Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy and the forces of Serendipity have conspired to gift me with the completely unexpected chance to see THE HU live tomorrow night at the Moda Center in Portland!

You see, my housemates have two tickets to see Iron Maiden tomorrow but turns one of them can't make it so she asked me if I wanted her ticket (knowing my answer would almost certainly be no).

I was in fact about to say no cuz metal generally isn't for me but she mentioned "oh and some Mongolian band is opening for them, I think they're called Hu or something"

And my eyes all wide I say WTF YOU MEAN THE HU OMG!", shocking both her and her husband that I actually knew about this band they'd never heard of, loved their music (metal blended with traditional Mongolian instruments & throat singing), and am willing to go out of the house for a concert especially on a work night.

The ticket is the serendipity part; the TMS part (36 sessions, final one was last Friday) is the significant improvements that have relieved my severe chronic depression and social anxiety enough that I can actually leave the house like this on short notice with less fear and reluctance.

I might duck out after the HU have finished their set so I won't be out so much later than my bedtime, but I'm delighted such a spontaneous evening out is no longer unthinkable to me.

Also, too, THE HU!!

Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad & Oasis

Conhecem o anime e mangá Beck? Escrito por Harold Sakuishi, Beck conta a história da construção e ascensão de uma banda de rock.

Foi originalmente serializado na Monthly Shōnen Magazine de 1999 a 2008, com os 103 capítulos posteriormente publicados em 34 volumes tankōbon pela Kodansha. Foi adaptado para uma série de anime de 26 episódios, intitulada Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad, pela Madhouse e foi ao ar na TV Tokyo de outubro de 2004 a março de 2005.

Uma adaptação live-action para os cinemas foi lançada em 2010 e estrelada por Takeru Satoh (o ator ficou mundialmente conhecido por protagonizar os live actions de Samurai X/Rurouni Kenshin) como o protagonista Koyuki. A série também gerou três data books, quatro trilhas sonoras, um videogame e uma linha de guitarras no Japão.

O mangá é extremamente influenciado por bandas reais, toda capa de capítulo faz alusão a capa de algum álbum ou single musical. Uma das bandas mais presentes na obra é o Oasis, que é referenciado quase o tempo todo no anime e no mangá.

No live action lançado em 2010, a música Don't Look Back In Anger faz parte a trilha-sonora do filme.

Beck foi bastante popular nos anos 2000 e é até hoje uma grande referência de mangá com temática musical.

Apesar do mangá já ter sido concluído, nunca foi feito uma segunda temporada do anime.

Outra influência clara do Oasis é na trilha-sonora feita para o anime. Algumas músicas parecem tanto com Oasis dos anos 90 (como Slip Out) que poderia ter sido escrita pelo Noel Gallagher!

Se o Oasis pôde voltar, quem sabe se o anime também não possa voltar em 2025?

If you're not on GORILLAZ (the band), Imma put you on. 20 years later, almost 30 (as of 2023), they're still slaying.

In case I wasn't enough as to which song is in my top 3.

They always do this to me, I sleep on them for a few months and they make a new banger to remind me why they're S-Tier.

ALRIGHT, i get it.

If you ease up on the vibin, and really listen to what they're saying in a lot of these songs, especially their recent ones. This band really be trying teach you something, If I was paranoid, I'd even say some of their darker songs are trying to wise us up to an extent to things going on, a warning.

but i'm not, so i won't. Enjoy the hits.

My anime of the week.

If you ever checked out The Prince of Tennis sometimes down the line way back, it’s something like that. Except it’s football. This is pretty awesome. Weather if you’re a sports fan or not, I think you’re going to love this. For all you can watch 12 ep’s of anime. Another week of series, another beautiful moment. And yeah, beautiful OST along it’s way.

After I finished viewing that, I’d immediately checked out the 1st ep of this being wanting to be a guitarist and get awesome on it. Also featured playing in a band. I’m really blown away. I got a feeling this will be hard sugoi.

The title is “Given”. Which reminds me, I actually need to resume Beck Mongolian Chop Squad. It’s literally been a decade that I’ve been putting that on hold as one of my backlog.
