Amy McGrath knows the image Mitch McConnell has: the steely, cold-but-effective master of the Senate. The tactician who will win at all costs, and who has quietly gone about enacting major pieces of President Donald Trump’s agenda and filling the federal bench with Trump appointees.

Trump: Promises Made. Promises Broken.

The problem, McGrath says, is that this is exactly backwards: The majority leader is the one preventing many of Trump’s central 2016 campaign promises from becoming reality.

“For voters, when they cast a vote for Donald Trump, he said a lot of big things,” McGrath said in an interview for POLITICO’s Women Rule podcast. 

“He said, ‘We’re going to do big things on infrastructure.’ 

He said, ‘I’m going to take it to the pharmaceutical industries and I’m going to bring down drug prices.’ 

He said he was going to fix healthcare. 

He said all of these things, and for a lot of those things, they haven’t gotten done actually because of Mitch McConnell.”

“He has actually said a few fairly bipartisan, measured things — like, hey, let’s reimport drugs across the border from Canada. Hey, let’s have Medicare renegotiate prices,” McGrath said. “Who stops all that? Mitch McConnell does, folks. Why? Because he gets the most money from big pharma than any other member of Congress, at least in the last cycle.”

Following the House of Representatives' vote to impeach President Donald Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, a new poll from Politico and Morning Consult shows a majority of respondents supporting the articles of impeachment, Trump's impeachment and his removal from office.

Americans are against #MoscowMitch and Senate Republican Scam Trial: without witnesses, documents or evidence

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has signaled he wants as speedy a trial as possible to acquit Trump, telling reporters last week he was "not an impartial juror," since impeachment was a political, not a judicial process.

Senate Democrats, on the other hand, want to be able to call witnesses and enter new documents during the record as they try to press their case against Trump. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suggested this week that the House would withhold transmission of the articles of impeachment to the Senate until they determined what format the Senate trial would take.

McConnell said Thursday that negotiations with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer over a Senate trial were at an "impasse."

A majority of the poll's respondents believed the Senate should call more witnesses during the trial given the failure of some witnesses to testify during the impeachment inquiry.

“54 percent supported the calling of more witnesses, 27% said the Senate should not call more witnesses, and 19% didn't know or had no opinion.”

#MoscowMitch who has refused to fund election security since the 2016 election and protected Trump — conveniently has a change of heart before the media reports that Trump asked another government — the Ukraine to help him win the 2020 election by creating dirt on Joe Biden and his son Hunter — with the help of Rudy Giuliani and AG  William Barr.

It’s as if McConnell knew ahead of time about Trump’s involvement in  #WhistleblowerGate & #UkraineGate.
