So, my brain going off in random directions again. This time with Supergirl and the not particularly well handled Kara/Mon-el romance arc again.

And.

I think I'm on to something about how that ship could have been fixed to work better.

So, they don't hook up in S2. Mon-El has to unlearn bad behaviors in regards to misogyny and Kara has to unlearn her childhood prejudices about Daxamites. It's not easy for either one of them and they both screw up. Kara has to realize she's in the wrong about things and make those up to Mon-el, so it's not just Mon-El being shown to make apologies, grow, and change. They become friends by the end of S2 and have been demonstrated to have made each other better people for having forged that friendship.

Then, to avoid Mon-El having to leave the show, instead of his mom killing his dad and the atmosphere of Earth getting seeded with lead (there is a reason we don't want lead in our water!!! it's still dangerous to humans!!!), Mon-El and Kara save his dad, imprison his mother, and the Daxamites leave to go establish a new homeworld somewhere relatively nearish but not already populated by another species. Maybe leave behind a ship for Mon-el so he can join them later if he wishes, but ultimately his dad respects that Mon-el isn't ready to rejoin his people yet.

If there is to be any ship-teasing between Kara and Mon-el in this modified S2 then it doesn't happen until the big finale with the fight against Mon-El's mother. And both of them are taken aback by the realization there's sparkage there.

S3 is where the ship teasing would begin in earnest and culminating in the two of them getting together at mid-season. Having established a hard-won friendship, showing they're both able to bring out the best in each other without needing romantic motivation first, and giving Mon-El some better characterization than he got in S2 would have made an S3 romance between them way more believable than their weird on/off/on/but now i must go thing that we got in S2. And by bumping Kara/Mon-El down a season, that'd give Kara/James time to actually do their relationship justice before having them mutually break up to stay friends instead.

It'd also be interesting for Argo City to have eventually joined the Daxamite colony once it was revealed that Kara's mom was alive after all. It would have made for some fun background tension and even plots taking place entirely off Earth where Kara and Mon-El have to deal with the tension between the peoples of Krypton and Daxam trying to cohabit the same world. Delve into some of the backstory between both peoples - was Daxam originally a colony of Krypton that struck independence? That would certainly make for an interesting level of nuance in the struggle for creating a fair form of leadership for their now joint colony. Especially when the World Killer thing starts happening - if that was a cult that spanned both Krypton and Daxam but at first appears to be just a Kryptonian thing?

Give me the intrigue. :D

Anyway, canon Kara/Mon-El got strangled by the red string so badly, they never really had a chance to develop any real on screen chemistry. (Not helped by Kara and Lena making heart eyes at each other every chance they got.) But the ship could have been really interesting if it had been given a chance to really breathe and develop more naturally.

How I would re-write Supergirl Season 2/3

(as some one who stopped watching after season three, and also has not rewatched the series since 2020) (reign arc and heroes of the week will remain unchanged)

So, starting off strong, at Alex and Maggie would not have gotten engaged. Season 2 finale would have been Maggie realizing she was rushing into things, Alex being all "no I love you, I know I do" and Maggie being like "there is a whole gay world for you to explore... go do it." This would lead to sadness, a bit of tears (Chyler and Floriana would be AMAZING- daytime emmy nominee worthy performance).

Rhea would reveal Kara's identity to Lena in the finale. It would be casual too, she would be like "you are much better for my son Lena, that kryptonian isn't worth her weight in dirt here. I can't believe he would settle for a lowly slave." And then Lena would be all "reporter" and Rhea would be like "Yes Kara Danver's, former slave to a, Cat Grant I believe her name is" and then Rhea would continue on her spiel and there would be a cut scene as the camera focuses on Lena taking in the information

They save the day- Monel leaves for what ever reason he had to leave- don't remember, don't care. Also, Kara and Mon-el would have never dated, he would have just pined for her and James and Winn would be all "join the club"

Season 3

Alex mourned over her first lesbian relationship over the 6 month gap between seasons, Lena hasn't told Kara she knows.

First DEO scene of Season 3 is Alex talking to Kara (and invertedly Winn and James) about her most recent date on an app. It went bad, Winn chimes in like "what was it this time" and Alex is like "she was weirdly into ___" then J'onn walks in, like "Alex I am sorry to interrupt but there are pressing matter to attend to- there is a meta human down town" (que hero of the week intro)

Lena and Kara hang out, audience find out that Lena hasn't told Kara cause Kara has to leave to deal with a alien and does the usual "uh, I hear my named being called, ugh bye" and Lena just smiles and nodds, and sighs wistfully, staring after her (supercorp shippers go crazy)

Ep 2 or three we first see Sam and Ruby in line for Noonan's or something (why did they establish that as a brand, just to immediately ditch it after season 1???) and it's just a cute simple little "Hi, I'm Alex, let me help you out" but Sam is endeared and Ruby just smiles because (I love Ruby but honestly) she didn't have that much of a personality early on in the season

That same ep we see Lena reuniting with Sam. After that, when ever Sam and Lena meet each other (I don't remember when or how) Kara and Lena are like "you two know each other" and Alex is all blushy like "yeah, Kinda, I mean, not really" and Sam is like "yeah, Lena she is the girl from the place". Sam and Lena share a look (agent reign shippers go crazy)

Sprinkles of supercorp here and there- Just Kara and Lena doing their normal friend shit but Kara being like "woah, I am feeling things maybe"

At ep 8 or so Kara is at the bar with Alex and ask her how she knew with Maggie, that she liked Maggie. And Alex is all "well, I guess I always knew I liked girls but it was always objective. Like, I would think, she is so kind and smart and beautiful and amazing, any guy would be lucky to have her. But something about Maggie just forced me to realize that I was the one feeling these things, not some guy. I don't know, something about her just made alot of things clearer. Like, I realized I was the one driving the car, not a passenger. She made me stop being so passive in my own life" and Kara is quiet the whole time. Alex then ask "why" and Kara is all "no reason". Cut to Lena at L-Corp working on something relevant to the plot (supercorp shippers go crazy) (that conversation inspires Alex to ask Sam out- they then start to date)

Next ep, Kara goes to Lena's office, and is all, "there is something I need to tell you" and Lena is all "I already know" and Kara is shocked an all "how do you know" and Lena is like "in hindsight it was obvious. *list of things that hold double meanings cause miscommunication trope*" "Lee- I would have told you earlier but I-" "It's fine, I get it. You were doing it to protect me" "protect you???" "yeah- you're supergirl". Que Kara sighing and then freaking out, Lena saying Rhea told her, Kara being pulled away by some kind of supe situation, and Lena being all "go get them supergirl"

Kara admits her feelings at the end of the episode. Lena is shocked, but agrees. They agree to go on a date, a real romantic date and not a friend one, but oops- it's ep 9 which means Kara fights reign, goes comatose and then we get angsty, driven lena being like "we gotta fix Kara"

From then on, the show goes like usual, but Alex and Sam are dating and Kara and Lena are as well. The show ends with Season 3, Alex leads Deo, Winn stays but James leaves to help in the future but it really doesn't matter because the show it over. Supercorp is canon, Alex and Sam have a daughter and everyone lives happily ever after.

Edit: forgot to say this orginally but more Cat cameos. I love that woman so much- she has to come back at least twice in season 3 and be like "I leave the city for five minutes and you let her do WHAT? Agent Scully, why on EARTH would you let your sister fight a world killer??? Have you no brains under that thick skull" or something. I just want for her to be there, see Kara and Lena together and pull out of peice of paper from her purse that says "gay" and be like "I knew when you first walked into my office. No straight women would willingly be yelled at that often" or something. Idk, she was just very deeply missed

whats the problem with how DC uses the word metahuman? i thought they were just the DC equivalent of humans born with powers?

Because (depending on the writer and series) uses the term 'metahuman' or 'meta-humanoid' or just 'meta' to describe;

1.) normal aliens with powers, regardless if they look human or not. 2.) humans that came into powers by external factors and do not have powers on their own by rely on an external factor. 3.) homomagi and other magic users.

among other various examples where the term does not apply because these people, while they have powers, are not metahuman. The term has been used as a blanket term for anyone that that has abilities a normal human doesn't have, which while it makes things easy, is not accurate.

Granted, there is some overlap and mushy areas for who is and is not a meta and some that you can debate if they ARE meta, but characters like J'onn and Mon El are not meta.

Kon, is meta (TTK) - but he also has Kryptonian abilities making him extra special. He's also now half human so the term is valid.

Rokk Krinn is not meta because his abilities are natural to his people, and he's not human.

Mon El is not meta because he is a Daxamite and he is normal, but his biology changes under the conditions of a yellow sun like Kryptonians, and he's not human.

Some series have also made the term VERY clear in that in order to be a 'meta' you must be 1.) human or have some human dna 2.) possess the metagene and 3.) have some sort of powers. I very much like this definition as it gives some solid rules for who is, and is not a meta.

TLDR: just because someone has powers, does not mean they are meta.

Another thing about Bruce and Tim is how they treat their friends. Bruce is lonely to the point of possessive, while Time is more obsessive. There’s tons and tons of meta about the way Bruce treats the members of the Superfamily (He’s downright just cruel to Kara and Kon. His unfriendliness to Mon-El during the New Krypton arc etc), while Tim is more open and friendly, and one can even say needy (we must always remember the legendary and iconic cloning).

Idk. Just really funny how Tim is (imo) the most like Bruce of all the Batkids, but he also rejects him the hardest.

Crown Hills un reino muy agradable y dónde la flora es muy llamativa, los bailes y tradiciones se mantienen siempre, los lugareños son...agradables?, el vandalismo, bueno siempre existió pero es más disimulado, allí nació y se crío una parte de su infancia nuestro querido Ghol Mold, el a los pocos pasos ya estaba dedicándose a estudiar magia pero su sueño era ser un modelo espectacular, en su infancia conoció a Raphael Monnier el se la pasaba aveces junto a Ghol (a lo cual a él no le agradaba mucho), con el tiempo en su adolescencia fue convocado por el "Black Mirror" en el NRC allí permaneció como líder del dormitorio Pomefiore muy poco tiempo en primer año debido a que Vil Schoenheit lo revocó de su puesto, el no le dió importancia después de todo solo estaba enfocado en su meta, los años pasaron y conoció "amigos", empezó si carrera como modelo, cada día mejora más en su vida académica, no tiene contacto amenudo con Raphael (solo lo contacta Rapahel, Ghol ni lo llama) y tiene un blog en redes (Magicam) que cada día crece más, tiene un poco de aprecio por Zvlam (Yuusona) pero no lo admite, tiene un orgullo y narcisismo muy amplio, pero siempre que Zvlam necesite un modelo para modelar su ropa el podría estar disponible.

1. Are there any characters in your fandom or faceclaims you refuse to RP with? Who and why? — None that are a hard no, but definitely some characters I’m more reluctant with. If I don’t care for the character, I’m not really going to pursue interactions unless someone really expresses a lot of interest. I don’t want my dislike of the character to bleed out into interactions or make a partner feel like I don’t really want to write with them. I try not to blur IC and OOC, of course, but it can happen, and if I’m not even that interested in interactions in the first place, it’s better to just not. (I don’t follow Mon-El blogs anymore for this reason.)

3. As a mun, what are three of your biggest flaws when it comes to being someone’s RP partner? — I can definitely fall into that anxiety trap of being slow to express interest, start a chat, etc. I don’t always match length, and whenever someone writes me eight beautiful introspective paragraphs and I hit back with like two I feel kinda bad. And... there should definitely be a third thing but it’s not coming to me. I swear I’m not a perfect partner lmao

6. Is there a character that the rest of your fandom adores that you just don’t like/are indifferent to? Who is the character and why? — No one’s coming to mind tbh. Several ships, but no characters.

7. List three honest flaws your favorite character has and talk about how those flaws make them problematic. — Isn’t every flaw problematic? Isn’t that the definition of problematic? Anyway I’m absolutely going to cop out here and link to my meta of Clark’s character flaws, rather than restating things. 

10. What’s something you really hate seeing on your dash that seems to be popular with almost everyone else? — I don’t really like dash commentary posts. They sort of assume that everyone is following the same people, and sometimes they feel more vaguebloggy to me than anything else? It’s hard to explain, I just don’t vibe. I just blacklist the tag and move on.

11. What’s your biggest pet peeve when it comes to RPing? — The purple prose-y writing style that intentionally leaves out key words to sound more ‘artistic,’ combined with aggressive overformatting. It’s like you don’t actually want people to be able to read what you’re saying!

13. Who is your least favorite character in the fandom you RP in? List three admirable traits about them. — You’re gonna make me say nice things about Mon-El? Fine. He actually was drastically improved for season three, so. He eventually figured out how to treat Kara with respect without encroaching on her boundaries. He’s generally very respectful to his wife Imra, as well. And he’s clearly a dedicated and selfless hero in the 31st century.

15. Without naming anyone, have you ever refused/simply avoided another RPer in the fandom because of things you’ve heard others say about them, or because of their popularity? If so, why did you feel the need to? — I’ll only consider blocking someone over something like that if there’s a reliable callout with credible evidence proving that they’re genuinely abusive (this is pretty rare tbh, most callouts I see are over petty nonsense) or if I hear it firsthand from a friend that I trust. I’ve seen too many people get called out / cancelled / whatever over basically nothing to trust general rumors.

So the weirdest of all complaints that I see for Mon-el on my dash is, why did he "keep" the necklace or why did he kiss his wife in front of Kara. And I'm like??

They didn't break up, it was almost like losing someone to death... He had to leave earth forever & she gave him that necklace as a parting gift. In the future where he lived for seven years wearing that necklace, she must have been dead for centuries. People hold onto dead loves, still move on & get married... that's life! She's not going to just yank it off like a crazy person when she happened to see it while grabbing his collar. And he just fixed his shirt & got back to saving his wife & his friends' life on the ship instead of walking back into a DEO prison cell for no real reason other than not behaving as expected.

As for the kiss, his wife who just had a brush with death, recovered... People kiss their spouses in situations like that & its not a normal thing to expect the reflex action or first thought to be the feelings of an ex from seven years ago.

As for the necklace, if she wants the gift back, they can talk about it like adults do. He's not going to dramatically hand it back like they just had a fight or breakup and she's not going to demand it because this is not a normal situation. They parted still in love, in a very death like situation, they are quite literally in very different places & just because Kara is hurt doesn't mean that Mon-el or his wife are in any way wrong or responsible for her pain.

You can say that he should have told her earlier, but then again he didn't know how to tell her anything. He's probably been through a lot & had priorities over having an extremely weird conversation with an ex he never thought to ever see again & for whom the parting is way more fresh than it is for him. It's not like he lead her on, he said no twice when she kissed his forehead, apologized after that monologue and Kara herself felt he was being distant.

Start bashing him for merely existing just because it's getting in the way of your ship? Well I wonder who used to do that when Mon-el's actions were getting in the way of their ship. I get that the show is called Supergirl but he doesn't just exist to be a punching bag for shippers when he's not dancing perfectly to their beats like an obedient monkey.

He just returned, maybe try celebrating that? Or enjoying his new story? Or is Mon-el stanning just limited to shipping Karamel?

that brunch date they had back in 2x20 was so precious. Their energy there was so perfect.

Also, Kara bat her eyes and adjust her glasses and Lena spill her secret? What was that?

The other thing I like about the scenes they shared in S2 is that they showed us a steady development in their relationship. Like, we didn't necessarily *see* every hangout or brunch, but they play so well off each other that you can see the deepening of their relationship with each successive interaction we do see.

I've mentioned before that my cousin was a casual watcher during that season, and she didn't see that, and thus was confused when they were all like "brunch?"/"no kale this time". But then again she is straight.

For me, it was stellar writing in terms of storytelling and character development. It definitely marked a season that really leaned into emphasizing the characters, rather than the plot. I mean, the plot was also superior in S2 to what they gave by the time S6 rolled around, but I digress.

They were friendly and flirtatious and genuine. They mutually basked in each other's presence, like they were excited to see each other, and quick to support each other. Remember when in Exodus, Lena saw Kara's distress and was immediately like "Kombucha can absolutely wait. How can I help?"

Yeah. They really nailed it.
