if i could write modern-setting-with-no-power AU where Zoro and Perona are both famous, but the public in general don't know they're siblings, best believe i'd make one where Zoro shows up in Perona's business account like this not because he wants to be perceived as a loving brother but because if he had to fight his way up tooth and nail (literally physically) to have no-lose-streaks reputation as "MMA Fighter" then might as well get comfortable with scaring the shit out of people with threats context-not-provided whatsoever*
(* Perona's been followed by creepy stalkers so he becomes her personal bodyguard for a whole week while they wait for their rich-as-fuck dad, Mihawk, to do something about it)
Zoro's full pic below ↓

(reference pose from that picture of Mackenyu Arata holding up card of Perona btw)

I think the red hair pirates would be obsessed with S-Hawk too! Especially the main group who've known Mihawk through his teenage marine hunting phase.
Benn would know they are walking on thin ice but look at him! He’s a little baby Mihawk! Look at his little uniform shirt tucked into his little shorts. Every angry and threatening expression s-hawk could make would mean nothing to a crew that has seen the real thing live and in color. It would just be adorable like look at his little frown! His glare! The threat of disembodiment in his eyes! Adorable
Mihawk is very uncomfortable with how much the red hair pirates fawn over and adore what is essentially a manufactured baby him. But yet also somehow touched? By it. He’ll kill everyone and then himself before he admits it tho
Yasopp, who actually did know a shorter 19 year old Mihawk, would ask him if he was that adorable but tiny (still can't comprehend that the seraphim are infact giant) as a child and if he had any pictures, and Mihawk almost takes his head.

WARLORD WORKPLACE
Part 3
Wandering through Marine HQ, in restricted areas, at midnight.
Crocodile: Down the hall, quietly talking into a transponder. "And I don't want to hear from you again. It's over Dragon."
Mihawk: Wandering over having watched the entire scene. "Having troubles?"
Crocodile: "You could say that. A difficult ex that refuses to let go."
Mihawk: "Ah. I have one of those. Mine comes in red. Is that why you joined this... Warlord affair?"
Crocodile: "In part... I just, needed a moment to rebuild myself. And you?"
Mihawk: "The Marines slaughtered my people and destroyed my home as a child and as far as I know I'm the only one alive so I am slowly hunting down each and every single one of them that did me wrong. But mostly because I saw you involved, and I do precisely what I want."
Crocodile: "You just come right out and say whatever don't you. Come on. Let's find some good alcohol and you can tell me more about your home."
Pt 2 -> Pt 3 -> Pt 4

One Piece X Labyrinth!!!
No asked for it but I had that thought literally as I was going sleep and knew I needed to write my little thought about it.
A nice little blended MiShanks family and Luffy is youngest at 2/3 and Ace and Sabo are the eldest at 18. Zoro is 5/6 and Perona is 11/12ish
Ace is late getting home after spending the afternoon with him at the park and forget that Mihawk and Shanks are having a date night and he's the one looking after Luffy what he's annoyed about.
Sabo away for the weekend, both Perona and Zoro are having sleepover at other people's houses. Zoro at having one with Kuina and Tashigi, their cousins, at Kunia home. While Perona is having one with Nojiko at Bell-mère.
Ace is complaining that it's not fair he's the one having to look after Lu, he didn't ask for another brother.
Once Mihawk and Shanks have left, Luffy being the ball of energy he is, is annoying Ace even more while trying to get the young boy to go to bed.
Whe he does he realises that Luffy has taken one his more prized/sentimental soft toy, one from Rouge, from his room and loses the rest of his patience and goes onto the Luffy and sees he awake with the soft toy smiling like he did nothing wrong and Ace tells Luffy 'He wishes that the goblin king would take you away right now' which cause Lu to cry and Ace feeling a little sorry comforts him a little before taking his soft toy back, holding it close.
Then there a loud bang from the thunderstorm and Luffy starts crying but Ace ignores him till the lights flickers and it goes silent.
Concerned by the sudden silence Ace goes to check on Luffy to find that he is not bed and noises are coming from all around the room until the window doors brust open and an owl flys in, so Ace covers his face to protect himself from claws and wings.
Soon standing in front of him, is a tall blonde on black outfit.
Marco is the Goblin King, cause birds, plus him in all the outfits, especially the tight one kind of glorious to think about. Him singing "Magic Dance" is hilarious especially doing it with Luffy.
Marco then takes Luffy, as Ace had wished him way but Ace tries to bargains, that he didn't mean it but Marco tells him a wish a wish and says if he wants his little brother then he'll have to run/defeat the labyrinth to get him which Ace accepts to do.
Ace runs the labyrinth complaining that times that it wasn't fair, but he does met people that are willing to help him defeat Marco.
The weird fire bird things, they still creep me out in mid-30, are either Blackbeard pirates or maybe Doffy crew.
Thatch or Deuce Mask is Hoggles, I can't decide who works better for that role. Little Oars Jr as Ludo, Vista as Sir Didymus and Ambrosia is still a dog.
The ballroom scene has Ace on a suit version of the dress, with big puffy shoulder pads and sleeves, Marco watching him as Ace is looking around trying to find his out of the ballroom and until Marco starts dancing with him, trying to seduce him, until the clock starts chiming making Ace starts to panic as he loses time.
When Ace breaks out of the illusion after eating the poisoned/enchanted food that he was given, he knows that there isn't much time left and makes his way to the centre of the labyrinth.
Luffy while in the care of the goblins, somehow manages to do the Luffy Effect on them with his big bright smile.
When Ace finally confronts Marco, he offers Ace all he could ever want and all he has to is love, fear and obey him, to which Ace says You have no power over me and get Luffy back.
When they are back in their home, Ace goes to check on Luffy and finds him asleep, so Ace just tucks him back in and gives him the soft toy back to cuddle with.
Then Ace goes back to his room and sees Thatch or Deuce Mask, Vista, Oars Jr and goblins in his mirror saying he always need his friends and they have a party.
Marco is outside in bird form watching.

Lost and Found | Mishanks x Reader
Characters: Mihawk, Shanks, Reader, and a brief mention of the Red Hair Pirates Warnings: Brief mentions of trauma but nothing in detail, fear of the ocean and ships are also briefly mentioned, reader can be gender neutral but 'sweetheart' and 'darling' are used as terms of endearment (if I've missed anything please let me know) Word count: 2.1k
Tumblr media
You were shivering. It still felt like you were underwater, pushed by harsh hands and left to drown. How could they do that to you? Your mind is frantic with panic. You can't breathe.
You feel a hand on the side of your face, except this hand is gentle. You furrow your brow as your mind refuses to register the fact you're in different surroundings now. The hand brushes your hair away from your forehead. A gentle voice makes a shushing sound and you hear a door being opened in the background. The hand leaves your face and you barely make out the silhouette of a man getting up to leave. You grab his arm.
"Please, don't do this to me. I'm begging you. Just don't do this." You plead, voice panicked.
You still can't make out his face, the only thing that registers in your mind is a flash of red. You then fall back into exhaustion, eyes finally closing and mind at rest.
You wake again to a cold compress being placed on your forehead. It is calmer this time, and while the clutches of ill health are still nipping at your heels, it is nowhere near the panicked delirium of what was before. You register your surroundings more this time. You're on a bed, in a room with a fireplace that is currently blazing away, and old, stone walls that give a hint of the grandeur of the room. You feel the presence of a man beside you as you become more conscious of your surroundings.
You startle a little as you make eye contact with yellow eyes. They seem to stare as if dissecting you but carry an air of indifference at the same time. You wonder how the man before you pulls it off.
"What do you remember?" He asks you, tone flat and straightforward.
You're taken aback at the question. He offered you nothing to begin with. Not his name, or any information of your whereabouts. However, you seem to be in a decent position from the risk assessment you can pull together from such little knowledge of the situation.
You decide to answer truthfully.
"The sea…" You weakly respond, and then clear your throat, "I remember being in the sea and then I remember being here. There was a man with red hair, but I don't recall anything else."
He nods in acknowledgement of your words.
"As I suspected. You had a fever, which seems to have broken this morning. I advise you to rest for now, and know that you are safe here." He simply states, rising and going to leave the room.
"Wait! What's your name?" You ask, mind needing at least a small bit of information.
The stranger raises his eyebrow at you but replies nonetheless, "Dracule Mihawk."
You look over him once more and simply respond, "Thank you, Mihawk."
He nods in acknowledgement once again and takes his leave.
Turns out Mihawk was right. Your fever had gotten much better, and you were much more aware of your environment now. You currently had a mug of tea in hand, brought to you by the red-haired man who had made himself known as Shanks. He smiles warmly at you as he sits next to your bed. He's genuine, you can tell somehow. He has the sort of warmth that seems to light his whole soul. He's telling you a tale, and you're immediately taken in by his demeanour. In fact, you're genuinely humoured by the man.
"So then I told him, don't you ever threaten my friends… and then-" He tells you, cut off by a voice at the doorway.
"Yes I'm sure your stories of grandeur are impressive Red-Hair." Mihawk snarkily says, leant up against the doorway, with his arms crossed. Shanks shakes his head, albeit fondly.
"Oh come on Hawk-Eyes! You want to share some stories too?" He cheekily replies, his grin wide and eyes sparkling with mischief.
Mihawk rolls his eyes but then takes a seat next to Shanks. Shanks carries on in his cheeky manner, and gently nudges the other, head coming to settle on his shoulder. You realise then that both these men might be more. In fact, your eyes settle down to the matching rings on their respective fingers. Upon your silent revelation, Shanks' grin seems to grow impossibly wider.
"Best kept pirate secret sweetheart, don't feel like you're missing out." He tells you, giving you a wink in the process.
Your recovery was slow. It took a whole two weeks before you were well enough to leave the bed for more than a couple of hours at a time. The men you had met were nothing but patient and kind, and you had even started to warm to Mihawk's coldness. A coldness that was more stable than anything, finding comfort in the self-assured air he carried around him. No need to feel anxious when he was so upfront in his behaviour. You had spent a few evenings simply in his presence. He had left a book next to your bedside which you had finished quickly, and had then realised your bibliophile nature when you would indulge him in conversations about plot devices and character tropes. It’s in one of these sessions that your relationship with him develops into something more.
You immediately change and curl in on yourself. The air in the room changes and you can feel the infection of panic start to seep into your being. You do your best to remain calm.
"You're pirates." You simply announce, starting to shake slightly.
The pair share a look but Mihawk decides to act first.
"Yes we are," He confirms, "but I did not lie when I said you were safe here. I am a man of my word."
You feel sick. Sure, these men have shown you nothing but kindness, you couldn't deny that, but pirates? Pirates you were scared of, in fact, terrified of. You've hurt too much to let your guard down now.
"Sweetheart," Shanks starts, causing you to flinch, "it's okay."
He puts his arm up to show you he means no harm and keeps his eyes connected to yours. He carefully takes one of the blankets laid before you and adjusts it back around you.
"I… I don't trust pirates." You hesitantly tell them.
Shanks reacts with nothing but compassion.
"Then you're a smart girl." He replies, "Like good and bad men, there's good and bad pirates, and we're some of the better bunch. Sure, Mihawk here can be a little grouchy, but he's not that scary after all."
The man in question sighs a little but acquiesces nonetheless.
"You're in my home, surely that is trust enough? I could've left you there as you washed up on the shore of this island but I did not. Surely, it would be a waste to be unkind to you now?" Mihawk questions and Shanks gives him a dubious look.
You're quiet for a second, and while the shaking does not stop, you find the strength in you to reply.
"It would be, but I'm still scared." You meekly speak, and you can see in Shanks' face his heartstrings are being pulled.
"Let us help you, sweetheart." He bargains, "And we'll earn your complete trust… I'm sure of it."
You nod and the energy of the room fills with warmth once again.
Mihawk lets out another sigh, "Well Red-Hair, you do seem to collect your strays."
"Shut it Hawk Eyes." Shanks fondly responds.
You’re ranting again. Mihawk dutifully listens on while he sips from a glass of wine. A vintage no doubt, far too sophisticated for you to even fathom a guess at the year or location it was from. It’s at this random moment he smirks, and surprisingly lets out a sound that is akin to a small chuckle. You look up at him with a bewildered expression on your face which seems to make his smirk a tad wider.
“What is it?” You ask, voice reaching a quiet tone as you take in his odd behaviour.
“You are a hopeless romantic darling.” He responds as he takes in your words about the latest romance novel he managed to procure for you.
You seem to gape like a fish out of water. That was the last thing you expected to come out of his mouth. You decide not to comment, unsure of how to gauge what has happened.
Instead, you ask another question, “Aren’t there parts of all of us that are?”
“Perhaps.” Mihawk cooly replies.
The next time he leaves you a new book, a single red rose sits on top of it.
With Shanks it was different. He felt like an old friend and had a familiarity to him that instantly made you comfortable. Well, that was until he put you in an uncomfortable situation.
“Shanks, I’m not sure I can do this.” You tell him, starting at the obstacle in front of you.
His crew, the Red-Hair pirates, had arrived on the island not too long ago. Both men had told you that they were coming, with Mihawk playing up his reluctance, so you had time to mentally prepare. However, much to Shanks’ disappointment, you had hidden away in your allocated room. He was not going to allow this to happen.
“It’s this or I take you to meet my crew sweetheart.” He announces, sternly with his arm wrapped around your waist.
He had taken you to the empty Red Force. The idea was to kill two birds with one stone. See if it triggered both your memories of how you had fallen into the sea, and start to curb your fear of pirates. You look up at him, and seeing his unwavering resolve in his face, you sigh. You carefully take the steps on board and immediately dart away from the railings, into the middle of the deck.
“Woah, okay. You’re okay.” Shanks offers reassurance, “How about we sit here, hm?”
You’re shaking again, and Shanks knows it isn’t from the cold. He carefully lowers himself and sits down on the wooden flooring. He gestures and you follow, glad he’s giving you simple instructions in order not to overwhelm you.
“It’s just a boat sweetheart. Close your eyes.” He instructs you, and you vehemently shake your head.
He leans back and closes his eyes.
“C’mon it’s nice. You can hear the birds, and the waves, and feel the last remains of the sun on your face.” He states, trying to convince you still.
You consider the situation. Has he really done enough to earn your trust in the short time that you’ve known him? Is this the type of man who’d throw you overboard like the people before? With all the anxiety in your stomach, you use the adrenaline to make your body shut your eyes before you can chicken out. Shanks gives it another minute but then peeks one of his eyes open to see you’ve done what he said. He smiles to himself. You were starting to trust them.
Another week goes by and you’ve dramatically improved. The Red-Hair pirate crew had gone without Shanks, with an agreement to come back in three weeks for their captain to join them once again. You’re with both of them this time. Mihawk cooks away while Shanks does his best to distract him with both affection and joking insults. Mihawk shoos him away but you can see he doesn’t really put any malice behind it. You realise in the domestic setting that you’ve come to care for them both.
“Penny for your thoughts sweetheart?” Shanks asks you when he gets bored of bothering his counterpart, coming to take a seat next to you.
“I suppose this is the right time for me to consider leaving or to establish a time frame.” You announce, trying your best to keep the sadness from entering your voice or demeanour.
The room goes silent and it’s Mihawk who breaks it.
“If that is what you wish then you may go…” He tells you, causing Shanks to let out a noise in protest, “but we’d like you to stay. Perhaps we can figure out how we all really feel about each other?”
Shanks settles beside you at those words. He looks at you expectantly, offering you a boisterous grin.
“I fear I have a lot to handle.” You meekly admit, curling in on yourself slightly.
“We’re asking for you as you are sweetheart.” Shanks declares.
You look at him, then to the other and see nothing but truth. You nod firmly and Shanks pulls you into his side, pressing a reassuring kiss to the top of your head.
“Plus, you’re terrified of boats and pirates sweetheart, how were you planning to get off this island?”
“Shut up, Shanks.”

throws a snippet of mishanks into the void
---
Mihawk shouldn’t tolerate that chance, and yet here he was.
Tolerating it.
Mihawk grabbed Shanks by the hair and pulled. He refused to tolerate the hammock.
“Wake up.”
“Good morning to you too,” Shanks groaned, neck curved to Mihawk’s whims. Shanks shifted above him, stretching like an overgrown alley-cat, a tempest of bare skin and coiled muscle. It was distractingly pleasant.
Mihawk tightened his grip.
“You keep pulling my hair like that, sweetheart, and I’m going to get the right idea.”
“You have thirty seconds to get off me,” Mihawk said, voice rasping with the last hint of sleep, “before I cut this… thing into pieces.”
“Still hung up on the hammock? Or hanging in it?” Shanks asked, and it was only a heartbeat before he lost it to laughter. Mihawk could feel warm breath, brushing the base of his neck like gentle fingers.
“Ten seconds,” Mihawk answered, instead of responding to the joke or the man. Shanks rolled out of the hammock in a tumbling laugh, and of all things, dragged Mihawk down with him.
Mihawk let him, of course. The letting was as natural as the swing of a sword, and just as damning, only— Mihawk wasn’t damning another man with his blade, not in this.
He was damning himself.
They tumbled to the floor in a pile of limbs, landing with Shanks against the floor and Mihawk crouched above him. Shanks with bruises and giddy, breathless laughter, Mihawk with a sigh that was more than halfway to irritation, and less than halfway from something far worse.
“You are such a child,” he said, flat as a blade, rearranging himself above Shanks until Shanks was pinned beneath him, the warm glow of his smile caught between Mihawk’s hands. Mihawk felt settled like this— straddling Shanks, caging him in. A hawk, perched above the only prey he’d ever need.
How very damning.

oooh, let's talk about young mishanks again. shanks at very late seventeen-almost eighteen hitting one final growth spurt out on the sea. hitting it right as he's wrapping up his first trip as a newly-minted captain and sailing in to tell mihawk all about it. it's been six, seven months since mihawk last saw him, and despite shanks now being a captain, despite his skill with a sword now beginning to seriously rival mihawk's, shanks is still rather boyish. taller, maybe, than when they first met, but still boyish. in his face, in his voice. still acts boyish too. naturally. mihawk can vividly remember the sound of shanks' voice sweetly wishing him farewell before setting off. the night before shanks had left mihawk had taken his hand to hold and secretly marveled at how it could wield a sword with such dexterity. and mihawk just. doesn't himself know how much he expected shanks to remain that way forever. remain the boy mihawk met that day in loguetown. doesn't know until the moment shanks steps off the red force to greet him and mihawk's blood almost runs cold because for a moment he almost didn't recognize shanks. this man in front of him is taller. broader in the shoulders. the reddish hint of the stubble he was showing is wrapped dark around his jaw. he walks towards mihawk and it's not with the gangly stride of a late teenager anymore. there's something heavier, more self-assured mixed in with it. shanks says his name and it comes out deeper, rougher, softer than mihawk has ever heard it said. his hair is longer. it seems even redder. shanks reaches for him, and his hand is warm, and heavy, and doesn't feel like that hand mihawk had held all those months ago. this is a stranger in front of him. he doesn't know him. but then. shanks pushes back his hat. the straw hat that is the one thing that tells mihawk that it is shanks. and shanks smiles at him. and it's a sweet, boyish smile. and Oh. it is shanks. his shanks. He's growing up now.

One piece for the ship tag?
(disclaimer: I'm about 1/3 into the Wano arc in the manga and have watched the live action; haven't watched the anime)
otp: Mishanks, because I'm from the ASOUE fandom Sugar Bowl Generation subfandom and characters of the older generation having vaguely hinted-at relationships that are mostly presented in the form of fleeting mentions, subtext, and parallels are my jam (and what is vaguely hinted at regarding these two looks poetic as fuck to me). Frobin, because while I always appreciate a gen story where romance subplots do not detract attention from adventures, their dynamic has all the foundation for a perfect love story (fates intertwined since childhood and long before they met! freak4freak relationship! "existing is not a crime"! he literally took bullets for her when they've known each other for such a short time!) and I like to imagine it's actually happening behind the scenes, we just don't get to see it because it's not relevant for Luffy's journey or whaveter. Namivivi, because it's the classic "the princess and the scoundrel" trope, but with lesbians - what's not to love?
favourite canon pairing: Usopp/Kaya - they're very sweet, and I like that they could've easily been this tragic sad story about being forced to leave your loved ones behind, but instead it's more of a bittersweet narrative about having to grow up and move on if you want to fulfil your dreams, and maybe come home to each other someday.
worst pairing ever: not a fan of shipping Mihawk with Zoro and/or Perona romantically - I should've been less surprised that it's a thing, but it's definitely not my thing
guilty pleasure pairing: putting it here because it looks like an unpopular opinion (I think?), but after Punk Hazard I looked up Smoker/Tashigi on ao3 and a lot of fics were so good that now I really dig the idea 😶 battle couple but also the most awkward workplace romance ever.
a pairing you want to see more: I treasure every mention of Sai/Baby 5 in the manga but probably less because I ship them hard and more because I just need to know she's finally happy
that pairing everyone likes but you’re like “lol no”: I don't think I have any "lol no" ships so far, it's rather that there are popular ships I have no negative feelings about, but also don't really care about either. For example, I definitely understand why people ship Zosan and Zolu (especially Zolu, they're peak king and lionheart), but neither of these ships interests me enough to look for fic/art, create headcanons, or just rotate them in my brain.
favorite non-romantic pair: the Straw Hat Crew collectively (+ Nami and Usopp specifically); the Addams-Family-but-make-it-pirates of Mihawk, Zoro, and Perona; Zeff and Sanji; Franky and Iceburg; Sanji and Reiju; Law and Corazon; Luffy and Bon Clay... there are so many great friendships and (adopted) family dynamics that I could go on and on and on

The Roger Pirates were like one large family in the respect that if Rayleigh said no to something, they would just go to Roger because he always said yes. Roger was the fun one, Rayleigh was the strict one.
Shanks accidentally called Rayleigh "Mom" once when he was trying to get out of trouble for stealing Buggy's Map of the Week. Rayleigh still brings it up all the time.
The first time Shanks got a crush, it was on a pretty bartender at the first bar he was allowed to go into and all was fine. Then, when he met this dark-haired swordsman and was so confused. He tried to hide it, but Rayleigh caught on and was the one who said that it was okay to like whomever he fancied and that no one on the ship would ever make fun of him. One new crew member didn't even get to finish his comment because Rayleigh had tossed him overboard. They say he flew for over three minutes.
When Buggy first started his clown aesthetic with more flair, he hid all of his accessories in an old closet, only to have that closet be the one where Roger hid from his first mate. Buggy is embarrassed, but Roger tells him not to be. They are pirates, they can be whoever they want to be.
When Buggy ate his devil fruit, Roger and Rayleigh went into full Parental mode. They made sure that there was a lineup of people to grab Buggy if he ever went overboard (Shanks was always first, always). Rayleigh would stay up way late into the night helping the young man train because Buggy doesn't want to seem like the weakest member of the crew. No matter what they find treasure-wise, Rayleigh and Roger always make sure to give a piece or two to Buggy. He never did figure out it was them.
To this day, he still watches them, making sure they don't get into too much trouble. Rayleigh nearly had a heart attack when it was announced that Shanks was a Yonko. He cried when Buggy was made a Warlord.

come see mishanks fumble marriage but not divorce, the chapter
---
“Mihawk, meet Luffy,” Shanks waved a hand between them, lazy. “Luffy, this is my… husband.”
The bar seemed to still, tankards clattering to silence, words strangled to quiet. Mihawk went still too. He felt gripped at the throat, hollow bones filled to drowning.
Surely not.
He looked to Shanks. Shanks, wide-eyed, wearing a smile like it was forged in tail-winds and desperation, looked to him. For the first time in years, there was a hint of flush, clawing its way across bronze skin, blooming between them.
It was nearly red enough to wash out the scars.
“Did the boss just—”
“When did they get ma—“
“He didn’t—”

*hums softly*
Mishanks
for you, my darling friend, I will pull something from the drafts
—-
Mihawk always looked elegant, in a groomed, midnight way, but it was softer here. Less of a guard and more of a weapon. Mihawk, as he truly was— a blade lit by moonlight, beautiful, and painfully shirtless.
“What’s a handsome devil like you doing up here all alone?”
“Waiting,” came the sleek jab, sharp enough to cut. Shanks wanted to melt into it. “You took too long, Red.”
“Had to put the kids to bed,” Shanks grinned, sliding into the seat waiting for him, and digging into the meal Mihawk kept for him. It was delicious, as always, rich with a sweet hint of some kind of citrus. That lad in the kitchens had really grown into his own— well enough to be Mihawk’s favorite chef, and second in rank for Shanks.
Mihawk watched him, and hummed.
“Your challenger is dating Luffy,” Shanks said, cheerful around a bite of fish, “or will be soon, at any rate.”
Mihawk paused, wine caught at the breach of his lips. Shanks appreciated the sight. Mihawk, unguarded, taken by surprise, was a beautiful thing. Shanks had to work long and hard for it, usually.
“I take it you don’t want me to kill him.”
“Preferably not, yeah.”

You are the no.1 Shanks Understander™️ to me so I’m gonna ask your thoughts on this if you’re interested:
How do you see Shanks reacting to Mihawk getting ill or injured?? Especially since Mihawk responds so so badly when it’s the other way around, and would obviously detest what he perceives to be weakness in himself AND any hint that he might need to rely on another person
Tbh I think it’s another classic Mishanks case of unstoppable force vs. immoveable object, in this case shanks’ protectiveness over his loved ones vs. Mihawk’s complete alienation from the notion of being cared for. Also unlikely, since Mihawk is so insanely strong, but imo that makes it even more interesting and devastating :)
oh this is a fascinating ask-- i think the answer is going to vary wildly depending on the situation, and i can see it splitting into a few broad camps.
its a cold, or otherwise light illness that is very standard for people to get. I think in this case Shanks would play it off, and enjoy getting to take care of Mihawk. Mihawk would probably be fine with being taken care of to some extent for an illness of this kind-- it's not weakness, it's just annoying, and if that means Red brings him extra wine or lets Mihawk uses his shirts as tissues in dire times, that's mostly fine. (though Shanks shirts are in dire straights too and he will never live that down). I think somewhere in the back of his head Shanks would have a thread of irrational fear, but he's very used to pushing past things like that. He'd laugh and make Mihawk sleep more and be okay
its a serious terminal illness of some kind. This is the worst case, illness wise, and I think would raise major memories of Roger. I think Shanks would start to look for cures-- scour the world over, talk to every doctor he could, and focus on fixing what he could. If he couldn't, then I think Mihawk is the kind to accept it as the fate of how he dies, and Shanks is the kind to rally against that in increasingly desperate ways. DEPRESSING, in summary, and definitely the one where Shanks is openly most upset. Brittle, I think. I think his smiles would be brittle.
any injury at all, and/or an illness that knocks Mihawk out for a while but won't kill him. this one is most interesting to me, because I think it's where Shanks would have the wildest irrational responses that he has to control-- he'd want explanations, beyond what Mihawk could offer and is willing to offer. He'd go tight, wound up and tense. I think in this scenario he'd never leave Mihawk, and it's also the most likely to make them fight-- Mihawk would find the attention stifling, and the weakness unacceptable. He'd want to leave, and Shanks would be in a headspace where he just wouldn't allow it. Like physically picking up Mihawk and putting him back in bed, etc. I think he'd smile least in this case-- he'd be more openly angry or resolute, and less brittle.
