Leroy Wins Second GP in Britain
Defeats De La Iglesia to book ticket to GP Final
November 13, 2022
SHEFFIELD, GB – Jean-Jacques Leroy of Canada held off Guang-hong de la Iglesia to win the Grand Prix MK John Wilson Trophy. The 25-year-old scored 102.75 for his short, 210.54 for his free and 313.59 overall. His free and overall scores are the highest of the season. “I have a bit of work to do with my short, but I was happy with my free,” said the three-time Four Continents Champion. “I’m proud of my skates and the win, and I’m looking forward to the Final in December.”
Guang-hong de la Iglesia of China had a very solid second place finish. The 23-year-old scored 100.26 for his short, 207.07 for his free and 307.33 overall. “Obviously, a win would have been great, but I’m fine with how I skated,” said the two-time World medalist. “I have some work to do before my second Grand Prix, but I’m happy with what I did here.”
Adam Loughton of Great Britain made the hometown crowd happy winning the bronze. The 26-year-old scored 96.42 for his short, 194.61 for his free, and 291.03 overall. It is his second GP medal of the season after winning bronze at Skate Canada. “I’m thrilled with this skate and to win a second GP bronze medal,” he said to reporters. “It’s a dream for me to be looking at being first alternate. I’m excited for the rest of the season.”
Leroy has booked his ticket to his sixth GP Final. De la Iglesia will be competing next at the GP Espoo. Loughton’s next competition will be British Nationals, where will likely be winning his fifth National title.
