Something exciting - I'll be selling my art and comics in-person for the first time in years! Tabling with the lovely @om-nom-berries <3
🍑 Momo Anime Market at the Momiji Health Care Society 🍁
I've attended Momiji events and was impressed by the staff's care. The beautiful venue is a Japanese-Canadian seniors' residence, so please take care to mask for the safety of all!

Shoutouts to AJ Beckles in his performance as Okarun in Dandadan. His sad backstory of wishing for aliens to come down and be friends with him was so emotionally charged and I credit AJ for that.
I didn't feel as emotional while reading it (or watching the sub tbh), and I think that really tells you the beauty of an anime adaptation (and by extension, having an English dub). What works within the realm of a comic book may not work as well in animation. And animation can add certain flare to scenes that were more simplistic in the original material. The example here being the end of episode 1: The exploding ship when Okarun reveals his name to Momo was perfect.
The English dub being promoted and marketed makes me so happy, because English dubs are genuinely quite good these days and people don't give these voice actors enough credit. The entire first episode feels like a Saturday morning cartoon gone wrong and it's the mix of saru and English dubbing that gives me that feeling.

I feel where Hori went wrong with BNHA was making it into a shonen.
Not that I'm saying that a Shonen can't be deep or have any of the themes BNHA has, but it seems like Hori really limited himself from what he knows about shonen tropes as the ones he did add are executed terribly.
If it wasn't marketed or trying to be a shonen anime, I'm sure Hori could've been allowed to express his story in any way he wanted.
Hi @theloganator101 👋,
That is an interesting thought, could Hori have done a better job if he wasn't limited by the medium of a Shonen?
Personally, I do not think so since with the complete clownery Hori is pulling lately I'm finding it hard to have faith in Hori's writing.
He also, from what I have heard, seems to have a "forgive your abusers" theme throughout 99% of his works which makes me believe that he wouldn't tackle the theme of something like abuse well in general.
However, if this weren't a shonen he could have done things like gave the women characters more prominence and personality, better costumes, addressed sexism in the industry etc...
But would he do that and would he do it well? Well three reasons make me think not.
AFO's mum only got given the name 'the Prostitute' , died in childbirth and was promptly eaten by rats
Midnight in the entirety of MHA was only a walking talking bondage costume who sexualised the teens she is teaching.
Momo, despite being extremely intelligent, being constantly sexualised, groped by Mineta and having her internship being used as a commercial as gags that go nowhere...
Hori maybe could have explored 'corruption of the hero industry' more if this weren't a shonen. But judging by how the whole Hero commission was thrown away after a ReDestro clone destroyed it, Hawks has been made into an Endeav simp only and Nagant is barely here... Hori doesn't seem to care about this theme at all.
There's also the themes imperative to a shonen which Hori does poorly like the 'underdog theme' (Hori ruins this by having Bakugou trump Izuku and win against him all the time) and 'rising against the odds' (what odds? AFO has been now made into a joke.)
TLDR - the argument could be made that Hori could have explored more themes more effectively if this weren't a shonen. However, I have no faith in Hori's writing judging by what he's been putting out recently.

15 questions for 15 mutuals
tagged by @darthdutton, thank you so much for the fun tag game and sorry I took so long to get to it! I’ve been on a much needed social media fast 🙏🏼.
are you named after anyone? No, I don’t think so. I think my dad just didn’t like my almost-name and liked the idea of me being “victorious”. Turns out the only way I’ve lived up to my name is by owning a bunch of dolls, wanting to be treated like a Queen and wanting to meet my Albert.
when was the last time you cried? um. In the shower about a week ago? I had to euthanize my 15 year old dog and I was suddenly struck by the grief of her loss since she’s been in my life for so long.
do you have kids? I have three kittens.
do you use sarcasm a lot? only all the time.
what sports do you play/have you played?  Anything in physical education class at school. I always sucked at sports and was the last one to get picked when making teams. It was so embarrassing lol. I’m a good skier tho!
what's the first thing you notice about other people? idk, great question! I’ll pay more attention.
eye color? Dark brown.
scary movies or happy endings? Scary movies! Nothing against happy endings but... they gotta be realistic for me to like them.
any special talents? Overthinking.
where were you born? Wouldn’t you like to know?!!!!!! Even though I was raised in Mexico, I was born in the United States. I am privileged with a USAmerican passport.
what are your hobbies? watching anime, reading, writing, listening to music, dancing, trying out new restaurants/cafes, going on trips ( hate to copy ,but damn we do have the same taste x2)
do you have any pets? More like too many pets. I just euthanized my Min Pin, so now I only have 4 cats and a Border Collie. But I’ll be giving up 2 of the kittens up for adoption and most likely releasing Momo (the mom) once I spay her.
how tall are you? Wouldn’t you like to know?!!!!! Average height in the US, tall in Mexico.
fave subject in school? Psychology, Math, Cultural Anthropology, Linguistics
dream job? idk because I've had amazing jobs where I felt so lucky to get paid to do work that I do but I’ve evolved... it used to be Marketing but I would like to get paid to use my Psychology nerdery next.

Undead Unluck random thoughts
Because I need to put them somewhere and see if I’m the only unhinged one
I’m up to date with the manga so spoilers for everything!!
‼️‼️‼️‼️
I just love it so much
Fuuko is, along with Osamu from World Trigger, my favorite manga protagonist ever
But I’ve been thinking and I’m kind of unhinged
Like I love how the fandom collectively makes cute things for all the ships, but they immediately go horny with Fuuko and Andy
Like if they lose their abilities and are able to touch they will never take their hands off each other ever again
Also I eventually start associating my fictional pairings with Taylor Swift songs, in Fuuko and Andy’s case it’s Daylight
I’ve been sleeping so long…. But now I see daylight
As long as Fuuko and Andy are around (as well as Momo and Okarun from Dandadan) I’ll have faith in shonen love stories
Not just Fuuko and Andy, there’s also Ichico and Nico, Shen and Mui, there’s so much to choose from
Also, I ship Sean and Gina too
I love them so much
And I don’t know if it’s because I’ve read too many fanfics, but I think soul mates are a thing in this world
Like the concept of the soul has been explored, especially recently with the battle with Beast
And like Ichico and Nico fell in love in the previous loop and in this one too, same with Shen and Mui, same with Rip and Latla (and Leila lol)
Am I going somewhere with this or am I reaching I don’t know
But if it turns out to be true then I have another Taylor Swift song: invisible string
Also I saw on Twitter the drawing Tozuka made for One Piece’s 25th anniversary for the first time in years
Andy was definitely inspired by Smoker, now I can’t unsee it (no pun intended)
Like they both have white hair, neither looks their real age, they both are a package deal with a cute badass (Fuuko and Tashigi) and both have been missing from their series for years
Smoker is grumpier, and Andy is way more unhinged, and the women I ship them with are miles apart in personality
The fandom has been growing but Undead Unluck could’ve been way more popular
I’ve never been more pissed at Disney for trying to break into the anime market than now, first UU and now Loser Ranger
What’s worse is that I don’t have Hulu in my country, the service that replaces it will fuse with Disney+ in June, hopefully I’ll be able to see the anime before the announcement in August (but if they don’t I’m going to punch someone)
Anyway, all I want is Fuuko’s beanie and I’ll be happy 💙🩷
I might do more unhinged lists, I need to scream to the void about Sakamoto Days so we’ll see 🙃

Alright gang. We’re gonna talk about the project of mine that’s least likely to come to fruition because of how complicated it would be to make it. And that my friends is ‘(V)Flower the Punk Magical girl’.
First comes the Licensing. First I have to have permission from Crypton, Yamaha, twindrill, the guys who made CeVIO, the guys who made Synthesizer V, and various Utau creators. It’s not the actual getting permission part I’m worried about it’s the way I believe some characters I’m afraid could strait up not be used in the way I need them to be used. Example: Hatsune Miku. I don’t think Crypton would let me depict her as a villain if I’m going to use her. Even though she would be a miss guided character.
Second issue: music. Very simple. Some artists are less likely to work on a project like this than others and won’t be likely to let me use their music.
Third issue: language and making the characters talk. Most of the characters I plan on using for this project don’t have talk voicebanks(Oliver, Yohio, The Kagamines, Solaria, Kevin, Sweet Ann, Kasane Teto, Gumi, Utane Uta(Defoko), Momone Momo, Etc). Not only that I have to either make this in Japanese or English and because a lot of the voicebanks don’t normally have the capacity to do both languages in an understandable way it would be incredibly expensive and time consuming to do the tuning and actually talking.
Forth issue: Animation. It would be animated with 2D for the characters and 3D for the Setting. I hope why everyone knows why that’s really hard right.
Fifth: The audience. Out of all the vocaloid characters to get a potential movie VFlower is among the least likely because she’s not Miku. Anything but The Crypton Loids and Otomachi Una. It’s simply wouldn’t sell enough in either of its demographics to make up for the cost of making it. And considering that the western vocaloid market is smaller than the eastern market I’m not hopeful that a vocaloid movie would sell well here.
Sixth issue: Budget. Let’s be real a project like this wouldn’t be given a working budget and lots of people would have to work overtime to make this a functional product. I really don’t want that to happen to my projects even if the animation is being done by a different studio.
Seventh issue: The AI debate. Vocaloid and other vocal synthesizer softwares are often confused for Ai products instead of instruments. Many people would boycott the project because there’s a lot of people who don’t know this is voiced by Vocal synths(an instrument that’s made pretty ethically) and not AI generated voices(unethical and lifeless). Which would add to the possibility of it not making any money at all.
I’ll reblog this again tomorrow with the plot of the plot so yall can make fanfic based off the premise.

On idolish7 - yes I know im SO LATE
First, the ships:
Iori & riku
Mezzo (the part when tamaki got to the station after sogo’s solo broadcast was so gay in the best possible way)
Mitsuki & Yamato (that slap in the face - so good)
Re: vale
Thoughts:
Iori and Yuki are so autistic I ADORE them
I really wish Riku would have been open about having asthma. As an asthmatic myself, it would have been beautiful
As a marketer, Zool’s debut was chef’s kiss
I want to ship Tsumugi and Gaku SO BAD, because I love Gaku and want him to live happily ever after. BUT Tsumugi is such an aro ace queen that I just can’t. I adore her
I also want to ship Kaoru and Nagi bc Kaoru is such a fangirl for Nagi, but Nagi is such an emotional hot mess and a flirt… my girl Kaoru deserves a PRINCE in *every* way
When Takanase Kujo talks about Zero, he looks so wacky I feel like I’m watching a shonen anime
Imho whoever voices Mitsuki has the *perfect* Japanese twink voice. 2nd only to Momo
I’m bummed we didn’t get to see the other side groups - the Pythagoras trio specifically. Their song is FIRE
Of the units, I think Zool has the most real world idol music, with Trigger coming in second. I7 is straight up anime music (but I love it)
Every other day I have a new song stuck in my head. Two days ago it was Natsu. Today it’s Pythagoras fighter. Not ashamed to say the music kind of slaps
That’s it for now but I’m like 6 eps away from finishing the whole series so I’ll be back

I don’t understand why anime men can be drawn looking handsome while also looking normal and wearing normal clothes, but sososo often, anime women are drawn looking like their tits are going to pop out of their bras and/or they wear provocative outfits.
Do men (or male artists anyway) not care if a woman is beautiful if she isn’t being revealing? Do her facial features, the way she carries herself, her hair, etc. not matter so long as she’s not trying to act like a seductress?
Tumblr media
From my own experience with men I can only say one thing- they are liars. Or at least they like lying to themselves.
They will oftentimes say that they don't like women who reveal feminine features, but they do. Men like women and they like objectifying them. Bc if men are straight, logically, they're attracted to women. Bc woman's body is pretty and not just in a sexual sense. Sometimes it's just pretty for looking at; like art, nude modeling and act. Worshipped even. Woman's body is prettier than man's body in so many ways. But I think this beauty shouldn't be so heavily sexualized like it's often the case in the east. Japan has so much explicit content that they even have categorized shops at every corner, in public spaces. I don't know how Japanese women feel about this but statistics show that their birth rate is slowly declining. Besides poor economic situation, women don't feel respected or loved enough. And the feminism has risen in this part of the world as well.
Anyways, back to the point- I respect Gege for keeping his characters neat and the story heavily plot oriented without much fanservice (men are the fanservice lol). Gege also says that his parents are reading the manga so I suppose he doesn't rly want to feel like a disgrace lmao. I'm not sure if this was his marketing strategy to interest women into shōnen genre but it definitely worked, now jjk has become one of the most popular series of all time. And it's ok to have Mei Mei as one token representative of a "sexy woman" stereotype although I wouldn't rly call her sexy either. She's just a beautiful woman.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What definitely helps the whole situation is Gege's taste in fashion. No male mangaka that I know ever paid attention to this one very important factor. Fashion is a type of expression, and it can tell a lot about the character themselves without incorporating their personality in words. With that said, jjk women have so much personality to them, it's fascinating.
Mei Mei and Mai could be considered sexy, Utahime is a traditional authoritative beauty, Nobara is very stylish and confident, Maki is a strong tomboy girl, Miwa and Momo are girly and cute, Ozawa is a shy girl, Shoko is your typical CEO woman, Yuki is a biker girl. And some of them have short or tied up hair which is nice bc it can be just as feminine as long hair. He even introduced women's insecurities like Ozawa being overweight and that Yuuji didn't mind bc he found her writing and table manners pretty. Momo's outlook on woman's prejudice in jujutsu world is also something important to adress. Yuuta is shown kissing Rika bc what they're having is true love and true love doesn't know shallow boundaries. Gege understands woman's struggle.
In an interview, Gege revealed that he has similar mindset to Megumi and that he doesn't want to sexualize women as much. The way he treats woman body is purely artistic. At least watching these panels didn't make me feel uncomfortable at all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Regarding Mei Mei's and Ui Ui's relationship, yea it's a taboo. But I think that author didn't want to promote incest, rather, he wanted to show that Mei Mei is a woman with flaws. And flaws are something that makes a person interesting, together with their virtues. She also likes money. To the point that Gojo made fun of her by flipping a coin to summon her bc apparently, Mei Mei lacks self-respect.
In contrast to her, Utahime respects herself too much. That's why she's often hysterical and Gojo tells her that hysterics won't win men (Gojo is a real mansplainer huh).
Gojo is rude and so is Sukuna. But Miwa and Yorozu don't even notice a man's flaw if they're interested in him (Gege knows a woman's mind too well, which is funny). That's why he's asking ladies to vote for Nanami instead of Gojo in popularity poll (women should set aside shallow interests and concentrate on person's kind soul).
Unlike them, Shoko is aloof and rational bc she's too aware of fleetingness of life, especially in her line of work as a doctor. Sure, she can be friendly and smile a lot, but she doesn't want to form any strong relationships with anyone. This is the only way she can keep her sanity in check. After all, jujutsu is just a marathon where the finish line is a pile of friends' corpses. Something the younger generations are a bit immature to understand.
Nobara is a very stubborn girl, she sometimes comes off as too bossy or rude (Yuuji calls her a bitch lol). But it turns out this was only her defense mechanism with people she's unfamiliar with bc she didn't want to be underestimated for being a country girl of limited thoughts and experience. Bc Nobara is indeed a great girl with many talents.
Maki is a strong, independent woman but this doesn't mean that she refuses help and support from people around her. She likes guys who are stronger than her (and Yuuta comes into picture, besides, he also suggested that he wants to crush Zenin clan together which explains her liking to him). Panda noticed that and wanted to play a wingman. Although his boobs question (Maki's insecurity) was a bit inappropriate (but it got the point across), Yuuta's answer was very polite which made him more likeable in her eyes.
Yuki and Todo are similar bc they're nosy, they enjoy exploring different people's interests and judge them whether they're considered "a person of culture" (which adds to the series' comedic aspect). I love Haibara's answer bc he says "I like women who eat a lot" bc he knows that women who eat are happy and that a hungry woman is an angry woman.
Gege understands women so much that fans are contemplating whether Gege is actually a woman himself or not. It's nice to have a mangaka who's this mindful.

so I have seen the new trailer for the live action ATLA adaptation and I think I'm actually feeling more optimistic about it. Generally when an animated product is adapted to live action, I want to see something new in the production and storytelling that justifies why this story benefits from being re-created in a live action format, while still maintaining the overall heart and spirit of the animated original. Most of the disney live action remakes, for example, have failed to meet this bar.
Where I'm feeling a little more optimistic with the ATLA remake is because the format almost necessitates some pretty significant structural changes to the story. You can't take something like season one of ATLA, which was incredibly episodic and designed for Nickelodeon syndication in 30 minute blocks, and stitch it into eight hour-long episodes on a serialized, binge-watching style platform like Netflix without making changes. You just can't.
What I'm hoping they do with these changes is that instead of trying to frankenstein the story together, they pick and choose which elements matter and which do not. And then I want to see the storylines they keep get greater focus and more elevation than they received in the original. One of the benefits of a remake is that you already have the finished project to build off- you know what matters, you know what doesn't, and you can work with that to craft a tighter story while giving appropriate expansion and depth to elements of it that might have been overlooked in the original. The way Suki and the Kyoshi warriors have been billed and marketed gives me a lot of hope for this- when Bryke were first creating ATLA, they had no plans for Suki to be anything more than a one-off character, but she ended up Sokka's endgame love interest. The new show has the benefit of already knowing this.
Same thing applies to characters like Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee. We already know where their storylines end up, so they have the opportunity to expand and deepen all three of them without worrying about making things up as they go or maintaining any sense of mystery. And they have a lot of opportunity to play with Ozai's character too, given they don't have to keep him in the shadows for two whole seasons anymore- we already know he's a hot older version of Zuko, that reveal happened in 2007. Since they don't need to hide his face, they can actually show a lot more of him a lot earlier in the story. Again, I'm hopeful for this given that the trailers seem to be showing a lot of extra scenes with the Fire Nation characters and Azula and Ozai are both featured on the promotional poster.
Now, will I like the changes they make? That's an unknown. I might. I might hate them. We'll see- but at least it seems like there will be changes that, hopefully, will serve to justify why this remake deserves to exist. I do not want to see a shot-for-shot recreation of the animated series. I can already watch the cartoon.
That said, I still want to see the spirit of the original preserved. So far I like what I'm seeing from Netflix- the world looks pretty good, the animals, while obviously CGI, look faithfully rendered, the costumes are miles better than what we saw in the 2010 movie (though I have my reservations about the saturation of the blue in the water tribe coats), and the characters all look pretty accurate to their animated counterparts. The lighting is dark because lighting is dark in every show these days, and I'm not 100% on the color palette. But I was glad to see some of the humor has been retained in the trailer- we see Aang running into the statue like in the opening of the cartoon, Sokka has a few one-liners, and the shot with Momo was cute. I'm a little worried Iroh's humor won't translate well into live action, but we'll see what they do with that (I imagine they'll have to cut back on some of the slapstick, Saturday-morning-cartoon antics anyways).
I like most of the casting too, from what I've seen so far. Dallas Liu looks like he's gonna be a great Zuko, Kiawentiio I already knew from Anne with an E and I think she'll be a perfect Katara, and I think Ian Ousley will grow on me as Sokka. His line reads sounded good in the trailer. I'm a little concerned about Gordon Cormier, he looks the part perfectly but he is so young and I felt like his delivery in the trailer was just...lacking a bit. But I need to see more of him to really judge. And I love the casting of Elizabeth Yu for Azula, I love that she looks like a tiny baby. No one will mistake her for the older sibling in this version. And of course the adult cast I'm not worried about at all.
(bully any of these children online btw and die by my sword)
Will this show be good? I don't know. But I hope it will at least justify its existence to me as more than just a nostalgic cash grab. That's what I'm looking for first and foremost.

Countdown To Dawntrail Week 1: Beginning City
Allienea Shepard stepped off the carriage and gazed up at the doors to Ul'Dah. The jewel of Thanalan. The site of the bloodsands, whose brutal reputation had reached even the ears of her people in faraway Thavnair. And a hateful cesspit of inequality and corruption.
Allie tied her burning red hair behind her head, straightened her new - totally not stolen skirt - and walked in as carefully as possible. Her first question shall be how the women of this country can actually walk around in these accursed things.
Ul'Dah, true to what she had heard during her five-year trek to this country, was always busy. The copper cobblestones were always underfoot of some adventurer or merchant, and even the palatial balconies above could hear the deals and arguments happening below as clearly as Allie could standing right next to them.
After talking to the lady of the inn, Momo something or other, Allie ventured to the Thaumaturge guild to get herself set up with room and board.
The guild was run by five lalafellian brothers, who inducted her into the guild with a mix of ceremony and menial tasks. The first three days were a routine of killing monsters outside the gates and bringing back proof of her kills in exchange for more lessons. All the while, whenever she could, she would ask around taverns and markets about the woman that had brought her to Eorzea. The only reason she was so far from home to begin with. So far? Nothing.
But it was on the fourth day when all of that would begin to change.
Allie was bringing back some animal skins for the guild when she saw a highlander woman sobbing on the ground, her feeble form passed over by the uninterested townsfolk. The men who had pushed her - Brass Blades, she had learned - spat on the woman. "next time, we tell you go get out of the way, ya Ala Mhigan bitch, you do as we say!!!" one of them screamed, spittle bursting from his all-but unhinged jaw. One last kick, and the men hopped aboard the luxurious carriage that was behind them as it continued. The wheels kicked mud onto the woman's legs, which only made her sob harder.
Allie stared at the carriage, most likely belonging to quite the man of means. And sure enough, through the tinted windows, she could barely make out the form of a Lalafell with an impressive mustache. The sight disgusted her. Angered her. And soon enough, she began to glare at the carriage. Thinking burning thoughts.
The man within would survive what happened next, his panicked and charred men pulling his coughing, wheezing body from the wreckage. It didn't take them long to figure out who was responsible. Sadly, they decided that it was the woman they had already disrespected. "Highlander dog!" the same guard shouted, drawing his blade. Allie's instinct was to slink back into the crowd. It would've been the smart thing to do. But then, letting the carriage go would also have been the smart thing to do. And never let a soul accuse Allienea Shepard of being smart.
"She didn't do it, I did!" Allie said, stepping forward, displaying her Thaumaturge staff as proof. Her charity was rewarded with the butt of the guard's sword meeting the side of her skull, and the blackness of sleep.
She awoke, shockingly, in the guild - instead of a cell. Apparently, what would otherwise have been a death sentence, was reduced to "community service" by a mysterious patron. The patron's messenger to the courts merely gave the initials M. W. to mark their influence. Cocobuki didn't know why, and neither did Allie, but the scolding she got from the guild masters made death seem preferable. Few things are as humiliating as having to capitulate to someone who barely reaches your knees.
The terms of her community service were simple: she was to accompany a knight of the sultansworn on his duties until the courts deemed her service to be filled. And so, a day later, her handler appeared. A Miqote paladin named Q'ihnn Tia.
She did not have time for this.

A Blend of Serenity and Adventure: Iguazu Falls and Bhutan
Down in South America, there's this awesome bunch of waterfalls called Iguazu Falls. It's cool, and once you see it, you won't forget how amazing it is. It's in both Argentina and Brazil, showing off nature's incredible power and beauty. If you're up for a fun adventure, choosing an Iguazu tour package is like being in a real adventure movie. You get to explore, feel all excited, and enjoy the calm in a super pretty rainforest.
Tumblr media
Choosing Your Adventure
How Many Days? - If you have less time, go for 2-3 days. If you want a big adventure, go for 5-7 days!
Where to Stay? - Stay close to the waterfalls! It's cooler that way. You can see them whenever you want!
Fun Stuff to Do! - Get a guide who knows everything! They'll show you the best places. Look for boat rides, jungle walks, and bird watching.
Getting Around? - You need a good ride. Some Iguazu tour packages include rides everywhere, even from the airport.
Meet New Friends! - Don't just see waterfalls. Meet people and try their food. It's fun and makes the adventure better!
Here's a simple plan for a 5-day adventure:
Day 1: Welcome to the Tour!
Get to your hotel and meet your guide.
Have dinner and meet your new friends.
Day 2: Waterfall Day in Argentina!
Spend the whole day viewing different beautiful waterfalls in Argentina.
Walk on cool paths and maybe go on a boat ride near the waterfalls.
Day 3: Waterfall Day in Brazil!
Go to Brazil to see more waterfalls from a different side.
Take it easy in the afternoon or do something fun!
Day 4: Adventure in the Jungle!
Go on a jungle walk and embrace the beauty of nature’s plants and animals.
At night, see a show and eat yummy food.
Day 5: Farewell!
Engage in some fun nearby activities in the morning.
Say goodbye to the falls and bid your farewell until next time.

Note
so you hate zombieland saga despite not actually watching the whole thing because of one introductory scene showing how the mc became a zombie in the first place.........ok then
Look. When I went in to watch Zombieland Saga, I had absolutely no idea of what was coming to me. Like I said, I went all in blindly, no spoilers at all.
I thought the title and the girls looking like zombies was a marketing plot to attract fans as an idol by making something scary and creepy (i.e.: the undead) into something cute and marketable. Like, appealing to the Goth/Emo/Scene crowd with alt fashion or something. Never in my mind has crossed the thought of seeing someone literally DYING within the first minute of the anime.
Not to mention how almost every Isekai out there utilizes the death-by-truck trope to kickstart their plots (as well as the one responsible for the cursed infamy of Minky Momo), and I've already have talked about how this trope is suicide ideation/glorification, and how horribly creepy this is.
Gimme a break.

Things Get Better?: LGBTQ Representation in Animation in 2022 [Part 1]
Tumblr media
Komichi Akebi of Akebi's Sailor Uniform happily welcomes all the LGBTQ animated shows in this article. Logos of my favorite anime with LGBTQ themes which aired throughout 2022 are shown in this graphic which I created
In January 2022, I wrote that there was a possibility that in 2022 things would "get better" in terms of LGBTQ representation, with new fandoms developing from shows which take risks by telling diverse stories. Although 2022, in some regards, more than lived up to this possibility and went beyond, there were challenges.
Reprinted from Pop Culture Maniacs and Wayback Machine. This was the nineteenth article I wrote for Pop Culture Maniacs. This post was originally published on January 16, 2023.
In the world of anime, some series with implied, or directly represented, LGBTQ characters, came to an end. [1] Often times these series had yuri themes. For instance, there were somewhat strong undertones between the protagonist, Komichi Akebi, and her friend, Erika Kizaki, in Akebi's Sailor Uniform, and the protagonists of The Demon Girl Next Door, Yuko Yoshida and Momo Chiyoda, and those of the short-lived, but intriguing, yuri isekai, The Executioner and Her Way of Life. In the latter series, one of the protagonists, Akari Tokitō, has a crush on Menou, a female assassin with a duty to kill her. At the same time, Menou's aide, Momo, has a crush on her and is jealous of how close she is getting to Akari.
One series, Birdie Wing: Golf Girls' Story, blew representation out of the water, with strong romantic themes between Eve and a Japanese girl she plays golf against, Aoi Amawashi. Eve is often unaware of how romantic she is toward Aoi, who has a clear crush on her. Erica Friedman of Okazu, a well-known reviewer who focuses on lesbian themes in anime, even wrote that she may "start measuring other anime based on how amazing this one was". Other series ranged from having implied to more direct themes, including Vampire in the Garden, Do it Yourself!!, Bocchi the Rock!, Healer Girl, Lycoris Recoil, and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury.
There were additional anime with LGBTQ themes or characters. For instance, Life with an Ordinary Guy who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout, which had a three month run from January to March 2022, featured a reincarnated protagonist, Hinata Tachibana, who is heavily implied to be a bisexual trans woman. The spinoff from the popular Rooster Teeth series, RWBY, named RWBY: Ice Queendom, featured a non-binary nightmare hunter, Shion Zaiden. Christine Brent, Senior Brand Director for Rooster Teeth, confirmed this and said she would like to have similar characters in future productions.
Apart from these series, there were implied yuri themes in the ongoing idol series Love Live! Superstar!! and second season of Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club. Such themes were also present in Management of Novice Alchemist, Encouragement of Climb: Next Summit, KanColle: Itsuka Ano Umi de, My Master Has No Tail, Prima Doll, Smile of the Arsnotoria the Animation, Shine Post, and many others, [2] all of which began, and ended, in 2022.
Many of these series are on Crunchyroll, one of the biggest anime streaming services. With its recent merger with Funimation, Crunchyroll now dominates the anime streaming market, and will likely continue crackdowns on pirate sites. Its only real competition is YouTube, smaller sites like HIDIVE (owned by AMC), and streaming services such as Netflix, Tubi, and Hulu.

Notes
[1] Some could say that the final season of Princess Connect! Re:Dive has yuri subtext and point to the second season of Dota: Dragon's Blood featuring an Elven thief named Fymrym, who was once in a polyamorous relationship with a woman and two men, with her partners murdered by Luna, who attacks the Elves who don't worship Selemene. Also, Komi Can't Communicate featured Najimi Osana who has an ambiguous gender and Ren Yamai who is a lesbian, a bisexual man named Apollo in Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, gay characters like Nagi and Soldier in Goblins Cave and Suma in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Attack on Titan has LGBTQ characters as well, as does One Piece.
[2] Others, as listed on Yuri Anime Reviews, include Teppen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Laughing ‘Til You Cry, League of Nations Air Force Aviation Magic Band Luminous Witches, Kakegurui Twin, Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story Final Season, RPG Real Estate, Miss Shachiku and the Little Baby Ghost, Black Rock Shooter: Dawn Fall, Cue!, Slow Loop, and Girls' Frontline.

Clear card pros and cons (that i can remember i need to reread it again)
Pros:
SYAOSAKU DATING ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
idk more content around our fave characters (though not as much but take it as you will)
The wierd ass technology update all of a sudden everyone has iphones (minus syaoran)
It picked up from the og ending where syaoran comes back from hong kong
SYAOSAKU DATING 🥹🥹🥹
SYAOSAKU WENT ON A DATE ‼️‼️
Unlocked sakura new swag (at the cost of ending her cardcaptor retirement…)
(Anime only) english dub actors of trc syaosaku voice ccscc syaosaku i thought that was pretty cool (syaoran sounds like maybe he went through puberty a little too early but thats okay)
(Anime only) SYAORAN SPEAKS FRENCH IN THE ENGLISH DUB
cute art style
Maybe just me but sometimes i get a little emotional seeing sakura in her daily life in middle school because its like !! Wow i remember when you were in 4th grade and now you’re in 7th grade im so proud of you sakura 🥹
Momo (new mascot to make marketable plushie off of)
(Anime only) MEILING COMEBACK ‼️
THE SYAOSAKU SONG HOSHI NO TEGAMI 😭😭😭😭😭 BEST SONG EVERRRR WTF SYAORANS SINGING VOICE IS SO!:?:)/$/? THEYRE SUCH A GOOD DUET
SYAOSAKU DATING. Btw. Theyre a couple. Theyre dating and theyre in love.
Cons:
KAITO.
New characters who happen to be mediocre
Akiho is literally just a carbon copy of sakura who is just sad (they refused to touch on the different aspects of her like reading books, singing and from kong kong only very rarely)
Kaito fucking sucks literally worst ccs of all time and THATS A LOT saying theres literal PEDOS in the fucking show but theyre all background characters but they can also piss off
Tbf i got confused along the way
Too many plot holes
Syaosaku angst
Syaosaku couldnt touch for a while 😔
Anyway why did yelan do that (referring to point above)
Some shit does not make sense
Tsubasa/xxxholic references (this is for you oomf)
Syaoran???? Is part of the “im keeping things from sakura” gang???? And it sucks so bad (yes it got resolved in the later half BUT IT STILL SUCKED)
TOO MANY THINGS KEPT FROM SAKURA JUST TELL HER DAMN
pushes most characters from the og manga aside to focus on akiho and that man 🙄🙄🙄
Clamp forces us to care about them but in reality we really do not gaf
(In reference to point above) Clamp sees that and pushes the nostalgia tactics/references sometimes and its lowkey tiring
The part where the syao/saku/tomo were reminiscing that fuck ass teacher made me ill i genuinely wanted to kms
Still hasnt gotten rid of their p*do ass shit thanks clamp very cool (sarcasm)
Did i mention that the og characters were pushed back? Because they really were
Akiho felt more of the main character of this story instead of sakura
Tbh not much happened in the entirety of this manga ESPECIALLY considering time shenanigans
Im still mad that syaoran hid stuff from sakura tbh
HOW CAN I FORGET THE UGLY ASS “YUNAAKI IS SIMILAR TO SYAOSAKU” PARALLELS AND HOW BADLY IT PISSES ME OFF
syaosaku dont look but theres an ugly bitch trying to be like you (yunaaki)
Yunaaki becoming borderline canon despite it being a toxic and p*dophilic ship
Kaito still exists in this fucking story and got a somewhat happy ending (befriending syaoran dont piss me the fuck off)
COMPARING KAITO TO SYAORAN KYS @ CLAMP
Kero/tomoyo/yue/nakuru/spinnel basically everyone magically involved is pushed back basically useless until the final act (i think i mentioned the character pushback before)
Still major plotholes
Yamazaki tells the truth now
Touya got whitewashed
Akiho still has too many similarities to sakura it still pisses me off. Why cant they make her her own character
My girl sakura developed anxiety
MY BOY SYAORAN DEVELOPED DEPRESSION
angsty ass middle schoolers
Didnt like the scene where sakuras grandad was basically throwing shade at syaoran comparing his romance with sakura to … sakuras fuckass dad grooming her mom. What
Syaoran calmed down a bit i miss when he was chaotic af but whatever #middleschoolerthings
Season 2 is taking forever to release good lord
