Cows, Sheep, Pigs, Iron Golems (ok this wasn't something that never attacked her per se), Wandering Traders, and Villagers.

After her fifth "world" with this creature–The Mimic, as she started calling it; she let her paranoia of the villagers, of who was real and who was that "mimic", control her and she killed every villager she came across...the mimic couldn't catch her off guard if she killed everything in her path.

But now, when she saw Nurm he was with Jack. She didn't trust the villager at all. She waited for the villager to attack. To reveal its true nature

But nothing came.

When Crowley returns to London after nannying for Warlock, she begins to frequent queer venues using the name Ash, manifesting a deliberately transfeminine form. Feeling more at home in her corporation than she ever has before, she is eager to guard this treasured part of her life from her angelic and demonic counterparts. That is, until one evening, when a friend from the scene “sets her up” with a man known as Angel, whom Crowley immediately identifies as Aziraphale manifesting transmasculine characteristics. For the sake of discretion, they behave as handsome strangers to one another until they are alone at an afterparty later the same night. Crowley and Aziraphale’s attempts at physical intimacy through the ages have always been stilted, awkward and anticlimactic… but in this moment, Crowley is drawn even more strongly to Aziraphale than usual, and Aziraphale feels the same about Crowley. Both beings are truly at one with their own gender presentation and earnestly, amorously fascinated by the presentation of the other as their evening together builds to a tender, breathless climax.

SPOILERS if you haven't seen this week's episode obviously

We start off the episode with this shot of Superman with the drawn on glasses. A good homage to what Lois did in the 1980 Superman II movie...

where she not only drew the glasses but also a full suit and hat on a picture of Superman.

Next we see Jimmy waking up and seeing someone debunking his conspiracy theories on Sub-Diego.

Sub Diego was an actual place in the DC universe before the New 52 reboot. In Aquaman #15 and #16 (2003) , shown here (W: Will Pfeifer, P: Patrick Gleason, I: Christian Alamy, C: Nathan Eyring, L: Jared K. Fletcher for issue 15, Nick Napolitano for issue 16). The underwater city is actually San Diego, but is buried underwater thanks to a tidal wave and makes its first appearance in Aquaman #15 (2003). There was a lot of casualties from this.

When we get to our title its "You Will Believe A Man Can Lie" a reference to the tagline for the 1978 Superman movie.

As seen here on the poster, it says "You'll believe a man can fly".

Next we see our villain, well one of the villains, for the episode, Heatwave.

In the comics Heatwave makes his first appearance in Flash 140 (1963) (cover art by Carmine Infantino, Murphy Anderson, and Ira Schnapp). Heatwave aka Mick Rory is a Flash rogue usually acting as a rival to Captain Cold aka Leonard Snart. In MAwS, their Heatwave shares the same last name and powers, but MAwS Heatwave is gender flipped. You might have seen Heatwave in the CW DC comics shows where he is played by Dominic Purcell in The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.

Lois, later in the episode, name drops Heatwave's name. Gotta be honest when Heatwave showed up I was like is that Rampage? Cuz the MAwS design looks vaguely like Rampage.

If she does show up in MAwS, I'll talk more about her in another post, but for now, Rampage aka Karen Lou "Kitty" Faulkner, makes her first appearance in Superman #7 (1987) (full page here: W&P: John Byrne, I: Karl Kesel, C: Tom Ziuko, L: John Costanza).

Steve drags Jimmy to film his debunking Flamebird videos and references Starro who I talked about here.

Lois, later runs around with the Daily Planet police scanner trying to catch Superman and the dispatcher reports that a robbery is in progress at McGuinness Luxe Garage.

This is a nice reference to Ed McGuinness who was the artist for Superman, Action Comics, and Superman/Batman in the early 2000s. If you've seen Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, then you'll know the movie takes inspiration from his character designs in the first arc of the Superman/Batman comic series. The Superman/Batman #1 (2003) cover here is done by Ed McGuinness, Dexter Vines, and Dave Stewart. I like Ed McGuinness's pencils, very stylized.

Heatwave name drops Livewire and the Gazzo mod family. Both of whom I've talked about here and here respectively

Heatwave has been running away from Deathstroke here who has been taking our her crew. Notice that Slade Wilson doesn't have the half black half orange helmet yet that almost every Deathstroke depiction always has.

He, Amanda Waller, and the General who I totally think is General Sam Lane, Lois's dad, are fans of DBZ cuz of the scouters they're wearing.

Later in the scene we see the General again he's totally General Sam Lane. I'll talk more about him when we get a double confirmation through a name drop/reveal in a later post calling Amanda Waller, Mandy. What a fucking bold thing to say to Waller! Like damn! power move right there!

Superman and Deathstroke are fighting under a highway and we see the traffic is heading to Bludhaven!

Very good reference to my favorite character in all of pop culture, Dick Grayson aka Nightwing. Nightwing makes Bludhaven his city to protect. The city makes its first appearance in Nightwing #1 (1996) (the panel here - W: Chuck Dixon, P: Scott McDaniel, I: Karl Story, C: Roberta Tewes, L: John Costanza). Fun Bludhaven fact, its crime rate is WORST than Gotham! Also HIGHLY recommend reading the new Nightwing run cuz its fucking amazing! Won a few Eisner Awards (think the Oscars but for comic books) recently and I am not just saying that because I am a Dick Grayson fan.

Near the end of the episode, we see Lois willing to jump off a building to prove that Clark is Superman. A lot of discourse was happening online over this, but I do want to say this is pretty on brand for her to do.

In Superman II, Lois does something similar and Clark saves her. its just in MAwS, Clark flies to save her thus ruining the secret identity, while in Superman II, Clark does save her but he is still able to get away with it thanks to him playing it more subtly.

Don't know why people we're in such a fucking fit over something that Lois has done before.

In the after credits scene, Jimmy, who planned a sasquatch finding adventure with Lois and Clark, but they were dealing with their shit and Jimmy was by himself, decides to do the finding on his own and meets a giant gorilla. In the first episode Jimmy mentions an intelligent gorilla in France and my guess is this is Monsieur Mallah. You can read more about him here. OKAY. Sits in front of you . So no to me i dont think it veers to close into spoiler territory because it was SO different to what we have now so im okay with sharing :)

So originally this au was actually supposed to just be a personal art project bc when i first started having ideas for it i was having a lot of mento illness bc someone i knew was murdered + i was becoming interested in missing persons cases (kinda as a result? Not really) and i kept seeing all of these different cases where these kids just disappeared and were never seen again and to this day have never been found and it made me really sad like i wanted closure for their families so, as i do, i made a story about getting closure to cope with it

Something really funny about this au is that actually the very early stages of it were canon compliant, but somewhere along the line i changed it to be a mod au, then I changed it again to take place in the south in the 90s, but then i changed it to Missouri (my home state! I’m sure i’ve mentioned it before but Potosi is a real town in Missouri that i’ve visited multiple times and is an area i love, the creek that i mentioned luxu/gloria being dumped in is an actual creek called Breton Creek, here’s a photo of it! (Idk if i’ve mentioned it before, either, but Ira/Bia’s church is the Breton Creek Baptist Church, here’s their facebook page))

Another thing is that i originally didn’t have Ira doing all the silly bullshit that theyre doing now, i think i made an offhand joke about it to matt ONE time and i actually really liked the idea so i made it canon LMFAO, a lot of ira’s character came to me like that, i didnt think of them as being cajun until a bit in

I thought I remembered you saying something about the story originally be made to cope with things! Man, though, that sucks to have to go through; hopefully the story's helped with getting a little bit of closure, at least.

Oh, interesting that it used to be more canon-compliant! What were the original thoughts for how that'd play out? And were the ideas for the modern AU similar to what ended up actually being written or still pretty different?

Haha, characters...really are just like that sometimes. "Wait, that's what we're doing? ...Okay I guess that's what we're doing." Interesting that so much of Ira's character ended up being like that!

PH Moriarty

Actor known for his menacing, often violent roles in British gangster films, notably The Long Good Friday and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

PH Moriarty, who has died aged 86 after suffering from dementia, came late to acting as he approached 40, but made an indelible impression, most chillingly in two British gangster films. The simmering menace he brought to the screen led one critic to observe that he could “make Hannibal Lecter look like Noddy”.

Distinctive for his moustache, smart grey suit and tie, he was ever present in The Long Good Friday (1980) as Razors, henchman to Bob Hoskins’s brutal underworld property developer, Harold Shand, who seeks to build his empire through the regeneration of London’s Docklands. Moriarty is seen driving Hoskins around on a quest to discover who is threatening this ambition (it turns out to be the IRA).

After placing the barrel of a pistol in the ear of a police informer interrogated by Shand (played by Paul Barber), Razors reveals the source of his nickname. As he lifts his shirt to display endless scars on his torso, patched up by what he describes as “65 inches of stitching”, Hoskins says he is known as “the human spirograph”.

Picking up a machete, Razors tells Barber: “Now you’re going to feel what it’s like, boy.” Several slashes follow in what proves to be just one of the violent scenes that, combined with Barrie Keeffe’s intelligent script, made The Long Good Friday a high-water mark in the history of British gangster films. Moriarty is also alongside Hoskins when rival gang bosses are suspended upside down on meathooks in an abattoir.

The film set him on a career largely typecast playing such characters, but on both sides of the law. “A guy in America saw it just after it came out, rang me up, the next thing, I was over there and starring in Jaws 3-D,” said Moriarty, who played the cockney sidekick to Simon MacCorkindale’s British oceanographer and photographer in that 1983 film.

At the end of the following decade, he appeared in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998), the writer-director Guy Ritchie’s acclaimed gangsters and gamblers drama, as “Hatchet” Harry Lonsdale, a porn seller who bludgeons his enemies to death. When a criminal played by Nick Moran loses £500,000 in a card game rigged by Harry, he is given a week to pay up.

The agent Simon Drew said of Moriarty: “The actor in him could make you fear for your life. If you knew him, the scowl quickly changed to a wry smile.”

Paul Hugh Moriarty was born in Deptford, south London, the son of William Moriarty, a lorry driver, and his wife, Mary (nee Griffin). On leaving St Joseph’s Roman Catholic school at 15, he trained as a cooper at the Admiralty’s victualling yard for six years – while boxing as an amateur – before becoming a stevedore at Surrey docks, Rotherhithe, where he lost the sight of his left eye in an accident.

When the TV producer Tony Garnett was filming there for a 1978 episode of Law & Order, Moriarty’s brother-in-law, GF Newman – the writer of the gritty four-part drama questioning the judicial system – suggested him for a part. As a result, he played a prisoner in the final episode and, as there was already an actor called Paul Moriarty, he took the professional name PH Moriarty.

He was then cast as a pub bartender in the cult mods and rockers film Quadrophenia (1979) before growing a beard for the big-screen version of the banned TV play Scum (1979) to play Hunt, the borstal warder checking in Ray Winstone’s young offender in a manner that suggests the staff are as unpleasant as the inmates. “You have heard of us, Carlin, aye?” he asks as his colleague roughs up the teenager, who has assaulted an officer at a previous institution.

In a similar vein, Moriarty played one of the prison warders giving a beating to Jimmy Boyle in A Sense of Freedom (1981), based on the Glaswegian gangland murderer’s autobiography.

He became a regular on television and was clearly cast to type when he was credited as “Evil Jim Dalton” in a 1990 episode of The Paradise Club. Later, he brought menace to the Sci-Fi Channel series Dune (2000) and its sequel, Children of Dune (2003), as Gurney Halleck, a character distinctive for a whip wound on his jawline. The producers saw that the scar, combined with the actor’s damaged eye, made his face incredibly expressive, angry and sad at the same time.

Moriarty’s later films included Evil Never Dies (2014) and Rise of the Footsoldier: Origins (2021).

In 1961, Moriarty married Margaret Newman. She, their son, Mark, and daughter, Kathleen, survive him. Another son, Neil, died at three days old.

A Notice On Aleph One, And The Marathon Community

I'd normally wouldn't exactly be sharing this kind of content, but seeing as Marathon is my Number One Spot of Brainrot, and most people who have played these games in recent years are likely just on Tumblr/Twitter/their own Discord servers and not the official Aleph One Discord, the following events are basically unknown to the majority of people. So, to better archive them than to let them get lost in time.

Firstly, I should establish the main players of for the redaction:

Aaron Freed: co-director & one of many composers and general maker of Stuff for Eternal, composer and level designer for the (as of writing this) the in-works Tempus Irae Redux, alongside his work on the currently still unreleased Chronicles and Where Monsters Are In Dreams, owner of the Marathon Vidmaster Challenge Youtube channel and dozens of compositions, Marathon-related or otherwise. He is, likely alongside Adminn_1 (aka NEFX) andn Hamish (owner of the Marathon Story Page), one of the most prolific creators for Marathon.

Gregory Smith, aka Treellama: the head programmer for the Aleph One project, as well as maker of Weland (map creator), ShapeFusion (modification of logic and physics files for Marathon) and Atque (a merger and splitter for Marathon scenarios). His work, overall, has helped the community a great deal, from modernised modding tools to supporting Aleph One and expanding the Marathon engine with every update.

Solra Bizna (or just Solra): another developer for Aleph One, most notable for having helped create a proof-of-concept code to showcase how Aleph One could run at 60FPS and more, which would eventually be expanded to the current FPS settings that Aleph One now has. He has also worked on a variety of parts of Aleph One, such as Lua overlays and netscripts, all important to current functions for modern Marathon scenarios.

So, What Happened?

On the 29th of May, Solra publicly announced his departure of the Marathon Discord server, explaining that due to unexplained blockage from the Aleph One team towards Aaron's PR (pull request; a way of proposing changes made made in a fork of the original source code that could be added to the original code), with no real explanation given beyond that "treellama finds [Aaron] irritating", he feels his energy put on fixing this have been wasted, and retires to work on his lonesome.

While some buzz would be made from this departure, nothing of note would be said until the 4th of June, where Aaron would expand on the details of the situation.

This thread, still available in the Marathon Discord, would go on details about events that led to Solra leaving. In short: Aaron had been under Solra's tutelage on programming (something that has been public as around 2022-2023), with the idea that, as she explained in his departure, he would contribute in his stead and give Aaron a chance to contribute to one of his greatest contributions. However, attempts to do such a thing would be stopped by the AO team with no real reason, and any attempts to gain an understanding as to why would be stonewalled. The only real reason given is, according to treellama in a ticket request, "unresolvable personality conflicts".

Alongside this, Aaron himself would bring up a few notes in relation to Aleph One, one of which is the very reason I'm writing this post (outside of the conclusion at the end):

For context in regards to the reaction: INTERPOLATED_WORLD.cpp is what currently allows Marathon to run at FPSes higher than 20. Aaron's reaction come specifically from the (still current as of me writing this) credits of the file, which note very specifically at the start Gregory Smith (treellama). The issue raised here by Aaron is that that code was originally started by Solra as a proof-of-concept (which can be visualised here), which would then be reiterated by Treellama throughout—something he tries to use as a sort of gotcha on Aaron, as he shows that, at most, only 15-to-40 lines of code, or 17% of it, is still Solra's.

I'm unable to find when exactly the credits were added as I suck working with Github, but if a smarter person can find it, I'll be holy appreciative.

Now, to interject with my own opinion on this: no matter if there's one line, three or half in the current code that are still part of the proof-of-concept, Solra should still be correctly credited; that, or use the generic "Credits: Aleph One Team". The immediate use of Treellama's real name makes it seem to anyone who doesn't know any better that he himself made it in collaboration with the AO team, which is objectively not true. He did try and present a solution to this, which just amounted to "if Solra is bothered by this, he should reach out", which is absolutely not what should happen. Properly crediting people, no matter in what way, should be done automatically, instead of awaiting for someone to make a fuss about it. It makes you look like you don't actually care to fix things or change them. Just do it. No need to pull out statistics of how much is yours vs. Solra's. It's a waste of time.

Sadly, this is the last post made in the thread before the moderators closed it down. After this, Aaron would more or less abandon all activity in the Discord server, still working on other projects such as TIR, and is now used by other high profile creators like cassis (Liver and Onions), hypersleep (Apotheosis X) and Ryoko (Phoenix), who all shared their own sets of issues with Aaron on the thread, as a punching bag quite publicly on the Marathon Discord server.

So, What's There To Do Now?

In the most immediate, wait for the proper launch of Aleph Bet (link here), a fork of Aleph One which Aaron, Solra and a few others are working on, and show your support by downloading it. Use death of the author if you wish on ApoX and Phoenix, or never play them, or whatever. Do what you feel is necessary to show your discontent towards this behaviour from the lead developer for Aleph One. But don't cross the boundaries of insults or death threats. That is unnecessary and entirely stupid. Be better than that.
