Before he became immortal, Louis had been young and dumb and had just come his brains out after one of the most incredible real-life fucks that had been building for weeks.

Lestat—that was his real name, Lestat, and Louis wasn’t sure how many people knew his name, but Louis was pretty sure that he was one of the privileged few, because damn that name sounded too fake to not be real. Lestat was so much more magnetic in the real world. Now, looking back, Louis marveled that when Lestat was alive, they had only had about an hour together, awake, in real life. They’d known each other for weeks before that in partitioned dreamshare, but when they finally met physically? Louis had marveled that Lestat was bursting with personality, even more when Lestat was skin and heat and scent than when he was simply intimate thoughts inside Louis’s mind.

So after their first and long-awaited mind-blowing real-world sex on one of the narrow cots in Marius’s dream den after hours, they’d been feeling like with one taboo broken, they should definitely break more. Because this had been amazing. A dream den architect and client-trainee meeting outside the dream—let alone fucking—was strictly forbidden, but obviously Marius was a fool.

Louis knew that he was new to dreamspace, but it was clear it afforded incredible intimacy. You found out fast who you didn’t click with. Who was small-minded. Who felt like they had potential. And, in Lestat’s case, who startlingly balanced and completed you effortlessly—and felt the same way about you. Without dreamshare, it might have taken weeks or months to find that out, if they could have at all. Finally meeting physically and consummating their relationship confirmed everything he already knew.

Dawn and office hours were just a few hours away. The sweat was cooling on their bodies and they couldn’t stop trading kisses. They needed more time together. Going under would give them a whole night—a whole week. More. Going one level deep wasn’t enough; maybe two. Maybe three. They were heavy-handed on the sedative in the somnacin mix out of bravado, because what was the worst that could happen. They pushed the button on the PASIV looking into each other’s eyes.

By the time Marius had found them, and found a chemist to administer a push of adrenaline in the line for a kick strong enough to get them out of limbo, they’d been together for lifetimes.
