Namor is way cooler than Aquaman, to me. Aquaman was usually always more of a traditional hero, back in the 50s and 60s. But Namor always had an extra anti-hero flair to him. Namor acts the way I'd expect a Prince of Atlantis to act: he's regal and noble, but his allegiance is to Atlantis above all else. The surface-dwellers have only ever oppressed his people, so why should he help them!? Namor will do what he must for his people. If that means he occasionally helps the land dwellers, so be it.

Really, Marvel/Bill Everett may have just had a cleverer premise with Namor than DC/Mort Weisinger and Paul Norris had with Aquaman. Also, marvel created Namor two years before Aquaman! It's almost like aquaman could've been seen as a worse rip-off... And hell, if DC could sue Fawcett over Captain Marvel being too similar to Superman, Marvel should've sued DC for any number of infractions. Starting here. But I can discuss that sometime later.

Submariner Summer 27

Hello friends, time for #SubmarinerSummer part 27, and we are reading Tales to Astonish #93: The Monarch And The Monster! Hulk clashes with Silver Surfer on the cover. Title page puts us right in the fight of Navy vs Namor vs IT. And look...a certain Roy Thomas now scripts

The sub's torpedo causes a rockslide; Namor deftly avoids it, but IT does not. Believing his foe crushed, Namor heads for the sub, but he is very wrong.

As IT rises from under the rubble, Namor finds he can't bring himself to just destroy the sub. Instead he damages it to try and force their retreat, causing panic in the crew inside who thought the radioactive IT was Namor

IT now returns to the fray, so Namor punches IT in the face, because that's how he do. However, he's starting to get weaker though he doesn't know why, but we do: IT's radioactivity is starting to poison Namor. And as he weakens, IT counterattacks

Though quickly getting desperately weak, Namor manages to dodge a full-strength lunge from IT, causing IT to collide with the sub and crash through! The crew peeps IT, realizing their enemy WASN'T Namor. Namor though barely manages to get off the sub as it surfaces, near death

Once in the deep and away from IT, he recovers enough to swim again, just in time to avoid a giant octopus. NOT TODAY, OCTOPUS. He returns to Atlantis essentially victorious, and gets medical treatment for his radiation poisoning.

However, having clashed with the U.S. Navy after it crossed into his territory and caused havoc yet again, Namor has finally had enough. It's time to DO something about it: it's time for a Council of WAR! And thus ends this issue!

A high-octane battle issue, with a couple fun turns, and Adkins still doing a good job on art. Roy Thomas slid in smoothly into Stan's slot, a specialty of his, and this won't be the last time he gets his hands on the sea prince. So all in all, really good stuff.

Is the spiritual person a conspiracy theorist? A list of red flags

They talk about a shadowy group of people supposedly manipulating everything behind the scenes. They might refer to them by terms such as globalists, bankers, international bankers, secret rulers of the world, the elite, the cabal, Kabbalists, Talmudists, satanists, satanic pedophiles, pedophiles, generational satanists, satanic bloodlines, the Illuminati, the Babylonian Brotherhood, lizard people, Reptilians, Orions, regressives, regressive entities, Khazarians, Marxists, cultural Marxists, or leftists. Sometimes, very rarely, they'll just come right out and say "Jews."

They claim that the conspiracy has been working to conceal historical and spiritual truths from humanity.

They claim that the conspiracy uses stuff like food, entertainment, and medicine to control the masses. For example, "additives in food suppress our psychic abilities" or "Hollywood films contain subliminal messages" or "COVID vaccines were actually created to alter your DNA to make you more docile."

Also, claims that the conspiracy controls people via spiritual or technological implants, 5G, or alter programming, with or without explicit mention of Project Monarch (a conspiracy theory promoted by far right cranks such as Mark Philips and Fritz Springmeier, who used hypnosis to respectively convince Cathy O'Brien and Cisco Wheeler that they'd been put under mind control by a global satanic conspiracy).

They claim that this conspiracy is controlling the media, has fingers in every institution they disagree with, and is generally behind everything they disagree with. (EG, the conspiracy created the Catholic Church; that other New Ager they disagree with is actually controlled opposition, etc.)

They claim that the conspiracy is trying to keep people in fear.

They claim that the conspiracy harvests something from people. Blood and adrenochrome are common ones. Loosh is somewhat less common. Expect to see something else pop up eventually.

They claim that the conspiracy practices genetic engineering; EG, creating animal/human hybrids, using vaccines to genetically sever people's connection to God, etc.

They claim that true spiritual wisdom can be traced back to places like Atlantis, Lemuria, or Mu.

They claim that world governments have secretly been in contact with extraterrestrials for years.

They appeal to known frauds and cranks, including but not limited to Erich Von Daniken, Zechariah Sitchin, David Icke, David Wilcock, Graham Hancock, Jaime Maussan, Bob Lazar, Steven Greer, Richard C. Hoagland, Fritz Springmeier, and Drunvalo Melchizedek.

Appeals to forged documents, including but not limited to the alleged diary of Admiral Richard Byrd, The Emerald Tablets of Thoth the Atlantean, and The Urantia Book.

Appeals to channeled information, such as that provided by Edgar Cayce, Carla Rueckert, or George Van Tassel.

"But all of this has to come from somewhere, doesn't it?"

Oh, it all comes from somewhere, all right, but the where isn't what most people imagine.

A lot of the stuff above is just a modern spin on the content of The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, a Russian hoax created to justify violence against Russian Jews. The Protocols itself was plagiarized from a political satire and incorporated a lot of the post-French Revolution conspiracy theories about Freemasons and Jews being behind the French Revolution. I wrote a summary of the conspiracy tropes found in The Protocols over here.

The stuff about Satanic sacrifices and the consumption of blood, adrenochrome, loosh, or whatever are simply just variations on blood libel, an antisemitic conspiracy theory that claims Jews practice ritual cannibalism. Blood libel can be traced back to ancient Greece. (With the Greek version, I really can't help but notice the similarity to modern urban legends of gangsters kidnapping random people for initiation rituals.)

Many of these tropes can also be linked back to the early modern witch hunts. It was believed that witches sacrificed babies to Satan, practiced cannibalism, and put people under mind control by way of diabolical magic. It was also believed that some witches didn't even know they were witches; they'd go off to attend the Devil's Sabbath at night and come back in the morning without remembering a thing. In the late 20th century, this witch hunter's canard would be reinvented as the alter programming conspiracy theory when media such as the 1973 book Sibyl and its 1976 television adaptation put DID (note: the woman who inspired Sibyl did not have DID) into the public consciousness. For a more complete list of witch panic and blood libel tropes, I wrote a list over here.

Lemuria was a hypothetical landmass proposed to explain the presence of lemur fossils in Madagascar and India while being absent in continental Africa and the rest of Asia, because if lemurs evolved naturally, they wouldn't be in two separate places with no connection to each other. The discovery that India and Madagascar were once connected not only made the hypothesis obsolete, it precludes the existence of Lemuria.

The whole notion of Mu began with a horrendous mistranslation of the Troano manuscript. A man named Augustus Le Plongeon would link the mistranslation with the story of Atlantis, and use it to claim that Atlantis actually existed in the Americas. (For Plongeon, Mu and Atlantis were one and the same.) And then other people (like James Churchward) got their hands on the whole Mu thing, and put their own spins on it, and the rest is history.

Le Plongeon's ideas influence modern Atlantis mythology today; EG, the idea that it was in the Americas. Another guy who helped shape the modern Atlantis myth was Ignatius L. Donnelly, an American politician. Dude claimed that Atlanteans spread their oh-so-superior culture far and wide. He also claimed that Atlantis was the home of the Aryan people, because of course he did.

The idea that all of the world's wisdom can be traced back to Thoth/Hermes goes back to Hermeticism, a product of Greco-Egyptian syncretism. Hermeticism produced a fascinating body of mythology and an interesting way to consider the divine and its role in shaping human history, but that doesn't mean it was right. And the Emerald Tablets of Thoth the Atlantean is a modern text that has fuck-all to do with ancient Hermeticism and more to do with HP Lovecraft.

This idea that the conspiracy uses pharmaceutical drugs and vaccines for evil also has roots in Nazi Germany. The Nazi government, wanting to reserve real medicine for their soldiers, told the general populace that said medicine was the product of evil Jewish science and prescribed alternative healing modalities instead. (Said alternative healing modalities did not particularly work.) It also echoes the old conspiracy theories about Jews spreading the Black Death by poisoning wells.

The idea that the conspiracy uses genetic manipulation to create subhuman beings or sever humanity from the divine is a permutation of the Nazi conspiracy theory that Jews are trying to destroy the white race through race mixing. The idea of evil reptilian DNA goes back to the ancient serpent seed doctrine, which is indeed old, but no less pure hateful nonsense for it.

"But there's got to be somebody up to something rotten out there!"

Oh sure. But these people aren't skulking around in the shadows. They're acting pretty openly.

The Heritage Foundation has been working to push this country into Christofascism since the early 1970's. They're the ones responsible for the rise of the Moral Majority and the election of Ronald Reagan. They're also the ones behind Project 2025, which intends to bring us deeper into Christofascism. (Among many other horrible things, they intend to outlaw trans people as "pornographic.")

The Seven Mountains Mandate is another movement pushing for Christofascism. They intend to seize the "seven spheres" of society, which include education, religion, family, business, government/military, arts/entertainment, and media.

There's also the ghoulish American Evangelicals who support Israel because they think that current events are going to bring about the Second Coming of Jesus and cement the formation of a global Christofascist empire. Don't let their apparent support of Jews fool you - they believe that the good Jews will become Christians and the bad ones will go to hell.

All of these people are working toward monstrously horrific goals, but none of them are part of an ancient megaconspiracy. In fact, these are the kinds of people pushing the myth of the ancient megaconspiracy. From the witch hunts to Nazi Germany to the American Evangelical movement, if history has taught us anything, the people pushing the conspiracy theories are always the bad guys.

Danny had no idea how Vortex had caused such a big commotion that it impacted the inhabitants of Atlantis, but he had. Now he had to attend a meeting with the King and Queen of Atlantis to apologise for the inconvenience.

Meanwhile, Arthur and Mera had heard from multiple sources that the being that caused so much destruction from above the ocean was from a place called The Infinite Realms and the one they were going to have a meeting with was the High King. They'd learned that the Infinite Realms was a parallel dimension full of ghosts.

Godzilla himself has been used to taking care of himself after battles, licking at his own wounds, waiting for the salty sea to hasten the healing process, he's been on his own for majority of his life.

Frankly, he thinks it'd be better if humans left him be. Half of the things he's gone through in the last decade have been their fault after all. He doesn't want them near. He just wants to rest, to have a break from the non-stop breaking of the balance. He's tired.

You don't care though, which is why you're making your way to him now, ignoring how there's multiple Monarch planes surrounding you both in the air, trained to 'protect' you, should Godzilla attack.

He won't. He remembers you. The little human that is intertwined with him.

Many humans have tried to make peace with the titan, the man who saved him in Atlantis, being one of them mainly. He's always gotten the hint that there's something more to you, something that makes him feel more at ease in your presence.

It isn't the first time he's come to you after a battle. He isn't sure if he seeks comfort or help, but it leads him to your home.

Mothra and Kong may tease him for his apparent soft spot for you, but he doesn't care, growling under his breath every time he so much as hears the beginning of the teasing.

You're running out now, your feet sinking ever so slightly into the sand, flicking it up behind you.

"Big Guy!" And there you are, in front of his snout as he blinks slowly at you, eyes half lidded.

"Bud, what the fuck did you get yourself into this time?" You wince, tenderly placing a hand on his scaly snout, biting you lip as you look him over.

He lets a bellow out, trying to express that he's fine. He's fought worse.

"Do you need to rest?" You hum, moving to sit down against him, taking in his warmth and smell, letting it envelop you.

It's a rare treat when he allows you close with so many others around, so you make the most of it. Curling your body towards him and making yourself comfortable as his tail moves to block the sun, so you don't get burnt.

Nap time.

Monarch finally fills you in on why Godzilla attacked so randomly, it turned out that there was another titan getting too close to you, Goji handled it the best way he knew how, by fighting it and putting it down so it could never come near you again.

"Lady, you have a guard dog." A security officer shakes his head, making a face at just how brutal the footage is.

Monsterverse au where almost everything is the same except Godzilla can just become a guy whenever he feels like it

some rambles about the au under cut

ok hai idk what sparked in my brain to come up with this idea but I just think it would be very funny to see how a guy who fucks up cities on the regular would deal with being in a city and trying to figure out how the fuck society works

in this au, whenever he either turns back into Godzilla or goes into guy mode (which is the term I’ve decided for when referring to him changing to his human form), a massive cloud of mist forms around him. So while people don’t know that this guy in particular is Godzilla, they do know that if a cloud of mist suddenly appears and you didn’t see Godzilla anywhere beforehand, it’s time to panic.

There’s usually 2 main reasons why he turns into a person

One is boredom. There’s a shocking lack of things for the king of the monsters to do when there’s no monsters to beat up, he’s not tired, and is fully fed so has decided to spend some of his free time figuring what the hell these humans are getting up to these days

Two is quick maneuvering. It generally throws other monsters way off guard when the guy they’re fighting just vanishes in a cloud of mist.

also for funsies here’s some facts about goji in this au because it’s funny

1) Very good at picking up languages,,,verbally. His ass canNOT read.

2) Doesnt understand the point of paper money and credit cards. Only thing he somewhat understands is coins because “at least they’re nice and shiny”

3) In this version of KOTM, when he was getting final wars’d by Ghidorah he briefly went into guy mode in order to get out of there but couldn’t stay like it for long because yknow he was about to explode

4) Sleeps in loads of different spots bc who knew there’s so many more places to sleep when you’re not the size of a wonder of the world, and like what people gonna do? Move him?

5) Pretty much all his prior knowledge of humanity before deciding that exploring cities is cool is from eavesdropping the humans that were in that weird Atlantis place in KOTM and still remembers how to speak their language, only problem is that that culture and language has been dead for several thousand years so it’s not super helpful these days.

6) Thinks straws are a top 10 human invention

7) Chilled in Japan for a bit before 2014 happened and was given the name Tamaki which is what he uses to introduce himself since he didn’t know for a while that people called him Godzilla and even if he knew, telling people your name is Godzilla or Gojira makes them look at you funny

8) He can still use his atomic breath in guy mode but it’s usually by accident, like he sneezes a bit to hard and lasers a bit of a building by accident

9) For some reason is always surprised when people guess his age because they usually guess like,,, late 30s, early 40s and not several hundred thousand years old for some reason (his ass has no clue how long human life spans are due to both his lack of knowledge on them and the fact his perception of time is kinda fucked, he thinks they’re at least 1000 years)

10) Knows about Monarch but just generally views them as annoying bastards that don’t leave him alone (except Serizawa, he thinks about that one moment a lot). Also Monarch knows about the fact he can go guy mode but they haven’t been able to identify which guy he becomes.

11) Can still breathe underwater in guy mode (he still has his gills on his neck but you can’t see them bc of his hair) and will sometimes chill in the ocean whenever he decides that humanity has pissed him off for whatever reason

12) Will never deny that he’s Godzilla, he might not admit he is but if someone asks he won’t say that he isn’t, he just might indirectly say yes

These songs I feel represent this story the most, as these individuals have been given so much power with so many consequences bundled in them. ---

Cynder / Lord Umbry, god of Limbo and Chaos Self Care (So Frustrated) - Brick + Mortar The Love Club - Lorde Sober - FIDLAR Cynder is my persona, but is apart of the story! Their title is "Lord Umbry" and they are tasked with sorting the souls that are sent to Limbo. However, because of their genuine disinterest in the entire thing, they try their hardest to avoid the forced responsibilities and just live a normal mortal life. Least to say, the other satyrs need Cynder back in the rings to keep it operational. --- Lord Grumbry, god of Sloth and Gluttony Gimmie Love - Joji ice cold - half alive ft. Kimbra BS - Still Woozy Grumbry is a Grade A Goober. They're a down to earth god who is also just a hopeless romantic (I mean they have 3 partners right now!). One instance of their partners they didn't get to meet until decades later. Safe to say that was a highlight to a romantic like them <3 ---

Leige Vampbry, fallen angel and god of Greed and Deciet Losing my Religion - BELLSAINT What Have I Done - Anna Ternheim Mayday - Sohodolls Like said above, Vampbry is a fallen angel. Now as a satyr, they're the first of the satyr gods and hold most of the power and understanding of the rings. Their downfall came from falling for an unholy entity as an angel -- slowly bringing them down a path to unholiness. ---

Lady Cephabry, god of Lust and Envy Beautiful Fish - nil00 Los Ageless - St. Vincent Teeth - Lady Gaga Cephabry is the lady of all ladies. She's not afraid to flaunt her stuff and loves up keeping her rings to be in tip top shape! Hell's personal Atlantis needs it after all! Though, she is still a siren-esque monster at heart. Her beauty is known to kill... 😉 ---

Lord Embry, god of Wrath and Pride Appetite for Destruction - Vo Williams Wire - Worthikids Good L_ck (Yo_'re F_cked) - Celldweller Oh, this guy. Embry is a brute, a monster, but also a major loser. He's a giant fan of just getting into physical fights with others for the fun of it, smashing stuff with brute strength, and just messing with people. Behind closed doors, or if you got to know him, he can be a pretty goofy guy. ---

Monarch Fatebringer, god of Fear and Idolatry Heavenly Angel - Patience and Prudence Rule #21 Momento Mori - Fish in a Birdcage Godspeed - Shayfer James Fatebringer is the evil of all evils. She's a pure agent of death, envoking fear and seeking those to idolize her. She's also just a huge bitch that will toy with those she may need to pave her eldritch ways into corrupting the hearts of her followers. Least to say, not the greatest person to be around!

Has Namor ever reclaimed the McKenzie name? I remember he rejected it or something. Why everyone keeps using it?

The surface dwellers use his human name, Namor McKenzie or they call him The Sub-Mariner. He uses it too, but it's mostly on the surface world.

As you see Names & Titles are important in Atlantean Society. A notable comic about his names: Namor, The Sub-Mariner (1990) #37 - Namor is called Namor McKenzie (the Atlanteans pronounce it Mak Kenzee) by Suma-Ket, the Ancient King of Atlantis. (He also has a few titles: Suma Ket, Prophet King of Ancient Atlantis, Lord of the Old Ones, The Dark King, The Devil-King).

Namor asserts he is "Namor, Son of Fen"

Suma-Ket once again calls him, Namor Mak-Kenzee after capturing Namor.

Namor shows his true strength and breaks free to fight Suma-Ket. Who is surprised because he thought Namor was weak (bc he's half human).

Namor once again asserts his princely birth and says he's the Annointed Avenging Son (because his mother named him Namor which means "Avenging Son" in Atlantean)

When Namor's true strength/power is shown Suma-Ket calls him, Fen-Son. Acknowledging his legitimacy.

So Namor has always gone by his father's (Captain Leonard McKenzie) last name but he was raised by his mother, Princess Fen, alone and views himself more closely tied to his mother and Atlantis. Do he is Namor Fen-Son, much like how Fen is called Daughter of Tha-Korr or Andromeda is called Andromeda Attumasen (Her father is Attuma)

As I was writing this out I recalled another time where his name came into question and I think this must be what you were asking about:

In The Order (2007) #7 Namor renounced the name McKenzie.

In my opinion people shouldn't read too much into this comic because it's clear the writer set up Namor to be used for the main character's plot of being the new guy who has to handle high profile situations.

Namor rarely, if ever lies, in 90% of his comics, he's one of the most honest and brutally in your face about speaking the truth characters in comics. The other 10% percent is when writers don't know his character. lol.

It's clear in this comic that Namor is angry because his people have no home again and he wants to embrass Tony Stark (due to the events of Namor (2007) limited series) and he wishes to become a political prisoner to further his plans to help the Atlanteans (it makes no sense to me at all plus at this time Namor was living in Latveria with Doctor Doom, this comic just ignores that I guess) and he is being difficult on purpose (more than his usual difficult self, lol) and rejects his human name even lying about the events of his mother and father's meeting. The main character calls Namor out for the lies and ends up saving the day.

So while I do enjoy Namor being abrasive mostly this comic just doesn't fit with the rest of his character history but I understand that sometimes writers do things for the sake of the plot.

So I guess to wrap up your question: Namor never actually rejects the McKenzie name (really The Order is the only time I remember this happening), however he views himself more as his mother's son, and a Son of Atlantis, than he does as his father's son. He does acknowledge his father and that he is his father's son but it's not as important to his character as his mother is.

Everyone uses McKenzie because it's his name and I guess it's shorter than his many titles. lol. People call him Namor or The Sub-Mariner more often. Honestly I only see his last human name used sparingly in all the hundreds of comics he has.

Namor's struggle with his human/atlantean parentage is always interesting to read about.

Submariner Summer 12

Time for part 12 of #SubmarinerSummer read through, Namor fans. Today its Tales to Astonish #81, When A Monarch Goes MAD! Holy Hell, *that* is Boomerang's first costume? Uh, wow. I'm speechless. Anyway, yeah, Hulk cover. And on the Title page, Namor is completely losing it

Namor has completely lost it at the thought that Dorma betrayed him, unaware that Krang tricked her. Vashti tries to talk sense to him, but he is completely gone in a raging tantrum, even imprisoning Dorma's cousin just because

It gets to the point he starts ripping his own palace apart; Vashti wasn't exaggerating. Pretty low point for Namor. Finally he releases his observation devices and ships to try and find Krang

Krang evades for now, but knows he can't hide forever, so he decides to hide on the surface, though he still intends to steal the throne of Atlantis. He turns Dorma and himself pale-skinned so they can blend in above. Then, he uses his special flagship to outrace Atlantis' ships

The ships are force to return in defeat, and tell Namor Krang was headed for the surface. Still in his rage, Namor determines to follow, no matter what, aaaand, that's right, cliffhanger! Not just that, but we're promised the Golden Avenger himself next issue!

This is absolutely a low point for Namor as he goes from noble prince to raging tyrant in moments. Thinking Dorma betrayed him and going apeshit demonstrates the depth of his feelings, but wow it is quite a tantrum he didn't think through an iota. We'll have to see how well he fares in this state on the surface, especially since NEXT on the read through is Tales to Astonish #82: The Power Of Iron Man!
