people have talked about Tulip and Jesse meeting which would be fun, but how about Lake and Mikayla?

I still like the idea Tulip and Lake eventually reunite on good terms with themselves and form an actual friendship, so they could meet through that. And Lake called Tulip out for ignoring Mikayla’s texts, so that would suggest they thought positively of her, at least as a friend for Tulip. But maybe they could get along once the whole thing got explained

Because my only Jesslake/Book 2 brainrotting recently has been of the angsty variety (as can be seen by my previous posts), I'd like to propose a wholesome AU this time around: DND.

Not like, they're actually IN the game, they just play it together.

Mikayla loves DND and she decided to invite Tulip and her sibling to one of her games. Jesse was also there, as Mikayla had invited another person he was sorta kinda friends with. Lake doesn't know they're NB yet.

Lake decides to make a male knight character, and everyone says they need a healer so naturally that's what Jesse plays. At first Lake doesn't care, they don't even really know who they agreed to their twin's nerd shit. But little by little they start to get more attached to the game and to their character. They start to really enjoy who he is and the sort of rampant individualism he stands for despite still being an honorable knight. The character gets the reputation in the party for being a little reckless but ultimately reliable, which means Jesse's character has to stay near him A LOT because Lake keeps making him charge into battle with much gusto and little caution.

What REALLY brings Jesse's attention to them is when Lake so clearly falls in love with a random deer that was following them. Jesse did as well, and they brought it into the party and named it Alan Dracula (much to Lake's chagrin).

Because of the campaign, Jesse starts talking to Lake a lot outside of the game. Lake didn't usually have someone like that, who would talk to them and check in with them a lot. They talk about the characters and the story and game mechanics, and both of them get very passionate about it with each other.

Then the friend Jesse joined the campaign with started acting like a huge jerk, and Jesse kept defending him, which earned some scorn from Lake. However before long Jesse realized no one at the table was having fun as long as he was around, so he told him off, and Mikayla finally kicked him out of the table. For being someone who loved to fit in, doing something like that took guts, which Lake noted.

Lake had been playing as this guy for a while, and it only took so long for them to realize they felt the same about being called a guy as they did a girl, which caused them to do some soul searching. They came out to Jesse as NB first because over the months of playing and talking they knew he would be the least judgmental, and of course he was very supportive.

That's it. No angsty twist. Just kids bonding over a game.

Today is Black Femme Character Dependency's 3rd Year!!!

A History: Funny enough, it began for friends. I was one of the oldest people in the Henry Danger fandom and had a lot of Black friends there who, when the show ended felt like the Black female character hadn't really gotten what they wanted out of the finale, but I was more concerned about if we'd still gather and stuff if we didn't have any common fandom to unite through.

After a few conversations about Black female characters in general (and us not having too many fandoms all in common), I decided that I'd make this space as a gift to my friends where they would be able to have Black female and feminine characters collected in one safe space to reblog or discuss without having to worry much about fandom racism or "colorblindness."

So frequently, some of the things I reblog are not of fandoms I'm a part of because its stuff that friends asked for, and I do the drudging through tags to find rebloggable content for them.

Then so many other people began to follow, which is pretty dope, though at the end of the day, it's still a place where me and my homies can have things that pertain to these types of characters that are often widely overlooked or underappreciated within their fandom spaces.

I copy and pasted my response from messages between myself and a follower. I thought today could be the perfect day to answer this question for anybody who wishes to know.

PART ONE - ROUND TWO

"I don't know if I can do this." Mikayla muttered, staring down at the script she had. She'd read it a dozen times already.

Practiced in the mirror, with Tulip, and sometimes alone in the silence of her room. It should be muscle memory. Theoretically. But stage fright could get the better of her. She wouldn't be surprised.

In fact, she was expecting it. She'd embarrassed herself before. The memory haunting her every time she considered trying out for a bigger speaking role. Or a role in general. She wasn't sure she could handle a flub like that again.

"Of course you can do this! You've been practicing all week- you've been dying to do this since elmentary school!" Tulip waved her arms around emphatically.

"You can't back out now!"

Which yeah. She couldn't. Mikayla would bully herself for the rest of eternity if she did, but that didn't help her calm down.

"I know, I know- this is just. A lot to take in." She gave a stuttery breathe. Her eyes traced the words on the script. Reading, but not really seeing.

"And it'll be even better once you're really out there in the stage." Tulip made a grand gesture with her arm, swooping wide as if to encompass some unseen stage before her.

"And I'll take tons of pictures." She added, proudly. Mikayla couldn't help but smile at Tulip's certainty. It didn't, however, leave her nearly as convinced.

"Thanks Tulip, but-"

"Mikayla! Are you ready?"

Another student peeked through the curtains. Waving Mikayla over urgently. "You're up next!"

"Ah."

Tulip placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "You'll do great."

"You shouldn't congratulate me before I perform, it's bad luck." Mikayla mumbled, not bothering to brush aside Tulip's hand. Even though she knew she needed to hurry up and get on stage. She couldn't help but procrastinate up to the last second.

Tulip seemed thoughtful. She didn't really believe in all that stuff. Good luck or bad luck- but ahe knew Mikayla did. "Then maybe this will counteract it."

She leaned close, pressing a kiss to Mikayla's cheek before pushing her lightly in the direction of the stage. "Break a leg!"

Mikayla was dragged past the curtain by the other student who'd been impatiently waiting, and found herself the center of attention. All eyes on her.

It didn't feel so scary anymore.
