➵ PRIDE best describes Artem, for he takes great pride in everything he does, especially when it comes to work. He would go above and beyond, and would go to great lengths, to ensure that he is always on top of his game. His work is his pride, and his pride is his work, his entire sense of self-worth relies heavily on how well he manages to do his job right.

➵ He has a reputation of having a 99% win rate, so you could imagine how much his pride suffered when he lost in that 1% case. He felt like a failure, like everything that he has worked up to until that point, all of his achievements and success, meant nothing. And for someone, who puts so much value in his career, his success, whose pride mainly stems from his achievements and winning, that really put a dent on not just his pride, but his self worth in general.

➵ Who is he, if not a winner? Who is he, if not the best of the best? Who is he, if he can’t succeed? Would there be any point for his existence if he can’t succeeded, if he can’t become the greatest?

➵ Ultimately, Artem’s pride is his biggest motivator to do better, to be better, but it’s also what eats him up inside, it’s what pushes him over the edge, to the point that it’s hurting him.

➵ Green is the color of ENVY, and that perfectly describes Vyn to a T. Don't get him wrong though, he is not envious of someone having more money, fame, status, or materialistic items than him, far from it actually. Vyn's envy is rooted in seeing people, who have a more full filing happier life than him, especially if they are less fortunate than him.

➵ Of course, as a psychologist expert, he bares no ill well towards people who have it better than him, and on the contrary, he should be happy for those people given his profession. But yet no matter how much he tries not to, he can't help but feel envious of those people, like he resented them for having a life that he fought so hard to obtain, yet it came so natural to them.

➵ His jealousy and envy is one of the reasons why he's so meticulous with his words, never letting anyone ever get too close, for fear that he might uncover something, that he might not like.

➵ For someone who is so happy go-lucky, WRATH really does have a strong hold on Luke. But don't get it twisted, Luke is not angry at anyone at particular, more specifically so, his wrath is directed at himself.

➵ He is so angry at himself, for not being strong enough, for not being good enough, for not being smart enough, but most of all, his angry at himself for not being there for you when you needed him the most.

➵ The anger and wrath that he feels is mostly fueled due to his own shortcomings and inadequacies, and how he expresses that anger is by acting so recklessly, throwing himself into danger, sacrificing himself, again and again. He hopes that his self-sacrifice would compensate for all his failures and shortcomings, he hopes that him throwing his life away would make up the fact that he failed to protect you, failed to give you more time, failed...you.

➵ And most of all, he hopes that his self-sacrifice would help lessen the wrath inside his heart, but it never does, in fact, it only seems to ignite it further.

➵ Now this might sound predictable from the infamous playboy himself, but Marius, is driven by LUST. He likes to indulge in the pleasures of life, whether that be sexual or not, it doesn't really matter to him.

➵ For so long, Marius wanted nothing more than to be free, to live the life that he so desperately wants, and to have the freedom to make the choices that he wants. Those are his deepest desires that he lust for the most.

➵ But sadly, no matter how much Marius lusts over a life of freedom, no matter how many times he wished to indulge in a pleasurable life that not even money can buy, the universe doesn't always give us what we want.

➵ So all Marius has left is to fulfill other people's hopes and dreams, fulfilling other people desires and lust, in hopes that, that would be enough to fill the empty whole inside his heart.

Zhengxi and Guanshan snippet

This takes place during Jian Yi and He Tian's absence in highschool. It's an unattached scene, where I have a poke at Zhengxi's character as an ace/demi gay guy:

High school is about dating and experimenting and Zhengxi gets his fair share in, just by dent of being there. 

Towards the end of second year he settles enough to become slightly approachable. He has his first kiss with a girl from Band and it’s fine. Kissing is nice, sort of, or okay anyway. She's a good friend, so when she asks to go out he agrees. Why not? 

Hanging out is good, sharing interests, holding hands. Kissing is fine too, if not terribly exciting, but the groping is less so. It makes him feel cold and unreal and like he’s outside of his own body. Sex is absolutely off the table, so she breaks up with him after six weeks. It's fine. He feels fine about it and they stay good friends. A couple of other girls have a go at him, but he’s better at turning them down before anyone gets unrealistic expectations.

By contrast, the one time he and Guanshan have a drunk-tired makeout session, it’s fucking hot. It’s just kissing, but holy shit! Rolling around on the floor, pinning each other down, thighs slotted between legs, hard planes and soft skin – Zhengxi is fucking flying. 

They only do it the once and don’t ever have a go at trying anything more. They work well as friends because their taciturn natures match and their sudden explosive tempers and low tolerance for other people’s nonsense keep things fun. But it’s pretty obvious that they’re both too emotionally blocked and aggressively temperamental to get involved romantically. 

The experience does make him wonder, not least when he catches himself zoned out staring at lips and arses. It’s kind of a giant pointer that he might be more attracted to guys after all, no matter how studiously he avoids thinking about Jian Yi these days. In the end he settles on just not thinking about it whenever possible. He isn’t interested in dating anyway. He’s not attracted to other people in that way. 

Guanshan gets around though. He has this wild reckless side to him that craves some kind of hard tether, like a live wire that needs to go to ground. The grounding takes the shape of drunken hookups and it seems to work for him, although Zhengxi has his reservations sometimes. It seems like more of a pressure valve thing than an actual working solution, but what Guanshan is looking for won’t be available as long as the spectre of He Tian is still messing with his heart. Not that Guanshan will admit to anything of the kind.

Zhengxi conveniently avoids making any comparisons to his own situation.

wahhh, hello and welcome to tumblr :D!!! im so glad i enjoy my nxx polycule stuff hehe and it's been a While since ive written for them (be it for fic or hcs) so this ask came at a lovely time. without further ado, here's some:

the nxx polycule date permutation hcs

due to everybody's schedules being immensely packed all the time, all 5 of them cant go out on dates/get-togethers very often with everybody in attendance. like, when theyre All together it's often for NXX Work OR they save it for special occasions (ex. christmas, new years, any of the team's bdays)

that being said, the Top 1 most common not-everybody date permutations are: artem + mc + luke, and then marius + vyn

artem + mc + luke can meet up often and easily because artem and mc work at the same place (so they can quickly figure out when their schedules align, quickly meet up), AND all three of them LIVE IN THE SAME STELLIS CITY DISTRICT!!!

they all live in South Stellis (mc's address was mentioned in The Birth of Stellis | Tears of Themis "Behind The Scenes" Episode, and artem's and luke's can be seen easily in the Stellis Explore function) so i can imagine just like

artem and mc finishing up with work and wanting to go out to dinner together and both of them independently and intuitively understanding that on the drive to the restaurant, they should go pick up luke because if left to his own devices he'll probably only chips and a stale salad for dinner.

mc shoots luke a quick text like "let's have dinner! artem's treat!" 5 minutes prior to them arriving at his shop, and luke panics trying to find something nice to wear because if it's Artem's Treat then that means the restaurant is gonna be QUITE UPSCALE AND FANCY and he doesnt want to look like their boyfriend who they picked off the street from a dumpster because earlier today he had just so happened to be tailing a lead for a case that sent him into the forest so hes all muddy. but hes only got like two (2) sweaters that he himself finds viable for a Fancy Restaurant Date

so when mc and artem arrive to pick him up, hes wearing the blocky xmas partyland sweater. at which mc visibly winces at and at which artem internally winces at

but they all go out for a nice dinner out anyway

MEANWHILE, marius + vyn's homes are in completely different stellis city districts: orchideshine and long beach, hemingway heights respectively. and the Stellis Explore function seems to posit these two locations as pretty far-ish away from each other, yeah, BUT....

marius' PERSONAL STUDIO is right in the same neighborhood as vyn's place

i assume marius' personal studio is in this area because another thing thats in hemingway heights (that's just not mentioned in the Stellis Explore function) is Stellis University, where marius is taking his masters. so right after his classes, he can drop by his studio and destress before heading over to the CBD for work

ORRRR HE CAN DROP BY VYN'S PLACE UNANNOUNCED AND SWEEP HIM OFF HIS FEET FOR AN IMPROMPTU DATE

marius has mastered this art. he comes to learn vyn's schedule at the university, at the research center, and at his home so that he only shows up when vyn isnt busy and is most likely to actually say yes to an impromptu fancy lunch

and vyn acts like hes Bothered but he really isnt, especially when marius has the money to treat him out to the High End Pastry Places that even vyn "pastry master" richter can appreciate

basically it goes

marius, yelling on vyn's yard: hey vyn! let's go out on a date!

vyn: get off my yard

marius: PLLEEEAAASSSEEEE, i'll take you to that bougie place you like!

vyn: fine (secretly pleased to be spoiled)

that being said, while these are the most common date permutations due to the simple reason of proximity, they all still find time to meet up in different permutations and all together

vyn appreciates luke taking him out on dates to more simple places, like a family owned diner or a hole in the wall ramen place. while it's not his usual kind of place, he enjoys the food and seeing luke light up talking about the memories hes had in this particular establishment ("one time, i ate here immediately after a mission and i was still bleeding out!!" "....please take care of all open wounds before you have ramen")

marius and luke and mc often meet up online and video call to game together. sometimes artem will join in on the call, despite not being much of a gamer himself, but he just likes hearing their voices and enthusiasm and yelling in the background while he cooks or works

ARTEM AND VYN GO TO THE FARMER'S MARKET TOGETHER. theyre both culinary Geniuses after all, and together they are extremely picky about produce and honey and handicrafts like an old married couple

and of course, they all get together every once in a while when their schedules permit and have a lovely time and enjoy each other's company

bonus, what kind of dates each of their residences are best for

artem's residence: best for full-team dinners and movie marathons in his home theatre

mc's residence: best for cozy afternoons because her place is so homey!!

vyn's residence: best for full-team outdoor brunches and tea times and also if you want a touch of nature relaxing in his garden

marius' residence: best for THAT WALK-IN WINE CELLAR and also movie marathons because have you seen the wall-mounted flat screen TV in his bedroom??? phew

luke's residence: best for uhhh...if you wanna slip on stray files on the floor or stub your toe on his palette bedframe? JHFKJ JUST KIDDING, best for in-person gaming hangouts

let's set the scene: someone standing by the corner of a wall, obstructed from the view. another person is coming! quick, get in position to pop out and scare them!

vyn - very unfazed outwardly. did flinch and took a step back, but what are you talking about? he was merely waiting for the person to pop out any moment. afraid, him? why would he be? oiger didn't snap their neck, they're not a threat and he wasn't surprised they were there lol

artem - full on jumps. probably let out a yelp but they're not sure? honestly, they almost missed their queue to scare him bc he's that good at sneaking around. 50% chance you made him drop his coffee. now he's sad, buy him a coffee :C

marius - very very very prolonged scream. a little high-pitched if we're being honest. even after seeing the culprit, he will keep screaming. congrats, you are now the center of attention for making Marius von Hagen scream

luke - one of two: he doesn't jump. he's acutely aware of his surroundings and will force himself to jump just to humor the person scaring him. no one catches luke 'hypervigilance' peace off guard enough to scare him. if, by some miracle, he was actually caught off guard? punch to the face guaranteed. they're gonna walk away feeling something regardless lolol

vyn as a vampire is so interesting...

it's about the consumption and the desire of it all! he needs you. constantly. and he, being as closed off— as independent as he is, would hate every second of it. vyn would hate how he hears blood pumping through your veins, how your heart beats, pushing forth the very thing he needs to survive. and then everything shifts. it isn't about your blood anymore, but your skin. it dimples under his touch, because he holds you so desperately as he plants puncture wounds into your neck. it isn't about your blood anymore, but your voice. the way you sigh pleasantly, used to the soft sting of his bite. it isn't about your blood anymore, but your scent. vyn doesn't pick up on just the scent of sweet iron, he smells you on the coat he let you borrow. everytime he brushes past it as he enters his home, it's as if he’s passing by you, and suddenly he can't focus for the rest of the night.

and soon vyn doesn't care much for your physical attributes at all. the sweet taste of your blood still tempts him, sure, but the sound of your laugh is even sweeter. the sparkles in your eyes are almost blinding. he reminds himself that it is he who is the predator. you are supposed to be the awaiting prey. ...except it's him who feels encased in your jaws, in your sharp teeth. it's him who feels wholly, entirely, consumed by you.

i imagine in your first kiss, he handles you like spun sugar or like fine glassware. you feel the delicate brush of fangs against your lips, but they make no move to sink deeper. he doesn't care about your blood anymore, he cares about you. what other tastes do you have to offer him? are they as sweet, as tempting as your blood was? vyn has no doubt that they are, and he plans to uncover them all.

t4t xuexiao where Xiao Xingchen came down the mountain and was immediately told that being trans is WEIRD and RARE and he shouldn't let ANYONE KNOW HE'S TRANS, and then years later he ends up in bed with Xue Yang, who is also trans, and is like "Hang on, you mean it's NOT that rare, and people are just shamed into secrecy so we all think we're alone?" Xue Yang like "Yeah pretty much." Xingchen like "You mean I could have been having gay sex thiS WHOLE TIME"

Provided everyone with costumes for the NXX Halloween party, was primarily responsible for decorations

Vyn

A Halloween tradition of his is to pick a country on the map and immerse himself in their local legends and folklore the entire month

Makes Halloween-themed desserts to share with his patients, keeps a notebook with recipes given to him by the NXX members and Ogier

The type to try out various rituals the evening of Halloween to prove they don't work...but carries around protective charms in case they do

Found himself enjoying Halloween properly for the first time with the NXX, was in charge of desserts and scary stories

An unexpected bond between Vyn and Peanut

Peanut first came to Vyn's residence when this particular case was so time consuming and some organization is targeting them, so for safety they all stay in one place.

Luke thought that he couldn't stay overnight at Vyn's place cause no one will feed Peanut.

Vyn suggests bringing him here, it will be easier and Peanut can fly around at his garden.

Peanut loves watching Vyn gardening, he will perch on one of the branches and observe Vyn.

Vyn coincidentally has some snacks for birds, and he decided to give some to Peanut.

Peanut took a liking to Vyn probably because Vyn spoiled him.

Luke:"Vyn please stop feeding him seeds he will get chunky"

Peanut run(?) Fly to Vyn when Luke caught him do something naughty

Peanut: *land on Vyn's shoulder*

Vyn: ?? What did you do this time??

Imagine Peanut starts bringing random trinkets for Vyn.

Vyn appreciates it, but he seriously doesn't know what to do with all of this trinkets.

He just put it in a box, every time Peanut brought him another item, he will open the box and show Peanut all of the items Peanut brought to him.

Of course Vyn will return any item that looks important.

Marius: have any of you seen my ring??

Artem: where did you put it?

Marius: just on that table...

Luke: maybe it dropped under it?

Marius: no... I already check it

Vyn: *staring at the said ring on his hand with a proud looking Peanut*

Luke now brings Peanut to Vyn's house to give him some time to fly around freely.

Realized today that I have accepted as fact that Xue Yang has chronic pain in his hand, but I'm not sure that's actually canon? I think I assumed he would, given just HOW damaged it was combined with how the trauma seems constant and fresh.

Anyway I think he does, and I'd love to hear if others agree and any additional thoughts. What are yalls "oh wait, I forgot that was a headcanon and not explicitly stated in the source material" moments about Xue Yang and/or Yi City

This is so very niche but @colloquialcolival and I were throwing MDZS and Redacted Characters into a mixing bowl.

What came out was their idea of Sam, Quinn, and Darlin as the Yi City Trio - SongXueXiao. Darlin XXC, Sam SL, and Quinn XY

one of my favorite headcanons with little to no canon support is that xue yang and mo xuanyu were guidao jin disciples at the same time, and mxy mentioned a few times wanting to ressurect the yiling laozu to kill his mom's evil family, so when xy saw him (or rather his body) entering yi city AS the yllz, he was like "son of a bitch he actually did it"

1. "the character everyone gets wrong"

the obvious answer is jgy, but I have also written so extensively about jgy's characterization that I'm reasonably sure I don't have to repeat myself here. so I'll go with the other character whose characterization frequently leaves me wanting to chew glass when I check the tags, and that's nie huaisang

I know part of this can be blamed on medium bleed (and fatal journey but lol we do not talk about fatal journey here), but I think the common characterization of nie huaisang that I see in the tags and in fic as 1) some laser-focused mastermind crouching at the centre of a spider web pulling literally all of the narrative strings from the very beginning in order to achieve his revenge, and/or 2) as helpless babie incapable of doing any schemes or any crimes until he was so moved by nmj's death that he just selflessly sacrificed over a decade of his life in pursuit of justice, justice for da-ge!!! and neither of these bland-ass takes are interesting or particularly consistent with the novel or with what we see in cql, tbh.

characterization #1 is harder for me to prove definitively, at least right now, so let's just call it a hard headcanon that he is not this genius schemer and move on for now. (I'm working on a longer Thing for nhs and trauma in my drafts, but it's not done yet, so /waves hands, watch this space)

it's easier for me to point to clear textual and visual evidence of why characterization #2 doesn't hold up under close scrutiny just because wwx lays out so much of it for us during his scooby doo murder mystery postmortem interrogation of wwx after jgy and nmj have been sealed together in the crypt. everything that nhs does to trigger jgy's 'killing intent,' to use wwx's own words (the law in most countries calls this 'entrapment,' btw, and it is illegal, but I digress), involves unnecessary collateral damage, and I say 'unnecessary' because there is no one holding a cursed murder sword to nhs's head forcing him to take any of these actions. he could just not do any of them at any point, and go on living his life, but he doesn't. and what he does do is manipulate mxy into utilizing the sacrifice summon ritual to bring wwx back from the dead to murder the entire mo family; he does the thing that I PERSONALLY had the most difficulty dealing with as a reader sensitive to animal death, which was kill a bunch of cats to lure wwx, lwj, and the junior quartet to yi city; he is the one who ensures that the knowledge of jgy and qin su's relation to each other reaches qin su without any regard to how learning this information would impact her psychologically; and he is perfectly comfortable using lxc as his last-minute, convenient tool to kill jgy when it seems otherwise inevitable to him that jgy will walk out of the temple alive.

all of this 👆👆👆 is not the sort of thing that someone does if they are pursuing justice. nhs wants vengeance, and I am fine with that being his character's driving motivation, I have no problem with that story. I would just very much prefer it if this fandom would treat his revenge quest specifically as that--a revenge quest--and then engage with what the actual, concrete consequences of realizing that revenge quest are for nhs in canon. in short: nmj is not at peace; the one person in his life who had made some attempt to understand him, care for him, and advocate on his behalf to nmj, is now dead, because he killed him; nmj's remaining sworn brother will certainly not be stepping up to provide him assistance as nie-zongzhu or xiandu from seclusion; and none of his remaining friends from childhood trust him. post-canon nhs, whether sauntering away from the guanyin temple as he does in the novel, or trudging away with a thousand-yard shellshocked stare on his face as he does in the drama, essentially has his san-ge's bloody hat for company henceforth, and that's it. that's depressing, and lonely.

6. "which ship fans are the most annoying?"

wangxian lol at least on tumblr. x!cheng as a ship drives me nuts and I can't stand it, but x!cheng shippers themselves are fine. honestly it's just the wangxian fans that make me want to blacklist the ship altogether.

22. "your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores"

huh! I don't know that I have one that my little corner of the fandom doesn't pay attention to? I suppose something I wish we speculated on more in the form of fic or art or w/e is meng yao's time in qishan with wen ruohan, because I am crawling up the walls in my eagerness to know how meng yao became the only person able to approach wen ruohan's throne not on his knees. I want to know how meng yao becomes someone wen ruohan actively wants to protect from harm in that final nightless city confrontation between him and nie mingjue, while meng yao is actively undermining his battlefield advantages through sending intelligence to lxc.

I just have so many questions!!

23. "ship you've unwillingly come around to"

I don't think it is fair to say that I have 'come around' to this particular ship because I still very much do not like 99.9% of fic and art that feature it, but I read one romantic 3zun fic rec'd to me by @poorlittleyaoyao that absolutely left me in emotional tatters. but that's it, that was ONE fic, and I think I mainly vibed with it so hard because the principle romance at work was xiyao. but even the n!eyao still left me feeling "oh 🥺" which I for sure was not expecting lmao.

edit: mea culpa @thymianne !! the fic is called 'favor' by venndaai (aka henshengs here on tumblr), and it is a hunger games AU that leans extremely hard into all of the messy, ugly feelings and actions that you would expect from a hunger games AU. you will absolutely suffer! enjoy it.
