stop. You too.”

“Since when are we family?” his son questions, but he sits back down anyway, draping one arm over the back of the couch as he flops down next to Charlie.

There’s a casualness to Conner that he certainly can’t take credit for, and definitely didn’t come from Emma. It annoys Bass, a reminder of how his son grew up he supposes, but it also feels familiar. Miles has always had that knack for looking like he doesn’t give a fuck, no matter how much Bass knows better.

Speaking of Miles.

“What is this about, Rachel?” Miles asks, sounding like he’d rather be anywhere than here. So, like he does most of the time.

“There’s something that I have to tell all of you, about Charlie, about who her real- her biological father is.”

There we go, Bass thinks, that shoe is finally going to drop, that Charlie is Miles’ not Ben’s. It is not like they haven’t all thought it more than once.

“What are you talking about, mom?” Charlie sounds upset, confused. Okay. Maybe there is one person in this room that never put two and two together.

"coaxing?" she snorted, rolling her eyes. she'd seen guys like him run game plenty of time, and she knew more often than not, it was a lot of big talk and very little action. "sounds almost...predatory," she replied, tilting her head to the side as she looked up at him. she wasn't immune to how close he was, his body just slightly too far to be in her space, but close enough.

she laid a hand on his chest, her dark tipped nails scratching lightly against the fabric of his shirt; "see, i'm a girl who needs to be wooed," she told him, smiling up at him almost innocently. "i like a man who knows what he wants, and isn't afraid to get it. someone who grabs what they want as soon as they get close enough." her fingers tightened their grip in his shirt, pulling him down just enough to let her lips brush against his ear. "and if you're questioning my hunger, brett," she murmured, "then maybe you should test it out for yourself."

brett's lips twisted into a sly smile that hinted at far more than amusement. the flash of her defiance lit him up in all the right ways, igniting that delicious burn of a challenge he couldn't resist. he let his gaze rake down her frame, unapologetic and brazen, then back up to meet her challenging gaze. she was holding her ground, he liked that. his kind of woman was always one with thorns.

"you're cute when you think you're giving orders," he drawled, his voice laced with honeyed condescension. brett stepped closer, closing some of that charged distance between them, though not all of it—never all of it. a chase needed room to breathe.

"see, the thing is," he began smoothly, tilting his head as he studied her, "i don't do 'chase.' not really my style. i like… coaxing." he cocked an eyebrow at her then, daring her to question. confidence emanated from him like heat from a flame; there was no hesitation in his stance. "you know, drawing someone in until they come willingly. the game's a lot sweeter when both sides are hungry, don't you think?"
