Top Ten Assassins in Fantasy Literature You Need to Know About
I’d hazard a guess and say we’ve all thought about hiring an assassin from time to time, especially when someone nicks the last digestive biscuit. But alas, they don’t often pop up in the Yellow Pages, and frankly, they don’t come cheap. If you, like me, have a morbid fascination with these masters of shadow and intrigue, you’ll likely find these ten fantasy literature assassins a delightful…

I’m Joe! 28, He/Him
Fantasy and Sci-fi are the main goings on round here.
I’m a DM who’s been running a weekly homebrew game since 2019, though I’ve been a lover of ttrpg’s for a decade now. Im an artist and a writer and you can find examples of both here.
My blog is “Multifandom” I suppose. My interests aren’t singular and the contents of this blog reflect that. Some favorites include: The Gentleman Bastard Sequence, Malazan Series, Mistborn series. I love Critical Role, TAZ, Dimension 20, too many Anime to name, Drawfee, Mass effect, dragon age, the Witcher, Destiny 2, Baldurs Gate 3 and so on!
By and large just… lots of Fantasy and Scifi. I do my best to tag.

I love this.
Note to self: next time I start reading a book on an already established universe, re-read the first books.
#carol reads#mistborn#brandon sanderson#i need to reread era 1#but i think i like this one better#it has dumb and dumbass vibes (like Locke and Jean from the Gentleman bastards) but there's actually good female characters!#actually the comparison with The Gentleman Bastards is good. i just love it!

book recommendations?
-@walmart-the-official
-Literally anything by Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn, Stormlight Archives, Warbreaker, I've read almost every single one of his books multiple times and they never disappoint.)
-I also really love The Gentleman Bastards series by Scott Lynch (The Lies of Locke Lamora) HIGHLY recommend that one. It's really fun.
-if you are really strong. and have a lot of willpower. The Wheel of Time. but it is not for the faint of heart, because it's very slow at points. Pays off eventually. Better on rereads though :D
-I'm also reading Good Omens again rn, so if you haven't yet read that you totally should. :)
I only really read fantasy so idk if these are things you're interested in lol, but hope this helped!

Getting into reading a lot over the last year, specifically fantasy, makes me all the more baffled that Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire was somehow the series that was chosen to be adapted into the first big budget, prestige TV show.
And thats not to say that I dont/didnt enjoy both reading and watching (up until the last season) Game of Thrones and the A Song of Ice and Fire series. They are quite good. But. The book series is occasionally *incredibly* dry, characters are killed for shock value just as often as plot progression, and most importantly it was (and remains) unfinished, with the 5th of 7 total books only being published the same year the series debuted and zero books of the series published since.
Now, granted, my introduction into serious fantasy reading is still in its infancy, as Ive really only recently stepped out of Brandon Sandersons Cosemere over the last month or so, but there are so many (imo) better and FINISHED fantasy sagas out there.
The Stories from Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin , The Mistborn Series by the aforementioned Brandon Sanderson, The First Law series by Joe Ambercrombie (if you wanna keep the grimdark and the unfinished at the time of debut of Game of Thrones), The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb, The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. All at least started four or more years prior to the debut of Game of Thrones and all were finished by the time the final season of Game of Thrones aired (if not years or decades before). And thats just off the top of my head. Unfinished and better is also the Gentleman Bastard series by Scott Lynch and the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. There are also options like Lord of the Rings, which obviously had already been really successful movies, but as evidenced by the success of The Rings of Power had a fanbase interested in a more detailed telling of stories in that world.
It just feels like such a baffling decision to hitch your wagon to an unfinished series with a comparatively pretty generic world and no real magic system to speak of, with only a handful of truly interesting characters.
#I feel like I should tag this but what do I even tag it as?#Thoughts?#My thougts#I usually dont post text posts like this#hot literary takes

I remembered more and this might become less „oddly specific“, but we’ll see:
Gentleman Bastards
Read the first one, tried the second one, decided that the „gentled animals“ is a No for me. There’s no reason for it, just cut fucking animal cruelty. (Ntm that the second book meanders like hell)
Brandon Sanderson (in general, but I tried Mistborn):
The religious background.
Anything by Holly Black:
Because she’s friends with Cassandra Clare
Stuff by Rick Riordan:
After Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus, which I ended zip reading before (in part for class)
Because he trashed the movies, made a statement about never giving the rights for an adaptation again, and now there’s going to be a series. (I know a lot of people hate the movies, and he’s free to do the same, but I’d say it’s not professional to make that dislike public.) No hate against the series btw.
Oddly specific reasons why I stopped reading popular book series
Six of Crows -> Kaz gets introduced with the famous line of “Kaz Brekker doesn’t/didn’t need a reason” and then it goes on to show you how he absolutely needs one. There has to be some kind of profit gained for him, ntm that that line does not correspond at all with the seres of events that then followed. -> the voice for Kaz in the audiobook is creepy given he’s supposed to be a teenager -> he takes the job for the ice prison thingy without asking when the deadline is for it.
Twilight, second book, which has a title, I’m sure: -> prologue opens with something like “.. there was a good chance that we’d die here” said by Bella about herself and Edward; I knew that there would be two more books, so they would not die. Tension dead!
Feel free to add your own, I’m curious

The Cosmere fandom turned the word "maladroitly" into a meme after Mistborn, but has anyone realised how much Scott Lynch uses the word "legerdemain"? Now that I've noticed it, I can't stop noticing it.
