THEY'RE IN THEIR FUCKING PJS
Of course Hayata is the only one in uniform, that's so like him. I bet he fucking sleeps in it.

I saw a review of the original Ultraman that says Ide is the best, and 4 episodes in I'm starting to agree, the guy has so much personality, in contrast with Hayata, who is a carton cutout (seriously, I have problems distinguishing him from the Commander)

Ide, by contrast, takes his job seriously and is always trying to be the best patrolman he can. He's used to things going wrong for him in the most hilarious manner possible, but he still wishes, even just once, to pull off some daring plan perfectly.
Arashi is aware of his status as one of the Science Patrol's resident Funny Chaps™, but he doesn't mind. He keeps doing what he does best- fighting giant monsters with wild enthusiasm, generally- and life is good. He's also quite a good barbecue chef.

File #7 Zarab (1-Dimensional Shapeshifting Lifeform)
[-Transcript-]
"Now you claim that the purpose of the SSSP is to combat and study these supernatural creatures that threaten our world."
"Correct."
"Well I find that hard to believe Mr Ide. Everytime one of those things come outta the woodwork the SSSP sits around until the uh...what do you call it."
"Um, we call it the Ultraman."
"yes, the Ultraman. The SSSP again and again waits for the assistance of the Ultraman...A Supernatural creature... the very thing the SSSP is supposed to combat."
"Yes well we have reason to believe the Ultraman is benevolent."
"Benevolent you say, and how do you know that, the thing only shows up for three minutes to fight something and then leaves, it doesn't talk it doesn't communicate at all! How do you know the thing isn't just clearing out the area for IT'S invasion."
[-Transcript cuts out-]
Last night the SSSP had to present a case on why it should keep it's funding after it's lack of action during last week's encounter with Greenmons, however in the middle of the hearing all electronics broke down. An entity known as Zarab revealed itself as it slithered it's shadow-like body across the walls.
Zarab claimed to have knowledge on the Ultraman, that it's very existence threatens the universe, and the next time he shows up the Saturn Z missile should be launched.
Mitsuhiro Ide told the alien that not only is Saturn Z a secret, but they wouldn't be able to replicate the material for months, and even if they had it now he doubts what Zarab says about Ultraman and needs more convincing.
Finally he asked the alien of its identity to which it replied "Curiosity killed the cat" and then promptly disappeared.
Hours later Ultraman inexplicably emerged in the middle of the city causing more copious amounts of damage (to Ide's chagrin) or at least that's what we thought, as after it's rampage the real Ultraman emerged to fight it off.
During their fight, we now know that Zarab can only take a physical form if it replicates someone else's. Of course after three minutes the alien was promptly vanquished and Ultraman disappeared. Ide does note the apparent physical changes in the real Ultraman's body compared to his last appearance, changes such as an elongated middle eye.
R.I.P. Shin Hayata, we couldn't afford a funeral because we spent most of our funding on Saturn Z
(Wait I never fought Zarab - Shin Hayata)

Today’s character that selfshippers should consider F/O-ing is:
Mitsuhiro Ide from Ultraman (1966)!

There are two more episodes of Ultraman (1966) left before I finish it and start Ultraseven, but fuck dude. That Geronimon episode was a lot. Pigmon's sacrifice, rematches against some previous Kaiju, Ide having his whole crisis about the SSSP being useless because of Ultraman, then getting his moment of victory and validation at the end when HE takes out Geronimon with his new gadget. A lot of Ultra episodes feel very self contained but this one really felt like they knew there was an ending coming and they wanted to give some closure to the other SSSP members, since the finale will probably be more preoccupied with Ultraman and Hayata.
I think I need to take a break. That episode was a lot

The english dub of the Ultraman episode “My Home is the Earth” rather radically changes the ending

To instead have Ide joyfully claim that Jamila was finally recognized for his accomplishments

File #6 Greenmons (Energy consuming Flora)
SSSP has recently come into possession of a biologically engineered flora, that of which consumes radioactive substances. When Officer Hayata entered the testing chamber at 12:00 PM the organism had a bizarre reaction to him, seemingly trying its hardest to break out of its containment and lunge at him all due to his presence, this strange behavior resulted in Hayata staying in the test chamber over night with Chief Scientific Researcher Mitsuhiro Ide in order to study the phenomenon. At 3:00 PM Hayata was required to physically interact with the organism, which then rapidly consumed him and broke out of its containment. While Mitsuhiro Ide was frightened of this occurrence Greenmons bizarrely ignored him and managed to escape the building, left on the floor of the test chamber after Hayata’s unfortunate end was the β Capsule; drained of all energy and rapidly deteriorating. After being placed within a specially designed capsule it was deduced that Hayata must have stolen the β Capsule for which he would be severely punished if he weren’t dead. Mitsuhiro Ide was unfortunately not happy about the news that his pay would increase due to the absence of a SSSP member, and in his grief began to theorize why Greenmons fully consumed Hayata and not the β Capsule. A series of murders would ensue the next day, with globs of a substance identical in composition to Greenmons strewn across the scenes.
SSSP Captain Muramatsu (ID reference given) Would seemingly disappear, last seen around the test chamber holding the β Capsule which would also be found missing directly afterwards.
Greenmons would reappear later that night, larger then anticipated and causing damage to the City Center: SSSP Members fighting the monster in the area reported of a bizarre red light appearing in the air, dropping an object onto Greenmons and then promptly disappearing, after the strange occurrence the human like skull centered on top of the head of the creature would sink into the body; Ultraman would then burst out of the creature, glowing the same red and showing the same brutish behavior as seen during its fight with Baltan, though this time very clearly in a weakened state. The fight between Ultraman and Greenmons was brief, and only left an exhausted Ultraman standing in the city.
(THAT SHIT WAS FUCKED -Shin Hayata)
(…Agreed -Him)
