Yo, no way, he actually did confess!
I can't wait for the next part, will Mirach be happy? Will he be apprehensive or sad that it's too late? Will he be angry that Alcor only said something now that it might be too late?!
I am dying to know fjjhgxhdhkvyfdz
FINALLY! But yeah, time to see how Mirach responds :O It was a really sudden confession after basically a week of ghosting >< Answers soon though :D

[...isolation of the transformation appears to worsen the standard disorientation of a new body. I believe that the familiarity of the upper body may be offsetting the psychological impact of the lower body - as not everything has changed, the subject still "expects", on some level, that their body will work similarly, despite radical changes to organ systems and locomotion and the near-total overhaul of the centre of gravity.]
[The subject appears to be leaning on hexapodal motion as a type of "crutch", despite the size of the lower body making most of these sorts of motions awkward at best - the tournament venue doesn't currently have many internal spaces sufficient to test this one's mobility, but outdoors venues seem more promising for testing, anyways. This confirms something that I've previously suspected, as well - subjects find it more difficult to adjust to addition of new limbs than they do subtraction of limbs.]
[Subject appears to exhibit difficulty with coordination in the lower limbs, and has adopted an extremely "cautious" form of motion, taking steps with one limb at a time. The difference between upper and lower limbs means that this mode of movement is extremely... clumsy, to say the least. I intend to keep them under observation for a few more days before release and see if this resolves within the initial settling period or not. After that, just some periodic check-ins should be...]
Hello, and welcome to: watercolor paintings for Round 2 of @bug-oc transmutations! Mirach by @ghost-of-hallownest. Some extra details under cut because this is a long post and we don't want to make it longer.
This one is based pretty heavily on Dragon!Falin from Dungeon Meshi, but we're bringing through some lizard-y aspects from last year, and very much having fun with the tabby-cat patterns on the back - though technically speaking, Mirach's blue is limited to her wings, adding some markings to the body helps us break up that big plane of sandy yellows and add some interest to the design. We think it turned out well!
If we could fit it in, we'd add a third bit of Marigold notes related to the actual transmutation method, since it's been living in our brain for a while, and we think our Potion Drawing might be a bit... abstract, otherwise?
More or less, the weave - the active transmutation medium - is woven to the inside of the lasso's... lasso, and upon encircling something with it, the weave is transferred to the target, thus making the lasso fall apart entirely as a major component of its structure abruptly ceases to be part of the object.
This transfer-and-break is the same general method through which most of Marigold's "one-use" charms work - as the effect is now tied to the target's body, rather than an object, it simply remains in effect until the weave "wears in" to the body entirely, shifting it from an effect active on the subject to a part of the subject's body.
This means that, before the effect is fully integrated into the body, it can be broken, though as with all charmcraft some effects may still linger. This also makes it so, technically, the charmcraft only casts an effect on the caster - the same effect through which pretty much all Medals work - rather than being a direct interface a la wiring it directly into the bug's body, which is illegal and what Marigold spends a lot of time tiptoing around to produce major effects on a bug's body without the single most useful method for bodily alteration Charmcraft has to offer.
...that was longer than we really expected it to be. We are working on the other contestants, both of this round and the last, though it's going very slowly seeing as the afternoon sun is currently hot enough to melt our brain into a fine sludge. We've got a solid idea of all three other Round 2 designs, and we've finally got a sketch for Mal - though Pola is being delayed, still, due to our poor comics-making decisions. We're working on it! Slowly!
If we could figure out how in the hell to represent it visually, we'd be working on making a loser's bracket, too, but as is... listen, we're not a graphics designer for a reason. If you are a graphics designer and we can outsource designing a loser's bracket to you then please contact us. We have a budget of approximately ten dollars. We can do PayPal but if your payment processor of choice is US-exclusive we cannot help you.

Bug Fables OC Tournament Round 2
Hessi (she/her) from @flame-shadow
Hessi is a friendly scientist who loves pursuing her passions and encouraging others to do so too! She works in a lab with other creative bugs as they explore the world around them and find ways to make changes and improvements. Hessi is good with machines and is currently working on safe means of flight for flightless bugs (she’s trying to build jetpacks).
When she’s not in the lab, she’s hanging out with her friends and/or partners. Maybe going on a hike or to a new restaurant in the nearby town or just chillin’ and chattin’ in her room late into the night.
She cares a lot in so many ways and will step in to defend bugs who are being mistreated or stand up for those who can’t make themselves heard. She doesn’t like resorting to violence, but she will if she absolutely has to. Luckily, it rarely comes to that.
Also, if you vote for Hessi, you get a free hug, kiss, or high-five from her as thanks.
Mirach (she/they) from @ghost-of-hallownest
Born to a farming family in the golden settlement, Mirach is the eldest of her siblings and helps her folks out on their aphid farm. When not on the farm, they’re usually out helping the community with day-to-day tasks or hanging out with their bestie, Cypherus.
Mirach is quite head strong and has a strong sense of justice which often results in her getting into fights she isn’t able to finish, leading to Cypherus having to bail them out. While her skills in fighting are lackluster, she is incredibly resourceful and their quick thinking has often gotten them outta a tight spot.
Mirach dreams of traveling one day but feels responsible to take care of the farm, for now, she’ll settle for Cypherus’ stories about his time outside of Bugaria

Not that ambient is entirely devoid of structure or “beats.” Two of my favorites have more semblance of music than ambient really allows
First one uses traditional instruments, and the second one is like a muted techno beat. Third is just a normal ass song imo
And one of my favorite artists, Zaké, utilizes obvious repeating chords for a lot of his music, which gives the feeling of repetition, being trapped and stuck, an inescapable dream, blah blah blah
The main point of ambient is not just being slow and quiet and boring, but also emphasizing the “texture” of the music and placing atmosphere and emotion over traditional musical structure. And sometimes it feels less like ambient and more like a muted song, but its goal lies more with ambient.
#of course being slow and quiet are still massive factors to make something ambient#I’m sure what I said can apply to other genres#but my main expertise is in ambient so that’s all I can say#Spotify

@duch-mirach Personally I wouldn't assume the worst of them. Writing is hard, sticking with it is harder. It's very possible many authors simply lost passion for their story. I think a lack of communication can be a problem in the community, but at the end of the day authors don't truly owe us readers anything.
The pressure of social media is very real and when you have a lot of fans saying you won't be working on this thing they enjoy is scary as fuck. I'm not saying going ghost is good, especially when money is involved. I can, however, understand why someone under that much social pressure might make a decision like that.
Maybe I'm optimistic, but as a writer and knowing how much time and energy goes into even just preparing to write a story? I just can't find it in myself to think decisions like that are made baselessly.
Be nice to your interactive fiction authors please. Not only do you have to write a book but you also have to code a game. A lot of these authors are new to coding as well, so, be patient. Both writing and coding take time.
Thank you to all the amazing people who make the stories I love. <3

This is Mirach’s Ghost! 👻👻👻
This spooky image has 2 beautiful objects of interest: Mirach’s Ghost (the fuzzy galaxy on the top right) and Mirach (the bright red giant star in the center). The star is a mere 200 light years away while the galaxy is at a whopping 10 million light years away! 🎃🎃🎃
Taken by me (Michelle Park) using the Slooh Canary Three telescope on October 29th, 2021 at 3:26 UTC.

Bug Fables OC Tournament Round 1 (fixed)
Mal (Any pronouns) from @sushiikando
Mal is a Clown-Face tiger moth! They reside in the Moth Kingdom and are a royal scientist. They are not very well regarded by the public, most people just get concerned if you were to mention them and theyre like ''oh, you mean,,,, THAT guy,,,,'' as their experimentation process could be considered, reckless and lacking proper morals. (most of their experiments were on themselves! they used to look reallly different than they are now)
They would be the type of bug to eat something incredibly radioactive just to see what happens. Oh and they recently had some research returned to them from a research team sent to bugaria (they reside in a land a little ways away from bugaria). Something about a fungus, I wonder what will happen next, exciting!
We think you should vote for them because we need more unhinged scientists in this world and what better option than Mal! (they even did their own top surgery) Mal would be incredibly happy for the vote

APOD: Mirach s Ghost
As far as ghosts go, Mirach's Ghost isn't really that scary. Mirach's Ghost is just a faint, fuzzy galaxy, well known to astronomers, that happens to be seen nearly along the line-of-sight to Mirach, a bright star. Centered in this star field, Mirach is also called Beta Andromedae. About 200 light-years distant, Mirach is a red giant star, cooler than the Sun but much larger and so intrinsically much brighter than our parent star. In most telescopic views, glare and diffraction spikes tend to hide things that lie near Mirach and make the faint, fuzzy galaxy look like a ghostly internal reflection of the almost overwhelming starlight. Still, appearing in this sharp image just above and to the right of Mirach, Mirach's Ghost is cataloged as galaxy NGC 404 and is estimated to be some 10 million light-years away. via NASA https://ift.tt/3GwBSyi
