For your MLP world, does everyone have a species swap or just a few :0?

Some of the pillars of equestria are swapped for a different species that correlates to part of their rewritten backstories, which my friend Ori and I are exploring in our world building document along with my sketch sheets. The others are getting more design flourishes with their established species:

Starswirl and Stygian: classical unicorn (long tail and cloven hooves)

Somnambula: Bat pony

Mistmane: Kirin

Flash Magnus: Pegasus pony

Rockhoof and Meadowbrook: Earth pony

All the pillars with the exception of Stygian are larger and/or taller then your average modern equestrian pony citizen to emphasize that they were "legends" during their time and because there was so much danger and strife in the past.

Pillars Redesign + Stygian!! Theyre canon designs are SO boring, i had to at least make em all special meow meows

Starswirl the Bearded: Kept his og design, but more magically? His right eye has no pupils and he has a wing on the left side of his body(like a half alicorn situation) Somnambula: Made her a sphinx as well! I didn't really like her outfit, so I made it more accurate to ancient egyptian wear, same with her hair

Mistmane: She is a Qilin, which is basically a Chinese dragon-horse. Her species is an ancestor of modern Kirin.

Rockhoof: Based his design on more traditional Norse attire. He is based on the Sleipnir, an eight-legged horse.

Meadowbrook: In one episode she was called a unicorn, so thats what I did lol. She is based off the Kongo creature Adaba, which is a unicorn with two horns.

Flash Magnus: Didn't change him much, but I did give him burn scars from his fight with the dragons. That's why his cutie mark is smudged. He is an ancestor of Flash Sentry.

Stygian/Pony of Shadows: After his reformation, I made his body have marks from his form as the Pony of Shadows. Also, said Pony of Shadows is an Umbrum AND smaller(Like what happened to Crona in Soul Eater)

So, Pillars 1/? next ! (I am soon beginning to do the mane 6, I have their species but I'm checking if they "fit" with the episodes I'm planning… Cause I decided "And what if I shuffle the episode by putting them in random season and only allowing me to move them after to have around the same number of episodes by seasons?")

After the reign of Grogar the terrible, multiple monsters roamed the world. Some more dangerous than the others. Amongst the worst are the Windigoos. Using the power of discord and animosity between ponykind, they froze the ground and anyone standing in their paths… Ponies tried to run away from them, find a new territory. Bu wherever they ran, the windigoos followed. That until the events of Hearth's Warming, where three tribe leaders and their companions managed to get the creatures to run away, but nopony knew how or why. It is a few years later than Stygian, a triton found and raised by Starswirl the bearded, found the reason. An echo in the nature of the different ponies, reasonnating in the presence of their different abilities. Despite the alicorn's doubts, they formed a group containing ponies of all subspecies. -Starswirl the Bearded, the only adult alicorn at the time and most powerful sorcerer of all Equus. -Clover the Clever, his kirin disciple. A powerful witch and friend of the princess Puddinghead. -Stygian, the only triton not in ocean and thus the only one they know. -Flash Magnus, a legendary unicorn soldier and often-time guard of the alicorns. -Somnambula the earth pony hero of the land from which she has the name. -Rockhoof the crystal pony hero who saved his town from a volcano. -Mistmane the older bat pony hero, whose kindness only equal her previous beauty. -Meadowbrook the legendary pegasus healer.

Together, they managed to make the Windigoos disappear before fighting multiple threats of the world before disappearing, a few decades before the alicorn sisters became princesses of all of Equestria, the united kingdom of ponies.

Next post (that will feature a drawing of a sleeping-pony-pile) will be on the group dynamic, before going on a character-by-character (or possibly two-by-two) post to talk about their story (pre-apparition ofc) and type of pony characteristics.

Mage Meadowbrook!

For anyone that doesn't know, Earth Ponies are based off real horse breeds. Meadowbrook is based off a blue roan! I love her original design, so apart from changing her color palette, I wanted to keep her roughly the same. I also definitely didn't want to remove her hair texture. I did give her bangs and baby hairs because I thought they were cute.

Overall, her story hasn't changed much. She's one of my favorite pillars, and it's interesting when you look back at some of the prior seasons and see just how much she was foreshadowed. Not nearly as much as Starswirl, but she was mentioned quite a bit. I believe she was mentioned before this, but I know for a fact Starlight claimed her staff was one of Mage Meadowbrook's enchanted items, which Twilight later calls her out, saying that Mage Meadowbrook only had 8 enchanted items, not 9. The other mentions were just books, but it's still interesting nonetheless.
