Around 20 years ago (the year 2000 AD), I was 18 years old & participating in the @dmc_world Pune regional #DJ battles. I knew that the penultimate person to impress in the Taj Blue Diamond club was none other than one of the 3 judges - @akbarsami1. For in that era, #AkbarSami was the #epitome of what high quality #DJing & #clubbing was all about 👌🏽 I won that battle and I'll never forget the way how he cheered for me through my set & encouraged me with inspiring words for my bright future. He ended the party by spinning beautiful #house & #tribal music on wax, cementing it as the theme for my victory laps that night 🏆 20 years later, my life comes once again at a #fullcircle tonight, as I have the once in a lifetime opportunity to host Akbar as the 201st featured guest at #mixtapedmumbai ❤️ And after a lifetime of ridiculous success & fame in Bollywood, the Maestro has chosen @denbandra TONIGHT to go back to his #underground #music roots 🎧 So if you may allow me, let me openly declare this - "MIXTAPED! 201 IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PARTY IN THE HISTORY OF BOMBAY NIGHTLIFE FOR 2020". When people mostly ask me for the reason behind the dearth of classic #DJs in the scene, the basic premise of my answer is based on the lack of high calibre idols who they choose to make the north star of their careers 🌟 @djivanindia is one of the key living masters of India that every DJ - resident or touring - can pick classic professional attributes & eternal truths of the trade from. We started a new #initiative last night at #mixtapedmumbai. Around a year ago, I was chatting with Karan Gonsalves aka #keylow about how bad the #payment scenario was in the city for #DJs & #artists. With the current low pay grade status quo of events, artist management & promoter commissions, the #earnings that a performer makes at the end of a brilliant #party most of the time isn't worthwhile. So Karan suggested an idea where attendees would be able to show their #appreciation for the good time they had to the artist directly - in any anonymous denomination - through #PayTM. We believe this is a strong idea for change & henceforth, you will be finding these posters in the toilets & various corners of @denbandra at every Mixtaped! event.
