havent posted in a while so i thought i might as well post this wip of a storyboard/animatic, as well as some ishmael design explorations.

i’ve been reading moby dick recently and i fell in love with the overall story, with all its flaws. it can be beautiful at some points but also pretty outright offensive (i guess this is expected from a story published in the 1800s)

anyway. the animatic will go along to the song “loomings” from an audio bootleg of moby dick: a musical reckoning back in 2019. (the sound quality is barebale, i can promise you that.) the song is based on first chapter of the book and the climax of the song is so fucking beautiful!!! hopefully i finish this soon so i can share the song and my love for this story.

I got to go to an artists talk with Dave Malloy after our closing performance of Great Comet so here’s an update on some news:

- He is currently working on two shows that are more commercialized/Broadway-bound. One is based off another beloved book and one is based off a movie but he’s still not allowed to say more than that about it yet.

- He wrote a musical about quarantine during quarantine but seemed very iffy about it being produced.

- He proclaimed that Moby Dick is Bad and is on creative hiatus until he can deal with all its issues, many of which interconnect (so no cast recording anytime soon)

- He’s currently in California! Continuing with Octet with nearly the whole original cast and crew!

- It looked like they recorded the talk but I haven’t seen it posted so if I do find it I’ll try to link it here!
