Modern Hebrew is a Zionist language
Modern Hebrew is a Zionist language
The Hebrew language was revived by Ben-Yehuda, who was a Zionist who moved to Israel. It was always intended to be the language of the new Jewish state.
If you're an antizionist Jew and you get angry at Zionist Jews speaking Modern Hebrew and accuse them of "appropriating Jewish culture" (which is complete bullshit), you should just stop speaking it then, not us.

A favorite Modern Hebrew word of mine:
רִשְׁרוּש
[ʁiʃ’ʁúʃ]
reesh-ROOSH
An onomatopoeia for a murmur or rustling sound. Originally invented by Hayim Nachman Bialik around 1900. Probably best known for its use in “A Walk to Caesarea” by Jewish poet Hannah Szenes, who was killed fighting against Nazis during WWII. The poem was set to music as “Eli Eli” and is a popular song in Israel.

Kemo kallim middai.
The night carries me
but not like a promise, not like how I carried you, in the stomach, on the chest, the back, the neck, on the head of my joy, on the shoulders of my concern.
through swirling snow.

Why are certain concepts and phrases completely untranslatable in a decent form from Hebrew to English and vice versa? Why am I able to read texts from over a millenia ago and understand them almost perfectly? Why is Hebrew generally so much easier to translate to Arabic than to English? And most important of all, why is nobody able to speak Hebrew in Europe without fearing being physically attacked by strangers?
It's almost like modern Hebrew is Levanite language faced with extreme xenophobia in Europe and in the diaspora in general, which evolved from ancient Hebrew through diasporic dialects that later on merged back together
antisemites will talk about the revitalization of the hebrew language like we pulled it out between our ass cheeks. you know we were praying and reading and writing in hebrew literally since forever right? right???

Modern Hebrew is a such a joy to study, nothing like finding out that "carcinogenesis" and "video" look the the same and are pronounced similarly, or that the word ללבב can either mean "to enchant" or "to make potato pancakes"

Israelis generally have a decent grasp of English. Many signs are in English, Hebrew, and Arabic, and you can usually get by in Israel with English alone. But let me tell you, knowing a good amount of basic Hebrew can transform your trip to Israel in ways you might not expect.
Recently, I spoke with a woman from my Hebrew learning community. She shared a story from her first trip to Israel. On her first day in Jerusalem, her phone was stolen right out of her hands. While she was very impressed with how the police handled the situation—driving her around to try and recover her phone and ultimately retrieving it—the language barrier made an already stressful situation much more challenging. Despite their attentiveness, the inability to speak Hebrew created a major communication gap. She realized then that learning Hebrew before her next visit was a must and decided to explore my course.
But it’s not just about emergencies.
Buses, for instance, display information only in Hebrew.
Knowing numbers and basic phrases can transform your shopping experience, making it so much easier and more enjoyable.
Plus, understanding Hebrew allows you to immerse yourself fully in the culture—whether it's catching the gist of a conversation before it switches to English or enjoying Hebrew music, art, shows, and more.
Now, I'm not talking about fluency. Just being able to hold a basic conversation and understanding the structure of the language can make a huge difference!
You’ll pick up more than you expect, even if you still consider yourself a beginner. It all depends on how good that basic Hebrew that you learned is. How relevant and practical it is, and how much did it teach you about how Hebrew works so you can connect the dots when you're there.
That’s why I designed my program to help you achieve practical Hebrew skills in just a few weeks, at your own pace. Whether you want to walk or run, the path for success is laid out for you.
Start your journey today and transform your next visit to Israel. Don't wait until you're there to realize how much more enriching your experience could be with the right amount of the right Hebrew learning.

this is what jvp wrote in response to the butchered Hebrew. what a fucking joke.
Jews: "hey dude your Hebrew is written from left to right, you didn't even have the common sense to double check your spelling"
JVP: "umm actually it's Zionism's fault for forcing Hebrew on their Jews and erasing their real indigenous languages 🤡"
Jews: "you realise.... the seder plate.... is always written in Hebrew..... the language of the Torah.... and it has no connection to modern Hebrew whatsoever........ you literally just had to google a seder plate and copy the fucking words........"
and just to prove this takes 5 seconds to verify:
not only can you find a reference on google images pretty easily, you can also look it up on shopping sites like amazon to guarantee photos of empty plates (since a lot of the photos on google had the food items on them).
it's not hard to verify this, this even shows up if you google "passover plate" in case you somehow don't know what a seder is, there's no excuse for making a mistake on the most important item on the fucking table.
#antisemitism#jvp#fuck jvp#jvp is a fucking joke#antizionist jews#i/p#it's one thing to not know modern hebrew#it's another thing to fuck up the most important item on the table#which. you already fucked up. by writing politics on.

Hey, in case it matters: I'm interested in random questions about Hebrew words! I'm a modern Hebrew speaker, interested in Biblical Hebrew. Keep in mind though that I'm a hobbyist, not a professional linguist.
Would it be cool to DM you a super random question about a Hebrew word?
you totally can but keep in mind that i don't really speak hebrew so unless it happens to be one of the words i recognize i might have to defer you to a modern hebrew speaker

mosque of the companions in massawa, eritrea. it was reportedly built by companions of the prophet muhammad who fled to africa due to persecution they faced in mecca. it possibly dates to 620-630 ce, which would make it the oldest purpose-built mosque in the world. however, some of the current structure was most likely built in the late 7th-9th centuries, as the mihrab and minaret as we know them hadn't been developed at the time.
#eritrea#architecture#worship#muslim#nmenam#my posts#people really underestimate how big of a role east africa plays in abrahamic history#in islam east africa is sort of like how europe is in christianity#in christianity people in e africa particularly modern day ethiopia & eritrea were some of the first to adopt it#in judaism some of the first jews came here via yemen#like arabic hebrew syriac etc are also in the same bigger language family as ge’ez etc#there were a lot of historical relations#(not always friendly but that’s how it is everywhere else history is history etc)#especially between the horn & southern khaleej
